I know most of you aren't here for my m->f genderbent faves fics, but I also know at least some of you do read at least some of the fics. And I feel like working on one, but am having trouble deciding which to pick! So I leave it in your hands:

Love, Pride & Delicacy is a period-set, slow-burn f/f Elizabeth/Darcy fic.

Daughters of Númenor is an episodic AU where the Númenórean throwbacks in LOTR are genderbent; Aranor/Míriel.

One More Tomorrow is an Amon-centric Legend of Korra AU with f!Tarrlok.

The Lucy Skywalker series is a sprawling AU that is approaching the ROTJ storyline.

The queer Rogue One AU is a series/fic where every member of the core Rogue One team is queer, including a firmly lesbian Cassia Andor.

The fic for The Borgias has mostly unposted scraps about Cesarina's life as a marriageable young woman.

The unnamed modern P&P AU is this AU with lesbian!Darcy/Narcissa as a rich Seattleite.

OC creators that helped me through 2023

You, @shrinkthisviolet, @lady-of-the-spirit, @dream-beyond-the-fantasy and @daughter-of-melpomene have all helped throughout this year - most of you I only found out about through the OC Creator Bingo, which was a fabulous creation that not only connected me to other OC creators but gave me the confidence to create OC masterlists and to be more comfortable in talking about my OCs, to create moodboards and web weaves which really do work in helping the ideas flow, and I love seeing everyone's OCs and how much work goes into them, and it cheers me up whenever I'm tagged in an event or an OC post.

OC fics of others that helped make 2023 a little better

i still love you (i promise) by @shrinkthisviolet - broke my heart many times but there's many good moments too and the revelation is worth it.

just close your eyes, soon we'll be home by @lady-of-the-spirit - I love Ioana/Joan and her interactions with The Old Guard so much! They're family!

Never Knew by InvisibleObserver13 - always love a good long-lost child fic, and this is such an interesting take on the trope and the kid OCs are all well written and the family tension is believable, even though I do hope it gets resolved

The Prayer by @arrthurpendragon - I'm a little behind on this but I've read the first seven chapters and I already love it and Nerissa and Merlin's dynamic (always love well-written siblings), and the tags are funny because we know what Nerissa and Arthur are going to become, so the slow burn is going to be good

Little Bit by sabershadowkat - a Buffyverse fic with an OC who is Angel's half-human daughter and one I recently rediscovered. I love the character of Kathleen so much and it remains one of my favourite stories in the fandom

OCs of others that made 2023 not so crummy

Morgan Wells (shrinkthisviolet) - a beautifully well-rounded young girl who deserves the absolute world (and whose not-father I am going to personally yeet into the sun).

Lucy Kenobi (shrinkthisviolet) - the Skywalker triplet who seamlessly fits into the Star Wars 'verse, and whose dynamics with Luke and Leia and Obi-Wan are always a compelling read, and I look forward to seeing her become a Jedi.

Molly Yates (dreambeyondthefantasy) - a great Whoniverse OC who fits in well with the Sarah Jane team, and I love reading about her and I'm definitely going to catch up on the fics soon.

Cheryl Johnston (daughter-of-melphomene) - the first and so far only Bill & Ted OC I've seen but I already love her so much, and I love finding out more about her when I send asks and I really look forward to seeing more of her in the future.

Ioana/Joan (lady-of-the-spirit) - I was delighted to find out I wasn't the only person with an Old Guard OC and I love this woman, though I desperately want to give her a hug because of her backstory, because of the fact that she met most of the Immortals after her first death and Booker at one point, so she doesn't dream about any of them and spends centuries thinking she's the only one. And that's just tragic.

Marianne (lady-of-the-spirit) - I've only read five chapters of the fic but I already love this mutant because of how protective she is of the younger cast and how unwilling she is to put up with Charles's bullshit. She's also a great mother and her son is amazing and I love him too.

Project some love into 2024 for another OC creator or fic

I love them all, of course, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing more of Molly Yates!! And Cheryl Johnston too - she's going to be a good fit in the Bill & Ted verse, I just know it!!

Send some love to yourself on which of your fics & OCs you'd like to project some positivity for into 2024

I want to give some to love, you're not alone (cause i'm gonna stand by you) and my OCs Steph Taylor and Alyssa Clayton. I haven't updated the story for a while but I'm really hoping to work on it in 2024 because I've have a really good story that I want to tell (and I'm very interested to see what other canon characters, OCs, and plot points will show up).

OC posts of your own you're particularly proud of from 2023.

I've made so many this year, but I do love the Main OC and Side OC masterlists - I love updating them and they're a great way to keep track of things, though I also love the character introductions I've done even for OCs I've had for years. There's something nice about giving a small summary of the OC and their story.

An Important Issue

Hello, followers and non-followers who are bumping into this post! How are you doing? I hope everything is alright with you, folks. I’m here once again to talk about my situation and give you a bit of more information on how that commission thing is going to work. In case you have no idea what I am talking about, I was fired from my job a few days ago.

I think it’s right to say that this year hasn’t exactly been easy for anyone - we are all trying our best to keep going and not let this whole situation get us down. However, being unemployed right now is difficult. I’ve been on Tumblr for a long time and it has always been my pleasure to write fanfics for free so everyone could read them... But, in the light of this new reality, I thought that I could earn some money from something I really enjoy doing: writing.

If you’re interested in helping me, please click on the “read more” button - I’m going to explain a bit more of how the request system is going to work. If you can’t help me, I appreaciate that you’ve read this post so far and would be really thankfull if you could reblog it so it can reach more people.

Hello again for those who have decided to keep reading this!

I won’t be opening my requests for all of the fandoms I’ve written before, so the first thing you should do is to check this list. I've linked my work to each fandom name, in case you want to check out my writing before considering requesting.

° Descendants: I've mostly written for Carlos De Vil, but I am open to write for Evie as well.

° Harry Potter: Requests will be open for Harry Potter himself, Ron Weasley and Neville Longbottom from the Golden Trio Era. I will also write for young Sirius and Remus from the Marauders Era, though.

° I Am Not Okay With This: Requests are very open for Stanley Barber. Can handle some angst for him.

° IT (2017/2019): Keep it in mind that I am better when I'm writing teenagers and stuff, but I would be down for some adult losers fics. I write for everyone in the Losers Club, so be free to request something for any of them.

° Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children: oh, I've missed writing for this fandom. You can request for Millard Nullings, Enoch O'Connor, Hugh Apiston and Horace Somnusson. I've read the first three books, but I still have to catch up with the rest so, if your request is book-related, keep that in mind.

° Mystic Messenger: oh, my boys and my girl. Requests will be open for Saeyoung Choi, Yoosung Kim and Jaehee Kang. (Jumin and ZEN are quite difficult for me to write, I'm so sorry). I'm glad to say, however, that I'm halfway through Saeran route, so I think that pretty soon he will make it to the list as well.

° Star Wars: I absolutely love writing for Luke Skywalker, sooo requests will definitely be open for him. Anakin's requests are also open.

° Supernatural: I adore Sammy boy. I've only written for him once, but it was really fun and I loved it. Totally up for doing it again.

° The 100: okay, I haven't watched the last season yet and, to be honest, not sure if I would be able to write good stuff for the last seasons. If plot related, please, send requests for the first two seasons. I do accept AUs or Ark Era requests. I will be writing for Jasper Jordan, Monty Green, Bellamy Blake and John Murphy.

° The Chronicles of Narnia: ugh, love Edmund to death and I really miss writing for him. Requests also will be open for Lucy!

° The Umbrella Academy: I loved Season Two and would love to write for my favorite siblings. Opening my requests for Ben, Diego, Klaus, Five and Vanya!!

° Twilight: my one and only Twilight story kinda has lots of notes even though it was really short, I would love to write something longer for you guys. Requests will be open for Quil Ateara V, Embry Call and Seth Clearwater.

My requests will also be open for Cinderella Phenomenon and BTS! Since I haven’t written for neither of these fandoms before, the first few requests are going to be done for free - so the fans can get to know my writing before paying for anything. It’s going to be a good opportunity for me to test the waters with the characters as well!

° CP fans, feel free to send requests for Waltz, Fritz and Rod! I love those three boys to death and would love to write something for them. As for ARMY, you can request an imagine, headcanon or reaction for any of the boys!

I do not write smut. I’m really sorry about that, but I just don’t feel very comfortable with it. I’m all down for some heated make out sessions - but that is as far as I can go.

I don’t feel very comfortable writing sensitive subjetcs such as self harm.

I love sweet domestic stories, but am not really a fan of writing characters as parents.

This one is not exactly a rule, it’s more of a heads up for the ones that are not familiar with my writing yet: I’m at my best when I’m writing fluff and I’m a sucker for soulmate aus - I’m all in for those. Although I’m not very experienced in writing angst, you can request it if you want. I’m more than willing to try it out!

You know what could be REALLY painful? A Timeless She Loves Me!AU. Pick a ship, any ship. Garcia Flynn and Lucy Preston as huge-ass nerds who would write long, impassioned letters to each other. Lucy and one Mr. Wyatt Logan who charms her with his Texanisms in his letters that he dare not bring out at work, breathtakingly insightful even if he never went to college. Or what about Rufus and Jiya? Notes written in chicken scratch and sci-fi puns, opposites attract despite various nerd rivalries.

Listen, @dorothy-williams and I have NEVER tried to persuade ANYONE @qqueenofhades to write a Garcy She Loves Me!AU despite how fantastic that person qqueenofhades would be at it because we understand that qqueenofhades she is FAR too busy to take on another project like that.

For Riya… oh my goodness. They’d have to work in like, a comic book shop or something. Run by Mason of course. And ohhhhhh no, you do NOT want to work with Rufus and Jiya because if you thought the Star Wars vs. Star Trek thing was a joke you have NOT had to deal with those two. Jiya called Luke Skywalker a “crappy George Lucas Mary Sue” and Rufus said Star Trek was “cheesy and overdone by amateur actors” and they have not spoken nicely to each other since.

Odd, really, that they’ve got this letter correspondence going–they got one another’s usernames during a Stargate fic exchange and just… kept talking ever since. Rufus is always delighted with the bad puns and astute observations of his pen pal, and he just knows she’s the cutest most adorable woman on the planet. Jiya adores each letter she gets, eagerly reading the wonderful and heartbreaking character insights her pen pal makes, and laughing at all the behind the scenes knowledge he has.

They’re determined to meet in person so when they arrange to meet at a con, there’s absolutely nothing that could go wrong, right? …right?

I would write a Garcyatt version if I could think of how to wrangle three people keeping up a correspondence without it being too much like cheating (something I have a very hard and fast rule against, and something you have to be careful with in polyamorous fics: to make it clear that there’s no question of infidelity or going behind anyone’s back).

But yes this is definitely not something I have thought about certain people qqueenofhades writing in any capacity. Ahem.

Things I notice: first, most of these (7/10) are ficathon entries. I have a problem finishing things unless I have a deadline. I have lots of fic that I have ideas for, but it takes a while to get out onto the screen without outside pressure of some sort. (And, alas, people commenting on WIPs asking for updates doesn’t seem to do the trick, or Past Lives would be done by now.)

Second, only one of these stories has a white man as a viewpoint character. This is not surprising to me, because it’s a deliberate choice. Our society pays far more attention to white men than anybody else, and fandom largely reflects that. So my general rule of thumb is to not tell stories about white men, because they’re more likely to be told with or without my attention. This is both a social justice issue and an artistic issue. Untrodden territories give me more scope. It’s also a practical issue; I always have lots of plot bunnies, more than I could ever write, and tossing out the ones about white men (unless they’re REALLY compelling to me) helps me narrow down the field and make a decision.

Third, I am very definitely poly-fannish. There’s only one fandom that repeats, and that’s a metafandom. Nerys and the Emissary and Solivagant are both Star Trek fics, but one is DS9 and the other is TOS.

I saw a comment about the Lucyverse being abandoned and was like *Victorian lady affronted gasp* what?!

I last updated in—um, well, yes, it was 2021 and I flit between lots of projects even when I have the energy for doing anything at all. But I would never abandon her for good!! I have a completed sixteen page outline for the next fic, I just need to find the discipline and space to write it!!!

(I even have a plan for the fic after the fic I wrote the outline for. I can't even imagine not having Lucy fic percolating in the back of my mind at this point. I've been poking at the series since 2011 and I spent ~5 years figuring out and writing the most recent one.)

I often have very clear images in my head of the genderbent versions of [x male character] that I write. Usually they're easy to envision, especially if the original is in a purely textual format (Faramir, Darcy), but it's not hard to mentally adapt from an animated version, either (say Tarrlok, even though his facial design shifts around pretty drastically).

It can be a little more complicated with live-action—I tend to deliberately construct the genderbent version in my head as an amalgamation of the original male actor, actresses who could have been cast in the role had it been available to them, and other actresses who have the look and vibe I'm going for. So for instance, my image of f!Luke Skywalker is naturally influenced by Mark Hamill, but also has aspects of young Sissy Spacek, Emilie de Ravin, etc.

Anyway the point is that I'm not usually at a loss for mental pictures of genderbent characters, but despite absolutely loving f!Gale, I only had a vague mental image of her (maybe because Gale himself looks kind of generic to me apart from details like the magic lines, his earring, etc). But gradually my mental image has just morphed into Lena Headey even though she doesn't really look like Gale. IDK.

Ooh, interesting! I have many, many WIPs, so ... let's see. I was trying to vary which WIPs I picked, but I think I'll go with the next of my Lucyverse/f!Luke Skywalker fics again. I won't give the context, but:

"Father—" Lucy's throat burned, but she seized his arm as well as she could, her fingers barely digging into the metallic cloth. "Haven't you had enough of masters?"

Is there a fic concept you have that you’d like to just explain and share because you’re not sure you’ll ever write it? If so, what is it?

I've mentioned it before, but speaking of P&P AUs significantly involving the Gardiners, one I've thought of for years takes the simple premise that the weird Darcy/Elizabeth rumor that reaches Lady Catherine just doesn't happen. Jane/Bingley goes off as in canon, but Elizabeth and Darcy are still in their high-octane pining phase. Darcy leaves Netherfield with nothing resolved, and both have only the likelihood of their paths continuing to cross and hopes that maybe, hopefully, his/her feelings will become reciprocated over time...

The path-crossing happens somewhat earlier than anticipated, though, because a little while later, Darcy and Georgiana return to London while Elizabeth is visiting the Gardiners. Darcy pays a respectful visit only to find Elizabeth there(!!!! on both sides) and the Gardiners helpfully keep inviting him/him and Georgiana, and Elizabeth and Darcy spend the time pining, repressing burning UST, and trying to act Very Normal as they navigate their strange relationship. Eventually Darcy does piece together enough hints to get the hope to propose again, Elizabeth accepts, HEA etc.

For no particular reason: a grab-bag of answers to questions I've gotten, usually more than once, on my SW fics. Austen ones later!

Lucy Skywalker:

1— Why did you use "Lucy" for your female Luke Skywalker instead of something more space-like/Star Wars-y?

Because "Luke" itself isn't that kind of name. It's the perfectly common English form of a real, old, familiar name. I was looking for something analogous—a name with a common English form, something that's been around for a very long time, ideally with a similar appearance to "Luke." I stand by my opinion that "Lucy" is the closest fit, not something "spacier."

2— Why are Lucy and Leia seventeen c. ANH instead of the canonical nineteen?

Because Star Wars "canon" is a shape-shifting void beast and I stick firmly to the films and sometimes scripts. The movies don't give Luke and Leia's ages at any point in the OT, but the ANH script says Luke is eighteen and Leia is about sixteen. For the Lucyverse, I averaged them out to seventeen.

3— Why is the wampa episode different, with Wedge Antilles captured first?

The pervasive misogyny of most GFFA societies in the Lucy fics led to Lucy being ultimately accepted into Rogue Squadron but not as leader; Wedge occupies Luke's role as commander and even gets his shifts. Consequently, he's the one in place to get mauled by the wampa, but he has less options for escape and would have died if not for Lucy and Han's impromptu rescue mission.

The other reason is that the changes to the sequence made it more interesting to write about than just ... novelization-style with a pronoun switch, which I'd already done through much of the first fic.

4— Speaking of the pervasive misogyny of the GFFA in the Lucy fics, why is that a thing?

When I look at the roles of women in the prequels and then at the near-total dearth of them in the OT, the difference is very glaring. Maybe this is just a relic of the respective times in which they were made, but idk, it feels like the domination of white human men during the Emperor's reign has a certain resonance with Imperial era politics. That includes the fact that (as depicted in the OT) the military arm of the Alliance is scarcely better in this regard. It genuinely feels to me like there's been real, in-world, large-scale change from the PT era.

And I generally prefer to lean into fucked-up aspects of a canon and underscore what's wrong with them rather than to headcanon them away. So that's what I was doing there.

And the idea that the particular misogyny of the Empire flows down from Palpatine and this minefield changes Anakin/Vader's approach to Lucy (and hers to him) was far more interesting to write about than "everything is basically the same, lala what systematic misogyny." The events of The Jedi and the Sith Lord were always part of my plan for the fic and one of the main things that made it interesting to work towards.

SW: Rogue One

1— The idea of Cassian being from Alderaan is, um, interesting, but according to the Expanded Universe—

The extent to which I do not care about the SWEU can hardly be overstated. Please feel free to stop correcting my fanfic with SWEU/TV show factoids.

(Sidenote: I only wrote Alderaanian!Cassian in the ad astra verse, though he speaks Alderaanian in all of them.)

2— Will you ever finish per ardua ad astra?

Yes. I'm sorry it's taking so long, but I will if it kills me.

3— You've talked about Leia/Jyn/Cassian, but ...

I do actually have two fic ideas for it. I've written some of one, but not the other (and of course, I prefer the scenario I haven't written). I do hope to write some, someday.

4— Will you ever finish the Persuasion fusion with Wentworth!Jyn and Anne!Cassian?

Probably not. ;_;

SW: Other

1— Your Skywalker headcanons about Tatooine slave culture are interesting. Are you going to do more with those?

My Skywalker headcanons are not Tatooine slave culture headcanons. The enslavement of Shmi and her surviving people happened in her young adulthood in nearly all my fics.

I will do more with my headcanons about the Alsarai, though!

2— Will you ever write the sequel to Revenge of the Jedi?

Probably not. I had it planned and outlined, but a lot of the ideas got absorbed into other fics, and I'm not feeling it these days.

3— Will you ever continue the one-shot fic where Vader defects with Luke in ROTJ?

Yes and no. I can't really say more.

4— Is Anakin really Leia's stepfather in Redemption?

Yes.
