For Morgan x Astarion...at what point in the game's events did they start ~feeling~ for each other?
I know no one ever cares, but I am STILL SORRY for taking so long to answer this. Its an important question to me ; w ;
I bullied my partner into writing me a fanfic about this very topic actually, and while I am forbidden to share any excerpts until it is edited and completed (which won't be until after they finish Shadowbringers...ffxiv is ruining my life...) I am gonna bring up some of the plot to talk about Astarion’s feelings developing (as he was first to catch them).
In the Underdark, Morgan encounters the Sussur flower. She's never seen one, but has felt its effects on her magic before. Her wild magic surges were deemed too powerful and disruptive to her cult leader, and he shunt her magic off with a sussur enchanted item. Except, it didn't stop her wild magic surges at all, they queued. So when the item came off after 2 years of use, her compound and everyone in it was hit with 2 years of stored up wild magic surges all at once. The damage was catastrophic.
So feeling that same emptiness of her magic shut off sent her into a panic spiral, the longer her magic was shut off the more dangerous she became (oh gods another one of them capable of blowing up) and she was in such a state she could barely communicate and she looks to Astarion, the man sharing her bed, for support and he just...doesn't care. Tells her to get her magic back as he isn’t with her for her personality, and implies she’s useless to him without access to what makes her powerful.
Gale has to be the one to step in and be like, “oh dear don’t worry your connection to the weave will return here you look like you’re having a tough go of it, let’s step away from the glowing flower here…” and basically supports her first public display of emotional vulnerability with gentleness and empathy; all things she had wanted and foolishly expected from Astarion.
When she regains her composure she unloads on him, banishes him from her bed and tells him to find his own damn blood going forward. He ofc knows he fucked up bad when he can’t placate her so he tries to hunt on his own, but he finds the Underdark very difficult to find easy prey. He fails to hunt on his own, and the longer he goes without blood the weaker he becomes. He gets desperate enough to try to feed on rats again, but he can’t keep their blood down anymore. His senses get dulled, and he’s fumbling in battle more and more often.
After about a tenday, they’re finishing up their tasks in the Underdark before moving on through the shadow cursed lands, and everyone can see now Astarion is struggling. In battle and out. Now she’s had some time to deal with her emotions and feelings, Morgan relents and allows him to feed from her again. He goes cuckoo bananas on her blood and tries to do his suave lover performance but she tells him to be sincere and that she wants him to respond to her the way Gale did when she needs help, if this was to keep happening. She tells him she won’t put up with being talked to like that, again.
He agrees and says all the right things she needs to hear to keep providing him what he needs. But now it feels different, making these empty promises. Were they empty? What would it be like to be there for someone and support them? To be there for her? He starts to feel his first pangs of guilt and self loathing realizing he was acting exactly the same way he was when he was Cazador’s slave; no one told him to seduce and trick her but he did it anyways because its all he knew how to do to solve his problems. She wants something from him he’s never had to offer and when he tells her he can do that, he finds he wants it to be true.

Hi! Top 5 NPCs for ffxiv? :>
Joint 5: the bunny girlfriends - Debroye from the bread quest in EW and Lilja from Bozja in Shb :) Debroye is fighting the good fight for flavour and that hardly needs expanding on after the build up Archon Loaf had in the MSQ as worldbuilding for Sharlayan. Lilja is just a badass bimbo nerd who is good enough to work at the Ironworks but cool enough for shiny nail polish and sunglasses in a warzone. They're small characters who you only meet doing side content but they have strong personalities and they get to rep viera girls who are just kinda nerdy and weird. I am disproportionately affectionate to both of them.
4: Gerolt... I think I've just spent too much time doing relic weapons... He's just awful in a really funny way and I wish him all the best and do all I can to ensure he has a better lot in life, and then one expansion later he is once again in deep drinking debt but saying the realest shit while creating incredible artworks. Also he's sort of 1/3rd the parent of the aforementioned child Frog has so I guess I need to at least get child support in the form of the first free weapon of each quest. The AU version of him and Mowen in the relic crafting tools thing actually really moved me and I'm not ashamed to admit it :')
Anyway in terms of "this guy!!" he's so up there and I'm always thrilled to see what Scenario he's in now. Over the long course of the game he's made an impression...
3: Ameliance. I'm certain she's a mob boss controlling everything from the shadows.
But seriously, no. The twins really are favourites but in terms of Top NPCs I'd been wondering about her the whole time since they do make mentions of their family and writing to mother etc and expectations were high, and getting to know her was so utterly wild because the plot demands on her from all directions of her family - her husband, her father in law, her children, the servants she hires who include the hired goons Alisaie brought to the Coils of Bahamut... Like. She is a character who had to be retroactively constructed from everything that has been said in a way that Fourchenault didn't need to be because his template is clear: He's the Son of Louisoix and burdened with cursed knowledge and the weight of history from immediate family and long lineage of being related to founding fathers of his city; he's EASY to write. Now imagine up the woman who MARRIED him, and has stayed married to him. And is going to stay married to him since the twins dealing with divorce doesn't seem like a probable plotline given the emotional directions of the broader story. Okay, now let's imagine a real woman with actual desires and personality who can fit into this puzzle piece.
Fucking Ameliance.
How on earth they convinced me she's real is a feat of writing I am in awe of.
2: Urianger is so important, like. Leave me alone, Il Mheg got me good because ffxiv seems to get everyone eventually, and now I'm nonbinary and he's my nonbinary icon :') SIGH. A Process Has Occurred. I could say more but honestly, I think that sums up that he is important to me.
1: Erenville............. Listen, I own multiple David Attenborough merch people get me because they know it's an easy gift. I had been a kid who sat and poked rockpools and puddles and I put snails in a jar and and of course picked up frogs in the garden. You introduce a character whose job is Animals and especially claims to be an expert in frogs??? He would have been at least with the bunny girlfriends on this list if this was his only contribution to the story. (And I would have enjoyed my feud in peace.)
Instead he's a fascinating guy who stood up for his workers, has leves where he's commissioning presents for gleaners, happily goes against authority to be helpful from the jump.... And NOW we get more content where we get to see him being a grumpy snarky bastard who is the only rational person in Sharlayan AND apparently has been neglecting being the only rational person in Tural too so off we go to see that in action???
I'm marrying him I'm marrying him I'm marrying him...

2, 17, 28, and B for Celia?
Tyy!!! these were so fun to answer, more under the cut!
2, How easy is it for your character to laugh?
this one makes me smile. when around anyone other than the people closest to her, she sticks to neutral expressions, but when with those she loves, she laughs often and freely, snorting at whatever crude joke or funny expression, and giving into fullbody laughter when something really funny happens. even her rule of not genuinely laughing in front of outsiders can be broken if someone needles her enough, and they make a game out of getting her to crack up when she doesn't want to.
17, Are they easily embarrassed?
again, Celia tries for complete control of her emotions most of the time, and can also be very shameless with what shes done, but the downside of your close friends knowing you since you were all eleven means there is some killer blackmail to factor in. Celia is more easily embarrassed if Rametto or someone she sees as younger is around when its happening, and Elena is the best at making Celia wish she could disappear then and there, but if shes flustered prepare for payback because she will not hesitate in embarrassing someone back
28,  Would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth?
Hmm. Unpleasant truth, as she is a control freak who needs to know as much as possible, but if she can tell its a lie, she appreciates the thought of protecting her from the harsh truth or knows the person asking doesn't want to face the truth either
b, What inspired you to create them?
Ooh... so originally she was a ffxiv dragoon oc, and the answer along those lines is i love putting tired characters in complicated environments/systems where they have to make bargains to survive.
in terms of Celia now, at first i wanted to explore the effects of parentelization, something that affects people in my life, but it soon evolved into looking back at my own childhood environment. as i said, i always find structures and hierarchy's & power dynamics interesting, and watching part five of jjba i really got interested in Passione & how it worked, and used and exadurated my own experiences with systems & power hierarchys to flesh out what i think would happen. in its current form, Celia's story is all about leadership and family, and the struggle to survive when trapped in a cycle of violence, as well as what we do to survive.

OH RIGHT
I didn't mention here but earlier this month I watched the live action One Piece - I'd been excited for it for MONTHS because while I'd read some OP like a decade ago (back when the US had monthly SJ) I'd only gotten to Skypiea and then the next thing I remember reading is the Sabo flashback after Marineford; at the time the comedy aspects and the art style put me off so I'd never gotten Into It Properly, stuck with Naruto and Bleach - and uh.
I may have binged the entire manga in the span of 8 days. All 1092 chapters. (Well its 1093 now but that's my first caught-up chapter lmao.)
Oops?
IN ANY CASE: Rambling about thoughts under the cut:
Fav character wise, tied for first place favorite are Sanji and Zoro, but honestly Sanji wins if I had to choose one; on top of the fact that cooks are a weakness of mine, WCI came directly for my throat. Outside of the Straw Hats, though, I adore Sabo (which I'd already decided a decade ago solely off the flashback that destroyed me even back then with no context) but Law is my absolute favorite from the rest of the cast oh my god Dressrosa ALSO came for my throat with Law.
Honorable mentions are Shanks (Hot Dad coded and a redhead!), Buggy (the OPLA did wonders for that but he's a glorious disaster anyway), and Crocodile (don't @ me it's 80% because of That One Theory). Also Luffy is probably my top favorite Straw Hat after the Idiot Duo because it's impossible not to like him once you get used to him. I like almost everyone though.
Obligatory list of ships: ZoSan (my one weakness, couple that bickers constantly but would also kill/die for each other), Lawffy (LawLu?), Frobin, NamiVivi, Usopp/Kaya because OPLA, Buggy/Shanks [it's Cid/Nero FFXIV coded okay they're divorced as hell], and Kid/Killer (Wano....Wano got to me...)
Favorite arcs are definitely Thriller Bark and Impel Down pre timeskip, but post timeskip Dressrosa and WCI are pretty evenly tied.
Uh. IDK what else. I can't wait for OPLA S2 please I need to see live action Ace and Smoker and Bon Clay (#CastADragQueenForMr2) and Crocodile.
OH RIGHT I also watched movies 11-15 and I can rank them easy:
Film: Red (UTA....MY DAUGHTER...I was a bawling wreck...the music fucked too)
Film Z (ALSO GOT ME VERY EMOTIONAL, that song they kept singing ended me)
Stampede (the massive ensemble guest stars slapped and Bullet was legitimately terrifying)
Film: Gold (I liked meeting Nami's ex-girlfriend and A+ Final Fight Scene)
Strong World (Shiki for someone who's like the only solidly canon movie boss you were very underwhelming dude)
I have a few theories that I like/etc but we won't throw that onto the fire here lmao. So excited to see where the final saga goes.

who's eos 😲
eos lago (he/she, bigender) is one of my ffxiv ocs! specifically the gyaru viera you mightve seen in some of my art. hes a warrior of light but hes one of multiple as apart of me and my friend's shared story. i dont draw him that often but im trying to work on that.
her thing is that she was born into a traditional viera village but was forced to leave to preform the usual role of a male viera by protecting the woods and shit. she really hated that though, so as soon as she found an out, she ran away to study magic and fairies in sharlayan (within my canon she names herself after the scholar fairy-- out of canon i just named her after the goddess of the dawn and then realized that it was already used within the game when i started playing scholar)
i had given her a unique echo ability to feel others emotions as apart of a joke turned important part of her character. now that ive played endwalker though i need to retroactively think about how that works (i still want to keep the ability though, its way too juicy to drop)
on the personality front i usually characterize him as someone whos very easy to assume to be shallow or frivolous as apart of the whole gyaru aesthetic, but he's still very much one of the most competent warriors of light. he acts as a source of both emotional comfort and completely unsolicited advice. he's very nosy when it comes to other people's problems and internal struggles and relationships but he is really good at keeping his own issues out of sight. he more or less stays in the supporting role all the way until endwalker. oh and despite (or maybe because of) his high empathy he has a bad habit of thinking he knows whats best for other people even when he doesnt
i never finished his reference so this image is what youre getting

FFXIV Write Entry #1: Cosmic Love
❀ Prompt #9: Fair (Entry for Makeup Day #10) || Read it w/ notes on AO3 here ❀
Excerpt: He knelt before her grave for—what was it now—the tenth time? The twentieth? It did not matter, it may as well be the thousandth, for a single time was already one too many. The shadows from the clouds overhead cast their slow-moving gloom over the figure hunched upon the snowy ground, the watercolor hues of the sunset peeking through every so often. A rare respite from the usual grey skies that hung over Garlemald.
But you are not here to see it.
--
The fact that he had gone through it before didn’t serve to make it hurt any less, didn’t stop that old familiar ache from flaring up from deep in his chest. No. No matter how many times he was forced to repeat this cycle of grief, it never dulled the sting any. It never became easier to stomach like he’d hoped against hope that it would.
Each and every time, it was like another knife thrust into his chest and wrenched, finding new ways to carve away at whatever remained of his tired old heart.
And the guilt… The guilt he felt, especially upon conclusions in the same vein as this one, always struck him with such force that it was almost unbearable.
Knelt before her grave for—what was it now—the tenth time? The twentieth? It did not matter, it may as well be the thousandth, for a single time was already one too many. The shadows from the clouds overhead cast their slow-moving gloom over the figure hunched upon the snowy ground, the watercolor hues of the sunset peeking through every so often. A rare respite from the usual grey skies that hung over Garlemald.
But you are not here to see it.
The Emperor slowly rises to his tired feet and stares straight ahead at the elegant memorial before him, his hands tucked inside his coat pockets to lessen the chill of the icy wind, though it did little to lessen the bitter cold coming from within. It was a beautiful tribute: a statue made in her likeness, commissioned out of the finest marble by the most skilled artisans the land could offer. The pearlescent figure depicts the late Empress in a regal and elegant manner: sat upon the throne in ceremonial attire, crown upon her head and a serious yet somehow soft expression upon her face.
An inscription engraved on the plaque below the statue reads, ‘In loving memory of Her Radiance, first Empress of Garlemald, Aelia wir Galvus.’ The Garlean insignia sits proudly below the dates that denote the start and end of her painfully short life and the brief written tribute to her service to the Empire. Each time he stood here and gazed upon it, the date of her death slipped further and further into the past, but to him it still felt like just yesterday that her light faded from this world.
Next to his late wife’s grave stood that of their firstborn son, Lucius yae Galvus. To the people, he was simply  the crown prince whose reign never came to be, but to Emet-Selch, he was a hard lesson— a painful reminder that to hope was folly. To hope was to deny the bitter truth that he’d known deep down for millennia but had stubbornly refused in his foolish joy at finally getting to play “family” with the one soul his heart could not, would not, ever let go.
Foolish, stubborn hope. How sweet its first bite—and how sour its aftertaste.
He had kept up his façade as stern and hardened leader well enough, for he’d had eons of practice at tucking away and dulling his emotions by now and it was easy enough to slip on the mask of Emperor Solus whenever needed. It was easier still to drown (or at least numb) the pain in bottles of spirits or whatever play was currently showing at the theatre. He’d never cared much for the idea of utilizing alcohol as a vice back in the simpler days, but its appeal grew ever clearer through each torturous century he spent toiling away here. And it worked in his favor, because to the outside world it appeared as though he were acting as any other rich and ultra-powerful man should—gorging on the finest and most lavish of booze and entertainment that the palace’s coffers could buy. Only he, and to an extent his two co-conspirators, knew the real force driving his indulgence.
Despite his near-flawless outward performance, though, he’d been a wreck ever since the day she’d died and taken another little piece of him with her. He’d watched on in abject horror as the light of her brilliant soul had grown dimmer and dimmer, slowly fading out of this fractured world just after another soul’s light had entered it. Had only half-listened, pale-faced and heart in his throat, as the head chirurgeon bowed his head and mournfully told him what he already knew. He’d had to accept the wailing newborn into his arms and turn away from her still form as an attendant ushered him out of the room, chancing one last glimpse of her soul as they covered her body with the bloodied sheet, watched it abandon her fragile mortal form and slip away to return unto the lifestream.
And then there had been the matter of explaining the bitter truth to Lucius, of answering the dreaded questions of a naive child wondering why he wasn’t allowed to go see his mother after his brother was born, and why his father had shut himself away with the newborn and a nurse and he himself had been bade away and urged not to bother him for the moment. The palace had been cold and quiet that day, a solemn mood spreading among its inhabitants as the news inevitably made its rounds as it often so quickly did within those walls where servants’ gossip was an ever-turning wheel. And of course that gossip had made its way to the ears of the young prince, forcing Emet-Selch into a difficult situation when the boy came wanting for the truth.
And then years later in his prime, Lucius was ripped from him just the same, taken by the same wretched ailment that had afflicted his mother and left her body weakened, too fragile to survive her second birth. In both cases, the illness had not been known until it was already too late and their souls had gone back into the cycle to repeat this endless dance of death and rebirth at the hands of that horrid Hydaelyn.
Much as he wanted to love Titus and cherish the gift she’d given him—the life she’d given up her own to bring into the world for him—he just couldn’t. It ate away at him, the guilt of not loving this child the way he did Lucius, but try as he might he only ever felt numb when he looked upon his youngest son. To glimpse him was to glimpse the last remaining fragment of herself she’d left behind in this incarnation, to acknowledge him was to acknowledge that he himself had her blood on his hands.
For one fleeting moment in time, we were happy. We had a family of our own and the world at our feet. I managed to find her, to pull her up out of this cesspit crawling with unworthy halfmen and their filth and raise her far above them where she rightfully belongs. And in so doing, I let down my guard and dared to dream that this time would be different.
But it was never any different, and he knew it. He had allowed himself to get swept up in foolish fantasies of marriage and having children and chasing the life they’d never fully gotten to have back then. When she’d discovered her second pregnancy he’d been surprised, having thought one was enough of a miracle, but he’d been happy nevertheless. Two was a good number—it was the amount of children they’d talked of potentially having back then. She’d delivered their first without any trouble, so the fear had scarcely been on his mind until he was suddenly watching her die right in front of him all because of what he had done to her. It was his fault, and he wore the blame heavy upon his shoulders much like the rest of his ceaseless burdens.
“There you are, Your Radiance. We have been looking for you; Lord Varis wishes to-”
“Leave me. Whatever it is, it can wait.”
The young page opens his mouth as if to say something more, but he immediately thinks better of it when Solus turns his head ever so slightly in the boy’s direction, just enough to shoot him a hardened glare from those weary aurum eyes. It’s a look that most would know better than to challenge, and young and inexperienced as the boy might be he’s smart enough to silently dismiss himself and leave the Emperor to his brooding.
Solus sighs, a heavy sigh that rattles his chest as he turns his gaze upward toward the heavens. Weary though his body may be in its old age, he wishes to stand here a little longer before retreating back to the seat of his throne. It was something he liked to do every year on the anniversary of her death, the one little sliver of foolish and hopeless romanticism he’d let himself cling onto—he liked to come out here and tell her about the goings on in the world and the progress he and his brothers had made with their plans. And then he’d look up and watch the flow of aether as life moved tirelessly around him, and wish that he could return to that aetherial sea once his mortal vessel had gasped its last breath.
What he would not give to join them.
Once he has had enough of allowing himself to feel for the time being, he turns and begins to make his way back inside the palace, but not before spitting at the sky and cursing Hydaelyn one last time for taking her away from him over and over again. For taking everything he’d ever loved and always finding ways to    weaponize that love against him. For punishing his selfless duty to the star by holding hostage the soul he was already eternally bound and devoted to—the soul which had been his long before She had claimed it for her own—and leaving him with naught but a madman and an empty shell of a devoted emissary for companions, neither of whom would ever be able to understand his plight far gone as they were. Not to mention two surviving ever-present reminders of what almost was, each with their own living legacies now that would ensure his mistake continued to create its grotesque ripples through time.
To call it unfair would be a gross trivialization at best.

FFXIV Writes 2023 Day 7 - Noisome
Had Arashi realised that picking up the way of the lance would lead to her traipsing through the icy wastes of Coerthas, she’d have chosen another weapon without question. Not only was she freezing her scales off through her entirely-too-thin armour, she was also nearly blind from the snowstorm that had whipped up around her. Despite that, though, she could feel something out there, calling to her. Guiding her to it with an all-too-familiar emotion. Hate.
Alberic seemed a good enough sort, but there was something he wasn’t telling her. She couldn’t put her finger on what, but she hadn’t survived five years alone after the Calamity without listening to her less savoury instincts. The ones that kept her away from cities, away from people, away from the danger she now sought out as a newly minted Scion. The one awaiting her out in the snow.
Those instincts were calling her a swiving idiot.
Still she trudged on, cold biting into her every pore. She could see something in the distance, something that might well lead to her quarry. If the thief was still in Ishgard, they would need a campfire in this flurry, and somewhere sheltered to tend it. And sure enough a plume of smoke was twisting into the sky from a nearby cave. With freezing fingers Arashi prised her well-worn spear from its sheath on her back. If push came to shove, she would retrieve the Eye (whatever it was) with force. Diplomacy was never her strong suit.
The campfire was burnt out, its occupant fled. Arashi cursed viciously under her breath. So much for an easy hunt. She stepped into the small, dark cave, shaking snow off her… well, everything. She’d find nothing in the blizzard, especially with her only promising lead quashed. There was always the risk that she’d lose her quarry’s tracks once the snow finished its descent (if it ever did), but better that than to lose herself in the endless white. A canny hunter knows when not to walk into the jaws of another. Her father’s words, taught to her and her sister in another life. Arashi pushed down the sudden surge of emotion. “Not now, you have a job to do,” she muttered to herself. The self-loathing could wait until she was free of Coerthas.
Arashi poked the dying embers of the fire with a nearby twig, half hoping and half urging the extinguished flame to become a phoenix and warm her aching body. Her exposed tail in particular was near numb, and her horns felt like they were ready to drop off. If I’m supposed to be some draconic heretic, why oh why do I still feel the bloody chill, o all-knowing Ishgardians? Bastards wouldn’t know a dragon if it flew in and kidnapped their archbishop. Arashi warmed herself with bitter thoughts and petty ideas of revenge. It almost helped. Almost.
Snap. Arashi whirled towards the cave entrance, spear suddenly in hand and pointed towards unseen danger. She could just about make out the creatures moving towards her through the snow. Hippogriphs. A whole pack of them. Either drawn out by hunger, cold or sheer desperation. The closer they grew the easier it was to hear their snarls. Four, five, six… Arashi had the advantage of the cave’s natural bottleneck, but she also had nowhere to run. She could try to get out in the open, but-
One of the beasts flew at her, mouth wide open in a predator’s smile. Faster than thought Arashi responded, her spear slamming into the beast’s throat as it lunged. It crashed to the ground beside her, kicking and spasming as it bled out. Arashi was quick to free her spear, but not quickly enough as another of the beasts slammed into her gut. Arashi tumbled to the ground, barely getting her spear into a desperate guard as the creature tried to open her throat. Arashi delivered a vicious boot to its hind legs, hearing a snap as the hippogriph was knocked loose. It tried to rise but failed, clearly in pain.
The rest of the pack closed in, cutting off her chances of escape but not ready to commit. With one of theirs dead and the other wounded, they had learned caution. Arashi stared them down, death in her eyes. Hers or theirs, it didn’t really matter. I’ll see you soon, Sanda. She wondered if her sister was watching her even now, waiting with her parents to finally welcome their foolish daughter into the next life. Arashi closed her eyes and-
A whirling comet of flame crashed into the snow, screeching like a dying beast and sending a wave of apocalyptic heat whirling from its epicentre. The rest of the hippogriphs were flung everywhere, dead before they hit the ground. Arashi had just enough time to shield her face before the blazing heat caught her too. She just about managed to keep her footing, using the spear as support and hoping it wouldn’t become kindling.
The flame and heat died as quickly as it arrived, howling winds and icy snow reclaiming their suddenly stolen seat. A figure in black rose from the crater they had left, clad all in black and casting a helmeted gaze at the cave. At Arashi.
“That Ishgard would resort to sending coin-starved adventurers after me... I know not whether to laugh or feel insulted.” The words were rough, spoken from a parched throat that was clearly no stranger to a lack of coin in turn. Still, there was a certain pride to them all the same. Arashi glared, ready to retort when the figure suddenly froze. A lurid red glow was steadily building from one of his hands, or rather the orb that it held. That must be the Eye, then.
“Th-The Eye! It rouses...for another!?” The man looked dumbfounded, then quickly shook his head. “Preposterous…” He turned fully to face Arashi, pointing his shining lance directly at her. “Our paths shall cross again. You can be sure of it.” Then he was gone, a mighty leap taking him high into the storm and out of sight.
Arashi decided then and there that she hated that man. It was not a decision she would soon regret.

Aymeric, G'raha, Thancred, Yusuke, Demyx
Yet another long one. Given who you put on the list, it's not surprising.
Aymeric, G'raha, Thancred, Yusuke, Demyx
First impression
Aymeric: “WHY IS HE SO PRETTY? He’s evil, he’s absolutely evil. There’s no way he’s not, he’s pretty and is in a position of power.” followed by you and red assuring me he’s not, and me very rapidly falling head over heels for him.
G'raha: This one’s a bit of a cheat since I knew most of his spoilers through art and comics well before I got into FFXIV, but my first impression of him in game in the Crystal Tower raid was “Oh my god, he’s a playful nerd and a snarky little shit. I love him, no wonder he’s popular.” (followed by being informed that most people liked him because of Shadowbringers, and didn’t really care for him in ARR which I was very indignant about. He’s just as fun in ARR as he is in ShB and beyond.)
Thancred: word for word “..... whomst is the pretty boy with silver hair in the main quest line? He's snarky, I like him.” And that very quickly jumped to “Oh I love him, he’s great.” and getting very excited whenever he showed up. There’s a reason he’s Etheria’s love interest from 1.0 - the end of ARR (when he decides to be an IDIOT alongside Y’shtola and they never recover because Heavensward happens). But I loved him from the beginning. The “flirty idiot is actually super badass spy faking it to get info” is one of my favorite tropes, so he hit just right from the get go. The fact that you could just barely see the switch from when he went from flirting to catch their attention to actively wheedling info from them just made it so fun. He doesn’t do that much anymore - he’s switched to a more serious way of spy networking (not that we ever get to see it) - but it was fun to watch in 1.0 and ARR.
Yusuke: My first impression that he was a pretty boy with no respect for boundaries or understanding of social cues. Awkward dork who didn’t know how to emote, and was almost certainly neurodivergent and horribly abused. Which I mean. Yeah.
Demyx: “I HATE HIM SO MUCH, HE’S SO STUPID JUST DIE ALREADY.” - yelled by my small child self before rage quitting Kingdom Hearts entirely for like, three years. Baby me did not understand the concept of leveling or properly equipping accessories, RPGs were just games where you hit things until they died. Once I came back to KH when I was a bit older and knew how to play I beat him on the first try and he quickly became my favorite Organization member for years.
Impression now
Aymeric: I love and adore him, he’s so good. Someone please rescue this man from his office, I don’t think he’s eating or sleeping. He’d rather be anywhere else, adventuring with us, but he’d never turn his back on his duty. Someone take over for a week and give him a vacation. I’ll take him adventuring somewhere. It’ll be fun. (They won’t and he won’t, but I can dream…) But in all seriousness, he’s a wonderful character with fascinating backstory and political drama around him, and the fact that he’s remained a genuinely good and caring person despite Ishgard’s everything is incredibly impressive and is proof of how strong of a person he is.
G'raha: He’s still a fun dork! More mature and a little softer than in ARR, but that dorkiness and mischief and troublemaking are still there underneath it - he’s just been forced to rapidly assimilate a couple centuries worth of horror and misery and desperate fragile hope in the form of his future self’s memories so he’s not as carefree as he was. He’s not sad and tired like the Exarch was though - and I really like the dichotomy of it. It’s not a clean cut “oh yeah, they’re basically separate people” or “yeah he’s just past G’raha with his future self’s memories/the Exarch in his younger body” it’s… something a little in the middle. He’s more G’raha in some ways, more Exarch in others, and it’s not always easy to tell which has more influence, and I really love that - and I appreciate Endwalker calling attention to it.
Thancred: I still love and adore him so much. He’s so good. Went from big brother shaped for Minfilia to dad shaped for Ryne (and a little bit for Gaia, though we left before that could really happen). Self-sacrificing idiot, he’s almost as bad as Y’shtola and WoL about the “one death an expac” scares - ARR horrified me, and EW gave me a heart attack. SB and ShB weren’t as bad because I didn’t believe it for a second that he was dead, but they still gave me some unpleasant anxiety over his well-being. He cares so much, too, about everyone and it’s wonderful.
Yusuke: I still like him! He’s an interesting character to explore, and his dynamic with the others is fun. He’s not my favorite, but that partially because characters who kind of revolve around running gags tend no to be - he’s got a couple that the game uses a lot in the main line story, and I feel like it detracts a bit from some of his more serious moments? He can be serious, but outside of his Confidant everything after Madarame’s Palace feels a bit like his character is mostly used for comedy. Striker’s helped a lot with that, but… it just feels like there were a lot of missed opportunities for good character moments later on - especially with Haru and Akechi, and I’m not sure he ever really got full closure with Madarame.
Demyx: He’s still one of my favorites, but he’s fallen to the backburner a bit because I’m just waiting increasingly impatiently to ACTUALLY GET BACKSTORY. GIVE ME THE LORE NOMURA. I’VE CHANGED MY HCS FOR HIM FOUR TIMES NOW. I THOUGHT HE WAS UX, THEN I THOUGHT HE WAS DR. HE WAS NOT. SO IS HE MISSING LINK OR IS HE QUADRATUM. GIVE ME A N S W E R S
Favorite moment
Aymeric: Oh god I have to choose? There are so many. The first moment that he got to me was around Snowcloak, his “There are those who believe that faith is a renunciation of free will - that unquestioning devotion is required of all those who would live a life in service to the Fury. Such righteous fervor may well serve a knight on the front line - less so a leader of men. We are all at liberty to interpret the scriptures as we will. I choose to believe that the Fury would value the lives of Her followers over the deaths of her enemies.” THAT was what made me fall for him. Then there was his low-key dressing down of Alphinaud, “Do you know what sort of man becomes lord commander of the Temple Knights? One who comes from good stock. I did not, yet here I am. Now why do you think that is? Because I swiftly learned to tell the difference between words, deeds, and beliefs.” It’s great. So good. I love him. AND THAT’S JUST ARR. HW has so many good moments - his belief in us when we bring back Hraesvelgr’s story, his fury and indignation at the Archbishop for the lies to their people, his grief over Haurchefant, his parlay with the dragons, his speech to the people convincing them of the peace treaty, convincing Hraesvelgr to help… and then Stormblood has one of my favorite moments with him. The way he comes sprinting to your room the moment he hears that you’ve woken, and the sheer relief when he sees you alright… top tier fantastic. Especially when you add in his fond exasperation with Estinien. OH RIGHT AND THE HW SCENE WHERE HE’S CARRYING ESTINIEN FROM THE BRIDGE. It’s so good. He’s so good.
G'raha: Oh where to start. Crystal Tower is very well done by ARR standards, G’raha is such a fun and compelling character. His intro is great - the mischief, the drama, and his little grin when he finally introduces himself, it’s fun (I really loved his little prank/mischief making, though I’ve seen a lot of people who thought it was annoying which I still don’t understand). That shot where he walked into the tower as it closed made me tear up - it was so good even though it hurt. And then ShB, oh man his moments. That conversation with Vauthrey was nice, and the little trick with the glamour made me cackle, it was great. The “reveal” scene was amazing and awful. The scene post-Amaurot was beautiful. 5.3 was heart-wrenching from beginning to end, but the very last scene was… honestly very very close to my favorite. His stand and taking charge in Radz-at-Han was also amazing, but… honestly I don’t think anything can compare to his little speech in Ultima Thule. It’s just too good - a little philosophical and a lot heartfelt. It’s perfect.
Thancred: Oh noooo my favorite moment… honestly it might be weird to put it, but his post-Ifrit scene in Minfilia’s office in ARR is still one of my favorites. The quiet vulnerability and grief as he dropped his mask stabbed me right in the heart. It was such a simple and quiet scene, but it was so, so good. The fight with Ranjit is so so good, I love it so much, and the naming of Ryne scene is just… top tier. And Endwalker. That scene in Thavnair where he and Estinien are talking about Fandaniel, and nihilistic despair… It’s hard to say what my favorite is. There’s so many good ones.
Yusuke: Hmmmm he has several good ones as well, but both his awakening scene and the final confrontation against Madarame are tied for me. They’re both excellent, and really show off his raw, unfiltered emotions.
Demyx: Oh man the fight in KH2 is still one of my favorite parts of the game. For a flight that made me rage quit when I was little, it’s a lot more fun now (well. regular fight. his data fight not so much.) But the actual narrative part of it is so, so good. Demyx really shows his full character off in them. He genuinely tries to reason with Sora - it’s not his fault Sora didn’t get Roxas’ memories. But when Sora completely shuts him down, the switch flips and he goes “Fine then.” Secret badass who acts like an idiot until they have reason to stop pretending is my favorite trope, and Demyx definitely hinted at it in that fight. Also his line “Oh, we do too have hearts.” I know a lot of people say he was just deflecting to throw Sora off, but I really think he noticed and just… no one would believe him so he just shrugged and went whatever. He wasn’t gonna fight about it. But that whole scene before and after the fight are my absolute favorite moments of him.
Idea for a story
Aymeric: Aymeric will get a vacation, he will get a break and let the four houses run things for a week, Artoriel can run damage control for a week. Etheria’s going to take him on an adventure, it’ll be fun. Estinien and G’raha will probably dragged into it somehow. Aymeric will get to be a normal adventurer for a week, and get a break from politics to help people hands-on for once.
G'raha: We are going to establish a transportation connection with the First so G’raha, Thancred, and Y’shtola can see Lyna, Ryne, and Runar again. I just want a story of the Scions finally getting to return to the First, and for G’raha and the people of the Crystarium to interact with G’raha just being G’raha, without the mantle of the Exarch weighing him down. I want to see the nostalgia of him looking around talking to people, and the awkwardness of them not knowing how to address him while he tries to bite back the urge to give advice and recommendations about setting up the new government or cleaning up the world. He’s trying so hard not to take command again, and they’re trying not to put him in the position of command. Just… exploring the relationships of him and the First post-EW, and how they relax and find the balance. Not to mention everyone reacting to G’raha being an absolute dork, excitably chasing down adventure with Etheria and the other Scions with an eagerness that’s as endearing as it is different.
Thancred: So I know I've talked about this before, but I really want to write a fic where WoL's light blast in ARR untempers Lahabrea - but also somehow intertwines his and Thancred's souls so he's still stuck in Thancred's body. So now they have to learn to deal with each other, while Lahabrea feels saner and more stable than he has in several thousand years - plus he's completely cut off from Zodiark and he isn't quite willing to damage Thancred's soul further by trying to take control again, or accidentally destroy both their souls trying to escape. Lahabrea just "12,000 years. 12,000 years and it's come to this." Thancred is displeased and has to come to terms with this now, while trying not to panic Lahabrea still being there. It would certainly make everything after that more interesting.
Yusuke: I know there's a ton of these out there, but I really want to eventually write Yusuke painting the Thieves. Just a series of vignettes of him painting them truly as he sees them.
Demyx: I want to eventually write some of his time in the Organization, plus KH2 and 3, from his perspective. I'm waiting until we actually find out who the hell he is, but I really want to see his perspective on things.
Unpopular opinion
Aymeric: Hmmm I don't think I have any? No one's really said anything about him that I don't agree with.
G'raha: Potentially setting some fires here, but he's really not "uwu softboi wol simp". He's just… I know the fandom likes to make him this helpless simp, yaoi uke stereotype to the max, but he's not. He's very much his own person with his own strengths and personality, and while we might be an important part of his world we aren't the only important thing at the center of it. He's helping Krile rebuild the Students of Baldesion, and everything that comes with that. He might drop everything to rush to our aid should we need it, but he's not with us all the time because he does have other priorities. Personally I'm glad they're fleshing him out and giving him time to be his own character away from us. Characters whose entire personality and character revolve around the protagonist are boring.
Thancred: The playboy flirt act from ARR could not more obviously be an act. He drops it so fast in some scenes, why are people taking it at face value. Thancred is a walking guilt-complex with paranoid anxiety who puts on an act to get information and hide his emotions so he doesn't have to deal with them. This shouldn't be an unpopular opinion since it's literally canon - I'm almost positive all of this is stated in tact at one point or another - but I see people's takes ignoring this every time I go into his tags so I guess it is.
Yusuke: His gags, while amusing at first, get used too often, to a degree that it detracts a bit from his character. Not all of them! The awkward artist and the shenanigans therein are usually good for his character and can reveal a lot, but the "useless with money" thing stops being funny when no one addresses it seriously. If it were a gag that everyone was actively trying to teach him and he kept forgetting over something ridiculous I'd be fine with it, but the Thieves just roll their eyes and ignore it, which makes no sense and turns it from funny into concerning. I think it'd even be fine if they'd just stuck to one gag like most characters, but they gave Yusuke multiple and it just… it overshadows the rest of his character sometimes.
Demyx: oh don't even get me started. First of all the MoM theory makes no sense. It just doesn't. It serves no purpose from a narrative standpoint, and actively undercuts several other ongoing arcs in ways that wouldn't make sense for any of the characters (Luxu, primarily, but also Sora, Xehanort, potentially Luxord, and to a degree even Darkness.) I also don't think he's actually as much of a lazy idiot as he acts. There are times where he's downright scary - that fight in KH2 had a lot of undertones that haven't quite been addressed, but KH3 sure hinted at them with that line "I can be extremely imposing - when I want to be." That line was very validating after believing for years that he was a lot more dangerous than he presented himself - his attitude switch with that "Silence, traitor." was telling.
Favorite relationship
Aymeric: Okay as much as I love his relationship with both Lucia and Artoriel, and as fascinating as it is with Haurchefant, Estinien has to take number one (granted I’m not counting WoL into these, because I’m biased so it would be a given). He and Estinien have been best friends for over a decade, and it’s clear in every interaction - or even just how they talk about each other - how much they care for each other. It’s really nice to see, plus the little hints of them teasing each other (the fact that Aymeric actually wears the elephant costume…) even while they fiercely defend each other (Estinien snapping at our group for talking about rumors of Aymeric being a bastard, outright denying it, even though he knows it’s true, because he refuses to not defend his friend). They have so much care and trust for each other, even if we only see glimpses of it.
G'raha: Again excluding WoL, I have to say probably either Alisaie or Krile. He and Alisaie are such adorable friends - Alisaie mocks him mercilessly, but is the first to yell at him for putting himself in harm’s way even as the Exarch. And he doesn’t respond overmuch verbally to her teasing, but he does seem to lean into it and take it positively. He also tends to turn to her first of the Scions (aside from us) from what I can tell - though how much of that is friendliness and how much of it is concern for her aggressive recklessness I’m not sure. He and Krile have a long relationship as Students of Baldesion together (I mean she calls him Raha, come on), and every scene they’re in is also her teasing him and him shrugging it off casually. But it’s clear how much they respect each other, and it’s fun to see their relationship and speculate how they came to be friends.
Thancred: Ryyyynnneeee. Hands down, it’s so cute. He and Urianger are really sweet too, they obviously care a lot for each other, but… he loves her so much. It’s clear how much he adores her, and though he has a lot of trouble showing it for the first part of ShB, once his wall finally cracks and he’s willing to be honest with her it’s so, so clear how much he loves her. If we’d gotten to see more of it Ascilia/Minfilia might have been a contestor as well, but we never really got to see their relationship honestly - it was always through the lens of being a Scion. The hints of it were there, but what little we saw can’t stand up to what we saw between Thancred and Ryne in ShB.
Yusuke: Hmm it has to be either Akira or Futaba, because they’re both great. He and Futaba’s teasing and snarking each other is always fun, and it’s nice to see them bring out the quirky, argumentative sides of each other. His relationship with Akira is a lot more low-key, generally, unless he’s in full art mode in which that case his full eccentrics make their appearance. But even then, their relationship is generally very supportive and heartfelt and honest, and I really enjoy that. His relationship with Ryuji is also great, though we never get to really see much of it.
Demyx: lol what relationships, that would require screentime. But in all seriousness, I really like the potential of his relationship with Zexion/Ienzo - partially due to some interesting fics I’ve found over the years exploring their potential relationship as the youngest members of the Organization who don’t get taken entirely seriously. In terms of canon relationships we actually see, probably Vexen/Even. Their interactions in KH3 were hilarious, and certainly set the stage for some very interesting interactions going forward.
Favorite headcanon
Aymeric: If he had his way he’d happily give his position over to the four houses, ensure Ishgard was stable and would continue being stable, and then “retire” to being an adventurer with the WoL. If he could have gotten away with it, he’d have joined the Scions with Estinien in a heartbeat. He knows he can’t, but he can’t help the quiet yearning to escape his office and position of responsibility and take up arms with them. (He just wants to spend time with the people he loves and go on adventures. It’s selfish to consider, perhaps, but he’d be satisfied with that if he knew Ishgard would be safe and well.)
G'raha: G’raha doesn’t regret what’s happened to him, what he’s been through, and he wouldn’t erase it even were he given the opportunity. He may question who he was, doubt his own identity and sense of self at times, but he wouldn’t change it for a moment. He has too many memories of those he left behind in that broken timeline, and then the many he both saved and failed upon the First. He wouldn’t give those up for the world, no matter the pain or doubt they may bring.
Thancred: He remembers everything that happened while being possessed by Lahabrea. He doesn’t like it, and will deny that he remembers until his dying breath, but he absolutely does and he hates it. It was why he was so miserable in the latter half of ARR - not only was he responsible for the loss of over half the Scions, he was forced to watch it happen in front of him, and despite how much he fought and struggled he couldn’t break free of Lahabrea’s hold. He still hasn’t really forgiven himself for failing there.
Yusuke: Yusuke is ace and autistic, I will die on this hill. He doesn’t realize how things sound a lot of the time when he says something that could be taken the wrong way, and when someone points it out to him he’s usually “??? that’s ridiculous. please alter your world view to something less presumptuous.” He hyperfocuses far too easily and will forget to eat and sleep, to the point Futaba and the Thieves have alarms on their phones as a reminder to check in on him, and occasionally make sure he’d eaten that day. Futaba will hack his phone alarm, turn it all the way up, and then blare the most obnoxious music she can find to break him out of his focus.
Demyx: I have THREE DIFFERENT BACK STORIES WRITTEN FOR THIS ASSHOLE. He started off as being from Atlantica, then he was a Keykid in Anguis, then he was an upperclassmen of Xehanort and Eraqus. Right now I'm theorizing him as Yozora's Prompto that we didn't see in the Verum Rex trailer BUT WHO KNOWS. His relationship with Zexion in the Organization was mostly a series of trades, barters, bribery, and perhaps a little blackmail. Zexion was willing to let him hide from Saix or his missions in his labs - but Demyx had better have something to offer him for the invasion of space. Be it materials from off-world, retrieving something for him, or letting him run some tests on a magical theory he had, Demyx generally bribed his way into Zexion’s good graces. It’s created a bit of an awkward relationship post-3 - neither of them is sure how maintain a “normal” relationship of being friends because they’ve been cohorts at best the past several years. It’s taking some adjustment, and Demyx still tends to low-key bribe Ienzo into tolerating his presence. Ienzo doesn’t mind Demyx hanging around nearly as much as he did as Zexion, but… well he’s not one to say no to a perfectly good - and useful - bribe.

Re: your recent post on FFXIV melee daddy issues and Thancred and Fourchenault showing signs of juvenile abuse, you are not the first person I've seen with the "Louisoux was a bad dad" take, but I haven't seen anyone really dig into it yet, would you mind expanding a little on that? Also, in the case of Thancred, do you see what he went through informing his relationship with Ryne later? Idk, I've always wondered about Ryne conflating Thancred and Ranjit *together* into her Eden trauma monster.
Oh, I absolutely think that Thancred's treatment of Ryne is born from his own childhood abuse, yes. I mean, obviously his weird mourning love for Minfilia Prime was a factor, but the way he treated Ryne before her name change was really nasty.
I don't think he ever got directly violent with her, but I do think Thancred's actual understanding of where to draw the line in physical training for her was really skewed. I would not be surprised by some Bro Strider type shit where he's by all accounts doing 'okay' but my god he's nearly killing that child with a sword.
Now, obviously, training Ryne to defend herself when they're on the run from an evil empire is a Good Thing don't get me wrong, but Thancred pushed Ryne ABSURDLY hard in Shadowbringers. I forget her actual age, but she's in the 14-16 range and has Mega Trauma about older men and fighting, and Thancred was at best very cool tempered and distant towards her. There's a reason she thought he only liked her for being Minfilia rather than for being herself, after all.
Now, as for Louisoix.
The estrangement of children from their parents is usually the fault of the parent, that's how having undiluted and absolute control over a person's life for the first 16 years or so works.
So, if we start from that assumption, and ask ourselves why Fourchenault became so viciously anti-Louisoix even though he lived near enough by to be a part of the twins' lives as babies. Even though, as shown in Endwalker, Louisoix's morals and goals were pretty much in alignment with Fourchenault's own (with one glaring lunar exception).
If you live nearby your parents, you let them interact with your children, you agree with them on most major ethical issues... why would you still so violently loathe and distrust them?
Well, abuse is a very common and effectively complete answer.
Looking at the way Fourchenault treats his own children, seeing their safety as paramount over all else including their autonomy, we can conclude that his trauma centered around a similar theme. One potential explanation for that would be Louisoix was ever-present but highly neglectful and dangerous for his children, leading Fourchenault to overcompensate in the opposite direction: absenteeism and safety-obsession. Both of which are "kind hearted" enough to explain a fair bit of how Ameliance speaks about Fourchenault in spite of his everything.
Thancred, much like Fourchenault in this regard, seems to have never actually learned how to interact with other people like human beings until late in Shadowbringers. Both of them fell back on obsessively fitting themselves to particular social roles with relatively limited behaviour sets. Thancred's flirtatious slut and grizzled war veteran, Fourchenault's honour student and conservative politician.
If their home life was not conducive to learning basic emotional control, such as "not being seen as human beings ourselves but rather as little dollies for our father to LARP Mad Scientist at" that makes a lot of sense.
It's very easy to imagine Louisoix taking them on "adventures" at dangerously young ages, never being particularly concerned about the welfare of his decorative sidekicks in his pursuit of, yes helping people but also always learning things.
It would become easy to see only the selfish motivations for every action, and judge yourself and others by those motivations rather than their actions, that way. And this is a problem both Fourchenault and Thancred also struggle with. Fourchenault assuming that even his own children's desire to save the world is base egotism. Thancred assuming his desire to save a child from prison was because he's a deviant pervert who (gasp) loved a woman who looked like her. Both of them take very obviously kind, good, generous behaviours and instantly create the most disturbingly selfish reasons for them, then obsessively act defensively towards those people.
Meanwhile, they attribute kindness and gentleness to their own actions based solely on their intentions, and not what they do.
Honestly, if pre-transformation Ryne was dragged in front of the heads of state by Thancred who then dressed her down and threw her out "to save her life" I would find it eerily plausible. Thancred and Fourchenault have a surprising amount in common, and the things in common are all trauma responses lmao.
Two dudes raised by the same man a decade apart both come away with the same trauma symptoms?
Yeah, Louisoix was an abusive father, absolutely for sure. Whether he intended that harm (I would wager he did not) is rather irrelevant.

I feel like I have like. A stress hangover. Like yesterday was so immensely stressful and emotion filled and I couldn't deal with it yesterday so I just offset those feelings to today. Which kinda sucks! Esp since today I'm gonna be doing more moving stuff. I'm getting my bed, shelf, nightstand and chest into my room, and then transferring as much stuff as I can from my old room into my new room. Luckily for me they're right next to each other. Also luckily for me, the person moving into my room isn't here until Monday, so I have some time to set stuff up. My old/current room is such a mess though, partially bc I was like "what the hell is the point of cleaning if all this stuff is gonna be out of here soon" and partially because I've been so stressed I just came home and laid in bed. Last night even though they're gone I kept thinking I heard them, or heard their doors or whatever. Stress stress stress, it's weird bc it feels like a trauma response but not in a triggering to other things way. IDK if shitty roommates would be mentally boxed as a trauma but whatever. I'm not in charge of my brain.
But I think getting stuff done will make me feel better. It'll feel nice to see my new room coming together. I already set up my desk and new PC, and tested it to find out it's broken, which was kinda expected. My roommate left it under her open window during a rainstorm. She did offer to pay for it to be fixed though, I just hope it's not too expensive because I would feel really bad if she had to pay a lot. I thought I would be more mad about that than I am. It's an honest mistake and I think all my mad has been used up to direct at the shitty ex roommates. It just sucks because I wanted to start playing FFXIV with my friends and have wanted a PC for a really long time. This is my first desktop, unless you count the old days of having a "family computer" you turned on with your foot LOL.
But it's nice. The room is really big. I'll be able to do my yoga in peace without feeling cramped in my room or embarrassed in the living room. I feel safe in my apartment again. All these things are good. The new roommates are good.
But I'm gonna be busy for a few days. Thankfully after that I have surgery and will be able to just. Chill for a few weeks and take it super easy. The only obligation I'll have is healing and my two college classes, which I anticipate being pretty easy? We'll see. But I've handled worse. I can handle peace. It will be okay. I'll designate some time to be weighted blanket time.
