My Favorite Albums of 2022*

*not necessarily from 2022

Over the past 12 months, I've somehow acquired 260 CDs, so instead of doing a standard, "Top of 2022 list," I figured I'd share 10 favorite additions to my ever-growing collection, no matter if they were released in 2022 or not. I'll also do it in alphabetical order by album name for simplicity's sake (and 10 out of 260 is already subjective enough!). Here goes!

Tyler, the Creator - Call Me If You Get Lost

The brilliant wordplay more than warrants Tyler's oozing braggadocio but the fact that, in many cases, that same braggadocio is only thinly veiling deep insecurities elevates this to a truly astonishing level. "Drama, I need you. Can you turn the noise up?" isn't about getting the party hyped, it's about drowning out that critical voice in the back of your head. It's a call for help. It's a masterwork by an MC who's, somewhat surprisingly, coming for a Top 5 spot.

Soul Glo - Diaspora Problems

The CD came with liner notes and lyrics but you basically need a magnifying glass to read them. But you should get one. Because they're worth it. Verbose, brilliant, genre jumping hardcore.

The Beths - Expert in a Dying Field

Do you remember when "Mr. Brightside" came out and it basically was the "end-all, be-all" song about jealousy? "Expert in a Dying Field," is "Mr. Brightside" for breakups. The rest of the album is just icing on the cake. But the icing is also ridiculously good. Like nearly as good as the cake itself.

Origami Angel - Gami Gang

Dumb puns for song titles ("Neutrogina Spektor," "Tom Holland Oates," "Bed, Bath, and Batman Beyond,"), Pokémon, Game Boy, and Taco Bell references, and a smattering of sick riffs, anthemic choruses, and furious tapping. These 20(!!!) songs are more than just an album, they're a goddamn mission statement for a new generation of nerdy emo kids.

The Hotelier - Like No Place Is There

I can imagine Guy and Ian listening to this album and saying, "yeah, this is exactly where we imagined the genre ending up 30 years later." Devastating, cathartic, rough around the edges, but full of melody, and, most importantly, empathy.

Drug Church - Hygiene

Folks keep labeling this "hardcore," but its New Wave and 90's Alt-Rock influences are too abundant to keep it pinned down. Plus, it's catchy as fuck. An excellent 26 minutes that gets better with each listen.

Pusha T - It's Almost Dry

Focus on the latter half of Pusha's statement of purpose: "Cocaine's Dr. Seuss." It's not just that he raps about slinging coke, it's that he loves the words he uses to rap about slinging coke. That joy, that creativity, that fun is abundant on these 12 tracks. Hell, he even gets Jay to join in. (Hot take: Jay's verse on "Neck & Wrist," is better than his verse on "God DID.")

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour

A stone-cold-classic that I finally picked up on CD. Maybe my favorite from the fab four.

Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future

Stripping away the vocal acrobatics and spectacle that instantly hooked me, Denzel keeps his tone simple and direct and his lyrics powerful and personal, further highlighting his talent and chameleonic abilities.

Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers

Holding the controversial opinion that DAMN. was a clear step backwards, from the opening moments of "United in Grief," it was clear that K. Dot made a sharp turn back to the complexity and nuance of TPAB and GKMC. It's a deeply uncomfortable listen, giving us an in-depth view of a man struggling to find his true self and how that clashes with who others want (need?) him to be. It's messy and difficult and problematic and exactly the type of album only Kendrick can make.

Into the Anthill pt 4 - New Challenges

The Masters Of Evil made their first appearance here in the pages of Avengers, but Hank had his own fair share of foes returning to take out Giant-Man. Egghead, Porcupine, Black Knight, The Hulk; there were a lot of people desperate to get their hands on him, but no one was more ready to take a bite out of Hank than Janet.

Tales to Astonish vol 1 #52-56

Hank fought the Black Knight, Porcupine joined the Giant-Man fanclub’s rogues gallery cosplay event, and our dynamic duo took a romantic trip to Latin America to destabilize a newly-elected communist leader (he stole the election, but they didn’t know that for sure until after the fight).

Hank actually tried to propose to Janet here too. Unfortunately, since she was so tired of waiting for him to make a move, she lied about having another date to make him jealous and he got cold feet.

Fantastic Four vol 1 #25-26

The Hulk returned for revenge against the Avengers and Rick Jones (who both replaced him with Cap). The Avengers and Fantastic Four had a brief tussle to decide which team deserved the chance to fight Hulk before he ran away again.

Avengers vol 1 #5-6

When the Lava Men returned to get revenge on Thor Hank tricked The Hulk (who was nearby) into saving the day (by punching some rocks). Then The Masters Of Evil united to challenge the Avengers because Zemo read about Captain America’s return in a newspaper. Zemo hired Black Knight, Melter, and Radioactive Man to help him, but luckily the Avengers had an ace up their sleeve: Paste-Pot-Pete (yes really).

Tales to Astonish vol 1 #57

Egghead returned, Jan got a gun, and Hank fought Spider-Man due to a misunderstanding.

Journey into Mystery vol 1 #105

Cameo in an issue where Thor fights The Cobra and Mr. Hyde.

Tales to Astonish vol 1 #58

Hank developed a way to change his size and Jan’s mentally just using his suit rather than the growth capsules. Jan designed her first new uniform and Cap assumed that Christian Dior must have designed it because it was so glamorous. Hank & Jan then traveled to Africa to fight a 30 foot tall man from outer space. Hank grew to 30 feet to fight back, but apparently anything above 12 feet left him feeling weak.

Tales of Suspense vol 1 #56

Cameo in an issue where Iron Man fights The Unicorn.

Avengers vol 1 #7

The Masters of Evil returned with Enchantress and Executioner among their ranks. They enchanted Thor to have him fight the Avengers while Cap pursued his vendetta against Zemo for killing Bucky.

Sydney's Leather Men are set to party

Sydney’s leather community is gearing up for another Mardi Gras season, with events throughout the second half of February.

The first big event is the International Mr Leather Meet N Greet on Thursday, February 22 at The Burdekin.

International Mr Leather is a title that is respected throughout the global leather community and is currently held by American Marcus Barela, who won that title after becoming Eagle LA Mister Leather 2023.

The event will be hosted by Thomas Seggie, Pride of the Hide 2019, and there will be ample time to meet Marcus with free ticketed entry.

A major player in Australia’s fetish scene is Sydney Leather Men, a social group for male and male identifying leather men to gather, socialise, bond and build a stronger leather brotherhood.

Sydney Leather Men is holding four events in the second half of February, kicking off with UNITY at the Town Hall Hotel in Newtown on Friday, February 23.

UNITY is a social event welcoming people of all genders and orientations who unite under a shared love for leather and is a partnership with Sydney’s iconic Dykes on Bikes

The celebrations continue with BLUF Sydney Social at Eagle Bar Sydney on Saturday, February 24.

BLUF stands for “Breeches and Leather Uniform Fanclub” and is an international fraternal organisation for those who have a love for breeches and uniforms, though the BLUF dress code is encouraged but not essential to attend the event.

The event will also host Marcus Barela as International Mr Leather 2023 and promises to be a night where all fetishes are welcome.

The next event is where things really kick off. INQUISITION is the big party night of the season and is being held at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville on Sunday, February 25, with a dance party across two floors with eight hours of DJ sets and kink performers from Studio Kink, peep shows, go-go dancers, and Mistress Tokyo.

INQUISITION is a legendary event that is known as Sydney leather scene’s ultimate carnival of leather, rubber, and all things kink.

Next up, The Burdekin will be hosting a Titleholder Forum on Tuesday, February 27, to give attendees a chance to hear from some of the biggest titleholders in the community both locally and internationally.

This event is hosted by Mr Australian Leather 2023, Shane Stevens, and features a diverse panel of titleholders including Sydney Mr Leather 2023 Coach Jura, Sydney Ms Leather 2023 Iz Bear, Pride of the Hide 2023 Nick Toff, Mr Harbour City Bear 2019-2021 Adam Cooney and Australian Puppy 2017 Thomas Panther Martin.

The event offers the chance to hear from those who have competed for these titles, how they got where they are today and the responsibilities that come with it.

If you’ve ever considered running for a community title this is the event for you.

Finally, Sydney Leather Men are holding a Leather Feast dinner on February 28. This event was originally being held at Thai Nesia Restaurant on Oxford Street but has since been moved to the Forrester’s Hotel in Surry Hills.

Courtship, Arranged Marriages, and Unplanned Pregnancies

Like I said here, I’ve got a bunch of headcanons on cultural differences between the four nations of the Avatar-verse. I decided to hit you guys right with the heavy stuff, first, so let’s talk about dating, marriage, and kids born out-of-wedlock!

(Note that these primarily apply to the time period shown in ATLA-- things are probably a little different by Korra’s era.)

Water Tribes: First off, I feel like a lot of fanfic writers tend to act like these guys (particularly the North) are total sexists on every level, which is a little unfair. Yes, we’re told that they have strict gender roles when it comes to bending, but nothing at any point in canon suggests that they think of women as second-class citizens. Just because they have rigid gender roles in certain areas (which is not super-uncommon for a tribal culture) doesn’t mean that women are considered lesser. So, in the water tribes, out-of-wedlock pregnancies are considered a dishonor on the man, not the woman. They’re also, frankly, considered a rather stupid move. In a polar climate with limited resources, what kind of selfish man would put the responsibility of another mouth to feed on someone else’s family? (Also, rape and molestation are taboos considered the most heinous crimes possible. Such things are almost unheard of, with punishments ranging from death to banishment.) In short, just because a culture doesn’t believe in teaching their women to fight does not mean they don’t honor and respect them. Practically speaking, most people are married by the time they’re twenty or so (at the very latest). In the North, which has a much larger population than the South, this does mean that a lot of families arrange marriages. (Matches are based on a number of factors, including compatibility, and the people being set-up generally do have the right to refuse, although that rarely happens.) In the South, where everybody knows everybody else, things are a little more relaxed and people generally choose their own partners. While some do go through a few people before they find the right one, dating, even from a young age, is serious business, and people who marry their childhood sweethearts are the general rule, rather than the exception. (This, btw, totally explains why Katara spent so long trying to debating whether or not she wanted to be with Aang. She wasn’t just thinking “do I like this guy enough to make him my first boyfriend?” She was deciding whether or not she could see herself potentially marrying him a few years down the line.)

Earth Kingdom: These guys are much more relaxed than the Water Tribes. Arranged marriages are pretty rare, even in the upper classes (although they do happen), and most people date casually for years before they really start thinking about marriage. (For any of you who’ve read the comics, this also explains the interaction in “The Promise: Part 2” between Katara and Aang’s fanclub. They refer to her as his “first” girlfriend, and she gets super-insulted. In the water tribes, people often marry the first person they date, but in the Earth Kingdom, no thirteen year old boy or fifteen year old girl is even thinking about marriage yet. It’s more of a culture gap than a truly intentional insult.) Out-of-wedlock pregnancies, while uncommon, do happen sometimes, but unless you’re really upper-crust, they’re not a huge deal. However, they aren’t really talked about in polite circles-- the accepted thing to do these days is to pretend to be a war widow.

Fire Nation: These guys fall somewhere in the middle. They generally do date with the eventual intention of marriage, but it’s fairly typical to go through several potential partners before deciding on the one, and courtships typically last at least two to five years. (Arranged marriages among the nobles are definitely more common than in the Earth Kingdom, though.) However, they’re expected to stay fairly chaste during that time. Even among the common folk, an out-of-wedlock pregnancy is a huge scandal, tarnishing both the good name of the girl and the honor of her father and his household. When they do happen, they’re usually quickly hushed up-- either by the Avatar-world equivalent of a shotgun marriage, a discreet operation, or a “trip to the colonies” (where the child is then shipped off to an orphanage).

Air Nomads: I didn’t really need to come up with much for them, since canon practically spells it out for us. The Air Nomads didn’t actually practice marriage, ergo, technically all children were born out-of-wedlock. They didn’t have traditional family units-- kids were raised communally by the monks and/or nuns. Some of them had long term relationships, others just casual flings, but I imagine most fell somewhere in the middle. (Vathara’s Embers mentions “spring festivals,” which sounds about right to me.)

It’s time for your favorite idols to show off their athletic sides!

Idol Star Athletics Championships (ISAC), the biannual show that gathers many debuted K-Pop idols (from rookies to seniors in the industry) playing various sports and gives them the chance to have fun with members of other groups and their fans, is going to be recorded on the weekend of October 24th and 25th at Goyang Stadium in South Korea. The airing date has yet to be announced, it’s expected to be aired in November.

This year a total of 231 participants will be contesting in seven different fields, including short track (60m), 400m relay, wrestling, archery, bowling, aerobics, rhythmic gymnastics and e-Sports. Sun Hyukmoo, Unit Black's Oh Jinseok, K.ARMA’s Kil have been selected as the MCs for the event. In addition to the MCs, Convex’s Seonghwa and Eclipse’s Jennie will be on the ground giving reports and talking to the competitors. As “corner” MCs, NSG U’s Aron and AND*ROMA Sora will be reporting on special events.

For those who can’t wait to watch the show next month or wait for updates on SNS, fans of the participating groups are invited to be part of the audience and enjoy some fun time with their favorite idols. Seats are limited and each group gets a certain amount of tickets for their fans. To secure a spot at the event they must sign up through their official websites/fanclubs and arrive promptly.

Idols should arrive at 8:30AM with comfortable clothes. They will pose for the fans waiting for them then get in the gymnasium to get changed into uniforms provided for them and pin a tag with their names. After that, they will move to the red carpet to pose for the press in front of a backdrop as usual. There’s no fixed order and the first groups to arrive will be the first photographed and the first to enter the gymnasium for the recording. Fans are allowed to enter at 10AM to find their seats (they should sit in their favorite group’s area). The games are set to start at 10:30AM and will happen through the day until 8PM. Recordings will resume on the following day with the same schedule.

Although it’s not a concert, make sure to bring your lightsticks and slogans and prepare for a whole day with your favorite idols -- rumors say they even prepared delicious meals for the fans! Keep your eyes open not to miss any moment because it’s the perfect opportunity for any new friendships being formed or perhaps even something juicy like rivals and secret couples.

SEPTEMBER 2020 BC ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULES & REVIEW

Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of October 7 KST:

A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly limit).

A thread of six posts (three per participant, including the starter) based on the monthly schedule.

Threads and solos do not have to take place directly during an important date listed on the schedule, but must be related to what the muse is mentioned to be doing in the paragraph explaining their schedule/the company’s schedule for the month and/or their thoughts on the mentioned activities or lack thereof.

These schedules may be updated throughout the month if new information needs to be added.

OVERALL COMPANIES

As has become standard at this point, all idols under the company will be permitted a short, three-day break over Chuseok unless they have individual schedules (admin note: points claims) conflicting with the vacation. Following the conclusions of her latest comeback promotions, she still has another performance on the festival circuit as a performer at the Seoul event of Waterbomb 2020. She’s been allotted a fifteen minute set which includes ‘Love U”, “Roller Coaster”, ‘Why Don’t You Know”, and her cover of “Bang Bang”. Later in the month, she’ll be dropping into a popular dance studio to film a video showcasing choreography of one of her b-sides, “Do It”, from her album earlier in the year alongside the choreographer.

LIPSTICK

Only the members of Lip Gloss will be performing for Queendom this month for the unit and Fandora’s Box rounds, but the rest of the members will still appear during all filming days. A number of things bug me about LoK, but the one thing that has recently stood out for me is the Air Acolytes. What purpose do they actually serve? They live in the shadow of Aang and his son, who are Airbenders. In following the Air Nomad way they sacrifice their own nations and backgrounds and take on another. They're seen as servants, less important, much like Bumi, the only non-bender in the Avatar family. Cultural identity should have been tackled. What are your thoughts?

By itself, the Air Acolytes and the new airbenders joining theAir Nomads and adopting their traditions isn’t a bad thing—had the creatorstreated it correctly. It’s the equivalent of becoming a citizen of anothercountry or converting to a new religion. However, Bryke missed several vitalpoints of this cultural assimilation:

1) Theprocess should take time. As soon as these new airbenders gaintheir powers, Tenzin acts as if they have a moral obligation to renounce theirformer lives and citizenship at the drop of a hat. Nowhere do we see him tryingto meet the new airbenders halfway, allowing them to retain some of theirprevious identities. For instance, Bumi was a military man for the majority ofhis life, and we rarely see him out of uniform in the show, yet after he gainsbending, he wears nothing but airbender clothes. This is hard to swallow andmakes it seem like Bumi is overcompensating for not having been an airbenderall his life, trying to live up to what his father wanted him to be.

2) TheAir Acolytes should have been more than just a fanclub. Itfeels like the Air Acolytes all being fangirls of Aang and wanting to be hisgirlfriends is a cop-out so that Bryke don’t have to take them as seriously asthey do other characters who have the ability to bend. Elsewhere in thenarrative, Air Acolytes and airbenders are treated verydifferently, with the latter being allowed more screentime and overallsignificance, when what should beimportant is airbending philosophy and lifestyle.

3) The Air Nomads should have been allowedto evolve. Unlike the original Air Nomads, the modern equivalent don’t allcome from the same culture, so they should have disagreements on how to bestincorporate the old practices into their lives. Perhaps some Air Nomads, likeTy Lee, who were raised to eat meat on a daily basis, would still retain thatfacet of their culture even though they practiced meditation and chakracleansing. And Aang, who wants to have a family unit with Katara instead ofraising his kids the Air Nomad way, should have allowed for different socialstructures to take hold. In time, the Air Nomads might even break intodifferent sects, with traditionalists in one temple and innovators in another.

4) Equalityof all nations needs to be emphasized. Aang had a realproblem with this concept in Avatar:The Last Airbender, in that he constantly quoted his beloved monks withoutembracing wisdom from all four nations the way that he should have. It shouldhave been obvious that some of the new airbenders would refuse to leave theEarth Kingdom altogether—and the story should not have punished them for it theway that Book 3 does. Which leads into …

5) The process of conversion should bevoluntary. I cannot stress this enough. In Book 3, the new airbenders havetwo choices: suffer imprisonment and be used like pawns at the hands of theEarth Queen, or uproot their entire lives to become part of a culture that isthe polar opposite of the one they were raised in. We should have seen asympathetic character choosing to stay behind instead, identifying more asEarth Kingdom than Air Nomad, and making a life for themselves in theirhomeland, even if they have to stand up to the Avatar’s son.

The AirNomads’ status in Book 4 as stand-ins for U.N. troops providing militaryreinforcement and humanitarian aid is … interesting. I’m not necessarilyopposed to this turn of events, provided, however, that the scope of how thiswill change the Air Nomads and perhaps tempt them away from enlightenment beexplored and their new conflicts of interest addressed. Once again, LOK takesan adult issue with broad-reaching implications and reduces it to “Air powersare great, everyone be a vegetarian, yippee!”

Yiyeon Interview with Impact Star Korea Translation

IS: The time has passed but your promotions for first mini album [BE!] has finished. Congratulations, do you have anything to say?

Yiyeon: The title track <Dumb> has a very different feeling with the debut song <Hocus Pocus>. From the song style until the styling are very different. Maybe that's why I felt like I was born again. Wouldn't it also feel like this when the next concept comes out? [laughs].

IS: [BE!] can be counted as your first album. How did you feel when you saw the album in person?

Yiyeon: I thought it would feel like when the writers publish books? It would be interesting to see the album pile up like a book.

IS: What's the thing that you remind the most from the last promotions?

Yiyeon: Please tell us that the company will also give many new challenges to us. Please share your opinion that since we've done this kind of style this time, why don't we do the other style for the next time? This [BE!] album was a precious album with so many people working hard for it. It was another challenge for us. We are glad that we succeeded in that challenge.

IS: Personally, when i watch BVNDIT on stage i felt like seeing a perfect stage from an idol. The performance showed the amount of practice and teamwork and it looks very nice in real life. What's the secret of BVNDIT's teamwork?

Yiyeon: Everyone met at the same time. We joined the company around the same time and practiced together for about three to four years. I think the secret is {time}. The company workers also said, 'How did you guys formed a very united kids?' [laughs].

IS: Why did you dream of becoming an idol?

Yiyeon: Originally i really like to sing. Then i was offered for a famous {street cast}! So naturally, i started my trainee life, but since i only liked singing, it was hard to dance. I'm trying really hard for it. But now i feel like i did a great job as an idol.

IS: And then you guys debuted and spent time for about 300 days. What do you think about idol life? What's the difference from before our debut?

Yiyeon: This promotions also had our first ever fansigning event. The BVNDITBULs that only cheered for us from afar but in this promotion i can look at them in close and i was impressed. It felt like we were seeing a celebrity. [laughs].note: The answer is a bit weird due to Yiyeon is continue-ing the other members answers which mainly the difference is about: the fans!

IS: The fanclub name is very pretty, whose idea is that for the fanclub name(BVNDITBUL)?

Yiyeon: It's my idea! Haha. The name BVNDIT reminded me of the word "Firefly(banditbul)". The texture is similar. As we named the fans that as that and the way they light us up with their lightstick looks just like fireflies.

IS: Chungha, who boasts a splendid performance, is a senior member of the agency. Do you have any special advice for the performance?

Yiyeon: More about "believing us" than giving advice. That's why i feel more energized. She always encourage us to do the well.Then she passed by and say "i think it will be more beautiful if you just use your fingertips in this choreography." And she will tell me more detailed about it.

IS: She's a meticulous senior. Like Chungha, BVNDIT will continue to meet various concepts. Is there any concept or stage that you wanted to perform? Like rolemodel.

Yiyeon: BVNDIT rolemodels are Mamamoo sunbaenim and BTOB sunbaenim. It's similar to what we want to do most. Like the sunbaenims, we want to learn how to express what we want to express on stage.

IS: In one day, just like the sunbaenim do, BVNDIT will held a concert right?

Yiyeon: It's in our goal! We really want to do it.

IS: Idols usually love to try another/different areas. What would you like to do with entertainment or acting?

Yiyeon: BVNDIT has another name called "Ambitious-idol" haha. We want to try every area, such as entertainments and actings as well.

Yiyeon: There's a lot that we want to do. I have confidence in reality show. Our staff are also very surprised to see how much we are having fun in the waiting room. Haha.

IS: What are BVNDIT strengths?

Yiyeon: It's really dance, singing and chemistry. [laughs]. And if can add one thing, i think it's "honesty". The job idol shows a variety of things. Our strong point is to show th off-stage image without being afraid.

Shell Game (14/?)

Kei and friends do some field work.

While wearing her ANBU outfit, Kei took the train to Hosu on Tuesday night. Not openly—once again, the Transformation jutsu was earning its keep—but she disappeared into back alleys and dark corners as soon as she could get away from the crowds. Skittering up brick or concrete walls like some kind of malformed frog honestly felt like a return to form. Almost like slipping on an old, well-loved sweater, though the armored uniform wasn’t acquainted with sleeves as such.

Still, standing on a roof, in the middle of a real city with real skyscrapers, kind of made her feel like Batman. Hosu was no art deco nightmare, but Kei hardly needed a gargoyle to dangle from. She had a whole skyline and plenty of air conditioning units.

The air split open on her lonely rooftop, and two similarly-uniformed shapes tumbled out in front of Kei.

It was kind of funny how much “tech” was being sneaked back into Konoha through Obito’s constant prowling. In much the same way as a tourist buying up crap for resale didn’t make waves, Obito’s half of the discretionary budget was mainly materials nobody in Tokyo cared much about. His penchant for disguises and vocal mimicry meant he could go anywhere, be anyone, and buy his own weight in kevlar.

Kei already saw the first results of that exploration when she took a look at Kakashi’s ANBU uniform. His armguards were different from Obito’s or Kei’s, even leaving aside how Kei had taken her personal pair from home. Lighter, somehow. Tight black material flattened his white hair to his head, leaving him nearly anonymous. His light gray vest settled differently against his body, betraying anti-stab armor under the cloth. Interlocking plates, apparently.

And no more open-toed shoes.

Konoha learned fast.

“Crane, Wolf, welcome to Hosu,” Kei said, while her teammates sorted themselves out.

“It stinks of smoke,” Kakashi commented almost immediately, and Kei didn’t blame him. City air was just weird after growing up in Konoha. Even the largest cities in the Land of Fire didn’t have fossil fuel dependency anything like this. His wolf mask and the skintight one underneath didn’t filter that much.

Obito patted his shoulder before quickly being brushed off. “You get used to it.”

Kakashi grunted, then his mask angled toward Kei. His left eye-slit gleamed red. “Any patrol rules, Turtle?”

“Avoid everyone.” Kei adjusted her Isobu-patterned mask for a second, just to fidget, then added, “Treat it like infiltrating Suna. The second an alarm goes up, ditch.”

“Easy enough,” Obito remarked, and Kei gave him a sharp look he ignored. The right eye-hole on his mask was also faintly glowing.

“Take the lead,” Kakashi prompted, and the three of them made their way through Hosu’s backstreets.

Though Kei hadn’t really explored this chunk of Tokyo with any intent last time, she’d been reading newspapers and checking maps in her spare time. She knew where major landmarks were, broadly speaking, and heading back to the apartment after this patrol exercise wouldn’t be difficult. If Hosu was known for anything, at the moment, it was a minor rise in violent crime.

Heroes were dying and that had everyone worried.

Kei wasn’t emotionally invested in the hero scene the way the locals were. Whenever caught up in a dangerous situation, Kei tended to rely on her own power first and only look to fellow shinobi after everything progressed past the point of no return. The idea that she could be saved by a hero, paid by the Japanese government to do good, was still a foreign one. Her experience at the USJ did show her the value of heroes as symbols of hope, at least once Obito and other people filled her in on how everyone reacted to All Might popping into the building. However, her concern about the Hero Killer had more to do with the fact that he was a serial killer than anything to do with who he was targeting.

Still, the principal had asked for a quick check-in, and here Kei was. Poking Hosu with reinforcements and a stick to see if the hornets were awake.

And we cannot even justify killing a multiple-murderer if he becomes too much of a threat to contain.

Kei slid down the outside wall of a nightclub, feeling heavy bass rumble up through her gloved fingertips. Law enforcement doesn’t work the same way here.

Of course it does not. Humans in this world depend so heavily on their technology and their heroes that they have made their world safe. Isobu growled in frustration, tails lashing around in the mindscape.

We’ve had this talk before, Isobu. Besides, from what the survivors have said? He’s not exactly in a jinchūriki’s weight class.

Barely anyone ever is.

Kei let him have the last word. Instead, she held a hand up as soon as she heard a sound around the corner of a roof, feeling her teammates freeze before making any extra noise. Kei crept closer to the edge, channeling chakra carefully toward her ears and concentrating on what she was hearing.

Across from her, Kakashi made several hand signals. Fire. Man. He paused for a second to listen to the same footsteps Kei heard, then added, Big.

Obito signed a question and Kakashi shook his head. Probably asking how big, but the angle wasn’t the best and Kei didn’t like splitting her attention.

“Nothing, again. Heading back now.”

Heroes patrolled, too. Just their bad luck that, when Kei poked her head up just before the man walked of easy view, she recognized Endeavor’s hulking frame. Of all the people who “Big, uses fire, and is a man” fit, the Number Two of all Japan’s heroes was a rather unfortunate find. His Quirk was called Hellfire, and Kei had seen footage of him channeling so much heat through his limbs that he could melt handholds into nominally-solid concrete.

Kei signalled a retreat. Her boys followed her for almost ten blocks before she stopped on a somewhat taller rooftop, crowded with ventilation units, ducts, and antennae.

“Endeavor’s not stationed here normally,” Kei said quietly, retrieving her phone from a pocket. She fiddled with it until she brought up Endeavor’s profile on some official site or other. Probably his. Then she handed her phone to Kakashi. “Stain really must be causing a panic.”

Obito hung back, Sharingan bright behind his mask as he kept alert, and Kakashi settled next to Kei’s left side.

“If a man with his face on fire wants to catch a killer,” Kakashi said after scanning the somewhat-dim screen, “he’s welcome to him. But for him to be here? Those unsuccessful hunts must really be burning him up inside.”

Obito muttered something uncharitable about puns.

Kei shoved Kakashi’s shoulder playfully and snatched her phone back. “We’ll poke around a little longer.”

Truthfully, the patrol didn’t turn up much despite GPS help and rumor-chasing. While Kakashi was primed to detect blood, city scents were overwhelming on a good day. The trio did find an old bloodstain outlined by police tape and blocked by a patrol car, but it appeared the Hero Killer didn’t actually hunt every night. He was an asshole, a murderer, and probably equipped with a dangerous Quirk if he’d managed to overpower so many pro heroes already. But he wasn’t, apparently, all that easy to find.

Besides, cigarette smoke got really bad around crime scenes. Kakashi had signed a No when asked if he could detect anything past that kind of interference. If he’d been a little less disciplined, Kei imagined he might’ve had more to say. Most of it rude.

“One more pass,” Kei said, and they hopped to it.

Between Kei’s phone and Obito’s, as well as Obito’s street-level knowledge of some of the familiar heroes who operated in the area, they managed to make a game out of spotting familiar faces. Fin-helmeted Manual, the Normal Hero, patrolled more during the daytime and seemed to be about in the same weight class as the bank robber from the weekend. Kei managed to find another hero, apparently called Native, whose costume and lack of any notable Quirk just made all three of them scratch their heads.

Well, Obito and Kei did. Kakashi didn’t know or care enough.

Most of the heroes who operated in Hosu, including famous Team Idaten—run by Ingenium and his sidekicks—seemed to be pretty secure in their positions. Maybe that was why Stain kept picking them off, because she couldn’t quite see someone higher on the hero lists getting axed by someone whose modus operandi relied heavily on ambushes. A lot of the higher-ranking heroes were there for power and skill, not just popularity.

“You know, I’m not really seeing anyone who could, like, go toe to toe with us.” Obito commented after they’d passed by a hero patrol. Moving across the city three stories up from ground level had a way of keeping them out of trouble. For now. “Maybe that Endeavor guy. But all of their Quirks are public. Does no one ever do thought exercises about that kind of thing? I mean, you fought Sensei and if you’d been anybody else he’d’ve flattened you inside of four seconds.”

“Sometimes I wonder,” Kei replied. The fact that she, better than almost anyone bar Kushina or Jiraiya, knew all of Namikaze Minato’s jutsu and his preferred fighting styles meant she’d been probably in a unique position during their spar. The idea of anybody else getting that close was a disturbing one.

There was kind of a reason it was illegal to teach non-shinobi the majority of their techniques. Shinobi from other villages, too.

Maybe that lopsided information was also why underground heroes were a thing.

After a few more rooftops, Kakashi remarked, “Maybe that’s why the firebug is here.”

Obito cartwheeled instead of landing normally as they crossed another roof. “You think?”

“Probably. But he’s having the same trouble we are.” As all three of them slowed to a stop on top of what appeared to be a four-story apartment building, Kakashi went on, “I’m willing to assume that this person we’re looking for is notorious. Distinctive to the point of having a fanclub, apparently. But I don’t think that we’re the first ones with detection abilities who’ve been called in to try and find him. He might genuinely not be here at the moment.”

Kei glanced across the way, toward the nearest train station. She scratched under the edge of her mask, recalling the discussion she’d had with Hayate about technology. Mass transit was a curse sometimes. “You’re probably right. And if he took a train, he could be anywhere by now.”

“There’s probably a way to track him with local methods, but those aren’t workable from our positions.” Kakashi tilted his head back to check the angle of the moon, or perhaps just out of curiosity. Then, “This patrol is effectively over.”

A disappointing result for Team Minato’s first reunion patrol, but there it was.

“I wish we had other agents to hand this off to,” Obito complained, as they changed into more civilian-friendly clothes inside Kamui. The pocket dimension’s obsession with white, squared-off blocks and bizarre lighting meant finding their clothing stashes was a cinch even without Obito’s help. “It feels like we’re leaving a job half-finished.”

“That’s what heroes are for,” Kei told him. Then her head finally popped out of her sweater collar and she started fussing with the neckline and sleeves. Really, throwing on street clothes over her uniform was a bit lazy, but there wasn’t anyone around to criticise her fashion choices. “And a police department. Though I don’t know how much headway they’re gonna make.”

“Not our jurisdiction.” Kakashi reappeared from behind a distant pillar, sporting a cheap medical mask with ear loops. His black turtleneck and jeans were like Tokyo versions of his jōnin uniform. Perhaps not wanting to match Obito, he’d just styled his unruly hair down over his left eye and omitted the eyepatch. When he noticed the other two staring at him, he said, “I’m not due back for another eighteen hours.”

“Oh, oh!” Obito bounced over to his teammates, grinning. “Kakashi, this place has so much weird stuff. It’s great!”

Kakashi blinked slowly at him. There was a slight edge of dawning dread in what Kei could see of his expression. His chakra flickered slightly. Then he managed to say in an even voice, “Such as?”

Obito and Kei grinned at each other. Kakashi was the newbie here.

Kei said, “Well, I know you like the Icha-Icha series, but there are like a million more options here. And there’s about five thousand types of manga. We need to hit up a bookstore, now.”

“Akihabara?” Obito suggested, his Sharingan shifting to its Mangekyō form. He’d been around Tokyo a few times by now, since he didn’t need to actually attend school.

Kei gave him a Gai-style thumbs-up. “Definitely! It’s not past curfew yet.”

“This place has a curfew,” Kakashi repeated incredulously.

“Just transform into Raidō or something if it ends up being a problem,” Kei suggested as Obito held out a hand, swirling vortex in the middle of his palm. “Anybody older than eighteenish. Twenty, maybe?”

Kakashi waited until Obito had neatly deposited them in an abandoned side-street to answer, “I think I’m fine for now.”

“Good!” Kei ushered them out into the street. “Now, let’s go find the bookstore. There has to be one still open.”

In the end, Kakashi got a new three-part romance series from a writer who obviously published under a pseudonym and a pair of truly terrible joke books. Obito bought a tourist’s guide to Tokyo and a multipack of study aids (sticky notes, highlighters, and so on), just before spotting a novel about Yoshitsune and snatching it up, too.

Kei didn’t buy anything, but she did have both of them stay overnight.

While they were sleeping, Kakashi somehow stole the comforter he’d been sharing with Obito, Obito cuddled up to Kakashi like he was some kind of pillow, and Kei woke up with her head propped up on Kakashi’s side and a crick in her neck. And none of them got up before Kei’s alarm clock.

Some things never changed.

I wrote this guide with it to be a simple guide to self-radicalize future wotas. If you disagree with me, please make a better graphic, I just want to make it easy as possible for new people to get involved.

If you are just getting into Hello Project, things can be overwhelming. So I am writing a mini-guide on my recommendations for how to get involved with the groups. In short you pick a group, then pick a girl, then cheer her on with every release, seeing her struggles and her successes.

So start with youtube and just watch like three or four videos for each group. After you decide you like a groups aesthetic, its probably best to get right into the dvd magazines to start seeing the group's personality and to see the chemistry the different girls have with each other.

A dvd magazine is a video that is about an hour long that has the girls doing something other than music, it may be back stage conversations, or on stage MC's, it could be athletic competitions, it could be punishment games, or the girls going on a vacation, or the girls eating food, etc.... dvd magazines are also the cheapest video you can buy, but if you ask around in communities, you may find people who will loan you a copy or make you a copy of their dvd magazine if you don't have money. Check the Hello!Project wiki for what the latest dvd magazine for your group is. After watching dvd magazines, its way easier to identify the girls in the group because you see them for extended periods of time, unlike the cuts in a music video. In my opinion, the best way to really start engaging in the community is to pick one or two girls who you want to cheer on and then watch their growth. Check out their member blogs and any photobooks they may have. Cheering on the idols and watching their growth is probably the most rewarding part of being a fan of an idol. After you pick your favorite members, then you can start learning about the other things they do, and all the devious ways Hello!project has devised to part you from your money. But I would not suggest spending any money on a group until you know at least half of it's member's names and colors. Also do not forget about the Kenshuusei (there is a Tokyo and a Hokkaido Kenshuusei), it can be especially rewarding to watch their journeys.

Before you spend any money, become involved in the English fan communities. There are many, and the community may be dispersed, but do not become discouraged, you are not alone. In my opinion, you should spend a lot of time at the Hello!Project Wiki, its good, detailed, and has immaculate English records of what things Hello!Project releases. If you like forums you can check out hello!online, jplop, mm-bbs, or JPHiP. for news on H!P you can check out Hello Project News Service. For images, tumblr is still pretty active. The Hello!Project twitter community is quite active. There are app-based communities like discord and amino. You can join the discord channels Hello Project Fans, here, and Hello Project Chat, here. There are translation sites like wota in translation, project blog, project hello, and hello project radio.

When you are ready to spend money there are a lot of ways to do it. You can spend money on music, live performances, videos, merchandising, or pictures. Hello Project releases music both physically and digitally (sometimes only digitally) in single and album formats. Main benefit of albums is they have new songs you have never heard recorded, main benefit of the singles is you get instrumental versions of the songs (which are fantastic! You SHOULD listen to them!). Petit Best is also an annual sampler of that years’ Hello Project music, so its an album that collects some releases for all the groups into one CD. Petit Best will sometimes be the only way to get the digital releases on CD. Each group has a number of live performances they do a year, seasonal tours (spring and autumn) along with summer and winter hello project concert tour with all of Hello!Project together, and an annual Hina-fest (notable for its random shuffle units). In addition they do other live performances for Fanclub members throughout the year. In my opinion as a music wota, the live performances are really some of the best content Hello!Project produces. There are many videos that are released including concert videos, dvd magazines, fan club videos, gravure videos (IV) for individuals and groups (every member does a gravure video as an introduction, but as time goes on they may do gravure videos that are not related to photobooks, and generally photobook making of dvds are a great way to get to know the idols themselves. Merchandising is some of the hardest stuff to get your hands on as an overseas fan, in general you have to get lucky online or attend their overseas shows. Hello project sells pictures of the idols in a variety of formats, most are available in limited quantities online.

Anyways, I hope this helps someone, as I am still learning about how to be a fan in this community as I type. Good luck and may your oshi become a center in her group... Amen, lol.

Shingeki no Kyojin chapter 99 review (+ theories)

This is it: the beginning of the end.

This chapter kickstarts the current objectives of the warriors through Zeke’s plan and Eren’s intrusion at the festival. Throughout the chapter, there was a current feeling of uneasiness running through my spine. I knew this chapter wasn’t going to be pleasant, but I really fear someone is going to die next chapter. Be it Falco who lived his usefulness to Eren, Pieck or Porco who fell into a trap by some sort of mysterious enemy, or anybody in the crowd.

Why yes, I feel that at the end of chapter 100, several people are going to pull out their titan form. Welcome to the Eldian wars 2.0!

Content-wise, it was rich: the true History of the world came to light, so did Eren’s identity. The situation of the deceased or dying warriors’ parents was revealed, Pieck’s unit has a fanclub, some mysterious soldier has been spotted and the warriors are currently being targeted.

Eren rubbing salt in Reiner’s wounds - Ch. 99

That was my worst fear from last month and it turned out to be more awful than I thought: what Eren is doing is not only preventing Reiner to pull out his titan: he’s holding the Marleans in the building as hostages and making Reiner listen to the whole story, just to give him a taste of his own medicine.

The chapter doesn’t start immediately on their dialogue. As unexpected as it was, we’ve got a flashback continuing from Bertolt’s theory about that hanged man. It ended on Bertolt’s gut telling the hanged man wanted some judgement on his actions, right when we’re cutting back to the present time. That still doesn’t confirm whether Reiner or Annie killed the hanged man, but it nails us on Bertolt’s interpretation being correct and Reiner becoming this man for a short moment. Before being found dead, he told the warrior trio his sin: running away and leaving up three kids. This is what Reiner did on a bigger scale: he left his three companions on Paradis, and he’s constantly fearing someone might come at him for that. That’s why Reiner kept torturing himself over unconsciously helping Eren up. That’s why he tried to kill himself two chapters ago. And now that Eren is right in front of him, he’s having a mental breakdown, trembling and shaking.

Reiner losing control - Ch. 99

Eren, well, as I suspected, didn’t let his rage go. I’m very pleased with what Isayama is doing with him as an antagonist. First of all, he doesn’t let suspicions up and is exploiting Falco’s naivety, so he can become his aide. Then, upset at his grandpa because he asked Eren to leave Falco alone, he brought up his regrets, as a jab against him. Lastly, in this chapter, he’s parroting Reiner’s previous wishes (making it home) and words (“We were only children, we didn’t know anything”) as a twist of the knife in the wound, while holding him and Falco hostages and implying the reason as to why he came here (wiping all his enemies out).

Such hatred in his eyes – Ch. 99

He doesn’t let out a single sweat drop, not even after Willy’s extra lines. He’s pretty much determined. I couldn’t help but think he was pissed to be ratted out like that, but that just means he’s going to unleash the rage of his titan very soon. Of course, the whole history doesn’t come at any surprise to him: he got it from Grisha’s memories and Kruger’s. The history, the Great War, the king fleeing to Paradis, the reason why Marley sent warriors on Paradis… the extra segment however was supported by two sources: Dina’s testimony about her line disagreeing with Karl Fritz’s and… this.

“How dare she tell me to bow down like that?“ - Ch. 90

Now we’ve got an explanation for Eren’s reaction in chapter 90. The words said on stage were Karl Fritz’ vow, heard four years ago from Frieda’s mouth. Frieda was basically telling Grisha to accept their fate, because no one can atone enough for the sins Paradis went through. Grisha and Eren, whose mindset was incompatible with the King’s got pissed and swore revenge on the ones humiliating them: be it the King, Marley or the whole world. That’s how they intend to regain their dignity but doing so would wake the Eldian Empire up. No matter how advances technology is now, the threat of wall titans steamrolling the world is real.

My only wish for Eren at this point is to become… fucking brutal. Throughout his journey on Paradis, he was mostly kidnapped and was often assisted in his battles. Now that he awoken the Coordinate, I’m pretty much expecting him to steamroll a whole crowd with his titan limbs alone. I want his threat in chapter 90 to have weight or else he’s going to be just a joke instead of a lethal joke who should’ve never been granted divine powers.

The actors’ lodge - Ch. 99

Willy’s personality gets even more fleshed as, not only a charismatic man, but a nervous one. To be frank, in his situation, anybody would be: he was about to reveal the truth to the whole world, with a high chance of failure if he wasn’t convincing enough. That and adding the truth according to the memories inherited by the Tybur family puts on more weight.

It was nice to see that the Asian lady, Kiyomi Azumabito, came to encourage him. I didn’t expect her to gain any more relevance after her incident with Udo, but it turns out that yes. And while she remains polite she doesn’t seem to support Marley fully, aware that the contents of the play are made to restore the Eldians’ dignity. She knows they’re treated like dirt. She doesn’t need to hear more: her visit is over.

Another surprise from the side of the privileged guests:

This man - Ch. 99

Seriously, it’s been years we were waiting for him and he’s finally appearing in the flesh. Annie’s father. The main reason why she wanted to come back. And the only resemblance they share is the size (he’s smaller than Karina) and the eye shape. He’s walking with a cane which is pretty like Annie’s story in her VN. I guess it’s considered as canon evidence, then? He’s living up to his prestige, but still pretty much in denial about his daughter not coming back. I guess that solidifies the possibility that Annie’s crystal is a death seal, then.

Also, can Bertolt’s family get any more depressing? We’ve got indications of his family and one of his parents (referred as male in the CR translation) was bedridden and passed away. The popular theory is Bertolt becoming an honorary Marlean to help his sick parent at first. That would imply he was a Gabi-type of prodigy: the ones you don’t see for decades. It’s likely they passed away, giving up any hopes their son would show up again. I’d still love to have a picture though. Maybe in a future flashback, because the families met for Reiner’s return from Paradis, alone.

I gotta add: the Hoovers and the Leonharts are the perfect representations of their fanbase. Papa Leonhart deeply believes Annie is alive and is desperate for her return with every day passing, while Hoover-san was proud of his caring son and ended up dying (inside and out).

We also have a look at the general assembly. The army, the politicians, the diplomats… everybody assisted at Willy’s public declaration. With many people of importance, the security must be airtight. Indeed, it’s the perfect opportunity to launch an attack and make a maximum of damages.

And then the curtain rises, things are already off…

During the speech

The end of the original speech - Ch. 99

Just as the curtain rose, the cadets noticed Reiner and Falco’s absence. And shortly after that, some mysterious soldier appears to separate the warriors from the main scene. Clearly, this can’t be a coincidence: Eren wanted Reiner to listen to the speech in a basement full of people, this soldier appears as the trumpets were blown to separate Zeke, Pieck and Porco from the cadets. The latter is a signal. It��s a coup planned. By who is an excellent question.

Magath ordered reports from the most insignificant anomaly because his suspicions were high as soon as Zeke warned him about Eren. And not just Eren: the same “mice” from his colony. General Calvi was quickly alerted at the end of Willy’s speech.

Then, this fake soldier called Zeke “Yeager” and ordered him to go at the front gate. Pieck recognizing him and Zeke being called that way already ticked these two off. Something is up.

Pieck’s panzer unit - Ch. 99

And because something is up, Pieck let a warning sign to her dear panzer unit. Best girl has a fanclub even in this dark, dark world. That’s lovely. What I noticed is this soldier trapping Porco and Pieck right before Willy begins his second and unexpected segment. The one ratting Eren publicly and explicitly.

My question is: who is Eren’s ally? Someone from Paradis or someone from Kruger’s old network of restorationists?

I still have trouble believing it’s someone from Paradis. Namely someone from the SC. Many people argued about him being Connie, but considering how people grow in this manga, you can’t expect him to be suddenly 20 cm taller in four years, when the growth spurt goes at 4 cm at best. Besides, it’s not the correct eye color. Connie has lighter eyes; this guy has darker eyes. Plus joining Eren at this point implies he would’ve gotten some edge during the timeskip and that guard feels very OOC for him.

It’s hard to think it can be someone from Paradis at all: until the whole colonization of Paradis took place, their inhabitants had no contact with the outside world. And even then, the island is isolated. You can’t just enter the country and organize a plan with tight surveillance around when you barely know how the underground networks in Marley function. Even the warriors needed some time before acting. The SC? They’re a mess: it’s going to be hard for Eren to find people in there who agree with him. The only exception I can see is Levi because it gives him an excuse to die. Otherwise, with Hange at command, fat chances.

The best bet is someone from Kruger’s old network. I doubt the restorationist movement died with how Marley treats Eldians, currently. The last purge with Grisha made it more quiet, but some people just wait for the messiah to come back to deliver them and make Eldia great again. What if this person was the one piloting one of the missing ships and simply took Eren with him? He doesn’t even have to report his arrival. Just sail somewhere where he can’t be found. The only hints I have of him belonging to the restorationists are A) calling Zeke “Yeager” because Zeke is well-known for destroying their movement 20 years ago, on top of being their former leader’s son and B) Him having no interest to chat with the Eldians, as a reflection of Marley’s mentality on Eldians in the restorationists’ point of view.

I’m willing to buy the hypothesis Eren found his own fanclub, thirsting on freedom and restoring Eldia’s pride. Would be an interesting turn of events to see Eren becoming the leader of his own party.

Lastly, I want to talk about the contents of Willy’s piece itself.

The History of the World

King Karl Fritz CXLV - Ch. 99

From Zeke’s plan, Willy originally had to mention about how much of a threat the island of Paradis was, so the reputation of Eldians would be preserved. However, there was one pebble slipping in Zeke’s plan while he was making an announcement: Eren. Hence why Zeke modified the plan with Magath’s help, to target his younger brother, specifically.

The play goes exactly as the books say: the Eldian Empire rose from Ymir Fritz’s ascension to power and escalated to the Great War after subjecting the world and inflict damages upon damages, with an extremely high body count from two thousand years ago: three times the current human population. Then, the houses holding each titan power began to fight each other for dominance.

What the books didn’t mention is how the civil war began. The first part of the play told us the legend of Helos: the Marlean hero who trampled the houses and made them destroy each other. He joined himself to the Tybur family and exiled Karl Fritz on Paradis. You have some symbolism between the legend and the reality: the reality features Magath, the new Helos, and Willy, the Tybur, fighting hand to hand to change Marley’s future and improve Eldians’ lives, through interior renovations. Add Zeke Fritz Yeager -who didn’t need to be tamed, he joined hands with these two- to the mix and you have the Peace trio (ZMW).

As the story goes, King Fritz took as many Eldians as he could and retreated to Paradis, where he forged the present society of the walls with his giant titans. Willy’s concluding his speech on a flashforward to the present. He omitted the part where the restorationists tried to crush Marley.

Of course, he’s saving it for the second part.

The second part, the truth, is revealed to the world. The one saying King Karl Fritz CXLV gave up on the Eldian Empire. He took pity of the oppressed, conspired with the Tyburs and gave up on his functions, to live a life with his people on Paradis, to atone for his sins, and enjoy his peace with people who knew nothing of the world, enclosed in these walls till either his power gets taken away or the people inside the walls die.

“Along with the liberation of Marley from its many years of persecution. If Marley grows strong and attempts to take the lives of the royal family or its Founding Titan… I will accept it. If Marley wishes to exterminate all Eldians… I will accept it. That is how the Eldians’ crimes were. They could never be atoned for. Eldians… Titans… They never should have existed in the first place. I will accept the responsibility of righting this wrong. But. Until the day that this retribution comes, I want to live inside the walls… I want to enjoy this brief paradise, this world without conflict. Please, I ask that you only grant me this.”

He’s kinda like a saint. Except he’s condemning now ignorant people to death, these “fools” unaware of their past sins. And this is where he clashes with the beliefs of the Attack Titan, who would never accept such a thing: Kruger didn’t consider him as a true king because he abandoned his people, Grisha neither and he ended up eating Frieda and killing the whole Reiss family, Eren even less and that’s why he’s here.

The other people have trouble swallowing this. Reiner is aware of this because of the Tybur’s information and Annie’s infiltration job. Gabi and the others are quite shocked by that, so is Karina. Calvi is staring at the scene without frowning his eyebrows while other diplomats like Ogweno are perturbed. The chapter ends on Willy pointing out the real threat: the current holder of the Attack and Founding titans, Eren Yeager. He’s now framed as the world’s public enemy and can no longer hide in safety. Zeke cornered him all along.

The reason why Willy revealed Karl Fritz’s agenda is to paint him in a positive light, because his goals align with the world’s and the Mainland Eldians’ for atoning for their sins in war. However, it was only a matter of time before a bunch of people become so dissatisfied with his choice, they’re choosing to face the world, to stand up against it.

Summary

I find this clash of ideologies interesting. The King had initially good intentions, but the population would meet the enemy with utter incomprehension and clash with it. Zeke commented the King unfortunately played his people like a fiddle. Kruger, Grisha and Dina found the King shameful for abandoning its people outside and keeping them ignorant inside. Meanwhile, you have Marley who grew power-hungry and built its empire on the remnant of their Eldian soldiers and titan powers at disposition. While 6 -7 with the Attack- of the 9 houses were no more, it was their main weapon to crush their enemies. It even came to the point where they need to crush Paradis to gain resources. The Mainland Eldians accept their fate as a way of atonement and some are happy with it, despite Marley turning into the oppressor. Of course, Magath isn’t happy with it and wishes to reform the army. Willy also wishes to advance things and try to improve the Mainland Eldians’ lives. Zeke, the warchief, helps them. The third party is the restorationists, sick of being treated like martyrs and having to bow like dogs in front of their masters, so they conspire to overthrow the authority and honor their freedom, completely ignoring why they are in this situation. Of course, Zeke denounced them before they even tempted anything, but Paradis had to pay for it instead. And now Marley is under threat.

Considering what might happen… a Clash of Titans 2.0? Eren has now a couple of witnesses who spotted him and Falco became more than inconvenient. Wouldn’t surprise me if he tried to kill him. Him positioning just in the backstage is of no coincidence, especially when the warriors are separated. If anything, I think Eren is trying to kill/eat Willy. That’s the most reasonable conclusion I can make. He knows Reiner isn’t going to attempt anything because of the innocent civilians above their heads.
