And my ZoLaw heart. Kid’s turn next week. Then back to Zoro (or maybe Zoro, Kid, Zoro). He’s such a tramp, but so desirable, it’s not surprising. Plus, not really. He’s loyal in his own way.

I cut and slowed down this particular moment by about 20% from Ep 1025 because its so incredible to look at
Here we can see around (roughly) 4-5 frames of Marco anticipating the dive, where he positions his body into a head first situation with the perspective, all frames I think the first three four frames of him moving are running on 2s as part of the pre action and then the awesome wingbeat frames are two separated drawings on 1s
Here they are the sexy wingbeat frames:
Poor quality bc thats what happens when you muck around with timing a gif but you get the jist
Just look at the initial down pose its so powerful as a stand-alone, the shape of his wings and the way they have that V shape fucking poetic, his main body has yet to move which is what gives the powerup feel which is then further supported by the high contrast frames after
See second frame of the stark black and the gold spark, I thought the black bg only had the gold but theres one frame with the blue follow through fire of Marcos wings phasing out dramatically - not phasing out where hes cancelling his power but its a visual trick esp the shape of the blue fire is very hard and sharp looking, it leads the eyes because the golden sparkle of Marco himself comes through on all 1s and holy fucking shit it works
I didn’t add it here as its own cut so have the gif again:
But notice how the golden sparkles on the black bg part tilts towards the lower right corner of the frame?
Looks like huge wings banking during flight and its rly cool how Ota animated the effects like this bc it then cuts into a close up of Marco flying toward and past the camera and theres this delicious tilt back towards the left bottom corner like a rocking motion Idk how to explain it
But it sells the fact that hes riding the wind whilst controlling all of this insane power which he is hes gearing up to land a heavy blow to an enemy character, I just think the way the gold wingspan tilts to the right and then Marco cuts back in with his blue gold purple aesthetic and tilts back to the left visually it rocks it rocks my goddamn little socks off
Especially bc the injtial frames of Marco coming out of the sparkle effect is clean as hell then he blurs up its jsut hfnbngngg good animation really fucking good stuff
Praise Akihiro Ota for this sequence, dudes out there doing Gods work for Marco fans

What is the True Date of HTTYD? (DreamWorks Dragons)
So I know that there have been several people who’ve already discussed this topic, like, eons ago, such as @dyannehs , @kingofthewilderwest , and @avannak , @yv-sketches , @arduennas and others. (Here are their posts here, here, aaaaand here.) Buuut I’m gonna do my own, because this is too interesting of a topic not to dive into and blowing it way out of proportion like one of Toothless’s plasma blasts. LOL XD
Sorry to those who are wanting this old topic to just DIE already, and be water under the bridge and into the sea by now. But I need to scratch this itch. LOL XD
Please keep in mind that this article will be discussing the current timeline of HTTYD, not Hiccup’s birth.
So the general consensus is that Hiccup was born around 995 AD, though there have been those advocating for a later period in favor of the dragons leaving Berk by 1060-1100 AD (which was technically the medium range of when the Viking Age ended, supposedly). This would mean that by HTTYD 1 would be around 1010 AD, which we see in a HTTYD short here:
However, some would argue that this is based on the date that HTTYD 1 was in theaters and not a true date. By the end of HTTYD 3, it’d be 1025 AD, so meh. Of course, since most people don’t accept that film as canon, then we can skip that little tidbit. The year 1060 would be when Hiccup is 65 years old, if we accept this as a canon date. Which would fit.
Btw, for your information, here’s a fun fact for ya!
If Hiccup lived to 1100 AD, he’d be 105 years old!!! WOW!!! He’d be ANCIENT!!! O_O
Of course, since the Archipelago is isolated from the outside world (aside from what traders give them), there are those who’d argue that the population would continue on in their Viking ways, and the Viking Age would never truly end. Just with dragons.
But that’s them. We’re talking about the end of the conventional, historical Viking Age — the world isn’t going to know about a population of Vikings that live on a half-frozen and isolated archipelago, so this doesn’t count! XD
So for those of you who don’t accept this time period, I’ll give you a pretty neat alternative. ^_^
In Season... 5, I guess in RTTE? In episode 1, we see this scene where Johann tells them an interesting story I never thought would be mentioned.
(This was a veeeery old pin I posted on Pinterest.)
I checked it out, and it turns out this happened during 811 AD. This means that this date could be anywhere from then to 830 AD. Which, if you look at the due dates of the How To Train Your Dragon book in the Books, it sorta fits.
Regardless if you support the “Traitor Johann Arc” or not, the fact remains that we don’t know how recent this story is, or if this was an old story that he picked up that was decades ago. So the current HTTYD date could be anywhere from 811-850 AD, roughly. (Or it could be 1015 AD, LOL XD)
Again, though, in the film, Hiccup states that Vikings have been killing dragons for “300 years”. While this is more or less in a fantasy-like setting, the Viking characters themselves are quasi-historical, so it’s unlikely that the 800s AD would make sense if it’s been 300 years, since it’s around the time of the end of the Viking Age, in the 1000s AD. That being said, though, this could easily be whatever you wish to be since this is a fantasy setting, and since this the Archipelago, the Viking Age could’ve lasted much longer than their European kin due to their isolation. Could’ve started SOONER for them as well, such as anywhere from 500-700 AD. And it could’ve ended much LATER as of 1200 AD.
We’ll never know. So that’ll be left up to us fans.
For those of you who want a date from the BOOKS, well, I’ll do that for ya! ^_^
The latest date on the book that Hiccup uses is 866 AD. Of course, since we don’t know when it was since this book was last rented, the current date could be anywhere from 866 AD to 1000 AD.
But for those of you who are strong advocates of the “Dragons Leave Vikings at End of Viking Age” Camp, deducting the correct numbers, the current date of the first HTTYD book that Hiccup is in right now would be... anywhere between 995 AD (if deducted from 1060 AD) and 1035 AD (if deducted from 1100 AD), since Hiccup was 10 years old in the first book, and was 75/76 years old by the series’ epilogue. That’s assuming that he died around the time period of the Viking Age’s decline, which was 1060-1100 AD.
So are you for the Film Timeline, the RTTE Timeline, or the Books Timeline? Or do you have your own timeline you follow?
Thank you for reading, my fellow Furians. I hope you enjoyed reading something old and redundant. See you in the next article!
Long Live the Night!

Shinichi's Perfect Rival?
spoilers for Chapters 350-354 (Episodes 266-268), and very minor spoilers for Chapters 981-983 (Episodes 885-886) and 1039-1042 (Episodes 1024-1025)
There are many potential rivals to Kudo Shinichi in the Detective Conan universe. First, there's Hattori Heiji, the "Great Detective of the West" to Kudo's "Great Detective of the East". There's Kaito KID, who's the modern-day Lupin to Kudo's modern-day Holmes. But of all of the characters, there is one person who would be an even better rival than Heiji or KID. Someone who mirrors Shinichi as a detective, while also being morally at odds with him. That someone... is Ooka Momiji. Yes, the rich girl from Kyoto. Let me explain.
Okay, let’s start with the first piece of the puzzle: Momiji’s detective skills. In one case, she is implied to have come to the right conclusion before Shinichi, Heiji, and Rei while not even being in the same city as them.
Neither Shinichi or Heiji has shown much ability to solve cases without being present at the crime scene itself. The best comparison I could make to Momiji's feat would be the time when Kudo Yusaku was reading the newspaper on a murder and figured out the solution to a case.
This isn't the only time when Momiji demonstrates her detective prowess, though. It's just the most clear. Another time, she gives a hint in the middle of a sentence which gives Heiji and Shinichi the needed information to solve the case.
This is the case where the code is solved by 'adding' and 'subtracting' different parts. Now, this leaves a lot up to interpretation, and I definitely didn't see this scene as Momiji being a really good detective when I first watched it, but if you really think about it, there was no reason for her to say "add" and "subtract". She could have just as easily said "The restaurant should make the food cheaper since the lines are so long." Which, now that I'm thinking about it, makes zero sense since that would only increase demand and make the lines even longer. So, my guess is that she was looking for a time to smoothly give the "add" and "subtract" hint, and found the perfect opportunity to say it.
(She did act surprised when they came up with the answer, but I'm just pegging that up to excellent acting. Wait, is she both of Shinichi's parents at the same time?)
Now, if Momiji solved the code before even talking to Heiji and Shinichi, that leaves a big plot hole. Specifically, why doesn't she just... go to the area herself (where she knew the guy was supposed to be) and potentially stop a murder from happening?
Well, the answer is actually very simple. Momiji is a brat who cares more about marrying Heiji than the life of an innocent person.
In the cases she appeared in she showed little to no interest in solving the case, instead usually pursuing Heiji. Even in the Cafe Poirot case, her motive is purely to 'help Heiji'. Despite being brilliant at it, she just does detective work whenever she feels like it. Also kinda like Yusaku, now that I think of it.
Anyways, I’m getting sidetracked. Let’s talk about Shinichi’s beliefs. Shinichi, unlike Momiji, actively pursues justice, that being the main reason he fights against the Black Organization for the same reasons. His moral compass even guides him to save the lives of people who attempt to kill others, just because he sees that the life of a person - any person - matters, even going out to say:
So, you have a detective who pursues justice and values his moral compass, and a detective who completely acts in her own self-interest. Seems like a perfect basis for a potent rivalry.
Now, why does it have to be Momiji? Why not his father, Yusaku, since he holds a lot of similar traits and has a closer connection with Shinichi already? Well, Yusaku is Shinichi’s superior, and Momiji is his peer. Shinichi might begrudgingly accept the fact that Yusaku is better than him and doesn't pursue the truth, but he most certainly would not accept Momiji being either of those things. And Momiji, who expects respect from others, would react very poorly to this.
If Momiji learns about Shinichi’s secret identity as Conan, she might blackmail him to be supportive of her advances on Heiji or something, causing him to hate her even more. As is, Shinichi would be poised to see her as a disdainful rival, but might try to blackmail her back to have her help him hide his identity.
However, putting Momiji at odds with Shinichi would do more than create tension against each other. It could easily give Momiji some more character dynamics. Currently, her only real dynamic is the love triangle with Heiji and Kazuha, but if she was rivals with Shinichi she would be able to have more interesting relationships with Shinichi, Ran (if she sees the rivalry happening), maybe even Heiji and Iori. And character dynamics lead to character growth. Spending more time with Shinichi could let her mature and become less selfish and spoiled.
For Shinichi, he gets a rival that is also a detective, but also ideologically opposes him for more than five seconds (Heiji, I love you, but you moved away from rivals to friends with Shinichi... very quickly.) And this conflict with Momiji can make Shinichi rise to become a better detective, and could give him a new ally that could help with the takedown of the Black Organization.
Who knows, maybe they develop into friends after a long time. Maybe they never develop a respect for each other. Either way, I believe that Momiji would be the perfect rival for Shinichi: they are both very skilled detectives (and if I had to give one an edge I'd give it to Momiji), but they have different priorities and goals which cause them to butt heads.
So... I hope you enjoyed reading this essay as much as I enjoyed writing it, and have an amazing rest of your day.
