Sense8 seems like a show where the plot mostly Doesn't Matter except as a vehicle for the characters to do something fun/cool/melodramatic. And with most of the plotlines that got dropped because of the cancellation, it's easy enough to infer roughly where they were going that it doesn't really feel like you missed out on that much. the helicopter crash was mentioned in ocelot's bio in the official mission handbook but the part I got wrong was that it caused him to develop ptsd. someone sent me an ask to say that they also remembered reading that at some point so it's come from somewhere... it was probably an old forum post or something that's been cited as a #truefact

okay i was reading ava's bio on pinterest and "forced to join s.h.i.e.l.d under fury after an incident to avoid lock-up" ... im curious about that! what was the incident?

so ava’s early plotline is based around three ‘incidents’, as she likes to call them. others may call them ‘total disasters’ or ‘criminal acts’. ava calls them ‘incidents’.

the incident that lands her in s.h.i.e.l.d under fury’s watch is the second of the three. it’s post her leaving xavier’s school, which she ended up at seeking refuge after the first incident.

the second revolves around the very-public (ab)use of her powers in which multiple police and vehicles (including police cars and a helicopter). lemme preface that this part of situation was very much inspired by the movie chronicle (2012). here’s a quick recap of it.

the actual situation started from ava trying to help a young mutant, who’s powers recently developed and included a physical mutation, facing a small group of anti-mutant protesters; it hits home with her (and ties to her first incident). she tries to keep it civil, telling the younger mutant to find their way to xavier’s school or the brotherhood but one of the protesters gets in their faces screaming mutant slurs. in dealing with these protesters, and with her emotions around recently leaving xavier’s, she blows up a bit. the protesters get injured. cops get called to the scene and blow things out of proportion when they find out it’s a ‘mutant situation’; hence the amount of cops that showed up and the eventual helicopters, one of which is a news-copter filming it unfold. all of the cops and the remaining protesters drive up her emotions to the point where she’s completely pissed and thus: exploding cars, helicopters thrown to the ground, bullets whipped back at cops. total chaos. magneto would be proud. xavier is …. not that.

anyway, ava runs away in the middle of the chaos having already told the younger to run before it all went down, but as we all know, it’s not so easy to hide from s.h.i.e.l.d, fury especially. he sees use for her, and would prefer to have ‘that kind of power of their (s.h.i.e.l.d’s) side’. he offers her the choice between the job, under his watchful eye, or sending her off to the raft. (note: i dont think he’d actually send her to raft but it’s a good gambling chip and there are actual government officials who do want her locked up). ava takes the job, especially since she thinks xavier won’t take her back in (and she doesn’t necessarily want to go back to the school) and magneto might not come get her out. s.h.i.e.l.d wasn’t initially anything on her radar, but she figures it’s better than being locked up. (this also leads into why she’s so upset about ending up in raft post-cw.)

so not necessarily ‘forced’ into working at s.h.i.e.l.d but her options were limited and joining s.h.i.e.l.d leads into her third ‘incident’.
