Have a fluffy headcanon because we all need it

Judith, like her father, has gift giving as her love language. So one day, she makes some matching bracelets for her and her parents. Each necklace has two red beads to represent Callisto and Judy’s eyes, and a turquoise bead for Penelope. They also have little charms on them: a golden dragon, a rose, the sun, moon, and a little star.

Callisto is overjoyed at the gift, immediately having preservation spells put on the bracelets. Everyone he meets later that day has to deal with Callisto showing off the bracelet and gushing about Judith more than usual:

“But just look at what Judith made for me and Penelope, isn’t it beautiful?“

“Yes, Your Majesty. You’ve shown us three times already today.”

“Well, now you get to see it again, my daughter’s creativity deserves to be shown off—“

Penelope is also very happy for the gift, all the servants noting how often she’ll get distracted from paperwork or a book just to look at the bracelet. A soft smile lighting up her face as she gently rubs at a charm between her fingers. (She also finds Callisto’s enthusiasm hilarious, but does have to reign him in at times. Even though when she sees her husband smiling so genuinely, she can’t help but give him a quick kiss that quickly gets out of hand because Callisto can’t help himself.)

Every time Judith gets another sibling, she adds a bead to match their eye color and another star charm. She makes them bracelets as well when they get a bit older.

How the hell does Derrick have so much authority over Penelope? Something I never understood was how it was possible that Derrick, being only the eldest brother, could grant harsh punishments such as feeding his younger sister bread and water or restricting her mobility, without even consulting his father, the Duke. Clearly they have given me more power than a simple brother should have in my opinion, I am an only child so I don't know much about sibling dynamics, but it seems strange to me that Derrick has more influence in Penelope's life than her own father at the point. That when she is arrested, he is the one who goes to visit her. Don't you think that in a situation like this the legal guardian should go?

what is an elder brother if not a second absent father? From the start Derrick seemed to me more like an abusive guardian than an elder brother. His actions towards Penelope were never those of a brother towards a sister. Their relationship was not sibling like. In a similar manner I don't view Reynold and Derrick's relationship as very brotherly. It might have been different once. Before Ivonne disappeared. He helped Reynold and Ivonne sneak out to visit the festival, didn't he? Disobeying his father, that doesn't sound like something the Derrick we know would do. But something in Derrick must have changed after he lost his little sister and made him crave control.

Their relationship would be more comparable to a guardian and ward. I hesitate to call it parentification, because Derrick absolutely did not meet the emotional needs of Reynold and Penelope (he probably barely interacted with Penelope) but I do think he took to some degree care of Reynold in a way their father failed them. I believe he had to grow up too early and that his childhood was cut short given the fact that he had to be prepared to become the next head of the Eckart duchy and their father had likely fallen into a depression after experiencing the loss of his most treasured child. Perhaps Derrick wanted to share his father's burden and offered to take on some of his tasks. Such tasks may have also included looking after the children that the duke was neglecting over his grief at Ivonne's disappearance. Making sure Reynold doesn't stray away from the right path and gets in trouble, being in charge of punishments for minor offenses that he considers too unimportant to bother his father about, ironing out his mistakes, overseeing his education, budgeting etc. You can see where I'm going with this: Derrrick was a person of authority in Reynold's life (hc). And I think that's how he became easily a person of authority in Penelope's life as well. If Derrick did his role so well with Reynold then this could explain why the Duke entrusted him with Penelope. Though I suspect that most often the Duke had no idea what kind of punishments Derrick was handing out to Penelope. I can imagine that at the start Derrick was asking his father for permission for every little thing that eventually the Duke just handed a share of his power over to Derrick. And when he noticed that Derrick acted independently he found that it had a positive impact on their family interests, which caused him to have a little bit too much trust in Derrick's judgement without checking.

Unusual circumstances forced Derrick into the role of the little Duke to support his father and unconsciously everyone around him started to get used to it. Derrick gaining more power over his siblings than he should have wasn't seen as something weird, because he was a precocius child and already preparing to follow into his father's footsteps as the next Duke anyway. Everyone else was so busy searching for Ivonne or offering their condolences, they had forgotten completely that they still had two other children in the house which were in need of parental care.

In my opinion part of the reason had to do with their father's mental state and inability to act as a guardian, part was Derrick's overqualification in certain fields that made people trust him to take on tasks that they would not have given other kids his age typically, part was that his status as the Eckart heir lifted him above his siblings and he would enjoy certain privileges that were connected to serious responsibilities in the future that neither of his siblings would have to fullfill. I think Penelope's gender also played a major role given that they were living in a patriarchy where the domination of women through their male relatives and spouses was normalized. The story is set in a historically western inspired world but the author herself is Korean. It is possible that some Confucian ideas of filial piety still made it into the text.

Lastly there was the underlying idea that Penelope had to prove herself worthy of the Eckart name. If Derrick's treatment of her was that of a master to his servant or a noble to a commoner instead of a brother to his sister or a nobleman to a noblewoman then it was condoned because no one viewed Penelope as an Eckart except for her stepfather. The staff acted under the assumption that Penelope was living there temporary and would be thrown away once the true lady had returned. Even if some of them had objections they were in no position to voice them. Only very few would intervene in other people's family affairs.

As for why Derrick went to visit Penelope in prison instead of his father: plot related reasons. Love interests are generally given more screentime than side characters such as parents. Penelope's situation also wouldn't have looked that bleak if instead of her brother her father had come. Unlike Derrick the Duke would have shown that he cared. Besides the scene of Penelope trapped behind bars was important, it was meant to parallel the bird in the cage that Derrick gifted her and would serve as a hint that Derrick's desire for Penelope was dark and possessive.

I can also imagine that their father was doing paperwork, looking for a good lawyer or meeting with influencial people and trying to negotiate better conditions for Penelope in the meantime.

Headcanon #2

After the hunting competition, Callisto desperately wanted to see Penelope every single day, talk to her, and just gaze at her beautiful face for long hour without end, so he secretly had the empire's best painters come to the palace and paint portraits of her, which he kept everywhere, being careful to order his servants to hide them every time Penelope visited his palace, and having them placed in a secret room in his treasury when she moved in as the empress after her studies were completed. He also kept things like the gloves he wore any time he held Penelope's hand, the piece of cloth Penelope ripped off of her dress when his arm was injured, the arrow that would have killed him if not for the amulet Penelope gave him at the hunting competition because he realized that she actually cared whether he died at that moment, a collection of crystal balls that can replay every moment he shares with her, no matter how trivial, which he has the imperial magicians make by photocopying his memories, down to the heads of all the people he killed for messing with Penelope as trophies and the dead skin of his lips that came off a few days after his first kiss with her.

After Judith grew up a little, whenever Penelope would visit the Eckhart duchy to see her father and second brother without Judy, Callisto would take her to the hidden room in the treasury and show his memories of Penelope and tell the significance of each of the objects, making her jealous that she couldn't live the moments he did with Penelope. Upon Penelope's return, Judith would take Penelope to her room, making sure her father can't come anywhere near them for hours and tell Penelope to shower her with more love than she's ever done for Callisto, consequently making him the jealous one.

Safe to say, Judith has tried to kiss Penelope on more than one occasion in her child days and Callisto has received a lot of scoldings, ear and hair pulling, and nights alone for teaching their Judy bad things.

She also has a secret collection of things that can remind her of Penelope, inspired by Callisto and known to only the two of them, although nothing is as particularly crazy as dead skin cells. This collection includes a mountain full of memories, Penelope's used perfumes, make up, accessories, pens, and other belongings that she thought she threw out (Judith and Callisto fight over these), spoons that she's eaten from (Callisto gets the forks), and even the dress Penelope was wearing while giving birth to her.

Penelope returns early on one day after her visit to the duchy and catches the two of them sharing one of those super cute father daughter moments where they treat each other like love rivals and Penelope isn't even surprised, but has them get rid of all the items. Judith confides in her uncle, Reynold, and the maids that were supposed to throw the things out transport them to Reynold's secret sea-side cottage (which I think makes sense for him to have), and Callisto does the same with Cedric (Reynold easily complies because his heart always gets the best of him and Cedric is threatened to). They do get to keep some of the things of their collection with them, though, after hours of begging and imploring Penelope to please let them.

ALSO!! Reynold attempts doing the same with Emily after hearing of Judy and Calli's collection from Penelope later on, but is caught while trying to add the very first item, and ultimately fails.

And I should also mention Callisto got the idea to start this collection from Cedric!

When Callisto used to ramble on and on about his times with Penelope to Cedric whilst he was working, Cedric once got annoyed and went "With how obsessed you are, I'm surprised you don't have magicians preserve every breath she exhales and the water she washes her dirty hands with!" At that moment Callisto jumps up from his chair, kicks the table he's sitting in front of, sending it flying, and darts out of the room at the speed of 100km/s to the imperial magicians and tries doing so right away. Unfortunately for him, they're not able to preserve her breath for real and he can't keep the water she cleans herself with because at the time she was still living with the Eckharts and trying to go back to her world, blissfully ignorant to everything happening at the palace. Callisto begins to fidget with his lips (and this is a few days after the first kiss) and a piece of skin comes off. His collection began with this, and poor Cedric, traumatized, never made sarcastic remarks within Callisto's hearing range ever again.

SVSSS Headcanon that I have, SY and SJ are the same soul actually, SY is just what happens when his life wasn't so terrible it almost becomes ridiculous.

Basically, a wmmap or ditoeftv situation, one soul suffering in the original story, reincarnating somewhere else WITHOUT the memories and that new person coming back without ever remembering. Still the same person, but a better life having helped them become more stable in a way that'll help them survive their story.

It's also why nobody questioned things TOO much about SY's actions, because despite the changes, he was still recognizable as SJ, just. Milder.

It helps keep me from a lot of pain, like wondering where SJ is, if he managed to find happiness in the end, YQY's apology not being heard, etc.

Just a silly DITOEFTV headcanon, but in the novel Penny describes that he looks like a rabbit with red eyes when he was crying while apologizing to her and I randomly noticed the words Red, Rabbit and Reynold were coincidentally started with the same letter R.

So I wondered if Penny would call Reynold 'Red eyed Rabbit Reynold' to poke fun at him of the times he cried in front of her, like just teasing him/instigating an argument like he does every time he was being cheeky, and that never fails to make him go red with embarrassment XD

I think it's what Penny would do if her hands weren't filled with anxiousness of dying again and getting everyone's affection meter up.

Headcanon #3

After Penelope became empress, she collects many artefacts, books and scrolls about magic and studies these. One day she worked on a special scroll from the ancient magicians. She could identity the language, but not what it is about. Being the nerd she is worked the whole day on the scroll. When she last read it, it was already evening. So gave up for today. Too tired to go to her bedroom, decided to sleep on the couch in her office.

When she got to the couch wanted to throw, opened under her portal, in which she fell. Instead of landing on a couch, she crashed a table and then on the hard floor. Groaning she sat up, wondering what just happened. When she looked up she saw the capture targets and the Duke looking down at her in disbelief. The Duke said her name with a teary voice, rushing towards Penelope. Hugging her as if she would disappear every second, sobbing and apologies to her, because she landed in the normal mode of the game after Penelope was killed and Leila terrorising the empire she is about to destroy.

The scroll sended her into another dimension and she can only go into her's when Leila is dead in this.

(Last one for today!) What pranks would Reynold pull on his family members? I can see him sneaking daisies in Derricks room causing Derrick to sneeze and curse up a storm (I headcannon Derrick is allergic to daisies and nuts) or putting hair dye in his brothers shampoo bottle.

(Okay- it’s Ben a hot minute since I’ve done asks! I’m really sorry for that, I have no excuse :,) But, moving on!)

Reynold is a little bastard and enjoys scaring the living tar out of literally anyone, even his father and the staff of the dukedom, and enjoys making fun of people a little too much

The pranks he pulls on his family members change from who is on the receiving end

For the duke Reynold pulls smaller jokes, like randomly scaring him, because he doesn’t want to get grounded

Even if he has basically zero self-preservation instinct, Reynold stopped doing major pranks on Penelope after she got so angry that she started beating him with her slipper, (he put a can of paint on top of Penny’s door, and it spilled all over her and her bedroom). He still scares her from time to time tho

With Yvonne he goes a little easier, but she still gets peeved because his jokes are so dumb and annoying, and Yvee is the easiest target.

Now, Derrick is Rey’s favorite target because he gets so mad that he looses his cool, and starts yelling curses after his younger brother

And as for the minor daisy allergy- Reynold constantly makes fun of Derrick and just goes ‘immagine being afraid of daisies’ and picks a bunch of daisies and puts them in Derrick’s room

Judith Headcannons:

The duck of creativity had blessed me! Here are some Judith HCs!

She loved sleeping in between Callisto and Penny

Judi loved to spend time with cousin Athy whenever they were visiting (Athy also loved spending time with judi since she's the first baby she's ever interacted with since reincarnation)

The only reason she took up sword fighting was because she wanted to beat her uncle Reynold.

Judith becomes very self-conscious whenever she's molting (HC that molting also turns her into a walking furnace)

She admitted to accidentally walking in on Callisto and Penelope during a family reunion.

First word was "old". No one knew what that meant until she ran to Reynold. He was banned from the palace for 3 months.

There are times when Judith "explores" the palace complex.

Judith, Penelope, Yvonne, Emily and Thalia all bond over their love of romance novels.

Favorite sibling isn't Navier or Eden. It's Calliope (Yes the kid was named after the both of them). Cal and Penny had one more kid 3 years after Eden.

Although she's the heir to the throne, she was also taught princesssy subjects such as: singing, dancing, music, sewing, embroidery, etiquette

She's been attending/shadowing Callisto's meeting with the nobles and ever since she was 7

She's dated men in secret and the only one who knows is Emily (Callisto would've had a heart attack if he found out)

Her favorite person to hangout with was Raon, who is now Vinter's understudy

Favorite foods are chocolate macarons, garlic bread, and japchae

Her current style is a mix of og!Penny, current Penny and Callisto

Reynold would be a delusional and stalker yandere

He likes to stalk you, saying that he's only protecting you

He will approach you only when he knows every single thing about you

He wants to be a 'good' partner to you. [Well, maybe isolating your partner is a good example of being a good partner, right?]

After knowing you from A to Z

He starts to approach you when you are on the way back home one day

He would ask you to go to a cafe nearby

And you happily accepted his offer

He would slowly befriend you

After a while, he will tell you that he's the well-known Reynold Eckart and will confess to you at the same time

You, being a commoner, reject him since you are a commoner and he's the son of the duke

DITOEFTV PET HEADCANONS

If Penelope had a pet, it would be the "hates everybody but her" trope but with a pet. When this pet is with Penelope they are all lovey-dovey and tries to smother her with kisses and affection. If other people (like the Eckharts) are in the room with Penny the moment she leaves the pet alone with them for any duration of time without warning it does a 360 and turns into a demon. Traumatizing everybody in the room until Penny comes back in which they act like the perfect little angel as if it had not tried to unalive everyone seconds ago. Penelope is blissfully unaware of her pet's attempted murder sprees to the dismay of the Eckharts cause how do you tell someone that you almost got killed by a pet?

They're small so Penny can just pick them up and carry them around. It hates everyone but Penny they only they even remotely tolerate are Callisto but only after a long time. They love Judith to bits though.

Headcanon that Derrick and Lady Kellen were engaged in the og timeline.

My reasons for why this couple would make sense:

Gloria Kellen seems to be respected among the noble ladies and of marriageable age. For someone like her who is not from a notable family, Derrick is quite the catch as he is the firstborn son and future head of the Eckart duchy. It's not uncommon to break off an engagement if another suitor has appeared who can offer more power and wealth than the previous one, after all marriage back then was not based on love, most marriages were political arrangements. We also do not know how the Hunting arc was resolved in the og timeline. Her fiance Baron Tulitte might have been executed by Callisto for the assassination attempt, imprisoned or incapitated in a similar way as he is now, which would make a marriage with him disadvantageous.

The Duke had to give a diamond mine to Lady Kellen's family as compensation after Penelope threatened her with a crossbow. Through a marriage Derrick could retake possession of the diamond mine and avoid that further incidents involving Penelope could escalate into a family feud.

Similarity attracts. They are both arrogant people who abused Penelope and thought her inferior because of her lowborn background. Unlike Emily, rather than physical violence Gloria uses manipulations and subtle insults to agitate Penelope. Another thing they have in common is that Gloria and Derrick both criticize Penelope for how she used to be dressed. Lastly Derrick has the tendency to mask his attraction to Penelope by hurting her in the worst ways. Exchanging vows with the woman who ostracized Penelope in high society is something that Derrick might do. As his feelings for og Penelope deepen, he would become more desperate to escape them. Did I mention that the wiki states Gloria is around Penelope's age?
