Dorm Cooking with a Persian Twist

As a first generation Iranian-American, Persian cuisine has been a staple in my household all of my life. From daily meals, to Friday night dinners with the whole family, to any and every holiday or special occasion, Persian food always makes an appearance. Since the age of around 10 I have taken every chance to watch and learn from my grandmother while she would spend hours preparing meals for the family. I am proud to say, she thinks my cooking is up to par.

Food is an integral part of Persian culture. To me, Persian culture is all about family and community, and cooking is an awesome way to bring people together, form connections, and make memories. Some of my fondest memories are sitting around a table eating a home cooked meal with family.

Since coming to Penn, I have been eager to share my Persian roots. I am so excited and proud to have been able to share my favorite part of Persian culture through a dorm cooked Persian meal. It made me so proud to see the the smiles around the table as my friends tried my food. I was really pleasantly surprised that they were asking questions about each dish, Persian cooking, and even Persian culture as a whole. It was awesome to lean how open minded others can be about learning about other cultures. Even with the limited ingredients and cooking space, and the fact that a true Persian meal is cooked over an entire day, I am really looking forward to sharing my Persian cooking on a more regular basis.

On the menu:

khoresht-e ghormeh sabzi (خورش قورمه‌سبزی‎), thadig (دیگ), and salad-e Shirazi (شیرازی). My personal all time favorites. Khoresht-e ghormeh sabzi is a popular Persian stew, made with herbs, meat, and kidney beans. Thadig is arguably one of the best dishes ever created. Thadig, or crispy rice, is made my frying the thin layer of rice that sits at the bottom of the pot. Finally, salad-e Shirazi is a cucumber and tomato salad dressed with lemon, oil, salt, pepper, and herbs.

Ingredients - Khoresht-e Ghormeh Sabzi (خورش قورمه‌سبزی‎):

Parsley (جعفری)

Cilantro (گشنی)

Spinach (اسفناج)

Fenugreek (شنبلیل)

Onion (پیاز)

Kidney Beans (لوبیا)

Beef (گوشت)

Lemon (لیمو)

Salt (نمک)

Turmeric (زردچوبه)

Ingredients - Tahdig (دیگ):

Rice (چلو)

Yogurt (ماست)

Salt (نمک)

Turmeric (زردچوبه)

So i simply adore NoMaidHairMod from @rio-sims it’s something i’ve wanted for ages, to remove those Maxis hairs from my game. Rio also made a great tutorial on how to do it yourself, so that’s what i did.

Downloads Part:

Same as Rio’s mod those NPC’s will now spawn with random hair or use any hair you manually pick for them. No previews, cos i’m lazy and well the point is that it’s all random :D

Delivery: Grocery, Mail, Paper. Gardener. Exterminator. Diva. DormCook.

And there’s two additional options that will also randomize clothing (or allow you to set whatever you like, which is why i did it personally).

Bus Driver (Carpool for work and school bus)

Burglar (Also removed their hair-hat, so they should now look like normal sims. Haven’t tested yet,though, as idk how to force burglary :D But it should work)

Ok, here’s second preview, random driver clothes. (Also, have you ever noticed how they have this creepy smile when driving school bus? :DDD)

Tutorial Part:

As i was having some trouble with getting those files to work right i contacted Rio and asked for help and kept trying and failing even after that, untill i figured out how it works, shared this info with Rio and they said i could make that addition to their tutorial :) This is the part where you remove hair and it’s also super-easy. So, you’ll have to follow Rio’s original tutorial up to the point where you found all the parts of your outfit (Filter Resources -> Group-> AllRes) and you find out what ages/genders you want to edit, then simply extract those Age Data’s (right click->extract). After that make a new package and add those extracted Age Data’s. So there’s two versions of how AD’s may look like, i think xml ones are BG and cpf is later EP’s.

EDIT: Just found that pictures are too small to read, i’ve uploaded bigger res pics here, so you could actually see.

There has to be a better way to do this one, as Rio and i think that they spawn with random outfits cos the settings is “wrong”, but as long as it works it’s fine by me ;)

On a final note i would like to thank Rio for the original mod and tutorial, i couldn’t have made it without it. Also i wished for that to be possible for YEARS!

#DormCooking- Spicy Tuna Macaroni

For 2 people

Ingredients:

Del Monte Tomato Sauce 250g

Macaroni 200g

Century Tuna Hot & Spicy 1 can

Drizzle of oil

Salt and a LOT of pepper

What to do:

Cook the macaroni with oil and salt for about 10-15mins if ur kitchen equipment sucks like in my dorm

Drain and set the macaroni aside. Make sure there is a little pasta water left in the bowl/sauce pan whatever

Drizzle oil in the pan and lightly fry the hot and spicy tuna with the can oils/broth

Put the tomato sauce in and stir. Add a bae amount of salt and thrice as much pepper. Stir for 2-3mins.

Add the macaroni and mix

TADAAA

There you have a sour spicy mac for lunch
