Maybe I’m the only one who freaked out about this but bdubs’ last words before his second death made my jaw drop so I. Further dramatized it of course with a comic dfbjdfbksfgfg also I just wanted to draw ren and bigb furious :]
It's so sweet how in various imaginings fans have depicted c!Bdubs in Double Life as at least partially regretful and guilty for the murdering of his beloved soulmate.
However, this inadvertently heightens the ridiculous hilarity of canon Bdubs being constantly, horrifically oblivious to his repeated wrongdoing while Impulse silently seethes with both hatred and fondness in the background
'WHAT have I ever done to SWEET Impulse?!?' - Bdubs, Limited Life Megacut
This is what we call in the business, foreshadowing, folks.
For those confused b/c I’m realizing now that the way I edited this doesn’t explain it the best, what happened is that after they went into the portal they built with Impulse and Bdubs, Etho and Joel went in the nether, but came back to a portal trapped with lava, something Grian mentioned doing earlier in front of Joel and Etho.
Okay, so, little rant, I love how soulmates have just matched each other's energy so incredibly well to the point where you kinda get why the universe made these specific people soulmates. Like, I know it was completely random but it just fits.
Like, you have Etho and Joel who are just full-on pranksters. They're just murder hobos who don't necessarily take being soulmates excessively seriously but also they don't take it not seriously?
Like, they have the exact same level of commitment basically.
Then there's Impulse and Bdubs and BigB and Ren who both immediately took it and ran with it as much as they could. Full in from the start. Full commitment completely serious relationship with more or less romantic connotations (depending on the pair).
Also, they match each other energy perfectly. And BigB and Ren have the "person who doesn't know what they're doing + the only person who thinks they do dynamic" like Jimmy and Tango which is a great dynamic to see.
And that brings me to Tango and Jimmy who, on top of having that dynamic, are also misfortune magnets. But since they're both unlucky as hell they also don't judge each other for it at all, they're just supportive and constantly think the other is amazing which is really nice to see. Also, both constantly worry about their soulmate's well-being.
And Scar and Grian are... well, they're Scar and Grian. Morally questionable people in a codependent relationship with the person that annoys them the most.
It's great.
They're both miserable.
And the funny thing is that even the pairings that have broken apart technically work.
Like, Scott and Pearl both don't give a shit about who their soulmate is supposed to be. And they're both incredibly petty people who immediately went all-in with hurting each other. And Cleo and Martyn also are kinda... they're the same kind of person which is why it could never work. They're both incredibly loyal, like, to an extreme. Which is also why any perceived betrayal is unforgivable for both of them. And, sooner or later, something was simply bound to go wrong, it's just unfortunate that it happened so early on.
Bdubs and Impulse: Domestic bliss. Walking around holding hands, looking at light fixtures and chic rugs for their Mid-Century Modern house.
Bigb: Vows to only buy some tealights- comes out with one million decorations for Box and multiple treats for everyone.
SmallEtho (Boat Boys): Playing hide and seek in the warehouse. Etho: 27, Joel: 0. The game ends when Joel tugs on the ceiling lights and causes a fire.
Grian and Scar: Dare each other to race to the end. Both end up immediately lost and are forced to sleep in the store. Are eventually found by Bigb, hungry and sleep deprived.
Martyn: Spouts terrible puns ('IKEA? I barely know her!') that causes Grian and Scar to run away and get lost.
Team Rancher: Jimmy gets trapped in the kids' playpen. Tango patiently waits outside with a rapidly melting ice-cream until the session's over.
Cleo and Scott (Divorce Duo): Chilling and gossiping in the cafe. They trapped Jimmy in the aforementioned playpen to create Tango rage.
Pearl: Is kicked out for trying to sneak dogs into the store.
