So out of curiosity, I ended up watching this movie, mainly because I heard it was so negatively received and wanted to know if it is that bad. And as it turns out I liked it. Like, I watched it like three times. I know that the CGI is bad for certain parts. However, there are spots of good CGI here and there. The action scenes were wonky and certain parts of the story could’ve been better explained. Other scenes could’ve just taken out altogether because they added nothing except to sing unnecessary praises.
The acting overall was good especially Samantha (Shakuntala) and Allu Arjun (Bharata). Dev Mohan (Dushyant) performance was cheese, but I still enjoyed it. He did give a good performance towards the end though despite the language barrier. Costumes and set designs were pretty when they wanted to be. The songs though were just *chef’s kiss* exquisite.
So yeah, is it that bad? No. Could it have been better? Yep. Did I enjoy myself? Yes!

Dushyant verma  - Worldwide, millions of people suffer from neurological illnesses that reduce their quality of life and present a challenge to the medical profession. While many neurological disorders like Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis receive a lot of attention, there are many other ailments that are less well-known and remain unrecognized.

Shakuntala (the play)
Tumblr media
Because i ended up enjoying the 2023 movie I decided to read the play that the movie was based on, specifically the edition shown above. I do know that the original story comes from the Mahabharata but the movie is adapting straight from the play, so I just went with that. And I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised at a couple of things.
The first was how short the actual play was. When I had heard that it was seven acts, I was bracing about 300 or more pages, but instead it didn't even hit the 200 mark. It's a very straight forward read that is easy to understand and digest.
The second was how horny the writing is. Now obviously they are a little bit more subtle with it in text or at the very least with my edition, but it is there, and it will slap you in the face. The text also a had a very relatable line that could be applied to modern day relationships, and I was just flabbergasted. I mean my jaw dropped after reading that line. I just love it when old texts can be easily brought to the modern day!
The play even answered a few questions that I had to myself when watching the movie. Now obviously I figured that certain elements came from the play I just wanted to know the context and why.
So, all in all. It was a nice and quick easy read. Reading the play also makes me wanna do a compare and contrast blog on the movie and play.
That could be fun.
