Hi! Does Alya really assume the worst of Mari in this particular chapter (like, quite often yes, she does, but in this case)? Or is it Marinette's interpreting it like that? P. S. Love your work!

A bit of both! Alya doesn't naturally think the worst of her, but Lila is good at manipulating her and the class into assuming Marinette is "messing up" pretty frequently, and Marinette's pessimistic attitude due to trauma means every time no one stands up for her against Lila, it just proves her own insecurities right and she considers it fact. When Alya jumped into lecture mode, it came from a genuine place of worry - but lecturing someone who already thinks you hate them won't lead to any good conclusion, just further hostilities, or putting her on the defensive.

While Marinette's feelings are valid, they're not 100% rational, but no one's proven her WRONG yet, since Lila plays the part of cuckoo so well. If Alya thought the worst of Marinette, she wouldn't have come to her for help during her argument with Lila - but as you'll see in the next update, Alya and Marinette had a blowup argument in the past that was pretty messy on both sides, leading to this cold attitude from Marinette.

Not surprised since this is the site that only talks about racism and thinks it’s a big deal when they see it demonstrated in the cartoons and comics they like *coughs* dungeonmeshi *coughs* (for example at least. I haven’t seen THIS many white ppl talk as in depth about racism on here as much as these fandom nerds, man. I stg. Like “Ohhhh, so you all DO acknowledge that racism is real? Just not in real life even if you could feel it slapping you in the face at high speed. Gotcha.” It’s crazy.

Tumblr is like, 90% white and is extremely centered around them. That’s why you barely see stuff that’s important to black and brown people ever trending here or being talked about. It has to be something incredibly huge to the point where even white people can’t ignore it like they usually do, to talk about it here.

They only talked about George Floyd here because the topic of his death became world news. Even people in other countries were talking about it. Before him, it was probably Ferguson and Trayvon Martin… most of them are still trying their best to ignore the genocides because it’s a “touchy subject.” What do you expect from white people who live in their own bubbles of comfort and refuse to pop it with a needle??? They find comfort in their privilege and faux ignorance (they love playing stupid to avoid conversations about important things outside of fandoms like, are these mfs born with half a brain dedicated to fandom or what.) That’s literally all these mfs make a big deal out of, especially on this annoying ass platform. The ao3 mfs will go to war for the site that allows racist ff and cp like it’s no big deal. I wonder how many people here even donated to the site while actively scrolling past dono posts from folks who really do need help. They act like they’re doing a civil service by defending this site that makes over the amount of it’s intended dono goal in minutes.

Then you already know as soon as you even bring up racism in the stuff they like, they start ganging up and harassing black bloggers especially, calling them TERFs and the whole nine. Anything to make that person look bad for being concerned about the racism that they have such an intense aversion to. God, it’s absolutely exhausting knowing that these people would have no problem choosing a cartoon character over your entire existence if they COULD. Isn’t that fucking sad, man?

I highly recommend @novorehere as they're a big staple in the community and great for finding other creators too! I dont know them personally but they always have something nice to say when i see them pop up and they seem like a real sweetheart. @stomach-rental draws some really great stuff!! they do g/t stuff exclusively from what ive seen (correct me if i'm wrong) and its always such a delight. I Big recommend looking into their art for GiD. and reading the original story if you get the chance. Fantastic conent (written by @peachnewt in case you wanna go check it out)

@ant-noms draws and writes some really good stuff!! G/t and slightly bigger but i dont think they do full on same size? could be wrong again. They do marvel stuff, mostly ant man of course. Typically I'm not into the super hero stuff but honestly the way they write and draw and their scenarios are so fucking good!

Wondering if Messmer was just the only one to help/sympathize with Marika on the shattering of the elden ring. His relation to snakes, fire, etc, could just be that he turned himself into a living weapon taking parts of all of the enemies of the Erd Tree he could find. Momma's boy headcanon tbh.

could you elaborate on vergil and medieval wizard legends from your tags to the christian vergil reception post? :o

i am probably not the best person to do so since i'm not at all familiar with the actual medieval legends and texts, but my understanding is that these legends of vergil being a wizard or a magician probably grew out of the idea that he predicted the birth of jesus in eclogue 4-- once there was the established idea that vergil had prophetic powers and also was not entirely pagan and thus a safe(r) figure for later christians to play with, a whole set of other legends grew up around him, apparently entirely divorced from the actual written works of his that survived.

as a magical figure, he gets particularly associated with the city of naples, which i think is where a lot of these traditions originated. they seem to be set in a sort of historically-nonspecific fairy-tale roman empire that maps on to the contemporary medieval italian landscape. for example, castel dell'ovo is called that because of a legend that vergil buried a magical egg in the foundations of the castle. there are also stories about his love life, his interactions with the emperor, and his magical revenge on those who wrong him-- actually a pretty standard set of folktale elements and motifs, with nothing that particularly points to vergil as a writer or any of his texts.

but christian readings of eclogue 4 opened the door to this idea of vergil as a proto-christian prophet, so by the medieval period he transforms into this folk hero magician with little resemblance to what we know of the historical vergil or his work, a folk hero who probably circulates mostly among people who had no familiarity with ancient literature. and then that folk hero who developed out of the author vergil in turn influences the way people read his work.

do you use procreate? if so, what brush do you use?

i do not use procreate...

most of my art is made w a standard binary brush (so just your typical pen brush with anti-aliasing turned off) but a google search makes it seem that procreate doesn't let you turn anti-aliasing off? sounds like a pain... probably why you were asking, but i'm afraid i couldn't find any alternatives for that on procreate :(

in general i'm just a really low-tech artist... fancy programs and fancy pen stuff just makes my head hurt... i do use airbrushes for gradients and little texture brushes for special effects but that's pretty much it

y'know, i keep making a habit of swinging my bat at hornets nests, but i have to say i'm getting so, so tired of people complaining about shows not making perfect sense when they aren't even close to done. we're four episodes into this season of doctor who. we're four episodes into this season of bridgerton. and yet in both fandoms i keep seeing people whine that such and such didn't make sense or it wasn't explained all the way and by god you guys i think maybe explanations might come later in the season. this is something most viewers will recognize as being called a 'plot.'
