Ship analysis
It’s just so compelling to me that Eddie and Marie (if we overlook her unhealthy obsession with Edd) are two sides of the same coin, as well as Edd (Double D) and Chrissy Cunningham.
Here’s why:
Marie Kanker and Eddie Munson are freaks of their own kind.
The look of Marie and Eddie are inspired by rockers and metalheads.
Eddward (Double D) and Chrissy had a good attitude and sweet nature, despite pre-existing bias.
Marie and Eddie has a soft side, and are willing to go to great lengths for the other—Marie is willing to make Edd a meal and please him, while Eddie attempts to make Chrissy feel at ease after realising she was uncomfortable (due to having seen the grandfather clock).
Despite the polar opposites, they’re similar to their counterparts.

In fact the only Kanker ship I don't cave is EddMarie. I guess Marie's interest is the most underveloped of the sisters, and unlike May and Lee, she didn't shown any true love gesture for her respective Ed. I mean May did cry over Ed in HPH and Lee tried defend Eddy from his bro (and if I remember something, she also carved them in a tree in one episode). Marie, on other side, just seem insanely jealous and a kind of yandere (which is more toxic than romantic), but does nothing for Edd's affections. I guess her feelings are the least genuine in fact, and that Edd really needs to be protected from her. Your thoughts?
And by the way, what do you think of EddMay also?
Yeah I don’t see eddmarie working out either. Which is funny because it is wildly popular, probably the most out of the edxkanker ships. Marie clearly likes to mess with Edd and is possessive of him like her sisters are with their respective Eds. Maybe slightly more, possibly because that’s her personality. I interpret her as the middle child and if you know anything about being the middle sibling it kinda explains itself 👀
Also I think it was @doubledyke recently responding to a similar question and I kind of feel similarly to them that it’s hard to imagine because I also think Marie is just straight up a lesbian. Could be part of why she doesn’t seem to genuinely like him 🤷 oddly enough Edd gets flustered in a way that would suggest he’s not entirely terrified and repulsed by Marie (this could be what the shippers are clinging to). Where as Eddy shows zero interest in Lee and girls make Ed nervous so they must be “bad for Ed”.
I prefer to explore Edd and May as possible future friends! There little crush in HPH was probably genuine but short lived. It was sort of a nice opportunity for the crew to expand on that line from the series bible that says Edd is prone to crushes. There were few opportunities to explore that because of the small cast beyond his obvious crush on Nazz and a few awkward moments with Sarah (that’s mostly her crushing on him). Im not entirely against it though! It’s just not one I normally pick.

Edd/Marie is the only ship Ed/Kanker that I don't cave at all... I mean, I know it's really popular on fandom (just third to KevEdd and EddEddy), but idk... Marie's the only Kanker who never showed any genuine affection to her respective Ed (May genuinely cried over Ed rejection, while Lee tried to defend Eddy from his bro and was the most determinate to save them from the beginning). Marie, on other side... is just overtly jealous (which might be quite toxic). But no one ''true love'' act like her sisters.
Also, considering Marie's vibe ''love bad boys'', I find her interest on Edd of all people REALLY strange lol. Maybe she just choised him bc he was the remaining one...
i mostly dislike eddmarie because i see marie as a giant lesbian who was only into edd cuz he's easily mistaken for a girl lmao. not that she THINKS he's a girl but bc he's got the softest features of the three, y'know. but i am also very picky when it comes to edd ships for whatever reason and i just don't like the pairing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hello; 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 11, 13, 14, 15, 18, 23 for Double D.
My first impression of them
In my vague memories of seeing the italian dub as a kid, the thing that stuck the most in my memory is his voice is constantly cracking! So awkward and so goofy. And the scene in Fa-La-La-La-Ed where he's in the closet with Ed and Eddy and he talks about the ancestral fruitcake is the one scene that stuck in my head somehow.
2. When I think I truly started to like them (or dislike them, if you've sent me a character I don't like)
My first brief period of getting into the fandom (about 10 years ago at this point lol) I was into eddmarie, and I guess any ship makes you really focus on those particular characters and appreciate them.
4. How many people I ship them with
Nowadays only one character, and it's...
5. My favorite ship of them
Eddy 😅 I wasn't interested in it for quite some time until I forced myself to focus on it some more, and it slowly grew into one of my favs.
6. My least favorite ship of them
I'm waving at the elephant in the room haha... all I'm gonna say about that ship is, the 5% that is IN-character and treats Eddy with R-E-S-P-E-E-K is ok as a cute crackship in my book. On another note, one ship I've seen that I just don't seem to get is eddnazz, but to each their own.
11. What’s the first thing you think about when thinking about the character?
His beanie acting as eyebrows haha. And his running animation - elbows sticking out, feet flapping wildly.
13. Your favorite friendship they have
The other two Eds! Sorry boring answer lol. As for the other kids I'd say his friendly moments with Nazz are sweet (assuming his knees aren't trembling too much at the sight lol)
14. Best storyline they had
Because I'm thinking of his interactions with Nazz, right now I'll say Cleanliness is Next to Edness. He just snaps in that one... pushed over the brink of insanity.
15. Worst storyline they had
Maybe Sorry Wrong Ed? He gets insufferable there, it's definitely one of his most tedious moments.
18. How do you think they were as a kid? (Like, were they shy, noisy, wild, etc)
The flashback scene shows him as happy little boy :) and yet there's the scrapped dodgeball-incident-trauma to think about...
23. Future headcanon
I can't think too clearly of future headcanons for any of the characters, all I can think of atm is Edd learning to be a bit more laid-back? I'm so sorry my mind's blank right now😵💫 Thanks for the ask anyway lol

“We’ve created a monster. Marie is the beast.”
“We’ve created a monster,” Edd’s voice shook. His body trembled as tears soaked his face. He and Eddy were alone in the school hallway right after racing out from the cafeteria. They ran as far away as possible to block out the hideous laughter.
“Marie is the beast!” Eddy angrily growled. He stomped his fists against a wall, shaking the school hallway. He snatched one of the insulting flyers about himself and Edd and ripped it to shreds.
Feeling his heart swell, Edd wasn’t surprised. After Marie discovered that he was cheating with her on Eddy Marie’s first instinct was revenge. Marie was not the kind of girl to take anything lightly.
Edd never saw Marie look so broken. And this all occurred right after Marie confessed to how broken she felt, only wearing a ‘tough girl mask’ to hide how scared she felt about herself and the world. Eventually, Edd was going to tell her but he had no idea when or how she’d react. Now, he felt as if he deserved this punishment.
“I could just punch her if she weren’t a girl!” Eddy grumbled curling up his fists.
Edd placed a hand on Eddy’s shoulder to which he jumped. Confused, Edd removed his hand quickly.
Sighing, Edd looked apologetic, briefly trying to calm down for Edd’s sake. “Sorry.”
“You should control your temper better, Eddy,” Edd implored.
“What, you’re going to let her get away with this?” Eddy confronted waving the insulting flyer near Edd’s face.
“No,” Edd took a breath to calm his nerves. “What I am trying to say is that we aren’t exactly innocent in this picture.”
“Yeah, I know, but she shouldn’t have done this to us!”
“And she wouldn’t have lashed out like this if we went to Marie and told her instead of the way she did discover our romantic association!”
“Marie should have knocked!” Eddy argued.
“I do agree,” Edd nodded, tiredly. He was having a tough time keeping his temper at bay.
Edd and Eddy were uncomfortably silent, avoiding eye contact.
Then, Eddy asked. “You don’t still have feelings for her, do you?”
Edd opened his mouth. No sound.
“Yup, that answers it all,” Eddy responded in a dejected tone.
Edd grabbed at Eddy’s shoulder making the young man look at him. “Eddy, no, I am confused!”
“Same here!” Eddy delivered in the most painful voice ever.
“And I believe that Marie is, too.”
“So you’re just going to defend her?”
“I’m not defending her!”
“Then what are you trying to say?!”
“I think we should postpone our relationship!”
Silence.
“W-What?” Eddy asked aghast.
Edd’s own heart even cracked. “Eddy, since we’ve started dating we haven’t been too sure about a relationship. I do share the same feelings, but I am confused.”
Eddy just stared at him, angry but still reluctantly understanding deep in his eyes. The revenge prank Marie pulled still wasn’t helping the case.
Placing another hand on Eddy’s shoulder, Edd smiled lightly. “We’re still young. Believe me, I don’t want to do this either, but it’s for the best so we don’t ruin our friendship! I love out friendship. And we can’t leave Ed out of the picture.”
Eddy’s face was a mixture of emotions.
“Do you understand?”
“Yeah…”
Edd grip tightened against Eddy’s shoulder. “Thank you, Eddy.”

“Super sweet!”
This is it! Eddy is going to knock on the door of the idolized brother fans have been longing to meet.
Unless there is a delay.
“Your queens in shining armor have arrived!”
Oh no... oh wait... yay? The Kanker’s have arrived.
I just recently noticed the floating hearts over Lee’s head as she is hugging Eddy. This is quite endearing. Up and until now I was given the vibe that Lee was only acting as if Eddy were her boyfriend for the fun of it.
I like the LeeEdd ship. I only see them as friends who’d grow close after this experience, however. Eddy standing up to the Kankers during Fistful give Lee a whole new perspective on Eddy. He does stand up for himself and can be aggressive. Something Lee likes in a man.
May also has heart floating above her head. Out of the girls May is the only one who is shown to genuinely have feelings for her Ed.
Marie however does not share the affection. She doesn’t have to openly show that she likes Edd. She still doesn’t have a complete understanding of what love is. None of the girls do. However, Marie does have a genuine moment where she shows concern for Edd.
The girls grew up post Fistful learning more about love. I head canon that there mother finally sat down and had a talk with them about their behavior. She realized that she never gave the best advice regarding men. Due to working so many hours she can’t be home enough to spend time with her daughters. The Kanker’s take any second they can get with their mother.
I’m surprised that the Kanker’s never worry about being away from their mother. Run for your Ed implies that she has to work late at night or maybe all night once in a while.
I dislike how fans think that the Kanker’s don’t learn anything. They back off from the Eds and save them from being mauled in the movie. They want to show them they they have changed without attacking them. The girls are a bit forceful in this scene but they are more gentle then their other screen time with the Eds. The only people who they attack are the cul-de-sac kids who they have never liked.
Since the Eds are outsiders this could be a reason why the girls went after them. The cul-de-sac kids don’t have an understanding on what difference is. That’s why they would accept the Eds. The Eds were starting to back off from trying to impress the kids knowing everything they did made them more of outcasts.
“May? Lee?! MARIE?!”
Notice the name order Edd uses?
Fans and other sources have listed them as Lee, Marie and May.
Does Edd still have a hidden crush on May after Hanky Panky Hullabaloo?
Edd also really enunciates Marie’s name.
Marie dumps out their cargo.
The cul-de-sac kids!
Note: Nazz’s bald head is exposed just like in the beginning of the film. She isn’t ashamed about it in any way. Nazz doesn’t even try to censor it when she meets her crush. This is the first step of Nazz starting to be more confident in herself and not to worry about others opinion.
Edd is not too ecstatic that Rolf recognizes him.
Keep in mind, almost a day ago he didn’t care what the kids would do to him as he was in a blind fit of rage.
Edd has never been too fond of the cul-de-sac kids.
You know, I never noticed that Rolf’s hand turns to a fist when he says Edd’s name. Wow, that turns around everything. Edd is the favorite of the Eds. The kids see the Eds as one person. If one of them did something wrong then they’ll beat up all three.
Maybe the kids aren’t too fond of Edd after all. I’d agree with this observation. They know he’d be better off without Ed and Eddy. The kids don’t treat him as if he were a person half the time.
I remember pointing out this observation in The Good, the Bad and the Ed where nobody thought to ask Edd to join them while watching Eddy and Rolf injure themselves. Edd stands in the corner all by himself. Who would want to stand with people who aren’t rooting for your friend?
All Edd wants is harmony? If things were different would a friendship exist between the Eds and the kids?
“What are they doing here? What are you doing here?”
“Taking care of our boyfriends.”
This is quite rare for Eddy to look scared of Lee. Wasn’t he not afraid to fight her in Hanky Panky Hullabaloo?
Also, have the Eds seen the Kanker’s all summer?
Have we discussed what month Big Picture Show is supposed to take place in? My guess is that it’s early June. The Kanker’s have decided to back off from the Eds and let them decide if their behavior is any better.
“They were chasing you to beat up,” May responds.
And that is May’s final line in the series. She doesn’t speak for the rest of this scene. Is that odd? Before taking her own path in Hanky Panky Hullabaloo she’d always going along with her sisters. The girls have always relied on one another and nobody else. They not interested in being friends with anyone else. Their mother doesn’t encourage it.
Wait, what if that’s why they were at the school dance in May I Have this Ed? They don’t seem like the kind of people to attend social events. Going back to my head canon about how their mother gave them the talk she also believed that it was time for the girls to be more social. They have gone through rough times, especially their mother.It’s time to change. Change doesn’t hurt.
Another favorite eene ship of mine is EdMay. May is the only one who not being forceful. Her face isn’t smack dab in Ed’s. Also, Ed doesn’t look too frightened of her considering how he freaked out and ran around in the schools in the Valentine’s day special.
Ed and May are cute together. They have a lot of similar personality traits and hobbies. Ed is the oldest of his friends. He hasn’t talked about feelings for girls thinking they should still fear them. Ed has had a chance to be more independent.
Everything is going to change post Fistful.
Eddy will need time to figure himself out, along with Edd.
Ed may seek out his feelings with May.
“Yeah, no one beats up our little love muffins,” Marie agrees trapping Edd against the whale house.
Notice how Maries says ‘our’? The Kanker’s like each Ed for individual reasons of their own. Meaning they wanted all three of the Eds safe. Not just one. That says a lot.
“Yes. I mean no. What? Yes?”
Edd is completely tongue tied and sweats profusely. He’s very intimidated by Marie.
I think that Edd is intrigued by Marie. He would like to know what this girl finds attractive in him. Our teen years are where we start to question love. I was interested in knowing what would attract a guy to me. That’s always something you want to know.
Edd has gone through quite the growth over the course of the series. Because of his friends.

Thoughts after finishing Ed, Edd and Eddy
It’ll be lovely if there was a world which there (Double D and Marie) could be an uncouth couple to shake things up in Peach Creek.
Since there was a common ground (the Eds and Kankers were ostracised by the other kids), I believe that if the Eds and Kankers come together, they’ll rule Peach Creek as power couples.
