I can't believe I'm saying this, but
I'm sorry, but
Scruffy Rook is way hotter than Pretty Rook, isn't he?

"Maybe the world isn't that beautiful thing you think it is."
Dean might be talking about the world, or maybe he is talking about himself, he doesn't know yet. What he does know is that he wants save Cas from the inevitable disappointment. He hates feeling this way, a gray cloud clouding his mind.
"The world" Castiel gives him a look, full of intent, slowly putting down the mug he was drinking from,"might have its lights and shadows, its saints and sinners, but I know for a fact," he turns to the side so he can fully look at Dean, who unconsciously mirrors his position, "its good things, the love inside it, the light it shines, make it worthy of salvation, of being a part of it, of loving it as it is." He lets his fingertips trace a path upwards across Dean's hands, his forearm and, as he goes, old fading bruises acquired on their last hunt disappear completely, the feather-like touches warm as the kiss of sunlight in his skin. He is pretty sure he will have a couple more freckles after this.
He knows they were never talking about the world.
As they reach his shoulder Castiel's hands come to a halt, squeezing gently, making sure he has Dean's attention before his hands are moving again, "the world," Castiel says, as his hands cradle Dean's face like they are holding something precious, "our world, this world, it's worth dying for and living for and it never will be perfect, neither will I, but I still love it because it's my world, and my world means everything to me."
He presses a lingering kiss to Dean's lips and, to his bemused amusement, he leans back and goes back to his coffee, leaving Dean staring at him, a soft smile gracing his lips.
