despite your fruquent, and rather bothersome protests, hotch never failed to respond in the most loving of voices, with some form of pet name attachted to the tail end of the sentance, despite your relationship being strictly professional. boss and agent.

despite your wounded shoulder, you continued to voice your detestment of hospitals rather loudly as you were wheeled of the ambulance to the hospital, hotchner still by youre side.

it was a miracle that aaron hadnt strangled you by the time your surgery was approved. you were swarmed and rushed into an operating room, but not before aaron leaned to your ear as if whispering you a secret.

"good luck agent, I'll be sure to take you out for dinner after this, it's only polite after all.." you hadnt realised th meaning behind his words until aaron pulled back, and winked right at you.

strolling out the door like it was a normal monday and he hadnt just asked you on a date.

somehow hotchner's words were your good luck charm during surgery, dreaming of your date.

Fear of Hospitals, Needles, & Doctors: Whump

I myself have a fear of needles & such, and carry around the constant anxiety of being hospitalized. Surprisingly reading hospital themed whump isn't a squick for me. Opposite almost.

Instead that adrenaline feuled fear only kicks in after me, the doctor, and the IV enter the same space. Stupid brain.

Here's other ways your hospital phobic Whumpee may react when trapped in the situation, that I don't see pointed out too much.

Remaining calm until the equipment or big doctor arrive

Thrashing, screaming, and refusing to listen

Having to be strapped to a table (lemme tell ya, it's a crazy experience)

Several doctors (& caretaker) having to hold whumpee down just to continue the process or apply the straps. Some against their arms, some against their legs.

Whumpee blacking out, unable to recall what happened

Ripping the IV our of their arm upon waking

Sobbing hysterically when they realize where they are

Pleading and protesting every tube, needle, or medication

The escape artist (it's all apart of fight or flight)

Complicating or botching their own procedure, furthering their panic and now the panic of those around them

The betrayed cries as sedatives kick in

Whumpee knocking things over in their panic, or grabbing onto to things with an unbridled death grip

Frankie has a fear of hospitals, and it's not surprising considering the tragic history of his family. Frankie's parents and two brothers all passed away due to separate accidents, but it was in the hospital where they ultimately lost their lives. Los Angeles Times! See me, more patients and the studio!

So you may have wondered why Habersham's story followed so quickly on the heels of Lucky the Bear's, and the reason is, it was a bit of a teaser.

Over the past few months, I have been interviewed for almost 2 hours by a reporter for the LA Times. Then a photographer came out to the hospital and took photos of me and the hospital and the patients I had at the time (for another two hours!). And then a few weeks ago, another photographer came out to take portraits of the patients I had then. Including one of Habersham. Then, yesterday, September 10, this appeared as the cover of the LA Times Calendar section:

That's Habersham before his surgery. And a wonderful play on Tears for Fears for the title of the story. :-) There's a two page spread inside the paper, and you can read it, and see a lot (if not all) of the photos online here. If the link doesn't work, you can also go to the LA Times and search "toy hospital" in the search box on the site and you should find the article that way too.

Anyway, as you may imagine, I've been doing a bit of a happy dance about the story all weekend. And I really wanted to share it with all of you because a) I thought you might enjoy the article and b) the reporter found me in part because of this blog which you all have chosen to read and follow and like over the years, so you all deserve thanks for the article too!

The city where I grew up and where my parents live was under attack today again.

There is a spot in the city where several medical and civilian infrastructure buildings are located very close to each other.

Guess which area russian invaders hit with a missile?

There are victims. I know it even though there has not yet been an official announcement because my mom is a doctor and all medics in the city know each other, it's a very tightly-knit professional community.

The target was a hospital that is located right next to a school, a college, a veterinarian clinic, an ambulance station, and a historic site. The attack happened in the middle of the day only a couple of minutes after the air raid alarm had sounded. Children were at school, doctors and nurses were at work.

Earlier this week, another clinic was attacked with drones. Fortunately, no one was killed that night.

Russian troops are deliberately attacking medical institutions in Sumy as they've done in Syria.

This is a war crime.

Got busy this weekend and couldnt draw much so today I did this silly thing :3

Something sweet about the Prototype qwq I find it endearing those two would get so happy when the prototype is near while other toys would feel intimidated by them XD I will make more silly doodles about why Zero thinks so high of the Prototype in the future :D

Also Zero chirps when they are very happy (The only one who got to hear them is 1006 till now, Zero is a bit embarrased because he cannot control it but with 1006 he lowers his guard but also acts childish around him too HAHA)

Thinking about William as a metaphor for disability again. Thinking about how William got into an accident and suddenly he's watching his body rot and fall apart. How does he cope with that? How do his family and friends cope with that? Thinking about how he died, and in a way he and the people around him have to mourn that. How when you're recently disabled you might mourn the ability you've lost, and people around you might mourn because they believe they've lost something too even though you're still RIGHT THERE. Thinking about the monsters in Deadwood being attracted to the wisps and ultimately forcing him to leave home and how that reflects the world suddenly becoming inhospitable and hostile towards you overnight. How rather than making Deadwood safer for William, he had to just leave. How often the way the world treats disabled people forces them to retreat from it in some way. How William was just arguing that the Lich didn't have rights because it wasn't alive, and then finding out he's dead too. How disabled people have their disability stripped from them by people who think they'll never be disabled so why should they care. Are you listening to me
