Guys, I'm reading To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo and without giving away the plot too much, can someone tell me if the TENSION between Lira and Elian ever goes down?? And does the story have a happy ending at least?? The tension between these two is so high I'm finding it hard to read, and I don't wanna keep reading if it has a sad ending😅

There’s a legend that warns of what can happen if a human were to take a siren’s heart.

To Kill a Kingdom is a solid mid-tier book, lackluster to say the most, BUT one thing I love is how licorice is used for Midas and things related to it. Fennel is not uncommon to find here, and it's smell, personally, is equal parts unappealing and sweet and I think it really parallels how Elian feels for Midas, how Midas is just in general, and how Elian is like to Lira.

Any human who takes a siren's heart will be immune to the power of their song.
Only Elian didn't need to take my heart;
I gave it to him.

sucker for that type of character. you know them not the dark broody one but the human equivalent of a golden retriever. brown or hazel eyes with a glimmer of mischief. brown or blonde hair always artfully tousled. signature smirk. daddy issues. yeah those

“If I beat you, what do I win?” she asks.
“The ability to defend yourself.”
Her smile is lethal. “And if I kill you?”
“False confidence is nobody’s friend,” I school in a faultless echo of my father’s voice. And then I attack.
