After watching gentleman jack i just can't go back to ships who only kiss on the mouth.. i need hand kisses, wrist kisses, shoulder kisses, neck and nape kisses. Kissing on the mouth is simply not romantic enough..

currently watching black sails xx. (3x02) and i am struck dumb. jack, anne and max… this is the steddyhands dynamic i crave.

DAMN. this is what i crave for steddyhands. the realization that this isn’t a competition because there is no winner. the long-time partner thinking all is lost, that this new shinny love interest has completely bewitched their love, and the recent lover seeing how the long-time one is such an integral part of their lover’s life that there’s no separation happening even if they tried.

and this is what the person in the middle of it all thinks about it:

because there are no sides. because if the choice is made, everyone will lose. because you can’t give up the person who knows you so profoundly, but you can’t refuse the person giving new meaning to your life.

if youre not reading the shrike series by criswritesoccasionally yet i cannot recommend it enough- its izzy-centric, steddyhands, and the current part (part 3) is doing some Excellent stuff with izzy's backstory & establishing relationships with other pirates (anne bonny, sam bellamy, etc etc)

(heads up it can be pretty heavy at times but there is also a lot of comfort)

Summary:

Bitching is one of the worst things a person can do to a fellow human being, tantamount to rape even if they don't force a mating bond while they're at it. The transition is painful, the dominance of the act humiliating, but beyond that an alpha who is forced to become an omega will almost always succumb to dysphoria and despair and, unless prevented, will take their own life.

But Izzy's always been a fucking contrarian. He's gonna be just fine.

He takes the pipe from Mary, tries to smoke it, then frowns and kicks around under his chair for the bag of dried hemp leaf they'd scored on last week's raid to pack it again. "Here, I'll solve the whole disagreement," he says, and it's Izzy's turn to snort. They all snort actually, Mary choking slightly on the smoke she's still got in her chest. Jack has never solved a disagreement in his life. Jack wouldn't be fucking caught dead solving a disagreement. "I'll prove to you, Bazzy-" "I will fucking kill you." "-that omegas are the lesser dynamic. Watch this." Ed does watch - Jack's fingers as they crush up a clump of weed and deftly tamp it down into the bowl of Mary's pipe. He has nice hands, but Ed can't imagine him trailing them over Ed's like Mary did to Anne. Ed doesn't want that though; that gentle, tender, seductive shit is not what he's after when he gets to not be top dog. Or monkey-cat, or whatever. He's just a little curious how it would feel. The backs of his own fingers tingle. Jack waits until the pipe is packed, until he's had a drag, until Izzy is blatantly growling with impatience, before he finishes his point. "You'd never want to be one." There's a long pause, and Ed switches his gaze to Izzy in surprise. Izzy never gives up, never. If Jack actually did just manage to win- But no, Izzy's jaw goes hard and he tips his chin up stubbornly. "Don't fucking see why not," he says. It could almost pass for casual if it wasn't for the way his teeth are clenched, the way his one visible set of knuckles is white over his own knee.

We all talk about the Miranda/Silver parallels, but I just rewatched 3x08 and it occurs to me that in the later seasons, there's kind of an Anne/Silver parallel as well: they're wildly different in terms of personality, but both their identities exist as an extension of another person — Anne says that when she tells someone her name, the first thing they say is Jack's; and by mid-season 3, the same is true of Long John Silver with Flint — and both are invested in Flint's war out of loyalty to the person/people they care about rather than its actual aims (Anne wants to free Jack but doesn't care about retrieving the chest of Spanish gold; Silver ends the war to keep Madi and possibly Flint, depending on your interpretation of the ending, alive). The difference is that Anne's loyalty to Jack is ultimately requited, whereas Madi and Flint both love Silver, but no amount of love is more important to them than their war.

man saves girl from something awful, takes her under his wing while simultaneously leading them both down a dark and dangerous road until she’s turned into the perfect cold blooded murderer, eventually realizing that she’s stuck in a life she didn’t choose for herself but can’t bring herself to fully abandon because she does actually love the man and they have a complicated platonic soulmate/eternal sibling bond going on where they would do anything to protect the other.

also, as someone who's super into angst, the way aromanticism is such an unspoken about/unknown thing and how that can fuck up relationships that cannot fit into allowed paradigms and struggle to otherwise engage with why they matter to one another, precisely because it matters so much. this can be relationships where one or more parties are alloromantic, or in which none of them are, but either way that pressure to conform can risk tearing them down in so many different ways, because how do you explain "this thing matters" without using the shorthands and words and relationship hierarchies and structures that are allowed. how that doubt can creep in, how those misunderstandings can occur, how that can be manipulated by others, and all the while they care so so deeply for one another. that's just really really delicious angst
