why is new horizon kinda shitty

I’ve been re-reading The Lightning Thief and I just gotta say it somewhere before I explode.
I think the series is going to be 10 times BETTER than the book.
There is so much that is irking me on a re-read that was fixed or better in the TV series.
I hate Grover’s wet cat characterization, it feels trope-y and weird and bad and if TV Grover acted like the book Grover in the first chapters of the lightning thief I’m pretty sure we would effin hate him.
I hate Sally’s characterization in the book, it makes no sense. “I’m sorry Percy I was selfish, I just wanted to keep you with me for as long as possible instead of sending you to camp”
Huh?
Girly this guy spent most of his life in boarding school after boarding school, you rarely see his ass what are we talking about? Also how tf was smelly Gabe supposed to cover him all the way out at Yancy??? Is his smell Bluetooth compatible?
I love the new characterization of Sally AND Gabe, the only reason why Gabe was at all “scary” in the book is because Sally is a wet cat and I hate that characterization of her, it doesn’t solicit any empathy in me especially since her actions don’t make sense. How am I supposed to empathize when I can’t even understand her and when I can poke immediate blaring holes in the stuff the book is selling me?
I also hate Mr.D in the book, I know we’re trying to show that the gods are assholes but I think the way the tv series is doing it by having them be detached distanced assholes that only care about their kids when they can do shit for them is 100% more compelling. I’m sorry but in the first few chapters, Mr. D is even worse than Gabe.
I also hate the exposition in the book about how “the Gods follow the western flame” Oh okay American exceptionalism stfu, I think it’s way better to leave it as a soft unspoken “eh it was written by Americans” than what the books give us.
5 chapters in and I keep thinking “damn I wish I was watching the series instead”, “this is so much better in the tv series”, “damn I hate x character's characterization it’s way better in the TV series”
Another thing that I’m silently grateful for in the TV series is how disability isn’t a smokescreen for great mythological powers anymore.
Grover’s legs are covered by the mist, he’s a healthy satyr so he appears a healthy human (like I’m sorry you’re telling me the mist can erase the existence of an entire person, Mrs. Dodds, from everyone’s minds but satyr's legs are too much?), and Chiron has a brace in his Centaur form as well making him disabled instead of making his wheelchair “a container”.
So yeah, I think the TV series is 100% better than the book so far and all the changes they made make me excited or glad because they made me cringe in the original on a re-read, didn’t make sense to me, or made me care less about characters we’re supposed to care about to drive the story forward.

So... I have a few thoughts regarding Sylvie. In spite of my love for Lokius, I feel really bad for Sylvie's character development in this season cause I really kinda wanted her to flourish as well cause last season we didn't get to see her backstory apart from that one scene in Ep4, S1. Just me?
Warning: Contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 5 so do not read if you haven't watched the episode!
Cause there was a lot of potential for Sylvie to become Enchantress!Sylvie. And even though the whole McDonalds thing is funny, I kind of wish they had found a better way for her to become who she is.
Perhaps in Season 3 (I think there will be one considering the high ratings Season 2 is getting), we will see her able to develop as a character. Still, right now it's hard to see too much character development from Sylvie, cause the season is prioritizing the plot and Loki's character development, as well as Mobius's (and a few bits and pieces of B15, Casey, OB, Brandon/X-5 - which granted didn't need to be that long, although I am not complaining so much cause we got some hella great scenes of Loki using his magic).
I really want to see the badass Sylvie again we saw in Season 1. And while I do love her development scenes like that moment with Timely in episode 3, or those small moments when she realizes she needs to go back to the gang, I find that these are small developments and not quite enough to shape her character more richly. I kind of actually wish Marvel would release a limited series of Sylvie (three episodes or so) just to give her story breathing space because right now the only person in her life that seems to really matter is the people in her lives (like that kid in McDonalds or that guy at the record store) and we don't know them so much, so it's hard to feel invested in her life because it feels so separated from Loki's current situation.
So this is not really about Sylki or Lokius (in spite of my love for Loki/Mobius, I dislike the ship wars that start between these two), but mainly focused on my thoughts & concern for Sylvie's character moving forward. Hopefully, we will get some great character development for her soon (Season 1 was rather lacking in that dept, to be honest, and I had been hoping to see more of her getting fleshed out in this season, maybe even going back to her Asgardian roots possibly?), and she will be able to be her own magnificent kickass self after our amazing Loki gets a chance to ascend to the throne he was always supposed to have in the (most likely) form of God of Stories <3!
I mean, come on... if she went back to Asgard right after killing He Who Remains, that would have made more sense right? I know she probably has another double version of her in that timeline, but I just think it sort of makes sense... I almost wanted her to be curious about that life she could have had in the 'original' timeline.
Still, all these not-so-great thoughts about Sylvie's character development aside, I'm personally loving the effin' heck out of this season for the suspense and thrills this show is giving us with the grand twists and turns it's giving us, so apart from this little qualm, I am SO here for Episode 6! <3
I just want the show to treat Sylvie better I guess, that's all <3 Especially caused Sophia Di Martino is SUCH a great actress, she deserves to have great character development for Sylvie! <3 And hopefully a great origin story moment for Sylvie later on in the future for the Multiverse storylines in the coming future!

RNM Season 4 Episodes 7-8
Okay, I have to skip everything from both episodes all the way to the end of 04x08 because:
“I got you.”
Okay, Max, you can move up a spot on the character list. Cuz I have waited 4 gd seasons for this. 4 seasons for a Max and Michael tender moment where Max proves how much he loves his brother and is willing to be there for him. And him holding Michael while he cried and saying, “I got you”? Yeah, yeah, I’m gonna effin take that for all its worth.
I disagree about the Hulk Smash being wrong of Michael because it wasn’t just about Alex being gone - it was about Max lying to Michael. As if last time Alex was kidnapped, Michael hadn't found him 100% without any help whatsoever. And even kept his cool enough to not kill Jesse Manes while he was at it. And despite multiple Pod Squad promises of NO MORE LIES. But Max admitted fault and then also said “I got your back, brother” so… yeah… I’ve needed this for a long time and, yes, I’ve watched that scene at least three times already.
In addition, I will say the Science Bros scene was also incredible. Once again proving that in the end Liz and Michael understand each other so damn well and mirror each other. (There will be a part three to my Michael/Liz comparison for sure!). Liz admitting she deserved Michael’s “The lair is closed to liars”, her understanding of the importance of his powers to Michael - stating that the aliens powers are part of who they are in direct contrast to a certain other character; Michael giving her good relationship advice about letting Max take this path even if she disagrees. And then the hug. The hug! Honestly, Science Bros is one of the best friendships on the show - I will not be taking any arguments.
And finally, unlike apparently a lot of modern sci-fi fans, I love a good ghost plot. So the piano playing along with Michael’s strumming his guitar? I don’t freaking care if others find it cheesy or weird. I gd loved it.
Back to 04x07. Dallas and Isobel were hilarious - including him calling her out on not realizing Kyle’s feelings for her. He’s like, yeah, I totally saw that one coming. Lol Honestly, Dallas is just a doll. He’s like… the emotional support alien, and I love him.
Rosa remains fantastic, and I loved her 04x07 scenes. Seeing her living her best life? Calling Liz out on her behavior? Giving Liz some definite older sister advice regardless of their current ages? Perfection.
There is a couple of discourse-ish frustrations I will express in another post. However, I will express my opinion on the plot twist with the Tezca/Bonnie/Clyde Triad and the Villain of the Season story here.
Very unimpressed.
Honestly, Tezca was working very well for me as a villain. The first female villain of the series, I will point out. She outsmarted them, she was a shapeshifter, she knew everything, and was hinted to have betrayed Nora and Louise. Honestly, I was good with where the plot was going.
And then they had to attempt to turn it on its head with their lame attempt at a shocking “plot twist”. Trying to get us to sympathize with Tezca (“Oh no, she was brainwashed! She’s really a good person!”), having Clyde turn on Bonnie - which honestly is sacrilege after giving them those names - despite spending a season showing us he cared for her and showing signs of him softening towards her like of Earth things and sharing a moment with Michael over a similar childhood. I’m sure it was supposed to make it all the more “Oh, no, Jones had his claws in too deep! It’s horrible that he’s turning on Bonnie! He’s so evil” yaddayaddayadda, but seriously? Clyde is such a weak villain in comparison to every other one we’ve had. I mean, come on, we’ve had Noah, Jesse Manes, and Jones. Clyde cannot compete in the slightest. He is such a wishy-washy baby villain. He is a season one mini-arc villain, not a season 4 main villain, let alone a series finale.
I am so bleh over this plot twist - it has the potential to ruin the series ending for me if they don’t do something like bring back Jones. Or Noah. Or both. I’ll take both for sure.
Okay, Shivani’s lost it. Not quite as unexpected. I feel like that’s been building for a while. Honestly, still way more sympathetic towards her than Insto-Brainwashed Tezca.
Can we get Kyle back soon? I feel 04x08 showed what happens when you let both Voices of Reason (Kyle & Dallas) leave the group on their own for any length of time.

Finally mangaged to start episode 3, still haven't finished but I'm loving how every single one of the poetic/important rolls are hitting in this series.

The Ledge #599: Annual Christmas Extravaganza!
Every year I spend the last few weeks of the year searching for new holiday songs for The Ledge's annual Chirstmas special. Inevitably, every year I find more than enough songs to fill over two hours of broadcast time. This is the perfect soundtrack for this year's festivities. A little bit of punk, a lot of power pop. Some veteran acts return with new tunes (Brinsley Scwarz, The Sensible Gray Cells, The Dollyrots), mixed in with plenty of brand new discoveries whose future releases I'll definitely be investigating.
Just because it's a Christmas special doesn't mean we're ignoring the "52 Weeks Of Teenage Kicks" series. This week's version is truly a Christmas present, as Dos Enchiritos is a collaboration between my friend of almost 50 years, Craig Stenseth, and a previous contributor, Brent Dowell. It's a great version that I can honestly say is unlike any I've played the previous 50 weeks.

Day 12: favourite tv series
Hehe, I'M REALLY GOING TO BE SO FUCKING LOUD!!!
As an opening, I think i mentioned somewhere that I'm a whore for entertainment (though in questionably slump for past few years). Dan sebelum ini ada kaya tren nyebutin the thing to get to know me, jadi inget kan tuh, pas banget yah.
Ok here it is. I'll mention one i have strong feeling to. No specific list.
Secret Love (2013)
No one can convince me to hate about how generic and how cliche the plot is, mainly because ofc I liked the actors who portrayed the protagonist but also because THE CHEMISTRY, and I liked how it make me feel!!! I wish I can watch from the first time again.
Though, It is quite problematic, if I reckon. But every sk drama I watch in that time were mostly problematic, so yeah, what choice do I have (lies).
I still remember the one scene that so right in the feel, (spoiler alert) ketika mereka mau first time, dan si cowo ini nyium luka bakar cewenya, wah, I watched it many years ago, but it's still get me every time.
Goblin (2016)
OFC I'M GONNA MENTION THEY HERE. Ini tuh beneran ada semuanya, angst nya ada, romance nya ada, komedinya ada. Gw masih inget gmana gila nya gw ama series ini, mana kan gw emang suka dilf, and hell they're so effin gorgeous here. I'M GONNA MENTION ABOUT THEIR CHEMISTRY OFC, not only the protagonist, but the whole cast were so perfect for each other, no miss on that part, nothing feel awkward it kinda hit home, I still rewatch the part when they made me laugh so much.
Nirvana in Fire (2015)
Jujur, gw ga suka tipe2 yang bikin gue harus mikir, karena brow otak ini tidak begitu pintar en smart to go through people scheme, but this one?? Hell I love every second of it. Unfortunately , I can't feel a much of a chemistry going, but it is still a masterpiece on plot alone, i don't feel amiss in it. Nah, mulai dari series ini gue mulai mengecambah ke series cina, well mainly period costume drama.
Sebenernya ada sekuel nya dan katanya lebih oke lagi, but I am still enamored by this Mei Changsu and Prince Jing, so leave me alone.
Joy of Life (2019)
It might gonna surpass nirvana in fire if only they're airing all the trilogy, betul, ini series terbagi menjadi 3 bagian dan yang baru tayang baru yang pertamanya aja. Meski begitu gw tidak menyesal (sedikit sebetulnya) karena emang SESERU ITU, hell I don't remember when the last time I was genuinely laugh, a big one by a scene, because it was so unexpectedly funny I crieeed, ofc there's moment too where I cried in tender and sad moments. Again, this far, the plot is soo smooth, didn't feel any amiss, but I can't judge as whole, because again, I'M STILL WAITING FOR THE NEXT SEQUEL BECAUSE THE ENDING WAS LITERALLY A HANGED ONE (and pls tell me when I gonna get the rest????!!!!???)
Word of Honor (2021)
Well, we know how strict that country about bl, but much to my surprise, they're pushing the limits with this series, the gesture, the words, the look, the eyes, omg I can going for long on why they make this sooo obviously gay, but couldn't quite going there it made me on the edge many times! (Like other non canon bl ships I'm currently invested). And one point more they're all pretty ((chefs kiss)). My favorite part were when Wen Kexing deliberately making a fit on everything, my silly clown.
Dele (2018)
This is an episodic format of a series, I wish they're putting more than 8 episodes. They're not yet exploring the main protagonist. I even need to read the book I literally SALVAGED after 3 years watching the last episode (cr book 2). I'm so in love with the main protagonist, I put his name in my pseudonym, I WISH HE WERE MY REAL HUSBAND (i still am). I can't quite explain it, but holy shit I'm in love. Still dooo.
Daredevil (2015)
It's dark dark and dark, if you watched it, you'll understand what I meant, but he's so cute like cuuuuuutttteeeeeee (tempeleng aja gw) series west genre ini itu gmna ya, plot makin kesini tuh bukan ngeberesin konflik-konflik yg udah tapi malah jadi makin runyam, but I think that's the charm with it, you bared with anticipation, curious of what kind a mess they could make, an even worse after another. Btw sampe postan ini dibuat, belum nonton S3 karena gw denial.
Hannibal (2013)
I think I watched it in it's running through S2, so like, around 2014? Seperti biasa gw nemu di lepi si aa, ya gw tonton. Most of the time I don't get what are they saying, ketinggian otak gw kaga nyampe dah, tapi I'm there not for that but for Mads and Mads only (then for hannigram in S3). And I kinda liked the every 'cruel beauty' they show. My favorite part ofc like everyone were the confession. I still played that part once in a while.
The Mandalorian (2019)
My utmost comfort series, it's so so slooow but I don't hate it, gw baca dimana kalo series ini tuh genrenya family dan gw setujuuuuu, karena despite the dystopian future they depicted, it is a family genre, I'm sooooffffffftttt for Grogu and Din, they're so insufferable sometimes I don't get it why I'm having soft spot for them.
