three ships: Steve/Loki might be my favorite ship; it’s one of very few I’ve actually written for. definitely fond of Loki/Valkyrie. and I guess I do genuinely ship Loki/Sylvie--for various reason I might’ve been happier if the show hadn’t made it explicitly romantic, but it’s a canon queer ship for my boy, and they’re both so cute, and the fanart is great, and also there’s pain, and the anti-Sylki stuff from disgruntled Lokius shippers is, uh...well, I did say their behavior would make me start genuinely shipping Sylki out of sheer spite, and here we are.

last song: apparently, “You Are The One” by A Place To Bury Strangers, because it’s in my huge playlist of completely random songs I got from completely random places

last movie: uhhhhh. I...don’t know? I mean, the last movie I saw in theaters was Birds of Prey...and the last disc I stuck in my Xbox was the show recording for Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba, which is not actually a movie (and I was only playing it because I wanted to drown out my asshole neighbors’ noise and we were close enough to our data cap that I didn’t want to stream anything)...I think it might have actually been Haywire, which was months ago, and I only watched it because I’d been vaguely interested when it came out and it was about to leave Tubi or one of the other free streaming sites. no, wait, around the end of July I watched Burrow, a short film on Disney+. and a couple weeks before that I watched Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth, a different and longer short film on Apple TV+. does that count?

currently reading: The Night Manager by John Le Carré, because I liked the show a lot (primarily for...reasons that I imagine are obvious) and had some mild fic/headcanon ideas about a specific scene, so I figured I might as well read the version that actually lays out Jonathan’s thoughts about various events to see if I’m totally off base. (verdict: nah, I was dead on about some of it, and I still had a reasonable interpretation for the part that wasn’t explicitly mentioned in the book.) in general it’s, hmm, in that genre of media that I’m pretty sure I’m too stupid to appreciate entirely because apparently I need a lot more things spelled out for me? (if the word “intrigue” shows up anywhere in a plot description, I’m probably lost. or even if it doesn’t but it could.) and of course there are various passages that make me roll my eyes about cis straight dudes, and I’m partial to the show (again for reasons that are probably obvious, but also because we don’t get Jonathan’s internal monologue in the show and sometimes he thinks some shitty straight-dude things about women), but it’s still interesting, and there’s the occasional passage that makes me sit up and go “well okay, dude can write, damn.”

currently watching: nothing, I guess. I’ve been meaning to rewatch the whole Loki show now that it’s all out, and I still need to watch the behind-the-scenes episode for it, plus several other things on Disney+ (WandaVision, TFatWS, The Mandalorian, What If I guess, behind-the-scenes stuff about Disneyland/WDW that my dad mentioned yesterday, probably other things I’m forgetting), but I don’t have Disney+ right now and I don’t want to use the 30-day code I have until I think I’ll make better use of it than I did the two months I bought. which is impossible to know because I’m just...very bad at TV, somehow. I was watching Earth At Night In Color, See, and Ted Lasso with the last few days of the free year-and-a-half Apple TV+ subscription I ended up mostly wasting...and that’s definitely not “current” because it was over a month ago. uh, I’ve also had an anon message in my askbox for a week or so recommending Crash Course Mythology’s videos on tricksters, so that’s something else I’ve been meaning to watch.

currently consuming: just ate some lasagna

currently craving: if you mean a food item, 95% of the time when I’m craving something, my brain and body very helpfully refuse to tell me what it is, and the other 5% of the time it’s something that isn’t available to me. for non-food, I don’t know, I’m always craving more Loki merch.

I was tagged by @stanfordsweater for this getting to know you game. Thanks so much for the tag! 😊💕 There’s a clean copy at the end for people who want to do this.

1. why did you choose your url?

It was already my user name on AO3 (and maybe some other sites, can't recall) and I wanted consistency across platforms (since I joined tumblr for fandom). And here's the pretentious part: if you didn't know, it's a reference to Hamlet, which is one of my favorite written works ever. Elsinore is the name of the castle where it takes place, so the prince of Elsinore is Hamlet ^^;

2. any sideblogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.

I have two, though I'm not gonna name them lol (they're not exactly secret but they're old news). When I first joined I wanted my main to be not totally fandom-dominated (whoops so much for that) so I made a side blog for my main fandom at the time (Hetalia), where I now reblog fanart every once in a blue moon. And I made another side blog for my fic. I still occasionally post on the fic blog but since my main is now basically completely spn anyway, I've just been posting my spn fic on main.

3. how long have you been on tumblr?

Since... 2012, I think? But not consistently. I hadn't used tumblr much in years before last fall and even considered deleting my blog multiple times, but spn ending (and the pandemic) brought me back stronger than ever ^^;

4. do you have a queue tag?

5. why did you start your blog in the first place?

If only I could remember... Well, it was for fandom (mostly--also some history blogging) but I don't remember the specific impetus. As mentioned my main fandom was Hetalia at the time, and within that mostly German bros stuff. I also distinctly remember lurking on a lot of Sherlock blogs prior to joining 😬(my how tastes things change)

6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?

It's a Leyendecker illustration! I love his work so so much (so many dapper men, so much homoeroticism 👌). The piece is Easter-themed and I don't actually know why I chose it. This fop is a far cry from his usual suave dudes, but idk, I guess I liked how ott and fancy it is. It also matched the old flowery aesthetic of my blog before I changed the theme.

7. why did you choose your header?

Lol ok so that's a photo I took (on my first visit maybe?) at Sans Souci palace in Potsdam, Germany. It was the residence of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, who--as anyone will know if they remember my blog days of yore--is my favorite historical figure! The glove is not mine. I found it like that :)

8. what’s your post with the most notes?

As I suspected, this one I made defending Jared's "controversial" comments post-finale. Sort of funny because I'm not even a Jared stan 🤷‍♂️

9. how many mutuals do you have?

No idea

10. how many followers do you have?

Just passed 550, which I know isn't many relatively speaking but wow I certainly never expected to see the day! I've gained about 300 followers since I started posting about spn, which utterly baffles me, but hey I'm glad if you guys are enjoying yourselves!

11. how many people do you follow?

Oh, wow, I just looked and it's over 1,000 😳 I guess b/c over the years I've gone on multiple following sprees and only unfollow if people really really annoy me or if I just get really tired of their content (I do continue to follow a lot of people who post about fandoms I'm not in). I feel like I usually see the same <50 blogs on my dash, though, so I'm guessing about 900 of the blogs I follow must be completely inactive lol.

Yes 🙃

13. how often do you use tumblr each day?

Varies. Over the past months I would check it every hour or more, felt like (not v conducive to getting work done orz). Recently (due to being away from my computer more often, now that the semester and my old job are finished) only a couple times a day, mostly at night.

14. did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? who won?

Hm, not really. Nothing more than a couple snarky or passive-aggressive asks, and not for years (aside from that anon anti hate I got sort of recently--my first ever! I would say I win that one by default, y'know, just for not being the person sending anon hate). I did get into a pretty drawn-out debate with a Dean stan about Dean's death and Jared's comments on it--see above--but I wouldn't classify it as an argument.

15. how do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?

Very Tired and skeptical

16. do you like tag games?

Yes they're great! Always make me smile (even if I don't participate I always appreciate the tag!) 😊

17. do you like ask games?

Yes, although I have to be careful about posting them because while I love getting asks in theory, getting them means I have to answer them! And I tend to be very slow at that because I want to put so much thought into it! (Send me asks any time, really! Might just take me forever to respond ^^;) ((Oh gosh this reminds me I still never finished some headcanon asks I got aaages ago. Maybe someday...))

I don't have a good sense of what constitutes tumblr famous. My fave blogs are all stars in my eyes 🤩😇

Haha no. Maybe with a few I just have a little cherished hope that they think I'm cool and smart 🥺

Had to check again because I can never remember: August 2011. Look at that. Nearly 10 years! Though I've been really active for only more than a year. The other years it was just checking on fanart from artists I was following and reblogging the odd post. Like every 5 months hahaha.

4. Do you have a queue tag?

I did for a few weeks, but it's not for me. I'll reblog en masse for an hour, or reblog nothing for a day. Always depends on what's on my dash when I'm on tumblr.

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

I don't think that I had a particular reason. My sister created her blog before me, so maybe because I wanted to know what the fuss was all about? I really can't remember otherwise. When I checked when exactly I created my blog, I saw that the posts back then were already completely random, so 🤷‍♀️

Had to check what pfp means because what? As for why, it's simply what represents what I enjoy the most. What my blog is about.

read fanfic lmao i've read uh. 3 million words of fanfic in the first 3 months of this year, and thats excluding the fics that have been deleted since i read them. i'm also writing a fanfic myself rn (its soukoku and im........ 80k words in. this is chapter 2), but i dont usually have much inspiration for writing and i get nervous about characterization. I don't create fanart of video edits because i am visually untalented <3

Tiny funky elf princess trying her best to rule elf kingdom. HJKA there’s more, I’m lazy but not that lazy. She’s the descendent of essentially a mortal god, more than likely acting as an avatar of sorts to the goddess Hylia, as such she’s gifted with fantastical abilities that’s been passed down her family for generations and she intends to use these powers to protect her kingdom that’s still on the road of recovery, as the sole survivor from Agahnim’s destruction upon Hyrule and thus sole scion she’s left picking up the small fragments from the tragedy that occurred ages ago where the Hero of Time had fallen. But here’s the downside to these powers: she was born with a very weak body and poor health as such she can’t utilize the abilities she has from her bloodline aside from a few powers without affecting her low stamina issues. Namely telepathy, clairvoyance, healing, sealing things away, creating barriers, and connection with the spirit realm. As such, she tends to rely on the wisdom given to her by her naturally bright mind and enhanced by the mythical object known as the Triforce of Wisdom. Surprisingly, she can be cunning despite her soft-hearted nature and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her kingdom and people she loves, her silent determination more than makes up for the lack of powers she may have. That in mind, she’s often the target of more nefarious plans that means the downfall of her kingdom. She may not have the amazing light magic spells her ancestors did to prevent darkness from taking over but that doesn’t mean her magic isn’t any less potent, she just can’t tap into it. She’s an easy target for enemies that wish to use her sacred powers to revive the dead Ganon or break pass whatever powerful barrier or seal that’s in place.

Her future is pretty grim as well, considering she has a shorter life span. But it’s fine, things are fine she may have a gloomy outlook on certain things but that doesn’t stop her from living life!! Despite how sour this may all seem Zelda is still that encouraging young woman whose kindness defines her, she’s playfully innocent around friends and enjoys exploring old places of decay that’s rich with history! She tends to bottle up her more negative aspects to not worry others since she’s the pillar of an entire ass nation, she needs to maintain her placid demeanor as a means to calm and soothe others around her. Because the truth of the matter is that the events of ALTTP (before the game where harsh plagues among other things happened before Agahnim arrived to fix everything as well as after the events of the game) and OoX, instances where she’s witnessed death of loved ones, the downfall of her kingdom, and coming across death herself has affected her greatly. She suffers from grief and depression that needs to be addressed but... ;v;

BECAUSE I STARTED OUT WITH HILDA BEFORE DECIDING TO GO WITH SKY ZELDA BECAUSE I WANTED TO DO A MORE OUTGOING MUSE and then I opened up a sideblog for this Zelda out of whim. There’s no reason why I choose the most obscure Zelda, I just did it because I thought it’d be fun. I did not expect this much characterization for someone like her ngl. I guess what keeps me going is the fact that she’s a fun character to write for!

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING? HA!!! NOTHING!!! Mental illness is a bitch, I will have my down... weeks. Not days, literal weeks or months depending on how long my episodes last. It sucks, and I try to work around it but there’s not much I can do. That said, inspiration depends on motivation and want to write. As well as focus because god knows I have so little of that.

this is in response to this ask btw.

the prompt itself is over [here]. putting this under a cut bc its a little long.

and yeah the past week or so i’ve been orbiting 450 so that’s pretty neat. thanks y’all for being here for uhhhhh whatever’s going on here. i mean, i think it’s worth noting that fanfiction doesn’t tend to circulate like fanart does since it’s like, more of a time commitment and this is a social media platform and all, and besides that tf2 already has a pretty small content-creator side of the fandom, proportionally and also in general. like, it happens, no judgement here, y'all valid

and, ok originally my response about the ko-fi thing specifically was like unnecessarily long and detailed bc i wrote it out in like one sitting then came back to glance it over in the morning, but i’m gonna slim it down since nobody’s got time for that nonsense. the long and short of it is that making a ko-fi is something ive been considering on and off for a while, alongside thinking about taking commissions. but my issue with that is mostly the legality surrounding money in exchange for fanfiction, i guess, and that i feel a little weird about accepting money from people who read what is, for all intents and purposes, a low-stakes and therapeutic form of writing practice and self-expression from me. i’m not against the idea of opening up a ko-fi—i think i’ll put it as some arbitrary number, like, at 500 followers or whatever, or maybe if my financial situation gets more rocky, i’ll look more seriously at it—but… y’know. maybe it’s a self-doubt thing, who knows. something to bring up in therapy i guess.

and if i do get a ko-fi or something, i think i’d still absolutely be taking requests. the only time i ever really get swamped with them in any capacity is the day or two following when i reblog one of those prompt lists or something, and in the mean time the occasional one or two give me something to do during my 4am “oh i’m not getting any goddamn sleep tonight am i” moments or like, when i’m stuck in a waiting room or whatever. they help me cool down between whatever the project of the month is, writing or revising.

hopefully that’s, like, a comprehensive answer. and like, i really don’t put a ton of value into like “internet clout” or ~whatever~, but i do value and appreciate all you folks who just, y’know, leave a kudos or a comment on AO3, or like or reblog or reply my stuff on tumblr, stuff like that. it’s always nice to hear what people vibe with, and what jokes people pick up on, and what characters they’re hyped about. makes my day. like, every time i just get a string of notifications from someone scrolling through and reading and liking the fic in my fanfiction tag, that’s always a fun thing to see happening. and like there’s some people who really are just sorta regulars at this weird little tavern i’ve got goin on and y’know what, i see you. i see you man, you’re rad. we vibin. and like i wanted to reiterate based on a thing someone talked to me abt at some point not long ago that like i’m literally just over here chillin, like, seriously no need to feel intimidated by me, i’m a total nerd and really really hard to upset or offend. there’s no dumb questions, feel? like cringe culture is dead dude i’m serious. and anon is always on and i’m wicked stupid, like, you’re so set literally don’t worry. you can send me like 87 shrimp emojis and i’ll probably reply with something dumb like “mood” like that’s it. you could send me 87 shrimp and tag on at the end “(hey by the way don’t reply to this just givin you some shrimp)” and i’d be like “that’s valid i vibe with that” and just like. think about it at 2am two months later and be delighted all over again

1. Why do you write? (ie; what’s your motivation?)

Hmm, probably because I really love to create in as many forms as possible, and writing is a pretty unique form of creating because everyone who reads what I write is going to leave with a different image of a world I was able to create… I dunno I just think it’s neat.

2. Who, of your characters would you want to spend a day with?

Hmmm, I’m gonna do this by universe I think…

ToA fics: Krel, duh. He’s my boy and maybe he could actually teach me how to math.

Real Magic: This one is tough because they’re all my babies but probably Traavohn, he’s fun and an all around good dude.

Valkyrie: Lykke, probably, I adore him and he both could and would take me flying.

Parallax: Mahhi, probably, because they’re a good kid and I want to hug them to death. Also they, too, might be able to teach me how to math.

3. What’s your favorite part of writing?

Worldbuilding and dialogue. Worldbuilding is just so cool, to start with nothing and build up an entire world. It’s so much fun. And dialogue is also very fun, I love seeing characters interact and take on a life of their own.

4. What is one genre and/or trope you despise writing?

Political drama, probably. Like, anything where I have to know shit about politics. In other words, the current book in RM that I’m working on. My own fault.

5. Who are your biggest influences?

Oh, that’s a hard one… I’m not sure, but everything I’ve read and watched has shaped me as a writer, being in a “I hate that and will not write like that” or a “I love that and will try to emulate some of it” kind of way.

6. If your work got a film deal- Animated or Live action?

Animated!! Animation allows for all sorts of unique story-telling devices that live action doesn’t, and there’s so much love put into it… also then I don’t have to worry finding someone who can both act and looks like my characters, and, quite frankly, there’d be a lot of CGI anyway in most of what I write so why not go all out?

7. Are you more of an outline person or write-as-you go person?

I absolutely have to have an outline because if I don’t then weird shit happens like, I dunno, dinosaurs (I’m not kidding). Now, do my characters always listen to the outline? Absolutely not, but I have to have one.

8. What’s the most emotional thing you’ve ever written?

Oof, um… I’ve written a lot of rough scenes, and I’m not sure which I’d call the most emotional. The most emotional thing in the past few months has definitely been a concept scene from Legacies that I hope will rip your hearts out 🙂

9. Would you want to live in the world(s) of your story?

I’d totally live in my ToA fics because, duh, trolls and aliens and wizards and it’s cool. I’d totally live in RM because I modelled elven society almost exactly how I wish society could be so duh. I’d live in the Valkyrie universe as long as I’m not stuck in Kris’s position, I don’t need that kind of responsibility. I’d live in the Parallax universe because, duh, aliens.

10. (and, because I’ve seen most do this)- Any goals for your WIP?

Legacies: Finish and post it? And hopefully get y’all attached and make you cry.

Space Rogues and Morando AU: Finish and post, also.

Real Magic: My New Year’s Resolution was to finish the new covers and get all three books published (right now only two are out) – also my goal for it is that one day people will love it enough to write fanfiction or draw fanart.

Valkyrie: Get it picked up and actually made into a show, and from there I hope people will love it enough to write fics or make art.

Men going full shocked Pikachu face when little girls who grow up on fairy tales turn into women who want to see romance in the stories they consume will never cease to incense me. That's not even adding in the patronizing addition of telling other women to respect a woman's character or agency, as if we don't get the importance of it. Metaphorical pats on the head just make me want to see even more sloppy kissing on my screen.

We don’t just want to see romance in the stories we consume, we’re adults who are perfectly in control of the way we consume fiction. We know EXACTLY what we’re doing, and we’re having FUN with it. We’re expressing our creativity, our enthusiasm, we’re employing our vast cultural baggage in a way that gratifies us, and we do it knowing fully well that this is fictional. We don’t need to be condescended to, treated as if our brains could go haywire if we’re not reminded every fucking day that toxic relationships are toxic and female characters should be more than love interests.

It’s incredibly frustrating to watch someone who seemed to have a decent grasp on the pivotal role romance is playing in this trilogy, the yin/yang dynamic, the balance, Joseph Campbell etc., do this U turn and regurgitate this sort of stale concern-trolling while also acting like he’s singlehandedly responsible of leading us astray with his “clever” theories and there haven’t been a gazillion of EXCELLENT female meta writers before, during and after he became a voice in the fandom.

Seriously, the arrogance though. I appreciate the honesty of being like, “look, I know many of you follow me for a reason, but in the past few months I’ve reconsidered my theories and changed my mind on some stuff, so I’m warning you in advance that this channel might no longer offer the sort of content you came for”. But there were a million ways to do that without sounding like a paternalistic asshat with a holier than thou attitude and an over inflated notion of his own impact on the reylo fandom. Dude, you didn’t create Reylo meta, we did. We started the day after TFA was released, here, on Tumblr, via posts and gifsets and long form essays and shitposts and answered asks and tag rants and fanart and fanfic and podcasts. You’re just a youtuber.

I don’t get why people have started complaining about likes being an insult, and interpreting it as meaning ‘i enjoyed this but wont share it cause fuck you’. I’ve sure as hell never met anyone who uses likes for that. There’s been plenty of times where I’ve liked a post of someones art/writing/music/whatever and not reblogged it, and while I understand being frustrated by a lack of reblogs, seriously, you gotta stop assuming every single person uses the like feature the same way. I’ve actually seen some people saying that the like feature should be removed, so that people are forced to reblog artists instead of just liking, which is completely ridiculous to me cause buddy. my guy. my dude. If I liked your post and didn’t reblog it straight away, then there was never any chance of me hitting reblog to begin with.

Occasionally it just means that I enjoyed the post but it’s the sort of thing I don’t want to publicly admit to enjoying, because tumblr is a cruel mistress and my anxiety acts up sometimes. But 95% of the time if I liked your art/video/writing and didn’t reblog it, that means I haven’t actually seen it yet. It’s because I enjoyed the first two paragraphs of this fic but I’ve got to run for the bus right now, so I’ll read the rest of it once I’ve got the time. It’s because the tags and description on this picture sound interesting but tumblr mobile refuses to load it, so I’ll just wait until I get to my laptop. It’s because I’m curious about this video but I don’t have my earbuds on me, so I’ll watch it when I’ve got audio.

So no, I’m not going to reblog those posts yet, because I have no idea if I actually want them on my blog. That fic might go in a direction I don’t like, or that picture will turn out to be fanart for something I have zero interest in, or the video’s sound wasn’t at all what I was expecting. Again, tumblr is a cruel mistress and I have anxiety; I’m not putting something on my blog unless I know for sure that I want it there. Once I actually know what’s in a post I’ve liked, I’ll reblog it and remove the like if I enjoyed it, leave it as is if I enjoyed it but don’t feel comfortable sharing it, or just remove the like if it turned out to be not my thing. And because my brain is an ADHD hellpit, it can take weeks or months for me to get around to looking at a post I’ve liked. But there’s at least a chance I’ll be sharing it eventually, which is considerably more than you’d get if I didn’t have the option to like a post.

I get being frustrated about a small audience, and bothered that the people that enjoy your work aren’t sharing it with other people. But seriously, grow a thicker skin. There’s a reason I’ve only seen artists complaining about this, and it’s because us writers have long since realized that’s just how the internet is. Yeah, the best kinds of positive feedback are the rarest, but that’s life. If you interpret the low effort positive responses as being an insult, then you’ll never. People aren’t refusing to reblog your art out of spite or hatred, they’re clicking like because they liked your goddamn art.

I sort of started spamming pictures to answer a question so I’m gonna... put the pictures under the cut.

1. Have any of your OCs ever stolen something? What did they steal, and why? Oh yeah sure - the first one I can think of easily is Cain. He used to live on the streets so had to steal to survive. But he’d also work for money. He’s not heartless, just desperate.

Also now I’m thinking about it, Tag would definitely be the kind of guy to just... hey I know I’m meant to hand this gear in but... no-one will miss it so.... he steals to amuse himself with the gadgets he gets.

2. Did you ever have imaginary friends as a kid? What were they like? I copied my sister in having pretend animal friends, but not really. Who needs imaginary friends when you have real-life ones lol I was a lot more liked as a kid.

3. Do any of your OCs have a favorite article of clothing? Why is it their favorite?

Uhhhh

Um.

Yeah, you could say that.

Andy likes his hoodie because it’s a thing that is only his. He didn’t get it from Murdock, I honestly don’t know WHERE he got it from, but it’s his, and the fact he owns anything means a lot to him.

Cain likes his because it’s one of the few things left over from when he was younger and again, it’s his. He didn’t steal it. It belongs to Only Him. He feels comfortable in it.

4. What do you fist develop about a character when you make one up? Do you think of their appearance first? Their personality? Their backstory?

Honestly? It depends. Backstory always comes after, but personality and appearance often intersect. I know for WIP 3 I thought of personality and traits first, and for Collateral it was appearance first. I think for Sonder it was more.. their role in the story? ‘Oh hey this is the antagonist, this is the protagonist, this is the love interest wait I hate romance, okay, side kick’ etc

5. Fluff or Angst?

If it’s not romantic? Fluff. I made myself angsty enough when I was younger, I want more happiness in my life.

6. Remember the color of that dress that everyone was debating about however many years ago? The one that was blue and black, or white and gold? What colors did you see?

7. Pick your bubbliest, happiest OC. Now tell me what will make them turn into your worst nightmare. I wanna see what makes them the angriest.

Oh boy, let’s see uhhh... Tag. Tag from WIP 3 who is undergoing the process of a name change.

Seeing someone he loves die would twist him. Being isolated would eventually break him. Being unable to do what he loves would definitely upset him also.

Also idk if you’ve heard about it but in his world, there’s a nifty ability called being a silvertongue and I know at least one silvertongue is not gonna exploit this but I also know of another who would even on this19-year-old kid so maybe it’s not by choice but that could make him a nightmare. Just sayin’

8. Now pick your angstiest, most emo OC. And tell me what would make them blush and giggle like an idiot. I wanna see what makes them the happiest.

Okay for this one it’s a tie I write a lot of angsty characters.

Fruit! It is! Very good! And tasty! Apples have a good cronch! Oranges are mmmm juicy. Banana? Yes nice thank you. Oh wow we have strawberries? What a sweet treat. Also healthy!

11. Do any of your OCs have scars? Would they be confident enough to show them in public (like at the beach)?

Oh yeah sure man. Andy’s got multiple from... ‘training’. He doesn't show them off. Cain, Duck and Theo have all been badly burnt on the arms, and Cain ‘’shows it off’’ just because it makes him uncomfortable to have his arms covered. And uh Raya probably has some sort of scar on her knees or elbow from rollerblading. Because you do fall over and it does scar.

And now for Hyba’s questions, lez go bois

1. What cultural value do you see in writing/reading/storytelling/etc.?

I think that without storytelling specifically, humans would be so... mundane? We’d be no different to any other animal on the planet. Creating anything, be that stories or art or literally anything is so... human. To take that away would be like taking away humanities soul. The cultural value isn’t really measurable - storytelling makes up the culture.

2. Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

Honestly, I have no idea. I try to entertain myself, and if other people like it too, then that’s neat. But because I’m writing for myself, I anticipate everything, so I don’t know if it’s original or not. I know it delivers what I want! But is that readers want? Who knows!

3. As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

Crow. Not even as a writer, just... dude crows are so damn cool.

4. What do you think most characterizes your writing?

I’m not quite sure about the phrasing so uhhhh represents? Google is telling me ‘describes’.

In which case, a midnight fever jolting you out of bed, moments before you could fall asleep, and puppeting you to a writing surface so you can splurge ideas onto it sounds about right. 66% of my WIPs have elements in them that were based on dreams.

5. How do you select the names of your characters?

Mostly? Spite. ‘Oh Trade, you can’t have a bad guy named Andy, all Andy’s are good’ NOPE NOT ANYMORE SUCK IT. I also have a friend who is really good at coming up with names that fit the exact mood of the character so I go to her a lot. Sometimes they’re puns.

6. Choose one of your OCs (or more). How would they want to be seen by others?

Sam from Sonder wants to be seen as someone people can talk to, but also someone who pursues a science because yes sociology is a science to her, shut up, don’t talk to me if you’re going to mention the words ‘paradigm’ or ‘objective’ thank you.

7. How do you find or make time to write? Are you consistent or do you write whenever you get the chance?

Hahahahahhahha.

In the past few months, I’ve not been writing because I’ve had exams. Before that, I wrote at every chance I had - being a student, I had a fair bit of free time during the day, so I’d use that to write. But for a while, it was a nothing on the ‘what has Trade written recently’ chart.

8. What does literary success look like to you? Is it important for you as a writer?

Literary success? That’s... a very interesting question. I think I’d be satisfied and feel successful if one person told me that my book helped them through something.

Jokes on me, I’ve already had that, my books helped me, I have already succeeded, see you losers in hell.

Also fanart but uh who needs fanart when you draw enough for five armies?

9. Are there any scenes that you’ve had to edit out of your WIPs? Can you tell us about them if they don’t spoil the book?

YES oh lord yes okay so in Sonder, chapter 15, I decided around draft 2 that I wanted a scene where Atlas got drunk. I made up reasons for it, asked lots of friends about what it was like to be drunk (as I personally have never been drunk), attended parties to get first-hand research and did so much preparation.

Wrote the scene, was pleased with it, left it to fester. Two years and two drafts later (now), I’ve come back and realised oh hey that scene is utterly useless and de-rails the plot. Time to remove it I guess.

I rationalise it as ‘well you wrote it and you had fun but it’s not needed, move on’ and that works well for me.

10. Would you feel comfortable publishing or sharing your writing using your real name, or would you prefer a pseudonym?

Pseudonym 100%. As cool as it would be to be able to go ‘hey I wrote this’ to people, the terrifying ordeal of being known is horrific, and people being able to track all my past activity from when I was literally seven is my worst nightmare. I wouldn’t even tell family or friends if I could get away with it.

‘Hey [real name], there’s a book at Waterstones called Sonder? With the exact same characters, plot and writing style as you have? But it’s under [pseudonym]?’ ‘oh hey, really that’s wild. Anyway,’

11. When writing, do you try more to be original or do you prefer to deliver to readers what they want? Do you think that a book can do both? Which is more important to you as a writer?

Oh hey, this is like question two but MORE. Standing by my previous answer, I think a book can do both - people want a happy ending, usually, but you can always be original in how you do that. No two stories can be told in exactly the same way. And hey - even if people do guess what’s coming up, that’s good.

As a writer? It’s most important to entertain. I don’t try and catch people out, I just deliver the story I have in my head and then edit it mercilessly until I’m pleased.

Question! So I’ve noticed that you and a lot of others have been saying stuff about the months leading up to TLJ. I wasn’t into Star Wars at that time, so I was just wondering, what was it like? Was there a lot of content being released, was there a lot of crazy speculation and such? Was there a lot of reylo content in promos and pictures and such?

Hey Nonnie,

And for anyone who’s reading who remembers, this is going to be long, and I’m going to miss things (I’m certain I missed some gates) because I’m just going from memory and old posts from when I wasn’t as militant about tagging (hah), so feel free to chime in if you have any other memories. Also, this took forever to compile lol.

Unofficially, we had shots from Ireland (2016) and second-hand gossip from locals about Daisy, Mark, and Adam filming in Ireland (and lots of people screeching about how the only reason KR would be with those two would be so they could team up and murder them).

But then the conversation started to shift, and we got info that wasn’t from the reylo fandom regarding their “interesting relationship,” though we were always there, saying the exact same thing.

This podcast and breakdown in the comments from May 2016 really highlights when things started to shift for our space kids (and confirmed a lot about what people had been theorizing/writing meta about, etc). We weren’t pulling things out of our asses and we were not wrong for seeing what we were seeing. It’s also a really great snapshot of what the discussion on Tumblr was like back then. Lots of great minds and fun times, as far as I am concerned.

“But I mean like, right now, Rey’s story is kinda weird too. It’s like I don’t know where my mum lives, I wish my mum and dad would come get me on Jakku, oh, I’ve got the force? Oh Luke Skywalker, he’s here? Wow. And then, so, at some point, Kylo Ren and Rey gotta have something more going down. I don’t know if it’s romance, if it’s complete hatred, if it’s you know, but, erm…I know, we can’t talk about it, there’s certain things we’ve heard �� and it’s not romance, it’s not romance, but there’s certain things that we’ve heard recently about what’s going down and what Rey, how Rey feels –“

“Yeah, let’s just leave it at that.”

And then there was a very long wait for 2017, when things started to shift even more.

It was pretty much radio silence concerning Kylo Ren (officially) right up until the second trailer (the first only showed him for a split second). Boxartgate happened earlier in the year. (February) when the marketing started to come out for TLJ and Kylo wasn’t on any of it (nevermind that only his mask was on the TFA packaging, but when you’re grasping at straws for reasons why the “Skywalker of the trilogy” isn’t important... I guess you’ll take what you can get).The Reylo fandom guessed (correctly) that he was basically a walking spoiler (which other sections of the fandom guessed, incorrectly, that he was irrelevant to the story and that’s why he wasn’t showing up much N O P E).

SW Celebration happened in April 2016, and that trailer, combined with the super, SUPER amazing poster dropped:

Oh and Eric Maell’s super Reylo-tastic, officially licensed SWC poster that was available for sale at SWC (yeah, we all lost it here too). The whole thread is funny and read through to where Eric’s signature pops up on the poster.

And then we collectively lost our damn minds when the trailer dropped in October. If you’d like a trip, head into my archive and look for like October 2017 and you’ll get a pretty good idea of what that looked like lol.

It’s so damn good, I just watched it again and it STILL brings tears to my eyes. Avoid the comment section LOL.

And then came the: “It’S NOT KYLO’S HAND, IT’S HU//X’S FI//NN’S LU//KE’S ANYONE BUT KYLO REACHING OUT TO HER.” SNOKE ISn’T TALKING ABOUT KYLO. (handgate)

As if we, a collective group of Adam stans, WOULD EVER mistake his hand for another. GET GOOD, Anne.

HE’S NOT LOOKING AT REY. HE’S LOOKING AT.... fill in the blank. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA No. We know what he looks like when he looks at Rey.

Like, I didn’t spend 2 fucking years staring at screen shots like a maniac to NOT be able to see things for what they really are. I mean, the look he gives her when she pulls that saber from the ground on Starkiller? I WISH I could find a gif because it’s classic, “Holy shit, I think I’m in love, but I’m pretty sure she wants to murder me.” HAH Oh Enemies to Lovers, you’re such a riot.

But up until that point there was NOTHING. I’m pretty sure box gate happened somewhere in there, but then the marketing really started getting going and we got fed so fucking well it was almost too much because we’d had so little to go on up until that point that it was just like, “Is this real life? Am I making too much of this? Or are they really playing up the Kylo Ren/Rey angle in this marketing?”

October 31, 2017, we got this GREAT article from V where Adam interviewed Daisy.

AD Is there an aspect of working on Star Wars—it could be anything from the light saber battles, the travel, the catering, to getting to see me every day and do my hair—that was your favorite part?

DR I don’t know if I’ve ever properly thought about it. I love coming into the makeup trailer—everyone is there, you say good morning, and you get a little cuddle from people...I just really liked being part of something where you’re one of a whole. When filming, you’re always part of a thing. Becoming besties with you was the best thing.

AD That’s a lie, but we will make sure that’s printed.

DR [laughs]

The whole interview is really sweet and a really lovely read. Also, got some really adorable fanart of Rey doing Kylo’s hair around that time, which was super awesome.

There was some drama about Rian saying there’s “no romance in EPIX” which obviously wasn’t the case and he was misquoted anyways. Which is a good reminder not to freak the fuck out over everything, just because it seems like it’s going one way (or someone’s pushing their own thoughts and opinions onto paper in an interview). At any rate, Rian’s a big ole Romantic, so we know how it all goes in TLJ. (Romancegate)

This article talking about “the fallen son” and whether Kylo could be redeemed came out in Nov 2017 (which was LOL considering how much of the general fandom had convinced themselves this movie would be about Rey hunting down and murdering Kylo), which had this super quote from Rian:

“But I don’t think it’s very interesting if the whole story is just ‘Will Kylo get his comeuppance?’ He’s a more complicated character than that and I think he deserves a more complicated story than that. I don’t see the point of trying to get behind his mask and learn more about him if all we’re going to learn is ‘Yeah, he’s just an evil bad guy that needs to be killed.’” -Rian Johnson

This amazing character flowchart that was marketed in Korea to show the relationships in Star Wars (it’s official, and if you’re at all familiar with kdrama’s, you’ll probably understand why half of the fandom lost their shit lol).

This post/podcast from the starwarsconnection also has a pretty great breakdown of what was going on at the time and also shows some of the kid’s toys (specifically, the Reylo dolls that were sold as a set, though there are a FEW sets of Reylo figures, this one was specifically marketed to girls as a part of the Forces of Destiny series, which I really miss).

I’m sure there’s more, but basically the movie came out and the rest is history haha. This article talking about how horny TLJ is still makes me laugh.

1. Kylo Ren takes his shirt offLike I wasn’t going to start with this? Adam Driver as Kylo Ren gamely serves up the most Star Wars beefcake since Luke went sleeveless on Dagobah, and even Rey is rattled. She forgot to force-knock before barging in on the dude, and here’s Kylo Ren alone in his room, stripped to the waist, boasting sweaty pecs that look like he sliced Alderaan in half and glued the remainders to his chest. It’s a lot! Finally, even people who don’t subscribe to HBO can wonder, “Shit, am I attracted to Adam Driver?”

2. Kylo and Rey’s whole thingMany weirdos shipped these two characters after The Force Awakens, and now I kinda get it. Kylo and Rey never make out, but they still share The Last Jedi’s sexiest scenes as well as a telepathic connection fostered by sinister voyeur Snoke, the galaxy’s mightiest cuck.
