To Oz, love is something difficult to capture. The more ignorant, tyrannical side of him wants to believe that he’s above love and that his own interests are all that matter to him, but his more human, sensitive side of him can’t deny the swell in his heart whenever he glances at Arthur frolicking with his friends or the enthusiastic gleam in the eyes of the younger wizards whenever they complete a mission successfully.

When he does fall for you, he does so slowly, slowly, and then all at once. It’s denial until the very end, where it feels like he’ll asphyxiate on his own cynical attitude towards his love because he has no clue how to explain the weird clench in his chest or the flutter deep in his stomach whenever you’re around him.

He understands that human lives are short and beautiful, so he decides to show his appreciation for you through his actions instead. He shows you that he trusts you by bringing you to his castle in the North and taking you up in the sky where the two of you can enjoy the Northern lights. There’s no one to bother the two of you, and Oz can spend hours by your side and soak up your presence.

Oz never explicitly tells you that he loves you. You can feel it though: the desperate squeeze of his hands on your shoulders as he pulls you close, the ghost of a smile on his face whenever you look at him, the constant invitations to view the lights with him. He isn’t the best with words, but you’re more than patient with him.

There’s a Baltic legend that states the Northern lights are caused by heavenly spirits on a sled to a celestial wedding. One day, Oz hopes that he can craft a sled akin to that of legend and take you across the sky amongst the lights to a wedding of your own. Perhaps there he’ll entrust you with his heart for good, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead as you beam at him from under a curtain of snow and light.
