@derinthescarletpescatarian has a wonderful scifi story called Time To Orbit: Unknown, where the main character Aspen comes from floating (on water*) mangrove forests. On the discord we talked about how Arborean kids might play with little floating isles for fun (and/or spite). And with some recent reveals about Aspen’s family, we’ll. I just wanted to make a little comic set in their last (Aspen uses they/them!)
*a lot of readers, myself included, thought this meant a floating-in-the-sky deal. It’s a running joke now.
Individual panels and the conversation that inspired under the cut, as well as a transcript for the conversation. I outlined the people in red and pink to help them stand out against the shading better, and to show that their a family. In previous fanart, I outlined Aspen in red. So if I did a scene about Denish’s family, they’d be purple, and so on.

Transcript for the last two pictures below
It’s a discord chat. The cancel thing is an joke on the server.
Deathsmallcaps - Cancelled!
I feel like Arborean kids who are rebellious often try to start their own drifting islands, and push off from the shore. Their hippy parents are like,
"good initiative, kiddos! We'll send a boat by sunset just to bring some more supplies if you want"
Ultimate Ragnorok, replying to previous message
and islands made from one moderately large tree and a couple smaller ones are always visible from some part or another of the shore. Sometimes they bring back the island and join them with the main one, since most trees can merge with one another and become a larger network like that even between species
Deathsmallcaps - Cancelled!
I can see this becoming a lot of very cute pirate games
Dea626
very tom sawyer
/azirpidia/ (called gpedia on the server, my phone didn’t allow me to copy their phonetic symbols)
Tom sawyer and Huckleberry Finn
Huckleberry Finn, come to think of it, would be a valid Arborean name from what we've seen of Arborean nmes
Dea626
YES
mark twain, time traveler??

...anyway. In honor of the blood libel game funding trans suppression, why don't you guys read this free web serial instead.
Curse Words / Haven Story is about... Curses.
Kayden was born with a curse (that he's trans is not the curse, he honestly has so much more of a handle on the transness than the curse) and he's pretty sure he just almost killed someone with it. Which is super bad. But there's a magic school (THE magic school-- they had to make up a new language and everything) that's doing charity work teaching cursed kids how to Not Liquify People's Eyeballs Accidentally.
So apparently Kayden now is stuck going to boarding school. And also like. Getting into a lot of trouble by not thinking things through and being very bad at other people's emotions.
Genuinely, Kayden being trans is a goddamn blip on the radar compared to the transcendental soul modding shit going on here.
There are three free books to read online at the link above, and the 4th and final book is almost finished.
They've also got a patreon , where apparently the next story after the wizard one wraps up is gonna be about [checks palm] giant mechanical space dragons.
Have fun.

Having an otherkin awakening thanks to @derinthescarletpescatarian 's wonderful discord full of wonderful peoples.
I am a computer. A big supercomputer (not in an intelligence way just in a; needs to be that large and complex to be sentient) the size of a small country. Non-human in a trans girl way still. I'm gonna think of some new pronouns maybe, to add alongside the she/her.
I didn't even realize this was a thing you could do today, it's wonderful.
No wonder I was so in love with Patricia taxxon's video "the ethics of bonking animal people", is I accepted that someone can be an animal, then I can accept that I'm a computer.

dreamt i was reading a funny yet magically surreal story about siblings being pursued across the galaxy, and the sentence of the story that still sticks with me upon waking is from them making up aliases, and reads as such: “Glory is now from Florida”
they honestly should have no concept of Earth or Florida, which is why dream me found it so funny. also Glory was sitting in front of a sheep with a computer in its belly while making their alias while someone else felt compelled to look at them thinking about how Glory looks like someone they know?

You’re interrupting Adin on a smoke break, back when he was on Earth.
(Check out Time to Orbit: Unknown by @derinthescarletpescatarian )
@answeringmysister @bambismom
I think if I had dark watercolors I would’ve just used those but I done. So gel pens, normal pens and markers (mostly sharpies) with a little digital editing to finish it up!
I initially wanted to make this in a different stylistic fashion but i haven’t slept so this is what came out ^_^

Also here’s his original look, I made his hair longer (I figured he wouldn’t be able to grow it out for his prison picture sadly) but I think for his ears right. (The weird lighting is because the image was AI generated before it became public knowledge that AI art makers use stolen source material). I probably made my rendition have too long of a face, but all my drawings end up looking like me a little. Especially when I have to use my own face for a pose reference! I’m not posting that though.

Hey Derin! First time caller, long time listener. I'm sure you get asked this question a lot, so spit in my mouth if you've answered this before, but where do I start if I wanna do what you do?
I would love to release a serialized novel with an online fan base that will read every chapter with a patreon they can contribute to.
I don't know anything about websites or money or fans, I literally only know how to write fiction and tbh, I'm very overwhelmed!
Thanks!
It's honestly not that complicated.
write story
make free website (there are a billion services online to help you do this and very little difference between them, mine is with Wordpress), or find fiction hosting website that you like (royalroad, scribblehub and a couple of reddit subreddits were the big names there last I checked, but that might have changed)
make Patreon account. This is easy, Patreon will help you do it
put story on website one chapter at a time
tell people what you are doing
keep doing it and telling people until you get people reading it. This can take years. At the end of my first year I had one single patron. I've been doing this five years and I've just broken $1k/month. This is a great industry if you love writing but not if you love money
it will help to have some kind of social hub for your readers. I have a discord, which is a popular choice
just start doing it and solve problems as they arise
I also do not know what I'm doing. But every step is free (patreon will take a cut of your patronage but you need to be making money for them to do that, so, y'know). Just fuck around and find out.

I reread Copy-Paste by @derinthescarletpescatarian back in February and did a book journal spread about it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bookmark has stamped on it "From the library of Kate" repeating with varying degrees of legibility. I put a lil belt on the bookmark to hold all the other smaller cards. I really liked using my Van Gogh stickers for this one because it's like twins (or... Copies???) of one person and how copies can still look different based on fashion choices and age.
If you're looking for a fun sci-fi short story I highly recommend you check out Derin's website and look at their other writing for more totally normal adventures in space and other places.

Saw your ask about going to a bookshop, got any book recommendations for someone who hasn't read many books in a while? Which type of stories intrigue you the most? Do you like movies? If so, which genres, which flicks?
T Count: 10
Letter Count: 172
Your T Percentage: 5.81%
Average T Percentage: 9.45%
You used the letter T 0.61 times as much as average.
My favourite fiction genre is fantasy, and I do so love @neil-gaiman's books; I've read 6 of his books so far this year. I've also read a few books from people here on Tumblr, such as Time to Orbit: Unknown and Curse Words by @derinthescarletpescatarian or Hunger Pangs by @thebibliosphere, or When The Angels Left The Old Country by @kuttithevangu. They're all lovely authors, and I think that Derin's books would be especially wondrous for someone who hasn't read in a while - they're tremendously engaging. I have also read a lot of other fiction this year, not by authors on Tumblr, but if we were to talk about all of the books I've read, we'd be here all day.
In terms of non-fiction, I tend to like books to do with religion, sociology, and anthropology. I've been reading a few books about the intersection of religion and queer identity lately, including the book I got yesterday. We also tried to look for Gathering Moss, which has been on my to read list for a while, as I loved Braiding Sweetgrass. Sadly, although Gathering Moss was meant to be on the shelf, it couldn't be found, so I couldn't get it yesterday.
Some other books I've got at that bookshop recently included the Wizard of Earthsea trilogy by Ursula K Le Guin, which I haven't read yet, and People Love Dead Jews, which was rather informative. It is a rather lovely bookshop; it's quite small, but it is an independent bookshop and publisher and tends to have books that the larger bookshops don't tend to have.
In terms of films, I tend to prefer either older films, odd films, or a mixture of the two.
