I stopped on the highway because I wanted to run to the illusory end of the rainbow to fight with the leprechaun for a pot of gold.

I drew my cherub Jason finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. He's already green so he fits right in. Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!

August 6, 1922 Gasoline Alley by Frank King
TOP PANEL [ID: Walt, carrying Skeezix on his back, climbs up the side of a rainbow with a mountain climbing ice axe and a length of rope wrapped around his arm. On the other side of the rainbow, doves fly around. /end]
MAIN COMIC [ID: Walt proudly holds Skeezix up on the guardrail around his porch as they both gaze in wonder at a rainbow in the distance. /end] Walt: A rainbow, Skeezix! They used to tell me when I was a kid that there was a pot of gold at the end of it!
[ID: Skeezix walks down a dirt path, gleefully chasing after the rainbow with his arms outstretched. Walt happily follows close behind. /end] Walt: O, but you're a business-like person! You've got to have it right away, haven't you?
[ID: He lifts Skeezix up and carries him off to the car. /end] Walt: Well, if you've got to investigate, now is a good time!
[ID: Walt speeds down the road, kicking up dust in his wake. /end] Walt: I started out once to find it, but my legs got tired and I had to give up!
[ID: They race up an incline, the road lined with trees. /end] Walt: We can travel faster and farther this time and we ought to settle the question once and for all!
[ID: They run into a ditch by the side of the road to avoid a farmer's cart loaded high with hay. /end] Walt: Anyway, we're gaining on it!
[ID: They drive up to a peaceful-looking town in the woods. /end] Walt: What you going to do with your pot of gold, anyway? I hope you won't forget your Unca Walt!
[ID: They motor through a gulley with a large cliff wall to their right and a river to their left. /end] Walt: See, it's just over those hills! Another minute and we'll be staking out our claim!
[ID: They drive off the road, through a field of grass. /end] Walt: Roads don't run right. We'll have to cut across this field.
[ID: They abandon the car in the field and take the rest of the distance by foot. /end] Walt: It's getting fainter. We'll have to move fast.
[ID: Skeezix under his arm, Walt tramps across the field and points off to something in the distance. /end] Walt: It's gone! But I know exactly where it was. Right behind those trees.
[ID: Walt comes across a massive pile of garbage, including several dented car parts, bedframes, bottles and cans. /end] Walt: See, Skeezix? Nothing but junk! I always thought there was something phoney about that story!

End of the Rainbow
A rainbow. So beautiful. Have you ever tried to follow one to see where that rainbow ends? I guess that this depends. Do you know what legends say? The most popular legend says that at the end of every rainbow is a pot of gold! Didn’t you know? If you followed such a beauty, what did you find at the end of the Rainbow?

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD’S MINI-SHORT-HORROR STORY:
#45: THE LUCK OF THE IRISH
By James D.
James and his friend Brian were playing outside when they saw a rainbow. “Today is Saint Patrick’s Day,” said James. “Both of us are wearing green. You know what that means?” “We don’t get pinched,” said Brian. “Yes, but it means something else,” said James. “It means if there is a rainbow, the leprechauns might be out. Today is Saint Patrick’s Day, and we are wearing green, so they must be out. That means there is a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow.” “We have to go find it,” said Brian. “We’d better hurry before the rainbow disappears,” said James. The two boys ran out of the backyard and into the woods. They ran through bushes and around trees. They jumped over streams and climbed up hills. Finally, they made it to the end of the rainbow. Underneath the rainbow’s light was a small black pot. “There it is!” said James. They rushed to the pot and looked inside. There was nothing inside the pot but a note on a piece of paper. James picked up the note, and there were words on it, but he couldn’t read yet. “What does it say?” he asked Brian. Brian could read a little. Brian took the note and read off the words. “It says...WRONG END,” said Brian.
