Chapter 11.
--------------
Lucy had always cared about her appearance.
Although her dad had always pressured her to be feminine, she felt a sense of freedom when she dressed herself. Not in the way he wanted, of course. The way she wanted.
His idea of natural blush, hair tightly wound and holding the air of a lady when she was young wasn’t something that Lucy had enjoyed in her childhood. Her private tutor made sure that she could hold an aspirin between her knees at all times. It made her father proud seeing her with a head held high and back straight as a board - the look of a daughter he could be proud of.
It wasn’t until her late teens that she enjoyed fashion. No longer being held to the confines of what she had to wear, Lucy made bold choices - Many that were met with disapproval. It was exhilarating to learn new makeup looks and try out a pop of colour. Not that it was drastic by any normal person's standards, but to Lucy - she couldn’t contain the confidence she felt. When she was able to choose her own looks, her own sense of self, she felt empowered and it gave her some control. That’s what Lucy had thought.
It was silly, but it brought a sense of gratification that she didn’t think anyone could take away from her. They could try, just like her father had, but she would always bring her own flare to every style. It’s what she had always been drawn to about beauty.
Her fingers traced over the cut on her lip first, brown eyes staring back at her whilst she looked in the mirror. Yet, it didn’t look like her. The Lucy she saw was unfamiliar. Her skin was marred.
She looked ugly.
Staring back at herself, she felt like she was looking at a different person. Her chest felt numb whilst she pulled her eyes over every inch of herself that was available in Natsu’s small mirror. She had to swallow back the pain that she felt building in her chest, throat dry as she tried to bring some moisture into her mouth.
The Lucy she saw wasn’t one her father would be proud of. It wasn’t even someone that she was proud of.
The bruises on her neck had begun to turn yellow at the edges, resembling a smudge rather than the hand print that had previously painted the area on her pale skin. The cuts were scabbed over now, if they weren’t sloppily wrapped by Natsu’s persistent care. Her eyes were bloodshot with a dark purple lining underneath them, showing the world of the sleepless nights she had since she had left Jackal.
Lucy didn’t feel beautiful. And no matter how many times she carefully dabbed at her face, or held a tea bag against her eye hoping the bruising would clear, it stayed. It had dulled slightly, but Natsu had said those marks would be lingering for a while longer.
Her brown eyes flickered to the door, listening to the quiet mumbles of her ‘new roommate’ and Gray, a friend of Natsu’s. Their voices were too hushed for her to know what they were talking about.
She assumed it was about her.
How crazy Natsu was for letting her stay here- How much of an idiot he was for getting involved with someone like her. Lucy had more than her share of baggage, and it was spilling shamelessly out into the open for everyone else to clean up.
She knew Gray was close to telling her to get out himself, or building Natsu’s courage to tell her that it was a mistake that he invited her in. A mistake to let her stay - she was a mistake.
It wasn’t Natsu’s responsibility to pick up after her.
Her eyes burned. They felt raw from how many times she cried and furiously wiped at them. She didn’t want to cry. It was too late to cry, but everytime she looked at the face staring back at her in the glass mirror, pools were forming in her eyes. It was the pathetic face of someone ugly. Stained and tarnished.
-
The dinner table had been pushed against the wall. Two chairs were missing from the side that now kissed the wall, the other two tightly tucked on the other side. Lucy became accustomed with the space that she now lived, the width of a single mattress between the side of the couch and one of the legs of a dining room chair.
The bed was bare, slightly beaten and worn. It was Gray's roommates, but he had no use for anymore. Now gifted to Natsu’s roommate - to her. Lucy heard brief mentions of the city that he had moved to after his mum died, but the two men weren’t talking to her. They spoke quietly, in sentences that weren’t finished and were left hanging between them as they stared at each other and Lucy’s new home. The space between the couch and the chair on Natsu’s floor.
Gray gave Natsu a hard pat on the back. “If you need anything else just let me know.”
“Mm,” Natsu let out a sigh. “Thanks.”
Lucy looked up only to meet the dark haired man's stare. He didn’t say anything, only a curt nod and an uneasy pull of the lips before he gave Natsu another pat down and flicked his keys from his pocket before opening the front door.
“See ya!”
Natsu waved, and the fly wire shut with a rattle and a bang leaving the two alone. He stared hard at the mattress, a deep frown sinking onto his face and Lucy resisted the urge to shift her gaze. The air between them had been uncomfortable. Not much had been said, but not much needed to be. Natsu had been a silent protector, holding her as she screamed whilst she lost everything. Her marriage and her house. Her job.
“How are you feeling?” His eyes were on her now and she resisted the urge to squirm in place.
Lucy twitched the sides of her lips up in a feigned smile. “Better.” She looked away as she took in a breath, nodding towards the mattress. “Thank you for all this.”
She had been sleeping in Natsu’s bed for the time being. He had taken the couch. Not that it helped. Lucy couldn’t tell him that she didn’t sleep in that room. She couldn’t. She lay awake the first night and soon she preferred to sit on the floor until the sunrise. The room was painful to be in. This house was painful. Lucy wasn’t thankful at all. She rather wished that she were dead.
Though, she pushed those thoughts down. It was only when she curled up in a ball and wept in the middle of the night that she truly wished that she would sink beneath the surface of the earth. It was much easier to be dead.
“Mm.” The sound of the newly familiarised hum met her ears. “I’ll get you something to eat.”
Lucy twined her fingers together, digging her thumbs into her palms as she nodded. “Sure.” Natsu had started ‘the hum of disappointment,’ as she called it, shortly after they started living together. It was around every corner of bad news that they continued to stumble across, to fill in the awkward lull as they made small talk and walked the invisible roads to avoid each other as much as possible.
“Okay.” He skulked towards the kitchen, beginning to bang around as he pulled out the staple food that they had both been living off for the past two weeks. Cornflakes.
Lucy made her way to sit across from him on the island bench. It had taken her a while to pick up her appetite again. She didn’t feel hungry, only a sort of ache that started from the back of her throat all the way down to her stomach. She felt empty, but everytime she found the will to start eating, nausea replaced it. It turned to sickly mush in her mouth, much too sweet and much too bitter.
Cornflakes she found the easiest. Natsu liked to mix his with a cigarette and some sort of drink. Most of the time it was black coffee. This morning it was orange juice and vodka. Lucy screwed up her face.
Natsu’s eyes flickered to her face, lazily finishing the cereal as they ate in silence. This was what their meals looked like now. Cold milk and silver spoons clinking on Natsu’s chipped and cheap bowls.
If this had been before… Well, if they had made it out of bed. Lucy would’ve made a comment on the state of his dishware - a cheeky remark that would’ve possibly got her an elbow to the ribs, furrowed brows as Natsu wound his fingers between hers and said something in that voice he does just before he’s about to do something… mischievous.
“Oh come on, Luce.”
And Lucy would’ve laughed, smiling ear to ear as he trapped her in her seat and covered her with kisses. First to her neck as she squirmed in place until he began to leave a wet trail up her cheek with his tongue-
“Is everything okay?” Natsu’s voice cut in, the concern already thick in his tone as he slowly began to lower his spoon back down. “Is it the Cornflakes? I know…” He sighed. “I should really get you something proper to eat.”
“Mm.” Lucy pulled her eyes down.
That was before though. Now they sat together in silence until Natsu could feel even the slightest change in her face, the slightest hint that she could possibly be feeling dull and he would pounce on her. Lucy could see him berate himself in his eyes at every turn. The wear in his face showed that this was taking its toll on him. She felt as if she was his in house patient and he was at fault for the condition that she was in.
“No, no… no.” She poked around the cereal. “Just…” Lucy cleared her throat. “It’s a little early in the day for a drink, isn’t it?”
“Sometimes a day calls for drinking.”
His whole face had been turned upside down, lines dragging down his eyes and mouth into a permanent grimace. She knew it was because of her. Natsu was tired. Tired of looking after some stranger who he thought was just a casual fling. She felt the tiniest twinge pull up the side of her mouth, a sick feeling to laugh because what else could she do. This was barely meant to be a one night side, her own self pity getting the better of her as she tried to show herself the love she couldn’t give to herself with a man she didn’t know.
Lucy’s stomach flipped.
Natsu used to be someone who always had a smile on his face, a certain light to his eyes that Lucy found an escape in. What she used to live through. Sure, he had his many habits from a heart that had been run a little thin. But, it was still warm and was welcoming people through the front door. Now he looked cold - like wet coals on a suffocated fire. And Lucy was the storm that snuffed him out.
She put down her spoon. The cereal had become soggy and she didn’t feel like she could muster up her small appetite again. Lucy squeezed her hand around the edges of the stool, not tearing her gaze from the bowl. Her chest was filling up, squeezing tight around her bones as she tried to dismiss the flashes. The moments that led her to this moment, thinking of Jackal-
Natsu huffed, dragging a hand down his face. “I’m sorry. It was a late shift last night. I’m just tired.”
He looked up to the clock that Lucy had always lectured him about being set an hour and 32 minutes and 5 seconds ahead. She knew because she had timed it herself - a silly joke that escalated too quickly. She hadn’t made that comment in awhile.
“It’ll be another late one tonight too I imagine.” He didn’t meet her eyes as he returned to down the rest of his glass. His finger thumbled along the bench as he put it down, letting the silence sink into both of them.
Lucy couldn’t say much of anything.
Natsu sucked on his teeth, dark eyes drawn to the cup as if he was thinking about what he was going to say. Or maybe, he was waiting for her to speak. She wasn’t sure anymore. Her mind was not giving her much relief about either two outcomes.
He hopped up. “Well, I really need to shower. Le’me know if you need anything.” Natsu stretched, before his hands fell - one almost reaching out to clasp her shoulder. But he recoiled, a wince coming onto his face as his eyes seemed to recognise her appearance once more - reminding him of the position they were in. “I-I’ll try to get some stuff from the shops soon.”
When she heard the click of the bathroom door Lucy made a move to gather the dishes. It wasn’t much, but she had been silently showing her gratitude for all Natsu had done for her by trying to keep the house tidy. She’d make sure there was a blanket and pillow on the couch, his work clothes were clean for him by the time he had to get ready in the morning and there wasn’t a trace that anyone, besides himself, breathed in the house. She pulled up her long sleeves, pushing out large puffs of air through her nose.
Lucy knew she was already crying. It wasn’t something that she was in control of anymore. It didn’t take long for her breathing to become laboured, shaky exhales leaving her as she tried to hold it in, but the sound of her sniffling already reached her ears. The hot flush in her face told her that she was as fragile as glass while her hands under the running water became blurry. She failed at rubbing her face with her forearm, biting on her tongue to quiet her sniffles as she cleaned the bowls.
There were so many reasons for her to be crying at this moment. Her body still ached in places where Jackal had touched her, just taking a breath was painful. He had taken everything from her - broken most of her belongings. Lucy felt like it had been her own fault, but because of that man she couldn’t leave the house. What could she have told everyone at work? It was one thing to pass off a couple of irregular bruises on her arms and legs, but her face? The damage that he had caused wasn’t something she could write off to someone. It was his fault that she got fired. That she had absolutely nothing to her name because he had used everything that she had.
On himself.
That she had thought that she had loved him and he chose to tear their life apart.
But the only thing she could think of was the guilt that was tearing her apart. The feeling of how she was no better than her husband as she continued to use the man that still opened his home to her after she had lied to him.
Pathetic. That’s how Lucy had felt. She didn’t know who she was anymore, what kind of person she had turned into. But, it wasn’t someone that she could be proud of. A few wrong turns… A few mistakes and somehow she ended up here.
As she switched off the water, her lips tugged down. The feeling that she greeted with open arms, once again sat within her chest. It had been making frequent visits before, but now it had permanently taken residence. The weight filled her rib cage as she gripped the edge of the bench whilst she furiously wiped at her eyes - ragged breaths, in and out.
Most of all she was guilty for feeling sorry for herself.
Her father had always called her a stupid little girl, and now she believed it. How stupid could she have been. Not only had she fooled herself with fantasies that Jackal was going to whisk her away, the first man to ever take the plunge to ask her on a date, but tricked herself a second time. Her hands tangled in her hair, in what world was Natsu going to be the ‘fix’ for her life. And not only had she ruined her own life but brought him along with her.

Violet Moon: Chapter 3
In case you missed the previous messages about this story. I decided to update it once a year by Halloween up until it’s conclusion. Hopefully you all enjoy and don’t mind the wait!
[Chapter 4]
@doginshoe  @saintartemis @mochibnm  @sevenlaila  @squeep123   @humongoushorsepiebonk (If you asked to be tagged and don’t see your tag here: blame tumblr. It wouldn’t let me tag you. That being said, if you’d LIKE to be tagged, feel free to let me know!)
Halloween came too fast.
Natsu dreaded the countdown of hours leading to the day he awoke with the harsh tones of his phone stuck in a constant mix of ringing and ignored voicemails. Something was happening. Groaning, he rolled to his side, ignoring the bright beam of yellowed sunlight that burst through the split of his curtains and checked the time on the bright white of his digital screen.
1pm.
Positively scandalous to wake him this early on the last day of October. He’d like to file a complaint. Wiping the sleep from his eyes, he perused the notifications with dwindling interest, deleting one after the other as a loud yawn escaped, baring his fangs wide to the emptiness of the room.  He froze when he came to the voicemails. Ten. “... they couldn’t figure out I was sleeping after the third one, huh?”
It couldn’t be helped. He flopped back into his mass of puffy pillows (all gifts from Lucy after she claimed he cuddled the life out of anything nearby in his sleep-) and hit play.
“This is a reminder call for all of my brats! Be at the conservation by six! Don’t be late.”
“That goes EXTRA for you, Natsu!”
He grimaced. How did that old geezer, Makarov,  just know to call him out like that? So what if he slept in until 8pm last year? They were going to be up all night! Scratching his stomach, he rolled over again, wrangling up pillows and what was left of his sheets as he went, grumbling as the next voicemails played.
“Did you get the message Natsu? You’re going to really get it if you’re late this time. Not just from Makarov, but me.” Erza. Now that brought a chill down his spine. “Please be late. I would love to watch you get your ass handed to you.” Stupid Gray, get off my phone.
“Hey kid! Just got in town this morning and didn’t see you at the loft with the others! Get there on time tonight and we can see if you’ve gotten any stronger, yeah?” Gildarts! Now that was a shame he missed that one.  Last year’s tussles were a mess with how much that old wolf put everyone else to shame. Natsu made a note to text him a challenge when he wasn’t feeling half as lazy,
Delete. Delete. Delete. The others were mass varieties of the same thing. Repeated reminders to make sure he got the first ones. Boring. Half his pillows were on the floor now and Natsu had a mind to join them. Would Lucy mind if he bit the feathers out of a few? He was restless.
“Hey sleepyhead! I bet you’re still asleep aren’t you?” Speaking of Lucy, Natsu perked up at the sound of her voice: the final message. “Wanted to wish you a Happy Halloween! Wish I could see you, but I guess I’ll settle with our adventure the other day.  I hope work isn’t too hard tonight.” A pang of guilt. A mix of happiness she even bothered. His life was a mess. “... I guess it’s a little weird to say I miss you when we usually see each other weekly, so uh- well, just call me when you’ve got time. We can hang out next week? Anyway, uhm, well… b-bye!” Why did she sound so flustered there? She really was weird. Natsu’s grin was fastened in place as he replayed the message, pushing his phone's volume to its peak until a shrill tininess entered Lucy's recorded voice.
He was awake now.  Tossing the phone into the depths of his sheets, he bounded off the mattress and rushed to the bathroom. The faster the night was done, the faster they could hang out like normal again.
He didn’t notice the next message that popped up on the screen.
‘... why does your shop say it’s closed for the day? ‘
He would completely forget to check for the rest of the night.
‘Natsu?’
The Magnolia Conservation Center was a place often filled with tourists looking to enjoy the forested park or explore the Museum of Natural History. It often boasted a wide variety of fossils, fauna and flora history that schools often planned Field Trips to see and a playground in the shapes of the wild animals that roamed the area. Usually, it was full of customers, families and students alike, but the doors were locked tight for Halloween and the gates to the park were locked shut.
Natsu wasn’t surprised by the surplus of cars that littered its parking lot upon his arrival. The Conservation was owned by Makarov after all and this time of year it was always busy despite the closed signs. Busy with a hoard of shifters coming for the reunion. It was tradition to spend the weekend together, enjoying the bounty of the forest as their true selves, no longer hiding in the humanoid skins that caged them, and seeing the family they had missed all year long.
He didn’t bother driving (it roiled his stomach to think about it) and had taken to his own methods for travel. No one questioned the russet ‘dog’ jumping over fences and running down the road. If they had, he would be long gone by the time they searched for the ‘stray’ either way. He was too quick and knowledgeable to be stuck in one place for long. Scanning the parking lot, however, made him grimace.
“How am I the LAST one here?” He asked no one, feeling irritated. Leaving early -for him at least- still didn’t give him the glory of beating some of them to the punch. Even Gray was there! (Natsu held back the urge to drag his nail along the clean paint of his car.)  Preparing for the jeering and jokes, Natsu made his way to the main center, ignoring the closed signs and withdrawing a small key from the chain along his neck. Everyone had one, but copies were remade almost yearly thanks to many losing theirs.
Natsu was, of course, one of the main culprits of this. It was so hard to keep track of the little things. In fact, Lucy had fashioned the necklace for him. You can’t lose your keys if they’re on you all the time, She had said. A bit weird, he had to admit. It felt like such a Lucy thing to wear keys as a necklace. When he said that, she flushed and shoved him away, but the sheepish way she withdrew an old skeleton key from her neck only made him grin.
‘Hah! I knew it!’
‘Oh shut up.’
The memory made him grin, more than prepared for meeting the rest of his clan. They would be rowdy. They always were. He could already hear them chattering away in the main hall, meeting and greeting those they hadn’t seen in months as they moved along to the back rooms for dinner.
Natsu was greeted with their scents and boisterous shouts the moment he swung the door open.
Natsu had yet to see Lucy’s messages.
She knew this from the sent message on her phone.
He wasn’t leaving her on read at all.
Fingers jingled along the keys on her neck as she worriedly rushed up the stairs to his apartment. He’d asked her to keep an eye on Happy, his small cat. And she wasn’t one to shirk on her duties, especially when he was supposedly busy.
But was he busy? She thought back to her earlier visit to his shop. Lucy had meant it to be a surprise. He claimed he’d be working open and closing shifts. Wouldn’t it be nice to receive a visit, even free lunch from your best friend? That was the plan, after all. But Lucy knew something was up the moment she came across the closed until Monday sign.
Until Monday? Why would they be closed all weekend? What cafe was closed during Halloween? It didn’t make sense.
Why did Natsu say he was working? The thought echoed in her mind and her heart clenched tight. Why did he lie? How often did he?
“If he’s home, I swear he’s getting the biggest earful of his life!” Lucy promised, growling angrily to herself. His spare key was found quickly, and when the door swung open, Lucy raised her voice, letting it echo through the premises. “I’m here to feed your cat. And if you’re here you BETTER have an explanation!”
No answer.
Well, besides the pitter patter of a gray cat rushing down the hall to rub against her legs. The sound of Happy’s purr sprung into the air like a motor and Lucy relaxed slightly from the sight. Well, that’s one thing normal. Cooing softly, she lifted the feline into her arms and quickly moved to the kitchen, refreshing the water bowl and checking his food levels.
Not empty. Lucy didn’t expect it to be. Despite Natsu claiming to be busy, she knew he wouldn’t forget to feed his own cat. Her nose wrinkled when she passed the litter box. How did he forget to clean THAT of all things. She made a mental note to empty it out later, for now, she was on a mission. “Natsu?”
Lucy’s call was met with more silence, aside from Happy who swerved between her legs and mewled when she tripped. Unapologetic and indifferent to the glare he received in return. Damn cat. Lucky you’re cute. Adjusting herself. She stomped towards Natsu’s bedroom, prepared to either find him fast asleep in his bed, unaware of her ire, or …
A completely empty, yet messy bed, with sheets piled high. Had he made himself a weird nest? She wrinkled her nose again, not from disgust this time. Anxiety gnawed at her, and she looked from corner to corner as if expecting to see him pop out of the closet, claiming it was all some big joke. It didn’t happen, and Lucy ignored the way her stomach dropped, feeling empty.
“He’s not here.” Her voice fell flat in the empty room. That part wasn’t a lie.  Lucy’s shoulders sagged and she spun back to the exit, planning to clean the litter and make a quiet departure. She paused halfway through the door when a low, buzzing interrupted her thoughts from within the sheets of Natsu’s messy bed. She wavered in place, brows narrowed at the familiar sound. It was muffled, but sounded almost like…
She rushed over, rifling through the sheets of his bed, searching for the fast rhythm of what was surely his phone. Lucy knew that pattern of ringing anywhere. It had danced to this tune many times on her side tables, buzzing and buzzing until it clattered against the floor. Panting slightly from the exertion of throwing sheets everywhere, Lucy found what she was looking for. Natsu’s phone, left behind and forgotten: with many missed calls and the notifications of her own messages blaring back at her. But the current buzzing was from a caller id she recognized. Shakily, she lifted it to her ears and answered it. Perhaps this was the wrong move, but… the voice on the other end was excited, speaking in a hurry. Lucy couldn’t find the words to interrupt. Not at first.
“There you are!” The voice, a young girl, echoed through the receiver, giggling, “Everyone’s been trying to get ahold of you. Are you on your way? I can’t wait to see you again-”
Lucy’s voice was hollow. “Lisanna?” The words of Natsu’s friend froze, a gasp echoing behind Lucy’s words. Lucy could hear the sounds of many others talking and laughing in the background. “You're back in town?”
“... Why do you have Natsu’s phone?”
Guilt washed over her and Lucy sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose as she left the room. “He must have left it at home. I was checking on Happy.”
“Aww,” Lisanna cooed, voice sounding slightly guarded. Or was Lucy being paranoid? “How is the little guy? Natsu never brings him out to these things anymore.”
Everything went quiet. Voices in the background shushed Lisanna, Lucy could hear her gasping, and slapping over her mouth and Lucy’s blood ran cold.
“... what things?” She asked, voice hard as steel.
“He told me….he was working all weekend. But the Cafe's closed. And now….this. Was this planned? Is.. is this where he goes every year?” Lucy knew the questions were coming at rapid fire, but her mind was rushing through every excuse he’d ever given. So often they spent time together, but he never once accepted an invitation this time of year.
“Lucy…” Lisanna started, but Lucy wasn’t done.
“ Is everyone in on this? Like some kind of joke? Are.. are you all hiding something from me?” Her voice grew shrill. “Have you always been lying to me? If he had other plans, that’s fine, but it sounds like all of you are in on it. Why? He couldn’t just say he had something else to do? He had to lie? What’s going on here?”
The line grew quiet, even the background noise had ceased. Lucy felt her knuckles ache from her grip on the phone. She waited with bated breath, barely noticing Happy mewling by her shins.
Lisanna finally answered, voice so low, Lucy barely caught it. “I’m sorry, I … I can’t answer that.”
“But-”
“I can’t!” She pressed. “I just.. It… I’m sorry!”
The line went quiet and Natsu’s phone slipped from Lucy’s fingers, bouncing harmlessly on the spilled sheets to the floor.
That….that settled it then.
Numbness settled in Lucy’s bones as a strange, myriad of thoughts and memories swam in her head bleeding into one another until her head started to pound slightly. Where did the truth end and the lies begin?
She didn’t understand it. Moving mechanically, she emptied Happy’s litter, set the dirty bag aside and refilled the bin. Her eyes stung and she blinked, realizing too late that a hot tear had snuck past and rolled down her cheek, dripping into the bin before she could snap the lid back on.
“This.. this is so stupid. Why am I crying?” She asked no one. Lucy sank to her knees , fingers drumming against the wood floor as she glanced around the room. They had that party last week. She had such a fun time.
Were they all just.. Humoring her? But why?
People didn’t just set up huge parties to hide some big secret for someone they didn’t see as a friend, right?
No, that wasn’t.. Friends didn’t do that to friends. Like a switch, Lucy jumped between anger and confused sadness, desperately trying to settle her thoughts and feelings as the familiar taste of anxiety began to claw its way up her throat.
How should she feel? Happy climbed into her lap, his soft fur distracting her as she pet the ridge of fur along his spine. The sandpaper licks of his tongue grounded her as the gray cat began to groom her hand all while his purring grew to a low roar.
“You can’t tell me, can you?” She mused, petting the cat with a sad, hollow laugh. “No, of course not, but.. Maybe I do know somehow who can.” Her phone was in her purse, left behind on the kitchen table, but Happy dug his claws in when she stood, leaving Lucy no choice but to carry the feline with her.
Moving with purpose, she fished her own phone from her purse and quickly scrolled through her list of message contacts. One handed typing was difficult and she cursed a few times when autocorrect messed with her writing, all while rubbing the belly of a cat who refused to leave her arms. Message sent. Seen and…  already replying? Lucy felt her heart stammer, a worried apprehension settling in her bones.
Levy’s icon appeared with the reply, the words rushed and full of typos: unlike the friend she’d grown to know and love. ‘I know what happened. I can’t give you the answers you want.’
Lucy’s shoulders sagged, the anger rising to a boiling fury as her knuckles turned white from the grip on her phone, the sides of its case digging painfully into her fingers. If Levy couldn’t, then who could? Would no one tell her what was going on? She almost threw her phone. Paused. Thought better of it. And grabbed her things. Happy was unceremoniously dumped on the nearest chair, looking far too offended for a cat who had been grooming her seconds ago.
Fine. If no one could answer her. Then perhaps. Just perhaps. She wouldn’t answer them either.
Just drop everything. Burn the bridges. Go completely off and -
Her phone buzzed. Another text. Eyes immediately jumped to Levy’s final text.
‘But I’ll make sure you get them. I promise.’
Promise.
P r o m i s e.
‘Can I trust a promise from people who are obviously hiding things from me?’ Lucy’s response was swift, but her fingers shook, anger and adrenaline coursing through her blood. She wanted to trust it. These were her friends after all. Levy had taken care of her so many times after a party. She was.. Natsu too.. All of them really. They were a second family.
Is that why it hurts so much?
Levy’s response came a few seconds after, the typing returning to its proper grammar and English. ‘I wouldn’t blame you for not trusting me,’ It read as the next speech bubble popped onto the screen. ‘But I mean it. I’ll get you your answers as soon as I can. I’m sorry it came up like this, but I’m being honest when I say we aren’t keeping this from you maliciously. We really aren’t supposed to talk about it.’
‘Then I guess you better start breaking some rules then.’ Lucy’s thoughts came out in her final text, frustrated tears now staining her cheeks.
Levy’s response was short. ‘Yes. We will.’
She didn’t text again. Lucy’s exhaled shakily and felt the strength leave her limbs once more. Happy took the opportunity to climb back into her arms and she sighed.
“... what do you say, little guy?” She asked sadly, “how about we watch a few movies together before I go home? .. it may be a while before you ever see me again.”
If ever. She thought to herself, but Happy was none the wiser.
Natsu didn’t notice Levy. Not at first.
Upon entering the building, his expectations were met with many jeers. Macao greeted him with a thump to his shoulder, complimenting his ‘rare’ punctuality. Gray also had words, sitting off to the side with a glass of water, wearing an expression that made Natsu’s blood boil. He forgot Gray’s actual words in favor of challenging him to a tussle that was interrupted by others joining in. By the time Natsu had a moment to get his bearings, they were already heading out the back doors and onto the reserve.
They would spend the rest of the weekend outside, enjoying nature, camping out, being their true selves. Natsu couldn’t hide the impatience. While he held many reservations towards this weekend, the thought of finally letting loose was enough to ease his worries.
“Where’s the old man?” He asked as they began to trickle out onto the park path, slowly making their way to the forestline.
“Already there, I imagine.” Erza answered, joining his small group with a stern nod. “Good job on arriving on time. I didn’t have to scold you after all.” “Not you too.” Natsu frowned with a hint of a whine following his words. “It’s not like I’m ALWAYS late.”
“First time in six years.” Cana interjected, earning a couple of snickers in the crowd.
Natsu balked. “You kept count?!”
“No.” Gray interrupted, “I did. We were talking about it earlier.”
Perfect. Natsu smirked, “Gross, didn’t realize you were that into me, Gray.”
“Are you trying to start a fight with me you son of a -”
“Boys!” Erza’s warning shout silenced them both, but the atmosphere was far more relaxed than any outsider would assume.
It was nice. Natural. Normal. Natsu fell into the rhythm with ease, all smiles and teeth slightly pointier than normal. They were all family after all, why attempt to hide his more feral features? He even noticed a sharpened edge to the teeth and ears of everyone around him. When he was asked why he never answered any calls that day, he shrugged them off, briefly realizing he’d left his phone behind. (No big deal. It’s not like he’d need it, right?)
But despite the atmosphere feeling robust, a strange tension grew in the air as they left the well-known path and detoured through the bushes.
Their campsite was hidden away. For safety and privacy, and most wouldn’t know the way if they left the man-made trails. What Natsu expected to be an open clearing full of supplies and the rest of his family, turned to something completely different upon his entry.  Many of his family were already there. The short, yet hairy Makarov. (Natsu made a mental note to tease him for his new, snowy beard later.) The clan’s heir and his partner: Laxus and Freed. Friends Natsu hadn’t seen since the last meet up: Bickslow, Evergreen, Gildarts (Natsu greeted him excitedly), Vjeeter, Warren, Max, Elfman, Mirajane and-
“Lisanna!” He leaped upon the chance to greet his other best friend. While Lucy had been beside him for years, this had been his playmate since they were pups and he didn’t hide his enthusiasm. Waving wildly, Natsu ignored the others. “How’ve ya been? I’ve gotten taller since the last time ya’ saw me right? No more teasing me, now. Kahaha!”
She didn’t answer. At least, not in the way he expected. No exasperated grin. No soft smile as she ruffled his hair and joined the others. Just a guilty, sad frown as her eyes watered.
“.... Lisanna?”
“I’m-” She shuffled her feet and looked down at her phone, shoulders shaking. “Natsu, I'm so sorry. I tried to call you, but-”
Patience was never Natsu’s strong suit and he huffed. “But-?”
She didn’t finish her sentence. Instead, she held her phone out to him to see the screen: her recent call list. Her siblings: make sense. Makarov: sure. Natsu didn’t get the point and was about to voice his confusion when his own name caught his eye: answered.
“.. I don’t have my phone on me.” He said pointedly, unsure what she was leading to.
“I know.,” Lisanna couldn’t meet his eyes, biting her lip and letting the shocking white of her hair cover her face, “but someone did answer it.”
“Who-” Natsu’s face screwed up in annoyance, “Are ya’ saying someone broke into my apartment?”
Only then did Levy make herself known, stepping out from her tent, eyes pierced in an anger he hadn’t seen since they were children. “She’s saying Lucy answered your phone. You know? The person you asked to check on Happy while you were busy ‘working’?”
Oh. That made a lot more sense. Natsu’s ire calmed instantly, smiling despite himself. “She found my phone? That’s good. She’ll take good care of it I bet - “ But the looks on their faces did not change. Lisanna only grew paler as Levy sighed. He began to feel his own instincts gnawing at the back of his head, roaring a warning he wouldn’t dare comprehend. “What about Lucy?”
The two girls looked to each other then back to Natsu and Levy held her own phone up, revealing the small line of text she’d been having with Lucy. The words branded themselves into Natsu’s mind and his world came crashing down in a matter of seconds.
“She knows we’ve been lying, Natsu.” Levy said. No other explanation was needed.
For the first time in all his life, Natsu forgot how to breathe.

“You’re the kind of crazy I don’t want to deal with” ErzaJane
Thank you for the request, Zarah! Have some young Erzajane. I hope I did okay. ^^
***
Back shoved against the wall behind the guildhall, Erza whimpered under Mirajane's touch. Fiery kisses, one after the other, she unconsciously requipped from her armour, allowing more contact as her body craved for touch in desperation.
Mirajane smirked against Erza's skin and hooked her leg between her thighs, and whispered, “Oh, so now we are shoving away our precious armour, Titania?”
The scarlet mage threaded her fingers in Mirajane's hair and pulled her into a kiss again. She wanted her thoughts fogged and her rationality to blur away in this moment of desire.
Erza didn't want to think about the fragility of her existence. She didn't want to allow herself to believe that Mira was someone who can take her armour away; that she can make her feel safe.
Because Erza has learned the hard way that no one is safe. Trusting someone meant getting your heart trampled again and again and again till the pieces become too broken and horrendous to even recognise.
“Alright, stop,” she said and Mirajane backed away. It's a tempo they are familiar with and therefore, fell back into the routine of not talking about it. As Erza stepped forward to go inside the guildhall, Mirajane said, “For a person who likes to put on a hard and scary exterior, you're a big softie.”
Erza frowned. “Don't pretend as if you know me just because we have this—” she gestured between them, “Whatever this is.”
“But it's so fun to step on your toes and see through you,” the transform mage said and moved closer, trailing her finger down Erza's cheek. “It's easy to see that you're running away from something, ” her voice dropped and Erza was almost astonished at the softness of it, “When in reality, you want to...stop.”
They both looked at each other in stretching silence, Erza's heart beating rapidly in her chest. This cannot happen. I can't—no.
“Stop it,” Erza said airly. “Like you're the one to talk. It's clear that you're not the block of stony hardness that you want the world to see.”
“Fuck,” Mirajane hissed and looked away. “You're the kind of crazy I don't want to deal with. Just go inside and keep those too jerk in line so that they don't destroy the hall. I don't want the master to scold me again for the damage they did.”
She stomped out of the place when Lisanna came to her and looked at her with a sad smile. “Are you ever going to tell her that you love her?”
“Ugh, why do you have to keep reminding me? Her heart seems to be somewhere else where I can't reach. That scarlet monster, I hate her.”
Lisanna sighed as she watched her sister grumbling and going away, pretending that she did not see the tears glazing Mira's eyes.

Requests are still open for FT fandom~
Prompts list.

Question for Fic Writers:
#21 - If you wrote a "missing scene" in [insert fic], what would it be?
Tumblr media
Questions for Fic Writers
A whole lotta scenes from Natsu's perspective in Flame's Desire. :P In 'Red Herring' - a fic I have on hiatus until Flame's Desire is further along, I have a scene that I don't plan on ever being in the fic itself, so I have written parts of it as a side story of sorts just to get it out of my head. And it's smut. I'll be honest. It's smut. @doginshoe is to blame for it too.

20,30 and 12💫
20 - Master Bob, hands down. So much love for that character.
30 - I honestly think I’ve sworn off long fics, The Red Dragon will be my last. I do plan on finishing two long fics that have been waiting for me for a long time (To Save A Dragon and How Writing Fanfiction Saved Me)
12. Maybe Blind Date/Being set up? I don’t think I’ve done that one and it sounds kind of fun.
Thanks for the ask!

Eh I just realised you got asked of those two already so Mavis, Capricorn and FairyTail!
I’m slow oops
Mavis (do you think time is an illusion): not really tbh 🧐
Capricorn (who are you most loyal to): only those I know who are loyal to me as well :) so pretty much just my husband and my best friend 😂
Fairy Tail (do you think family is just blood): not at all! I cut off family members all the time haha! My best friend rides harder for me than most of my family anyways lmao. I very much believe that family is those who treat you the way you deserve to be treated!
Thank you for the ask 🥺💕

6 & 12
from this list of asks for fanfic writers
6. how did writing change you?
Ooh. This one is tough. I started writing at 12, and before that I was making up stories, so I’m not really sure how much writing changed me as much as it just is me. I will say writing fanfiction has changed me in the last 2 years because before writing fic, I was working on my own romance novels, and I published one on Amazon, but idk that it’s really any good, tbh. Well, I’ll say what I’ve written since is definitely better. But since starting to write fic, I’m less motivated to write my own stuff. I still have ideas and write out scenes that come to me, but I think the instant gratification of kudos and comments and likes and reviews have spoiled me on fic. Fic gave me the chance to write short scenes that makes sense without having to introduce the characters or the surrounding events. Skipping the exposition is really nice.
12. favorite place to write
So...in the tub? Like while soaking in a hot bath. When I was in high school and college, I got a lot of writing done in the margins of my notebooks. I used to write at my desk in the library where I worked in college, also. However, after I graduated, most of my writing was directly on my computer, rather than being handwritten first, and I did it in my bed or in the tub. Sometimes at Panera. But like 75% of my novel was written in the tub. (I’m actually answering this from the tub.)

calling for potential beta/ people who can assist me in editing and further developing upcoming chapters of My WIPs and upcoming projects.
Fics are rated kk+ to m. Read below for our details
Hey Everyone,
Mod Sarah/ millennial stargazer from the nalu archive , tumblr, FF and A03. AKA millennial_fairy for those who also follow me on other social media (and who know my Twitter handle @millennialstar2). Anyways, this is a personal post so this will just be on my main blog and such for now. Anyways, this is recruiting call for potential beta/ editors for my fanfics. Some lovely and talented people were kind enough to assist me in the past but have gotten busy with their own lives and responsibilities. Hence why I've been searching for more people to help for a little while and I finally caught around to posting this on social media.
Bottomline that I'm looking for someone or potential team of people who are willing to be beta/ editors and assist me in editing , further developing and revising upcoming chapters for my fanfics--- currently Fairytail- whether it's current WIPs or other upcoming projects. My Fics are rated k+ to M and some chapters could contain mature sexual content. Granted, I realize that some people may not be comfortable handling scenes with smut or sorts so So it's perfectly okay Do you have different betas for particular chapters on the same thick or on the same chapter.
Betas are more than well. Come too hand it to pass the chapter onto someone who's comfortable with M- rated sexual contact or adding part of the chapter and then letting someone else take over to the editing when it comes to certain scenes.
Anyways, having a betas or team of beta/ editors would be extremely beneficial and much appreciated. Anyone who's interested Can contact me through Tumblr (pms and ask) , discord or other of my social media for more details links to all my social media can be found in my navigation bars, Tumblr bios and my link tree . And please feel free to let me know if you know of anyone else you might be interested.
Oh Please reblog this post and spread this around. Thanks!
Tagging: @goddesofimortality @dark0angel13 @acidrain1698 @bmarvels @petri808 @phoneboxfairy @nat-sul-ucy @rosavatar @nashadragneel @cobblepottantrum @doginshoe @firephoenixslayer @mannyegb @lovelyluce If they know someone might be interested and to spread the word
