the entire point of the blue food was that it was the only way sally could consistently rebel against gabe without getting her or percy punished. sally is not and never was submissive in the books. percy himself says sally has "a rebellious streak, like me." however, sally and percy were under threat of serious abuse from gabe and therefore had to pick their battles. blue food was sally's way of telling percy "i am here and fighting with you" and "there is hope in the world still."

"I want Annabeth to be blonde :(" then pick up a PJO book and read it you dumb fuck
#pjo fans stop being weird about black annabeth challenge IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#first off annabeths race isnt important to her story. annabeth could be any race. her skin colour doesnt actually impact her. her hair does#now im not blonde but im a white girl so let me explain why some pjo fans need to stfu. i have grade 9s. im called stupid for my appearance#im not insulted bc im white or bc i have blue eyes or brown hair. im insulted bc women are judged on their appearance. im insulted bc SEXIS#annabeth isnt really called dumb for being blonde. shes called dumb bc shes female. and ppl are more likely to stereotype women than men#this is especially true for black women! whatever sexism white women get is always horrifically multiplied for poc women#black hair frequently gets called unprofessional untidy unhygienic etc. its VERY likely that show annabeth has been called dumb for her hai#does this make the casting “accurate”? no. but castings don't have to be accurate. they have to ADD to the character.#annabeth being black ADDS to her character because it showcases how women (esp black women) are devalued for their appearance#movie annabeth wasnt bad for having brown hair or white hair she was a bad adaptation bc she was ooc#i just think its ironic that a core aspect of annabeth was being judged for her looks. and now show annabeth is getting judged for her look#like. you guys really missed the point here.#anyways disagree all you want but book annabeth is still blonde. no one is erasing her. theres a new PJO book w blonde annabeth SEPTEMBER 2#GO READ CHALICE OF THE GODS IF U WANT BLONDE ANNABETH OMG! adaptions and source material can be separate and coexist!#rant over sorry#pjo#percy jackson#annabeth chase#pjo show#percy jackson and the olympians#the lightning thief#discourse#shitpost#percy jackson show#pjo discourse#riordanverse

The more I learn about Civil War politics, the more I'm convinced that Lincoln's most impressive and useful leadership trait was that he never let his pride get in the way of doing his job.
Other people in Lincoln's position would have come to Washington with something to prove. They'd have resented the insults and tried to disprove them. They'd have tried to seize power and credit, rejected help, spent a lot of time trying to reach a certain level of respect.
Lincoln's response to, "You're just a backwoods lawyer with no executive experience who makes too many dumb jokes," was pretty much always, "Yeah. And?" He had no interest in petty personal power plays. He had a country to run. There was a war on. It didn't matter what people thought of him so long as the job got done.
He was aware of his personal shortcomings and was always willing to accept advice and help from people who had more knowledge and experience in certain areas. He presided over a chaotic Cabinet full of abrasive personalities who thought they were better and smarter than him, but he kept working with them because they could get the job done. For example: Stanton was absolutely horrible to him when they were both working as lawyers. Just incredibly mean on a personal level. But when Lincoln needed someone to replace Cameron, he swallowed his pride and appointed Stanton as Secretary of War, where Stanton proceeded to be mean to everyone in the world, but he whipped that department into shape and kept it running efficiently through a very chaotic war. Pretty much no one except Lincoln would have been able to put up with that. He could put up with people who were personally difficult if they could do the job he needed them to do--which he was only able to do because his own ego didn't get in the way.
Lincoln's example is a prime demonstration of how humility isn't underrating yourself--it's being so secure in your own abilities and identity that you don't need to attack anyone or defend yourself to prove your worth. He knew his shortcomings, but he also knew his strengths. He was willing to give other people credit for successes and take blame upon himself for failures if it kept things running smoothly. He was secure enough in his own power that he could deal generously--but firmly--with people who tried to undermine him. In a city full of huge egos, in a profession that rewards puffed-up pride, that levelheaded humility is an extremely rare trait--which is what made it so impressive and effective.
#history is awesome#presidential talk#so i went to a teeny backwater thrift store today#their tiny history book section just happened to have an old lincoln biography#i opened to the page about the cabinet#which describes the situation like 'seward was calling himself premier and lording it over everyone'#'blair was causing problems everywhere'#'welles was insulting everyone in his diary and especially hated stanton grant and seward'#'and stanton hated absolutely everyone in the whole wide world'#and as i was reading this i was internally kicking my legs with excitement and cackling with glee because this is the good stuff#i don't know why but i love these horrible petty men#they're like a bunch of raccoons fighting over territory in a dumpster fire it's so great#i read the whole chapter right there in the store#and it impressed upon me yet again how impressive lincoln was to put up with all these guys#(the writer was a bit simplistic and made a lot of these guys come off as worse than they were)#(like he made seward sound like a complete incompetent when he was a pretty good secretary of state)#(he had some grandiose ideas but the man deserves a lot of credit for keeping england out of the war)#(but for a one-chapter summary of these guys it wasn't exactly wrong and it was a ton of fun)#i very much did not want another book especially another american history book#but it was only fifty cents and i have a pouch full of spare change#and the writer's style was so much fun that i decided to take the book with me#i don't plan to read the whole thing (i'm sick of lincoln bios) but it's fun to dip into for things like this#and i had to talk to you about it

Hmmm. The Skyrocket thing is complicated to me as a Kon fan.
I think Kon being trans is actually a good angle that works. I think a lot of the story feels like it'd be good or bad depending on execution.
I think Lara Kon-El is actually a good way to keep the Kon element of the name while changing their gender.
I think a lot off this feels... unnecessary though. Part of the problem to me is.
My big issue is that... the pitch for Skyrocket isn't there. There's a pitch for the set up, but no pitch for what Skyrocket's actual status quo would be? Is she living in Honolulu? Is she living in the same town as Jinny? Is she going to return to the future?
It's not that this is a bad take, it's more that this idea doesn't actually fix any of the underlying problems.
It's a reinvention sure, it gives them a specific unique approach, but it doesn't anchor them, or provide a new story direction? Skyrocket is a new name but it doesn't come with any suggestions for their supporting cast (other than Leland... who I have some issues with).
It's a take focusing on an end point without offering what the character will look like beyond that point.

I have this stupid romanticized fantasy where I have a teaparty book club. It's a normal book club that meets periodically but when they do it's a tea party and everyone sips teas and eats finger sandwiches and has fun being dainty while talking books.
This dream will never come true because it requires a set of impossible to achieve conditions. First a friend group or social circle of similarly inclined individuals large enough to pull from to get a group of 4-7 people big enough for interesting conversations. Second all members of said group would have to have the necessary amount for free time to actually read the book AND a consistent enough schedule to plan for and attend meetings on a regular basis. Third the only way to maintain sustainability for something like this is if either each member takes turns hosting or there is some kind of money pool and or distribution of tasks for setting up tea which is another time and resource factor that members would have to be able to afford.
And even if by some far away and out of reach middle class dreams miracle all these factors DID manage to come together it STILL wouldn't work because literally no one in my social circles like any of the books I do so I would have to read books I don't like every month or no one would join. Or more likely I'd try it for a few months just get tired of the book choice and eave and every one else would go on living my fantasy without me because just like how I never get the aux cord, no one is letting me curate the book club reading list.

People that make it a joke to be like: "Omggg the introductions to classic books are soooo annoying, why would they put so much of this useless shit here?" after they only started reading classics to be a part of the pretentious booktok fucks who read classics just to say they read them... Hi, pretentious fuck who always reads the introduction... It is literalllyyy a free literary analysis you dipshits. If you're reading some abstract shit, well it was written that way and people have been trying to read and interpret it since it was published. There is 200% popular explanations or theories of the plot there, if not straight up quotes from an authors diary/notes on their process and intentions for writing their novel (if those were left behind by the author). Fun facts, relevant historical context, translation deep-dives (which are fucking great btw, translation is an art and even the best translations will always lose something) and more. Honestly, people bragging about not reading it is like. ok fine whatever. To call it useless is just indicative that you are a VITCIM of the media comprehension crisis. If you're just going to parrot some rando from tiktok who summarized the plot (badly) in fortnite terms (do not recommend) read the fkn intro instead. If you're not going to try analyze the book yourself, or if you don't know where to start- read the intro!!!111!!! I am old enough (21. sarcasm.) to remember the time when the media lit crisis was in full swing before Lolita blew up on tiktok where people were making the most bare bones, surface level interpretations of it, calling the author and people who liked the book pedophilic. Saying they didn't know why it was a classic because it was just some old man's sick fantasy. I'm pretty sure there are old arguments on this blog of me trying to explain it to people. Nabokov was very open about the true meaning of his novel, there were many resources for people on and offline, plus the book that I had (not special, from library and then one from B&N) had an intro AND author's note. Yet people only got it when it was oversimplified for them on tiktok? Introductions are literally some nerd who was so obsessed with the author/book that you're reading that they who wrote something (barely anything usually, not a fucking lot) to help you understand the book better. Obviously, its meant to be supplementary and you can and should find your own meaning. Plus, usually for compiled works, the introduction are the guy(s) who made the fucking book, but ofc they are only credited in the intro (& copyright page) because they didn't write it. Surprise, people actually have to pick what works go into those types of books. Intros are usually just: "wow, I love this author so much that I did research on their entire life, read every single word they left on this earth, read 50 decades of analysis of their works and researched the era they lived in to understand why and what they wrote the wrote better, " and you mfs that don't even read it call it useless. fuck you. Oh and before anyone with -80 IQ reads this and gets upset, if you want to avoid spoilers for the 103935405739 year old book, read it after you finish the book...

guys I think I'm funny. @error404vnotfound @olive-riggzey
I played around with omniscient and I found new and exciting ways to insult Kai (affectionate).
Context is Kai is an innkeeper, and he's giving Azrail the elf a place to stay (begrudgingly). I have silly out-of-context quotes attached below for your leisure.
Curiously, he stood, ready to see who was at the door. It was the master from the night before, who looked no more grouchy in the early hours of the morning. That was because he always looked grouchy no matter what time of day it was.
Master Kai would never admit it, but he almost felt bad for being so rude to the elf, Azrail. It was no fun being grouchy to someone who was consistently polite back. Although, in Master Kai’s case instead of this making him kinder, it only made him more upset.
Azrail frowned in a way that made him look like a sad small dog. However, Master Kai’s heart was sufficiently hardened, and he did not budge in his stance. Or at least he would not budge in his stance quite yet. Even the toughest of men can only say no to pathetic small dogs so many times.
And ofc, we insult Azrail too.
“What was that sound?” Legolas asked. [Kai had slammed shut when he was sleeping] “I suppose the wind blew the door shut,” Azrail lied. Like most people when tired, Legolas was too fatigued to question the reality of Azrail’s poorly strung lie. Such truths are difficult to decipher when one’s mind is fogged from waking after fitful sleep and one’s stomach is growling uncomfortably. We can forgive Legolas for forgetting that no wind would blow in the depths of the mountain. However, we are less forgiving of Azrail for not thinking of a better lie.

-randomly sees a screenshot of jamie and lily from the city of bones movie, where they seem to embody jace and clary, and am once again sad that we didn't get a city of ashes movie-
#like. to be clear. i KNOW that the city of bones movie has flaws--and i can tell you what they all are--but for me at least the positives#outweigh the negatives#and one of those things is that the cast really was perfect imo (and a lot of other people's opinions too)#though that's not to insult the shadowhunters cast at all of course. i think they're great and did the best with what they were give#i. personally. just don't really like shadowhunters because of how much they changed from the books#and even outside of that--if i ignored book to show comparisons--at least with the first season (the only one i watched) a lot of the#choices they were making with their own rules they were making didn't make a lot of sense. though i hear it gets better if season one so#maybe i should give it another chance sometime...#but back to city of ashes... i feel like. if city of bones had done well. city of ashes could have been better than city of bones and even#more book accurate (since that was some fans' issues with the first film) since the studio would have realized there was an audience there#and to take it more seriously. we've seen that kind of thing before. like with how the twilight movies actually became more book accurate#after the first film was a success#though that's not the world we live in of course. -sighs- oh well#maybe someday we'll get a really good and accurate tmi adaptation#i'm also looking forward to/cautiously optimistic about the the infernal devices show. PLEASE don't mess it up. PLEASE#that's my--and many--fans' favorite of the shadow world series. and it could/should be SO good. PLEASE!

All da ladies love Leo.
First time drawing any character from HoO and of course I had to start with the Bad Boy Supreme. I really liked the result, and the style looks pretty cool too.
I’m starting my next one, but that is a surprise :3

so last week i took out the recycling, right. normal behavior. but then i made an enemy. his name is a housefly. there are actually two of them and it's been such a miserable couple of days because even when i try to shoo them out the windows/doors they won't go. they just buzz around my head and land on my food and it sucks. so today i was like, enough is enough, i'll make a fly trap, which is something i know how to do. BUT. the way you do it involves a plastic bottle that you cut in half. and i took out the recycling last week and i try not to use a lot of single-use plastics anyways. so i don't have any bottles for the fly trap. so i go, okay, my apartment complex has a vending machine, i'll go there and get something. it's 4pm. i arrive at the vending machine. i ask it for a 7-UP. it gives me a coca cola. i go okay, fine, i don't really want to fight with the vending machine, i'll just drink this. again: it's 4pm. i am very sensitive to caffeine. i just am. i thought maybe this time wouldn't be so bad. i think you can tell by the way this post is written that it's hitting me hard

When do we stop shaming people for not having read the comics? Dead serious. It's time to accept that maybe not everybody can find every Moon Knight, Spiderman, and She-Hulk issue cover to cover and read it.
Cuz my Marvel Comics app charges like $15 per issue when there's oh maybe about 12000 comics from the past 50 to 80 years I need to read to understand the MCU and I only get the first 4 pages of each for free. I have no choice but to google the most iconic pages of Civil War or YouTube videos that have to paraphrase 45 X-Men issues in 12 minutes to explain the ToP 15 EaStEr EgGs YoU mIsSeD iN tHe fInAlE oF lOkI, or Marvel Wiki in hopes to understand slivers of the dynamic of character's relationships, the scope of their powers and abilities, every B list character's background story, who hasn't Tony Stark gone out with, the moral ambiguity of the Punisher, who joined the Avengers and then quit and then rejoined and then quit again, why Felicia Hardy is an Iron (?) Cat (?) etc etc etc and hope to understand characterisation, tone, and accuracy of events in order to judge the quality of cinematic adaptations to source material I only have access to like 6% of.
So next time you want to explain how every MCU movie is unwatchable and when someone who likes it disagrees you retort with "they've never read the comics" like please send a check for three hunnit to get them started on some comics, Mr Geekier-Than-Thou Comic Guru. C'mon buddy, help me out, open your purse. Otherwise like honestly shut up. I can't speak for everyone, but my lack of comic reading is because I'm lower middle class and don't have hundreds of dollars to gain access to a century of comics. Not because I'm an illiterate neanderthal that can only take in information through pretty moving pictures or whatever elitism fans with access to comics have. I have many hobbies that I can't sustain financially. Others don't have enough time to sit down and read 90 Fantastic Four issues. Some people just don't care because paper pages don't explode on in 3D with action music blasting in the background.
And thank you to all the nice geeks that don't gatekeep Marvel and make helpful videos or internet posts that are meant to help guide people into better understanding of the comics and how the movies pertain to them. Especially the ones that were there when the MCU was just in phase one. And even the OG Spiderman, F4 and X-Men films before then. It couldn't possibly cover everything, but it's helped a lot through the years ❤️

aw i wanted to read house in the cerulean sea 🤧 is it bad? or to each their own?
It's definitely a matter of taste I think! It depends on what you like in a story. For me I found it a bit corny and shallow and overly preachy, but obviously my friend who picked it absolutely loved it, so it's a subjective thing. We have pretty contrasting tastes most of the time anyway it seems. She LOVES fantasy and hates anything set in mundane reality or that's depressing and dark, and I think my favourite book we read in the club was also her least favourite one too hahaha
