my dib headcanons :] some are things ive already posted before but idc it goes in the list.

- he's unlabeled, doesn't really think about his sexuality or gender or anything like that. doesn't care.

- idle games are his favorite kind of mobile games <3

- he wears skirts sometimes.

- he gets clothes from whatever the invader zim universe's version of hot topic is, and he thinks he looks sooo cool. yes he gets teased for this.

- sometimes he's creepy/unsettling without even trying to be, for example often times startling people cuz they don't realize he's even there at first, which gives them the illusion of him sneaking up on them.

- he is NOT good at remembering the "don't feed the trolls" rule of the internet. if you make fun of his posts about his paranormal experiences he WILL have many things to say to you about it. gaz always warns him about cutting that out but does he listen?

- if he doesn't wear his glasses he can't see ANYTHING. one time zim stole his glasses and wore them but it was. not pleasant for him.(either of them, really.)

- he wants to start a podcast but nobody wants to be on it. gee i wonder why.

- he believes in astrology, he also has a tarot card deck. - but he's also an atheist. pretentious about it. - he started his own website at some point due to being sick and tired of people on the truthshrieker forums being jerks to him, because hopefully he could cultivate his own fanbase of people who do take him seriously? i wonder how that's going for him. and yes there is an entire section of it dedicated to zim.

Synopsis: You don't check the news often enough, so when civilians were warned against walking near or through a certain area you were none the wiser... Giving your stalker a chance to save you from doom.

Luminary x Reader.

Warnings: Mentioned stalking, kidnapping, not edited at all :(.

You had a routine. Get up bright and early for your 7 AM office job, get to work, come home at 2 PM, relax for 2 or so hours, then go out for a short walk at the park near your apartment. You never really deviate from your usual walking pattern, yet today you felt adventurous– Ironic, of all days to be adventurous and wander off to a new path that same exact path ends up being infested with blood-lusted slime creatures from the dark abyss of this world.

Obviously you thought something was off but you just could not put your finger on it! Sure it was creepy how as you kept walking the area got quieter, lonelier, darker, but you just thought that there was some superhero nearby and everyone wanted a picture with them, that has happened before. Or maybe today just wasn’t your day, your natural ‘hey this feels dangerous let’s turn back’ system may be experiencing some difficulties… And now you find yourself running faster than you have ever run in your life. Leaping away from the hungry monsters attempting to catch you and devour you.

These slimy demons had popped up a few decades ago, a few years after the sudden appearance of super humans. No one knows where either came from, how they sprung, or the exact science behind their sudden appearance. But now they’re here, not a lot of people get blessed with super powers, and those who do immediately get enlisted, either by their own will or their parents force them to when they’re young. Some people don’t enlist even with superpowers, some people have such rare superpowers that they’re forced into the work field, those people mostly being healers and supernaturally intelligent people.

You were none of those, a normal average human, with a normal average job, and a normal average routine. And here you were, endangering your life, for your stupid physical health. Not like you’d have any of your physical health after this, you’re going to be in a monster’s stomach in about 5 minutes. You already were slowing down, the constant zig zagging decreasing your stamina fast. Looking back at the monsters chasing you.

What you didn’t expect was to stumble over an exposed cable, falling flat on your face, your ears start ringing, blocking out the noises of your own panting and whimpering as well as the monster's evil noises. You immediately huddled into the fetal position, as if it would minimize any of the tormenting pain you’ll be feeling soon but… nothing, no ripping of the skin, no crushing of the bones, no hearts being slowly devoured by evil monsters. None of it.

Yet you kept your eyes clenched shut, maybe the monsters are confused with your stupidity that they just stood there processing before they finally have at it. Slowly the ringing in your ears subsided, and you heard nothing, no growling monsters or anything, nothing other than your own panting, as well as… footsteps? The sound of a sly chuckle startles you, causing you to crack open your eyes and you were greeted by the shining bright smile of the world famous superhero, Luminary.

Luminary– A man of unnaturally strong power, he was invincible, untouchable. You liked him enough for saving the city many times before but didn’t really idolize him, superhero or not he still was a human with human emotions, whatever people say about him online can still affect him. So you kept to yourself when it came to superhero affairs. But from the short snippets you’d see online you had a lot in common with him, shows, interests, hobbies. You always thought that it was all a carefully crafted lie to make him seem more relatable to the average plebeians, or whatever who knows.

You were star struck, ironically enough you wanted to act normal around him but you couldn’t even form words. Luminary’s shining smile still pointed towards you. He held out his hand, intending for you to grasp at it and use it to steady yourself up. “Hello there! I take it you haven’t seen the news this morning, huh? Haha! No worries, your trusty hero is always there to save you.” You just sat there gaping up at him, the personal embodiment of a star.

Maybe it was the exhaustion, the shock, or the superhero in front of you, but you fainted, completely collapsed, thankfully you didn’t hit your head since you were already lying down.

Luminary had watched you run for your life from the creatures earlier. But he couldn’t care less of them, his eyes were on you, the person he’s had a crush on since the 11th grade, you never knew of his existence but he didn’t care, he’ll eventually weasel his way into your life but right now he’s content on stalking you. Or so he thought, until you endangered your life and almost got yourself killed when you tripped.

Seeing the once in a lifetime opportunity to weasel his way into your life. Luminary picked you right off the dirty ground, his heartbeat accelerating, every little part of you he touches feels like electricity. Years of one sided obsession and just now is he making contact with you, practically committing himself to abstinence just for you. Luminary felt like a schoolgirl as he giggled at the sight of you resting your head on his shoulder. Luminary’s flight home was delightful, you smelt amazing, and you even snuggled into him in your sleep! He could just explode! Once he entered his humble abode, Luminary placed you on his bed, his eyes practically turning heart shaped at the thought of late night cuddles with you…

you know what i noticed about kataang shippers is that, they have made multiple blogs (even titled in the url) fully dedicated to bashing zutara. like whole blogs full of nothing but hating zutara and everyone who ships it.

i don't see the reverse. yes, there are zutara blogs with lots of aang/kataang critical posts. but these blogs also have content that's focused on zutara (posting about the ship you actually do like! imagine that!) and most are content creators as well. i can't think of any blogs that are purely anti-kataang or even mostly anti-kataang.

idk to me it just seems like zutara shippers are better about staying in our lane and enjoying what we like instead of devoting *that* much energy to hating ✌️

Oh definitely, I think in the past few years I’ve seen two blogs called something along the lines of “Zutara isn’t canon” and post nothing but angry anons whining about people shipping Zutara. And of course, the “fandom police” guy who is very obviously a right winger poorly applying social justice concepts in an attempt to win ship discourse, and who thinks anything non-canon is stupid.

It’s funny because how do you miss the point of fandom this badly? It’s transformative. There are only so many ways to tell the exact same story. There is a reason why it’s very common for non-canon ships to be more popular among fans than canon. It taps into the creative aspect that so many of us enjoy.

And for Zutara specifically, I’m actually glad it isn’t canon. I like that it’s open-ended and that I’m free to write it however I want, because to be completely honest, I think the creators would have completely botched it if it was canon. I mean, I actually like Maiko quite a bit too but I don’t like how rushed their ending felt. I don’t like how it felt like Mai reappeared to be Zuko’s prize. And given the straight up creepy things I’ve heard the creators say about Zutara over the years, I have no doubt they would have made me hate it via poor writing.

Plus you’re right, at the end of the day, fandom is about enjoying what you want to enjoy. Making entire blogs dedicated to telling people they’re stupid because they don’t adhere to canon as if it’s a religious doctrine doesn’t seem like you’re enjoying yourself too much. Sure, I’ve made posts critical of tropes, characters, relationships, etc. that I don’t like, but ultimately I spend my energy on what I actually do like.

Here's Achilles' family tree per my Caroline Alexander translation:

I don't have a digital copy of Emily Wilson's translation, but it is relatively similar.

As you can see, Patroclus is not in the family tree.

Homer does mention Patroclus' father, Menoetius, a few times. He also mentions that Menoetius is the son of Aktor (or Actor). No mention of a mother.

Pindar suggest's Menoetius' mother being Aegina. Sound familiar? It should because Aegina had Aeacus who had Peleus.

Weird, right? Wouldn't that make Patroclus a peer of Peleus. Of course Aegina is a nymph and and nymphs are immortal, so a generation could have passed between her having her two sons.

I remain skeptical. I think if Patroclus had such a famous mother she would probably be mentioned by Homer as Thetis was mentioned. BUT THEN AGAIN these people were SUPER sexist so 🤷‍♀️

So given it's not explicit in Homer and the connection and understanding of other sources is dodgy at best, it's really a matter of how /you/ want to define what is canon.

Is your canon The Iliad? Is it the entire Epic Cycle which we only have parts of? Or is your canon all works of Ancient Greece?

I mentioned this in another post, Greek mythology is fucking frustrating for this very reason. We know of a bunch of ancient authors who wrote about mythology and they each had their own headcanons. And of course no two headcanons are the same, just to fuck with us some more I swear.

At least in various civilizations in Europe, marrying your first cousin was a thing up through the mid-20th century. Just Google search any European royal family. We mainly only now find it "weird" or "creepy" bcs of our modern understanding of genetics.

Google is telling me it was common in some periods and some areas of Ancient Greece. So if they were cousins, it most likely would not have been considered "icky" by their contemporaries through Homer. I mean those ppl in Athens created ritualized pedophilia so I think cousin incest is pretty tame in comparison

Many of the headcanons floating out there by all these dead famous white men are contradictory. For example: there are multiple versions of how Achilles gained his powers, there are multiple versions of Achilles' death. It can't all be true! So pick what you like and move on. Or better yet, make up your own canon for yourself! Don't stress about it.

i'm not gonna tell people to ignore their intuition cuz 1: that's hella unsafe cuz intuition can be useful 2: it doesn't really help either party if you try to force yourself to befriend someone you Just Don't Like. but like.

i think a lot of times when neurotypicals mention like "i don't know what it is about that person, they just weird me out" the thing that they're subconsciously picking up on is just... autism.

like, just existing with autism feels like i am constantly exuding the social equivalent of the uncanny valley effect. growing up autistic felt like i was walking around with a face that looked like a haunted doll. and i learned all the tricks to make my face less scary to others, to cover it up, to over-compensate and make myself seem friendly and inviting in spite of the face. and it helped and people don't quite mock or revile me like they used to. but i still worry that there's still something about me that makes people seem to avoid me, often without them even consciously noticing they're doing it. and it's no one's fault but it just kinda sucks.

at least there are my fellow haunted dolls out there who understand. who don't see my porcelain face as something vaguely Wrong, who just see a face like theirs.

[Just a general reminder for those who roleplay: make sure you don't dictate other characters' actions and feelings in your asks and replies ☺️ Nobody wants to have their autonomy taken away! If you really want to make your intent known, instead of writing "He hugs her" try "He makes a move to hug her", "He attempts to hug her", "You can see it in his eyes that he wants to hug her", and so on. That way the other character can change the narrative if they are uncomfortable 🫂. But even in that case they are not obligated to reply and you should respect that.

And if you think that nobody is interested in your blog — I guarantee it's not the case! Chances are, not that many people know about your OC/MC/character you play so try to put yourself out there! Engage with people! Send asks, write replies, do reblogs, DM if you have any questions or if it puts your mind at ease before plunging into rp! I know it's hard if you're a shy or reserved person. But nobody else can solve this for you 🫂 ]

it's wild to me how people get facts and logic very quickly about their faves whilst ignoring how hard it is to ever have evidence of creepy behaviour between you and a stranger you met in person.

Ultimately the nature of interactions is that you can't always provide a citation for everything that happens.

Braun's behaviour at Ray's, in itself, could be just regular consensual fun between adults—though imo a little pathetic because in essence he's created a fan farm from which, on any given night, he can thwap a willing woman's body out of the pile like a salmon from a pen. So, whatever, if we're going facts and logic about this: disregard.

But is it more believable that the tiktoker—a young woman, who has pictures, who knows that by saying this she is inviting a huge amount of negative attention—is lying, or that Nicholas Braun did in fact try to sleep with her despite knowing she was a minor?

Sometimes people allege things that aren't true. Mitski did not, for example, traffic children(!), and that was obvious from the jump. But what about this scenario rings as unbelievable to you? Is it because he's tall and goofy? Did you see him cover Non-Threatening Boys and internalise it as fact? What more evidence should she, or could she, have obtained in that scenario?

Like, sure, the story about him actually sleeping with a different girl the same age is technically hearsay, but this isn't a literal court. I feel pretty fucking comfortable saying that the meat of the tiktoker's story—everything about what happened to her personally—is enough for me to form a conclusion.

....the other funny thing about lie theory/threat theory is that in case it is true it makes the entire Final Fifteen an incredibly clever game with the Kuleshov effect.

Like, is this man-shaping being almost teary-eyed because of his incredible good news and overflowing happiness? Or is he terrified because of The Metatron observing him through the window, and can hardly contains himself from screaming in terror?
