SPACEMAS DAY 17 ✨🪐🌎☄️☀️🌕
The Ring Nebula (M57), is more complicated than it appears through a small telescope. The easily visible central ring is about one light-year across, but this remarkable exposure by the James Webb Space Telescope explores this popular nebula with an exposure in infrared light. Strings of gas, like eyelashes around a cosmic eye, become evident around the nebula in this digitally enhanced featured image in assigned colors. These long filaments may be caused by the shadowing of knots of dense gas in the ring from energetic light emitted within. The Ring Nebula is an elongated planetary nebula, a type of gas cloud created when a Sun-like star evolves to throw off its outer atmosphere to become a white dwarf star. The central oval in the Ring Nebula lies about 2,500 light-years away toward the musical constellation Lyra.

I used @adskfusion360 to design this nice Coffeeshop Bebop Leiden key tag. It is double-sided and look great in my opinion. Simple and clean how we like it. This one is printed on the Prusa i3 MK3S+ & MMU2S by @josefprusa in @filament_pm PETG. #3dprinting #3dprintingcommunity #3dprinter #3dprinted #3dprint #3dmodel #3dmodeling #3dp #autodesk #fusion360 #prusa3d #prusai3mk3s #mmu #filamentpm #petg #filaments #coffeeshopbebop #bebopleiden #maker #additivemanufacturing #de3dprintman (at Leiderdorp) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn4jCx5NP44/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Physicists Break Record Firing a Laser Down Their University Corridor
Physicists have just set a new record confining a self-focused laser pulse to a cage of air, down the length of a 45 meter-long (148 foot-long) university corridor.
With previous results falling well short of a meter, this newest experiment led by physicist Howard Milchberg of the University of Maryland (UMD) breaks new ground for confining light to channels known as air waveguides.

Known for its iconic blue stars, the Pleiades is shown here in infrared light where the surrounding dust outshines the stars. Three infrared colours have been mapped into visual colours. The base images were taken by NASA's orbiting Wide Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) spacecraft. Cataloged as M45 and nicknamed the Seven Sisters, the Pleiades star cluster is situated in a passing dust cloud. The light and winds from the massive Pleiades stars preferentially repel smaller dust particles, causing the dust to become stratified into filaments, as seen.

This is the awesome Serpentor from GI Joe designed by @chaoscoretech for @3dprintingnerd. It looks great in the @extrudr PLA NX2 Orange and Blue Steel and is printed in 0.16mm layers on the @kywoo_official Tycoon Max. Seeing Circuits in the Cosmos
“We know that an electric current in plasma generates its own magnetic field and can self-constrict the current channel. This is called a Bennett pinch (or Z-pinch) effect—and is able to produce filaments of current that maintain their shape over vast distances. Multiple filaments tend to spiral around each other, forming helical circuits that transmit electrical charge throughout the cosmos. Almost every body in the Universe displays some kind of filamentation. Venus has a tail composed of invisible “stringy things” (NASA's description). Comets have tails composed of visible stringy things or in reality, Ion tails. The neon-light-glow of planetary nebula look like intricate webs of filamentary, braided string. The spiral arms of some galaxies look hairy with threads of material extending out from their galactic center. Now if these filaments are Birkeland currents as the EU Model suggests—and we're only seeing the visible structures—the rest of the circuit will generate the magnetic fields that are consistently being mapped to help us grasp the extent of these cosmic circuits. Yet another reason why the EU Model of Cosmology is a viable alternative to the Standard Model by seeing, and defining, circuits in the big picture of the cosmos. Its predictive success rate alone demands attention.”

These γ-tubulin ring complexes are present in the cortical cytoplasm, sometimes associated with the microtubule branches (Figure 1.26A-C), similar to how Arp 2/3 is present at branches of microfilaments. (...) Next, the protofilaments (the number varies with species) associate laterally to form a flat sheet (see Figure 1.26A). The sheet curls into a cylindrical microtubule as GTP is hydrolyzed (see Figure 1.26B). (...) The hydrolysis of GTP to GDP on the β-tubulin subunit causes the dimer to bend slightly, and if the rate of GTP hydrolysis "catches up" with the rate of addition of new heterodimers, the GTP-charged cap of tubulin vanishes and the protofilaments come apart from each other, initiating a catastrophic depolymerization that is much more rapid than the rate of polymerization (see Figure 1.26C). (...) This process is called dynamic instability (see Figure 1.26A-C).

However, plant microtubules can be released from γ-tubulin ring complexes by an ATPase, katanin (from the Japanese word katana, "samurai sword"), which severs the microtubule at the point where the growing microtubule branches off another (see Figure 1.26D). (...) During treadmilling, tubulin heterodimers are added to the growing plus end at about the same rate that they are removed from the shrinking minus end (see Figure 1.26D). The actual tubulin subunits do not move relative to the cell once they are polymerized into the microtubule (see shaded region in Figure 1.26D), because the microtubule is usually bound to a membrane through a variety of MAPs.

Hair
Hair is so weird. I have a large number of pigmented keratin filaments coming out of the top of my head. This morning I washed them to remove their surface coating and then applied a new coating so I could sculpt the mass of filaments. The filaments are continuously being extruded, so I periodically use blades to remove the oldest part of every filament. Sometimes filaments fall out and become household debris.
