A Taste For Adventure!
Even when Sonic is moping around not wanting to help, Amy's raring to go! Just like Sonic, she has a backstory for how she turned pink, which involves getting blasted with chaos energy. But she had broken into Robotnik's lab to take him down BEFORE she had any powerups!!
She's sharp!
This Amy was given a weapon and made a team fighter before she'd been given one in-games. So while she doesn't have a hammer, she has a crossbow and is the team sharpshooter!
She's stylish!
This Amy has. and I say this with joy in my heart. The dykiest wardrobe. She alternates between graphic tees with plaid skirts and graphic sweaters with cargo pants.

Postcanon Girl-Liker Amy REAL!!
Written by lead STC writer Nigel Kitching, the post-canon Exit:Sonic published in the fan-led STCO features postcanon Amy marrying her adventuring partner Tekno. There's a reason their stories are referred to as "Lesbians in space!"

Post Fest Round-Up
The fourth edition of the rare pair fest has come to an end! And with 81 submissions, it's safe to say it's been a wild success!!
With so many fics, it's a bit much to do a masterpost so we've summed up the highlights below!
Pairings:
This year, the fest featured 66 different pairings, the most popular being:

I do appreciate that Riz's relationship to being nicknamed The Ball is such a tenuous thing. Like his moment of claiming it and putting power behind it in the first season finale was good, but it's still something that isn't necessarily a net positive in later seasons. It's something that he defends, but he also has insecurities about it because he never flat out says "I like being The Ball" or "I like that they call me that" or anything like that, he just insists that it's good. And in a way it is! It's something that belongs to him, and like he says, Ragh gave him that nickname and Ragh is his friend now, and the main one who calls him that is Fabian and Fabian is his best friend and almost uses it as a kind of weather vane (a lot about Fabian is a weather vane honestly) and you can gauge a lot about how Fabian feels about any given situation just by the way he intonates "The Ball". And I think all of that is something that lends itself to really complicated feelings and I think that makes a lot more sense than Riz just being like "yeah I like being The Ball, no nuance needed".

Chris G's Top 10 STCO Chuckles!
I've had a lot of fun during my time with STC over the years, and there's certainly been a lot of laugh-out-louds in our stories in between all that epic action!
Humour can be subjective of course, but these are some of my favourites:
Plax for the Memories... (The End of the world - #230)
well yes, of course I'm biased about Bob the Plax, I drew him in his first appearance and my very first story for STC! The plastic alien outcast put such a smile on my face that I couldn’t help but include him as a cameo into my very own script, years later! He's both loveable and terrifying in equal measure, and I hope others find him a fun little background character to have popping up from time to time!
Barking Madness! (Return of the Cybernik - #232) Belinda Barking was my first attempt at working in popular culture references to the comic (for those unfamiliar, she's based on a UK reality TV celeb who was endorsing a popular Electricals store at the time!) I've always enjoyed the print run's ability to work in celeb cameos, so I hope readers got as much of a kick out of seeing the real world reflected in the comic over the years as I did!
Braaaaaaiiiins over Beauty (Chasing Amy #239) I thought this story was a neat little twist on the ever popular Zombie genre, with fun homages that artist @teamsmithy built on from the already excellent script - my favourite line is still "I love you for your braaaaaaiiiins!"
Blacksnap or Bust (Dicing With Death - #240) Everything about this high stakes card game puts a smile on my face - the name, the villain's gimmick, the design of the cards (lots of Easter eggs for long-time boomers - tons of fun researching them when I did the colours!) - even the fact that Tails is unexpectedly good at it - but most of all for the wild facial expressions of the Dice as he actually manages to lose!
Plunders and Cream! (The Tale of Cream the Rabbit - Sonic the Easter Special 2012) I've always admired the team's ability to take the familiar SEGA characters and tweak them a bit to fit our own STC universe, and having Cream's comic debut juxtaposed against the return of one of the series' most recognisable creations was an inspired choice that demonstrates this perfectly!
Big Trouble! (Big Hits the Road - #259) - Big has been one of the best comedic additions to STCO's vast cast - and this story is one of my favourites of all the great work that the various writers and artists have done in developing his character for the series!
Worst day EVER! (The World's Worst Villain - #262) between all the explosions and drama, we don't get many opportunities for quieter character driven pieces - here though, we finally get to see what life is like for the ordinary schoolkids of Mobius - and still find time for some wry humour and a bit of an outsiders’ perspective on the adventures of the cool blue hedgehog!
Here comes the bride! (The Bride of Fabian Vane! - #264) I think getting to write tom-boy Amy into a big fancy dress was too hilarious an opportunity to pass up! For the creation of this story, I actually thought of the title first and the script ideas blossomed from there! I'm really pleased to have found a fun new way to develop this classic character from the print run a little further!
An Unlikely Accomplice (The Bat Who Spied Me! - #265) Rouge is a character I've really enjoyed getting a chance to write, and pairing her up with the most unexpected sidekick in the form of Norris Wimple felt like a great source of comedy to me! Of course, I also loved writing in all the fun nods to the spy genre too! Anyone for a game of 'Sneaky Snake'?
Tikal Power! (Tikal - Girl Wonder! - #267) Tikal has been a great addition to Knuckles supporting cast but she hasn't had much opportunity to take centre stage - until this story that is! This twist on the familiar set up was a hilarious idea that plays up to that, while finally giving her a well deserved chance to shine!

As Sonic Universe Smack-down (or SUS as I like to call it) can't begin until all of the tournaments have found their winners, it will be a bit until it begins, but you can give them a follow to make sure you see when they start
I'm also hosting another tournament, @bestfakesonicshowdown. The goal is to find the best Sonic copycat (think Metal Sonic, Scourge, etc.). If that sounds interesting to you, head on over! Submissions are closing Wednesday night, so get any entries in soon

Fable finds comfort in her half brother, Vane, but there’s someone she needs to see more than anyone else. She sends a text to Fabian, expecting that he won’t want anything to do with her after she heard his blazing argument yesterday with the revelation of their shared parent, but she needs to tell him what has happened.
Surprisingly, Fabian answers almost instantly and agrees to meet her on the beach just outside of their father’s beach house.
She is waiting at the shoreline when Fabian finally arrives, absently drawing patterns in the sand with her foot. Only when she looks down does she realise she has drawn a small stick family, with three happy siblings and two parents. She barely chokes back a sob as she hears Fabian approaching, and turns around to face him.

BIOGRAPHY:
Benjy was born to Davina and Frasier Fenwick in Scotland. Davina’s parents were terrified to learn that their daughter was a witch, they were very religious and saw magic as the devil. Frasier’s parents were both pureblood wizards and very proud of that, so when their son brought home a ‘mudblood’ it was a disappointment. So, both got estranged by their families and basically both muggle and wizarding worlds. But they had each other, and that’s what mattered most to them, so they moved to London, England where Davina got a job as a healer at St.Mungo’s.
Growing up without any siblings or relatives Benjy didn’t have many friends, so when their mom asked if they wanted to spend the day at the hospital with her they were all for it. That’s where they met Fabian Prewett, their mom was one of his healer’s and figured that both of them could use a friend. Soon Benjy was going there regularly to play with him, bringing him new books that they would read together. Fabian soon became their favorite person, they would constantly ask their mom how he was doing and ask about what she was doing to make him better. They were actually pretty good at learning medical terminology and liked watching their mom work, they knew since they were about 7 it’s what they wanted to do as well.
They didn’t like when they would overhear other staff talking about his mom though, calling her a mudblood and refusing to work alongside her. Even some patients sometimes would refuse to be seen by her, not wanting her to even touch them. She never let it affect her though, she always stayed positive and would go home and tell Frasier about what a great day she had. Benjy couldn’t understand why she would do that, why she let people treat her badly and how she could do it with a smile. They started to become angry for her though, after all it didn’t make sense how such a good person deserved to be treated so horribly.
Benjy never cared about whether a toy was meant to be played with by a boy or a girl when they were little. Nor did they care about what section in the store they got their clothes from, as long as they liked it that’s what they wanted to wear. Luckily their parents didn’t care much either, as long as Benjy was happy that’s what mattered to them. So it just felt natural when their parents used they and them when talking about Benjy, since neither he or she seemed to fit.
Honestly, up until the summer when they were getting ready to go to Hogwarts Benjy was a generally happy kid. During a shopping trip in Diagon Alley for school supplies Benjy and their parents ran into Emelia and Alastair Fenwick, their grandparents on their fathers side. It was tense to say the least, the elderly couple had no idea they had a grandchild up until that point. While most people would probably have turned the other way Benjy’s parents weren’t like that, they saw the sad look in the couple’s eyes when they saw what they had missed out on and decided to introduce their child to their paternal grandparents. They even agreed to letting them get to know Benjy and were open to letting them back into their lives after they were so harshly cut out.
One day though they decided to show their true colors. Benjy was having dinner at their house, which seemed like a mansion compared to the apartment he grew up in, when they offered to take him in, permanently. At first they were confused, asking if they meant them and their parents could come live in the house. But when his grandmother told him, “no mudblood could live under my roof, and no mudblood should be raising a Fenwick,” they realized that the couple had no interest in letting their own son and daughter-in-law into their lives. Not only that but his grandfather also had to point out how terrible of a job Benjy’s parents did, saying there was no way he would’ve ever let Benjy think it was ok to insist to go by “they” and that it was ridiculous.
Benjy left and never went back, thankful that their father turned out the way he did despite his parents. While the few weeks they spent getting to know their grandparents were short what they learned stuck with them, purebloods couldn’t be trusted. Sure there were some exceptions, like their father and Fabian, but it would take a lot for them to truly trust one and believe they were a good person. Entering into Hogwarts proved to be a challenge, while some people were very open and obvious about their bloodstatus, (like most Slytherins or those belonging to the sacred 28) other people weren’t. First year proved to be pretty lonely for them since they weren’t sure who they could trust and who would judge them for having a muggleborn mother. After entering into second year with not too many friends though they started letting more people in, slowly even accepting some purebloods who seemed to be of good character, still they keep most of them at a distance, sure that one of these day they’ll turn and show their true colors.
