Just because an actor takes a job that seems completely unlike themselves in real life, doesn't mean they're hiding something about their personality, something that needs to be prodded out of them. It's a job. It's keeping them employed. And we know nothing of their private thoughts unless they tell us.

Also, just because a celebrity wears a pin or a piece of clothing supporting a specific community doesn't actually mean they're a part of that community. They could be. Again, we don't know until they say so themselves.

Give them some effing agency and let them come out on their own terms, if they want to or not. They may not even identify that way to begin with. There may be a whole ass other reason for how they appear in public or on social media.

Idek wtf I’m seeing on my dash rn but imma say this as a lesbian: as well intended as you may be, you’re not going to get anywhere trying to convince straight women not to date or have sex with men. And feminism isn’t even about that.

The reason liberal feminism is so popular is because it doesn’t require women to change their way of life or beliefs overly. Which isn’t a good thing, as there are behaviors and such women would benefit from criticizing and abstaining from. There’s a huge difference between telling women to not get expensive plastic surgeries or spend hours doing makeup versus telling them to give up on love and romance and having a family one day.

Decentering men for straight women is going to look different than it will on a lesbian or even bi woman who chooses not to date men. And it’s not going to look like cutting men out from their lives entirely. And no feminist movement is going to get anywhere helpful for women if that is something you’re looking to encourage.

The refusal to see that and figure out how to reach those women and teach them how to de center men without ruling out the possibility of love and romance will kill any chance of women considering more effective feminist ideologies that will actually improve women’s lives. Het women wanting love are not your enemies.

Also that said, het women, learn how to articulate what I just did without the crocodile tears acting like people are breaking into your room and personally burning and killing any man you want to fuck/date. The hyperbole is tedious. Stop using arguments based entirely in pathos, and add some logos to it.

I know what is the principle behind some people being upset about her choice of words, but did they forget about the context? She's a public figure, sure, but she's also literally nineteen years old. A teenager. She's been harrassed by right-wingers and misogynists, many times sexually, way before she was an adult. And this creep known for boasting about abusing women, and who has been investigated for these allegations for some time already contacts her directly. How did she hurt him exactly? Writing a very mild joke about the only thing he cares about: his dick? Some people need to turn on their brain.

just had an absolutely sickening conversation with a 20 year old I work with wherein I had to impress upon her that her and her friends need to be extremely cautious going to the gay clubs right now with increasing attacks happening. make sure any very young, very newly adult queer people in your life know that we're a family and community and part of that is being willing to fight for your siblings lives if they're under attack. even if it's a person you despise, you stick up for your family and they will stick up for you. we are all we have. the cops refuse to help, and so do most people outside the community. we cannot survive without each other
