The fact you think someone who's most recent DNFs were crashing in the last lap through driver error is better than Lewis is hilarous. Not to mention Mercedes are experimenting their tractor on Lewis, like they did in 2022 when everyone also thought Russell was better when he wasn't. Literally as soon as the announcement to Ferrari happened, everyone said knew that Lewis would suddenly be 'struggling' when he was best of the rest last year. Because think about it, it's in Mercedes' interest for Lewis to look washed. He dumped them in a humiliating way, they don't care about anymore.
Just say you don't like him? Or don't understand his value? Signing him is similar to the decision Williams made with switching Sargeant for Albon, harsh but a no-brainer. This is for any team in F1, including Red Bull. Because of one thing - hype. No other driver generates as much hype as him, and that's something that can't be replicated with any other driver. This isn't to say he isn't one of the top drivers talent wise, he is. But as we've seen with Bearman and Sainz, put any driver in a good car and they'll perform well. Ferrari's barrier to the championship is the car, not the drivers. If they have a championship winning car next year, they'd win it with both the current drivers and with next year's drivers. The only difference is that the story will be much bigger with Lewis instead of Carlos. And one more thing, this is the last opportunity for Ferrari to have Lewis in their car. I know there's lots of talk that the veterans should retire, but trust me, Fernando and Lewis are still at the top of the game, and when they're gone they will be greatly missed in F1. Instead of questioning why he's been given someone else's seat you should appreciate him while he's here, appreciate that the legendary names of Ferrari and Hamilton have in fact joined together when for so long most people thought it's impossible. Please do more research because you clearly don't understand F1.
One thing first: I never really made a secret about the fact that I'm not a big fan of Lewis Hamilton, I once wrote that in a post already, but I also always said that he is one of the best drivers ever in F1 history and I respect his accomplisments and performances.
I'm also a bit of a fan of Fernando, so it's not that I just don't speak for the drivers that are a bit older, I actually like the idea of Alonso becoming a champion again, 20 years after his last championship, if he should get a top car next year.
Oliver Bearman did a very good job at the Saudi Arabian GP, but he surely wasn't on the level of Charles and probably Carlos, that's for sure. So that wasn't really a good example. But no one was thinking that he would be as good as both of them, because of the circumstances that it was his first ever race and he has never driven the car before.
Lewis is surely still a good driver, but is he still the same that he was in the 2010 years? I really don't think so. And what reason would Mercedes have to let him be worse than he could be? It would only harm Mercedes, because they would get less points and bad publications in the media. Also it wouldn't make Ferrari or Lewis slower next year.
It's true that Ferrari hasn't the car to win the championship, no one except for Red Bull has it right n ow. But I think no one thinks that they'll drive for the championship this year. So it's still about the performances of the two drivers, which are pretty much very close to each other.
It's just my own opinion and how I see it, for me there are these minimal signs that (at least recently) Carlos would be the better decision. Maybe Charles can prove me wrong, then I'd be the last one not t say that I was wrong and Ferrari did the right thing (especially if Lewis will perform great next year.
The hype about Lewis is actually the only big reason for me to sign Lewis to Ferrari, but as Ferrari, a team that is the most famous, even without signing one of the biggest stars on the grid, that demands from itself to drive for the championship, I don't think it should just be the media hype that decides who will drive for them. And no, I'm still not saying Lewis is a bad driver, I'm just saying he isn't at the same level anymore that he had when he was winning one championship after another.
A thing iI want to let you all know, is that I will deactivate the anonymous questions, because i get many reactions that aren't very friendly or objective/impersonal, and I won't answer such stuff, because I want this to be a friendly discussion about the F1 amongst F1 fans who can also respect the opinions of others and don't feel personally attacked if someone does say something that they don't like to hear about a specific driver or team.

McLaren's 2024 Pumpkin Can't Be a Lemon
Tumblr media
McLaren got the jump on everyone this year by being the first team to officially launch; while not a car, their 2024 livery. While not the most colorful F1 machinery McLaren has ever produced; I find myself missing their beautiful 2020 challenger, the new Papaya and Black scheme leads to a menacing almost Halloween vibe, while still being true to the modern McLaren brand of the Zak Brown Era.
And speaking of the brand, I cannot help but feel this surprise mid-january reveal was down to the fact that all McLaren factory racing efforts this year look to be standardized in terms of livery, and getting that first bit of F1 news out for the new year, and with their new ‘Whatever it takes’ mantra seemed like a no brainer if the cat was already out of the bag with the start of the Formula E season in Mexico a few weeks ago.
And on that new motto, I can’t help but feel this sense of confidence from every move McLaren is making right now. Compared to last year’s funeral of a car launch, where expectations were dashed and heads were hung low, the team feels excited and confident with every move they make.
Despite a slow start last season, 2023 turned into a beautiful year for McLaren, becoming the second fastest team on the grid post-summer break. Lando Norris continued to show brutal speed and consistency across races, and rookie Oscar Piastri showed exactly why he was worth all that fuss in 2022, all while avoid pitfalls we’ve seen other rookies hit in their maiden seasons
Now, after a grueling start and spectacular end to last year’s campaign, the Woking outfit looks to carry that momentum forward to 2024. And they have shiny new toys to try to help, like their brand new wind tunnel, freeing them from using TMG’s excellent, but outdated facility in Cologne. Combine that with new simulators to better help correlation before hitting the track with new upgrades, and McLaren’s new technical team looks to have the right tools to fight at the front.
While a shock Monza win in 2021 broke broke an almost decade long winless streak, and with a few close calls later that season, the 2022 ground effect regulations threw a wrench in the team’s recovery, and big promises came with reinvestment in the team that followed that disappointing first year of the new rules. And while 23 came good in the end, continued growth must be shown, even if the team isn’t immediately challenging for the title this year.
McLaren now needs to deliver, and keep showing that any upward ticks in form aren’t just solely the result of other teams missing their mark. They cannot repeat last year, and they also cannot afford to slid backward throughout the season like Aston Martin did last time out. If any team is to escape the F1 midfield, McLaren needs to not just show they’re ready, but show that they are capable of capitalizing on the new, more equitable F1 landscape.

my opinion on the winners and losers of lewis hamilton to ferrari
winners !!
Lewis Hamilton (gets the dream team, the money, the publicity, the opportunities, he’s always a winner tbh)
Ferrari (gets the 7x world champion, the publicity, a whole new fanbase on top of their already huge one, and a whole lot more)
George Russell (new mercedes main boy, good luck and fortune to him)
losers :(
Mercedes (lost their face, all the crew going w lewis, the fans who were only there for him, probably a lot of money too)
Carlos Sainz (lost his seat at ferrari, future in f1 is a lot more up in the air now poor guy, hopefully there’s some good news for him soon)
tbd …
Charles Leclerc (he seems more than happy w his new teammate but there’s the chance of more media slander, let’s stay positive tho if he’s happy im happy)
this is all just making me more excited for ‘24 and ‘25 and the potential drama lol

people are delusional if they think that lawrence will let go of his own son. don’t try and bring the show “succession” into this bc it has nothing to do with lance and lawrence’s father-son relationship.
we have seen first hand how much lawrence stroll loves his children and would do anything for them. i’m sure if my parents or other people’s parents were as rich as the stroll family, they too would buy you things and get you places you desire.
lance will probably stay with aston until he believes that he’s finished with f1 but i doubt that will happen anytime soon. he will keep racing.
people fail to see this though and assume just because he races poorly at times. like i have said before, lance could finish p20 every race if he felt that good about his seat and not give a shit about f1. but it’s clear lance cares about racing and is trying to improve.
the media and fans will always paint him out as a villain who’s biggest crime is having a father who loves him.

F1 Sources
I’ve been asked a few times about what F1 sources I deem as being reliable and here’s a mostly conclusive list
Some of these are particularly reliable for news about certain teams/drivers, and some are all rounders
Magazines/Media Outlets
- AMuS (Auto Motor und Sport), German Motorsport publication, personally my holy grail. Very good for reports on technical stuff.
- Canal+, reliable particularly for Alpine related stuff
- Sky Sports UK, typically don’t comment on rumours until they’re essentially confirmed but sometimes say the wildest shit with no real bearing
- Sky Italia, reliable about Ferrari
- Autosport
- Motorsport.com
People
- Chris Medland, honestly my favourite journalist, he won’t report on anything until it’s verified. Very handy during race weekends
- Giuliano Duchessa, great technical information and also really good for Ferrari news
- Tobi Grüner, AMuS journalist. Does tech stuff but also paddock news
- Albert Fabrega, credible Spanish journalist. Good technical source, especially for upgrades
- Craig Scarborough, excellent technical source
- Andrew Benson, BBC journalist pretty decent information
- Jolyon Palmer, very good technical information (but be aware he is employed by FOM so some things that he says may be influenced by that)
- Erik van Haren, this one is so-so in my opinion. Usually has very accurate news about Red Bull/Verstappen but also has occasionally been used in the past as a mouthpiece of sorts
Less reliable sources (imo)
- ESPN, a bit of a FOM mouthpiece (compared to other sources)
- Lawrence Barretto, FOM employee typically says/writes what they want
- Will Buxton, FOM employee typically says/writes what they want
- Joe Saward, used to be somewhat reliable but recently talks a lot of nonsense
- The Race, sometimes can have good information (particularly things written by Mark Hughes) but a lot is clickbait nonsense

Every once in a while i think about "I always thought that if I would make it to F1, Charles would also make it" and "It's not a surprise that we're sitting here together" and i have to sit down for a second because what the fuck, Max. Why are you there dropping poetic ass lines like it's nothing. I don't believe in fate or destiny or whatever but honest to god those two make me rethink everything.

Ferraris decision might be wrong
Tumblr media
I know that this won't be very popular amongst some of the fans of Charles Leclerc, but I think Ferraris decision to cut Carlos Sainz from the team and renew Leclercs contract is the wrong one.
Why is it the wrong one?
Because in my opinion, Sainz did the better job over the last years. He was more consistent, made less mistakes and was on the same level as Charles, sometimes even faster. Just think about last year, when Charles often didn't made it to Q3 in the middle of the season, while Sainz most of the time was in Q3. Or the fact that Sainz is the only driver who isn't driving for Red Bull, who won races since the Brazilian Grand Prix 2022. The last win of Leclerc was the Austrian GP 2022, that was in july. Leclerc also often made big mistakes like spinning out or even crashing his car when he was in front or under pressure, something that didn't happen so often for Carlos. The many technical problems at the beginning of his time at Ferrari aren't his fault (probably). So I think it would've been better to keep Carlos Sainz.
Does this mean that I would cut Leclerc instead?
No, definitely not. Because Leclerc is a good and still relatively young driver. I just wouldn't have hired Hamilton.
Why wouldn't I have hired Hamilton?
Because Hamilton is probably in the last years of his career, he isn't the youngest anymore. And if we look at his performances, especially against his teammate, then it was clear over the last season, that Lewis isn't the absolute best driver anymore, because George Russell often was on the same level. If we look at this year, it's looking even worse for Hamilton. Every qualy and race, Hamilton was cleary behind his teammate.
And that's why I think the decision to sign Hamilton and cut Sainz is the wrong decision.
Feel free to post your own thoughts about this, I'd like to see what you guys are thinking about Ferraris decision and if you want, I also like to discuss this without any fanboy or prejudiced things affecting us here.

I saw a post going around calling out race control/marshals for not communicating to the drivers (especially Lance) that George was stopped on track + the delay in calling for VSC.
The timing is certainly interesting, I do think race control could have responded a bit quicker but Lance knew about George's accident well before he approached the turn.
This is Lance approaching the sector where George crashed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note the screen signals a flashing yellow triangle, which is a double waved yellow, so Lance knew well before making the turn that there was imminent hazard and that the hazard was on track. (I'll be honest, the camera on that Aston belongs on an old Nokia, at first I thought it was a solid white flag lmao) This is also when Lance's engineer started saying "Yellow ahead, yellow ahead" - George was stopped in the section after that screen, so no marshals with yellows out at that point. So it's not accurate to say that Lance was surprised by George's car. Still, no VSC.
This is Lance's view after the turn - note the marshals frantically going at it with the double waved yellows signaling "DANGER AHEAD - OBJECT ON TRACK IN NEXT SECTOR" you can see the sector line in front of the marshaling post
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note the side screen which should mirror the marshaling post is still showing a white flag (????) - [I don't think it was flashing or showing a VSC, it looks like a solid white, but I can't tell because the video is too quick and the quality is poor. Also I can't see the VSC message on the steering wheel but feel free to correct me if y'all can make it out.] *EDIT* THE WHITE SCREEN IS NOT A SCREEN AT ALL, THAT WAS MY MISTAKE - It looks to be a sign of some sort
Then, just as Lance is passing by George, a VSC is called.
Tumblr media
( ⬆️VSC screen location for reference)
Tumblr media
(you can see the VSC screen in the distance starting to flash as Lance passes George)
Anyways, here's a good video on what the various panels mean (X) And here's a fab video on electronic marshaling and how it works (X)

the imaginary carlos and charles beef that some fans are convinced is going on is giving Netflix DTS trying to convince us that charles and sebastian were mortal enemies that prayed on each other’s downfall nightly
#can’t people be happy or sad for one driver without tearing the other down#ik teammates are often pitted against each other and stuff but like#they’re both having good seasons#they’re both showing off their strengths#charles is still doing well in the WDC and even tho max is likely to win this year charles is still gonna get more chances with ferrari#and carlos is doing a great job in showing other teams why they should give him a seat next season#regardless of whether u think they’re good friends or just coworkers it’s clear they respect each other a lot#and i get being upset that charles didn’t podium in suzuka#but that’s not carlos’ fault and he did everything that he should’ve#charles still has a phenomenal race and his fans shouldn’t insult carlos simply for racing#and similarly carlos’ fans shouldn’t insult charles for not placing higher than carlos#when charles has shown how good and consistent of a driver he is in the past few races#just because the two latest ferrari wins have been carlos’ doesn’t mean charles is suddenly “overhyped” or “washed up”#like chill y’all#focus on the bigger issues#like whatever the fuck is going on williams#charles leclerc#carlos sainz#cl16#cs55#ferrari#formula 1#f1#1655#c squared#2024 japanese gp#as a maybe month old fan i probably shouldn’t be having many opinions about this#but whatever lmfao#they’re both hot why are we pitting them against each other#they hate when two sexy bitches are winning

Author is writing a think piece, this is an OPINION. Author is not stating facts, merely making some observations, please do not take this as fact. Narrative is in storytelling and sounds confident but it is an opinion. AUTHOR HAS NO INSIDE KNOWLEDGE. THIS IS NOT FACT. If author speculates, it is not on purpose, it is just meant to be a thought piece.
Yeah ok let's talk about Nico Rosberg:
Here's how I view it. One of your best friends from childhood isn't like you. He's black in a sport that doesn't give space to anyone that's not White European, he doesn't come from money, he's in fact struggling to even travel to competitions, and he's good.
He's so good that you and your world champion father are so sure he will be in F1. You get there first but that next season he's in McLaren and he's second.
Then he's first.
You're thrilled for him. He's your best friend. He's talking about how he wants to change the world, and even then you know he doesn't just mean racing, he means the world.
Then in 2013, you're together. Michael Schumacher is gone, and you're first driver and you know Lewis and you could change the world. Sebastian wins, again, but the future feels bright.
In 2014, the car is competitive. No, it's a winner. You know you're capable, it's in your blood. You know Lewis is capable, he's done it before.
Then, Jules crashes. Everyone holds each other a little tighter. Lewis wins, but there is less jealousy and more knowing that it can be done.
Then, Lewis wins again. The team orders are killing you. You know you're capable, but Lewis is better. That's what everyone tells you. He's better, he's faster, and this boy that you have known your whole career, this man who is your closest friend, is also the scale by which you are measured.
And you snap. You have to win. It is in your blood. 2016 is vicious. The world watches as you both throw hats and towels and words in different tongues. Lewis doesn't back down, but in the end, it is not enough.
You win. And then you walk away. You have the title, have lost the friendship, and you have changed.
"we're not friends" is the quote that follows you for years. He runs away when you go for an interview. He doesn't say your name. You don't either.
"Are you a better driver than you were in 2016?" "yes. and teammate." Live and in stereo right in your face.
Something changes after that. You live in the same building, and you sometimes ride the elevator together, but the awkwardness is not there, not like it was. He is kind to your children, the ones who would have called him Uncle Lewis. He sends them Christmas gifts.
You heal your heart and your friendship. You see that even at 40 and seven world championships, the boy you knew still has to prove himself. He still fights every day to change the world. Except now that he's got the platform, people are far harsher than they used to be. Every initiative is met with backlash, every comment taken out of context.
So you resolve to talk about him. You talk about his skill and his talent. You talk about how Ferrari is lucky, how Lewis had always wanted to wear red, who didn't? You talk about how he still drives like he's hungry, hunting, and you don't stop.
Because more than anything, you remember that little kid who no one talked to because he didn't look like everyone else. And the people with the same platform as you still continue to try and isolate him, bring him down, halt change in its footsteps.
Lewis wants to change the world. So do you. You have looked at the environment, the women who want to race, and children like Lewis who had to fight to get anywhere. So you talk and you talk and you talk, because advocacy can be subtle, it can be through talking about how someone is so talented, how they deserve everything they have. It can be about how age doesn't preclude you from talent. It can be about how women in sport are going to be the future. You say it out loud, because you can.
Love is a difficult master, but it is with you always. You love the sport, you love your family, you love your friends and the things you have done together.
Wouldn't you rise to the defense of someone you love and respect?
Author is writing a think piece, this is an OPINION. Author is not stating facts, merely making some observations, please do not take this as fact. Narrative is in storytelling and sounds confident but it is an opinion. AUTHOR HAS NO INSIDE KNOWLEDGE. THIS IS NOT FACT. If author speculates, it is not on purpose, it is just meant to be a thought piece.
