REVIEWING EVERY CASTLEVANIA BASED ON HOW CONVENIENT IT WOULD BE TO LIVE THERE

CATEGORIES

-Food: does the castle have a kitchen? a dining room? places to eat? (food items do not count for this.) this is the category most consistently not met.

-Sleeping Quarters: literally any bed, sofa, or anywhere soft to cozy up counts for this

-Entertainment: anything like a library, a coliseum, a ballroom, etc. how fun is this castle?

-Aesthetic Appeal: how pretty is the castle?

-Overall: just overall how good of a life you’d have. also includes anything that doesnt fit into any categories

SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT

Food: there’s not much here, apart from the dining table in the castle keep, and the table in olrox’s boss room, which don’t have any food on them anyway. they are still recognizable as dining tables specifically, so i will count them though. the table in the observation deck on the outer wall could count as a place to eat dinner, with a nice centerpiece and two comfy chairs, but i feel like counting every table for this category is a bit too broad. if you’re REALLY hungry you could count the room in the coliseum with the gory, bleeding hunk of meat as food, but as it stands the sotn castle doesnt have anywhere to prepare food and hardly any places to eat it.

Sleeping Quarters: there are plenty of nice chairs, but no beds. the best place to sleep would probably be the two cozy chairs in the library next to the little table with the green flame (i think u get the stone mask there?). they just look very comfy. the outer wall’s observation deck could be a nice sleeping spot, but the only chairs in there are a lot more rigid and not nearly as comfortable. drac’s throne could be ok too tbh, but having to go through the clock tower every time you want to leave doesn’t sound very fun lol (alternatively you could go through the chapel, but theres generally just a lot of climbing going on here). your options arent the worst, but they could be a lot better.

Entertainment: the castle’s got a huge library full of books to read, a coliseum to watch monsters fight to the death, a telescope, boat rides in the caves, and so on. I guess olrox’s quarters also can be seen as a ballroom. tbh i think in terms of stuff to keep you occupied in ur daily life sotn’s got you pretty covered.

Aesthetic Appeal: well it’s symphony of the night, of course it’s gorgeous! obvious points of interest include the marble gallery, the chapel, honestly just the whole thing. this game is very pretty

Overall: eh. ok, but could use some work on the essentials. needs a kitchen and a bedroom

CIRCLE OF THE MOON

Food: i’m actually impressed. there’s absolutely nothing that fulfills this category even in the broad sense. even if we were counting food items it’d lose out since they’re all stupidly rare drops.

Sleeping Quarters: ehhhh... maybe the throne room? other than that ive got nothing

Entertainment: ballroom in the observation tower, i guess using the observation tower in general could be counted as entertainment. there’s also some bookshelves in the warehouse, but going into a dingy old storage room to do some light reading sounds not very fun. the battle arena could be fun to watch though

Aesthetic Appeal: this castle leaves a lot to be desired with its drab color scheme. I think the chapel tower and eternal corridor are probably the nicest looking areas of the castle, and some paintings on the walls look pretty nice. probably the worst castle for this category lol

Overall: the worst. carmilla wtf. also may i please bring up the safety concerns of the extremely contaminated water and the huge hole in the floor with a potentially fatal drop

HARMONY OF DISSONANCE

Food: not much here, but juste’s decoration room does a lot of heavy lifting. there’s a table to dine at, silverware, plates and tea. not much, but it’s there, and more furnished for a meal than the ones in sotn. a decent choice. no place to actually prepare food, however.

Sleeping Quarters: thank goodness there’s an actual bedroom!!! up in the throne room, where lydie was kept. not only that, juste’s decoration room also has a delightfully comfy-looking bed. one of the best choices of castles to sleep in.

Entertainment: THIS CASTLE HAS A GIANT PINBALL MACHINE which surely counts for a lot. there’s some books, a radio, and a phonograph in juste’s room. other than that, not much. but its pretty decent!

Aesthetic Appeal: this might be divisive but i think harmony’s castle is really pretty. standout places include the wailing way and the chapel.

Overall: decent! ...if you spend most of your time in juste’s room, lol. If we disqualified it, hod would be much less appealing... and of course, the convenience is certainly hindered by the constant locked doors and weird interconnecting teleporters. not the worst though

ARIA OF SORROW

Food: there are drawers full of plates and stuff in the inner quarters, and waiter skeletons to serve you food. (i hope you like curry!). the basement underneath the dance hall also seems to have barrels full of food, as well as meat hanging in there. i think we can call that a kitchen area, right? there are even butchers to help prepare it. The garden could also be used to grow produce. your food situation is very good.

Sleeping Quarters: there are some comfy looking chairs in the inner quarters- and a very nice chaise lounge in the headhunter’s boss room. this is your best option for sure, and not bad at all!

Entertainment: there’s a pleasant garden, a ballroom, a coliseum, a study full of books, and so on. on par with sotn, maybe even better

Aesthetic Appeal: it is a nice looking castle, very pretty. i find harmony’s more visually appealing, but aria is pretty good. standout areas include the chapel, the gardens, the forbidden area,

Overall: pretty good! necessities are covered, there’s a decent room to sleep in, and there’s definitely stuff to keep you occupied. It’s also the only castle that actually has a bath! I considered making this its own category but i think aos is the only game that actually hits this requirement so it seems superfluous

DAWN OF SORROW

Food: similarly to aria there’s a garden where you could grow your own food, other than that there’s not much which is unfortunate. had the lost village been populated it’s possible you could’ve bought food from local sources, but that’s sadly not an option. the waiter skeletons are back though! enjoy your curry.

Sleeping Quarters: a sofa or two in the demon guest house, and most importantly- a couple of GIANT BEDS :D

Entertainment: there is a giant piano!!! and ballrooms!!! there’s like... slot machine thingies, also? there’s also nice walks through the garden, and there’s at least one toy duck iirc.

Aesthetic Appeal: very pretty castle imo, the pinnacle, dark chapel and the demon guest house are the prettiest areas imo

Overall: not bad but a step back from aria’s high caliber. very clear winner in the bed department though

PORTRAIT OF RUIN

Food: portrait comes with the important distinction that the titular portraits don’t count. areas outside the castle proper have been disqualified- it must be considered to be the same map (otherwise ooe would win immediately via having a nice cozy village, lol). the reason i bring this up is because the “city of haze” portrait has shelves upon shelves of food and a cake shop AND a bar, but because of this criteria i have chosen to disqualify it- the portraits, in addition, are not real locations, but manifestations of the artist’s will. it is hard to quantify this. anyway, portrait’s got a nice dining room where you fight the vampire sisters, piled high with fancy food, but there’s no real kitchen (a running theme, you’ll notice, lol). on par with harmony.

Sleeping Quarters: this castle has a pretty comfy looking throne room imo. other than that, not much. there are beds in the forest of doom iirc, if you count portraits, but i dont, and it seems kind of inconvenient to travel through dimensions just to find a place to sleep.

Entertainment: this castle has motorcycles which rules. surprisingly lacking in entire sections that could qualify, though. not even the usual library! behemoth’s boss room is a mini-coliseum though so i shall count it.

Aesthetic Appeal: it’s decent. not my fav looks-wise, but i think the great stairway, the throne room and the master’s keep are pretty nice. the windmill at the tower of death is also a highlight. and there’s definitely plenty of paintings to look at, lol

Overall: eh? not as good as dawn. im kinda questioning my decision to disqualify the portraits themselves but i think its fair.

ORDER OF ECCLESIA

Food: THERE’S A KITCHEN!!!! there are butchers to prepare the food, too, and lots of it. if anything ooe definitely wins in this category

Sleeping Quarters: pretty much just the throne room lol, yet again

Entertainment: the library is absolutely flooded with books, and eligor’s arena... exists. honestly if anything ooe’s castle seems more set up for war than day-to-day pleasures, with areas like the weapons depot and barracks being more utilitarian. as a result, it suffers in this category.

Aesthetic Appeal: HOT TAKE but i think ooe has THE PRETTIEST CASTLE IN THE SERIES. The entrance and the library and the view from the mechanical tower and just asdkjsdfhkjsdf its all so good.

Overall: it has its pros but definitely its cons, the biggest among them being no real place to sleep. mixed bag.

[Teiko!manager Headcanons]

in the aftermath of the Winter Cup, your relationship with Akashi has certainly gotten much better, and dare you say, more intimate and romantic; though you were still healing a bit from the emotional scars from Teiko, they seemed to be going away faster than you realized, especially when everyone gathers for Kuroko’s birthday party

you were with Seirin, helping with the decorations and setting up the plates before Kuroko comes in the evening, but what no one expected was for him to bring in the GoMs

YOU’RE SHOOK AND YOU’RE BASHFUL SEEING AKASHI IN HIS WINTER ATTIRE, you’re getting MAD butterflies, but no one seems to notice because everyone’s attention is on the GoMs and Kuroko

of course Akashi was scanning the room for you first, and you immediately look away from his affectionate stare because you were still not used to the old Akashi, let alone his sweeter side for only you

Izuki notices how quiet you got and nudged your ribs with his elbow before telling a stupid pun… the thing is, you were one of the few people who genuinely found his jokes funny LOL

Akashi widens his eyes, staring at you laughing so unabashedly, and he feels really, really bad that he never got that level of a reaction from you whenever you were with him even despite knowing you for longer

now as the party goes on, Akashi is seeing your dynamics with Seirin for the first time and he’s just really grateful that you found an amazing support group during your low times; he’s not particularly someone to get jealous, but he’s getting a BAD case of FOMO because he’s thinking of all the “what-if’s” and all the times he could’ve made you happy and stress-free

“Akashi-kun?”

“Ah… yes?” Akashi snaps out of his daze to see a mild smirk coming from Kuroko on his right side, and Kuroko was about to ask a question about who he was looking at before a shout of “Watch out!” and a ceramic plate came FLYING across the table to hit the Rakuzan captain square on his face

CUE SCREAMS OF PANIC AS MOMOI PUNCHES AOMINE ON THE HEAD AND RIKO JUMPS TO STRANGLE KAGAMI, AND YOU LITERALLY ZOOMED TO HIS SIDE TO CHECK ON ANY INJURIES

see, he could’ve easily dodged it, and he supposed that it’s his fault for not paying attention and dodging on time

thankfully, the plate didn’t break because Kuroko caught the plate before it reached the floor and placed it back on the table

Akashi still has a bruise or two on his face though… and ngl, everyone gulped when they saw him checking out the injuries with a handheld mirror, ready to get their ankles broken

you were so worried over his safety, he finds it really endearing… but he wants to elicit an expression other than looks of worry or tears or anger (flashback to when you cussed him out)

“Wait, but (y/n)...” Koganei said. “Since when were you so close to Akashi that you didn’t hesitate to touch his face?”

a few moments of silence for everyone to register his words

“EHHHH?????!!!!”

everyone is throwing QUESTION after QUESTION at the two of you, and Akashi just has a neutral face with his mouth parted while you were so embarrassed LMAO

Kise being a real best friend, tells them:

“Alright, alright, everyone! Let’s not forget about the birthday boy! Kurokocchi should be the center of our attention today!”

“Kise, that’s…”

“Anywho! Let’s light up the cake and find those party poppers…”

after the party though, when you all return to school, Seirin was READY to jump on you for interrogation, and you do reluctantly tell them that you and Akashi are a tentative couple

Riko: “SERIOUSLY? I mean… that’s kinda cute though…”

Hyuuga: “I mean… yeah, as long as you’re happy, it’s none of my business.”

Teppei: “I hope he treats you well, (y/n)-san.” and of course he gives you his signature head pats

Furihata, Tsuchida, Kawahara: “??????????????????? But why?”

Koganei: “Huh, guess that explains a lot.”

Kagami: “???????????? pt. 2 LMAO” and also “What do you even see in him?” in genuine curiosity

Izuki: “ I guess you two dove into this relationship without hesitation, eh? Get it, get it? Because doves are a symbol of lo—”

“Izuki, shut the fuck up.”

“It means that you love (Ai)kashi—” [Ai means love]

“IZUKI.”

Kuroko simply pretends that this is the first time he’s heard of you dating Akashi, and he gives you his heartfelt congratulations, and as long as Kuroko approves of it, you feel like you’re on the right track (he’s such a good judge of character!)

you and Akashi actually live VERY far apart, considering that your schools are equally just as far in distance, but that being said, for our rich boy Akashi, distance isn’t much of a problem when he can easily find ways to come visit any time

he can also pay for your transportation to visit Rakuzan if you ever felt like visiting him too (although, you insist to pay for your own things, but he’s not having it because he says it’s a treat for him to see you too)

whenever Akashi stops by the Seirin campus to visit, he’s just kind of awkward standing there like the prince that he is, waiting for the perfect opportunity to walk in, but every time, he’d ALWAYS notice how you’re so happy being with everyone here, especially with Izuki, and his guilt just comes back full force again

he wonders if this was right of him to date you when there’s so much people who can easily do a better job in getting you to smile and be completely yourself, especially since he’s been the source of your anguish for all these months (maybe even a year or two if he was counting the duration of your entire crush on him that you assumed to be unrequited)

“Seijurō!” your voice rang out, beckoning him to walk towards you and the group

all of the Seirin teammates are so wary of him, and are all hyper aware of his movements LOL, and Kuroko is just like “hi, you’re back” very casually

Kagami uses this as a chance to challenge a one-on-one on Akashi

Kagami gets destroyed in a few minutes flat

the whole time you’re just watching Akashi with heart eyes, unbeknownst to him while he was focused on Kagami

after the interrogation and Akashi passing the “first stage” of acceptance, you and him find time to have a cute date at a local shopping district to walk around and sightsee

Akashi finds it fun, he really did, but there’s a part of him that thinks you’d have more fun with people who know you better… a.k.a. Izuki, or legit any other Seirin member

he’s visibly distracted by his own thoughts, and you wave a hand to his face, asking if this was too boring for him

“No, no, of course I’m enjoying this with you,” he muses, putting a gentle kiss to your temple. “Shall we get moving?”

“Something’s bothering you isn’t it.”

“No,” he chuckles, giving a gentle smile, but you only frown at him… once again he sees that you weren’t smiling at him

“I’m serious Sei, I want to get to know the real you,” you softly chastise, pinching his cheek. “So I also want you to speak your mind around me.”

“Oh ho… I see that your boldness is still very present here,” he says in referring to your touch.

“Oh my god, can you drop it already? That’s so embarrassing—I cussed you out one time… hey don’t change the subject!”

“Hmm…” he hums for a bit before he comes clean. “I’m afraid that I might not be the right person to be worthy by your side after hurting you for so long.”

“... What makes you think that?” He hesitates, for the first time, not being so sure of himself and his emotions; he immediately thinks of Izuki and your good chemistry with him but dismisses the thought

“... I just do not think I’m capable enough to make you happy.”

“But you are. I’m very giddy to be with you right now.”

“Even happier than when you are with… your teammates?”

“Huh?”

“I apologize,” he hurriedly says. “They are your friends. I was out of line to question them.”

“No, no, it’s okay. Talk it out to me.” He’s uncharacteristically quiet as you both continue to walk and browse through the shops, and you carefully watch Akashi while he’s examining a few souvenirs on the display, patient for him to continue talking

“... the point guard.”

“I’m sorry?”

“Seirin’s point guard.”

“Izuki-kun? What about him?”

“While I’m aware that you only spend your time with him as a good friend… I want to spend just as much of a koala-ty time with you whenever we have the chance.”

he... says this with the straightest face, and you’re utterly confused before you saw some animal plushies on the store window, and the the koala plush, and then the cogs started turning in your head

“... Did you just say a pun?”

“Was it not sufficient?”

a few moments of silence pass and Akashi thinks he did something wrong because he wanted to make you smile (HELP poor captain), before you break into hysterics

between your fits of broken laughs and wheezes, you managed to ask if he was jealous of Izuki, to which he wholeheartedly kept denying until you wouldn’t stop being persistent

you reassure him over and over that he doesn’t need to act like Izuki to make you happy, but it was a pleasant surprise to see Akashi crack a “joke” nonetheless

he’s a bit new to the concept of dating and is still quite unsure of how to navigate this PLEASE GIVE HIM TIME

the date that day was a success (some of the Seirin teammates TOTALLY weren’t spying on you mid-date or anything…)

while Seirin is okay with you dating, visiting Rakuzan ALONE with the scary-ass captain and his “CROONIES” (hint: the rest of the team LMAOO) IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY

RIKO AND HYUUGA are just like:

“What’s wrong with him coming here to visit you? Why do you gotta do the effort to visit him?”

“Uh… because I want to…”

“Yes, but who would you call to help over if something wrong happens? You’d be too far!”

“Uh, Akashi can help me if something happens.”

“With what, his scissors?” Kagami gives a deadpan look, and everyone turns to look at him in utter confusion LMAOOO like what does this redhead mean by SCISSORS???

Kuroko immediately jabs Kagami’s sides to silence him and smoothly changes the conversation before anyone asks any more questions about the “scissors” and potentially make them more reluctant to let you go

oh Kuroko, being the mediator and negotiator as always, trying to set some safety protocols for you to follow before everyone finally agrees to let you go see the infamous team alone

you know, Teppei is honestly just like, “Just go! Don’t worry about our (y/n) too much!”

Furihata is so concerned for your safety for valid reasons, but you reassure him that you won’t “die from the trip,” and no, this wouldn’t “be the last time” they’d see you before you leave

so when you stopped by Rakuzan’s gym after school after looking at the online maps, Hayama lets out a screech of terror before he starts pointing at you and calling you the “crazy ass chick” who tried to have a first-row seat ticket to death LOL

Hayama’s commotion brought everyone else’s attention to you, and Akashi was very surprised to see you all the way here

but he’s just standing at the back to watch how his teammates are reacting to you

Reo is the guy who would welcome you very warmly and would introduce you to the other team members who aren’t the starters, and he would actually ask if you were okay from last time

Nebuya is very laid back and throws a few muscle jokes much to Reo’s dismay, and he makes a comment about not you possibly not eating enough because at the time, he saw you almost tripping up your feet after you cussed out Akashi… he offers you his extra bowls if you ever feel hungry VERY SWEET GUY

Mayuzumi thinks you have balls, like who the fuck would come out alive after cussing out his captain but then COME BACK to said school of the captain… like why would you willingly walk back into the lion’s den??? so he thinks you’re dumb, but he has a shred of respect for you

Akashi is so amused at the spectacle and finally walks over to you after you noticed him

and he gives you an embrace and a chaste forehead kiss, and the entire gym goes silent

“Sei! I wanted to drop by as a surprise! Did you expect me?”

“Hm, I may have expected you to come sooner or later, but definitely not this quickly. Were transportation fees too much of a hassle?”

“Nope! I got everything covered! Do you want me to give you any chiropractic massages if you and your teammates need it?”

“You don’t need to do that, (y/n). You came here as a guest, not as a manager.”

“But…”

“Shhh, as soon as practice is done, I’ll take you anywhere you want in Kyotō. How does that sound?”

“Er… captain?” Reo holds up a hesitant finger to interrupt the two of you, while everyone else looks horrified at the sight of their captain looking serene

“Get a room, will you?” Mayuzumi only tuts in irritation while turning away to grab a nearby water bottle to down in one go

Nebuya merely stares in astonishment at the two of you, and his mind is thinking how the hell did you reel in this guy?

nah man, Hayama is GONE at this point: his brain has stopped functioning a while ago, and he’s standing there as stiff as a statue, scratching his head like a lost monkey // like he’s thinking how the fuck did this shit add up?? in his mind, he’s taking 2 plus 2 but it somehow ends up 94… that’s how he’s processing what he’s witnessing

the rest of the benchers and lower-string players are confused? who ARE you anyways?? Akashi?? dating??? that’s Rakuzan gossip of the century

TLDR; your first trip to Rakuzan may be awkward because the two of you stick out like a sore thumb, but eventually after multiple trips, the team slowly begins to consider you as one of their own

as per Akashi’s “suggestion” (hint: not a suggestion, but a strong recommendation), you were to be retreated with respect and kindness

why? Because Akashi never wants a repeat of the situation at Teiko ever again :(

as long as he is captain, and as long as he has the power and authority, he will do everything he can to make you happy and comfortable

don’t worry though, the Rakuzan starters are more than willing to punt any kid who talks shit about you

surprisingly, once Hayama comes around and accepts the fact that you were dating the captain, he’d be the most adamant and vocal protector, and he’s the one who shares the “inside tips and tricks” about the captain EEEE it’s so wholesome !!

the Rakuzan team is your certified bodyguard group, no debate

Reo might be the nosy mom who asks about who confessed first and the like…

ok less flip phrasing but: why i think amherst was never an a avatar, per se, but rather smtg more like breekon & hope / the not-them / vampires / MR. SPIDER / etc. like a direct manifestation of an entity, not an individual human that got in too deep. (1/?)

“first: Name. THE most boring placeholder first name + bioweapon pioneer surname. its like a desolation avatar named jane fawkes or smtg. fake n badly made up sounding. (native genocide is not in jonnys lane so i dont think a connection between john and jeffery beyond just the surname will be confirmed so, uh, point to me?) (2/?)

second: Immortality. amhersts immortality is WEIRD. like hes not the only unnaturally long-lived character but every other avatar either ages v slowly, ages not at all, or body hops via eyes. the resurrection is limited to some end avatars (makes sense, end is all abt death n cheating it) and hunters but only for unHuntlike causes of death (trevor's lung cancer) (makes sense, hunt is all abt Not Stopping). every time theres a clear thematic connection between the patron entity n the not-dying, which isnt true for the corruption n amherst beyond perhaps the "can't stamp out infestation" approach, which makes more sense if amherst is HIMSELF the filth, not something that simply hosts it (eg the various flesh hives, beetle wife guy, maggie n gordie). GRANTED its extra weird how amherst survived getting set on fire, when fire is consistently presented as a way to "cleanse" the corruption (eg worm sex apt, wasp nest, janes body, ivy meadows, klanxbull). but i guess u could say it shows amherst is a more intense manifestation of the crawling rot. idk (5/?)

(fringe offshoot subtheory i dont fully subscribe to: amherst is literal brain fungus n hijacks ppl to eat most of and then use as organic scaffolding to build up typical appearance? hence massive height n form concealing outfit??? like i said im not sure abt this one. :/ like i think theres smtg there abt the clothing detail but ehhhh not too hot on on the rest) (6/?)

anyways, third: Timeline. chronologically, amherst first appears in 2003 and he doesnt even properly show up, hes just a character in a leitner. a leitner that gertrude burns. hey, u kno who canonically survived getting set on fire? yeah. ("what was he doing in the 8 yrs between 2003 n ivy meadows" uh obviously he was catching up w the 21st century. learning how to drive and buy property. next.) (7/?)

which brings us to fourth: Leitner. only 3 canon examples of lowercase-e entities tied to a leitner book, and theyre mr. spider (feeds via a guest for, and the jp book in mag 110), the lichtenberg figure (bound to ex altiora), and john amherst (features in evil papercut book). and the keay ghost book ig but imo that feels like a totally different kind of "being tied to" so im not counting it. the other 2 are definitely inhuman monsters so why not amherst? i think amherst was contained in the book somehow (not forcibly the way the lichtenberg figure was) n got released when gertrude burned it. i do feel like in that case gertrude arsonized him immediately (HENCE.... Gunna answer these for Jere an Phil and Toolio (if anyone else wants anyone else youre gunna have to actually send me an ask)

Z: Zebra 1. what’s their favorite animal? Jere: night stalkers are cool when tame, big cats (are?)were cool Phil: sharks and squid are pretty neat (uh were? maybe he can convince an institute scientist or a few of them to check) Toolio: he thought the gatorclaws were awesome, uh, *OVER THERE*

2. do they like animals? Jere: yeah and generally they like him too. Phil: he is pretty neutral on them, prefers if they have even a dubious job around settlements/outposts but like, whatever. Toolio: likes most pets overall.

3. cats or dogs? Jere: sure, whatever, seriously no real preference. Phil: cats tend to like him more, he tends to like dogs a little better Toolio: he likes cats a bit more but no huge huge preference

4. what’s their dream pet? Jere: eventually he will have a glowing hound and itll be adorable with whatever other pets he ends up with when he actually settles down eventually. Phil: nah, prob not, thats probably up for Madra or someone else, he will visit someone elses pets. Toolio: probably a buncha stray random pets with Madra, honestly, hes not very good at staying in one place so her place is a good coming-back home-base.

5. do they have any pets at the moment? none of the three do of their own. Phil and Toolio get some pet affection from Madra’s 3 dogs and 2 cats (and whatever else is around at the time)

2. have they ever thought about homicide? Jere: of the three the least. hes overall really laid back until hes pressed. (this doesnt count when money is involved cos like, you do what you need to) Phil: yeah sure, but generally more the plan something out type. Hes not the overboss and the head of the institute for nothing. Toolio: yeah, hes a bit volatile at times.

3. if they could kill anyone without punishment, would they? who? i mean its the wasteland theres punishment but also i bet all three of them could get away with it if they really wanted. i suspect Phil wants to kill a few of the institute scientists but it would be just enough of a headache to replace them on short notice.

4. who would miss them if they died? Jere: it would probably depend if he was in the area for very long at the time, as hes prone to relocating every so often, his current gang probably would, Arcade if he was still alive at the time would once news got to him or the letters stopped. Phil: i would assume some of the institute, piper if he was able to smooth over the raider thing and i bet he could, strong, toolio and madra, a handfull of the raiders for sure, gage Toolio: madra, phil to an extent, several of the raiders (that hes managed to not piss off), gage

5. who would be happy they died, anyone? Jere: probably anyone whose family is left of someone he was hired to kill? Phil: lol prob 2/3 of the commonwealth but it might destabilize it. so good luck. Toolio: actually happy not sure tbh?

D: Decoration 1. how would they decorate a house if they had one under their name? Jere: probably a pretty nice lightly cluttered 1950sish - artsy-pastel. with lots of little lights, lots of art. Phil: cozy-mod. rugs and throw blankets backdrops of neutrals and accents of colors and a little bit of glam stuff. Toolio: hes a pack member all the way and id be impressed if much of anything really went together, but it would be really comfortable, and colorful.

Jere: plush carpet, string lights, candles, thick drapes, too many blankets on a big bed, holotape player, shelves for sketchbooks Phil: Fizztop balcony, bookshelves and drapes, better art, bigger bed, carpets through most of it, a stocked bar, comfy seating areas, changing area and mirror and such inside. Toolio: too many pillows and blankets, probably plushes too, posters and art, a decent getting ready area

4. what type of clothes and accessories do they wear? Jere: greaser jacket, road leathers, scarf/head wrap, goggles as needed Phil: vault suit, jeans and nuka shirt, sweaters, labcoat, ballistic mask as needed Toolio: leathers, cobbled strappy things, tshirts, glasses

5. do they like makeup/nail/beauty trends? Jere: ehh, he would notice shifts in fashion but not far from what he generally does. Phil: he has his own appearance expectations but not really “beauty trends” Toolio: if the wasteland had them he probably would be a bit behind actual trends but he would be out there having fun with it all, and is out there having fun with his looks as it is.

The gems’ economic system

yet another analysis no one asked for, but you know me at this point

so, the lunarians seem to live under some sort of capitalistic system, the admirabilis seem to have a feudal/subsistence one or something like that, what about the lustrous?

these rocks dont produce food and there is no state, which makes everything trickier. so here’s my best attempt at classifying something that was probably never meant to be classified

disclaimer: despite studying some of these things and having a good bg in sociology, i’m not a political science or economics major. take this post with a grain of salt and correct me where im wrong. this is just for fun.

i’ve already touched on the gems’ social and political systems. the simplest, roughest scheme i can write for an economic system is this one:

what is produced and in what quantities?

how is it produced? by whom?

who benefits from what is produced? how are produces distributed?

in the gems’ case:

tangible goods (tables, chairs, paper, clothes, swords...) and services (provided by doctors, teachers, scholars, statisticians/strategists, fighters, librarians...)

by all of the gems, sensei included, through natural resources, labor and human (well, gem) capital (im oversimplifying here, bear with me)

produces are distributed equally to all of the gems and sensei according to need, with great emphasis on not wasting goods (both tangible and intangible). goods are primarily produced according to need (tables and chairs, paper, swords), more rarely for leisure (books, hibernation clothes).

additionally, an economic system also has:

Methods of control over the means of production: the gems do not seem to know private property and, except for sensei’s leadership, there is no actual state. we can assume all goods are held in common

A decision-making system and coordination mechanisms: these are not economically specific in the gems’ case. sensei decides who does what and, after that, the laborers plan and decide over their craft (ie peridot decides who can and cannot have spare paper), always supervised by Sensei and/or Euclase (or Jade)

An incentive system: it’s usually moral persuasion (the social prestige that comes from being a fighter, praise from sensei for a job well done etc.)

Actors (all of the gems since they all produce goods and services) and regulators (the single gems responsible for a task, authority figures like sensei, Euc/Jade)

A distribution system: hard to tell cause the gems do not use money, there is no form of income for their work and no taxes because there is no state.

A mechanism for establishing rules, norms and standards: once again, this is left to the single gems and to Sensei, sometimes to Euc and Jade because they are authority figures

Economic systems are classified according to the property of the means of production and by the main mechanisms of resource allocation.

since the gems do not have a concept of private property and goods are usually held in common, the means are socially owned. so capitalism et similia are a huge no-no.

i tried looking at economic systems with socially-owned property according to resource allocation, but the fact that the gems do not produce food and do not possess a state (they’re only 28!) complicates the picture.

is theirs an economy of subsistence? they have no money, no trade, lack of surplus, they have bronze-age technology, there’s a huge pressure not to waste resources and energies.

but how do you define what counts as subsistence when you have a society that’s made up of 28 individuals and one leader, doesnt produce or need food and doesnt have other societies to interact with and create a market? these rocks dont produce just the bare essentials they need to live because, well, they’re barely alive. they feed on daylight.

still, you could argue that the lunarians showed the moon gems new and cooler ways to feed on daylight, as if the earth gems were barely scratching the surface of what they could be able to do, produce and consume with better technology or by trading with other cultures. as a result, the moon gems adapted themselves to a new (capitalistic) economic system.

a lot of elements fit and you could make a case that it’s an economy of subsistence, but since i’m pedantic, i’m gonna go over a few other systems just in case.

for example, an economy of subsistence doesnt really do justice to how much these gems are culturally and socially expected to conform and be all the same. communism and socialism on the other hand are, at least in theory, built on the utopia of equality.

goods belong to the working class, everyone works toward the same goal (ie fighting the lunarians), all people are equal, which results in a few issues about (among other things) individuality, independence and self-fulfillment.

yet both systems contemplate the existence of money and private property (especially socialism). also, socialism and communism seek to abolish social classes, while gem society has them (ie the fighters and the diamonds are elite classes).

since they lack a proper state, money and a market, it seems to me that the gems’ socioeconomic system can also be compared to a participatory economy or some form of anarchist economy, like anarcho-communism or inclusive democracy.

here’s a brief overview, i did my best to sum it up but if i made some mistakes dont hesitate to tell me:

participatory economy: people come together for all decisions, they determine which goods to produce and which goods go to whom. it’s like self-management but your say in a certain matter is proportionate to how affected you’ll be by the decision. focus is on transparency and little hierarchy to encourage cooperation.

anarcho-communism: no state and no private property, money is abolished, guiding principle is “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” Goods are used, not owned, and each person works whatever job they find most fulfilling (which is similar to how Sensei assigns gems a job according to their temperament)

inclusive democracy: this i included cause it can only be actualized in a small, self-sufficient community, like that of the gems. once again, no state, no money, no market, so no privileges and no accumulation of wealth. however there is a form of currency, labour vouchers, and it gets complicated. The idea of micro, self-sufficient community (domos) is v close to how the lustrous work tho, especially when private and public life kind of become the same thing.

it seems to me that the gems’ system is a mixture of a bunch of different systems. it looks like subsistence economy (social classes, lack of surplus, primitive tech) with a hint of socialism and communism (sameness, no property etc) and the stress on equality and lack of structure that comes with anarchism.

one major thing is that, even if there is no currency, personal value is still assigned (or at least perceived) according to how much you can contribute to society through work.

to wrap this all up: is it legit to speak of economic systems when the gems dont have private property, currency, food, or a market? ehhhh. they still produce and use stuff so why not. still, classifying their system is pretty tricky. let me know what you think and how many things i got wrong

Does anyone know how to randomize ORAS roms?

I've looked up tutorials on it and it seems way too complex for my brain. Its all about dumping cartridges using complex equipment and writing lots of source code commands and stuff?? There doesnt seem to be a plug and play application like Universal Pokemon Randomizer for all the pixel based games. And not even a more newbie friendly editor like Tinke which has a visual interface with file folders and image previews and stuff. Every tutorial os a mile long and i cant even comprehend the first damn step...

It makes sense now why a lot of youtubers doing randomizers have "hey, [username] made this one for me!" in the first episode if it actually requires a super hacking friend to help you. How do i find a super hacking friend??? Do any of my followers have experience working with 3ds hacking or know anyone who does? I'm willing to pay you for your help! This looks SO complex i think it counts as a full time job!

Just to clarify i am really not looking for someone to explain to me how to do it, i think that ship has sailed. Ive tried really hard but im just not the kind of person who can do full 'find the hex value pointer number thingie' type hacking, i dont have the basic math and programming knowledge necessary for that. Praise be to people who make little app things that add visual interface to sprite exporting! What i'm looking for is someone who could do all that hacking for me and give me a randomized rom i could play on my channel. I dont have the complicated 3ds import export machine i only have an emulator on my computer. (And my 3ds is broken...)

But uhh yeah!! If thats possible!! I would love and adore you!! Itd be so cool to try a 3d version of this same original emerald nuzlocke, yknow?

And itd be ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS SUPER COOL if anyone knows how to do texture editing! There's no way i could do that myself even if i knew how to do it, i mean id have to manually change the images myself so i couldnt be surprised by randomized colours. Itd take a lot more work though cos i doubt theres any way to randomize it? But like ive seen randomizer nuzlockes where the hacker adds in one recoloured mon per dungeon or something. Or just edit in lemon lime wooper and everything else is normal, lol!
