Game night last night - Ma-Ha decided that since we have to go to Malfeas, he’s at least taking the precaution of not sending us in our entirety. We had a montage of Tenya learning to divide himself into little Tenya-chunks.
So we’re going with the two Ess3-4 students, one Ess4 version of Tenya (who’s still tanky as hell), and an Ess2 Ma-Ha to supervise and be our sacrificial lamb if need be (Tenya has been reminded, repeatedly, to please not die for Ess2 Fragment, no matter how much it looks like Ma-Ha, and nevermind that Tenya’s also sending a fragment of himself - it’s a much larger fragment and would take longer to recover).
There was some friction right out the gate as Tenya had to acclimate to the consequences of Ma-Ha’s much lower stats (”no, Tenya, your - gag - cooking is - heave- wonderful!”), but they seemed to have ironed it out over the four days it took to get to the Malfeas gate...
And then a mortal was camping right near where the gate was set to open, Tenya jogged up to tell him to clear out - “Bad work afoot tonight” - and they both got caught in the portal opening.
So Tenya spent the next five days trying to console the mortal as he died, and Ma-Ha spend the next five days frantically dragging the rest of the party in Tenya’s wake since they couldn’t reach each other.
It was a shitshow and people are a bit traumatized even before getting to Actual Hell 😅

I got to share this Water Tables lesson with 750 students from ten different schools around Central Oregon as the Artist in Schools Coordinator at Bend Art Center. Even more classes got to come to the art center to participate in this program.
Some of my favorite parts of this lesson were the integration of science and art, having discussions about very real and relevant issues, exposing kids to a variety of artwork, and giving them a chance to make their own.
Below is a description of this program. The exhibit was organized by Pat Clark, the founder of Bend Art Center.

Water Tables School Program
Learn about local hydrology! Bend Art Center’s 90-minute art and science-based program starts with a tour of our fall “Water Tables” exhibit. Through the art, we’ll explore hydrology and how our local groundwater is replenished and depleted. We’ll continue to develop our understanding of water tables in the studio with a specially-designed printmaking project. Kids will use inking and rubbing techniques and a variety of mixed media to create a visual cross-section of our landscape and the water table.
Bring your students to Bend Art Center during our “Water Table” exhibit, or request this program in your classroom anytime this school year!

Lesson Plan
Lesson Plan: World in motion
Grade level: 9th
State standards and objectives: The students will learn, demonstrate and correlate where the sun, moon, and earth are positioned and the movements they are making/going.
HS-ESS2-4 Earths systems/earth and space science & 3. D build knowledge by actively exploring real-world issues and problems, developing ideas and theories and pursuing answers and solutions.
 Materials needed: Teacher computer with internet access and projector ● Plastic spoons ● Oreo cookies ● Black Sharpie pens and colored magic markers ● Construction paper ● Paper towels
Time: 40-50 minutes
Prior knowledge activation: Teacher will introduce a YouTube video that will quickly discuss the patterns of the moon and earth. Here is the video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTDcfI2dabk. During the video the students will activate prior knowledge by writing down five facts they have learned or knew.
Discussion: After the students have written down the facts they learned or knew then the teacher will ask each student to share one fact they knew and one fact they didn’t know. The teacher will then ask the students three questions that the video answered.  1) How many days does it take for the moon to orbit Earth? (​28 days​) 2) How many days does it take Earth to orbit the sun? (​365 ¼ days​) 3) How many hours does it take for Earth to complete one rotation on its axis? (​24 hours​).
Teacher demonstration: The teacher will now draw out the pattern of the earth, moon, and sun out on the Smartboard or chalkboard and show the rotational patterns and movements using arrows and drawings.
Student application: The students will now apply that patterns and movement to a role play classroom activity. The students will clear and push all of the desks into the walls and make as much room in the middle of the classroom as possible. The students will break off into 3-4-person groups and create their own moon, earth, and sun movements using their own body’s. One student will be the sun, one will be the moon, and one will be the earth. If there is a 4th person, then that student will show the rotation of which the moon and sun are moving around the earth. Each student will switch to each position until every student has been in each place.
Student activity: The students will then move the desks back to the original set up and be in groups of 3-4 again but this time the groups will just be the students around each other. The teacher will then hand out a bag that has Oreo cookies, a plastic spoon, black marker, and a piece of construction paper. The students will draw the sun and earth on the construction paper and then use the Oreos to show the moon orbiting around the earth.
Student reflection: The students will write out a one paragraph summary on what they learned today and how the applied it to the activity’s and turn it into the teacher as they leave class. As the students are leaving explain to them that tomorrow we will briefly go over what we learned today and build off this lesson to start a new lesson over the other planets in our solar system.
                This lesson plan was a creative and engaging lesson that could be implemented in an 8-9th grade science class. I based my lesson plan model off ASSURE but added my own little quarks to it. I started this lesson plan out by using technology and showing an educational video to the class about how the sun, moon, and earth are aligned and how they move around in space.  The students then had to write down facts about what they already knew and what they learned. This quick video and fact writing activated prior knowledge for the students. Next, I demonstrated the positional status and movements of the planets on the Smartboard showing which way the moon orbited and how it was aligned. After it was modeled for them, I wanted the students to role play and show me that they can do it themselves, so the students broke off into small groups and positioned themselves of how the moon orbits the earth and sun. Now that they have showed that they can model it, I handed out bags full of Oreos, markers and construction paper. The students will draw the sun and earth and position the Oreos orbiting the earth on the construction paper. Lastly the students will write a summary paragraph over what they learned and how they applied it in the activities today. The content standard and ISTE standard collide because it has the students work together and create their own solar system. This lesson plan uses SAMR technology model plan because I used a video to show and explain how the moon orbits in our solar system. As for the universal design for this lesson plan, it uses all three parts in it. The technology representation was the video I showed to activate and build prior knowledge. When the students created there Oreo representation of the moon orbiting the earth that demonstrated the expression portion. Lastly, engagement was incorporated when the students moved all the desks and created a human moon, sun and earth representation.
