AU idea where the eye Naruto gives Kakashi is accidentally a Perfect Magic Eye a la Hagoromo, capable of Sharingan and Rinnegan and all that jazz.
Kakashi has no idea until he wakes up from a particularly hellish nightmare to find a two-meter sphere his bedroom just. gone. A chunk of wall and floor and table have vanished like an ice-cream scooper scooped it out. It can only be Kamui. Except it can't because that was Obito and Obito is gone and his gift is gone and he doesn't have the Sharingan anymore.
He approaches the destruction. Almost absently, he reaches forward and performs a wind jutsu. It knocks him back against another wall, denting it too, but the job is done: the wreckage looks natural now, rough and splintered.
Sheepishly, he goes to fetch Tenzo. Back at his house Kakashi explains that there was a nightmare, and an accidental Rasengan, and he could really use a hand. Tenzo can tell Kakashi is lying about something. But he gets the specifics wrong, and scolds Kakashi about not developing dangerous new jutsu indoors. The room gets fixed.
Kakashi carefully doesn't think about the incident and moves on. Time passes. The Hokage rarely confronts incidents directly, so there's no opportunity for any skeletons to come tumbling out of closets. Kakashi almost forgets.
Then, on a journey, Kakashi and Gai stumble into an Incident. The ensuing fight against a gang of missing-nin would have been easier if there were no innocent villagers to defend. The fight is long and messy. One of the last missing-nin tries to take a hostage. Kakashi is too far away to stop him.
Gai alights back onto his wheelchair after an awesome backflip where he punched a missing-nin in mid-air to find the last opponent shrieking in agony, clutching a bloodied stump where his leg recently was. Kakashi further away that Gai is. The leg is nowhere to be seen.
Kakashi dashes forward and puts the missing-nin out of his misery. He desperately explains about, um, a new jutsu, long range, inspired by the Yellow Flash—it's still in it's experimental stage, see, which is why even Kakashi can't really say what just happened. Haha. Guy can tell something's up, but they're both exhausted, and there's a crowd of terrified villagers to reassure.
When they return back home, Kakashi tries to put this second incident out of his mind yet again. But Guy keeps bringing it up, excited and also somewhat concerned, and that triggers Tenzo's curiousity too. Kakashi can't escape it. Questions he can't bear to even look at directly weigh down on the back of his mind like a lead weight in his skull.
One night, Kakashi is alone. Cold rain is coming down. His eye doesn't hurt. The wrongness of that tips some scale inside him. After so long spent choking his instincts, avoiding the place out of some overwhelming emotion, his feet take him back to the memorial stone.
Kakashi stands. He can't find any words. There's nobody here—none of the living and none of the dead either, he knows that—but he feels like the stone is looking at him. Like everything is watching him. Suddenly, all he needs is to see what they're seeing. He yanks out a pocket mirror.
Both his eyes are open. One is grey, as it ought to be. The other is grey too, as it ought to be. It was a gift from Naruto, after all. Kakashi's not ungrateful. He's not. The eye is grey as it always should be with absolutely no possibility of red or black or anything else. He stares at the eye. His mind quakes.
There's a stab of pain in his eye. It shouldn't be, but it's a relief. Familiar. He latches onto it like a tether, grounding, letting the sensation fill his senses.
The sharp pain swells into burning agony. That is not familiar. But he's somewhere between sleep and awareness, operating on instinct, and agony feels appropriate here. He's at the memorial stone. He doesn't have the right to try and stop it. The agony is overwhelming, but he can't bring himself to stop clutching on to the sensation.
Something reaches it's apex. It's intensity whites out Kakashi's senses for a moment. Then he's on his knees, throat raw, scrabbling for his fallen mirror.
He cracks open the eye. Something violet stares back. The world stops.
He rips the eye out.
The pain of his eye being where it was not supposed to be, i.e. in his hand, is actually less than when it was in his head. It's funny. Comical, even. Luckily he knows a statis sealing jutsu, so he seals away his eye in a scroll and tucks it in his pocket. Now his eye is in his pocket. He giggles.
After some quick first aid, he pushes himself to his feet. He blinks himself into the nearby training ground. It's probably the shortest amount of time he's ever spent at the stone. It's a record. Gai would be proud.
He staggers home. Halfheartedly, Kakashi tries to convince himself that the bedroom would be the best place to sleep, but the room feels off-limits for now. He slips into the kitchen instead. He's slept on worse things than a cold floor, and the boxy cabinets felt strangely safe. And it never hurt to have the sink nearby.
The next morning, Kakashi pulls his forehead protector over his eye in his usual way. There's a surge of mixed emotions. He focuses on the comforting familiarity and makes his way to work.
There's a commotion. Of course there's a commotion. It's nearly as funny as everyone's obsession with his mask. It almost makes it all worth it. He jukes Guy's darting grab. Naruto's confused yelling informs everyone in a five mile radius. Even Shizune looks thrown for a loop. Kakashi brushes it all off with a teasing eye-smile. It's a fashion choice, see? He thinks it makes him look dashing.
But everyone knows there's something wrong. And they're not going to let it go until they get to the bottom of it.

Yamato/Tenzo
I love that Yamato's story begins as one where he's just sort of there to replace Kakashi while Kakashi's recovering from overusing the Sharingan, but then it evolves into this huge backstory where he was raised by Danzo to not feel emotions and to always put the mission over everything (even his own life) but then Kakashi came crashing into his life and showed him that 'actually it's good to care about people and I'm willing to break rules and risk my life for you, someone who just tried to kill me'. I love the depth of Yamato's story and how he clawed his way from being no one unknown by anyone in the village except Danzo, to being his own person with an over-expressive personality and a desperate need for a vacation.
Tumblr media
I love that his dream is just to simply be loved and wanted. To have a sort of family that he can return to. That he can love. After everything he has been through and done, Yamato deserved to be loved. He deserved to be appreciated and adored.
Tumblr media
That no matter how many times Kakahsi asks him to stop calling him 'Senpai' he refuses. It's like his own little rebellion against Kakashi. He would do almost anything for Kakahsi, except stop referring to him as Senpai. That's just never going to happen and I adore it.
How he comes into Team seven telling Sakura that he's not going to baby them and that unlike his precious Senpai he's not there to protect them. He looks her straight in the eye and tells her she's a Shinobi and has to know how to take care of herself, and then he turns around and becomes the most caring big brother to team seven (specifically Naruto). The man was ready to yell at Sakura over her confession. He watched over Naruto and cared for him after his panic attack. He only ever wanted the best for those kids and he showed it in everything he did for them, even when his efforts weren't recognized.
I love how chill he is with Gai. Kakashi is 'Senpai', Asuma is 'Asuma-enpai' and Gai is- Gai. He's comfortable enough to shove Gai's arm off of his shoulder, knows him well enough to know how the use of the gates affects his body, and yells at Naruto not to touch Gai while he's recovering, and he's even comfortable enough to laugh when Kakashi tells him about Gai's 'acorn'. The two of them didn't get nearly enough screen time together and that's always going to be a pity because they had such a good bond in what little we saw of them.
Tumblr media
How protective he is. As stated, Yamato is someone who was raised to not care about others. The mission comes first and everything else is secondary. His last mission for Danzo was to kill someone he considered a friend and ally and he had even accepted that he would have to do it until Kakashi talked to him. But then as an adult, Yamato is completely different. He's the guy who catches Sakura while she's falling even though he should focus on the fight. He's the one who gets captured in the war because he chooses not to focus on his own safety, but to shove Aobe out of the way of Kabuto's attack. He learns from Kakashi that friends are precious and must be protected, and even though he acts like that's not something he adheres to it's all an act. He loves his friends and he's willing to give everything for them, including his own life.
Tumblr media
His desperate need for recognition/praise. This makes sense given the way Yamato was raised, but I love how easily he falls for Kakashi's sweet words. You know this boy needs a little bit of love because as soon as Kakashi says something sort of nice about him he melts. He's done for, and I enjoy it so much.
Tumblr media
Drunk Kareokee Singing. This speaks for itself. Yamato's rarely allowed an opportunity to relax and unwind so the karaoke scene is a blessing (even if it is Anime only) and I enjoy every second of it. Would absolutely listen to his bad drunk karaoke singing.
(Movie only: lost tower) that moment he got back at Kakashi for years of bullying, by hitting kid Kakashi for being a little brat of a bully. Love that for him. He deserved to get in that single hit.

Broke My Heart Again (Part 1)
Jiraiya x NarutoMotherFigure!Reader
Part 1 Part 2
Synopsis: Needing to drop something off to Naruto, you traveled to the town they hit up to find Tsunade. However, instead of finding the blonde boy, you stumbled upon Jiraiya, and the girls he had hanging off of him.
A/n: heavy fucking angst. Reader and Jiraiya are on a break in this fic. Enjoy I suppose
Song 1: You broke my heart again - Link: https://youtu.be/TqQaY-IhVmM
Song 2: 911 by Elise - Link: https://youtu.be/SB3Dcl8PMmU)
Tumblr media
The rain pounded harder against your umbrella, majority of you was dry. Everything except for your feet. "God I was stupid to leave without rain boots" you muttered to yourself as you looked around at those that were properly dressed. You saw a hotel sign and craned your neck to try and get a look at the name, "ah! There it is!!" You exclaimed excitedly as you sped up.
Naruto had left a very important item and you figured you could run it to him before him and Jiraiya continue on....
Jiraiya.
Your heart lurched at the thought of him. Jiraiya said he wanted a break, and in your hopes of him staying, you agreed. You couldn't remember why you were taking a break, the argument was forgotten as soon as the venomous words "I want a break!!" left his mouth. Lightning lit up the sky, you knew he loved you. He'd come back-
Thunder clapped and your body stopped in its tracks, mind not quite figuring out what exactly made you stop. Your heart was in your stomach, eyes wide and lips quivering. What caused this? Then, another round of laughter hit your ears.
A booming laugh. His laugh. Your head turned slowly to where it was coming from. If you would have slowed down, taken in your surroundings, you would have figured it out without embarrassing yourself, but you rushed towards the curtains none the less.
Whipping them open, your e/c eyes landed on Jiraiya lounging on a pile of pillows. Two girls were curled up against him, dainty fingers tracing up and down his body the way you used to. Your world started to spin a bit. It wasn't the girls that made you sick, though, it was him.
Jiraiya was smiling and laughing, drink in one hand as he let his other hand run up and down one of the girls backs. So this is why he wanted a break. The more you watched, the more it broke you. Finally, after what felt like centuries, you tore your eyes away and moved to get out of the doorway.
A hand gripped your wrist, halting you in your tracks. Yet you didnt feel it. Everything felt numb. Your ears were ringing and your mind was hazy. It felt the same as when you got too drunk, but this time you were feeling every emotion possible. How was that possible? To feel nothing yet everything all at once?
A muffled voice started to come through the haze, it was saying your name. At the same time another hand rested itself on your waist, hauling you to the side of the building. Rain cascaded onto you, your umbrella long forgotten on the sidewalk where your heart also laid.
Your eyes were downcast, brain trying to process every lie that he told you. He just wanted a break so he could screw other girls. How many breaks have you been on now? 5? 10? And each time you thought it was because of something you had done.
Your brain was questioning why you weren't acknowledging the man who was towering over you, spewing apologies and lies, but it's because your heart couldn't take it. You couldn't take it anymore. Finally, your eyes snapped up to his, hatred floating among the tears that threatened to mix with the rain drops flowing down your cheeks. Your brain apparently couldnt keep up with your mouth either.
"I hate you"
It was his turn to react. His eyes widened and his mouth opened in shock. Hate? Did you.... really hate him? "Y/n.... Please let me-"
Your threw your hands onto his chest, pushing with all your might to get him off you. He stumbled back, almost falling into the road if he wasn't semi prepared for that attack. Your brain was now screaming as to why you pushed him... why couldn't it see that everything was aching? Your heart, your body, your soul. Everything was aching but your stupid brain couldn't feel any of it. Refused to feel any of it.
"You lied to me. All those times you LIED to me. And you think I'm just going to let you continue lying?!" Jiraiyas heart was pounding at your words, mentally counting the number of times he's lied to you. His face softened, 15 times. He's lied to you 15 times. And you fell for 14 of them. He didn't know how to fix you, to stop the ache, but he did know one thing.
You deserved so much better.
Stepping back, he bowed his head at you. "I apologize... I think it would be best if we permanently separate-"
Your shoulder bumped into his as you stormed past. He was confused, until he turned with you and saw Naruto coming out of the hotel. "NARUTO" your broken scream sounded out, causing the blondes head to whip your way. The boy had a million emotions flash across his features - surprise, confusion, concern, realization, happiness - before once again morphing into a look of concern as he took in your blood shot eyes.
"Hey. Thanks for my jacket, why are you crying?" He asked as you got closer to him, your sniffle hit his ears and his concern only deepend. Then his eyes flicked to the man storming after you.
Oh.
"What the hell did you do to my mom!?" Naruto screamed out, causing you to cringe as now all eyes were on you three. "Don't start anything. Take your jacket-" he ignored your words the minute you handed him the jacket. Throwing it over his shoulder, the 16 year old stormed past you to stop the older man in his tracks. "Naruto" you warned, eyes widening as the much smaller boy tried to size up the much bigger, more experienced man. Jiraiya could snap him like a twig, but he wouldn't and Naruto knew this.
"What the hell did you do." Naruto whispered angrily, teeth barred as his fists clenched harder and harder the more the silence dragged on. "Naruto Uzumaki" you snarled out as you too stormed over to him. "You don't wanna do this kid" you heard Jiraiya whisper, causing your anxiety to thicken and your pace to pick up speed.
"You've hurt her way too many times old man and I'm tired of hearing her cry herself to sleep every other month-"
Your hand gripped Naruto's shoulder as you yanked him back. "Enough." You snarled out, eyes full of anger and malice. While they were glued to Naruto and Naruto alone, you both knew who it was really directed towards. "I'm breaking up with him anyway so you won't have to worry about anymore crying." Jiraiya's eyes widened and you realized that your brain had finally caught up to every fiber of your being. You were no longer numb.
You were pissed.
"Your training shouldn't be and will not be dependent on what just happened here. So don't ruin this opportunity, Naruto" he nodded at your words but shot a glare over your shoulder to the man behind you anyway. "I'm going home now. Please be careful and I'll see you when you get home"
He nodded sadly at you, he wished that you could be his trainer, but you had given the ninja life up when he was born so you could raise him. Pressing a quick kiss to his forehead, you turned him and shoved him so he could head back to the hotel. He shot one more glance back to you but you simply waved with a tight lipped smile. Whatever Jiraiya was about to hear was going to hurt more than the beating Naruto was about to lay upon him.
Jiraiya watched your back, hating how the air grew thicker the longer the silence mixed with the rain.
"I want your shit out of my house when you get back. I'll even pack it nicely for you so you don't have an excuse to stay longer than I'll allow. I don't want to have any communication with you unless it pertains to Naruto."
"Y/n-"
You whirled around, eyes locking with his instantly as if you weren't afraid of losing him. As if he was a stranger passing by. "I've let this go on for far too long. I wish you the best, I suppose..." you snapped out. Something shiny flashed in the distance, however you couldn't get a better look thanks to the giant man in front of you. But you had a feeling you knew what it was...
Who it was.
"Now if you'll excuse me... My search party has arrived" you took off towards something behind him, eyes bright at the sight of the newcomers.
"Your search party?-" Jiraiya turned to look at who you were talking about, but he wish he wouldn't have. Your arms went up as you tackled the three out of breath ninjas waiting for you into a weird group hug. Upon request, the 5th hokage requested that Kakashi, Gai, and Genma tag along, but you didn't want that so you left. You forgot just how fast they truly were.
Jiraiya watched as Kakashi shied away from the hug while Gai and Genma embraced it. If Jiraiya wasn't mistaken, you were on Gai and Genma's team growing up. But something was different between the two men. While Gai's hand was high on your back, Genma's was dangerously low on your hip. Jiraiya sighed to himself as he watched the four of you heading back to the leaf village.
You were leaving single, but he had a feeling you wouldn't be when he returned.

Impressions on Jujutsu Kaisen S1-S2
(In no particular order)
(Because I felt like it)
So I got up to date on the anime Jujutsu Kaisen, mostly for lack of something to watch, and found it interesting. Partially because of its popularity (#1 on Crunchyroll in Dec. 2023). S2 is just about complete at this time and as others have remarked, there's a pretty big tone shift between S1 and S2.
As someone who spent their teen and college years enjoying Shounen series like Naruto and Bleach, who used to be much deeper into anime from about 2000-2010, it's interesting to see the way the Shounen genre has "evolved" from what I knew when I was more a part of the teen/early 20s target audience.
(Cut for spoilers beyond this point.)
First of all, it might even be a misnomer to call JJK purely shounen. The tone shift in S2 takes it to some pretty violent places. Places that seem in excess of, say, Naruto's peak violence. That said, I'm not entirely sure JJK deserves the genre of "seinin" exactly, because its plot structure is still pretty grounded in Shounen action/adventure.
Thing is, for all of the increase in violence, I'm not sure the issues the show actually deals with earn it the "seinin" or more "adult" designation just yet. JJK, so far at least, to me seems to struggle with being "about" something more than its premise. For example, the magical powers gained by the girls in Puella Magi Madoka Magica are at least a little bit about the struggles of being a young woman, about growing up, about grief and loss and love. A magical girl "becoming" a witch plays into a larger theme of loss of innocence.
At least as of the end of S2, JJK doesn't exactly have a thing that being a jujutsu sorcerer is actually "about". It's not really a coming of age parallel. It's not really about coming to terms with death (though a lot of death happens). It's still very much about the big fights that are happening. Absorbing Sukuna for Yuji Itadori isn't a metaphor or even lending to a metaphor for anything else except absorbing Sukuna.
This is totally fine by the way! Not everything needs to be "about" something bigger. But, for me at least, the "not being about something bigger" is what's keeping JJK at an A- instead of an A+.
JJK is also strangely lacking in worldbuilding. And I say strangely because it almost feels like it skips the worldbuilding because it's derivatively leaning on the worldbuilding done by other shounen anime. Like, "We don't need to explain how people can randomly jump from tree to tree or hover in the air while fighting, because Naruto already did that. You don't really want us to stop the narrative to explain how Yuji leveled up all these basic magical fighting abilities, right? So don't worry about how he can suddenly do all this stuff."
Literally, Yuji will gain an ability like Black Flash within the course of a single battle. In Bleach or Inuyasha, gaining that sort of ability would take an entire arc and lots of trial and error. So I have mixed feelings about JJK kind of just skipping him struggling to learn Black Flash for any length of time because yeah, that beat can get kind of tiresome in anime. We know they're going to learn the ability, so it's just dragging the process out to make it an entire arc.
But on the other hand, making the gaining of a new ability into an arc lends a certain gravity to the story. A sense of stakes and achievement. Yuji never really struggles to learn any new ability. He picks them up in the course of any given battle (or Sukuna drops in and bails him out).
So in a way, JJK is innovating on the Shounen genre by just skipping a lot of the base level fighting ability arcs and challenges, in order to cut straight through the biggest, most epic battles. There is no little kid level ninja school, our Naruto is fighting Orochimaru-level threats in the middle of S1.
Now, the way the story also innovates on throwing endgame level threats at the hero right away, instead of a bunch of trash to slowly build them up, is by having the bad guys not die in the fight. Bad guys often escape the battle to fight another day. Yes, trash battles happen, but endgame level villains are taking part with surprising regularity for the genre. Aizen from Bleach wasn't showing up for every side character battle that Ichigo fought against him in the lead up to their confrontations. And characters who were defeated didn't really show up again as antagonists, at least not in the Soul Society or Hueco Mondo arcs. They either became allies or they died. So JJK is different in this regard, in a way that's rather refreshing actually.
Now, to go back to worldbuilding, JJK was interesting to me because it started out very authoritative about its genre. It was very paint by numbers standard shounen but so confidently executed that it didn't feel boring. We had lots of shounen genre cliches, like the plucky protagonist with tons of power potential, his dark haired team member who is brooding, the secretly powerful goofy teacher, etc.
But how the JJK universe fits into our world is strangely lacking. Part of it feels purposeful. It's very laser focused on moving the story along. It doesn't really care to answer questions like, "How are these people getting paid?" and "Why is a school tasked with saving the world?" Like, it's basically X-Men rules, so it's fine.
But by contrast, Naruto's ninja villages were an entire ecosystem, we knew how ninjas fit into society and why everyone was doing what they did. We know how Bleach's Soul Society fits into the fabric of the universe. We know how My Hero Academia's world views heroes, a ton of My Hero time is poured into explaining how this world works. JJK... doesn't really bother to say how the world works outside of how it impacts the characters in this moment. It's the thing I find most curiously lacking of all it, and I'm just not quite sure what to make of it.
A few other random thoughts: JJK is fairly refreshing in that it's not totally reductive anime nonsense with regards to women, like having tons of panty shots or whatever. Men still tend to be the most powerful, and it's still a pretty shounen-standard ratio of 2 plot-relevant guys for every 1 woman. But it does view women as people for the most part, so I appreciate that.
But JJK does have some anime nonsense in the sense of people just randomly going "over 9000" with their ability or pulling abilities that no one knew about before that moment out of their ass. I think the show is at its best when it plants its foreshadowing a liiittle further in advance, like when Mahito accidently "touched" Sukuna in that first fight. Everything we needed to know to realize what was going to happen was seeded in advance, and it was a crowning moment of awesome as a result. But besides moments like that, there's a LOT of "Well that didn't work, because I have this secret ability that I'm going to reveal and explain right now!" It's a bit like watching little kids play with action figures in that respect of just randomly having the right tool at the right time.
That said, that sort of "little did you know, I had this secret weapon that easily defeats you that I'm just revealing now!" seems in general more accepted in Japanese storytelling, whereas in Western storytelling the "rule" is more that you need to seed Checkov's gun a lot sooner before you can use it. You can't pull the gun off the mantlepiece to use at the same time you reveal it, it feels cheap. But, since there is a cultural divide between me and the writer, I'm just going to note it as something that pinged me, rather than saying it's good or bad as such. I like foreshadowing that's done further in advance, but that could be a culturally-based preference on my part.
I'm curious where JJK will go next. The violence escalation makes me think either it's going to continue to escalate, or there will be an endgame option to undo all the damage by some magical means at a later date. I'm more than 70/30 thinking it's just going to continue to escalate, but we'll see!

Re watching Naruto and realizing how much there is in common with Blue Exorcist is actually really funny considering how hard Katou tried to remove it from prototypical shonen type series.
Thematically there’s actually not much in common but the characters are quite alike and so are elements of (especially early) Naruto world build. You could quite easily put Blue Exorcist logic (particularly as goes demonic possession) into Early Naruto world building and it wouldn’t change very much except the terminology, which is why frankly I’m surprised no fanfic crossover between them has done that yet.
In example of one-to-one comparisons off the top of my head:
Hinata - Shiemi. Don’t need to explain that one. Though she’s like Sakura in other ways.
Izumo gives me Tsunade vibes. Ino too.
Shura - who is actually a Kunoichi - definitely has Tsunade vibes and a lil bit Sakura too.
Naruto (young) - Rin (pre transformation). Rin is a fair bit more intuitive, a lot more depressed and a bit more Seinen thematically but they’re similar otherwise.
Comparisons between Sasuke and Yukio are there bit more questionable but they’re there. Honestly Yukio is kinda like a mix of Sasuke, Kakashi and Itachi to me. Proud, Moody, smart as hell, and very very depressed.
Renzo, konekomaru and Ryuuji - Shikamaru. Renzo got the lazy and adventurous side. Ryuuji got the strategist and perfectionist side. Koneko got the tech savvy.
Amaimon - Gaara. Difficulty expressing feelings, doesn’t particularly value human life, “war-demon” vibes, and ability to manipulate earth. Short fuse and ridiculous power. Has a bad-news vibe felt by those around them.
Orochimaru does certainly have Mephisto vibes, especially as he’s got quite the spy network, but more so I’d compare to Lucifer. Ambitious as hell, not quite as narcissistic but close, obsessed with physical immortality, experimentation and cloning business, is extremely powerful but somehow it’s not enough, has basically a cult under his slippery scales, etc. has a more even temper and obvious thematic difference but they’re in the same nook.
Mephisto reminds me far more of Tobi/Obito. Eccentric, insane, and two faced. Hides behind a playful mask in public but behind it he’s a monster pulling everyone’s strings. Knows everything he shouldn’t. Plus there’s the whole time space thing. I wonder if Meph can make himself intangible? Would be awesome.
Ofc you’ve got Jeremiah - Kabuto. I was wondering why he seemed so familiar as a character archetype.
I’m not saying they’re necessarily intentional references to each other, as these character types are all fairly common. But it’s just fun to notice these things and ponder them.

Naruto and Obito's Dynamic
I've been giving this a lot of thought and people often take it so lightly or even shit all over Naruto when he told that cunt Black Zetsu that Obito's nothing but awesome to him...
And there is a reason why that Naruto respects Obito so much despite everything that happened.
That's because Naruto would have done the exact same thing if he was the one who snapped and turned evil.
Naruto realized that he had absolutely NO place to judge him, when he knew that if things had just taken the wrong turn, he'd be just as evil. The best thing about Naruto is his maturity and self-awareness at his age because of everything he went through. His best power is empathy.
How, you may ask? Well... taking a look at Naruto's past... wasn't he always lonely and isolated by the villagers for a fate that he had no control over?
If Naruto did not see any good in the world, he'd make sure that every person would taste the despair and solitude he felt all those years by taking away their loved ones too; just to show them what it felt like to treat him this way, and just to see them crumble and be consumed by the fear of solitude and loneliness.
Yet it was in Naruto's favor that he found his people; when Obito unfortunately had no one to support his views other than Rin.
In what way did Rin support his views, you might ask?
Obito was ALWAYS against the system of the shinobi world. He basically rolls the opposite direction - he was never a "sheep" to their rules. Prioritize the mission? No. Save your comrades first. Strike a war for power? No. Enough sacrificing child soldiers and strive for peace. Enough blood spilling, enough living in a world where it only takes, and takes, and TAKES.
And Rin also shared the same feelings too; we just needed to read between the lines to see that. She wanted to stop wars, she wanted to stop seeing people die for the sake of political powers, she wanted people to live happily, and she too, wanted peace. It's something that really tightened her bond with Obito even more, and that's why she wanted to support the struggling Uchiha because he wasn't all talk to her - she always saw how he was working so hard against his own imperfections to become a Hokage who would work so hard to bring peace and eradicate the injustice of the system; and she wanted to see her best friend reach all those goals because she truly, truly, saw his potential.
As for Kakashi, even though deep down, he was doubtful and struggling with the rules of the shinobi system, went with the flow because of the trauma he suffered from Sakumo's death. It changed him 180 degrees and he cannot be blamed for it. His father was everything to him and children often mimic their heroes, and his father was his true hero until the tragedy happened. Kakashi was left to fend for himself, and when someone tried to throw at his face how the rules are flawed, Kakashi only remained in denial and just scoffed and shut it down because he didn't want to hear any of it.
Obito was the only one who woke him up and showed him that being a sheep to the injustice only brings tragedy, and that it needed to be stopped - starting by prioritizing your comrades. The best thing is that Obito didn't give a single flying f-ck about what the villagers would say as long as he stood by what was right; and it took a brutal event to make Kakashi see that his own father was right all along.
Obito had no one except Team Minato.
But imagine feeling let down by your own teacher? A person who he always looked up to and was lucky enough to be his student? He could have saved her. He could have saved the team. He could have done something - but in Obito's eyes, he was just as bad as everyone. Just as bad as the system. Then watching the person you entrusted a promise to keep the one and only person who means the world to you safe - only to see that promise broken in the most brutal way because of the goddamned system that forced Rin to be a Jinchuuriki (only for Kirigakure's desire to destroy Konoha), and forced her to take her life for the sake of Konoha. The war never stopped. Blood spilling didn't stop... and it also took the person he loved so much.
The despair made his sanity snap like a twig and darkness consumed him. Madara's manipulation was not helping either - because Madara saw the world the same way too, and it only made Obito feel like Madara was the only one walking with the truth and with the solution to fix everything that everyone failed to do.
And Naruto was able to see through all of that, bit by bit. Obito tends to manipulate people by using their weaknesses and darkness against them like a true devil, in order to lure them to his own dark path, but he could NOT do that to Naruto because Naruto was pulled away from that path by the right people.
At the same time, Naruto couldn't judge Obito for being the way he was, but Naruto also knew that if Obito had the right people around him, then things would be different in the best way possible. He would've been the shinobi world's protector, rather than destroyer; and when Obito redeemed himself, that's all Naruto could see: Not the Obito that snapped, not the Obito that walked the earth in darkness and evil - he only saw the Obito that would have been the true protector of the world.

big rant incoming. about naruto/boruto and misogyny.
so like. i dont read/watch boruto or naruto. that right there probably discredits everything im about to say. feel free to keep scrolling. i just kinda casually look at whats going on sometimes bc ill see stuff on tik tok or whatever. so i may be completely incorrect here and maybe i don’t know what im talking about. but this is a feeling in my gut ive had for a long time.
the older i get, the more angry i get about female representation in shounen anime/manga. it is severely lacking. all my time ive spent as an anime fan, i have been DYING to see a girl that can even hold a candle to any other of her male counterparts in strength. im not saying its never been done, but i am saying i have HARDLY seen it.
even though i don’t really watch naruto, it is one of the most popular anime of ALL TIME, and its most famous aspect has to be the naruto v sasuke feud. the fact that they are both so strong and that by the time they are adults their power is unparalleled to literally anyone else in the verse is definitely a huge plot point of the show.
so when i heard that with the new naruto gen, sasuke has a DAUGHTER, and NO SONS, i was so excited.
that’s when i decided to follow the series more closely, because i was so excited to see a franchise this huge put a female supporting character with THIS much potential on display.
and while i do love sarada and think the stuff she’s accomplished is pretty impressive compared to the girls of naruto (i am a sakura supporter but u know what i mean), the overall treatment that she is getting compared to her male counterparts is pathetic.
maybe you want to argue that the uzumaki vs uchiha feud is already played out. they don’t need to do it in boruto because they’ve done it already. we dont need to see the plot shaped around boruto vs sarada because it’s already been done, but honestly, i don’t believe that at all. from what i’ve seen, boruto is practically a carbon copy of naruto in looks, personality, and ability (with the exception of some added brattiness), and the same can be said for a lot of the kids (cho cho, shikadai, probably more). so if the kids are already emulating their parents already to a t (not to mention they are copies of their FATHERS, not their mothers), i dont see why the same can’t be done with sasuke and sarada in terms of ability. im gonna move on from the kids copying their parents because again, as someone who is not an actual watcher, i could definitely be wrong about some stuff here.
so now, instead of developing sarada’s character, they have to introduce kawaki (a boy) to be boruto’s foil. kawaki is now meant to be the character to challenge boruto. kawaki is now meant to be the only person who can parallel boruto in strength. kawaki is the rival/best friend.
and where does that leave sarada? crying and pleading for sasuke to save boruto.
sarada doesn’t have to be sasuke. thats not what im saying. i actually don’t want that at all. i want her to be her own person with her own dreams. i want her to reach the incredible amount of potential she has as a ninja. due to her lineage, she has the ability to not only become the strongest kunoichi, but one of the strongest ninja in the verse. she’s an uchiha with monster strength like her mother, and i don’t see why she wouldn’t be able to unlock the 100 healings either. genetics aside, she is smart and deeply determined. sarada does not have to be her parents, but if all of the other kids are already doing it, then there is NO good reason for sarada not to be one of the strongest, if not THE strongest ninja of the new gen.
i’m sorry but it is just SO sad to see. i can’t even be happy for her unlocking her mangekyou sharingan because i DOUBT its power will ever come anywhere CLOSE to the level of any of the previous uchihas thanks to kishimoto’s blatant misogyny.
also, her outfit in the manga. i don’t really know how much kishimoto has to do with this but come on. be better. she is a NINJA.
sarada is such an interesting character and her potential is being wasted with each passing moment.
k thats it bye!!! <3

There's been a viral post about the best anime openings making rounds on the bird site and I wanted to share my favorites. So, here's a top 10 anime openings list except it's obvious I only really watch mainstream anime. After determining ten I liked best, without repeat series, I considered things like how recognizable they were, how catchy I found the song, whether it fit the tone of the series, and how engaging the animations were.
General warnings for flashing images, volume, blood, skeleton (Ainz Ooal Gown from Overlord), body horror (Ryuk from Death Note).
Press J to skip this post if you're on desktop.
youtube
10. Demon Slayer. It's not old enough to be nostalgic to me, I think that's mostly why I'd rank it so low. I have the song on a playlist and hear it more often than some of the others higher on the list. The colors are fun and the opening was a huge reason I was excited to see where the series would be going after the first episode.
youtube
9. A lot of people had different Sailor Moon openings as their favorite. I picked the one I had the most fondness for, and yeah, it was in English. I was five years old when my Sailor Moon interest first started. My cellphone ringtone is the song from her locket. I love the split reflection with playful Sailor Moon and wistful Serena / Usagi.
youtube
8. I always found Naruto's fourth opening, Fighting Dreamers Go!!! a lot of fun. Many anime have openings where you spend time staring at still images of the characters, and I felt like the scroll-art-look was a really good way of doing this without long static.
youtube
7. Cowboy Bebop's first opening Tank! is one I've seen parodied at least twice, and you know what they say about the highest form of compliments. It's iconic, but isn't of a style that I personally would have stuck on my head.
youtube
6. What's up, people?! took me by surprise when the homemade subs of Death Note finally came around years ago. The song was bright and loud and dramatic, and similar in style to my emo / screamo style of the time. Still a favorite, almost made top 5.
youtube
5. History Maker was another opening that was really part of the hook of the first episode for me, the first few minutes. I'm a huge fan of how figure skating was animated in Yuri!!! on Ice and I feel like this opening meant a lot to the people who were passionate about it when it came out. Deserved.
youtube
4. Indulgent of me to rank Overlord's third opening Voracity so high but it's my list, lol. I have this song on a playlist too, and I love the beat of it a lot. The dysfunctional macabre absurdity is up my alley.
youtube
3. The colors, the animation, the heart of BLOODY STREAM (pun intended) are so good. I love it.
youtube
2. Everyone knows the Pokemon Theme Song. In my experience, even children who were started on later seasons of pokemon are so familiar with this opening. It's fun, it invites you into the world. It's done everything it's ever needed to do, and done those things well.
youtube
Unparalleled. A Cruel Angel's Thesis ("Zankoku na tenshi no tēze) is another song I have on a playlist. A gorgeous piece of music and art; and the opening is maybe just as much a non sequitur for the anime as its many endings are to itself. Lol. NGE is dear to me, and the opening is accessible to new and old audiences. Meme'd even by those who might never want to pick it up.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks..
tbh this is extremely hard to answer because I have many interests. I’m sure I’ll feel bad when I remember the hundred other characters that should have made the list. I’m not putting any Ikuhara characters because it’d been too hard to pick and honestly I’d have to go through each work individually.
1. Tenma from Naoki Urasawa’s Monster. I don’t claim to be a complicated person, alright. I just think he’s nice. every time I read Monster I get more attached to him like a little baby duck, which is what all the other characters in that story do as well so I’m valid. trying to put it into words is hard--he’s just an alluring combo of pathetic, ridiculous, cool, strong, and kind. plus he kinda becomes a religious figure by the end and I’m a sucker for that shit.
Tumblr media
2. Xie Lian from TGCF/Heaven Official’s Blessing. I read the novels this summer after watching the donghua. I was just expecting a decent BL, but what I got was epic historical supernatural fiction (and BL). Xie Lian is such an impressively written character. his story helped me deal with my own fall from grace, as it were, and was overall cathartic and engaging. plus he’s my type. step aside Hua Cheng, I’d die for him first.
Tumblr media
3. Orel from Moral Orel. I love this show a lot because of its focus on the cruelty and hypocrisy of WASP America, and Orel is relatable for struggling to understand the bulltshit answers he gets to all his questions. he’s a lot more innocent than I was as a kid, but I think his kind of purity plays well against the satirical, dark edge of the show.
Tumblr media
4. Reki from Haibane Renmei. most of the reasons I love her aren’t revealed until the very end of the show. I’ll say that I love her because she’s the ultimate manifestation of the story’s themes of guilt and redemption.
Tumblr media
5. Ishida from Koe no Katachi. I just finished rereading this manga recently. if you want a character who does wrong, suffers, tries to change himself, but finds it isn’t that easy, Ishida is your man. he’s such a funny, well-written teen boy, but also someone I think anyone from any background can see themselves in--the good and the bad.
Tumblr media
6. Naruto from... you know. Naruto was the first anime I became really obsessed with, when I was in middle school, and Naruto himself is the first character I can remember becoming attached to in an intense, lasting way. I loved him so much and I still have that attachment to him. he’s so, so cute, and so, so lovable. when I’m done with my first round of Ikuhara vids, I’m going to download Naruto so I can make my friend a Sasuke fancam and I’m also gonna make a Naruto edit just for me :)
Tumblr media
7. Miyuki from Naoki Urasawa’s Happy! I’ve read everything by Urasawa except for Yawara, and I’m one of the only people who seems to have read Happy! I gotta say, would I pick it as one of his best works? no. I love everything he’s done, but something like 20th Century Boys or Billy Bat is clearly a more serious, meaningful story than Happy!, which comes out of his transition phase between writing romantic comedy sports manga and his later thrillers. however... Happy! is one of those works which makes me lose my mind regardless of quality. and Miyuki, the main character, is just so damn adorable. I find her a very appealing, sweet character. beyond that, kind of like Monster, the entire story is about people trying to break her down, but she refuses to ever give up and I love that sort of thing when played right.
Tumblr media
8. Ged from Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea series. I am still digging into Le Guin’s body of work but I’ve read most of her novels and short story collections. I could absolutely make a top ten list with just characters from her books. however, I managed to narrow it down to just three from this list, all from the Earthsea books. Ged is the only character who appears in all six books, and the reader gets to experience close the entire course of his life. he starts as an arrogant, careless boy and grows into a wise man. Le Guin decided not to leave him after he does his final great act, and his story continues after he loses his power. Tehanu, the fourth book in the series, is probably my favorite book I’ve ever read, I’ve thought about writing an analysis comparing it with RGU, and one of its main themes is life after loss and trauma. his story interwines with the next two characters on this list.
Tumblr media
9. Tenar from Earthsea. like Ged, we get to see most of her life throughout the books. book 2 contains her coming of age story, while Tehanu features her as a widow, struggling between the life of an ordinary woman and her status in the mythology of Earthsea. she brings so much fire, mirth, and strength to the series. she’s someone I wish I had in my life, and if you really pressed me, she’s my favorite character Le Guin ever wrote.
Tumblr media
10. Tehanu from Earthsea. this character is a strange one to try to write about. I’ve seen people criticize her writing by saying there’s nothing to her, she’s just a vessel for the story. but I can’t agree. as someone who’s known people who went through severe childhood trauma, I think that Tehanu is written with thought and care. I love how unnerving and unknowable she is, but also how she is written like she’s any other child. the ending of her story in the final book made me sob and sob and sob.

Day 4 + Day 8 (Please Kiss Me All Night + Date)
Summary: Naruto plans a date
.-.-.-
1. Pick up Teme
"You're picking me up?" Sasuke raised his stare from the list Naruto had handed him. "That doesn't make sense. We live together, Dobe." Also, why Teme?
"What? It can be done! I can knock on your bedroom door."
Sasuke frowned but let it go. "Okay, I'll be sure to be inside when you pick me up."
He continued reading.
2. Present Teme a basket of tomatoes
"Aren't you supposed to bring me flowers?"
"Do you like flowers?" Naruto retorted unamused.
"I don't… mind them."
"Exactly!" Naruto leaned onto him. "You have to adore your gift. That's why the tomatoes make more sense."
Sasuke nodded. That actually made a lot of sense.
3. Lunch at the bentô shop
Sasuke had to stop yet again to clarify some things.
"Are you sure about this? This shop is always packed." He turned to Naruto. "The pastry shop is more private."
"But you don't like sweets," Naruto reasoned as if he was stupid.
"If you are sure…"
4. Sit on the deck to watch the ducks
Sasuke groaned. "We are not adopting a freaking duck, Naruto."
"But they look like you," Naruto whined.
"My hair doesn't look like a duck's butt."
"It totally does."
It did, but Sasuke wasn't going to acknowledge that.
"Well, that's not enough reason to bring a wild animal into the house."
"But-"
"You can feed them, but we are not taking one with us."
"Okay." Naruto pouted.
 5. Go to the bookstore
"Why the bookstore?"
"I thought you liked the bookstore."
He did, but every time they went together, Sasuke forgot Naruto was there, enthralled as he was with the oldest editions. The point of a date was for them to spend time together, wasn't it?
"I do. You don't."
"Of course I do."
"You never buy anything."
"I don't have to buy anything." Naruto fidgeted nervously. "It's your face- you look so happy when you find something really special."
Sasuke blushed and choked on his spit. "If-" He cleared his throat. "If you don't mind. The next one is…"
6. Sparring
"Are you sure about this one?"
"Why?" Naruto looked worried.
"I thought you'd want to do something different from what we usually do. Wasn't that what Ino said?"
When everyone finally discovered Naruto and Sasuke were together, Ino had declared they were not an official couple because they had never gone on a date. She had proceeded to lecture Naruto -the one actually interested in what she had to say- on the elements of the perfect date. Naruto had been obsessed ever since and had taken it upon himself to plan the perfect day for them.
Sasuke didn't fully understand, but Naruto had been invested, which enough for him to pay the issue the minimum of his attention.
"She also said to do something we enjoyed."
"Hn." Sasuke nodded contemplatively. Training together had been a fundamental part of their relationship from the beginning. It had been the only way they could understand each other for the longest time.
7. Dinner at Ichiraku
This one was obvious. Ramen was Naruto's favourite food, and Ichiraku his favourite restaurant. The only issue was that everyone in Konoha knew, which meant they wouldn't have a moment of peace there.
Sasuke looked down at the next point in silence.
8. Watch the sunset from the top of the Hokage Monument
We could order takeout.
It would be a stunning view: The face Naruto only made when he was enjoying something that made him happy, bathed in the light of the setting sun. It sounded like the best idea Sasuke had had in a long time. The best way to end the perfect date.
Sasuke re-read the list. Naruto and Sasuke did everything on a regular basis. Not everything on the same day, but those activities were part of their routine. The fact that Naruto deemed each of them exceptional shook Sasuke to his core, because it was the same for him.
Naruto had the power to turn the ordinary into extraordinary, the ridiculous into memorable.
Sasuke took the time to appreciate the list more throuroughly. He tired to memorize every stroke of Naruto's handwriting, every ink stain and wrikle in the paper. Each element was proof of the effort Naruto had put into the task. It was unbelievable that a piece of paper could make Sasuke feel so loved.
"You know," Naruto interrupted his thoughts. "Now that you read that out loud, it's pretty lame. Let me rewrite it." Naruto reached for the list, but Sasuke refused to hand it back.
"No. I think it's pretty good."
"Do you?" Naruto arched a brow, not even trying to hide his eskepticism.
Sasuke nodded. "I'd like to add something, though."
That pushed away most of Naruto's uncertainity. "Anything."
Sasuke wrote down his addition, then showed it Naruto. "What do you think, Dobe?"
Naruto's smile was blinding as he looked at Sasuke. "Yeah, I love it."
9. Kiss Teme all night.

hello, marr! i was wondering if you could recc any of those queer-character-shounens that you mentioned in passing? i'm sure i will probably have read some of them myself lol but i am always up for new recommendations
(also have you heard of call of the night, by any chance? that's a really fun shounen i've been enjoying recently where one of the central themes is literally the aroace spectrum [and also vampires XD])
Going to address the last question first, because it's quicker: Nope!
As for the other, I'm not going to necessarily going to "rec" them, but I'm going to mention some. Spoilers ahoy!
As for things I'm going to exclude: Any of that "super intense shonen protagonist and their best friend/rival relationship even though one or both has a canon female love interest" because that's extremely common but not what we're talking about. Sorry, Naruto, begone. And I'll also exclude things like GetBackers, because they are canonically interested in women despite being advertised, uh, like this.
I'll probably include some seinen, too, because despite seinen generally getting to cover more series and adult topics because of its older demographic, it's still a male-targeted genre and wowwwww the pin ups in the seinen manga sometimes--people assume it targets a similarly un-queer audience.
And obviously limited to stuff I can think of and know.
Let's get started!
HunterXHunter. Alluka (Killua's younger sister) is a trans girl! Everyone in the family refers to her as a boy or a son or a brother, except...Killua, who is also the only person in the family she gets along with. It's really not subtle. There's also whatever Hisoka is, but. Well. We hate Hisoka on this blog, okay?
Dr. STONE. Look, I just watched this one so I'm thinking of it, but there's basically no way Senku isn't aro ace, and this is actually a really common opinion, given that when someone said they could fall in love with him, his response was, "Please don't." Senku has zero interest in romance or sex or any of it, and just cares intensely for his friends. The aro ace community is claiming him, sorry. I know the anime hasn't covered everything, but I cannot imagine him ever getting a love interest, either. It's been repeated.
Akame ga Kill has a gay man on Night Raid. Spoiler, but everyone on Night Raid dies, so he hardly gets a happy ending, but it's not like that's unique to him.
Nabari no Ou is technically a shonen, having been published in a shonen magazine (that also published things like...well, Black Butler, so annnnnyway), and the detueragonist, Yoite, is intersex and has a...probably homosexual...relationship with the protag. It reads that way, anyway.
Luffy from One Piece is confirmed by the author to be ace, and there's a trans dude introduced lately that everyone's been arguing about, hasn't there? Yamato? (I don't like One Piece)
Soul Eater: Crona is nonbinary
Gurren Lagann: Leeron is gay, and although it's not the most tastefully handled, it's definitely canon. It's seienen or shonen, one of 'em.
Boys Run the Riot is a seinen about a trans boy
The manga adaptation of Tiger & Bunny was actually published in a seinen magazine, and *waves at self-identified okama Nathan Seymour, the most-aggressively-nonbinary-chracter*. Plus I'm not over Kotetsu's joke about how Nathan isn't his type because he's "too tall" and not any...um...gender concerns.
My Brother's Husband is published in a seinen manga, and what do you think it's about, come on here.
So anyway, yeah. There's a list to start, just from my own off-hand knowledge without really looking anything up. I'm sure there's been more scholarly and researched discussions on this.
and the point is really: YuuMori isn't unique in the existence of queer characters, queer themes, an unusually queer or female audience for shonen, or anything. While I love it, it's not the only series that's done it. It's not the first.
I saw someone say it "rewrote the rules" for queer characters in shonen earlier today, which is what that comment earlier was about. No, it didn't. I love it, but it really, truly did not. It's building on a long legacy of characters.

hi, do you have any manga/anime you'd recommend? I have not watched/read like anything popular, so no recommendations are off the table. I only just finished naruto and was like hey I actually really liked that (except for the huge flop at the end lmao) and decided to try some of the other big mangas and ended up reading one piece....... (some of the characters are fun, and the pirate setting is cool but oh god, at what cost???) anyway, i trust no one but you now, and I need a new hyperfixation or i'll die :)
I do need to clarify to everyone that I actually don't watch/read too much anime/manga. Especially recent popular stuff.
But I do want to push Samurai Flamenco onto everyone. It satirizes the super hero/power rangers genre and includes lots of gay shenanigans but also has some of the most insane plot twists of all time.
I am currently (slowly) rewatching Tiger & Bunny which is satirizing the same genres, has some more lowkey gay subtext if that's what y'all want, if you watch the non-netflix version there's LOTS of poking fun at capitalism/branding (but it's removed in netflix because they couldn't retain the licenses for the brands it was mocking...).
If you ned to watch just one... watch Samurai Flamenco
And honestly... that's the closest thing to Naruto I can rec? Like in terms of battle-y, action based stuff. Shounen-core stuff. And even then they're not that simialr... Naruto was an outlier for me in many ways, though I did looove Bleach until... I didn't love bleach.
Don't watch Bleach.
Haikyuu is a sports anime I had a lot of fun with but also nothing new has been announced for the anime in like… years… and idk if I can recommend hte manga because I find the volleyball scenes to be impossible to follow in the manga form shgkjsdg But the manga IS done!!
If you liked Sasuke... watch/read Hunter x Hunter and meet my pal Kurapika :) It ALSO has some massive hiatuses and it's source material isn't finished BUT it's getting an update VERY SOON and it's VERY EXCITING! HxH and its predecessor YYH inspired a lot of shounen tropes that exist to this day except... it does them well.
Stuff that I wouldn't necessarily recommend based on your Naruto enjoyment but like in general: Tongari Boushi no Atelier (Witch Hat Atelier), Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon), No. 6 (I've only watched the anime and haven't read the source material, so idk what's better), and Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. Oh!! And Blue Period (manga > anime)
Almost everything else that I post on my anime blog I have either forgotten, I do not feel comfortable recommending because it hasn't aged well, or I don't... actually remember that well btu just have fond vague memories of :)

So, as everyone has been fighting for two days because of Kana's interview about Kishimoto’s arrival in France, I decided to transcribe the podcast into English and publish it.
Besides, I am French, therefore French-speaking, on the other hand my English is lacking so I took a little help from Google translation but I did my best to make the translation as faithful as possible. The key points of the podcast are 100% accurate though, I haven't made any changes.
“We look back at last week's feature on Sasuke Retsuden, the latest spin-off in the Naruto series, available in bookshops now.
So, in this podcast we return to the naruto saga and what's in store for French fans in the weeks and months to come, and as you know, there's plenty to do, which is why it's important to come back to the important news of this month of April, the important arrival of masashi Kishimoto.”
“Stéphanie, Mathieu, what's this incredible announcement for August?”
“Am I allowed to say it?”
Stephanie: “Of course, it's already been announced on social networks anyway.”
“Mr Kishimoto and Mr Ikemoto are coming to France, August 24 and 25!” (*Acclamations*)
“No but that's incredible, you've been asking for this for how long, how did it happen, how long did it take them to respond, did they ask you for money, did they...”
Stephanie: “Maybe I can tell you the little story, I must admit that we were a little surprised too, because every year I send out my little invitation to say: if Kishimoto sensei wants to come, we'd be delighted, and given that it's the 20th anniversary, there must always be something.”
“It's true that when an author has an ongoing weekly series, it's impossible. That's why I think some people can't get away, because it cuts everything off.”
Matthieu: “except that since 2016, Kishimoto sensei was a priori quite available, so we really believed in it over the last few years, but it never happened.”
Stéphanie: “Naruto is something that has done extremely well in France. We're the second biggest market after Japan, and Naruto had a better aura in France than in Japan, so all the indicators were pretty good.
Stéphanie: “And now, this year, for the first time, at the end of 2023, I'm not sending the e-mail to Kishimoto sensei but to Ikemoto sensei, thinking that since Boruto is coming to an end, why not?
Stéphanie: “Ikemoto says yes, and I say to myself: ”That's great!
Then, at the end of the year, I get an e-mail like: Stéphanie, we've got to tell you something, and I think: gosh, he's not coming, it's a shame, but I was expecting it, it's no big deal, but now I'm told that Kishimoto is coming, and I panic (*laughs*)”.
Stéphanie: “Well, don't forget that he said he was coming with Ikemoto for Boruto, and that's very important to say, because even though he's the author of Naruto, he's really only coming to accompany Ikemoto.
“So, an supervisor after all...”
Stéphanie: “Yes, that's right, and also to announce the launch of Boruto Bleu Vortex, which will be released on Friday August 23, the day before they come.”
"And so, do you have the right to say what their requirements are?
Did they send you their requirements, like the stars do: like, Mr. Kishimoto only eats snickers? »
Stephanie: "Well, I asked if he drank alcohol, that was my first question.
Stéphanie: "I'm still waiting for the answer (*laughs*)".
We asked for the price of the ritz just in case (*laughs*).
"Afterwards, it's normal for him to make demands (laughs)."
* I skipped that part because they were just exchanging pleasantries and I was getting a bit fed up.
"Stephanie: "And so you, Stephanie, as Kana's Communications Director, are going to be one of the few people in the world who can talk to Kishimoto.
Stéphanie: "Yes, it's a chance, because I'll be the main companion for Kishimoto and Ikemoto sensei during their stay, so yes. And then there's the thing that when you accompany authors, you're not even a fan anymore, you want everything to go well, so you watch everyone and all that."
"Ah, you're firing people? (*your joker*)"
Stephanie: "Yes, because there really are cases."
Stéphanie: "Especially as we can see that there's a lot of enthusiasm on the networks, but there's also a lot of enthusiasm on the part of people who have already made threats like: "I'm anti-Boruto" and
"I don't agree with the role Sakura has" etc.... "
Stéphanie: "So actually, we were going to have security because it's too big, but now we're going to have double security."
"It's true that we're dealing with one of the most famous people in the manga world at the moment, and in the world at all."
Stéphanie: "But it's clear".
"He's in the top 100 most famous people in the world."
Stéphanie: "That's clear, especially since his last outing was in New York, for New York Comic-Con 2012, so it's better to make a big impression on him so he'll want to come back again and again."
"So you're under a bit of pressure?"
Stéphanie: "So far, so good, I'm handling the pressure as best I can (laughs)".
"What does Naruto represent for Kana today? How would you define what he represents?
Stéphanie: "Oh, a lot."
Stéphanie: "He's a nice ninja.
He was there, all cute and we adopted him with his big blue eyes" (*laughs*).
Matthieu: "Well, it's Naruto, the most important series since the beginning. After that, Kana is fortunate, as a historical publisher, to have several other series that are doing very well, but Naruto has always been a step above... at Kana and even at media participation global. Kana has the manga and we also have the merchandising rights to Naruto with Mediatoon."
Matthieu: "In fact, the whole group we're in lives largely thanks to Naruto.
Stéphanie: "That's true, and also the fact of having this 360-day Naruto allows us to be a little more efficient, to be able to react a little more, to have synergies with the anime, with merchandising etc... and today Naruto, it's over 30 million copies sold and that's simply enormous. "
Stéphanie: "Today, there are almost 130 licensees around the brand, and it's a brand that continues to prosper, as we said.
Stéphanie: "The manga ended in France in 2016, and as a result, it's just great, because we think there's a renewal of readership coming in."
"After that, it's true that the Naruto offer, tome "1-2-3" for two-three euros helps a lot to attract young readers."
Stéphanie: "We also brought out the Hokage for readers who read it on an empty stomach but still want a manga to look good in their library. So we've managed to make it a transgenerational manga."
"In France, every year since the end of the manga, volume 1 of naruto ranks in the top 5 of the best-selling volume 1s in France. "
Stéphanie: "Ah, what a handsome hokage (*laughs*)"
Matthieu: "It's funny, because One Piece and Naruto managed to do it too. These two mangas are a bit like the dragon balls of our generation, in that they have passed through a generation, as Stéphanie said. When you compare them with Fairy tail, which was the third best-selling series in the early 2010s, sometimes even ahead of naruto, Fairy tail hasn't got that far though, and sales have only gone down, *so let's be honest, if we can only have Fairy tail, we'll be very happy* but really naruto and one piece for that matter have stayed in the top 3 and never dropped."
"And even being further back, yu-gi-oh was at one point in front of naruto..."
Stéphanie: "But it didn't make it through."
Matthieu: "That was in a different market, a novelty market, whereas Fairy Tail didn't manage to hold its own in a market that's starting to live off its past, and yet Fairy Tail also has dozens of volumes, so there was plenty of material for the series to hold its own, and yet it didn't take the turn like One Pièce and Naruto did.
"Since we're talking about spin-offs, there's something planned for 2025".
Stéphanie: "Yeah, Konoha Shinden, we were talking about that earlier too."
Stéphanie: "Shueisha's idea is to keep feeding the naruto machine, so obviously right now we've released Sasuke retsuden, but there ́a other naruto spin-offs like Konoha shinden coming out next year."
* the rest is promotion for Konoha shinden and the minato spin-off which is apparently in great demand but not yet in France because of a problem with Japan.
For those who are also on Twitter, you can also find it on my account (which has the same name as this one), it's the only message that is there so there is little chance that you will miss it.

thoughts about heaven & hell (who goes where?)
(mentioned spoilers for The Owl House, Harry Potter, Naruto, and Hazbin Hotel, adn The Apothecary Diaries)
I might be wrong but as far as I'm aware there isn't a neutral place when you don't fit in either heaven or hell, it's just two extremes. Unless there is one but isn't well known, which oops. At least in like Christianity stuff I think, cause I know in other places there is a sort of middle ground or something like that.
But like. What constitutes who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell?
Do you add in changes too? Like, would Lilith from The Owl House be sent to Hell because she cursed her sister, and worked on the enemy's side the whole time? Except she regretted her decision, had a change of heart, redemption arch, and also the Emperor had tricked her into thinking there was a cure to save Eda when really he was planning on killing her.
or Amity for being a huge bully, but at heart caring for others and having followed what her parents wanted.
Like... Where do you focus more on feelings instead of actions? Do actions done that hurt people when the person themselves didn't intend to hurt them make them bad?
Or actions from emotion filled moments. Like, you can't tell me you've never gotten so angry that you do something that you regret later.
And when do the ends satisfy the means?
Emperor Belos felt like he was doing right as a witch hunter when he was killing innocent souls, but there were still people who believed that witches were evil. Would you think about biases and prejudice like that, or would you think about actions. Like, 'killed [blah blah blah] people'
Or, take Dumbledore from Harry Potter. Viewed as a hero, doing everything for the greater good, but in the end condemned a child to a horrible fate. Under scrutiny and the pressure of an entire nation watching his every move. First memories being abused by the people who should've loved him, and even earlier would be hearing his parents scream. And then led to die far too soon to end it. (I admittedly think Dumbledore did far too little)
But how do you judge that? Saved like a shit ton of people, but also was a bystander, not often doing much and more or less observing.
Molded a kid to be a savior, to save people so much older then him and effectively ruining his childhood (and while he did have fun, made friends and stuff, he could turn from most desirable to most undesirable. peoples opinion of him could change so easily, and he'd care so much about that and they'd call him a liar to his face and like-- When is that healthy?), except that kid saved everyone.
(also where do you put Draco? Objectively it'd be 'hE's deATh eATer SCUM' but also parents influence their kids a lot and it wasn't like he really had a choice? A lot of mean things he does it was because that was how he was taught, how he was raised. And when he grew up and had thoughts of his own independent of his parents, he got better)
Or like. Do you look at things objectively or emotionally?
Person brainwashed into killing a bunch of people. Do they go to hell or do they not?
I've heard people say that having shame or guilt over an action makes it clear that they care and regret it and that it doesn't make them a monster even for what they did.
At what point do you assign non compos mentis, or basically, 'not of sound mind' and can't blame a person for doing a thing?
Or what about someone who was taught to hate, for example, gay people, and so was homophobic for a part of their life. But then changed and grew? It doesn't make the people they hurt unhurt, but do they get blamed for acting that way, or do they get a pass just because they were influenced to act that way?
At what point does that became invalid? For example, Allison Argent from Teen Wolf, who was told by her hunter family that the supernatural were monsters and stuff like that. And if I recall correctly, apparently went and attacked people she knew, kids the same age as her even if they didn't really do anything. And while it isn't her fault that someone she trusted had such a flawed thought process and shared those thoughts with her, but also like. if you kill someone because you think they're a horrible person, and then it turns out they were innocent, are you guilty?
I mean. Probably. Murder is still murder no matter what, so is it just viewed objectively?
Or, like. Let's go to the world of Naruto, where child soldiers are abundant. They're taught to be entirely obedient, thus Itachi killing his whole clan due to orders. Does he get blamed for that? Probably. But who is to blame?
Also would people be at fault for teaching a child to kill?
For attacking a child, when really they're both shinobi, and both enemies and stuff like that?
Would they all be condemned?
How does the judging system even work? Cause a lot of things that are considered crimes come from our judgment of it, our law. And whatever chooses where we go, do they really care about that?
Would a person be viewed as good for having good intentions?
What is it even based upon? Cause at one point I'm pretty sure marrying kids off was perfectly legal, and that was probably normal at that point. So like, would it just be judged based off of standards from that time?
But then like, how do you get rid of the people who are assholes in Heaven? The sexists??
Like. A line from Hazbin Hotel, Episode 6, from the song 'You Didn't Know',
"If Hell is forever, then Heaven must be a lie.
If angels can do whatever and remain in the sky.
The rules are shades of grey when you don't do as you say, and you make the wretched suffer just to kill them again."
Do you re-judge the souls in Heaven? Because people change. Also, what if someone just acted nice the entire time but on the inside their thoughts were all insults and slurs and was a very hateful person?? And then once they get into Heaven, does it really matter what they do?
Well I guess angels can fall, they can be kicked out. But what if it's a bad thought process, but a process everyone shares? Like, oh, everyone in Hell is evil, they should suffer.
But if you can kick out souls from Heaven, then surely you could kick out souls from Hell right? Cause people in the wrong crowd can always have someone who genuinely cares, but it's like, one person goes down, everyone else goes down with them no matter what.
I just. Angel Dust deserves to be in Heaven and given a shit load of therapy and help and comfort and cuddles istg.
There's probably something that's like, 'rules of Heaven', or there's a description in the Bible or something, except I never read the Bible. The most I remember is like Adam and Eve, and everything else I don't really have a clue. I know Jesus ended up on a cross for I think praying for something else?? Or was that the guy who got put in like a Lion's den and then came out perfectly fine??
You wouldn't think I went to a Christian school with how little I remember from the few years I spent there haha.
ALSO ALSO I HAVE AN ADDITION
what about baby murder?
For one, there's abortions. Which, for one, I don't think is as bad as some people think because like. What if you got raped? I understand that babies are meant to be the greatest thing ever, but sometimes you can't. Or you aren't equipped to care for it and you don't want to send them where they might not even be treated well.
Two, you could also be having an abortion because the pregnancy could kill you. And it's like, does your life really matter less than someone who isn't even born yet??? Hell no. and there's also the if anything grows there that shouldnt be grown but still counting as an abortion
Now onto actual babies. Let's talk about The Apothecary Diaries, where so this girl had put this white powder makeup on the concubine and her son. Except that makeup was toxic, and she basically was slowly killing the both of them (her son died tho), but it wasn't done maliciously cause she wasn't aware it was bad.
Also there's that other person who I don't remember who killed another concubine's son because of honey
Do they get blamed objectively, for killing a newborn. Or pass because it was an accident?

It's hard to just let me post the positivity that I've gotten to 100 in a few days when I know I still haven't made any true recovery because my eye is still screaming in pain and I keep going half blind [just that eye] to full blind [both] from the stress.
Part of me know it's my fault it's it's totally probably my fault most of the stuff that is making this so traumatizing happen in 2016 it's almost been 10 years and I'm only just starting to actually get past it and work on it but everything was such a fresh wound I don't know how I could have worked on it sooner
I had no safe groups to be in I had no safe communities every fandom I was in was part of my trauma part of my issues from BITE model kin friend group to almost being part of that Gallifrey cult, that was so lucky they didn't know the character and kinda shoved me aside. From a friend group that loooved to be hypocritical and lying a lot.
Having almost 10 years away from all fandom all interactions with other people except for my caretaker [and slowly new groups] probably is the only reason I'm finally am starting to work on it
I mean I had no healthy Outlets and I didn't trust anything or anyone and now I'm slowly trying again I have no idea what fandoms to touch or what media to interact with to try to get back I used to be such a wild Explorer and I don't even know where to begin
If anybody is bothering to read this if you have any ideas or suggestions for me to try out I would love them I am genuinely putting my own into trying to finally get past this it's going to be a mess I'm going to be like a kid who just watching the fan over the first time and not know how to do anything but I want to do this
I don't want to dive right back into my old stuff before I have some kind of footing but I was heavily into, without saying direct names, old live action shows especially with high practical effects. Mostly action/drama. Horror and supernatural was common. I used to read Japanese comics a lot and watched the animations too don't get me wrong but I was always more stage shows and live.
My favourite live performance I actually am comfortable listing is the Danganronpa Live. It was so fun. Somw others I'm comfortable saying; I have seen as stage Naruto (multiple) Death Note, Inazuma Eleven, and I think it was a Biohazard? and dream to watch the One Piece Live Kabuki. So obviously I love anime/manga done live a ton.
I used to write a lot if it is an obvious I mostly did prompts I kind of was known for just getting prompts in my inbox with a ship and I just write it and that would be the main way I ever wrote I almost never did anything unprompted which is probably weird but hey
I am rambling like hell right now probably to just get this all out so I can look at it later and remember I did have a place here before it felt grasped away from me
