'Try and explain the motivations or internal psychology of recent Marvel Cinematic Universe villains. If one engages in this exercise, one will be quickly disappointed to see that many of these foes have no real relevance to the world audiences inhabit. Dar-Benn from The Marvels, for instance, was justifiably mad about what happened to her planet and her response to that trauma was to suck up the sun(?). Kang in Quantumania was so vaguely defined that it was impossible to get a read on the character. Kro in Eternals, meanwhile, was such a throwaway baddie that even MCU diehards likely forgot he existed! Compare such subpar adversaries to Kevin "Kilgrave" Thompson (David Tennant), the villain of the first season of Jessica Jones.
A man with the ability to control minds, Thompson kept detective Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) under his control for months on end. As a result of this experience, Jones struggles with PTSD and has withdrawn herself from the world. Throughout the first season of Jessica Jones, Kilgrave proves a terrifying foe and one who, despite carrying such heightened superpowers, perfectly embodies several terrifying elements of reality, such as male privilege. Kilgrave’s inability to see other people as human or even consider the humanity of those he controls is a stylized depiction of how often men in Western societies similarly refuse to gaze into the point-of-views of marginalized genders. His superpowers may have been rooted in comic books, but Kilgrave was decidedly a villain ripped from the real world. This is just one of many fascinating attributes of the character that make Kilgrave somebody who needs to return to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe pronto.
Kilgrave Deserves to Be One of the Netflix Elements Brought to the Marvel Disney+ Shows
As Marvel Studios fleshes out its multimedia plans for the rest of the 2020s, it’s clear many elements of the Marvel/Netflix shows from 2015-2019 will be incorporated into the broader universe. When programs like Daredevil and Luke Cage were running, there was a bit of a divide between these shows and the larger movies. Characters on these Netflix entities would occasionally reference Captain America or Iron Man, but the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies never acknowledged these characters in return. Starting with Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home, though, certain actors and figures from the Netflix shows have been carried over into the bigger Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. It’s still unclear (though presumably unlikely) if the narratives of the Marvel/Netflix shows are still canon, but folks like Charlie Cox’s Daredevil are now fixtures of modern MCU media.
While that doesn’t mean Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be focusing exclusively on Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) and Willis Stryker/Diamondback (Erik LaRay Harvey), it does mean a bevy of Marvel/Netflix characters are now at the disposal of future Marvel Studios programs. Kilgrave would be a fantastic character to incorporate into these forthcoming projects, especially since his presence as a more grounded figure would fit in with some of Marvel’s upcoming TV ambitions. Projects like Echo and Daredevil: Born Again are being marketed as adult-skewing programs that aren’t afraid to engage in thornier, more challenging material. Kilgrave, a man who commits murder and rape rather than pursue nebulously defined cosmic MacGuffin’s, would be a perfect villain to fit into this narrative landscape.
Plus, Kilgrave isn’t somebody who’s been seen in tons of other media beyond the comics. While he's shown up in a pair of video games and occasionally appeared in animated TV shows like The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Kilgrave has largely been restricted to the comics and his appearances across the three seasons of Jessica Jones. This isn’t a character like The Joker that’s been done to death in pop culture, there’s lots of new territory one could explore when it comes to Kilgrave. This could even include giving him his purple skin from the comics, a trait Jessica Jones hinted at with his default purple suits, but never went all-in on. That visual detail encapsulates how much there is still to do with Kilgrave.
It doesn’t hurt that Kilgrave is played by a beloved actor like David Tennant, whose fanbase only seems to grow as the years progress with his roles in post-Jessica Jones programs like Good Omens. Tennant is always a welcome presence in any capacity and getting him back for further MCU projects as one of his most famous and chilling characters would be an exciting development. It’s not like Tennant was a “nobody” before Jessica Jones (he had Broadchurch and Doctor Who, after all!) but he’s only become even more prominent since that Netflix show wrapped up its run. That uptick in notoriety has included a string of notable voice-over roles in Disney projects like Ducktales and Ahsoka, a sign that the parent company of Marvel Studios is keen on a good relationship with this performer. These qualities tied into the esteemed career of David Tennant would surely be another incentive to get Kilgrave back into the MCU picture.
David Tennant's Kilgrave Would Give the MCU a Tangibly Terrifying Villain Again
The most important facet of bringing Kilgrave into the MCU, though, would be finally bringing back tangibly terrifying villains back into this sprawling saga. Recent MCU titles haven’t been entirely devoid of solid baddies (The High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was an enjoyably over-the-top creation) but too many modern foes in this franchise leave something to be desired. Dar-Benn, Kang, Gorr the God Butcher, Kro; they’re all too removed from anything resembling discernible reality. While Thanos proved truly haunting because he was a big purple alien who acted like a weary human being, few recent cosmic MCU baddies have registered as remotely in touch with the real world.
Kilgrave would solve that problem and then some. This figure was truly terrifying in his nonchalant evil, while his ability to manipulate the minds of seemingly anyone Jessica Jones encountered provided a vivid visual metaphor for how omnipresent toxic men are in American society. They’re everywhere, even when they’re not physically in the room! Embracing such a terrifying baddie rooted in heavy real-world material (like the sexual trauma he inflicted on Jessica Jones) didn’t weigh down Jessica Jones as a show but rather gave it extra gravitas. That’s not the kind of praise one could offer recent MCU baddies obsessed with convoluted cosmic justice. David Tennant is always a welcome sight in any piece of pop culture, but him returning as Kilgrave would be especially helpful for the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.'

First Loki Season 2 Trailer Reveals Evil Kang (Description)
It's been over a year since Tom Hiddleston's Loki wrapped up its first season but the God of Mischief certainly left an impression. It didn't take long until Marvel Studios gave the green light for Loki season 2.
Early on in development, Hiddleston confirmed that the whole cast would be returning. This was seemingly confirmed after Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie and Owen Wilson's Mobius were both spotted on set. Fan favorite character Miss Minutes is also expected to appear as is Jonathon Majors' Kang.
These won't be the only characters showing up for Loki's second season with new cast members and new footage revealed at Marvel's D23 panel.
New Loki Season 2 Footage Revealed
The Marvel Studios panel at D23 showed some exclusive footage of Loki season 2 to attendees.
According to descriptions of the footage via Popverse, Loki is seen being ripped through time, saying “I’ve seen terrible, awful things”.
Hiddleston's character also sees a wall covered in Kang decorations before saying the line "war is on its way." The main cast is seen in space suits and tuxedos.
Matt Ramos revealed that Loki Season 2 shows the character "trying to warn everyone about the coming war with Kang".
Insider correspondent, Kirsten Acuna, added the footage had a "creepy vibe" and that Loki is seen unveiling Kang's face behind a wall in the TVA.
Further information about that scene was revealed by New Rockstars' Erik Voss, who said:
"There's also a shot where Loki chisels away a mural of the Time Keepers to reveal a wall of giant golden Kang variant faces."
It was also revealed at the panel that Indiana Jones and Everything Everywhere All At Once star Ke Huy Quan will be joining the cast of Loki for season 2.

2017 Full Sail Hall of Fame ceremony — VoicePlay live performance & peeks behind the scenes
After they filmed several music videos at the REBL HQ studio on the Full Sail campus over the previous year, VoicePlay were invited to open the university's annual alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Eli documented parts of the day in real time, livestreaming on VoicePlay's Facebook page. This first one is the guys and some of their spouses being escorted to their seats in preparation for singing the national anthem.
.
youtube
The whole ceremony is almost three hours long, but our guys got their job done in the first few minutes.
Details:
title: U.S. national anthem (Full Sail University's 8th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony)
original song: The Star-Spangled Banner
written by: lyrics from the poem "Defence of Fort M'Henry" by Francis Scott Key; sung to the tune of "The Anacreontic Song" by John Stafford Smith
arranged by: VoicePlay
performance date: 16 February 2017
My favorite bits:
Eli starting off solo, then everyone gradually layering in
passing the lead around
the unusual harmonies on ♫ "perilous fight" ♫
Layne, Eli, and Erik's lovely unison for ♫ "were so galantly streaming" ♫
putting a little decoration on ♫ "bursting in ai-ai-aaair" ♫
upward modulation leading into another cool chord progression
Earl's big old belt on ♫ "braaave" ♫ followed by the other guys traveling up to resolve with him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
VoicePlay had done a number of collaborations involving Full Sail over the previous year, primarily through their REBL HQ video production studio, including their 1-Minute Musicals series, "My Shot" from Hamilton, and a trio of audio production tips.
J.None (their other rotating baritone at the time) had performed "America the Beautiful" for the opening of the 2015 Hall of Fame event. He was a recent graduate, and had just competed on American Idol.
.
The robot presentation Eli mentioned in the first FB livestream happened later in the evening, so he provided a peek into the designer's intro and the performance itself, complete with immersive light effects, dancers, and wire work.
[NOTE: The second video includes some flashing light effects, particularly starting at ~6:00]
.

The guys were excited to meet legendary recording engineer Bruce Swedien, whose work with Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson earned him multiple Grammy awards, and who had been presented with the school's Industry Icon Award during the previous year's Hall of Fame week.

Erik Huey Visits Coals Mines for New Album 'Appalachian Gothic'
Tumblr media
Erik Huey, aka Cletus McCoy, co-founder of The Surreal McCoys, is releasing his debut solo album, Appalachian Gothic, on January 20, 2023 via Appalachian AF/CEN/The Orchard. While the McCoys were a cowpunk, outlaw country outfit known for their originals and creative mashups such "Whole Lotta Folsom," Huey dug closer to home for the songs and stories on his debut, mining his own history — he's descended from four generations of West Virginia coal miners — for the album. "Eric "Roscoe" Ambel (producer/guitarist) and I wrote "The Devil Is Here In These Hills" for what we thought might grow into 2-3 songs that could be used in a soundtrack — a future TV series based on historian James Greene’s incredible book about the West Virginia Coal Mine Wars called The Devil is Here in These Hills," Huey says. "As soon as Eric played the opening riff on his Dulcitar, it was like a doorway opened that revealed the entire album. "My father, grandfather and great grandfather (who came over from Ireland) were all coal miners in the Monongahela Valley and I wrote this song before I’d even finished that book," Huey says. "So many immigrants from Ireland, Scotland, Italy and Eastern Europe—along with African-Americans from The South—came to mine coal in Appalachia, and this song is an attempt to tell their story and the story of the generations that followed in their footsteps." On his first solo album, Huey takes a nostalgic deep dive into the Appalachia of his WV youth while wrestling with the contemporary realities of a hardscrabble region that’s been left behind in many ways. While Appalachian Gothic explores darker themes and raw subject matter such as the legacy of coal mining and the ravages of the opioid crisis on songs like “The Devil is Here in These Hills,” “Dear Dad," “The Appalachian Blues,” and “The Battle of Uniontown,” it also taps into a defiant streak of optimism on twangy upbeat rockers like “Winona” and the pro-union anthem “Yours in the Struggle.” Huey mines the Classic Country seam of the '60s and '70s on the rollicking “You Can’t Drink All Day” and the torchlit two-stepper “That’s What Jukeboxes Are For,” a duet with alt-country chanteuse Laura Cantrell, then roams into Spaghetti Western territory on the eerie “Death County.” He taps into his inner punk rocker on the swampy and lustful “Lucy”—songs he co-wrote with Ambel (the pair cowrote roughly half the songs on the LP). In a similar vein, Erik’s chugging cover of John Cooper Clarke’s “A Heart Disease Called Love” nods to The Ramones and is highlighted by the jump-blues baritone saxophone of Steve Berlin (Los Lobos). Appalachian Gothic was recorded at Cowboy Technical Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and produced by rock 'n' roots guitarist Ambel (Bottle Rockets, Jimbo Mathus, Yayhoos, Sarah Borges). Along with Eric Ambel on guitar, musicians include Jeremy Chatzky on bass and Kenny Soule on drums, with additional appearances by Keith Christopher (bass), Andy York (guitar), Neil Thomas (accordion), Cody Nilsen (pedal steel), and drummer Phil Cimino. Guests include Steve Berlin and Laura Cantrell. Coming of age during the early years of punk rock, Huey got into music via on-ramp of The Blasters, X, Jason & The Scorchers, The Beat Farmers, and Mojo Nixon, then wandered upstream along the Hillbilly Highway until he unearthed a couple of old cassettes by Johnny Cash and George Jones — artists he’d first heard as a kid riding along in the cab of his Uncle Jack’s 18-wheeler. Hearing these artists pulled him back to his musical roots. “This record is a love letter to Appalachia,” he says. “Like so many West Virginians, I had to eventually leave the place where I grew up. As the locals say, I had to ‘get out to get ahead,’ which created a lasting sense of exile. So this album is a homecoming of sorts. It’s a realization that although I spent my life tunneling out, those rugged hills kept calling me home.” Read the full article

Studio Influence: The Horrors of Old
Jack Gatta ~ Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932)
The film Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932) is an old school horror film about Dr. Mirakle and his pet ape Erik committing murders with the blood of Erik. It has the tropes of old and is very much a B movie. Universal at this time was constricted, like the other studios, by censorship. Ever since the Production Code was implemented in 1934, it prevented hardcore gore and violence from occurring in films on screen. This is why we see Erik kill Dr. Mirakle near the end of the film through a shadow on the wall. The interesting part of this is that the Production Code also prevented the depiction of animal cruelty. At the end of the film, Pierre Dupin (the investigator) faces off with Erik, whom he promptly shoots on a rooftop. Whether or not this bypassed the Production Code because Erik is an antagonist is hard to tell, but it’s an interesting boundary break, nonetheless.
Universal was known as one of the mini-major studios that were primarily known for distribution and smaller budgets. This film, as mentioned, earns the status of being a B movie. This is not necessarily a bad thing since it’s the identity of the film. It isn’t an epic by any means. Indiana Jones is inspired by the Adventure B serials of the 30’s and takes direct inspiration. The murder-mystery aspects of this film along with others are still being used today. For example, look at something like Knives Out (2019). This studio was able to put together something that was impressive for the time, however, and that was Erik. There were shots of a real ape reacting and expressing normal body language but there was also a costume someone wore for the scenes with more specific action in mind. Such as climbing a building. The budget of this film is equivalent to about $4 million today after inflation. So being able to film in so many locations and have an authentic costume to use was a win for this film. Just because a film is considered a “B” film, doesn’t mean it has to not innovate or do incredible things on a small budget. Overall, this film was impressive for the time and has the foundation of many murder mysteries we continue to see. Despite the studio being a mini-major with smaller-budget films, it still pulled through and told a successful story.

'It’s probably for the best that the release of Dune Part 2 has been pushed back until March of next year. I mean, if you had a major blockbuster like that starring Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet would you want it to premiere without stars doing publicity? The move also means Barbie will likely dominate the crafts with less competition from friendly fire. That is, with the exception of Visual Effects, which might have been Dune 2’s to lose. The thing is, though, Oppenheimer’s visual effects will likely win, considering they’re practical and astonishing...
There is nothing wrong with CGI, particularly, but come on. Practical effects for the win. The voters must be made aware of how exceptional the work is — they can’t just lazy-vote this category on the basis of “that looks neat!” They have to be TOLD what a big deal all of this is. If the Oscar team do that, Oppie should sail through this category for the win...
Barbie’s success is remarkable, as is Oppenheimer’s. But did you ever think Sound of Freedom would top Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny?...
Killers of the Flower Moon is very much a film that sits in exactly the right place for the modern-day Left – it confirms how vicious and malicious so many white people were to Native Americans in this country as recently as 100 years ago. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer pushes back somewhat against the kind of authoritarianism we see on the rise — thought policing, censorship, expanded political powers, and witch-hunt-like paranoia. It isn’t that it’s only on the Left, it’s just that the Left has all of the power and they’re using it to their full advantage, which has choked the life out of art...
Having film critics and Oscar voters measure success only works if they aren’t insulated from the rest of life on the outside, which is where we find ourselves today.
On the other hand, there stands Barbenheimer to prove me wrong. Two films that popped unexpectedly and created a cultural phenoms unto themselves that everyone felt excited about participating in. Just in time for the crippling strike.

Erik Jones Petty Gms 2022 shirt

So far Erik Jones Petty Gms 2022 shirt . the Disney+ side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has explored sitcoms, the Sacred Timeline, Egypt, and Pakistan, among other places. Now, audiences are being ushered into the courtroom with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, starring Tatiana Maslany as the titular lawyer-turned-hero. From the get-go, She-Hulk has been advertised by many on Marvel Studios' behalf as its first 30-minute legal comedy, creating a new genre for the already well-established franchise. Classic Men's She-Hulk herself is also set to eventually make the transition to the big screen alongside other Disney+ stars such as Ms Erik Jones Petty Gms 2022 shirt . Marvel and Moon Knight, and one can only wonder how and if her show will create that jumping-off point. But, for now, the super-powered lawyer has time to shine on Disney+, and shine she does. With a vibrantly eccentric cast, an eyebrow-quirking plot, and solid MCU roots to accompany it, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has officially declared that court is in session. Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany steps into the role of Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk, a woman whose life is turned upside down after being exposed to her cousin's gamma-infused blood. That cousin is none other than Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, who has been the MCU's green machine for over a decade. Nonetheless, Maslany herself radiates as the headstrong, relatable Jennifer Walters, a woman whose life goes from normal to anything but in the MCU. Maslany is enticingly witty in the role of She-Hulk, playing the dual role of the modern-day woman and superhero lawyer in an extremely comedic fashion. From taking on the world to online dating to representing the man who tried to kill her cousin back in 2008, comic book fans and She-Hulk newbies alike will be rooting for Maslany every step of the way.
