so far in my rewrite ive been following the length of normal chapters. problem is, that takes forever. would people prefer shorter but more frequent chapters, or longer and less frequent? this is assuming people will actually read it lmao

honestly understandable however i will share that the actual inspiration 4 this ch was ‘fablehaven: secrets of the dragon sanctuary’ which is book 4 in the children’s fantasy series fablehaven which i read at least 3 times growing up bc i loved it so much <3 book 4 is actually the only book i own from the series bc i thought it was SO fun that i needed my own copy….contained a plot twist that shook 11 year old me 2 my core etc. & it features the protagonists going into this underground structure w a series of traps 2 get a special magical item at the very bottom <3 anyway ty glad u enjoyed <3
#i just didn’t wanna write them breaking into the bank bc like#either i’d have 2 come up w new problems&issues etc or just rewrite what happens in the books…#so i was like where else could i have them go 2 get this. & then i thought of fablehaven my beloved….#can see why it would give sorcerers stone vibes too i mean the format of like. break into underground lair & face traps 2 get object#is popular across a lot of media lol#ask#wfrau

Roleswap Fablehaven AU? I'm intrigued and wish to know more

Roleswap is an alternate universe Fablehaven I play in where the "roles" the different characters serve are swapped around. For example, Seth's character being our light protagonist who escapes and gets the help of the fairy queen in book 1 while Kendra fights the revenant in book 2 and acquires the shadowcharmer powers. I don't have defined swaps for most of the characters, but the idea is that the two swapped roles should be either "feel natural" or be as much of a foil to each other as possible.
Other swaps I have thought about include:
Navarog <--> Raxtus
Warren <--> Vanessa
Lena <--> Patton
Bracken <--> Ronodin
Of course not every character has a foil or a natural duality in Fablehaven. Dale is hovering around in swap space forever until I find a funny spot to put him. And I'm sort of lukewarm on how much of the world I want to swap. For example should the Fairy Queen take on the role of villain? She isn't as much of a character as she is a worldbuilding piece, and so much rewritting to lore would have to happen if I wanted to keep her in character while also being the entity trapped in Zzyzx.
Another thing thats specific to "my" role swap is that I want to try to keep everyone's backstories as close to the same as possible. Seth is still the younger rascal sibling for example, he just made a different decision and this timeline went off the rails. Raxtus isn't a demon dragon in this timeline, he's just slightly meaner and angry enough at his dad that he would side with the society.
My most intense backstory change would probably be that the Bracken and Ronodin backstory proceeds as normal but Bracken actually finds Ronodin before the total corruption occurs, and is so jaded by trying to hunt down his cousin (he doesn't want to kill him but his mom is insisting that the stasis of the fairy realm needs to remain perfect) and experiencing the mortal and demonic realms that he winds up taking his place in whatever ritual went down to solidify Ronodin's corruption, and now the two of them are angry at each other forever because neither of them really wanted to be in this position. (Ronodin semi-unwillingly redeemed and Bracken semi-unwillingly corrupted). Idk how Ronodin wound up in Sphinx babyjail though.
Anyways its also an excuse to give Kendra more screentime in my brain. She deserves to kill people :3c

my mind has just had a lot of ideas going through it as of late and i don't have enough time to do everything all at once so i have to spread it out
like a river/rose/missy drawing
or my doctor who reacts fic
and then theres my fablehaven reads the books fic which i need to rewrite
there's also my kotlc rewrite which i need to get back to
also my genshin impact x twisted wonderland cross over fic
plus my fablehaven time travel fix it fic which i'm working on the bones
i've also got play practice going on and school
but then i have a bunch more ideas plodding around in my head and i have to try and ignore them so that i can focus on my other stuff but gods is it difficult.

3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?
a plan is a suggestion and a suggestion can be destroyed in a moment. My process for longer fics looks something like this:
I get an idea
I start writing
I get a better idea
I rewrite that same scene
I get an even better idea
I spend some time writing little notes about where I want the story to go and what scenes are essential to the vibe
sometimes these notes are several thousands words
I scrap the original scene entirely and start writing again
I rewrite as I need and put excess that I like into a dumpster document
I write 15k for a total of three chapters
I stop writing
I remove a 3k scene from chapter three to replace it with more swords and less emotional revelations to make later emotional revelations hit harder
my dumpster document has 12k words in it
I keep writing
For oneshots, the process looks like:

edit five times
profit :D
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
yeah actually yeah. my very first foray into horror was a minecraft fanfiction where steve went insane after looking at an enderman and killed his village while addressing his narrative to alex, who died on the expedition to the end. It was my first time getting possessed and writing 2k in one day and the very first time I wrote something that I was genuinely proud of. I don't think about my fics from those baby-writer days very often but I look back on that one fondly because it proved to me that I could just. write things that I liked. also 12 yos are terrifying and truly do not understand that 'horror' can be. hm. subtle. less murdery.
14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back?
I once loaned the first book of Fablehaven to a friend one of the last times I ever saw her and I will never got it back, so now the rest of the series is sitting in a box without the first of its troop. First and last time i loaned a book altho if someone asked now I would still do it, because I am no longer seven and am now capable of following up and remembering i loaned a book in the first place

I remember when I would check every week if there's gonna be a Fablehaven sequel. Then the Dragonwatch showed up. I was so excited back then… And now I wish it had never existed.
Aww, I'm sorry love. I kinda get that. Like- I like some of the ideas introduced but the execution of the series- it was a major let down. It doesn't feel like the same kind of world as Fablehaven at all, and it doesn't seem to have the same care put into it that Fablehaven has too.
It sucks, I wish we'd gotten something better.
