Gorgug Thistlespring Junior Year Playlist: Side A
Heres Gorgug's playlist! Literally the sweetest ever, deserves the world and more. Spoilers for Episodes 1-10
Genres Include: Alt Rock, Anti-Folk, Punk, Metal
1. Dashboard, Modest Mouse
Well, it would've been, could've been worse than you would ever know Oh, the dashboard melted but we still have the radio Oh, it should've been, could've been worse than you would ever know Well, you told me about nowhere Well, it sounds like someplace I'd like to go
Ok nothing made me laugh harder than the image of the Hangvan beat to shit and Gorgug still having to drive it back for two days straight. TWO DAYS STRAIGHT. Despicable. Deplorable. Hilarious.
2. The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton, Laura Jane Grace
When you punish a person for dreaming their dream Don't expect 'em to thank or forgive you The best ever death metal band out of Denton Will, in time, both outpace and outlive you Hail Satan, Hail Satan, tonight Hail Satan, hail, hail
This song is less of a 1 to 1 representation of Gorgug's situation and more like a song that, if he heard it at this specific time in his life, would utterly destroy him. I am really never gonna forgive Porter for the way he treated Gorgug, and as an educator, I never ever want to make anyone feel the way these fake people felt in their fake game. While this song is originally (and famously) by The Mountain Goats I really like the Laura Jane Grace cover. And I love it for Gorgug as a kind of wink to @rabdoidal 's transfem Gorgug hc, which is another thing I absolutely love.
3. Overbite, Sincere Engineer
Could have been a doctor if I really cared enough But I didn't have it in me I got distracted by a bunch of stuff I'm so stupid and empty My mind just wasn't in it And neither was my heart ... I'm not basing my intelligence on some fucking letters And now that it's over I did what I was told I had to do But I still feel just about as dumb as I used to I still feel just about as dumb as I used to
Gorgug Thistlespring took FOUR YEARS of classes. He did that. He did it and he fucking crit. He fucking got straight As on Artificer and didn't flunk Barbarian, which is basically a genius-level thing to do. Fuck Porter, and honestly? fuck Henry Hopclap for letting a 17-year-old do this to himself when he could have just confronted Porter himself LIKE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO LIKE AN ADULT
4. Dragged Across the Finish Line, Sincere Engineer
I'm not trying to win I'm just trying to finish I don't know when it ends But I'm counting the minutes And I'm counting on you Yeah, I'm counting on you I remember when I knew it 'cause I saw it in your eyes And I did what I had to, I dragged you across the finish line It would be so nice If you could do that for me this time
Is this the second song in a row by Sincere Engineer on this 6 song playlist? Yes, it is, and I am not apologizing for it because it's perfect. Also, Sincere Engineer sounds like a band name that Gorgug would think of because that's what he is. Also I really like the way this kind of makes a parallel to Gorgug helping his friends (it's gorgug keep going) and them helping him do well in his classes with studying and everything.
5. Terrifyer, AJJ
Then it got personal, I saw my rage I just wanted to rage, but all I got was tired I tried to walk to the building, but the beauty it brittled me I tried to talk to the waiter, but the beauty gentled me I ran away from the security guard Because security guards dishearten me I said goodbye to my dignity Said goodbye to my dignity
I know that the structure of an adventuring school is different than something in the real world, and if we were to apply the current utilitarian models of education towards a system that prioritizes people who freak out and fight stuff and not just people who can churn out content and do services, it would make sense that teachers in this system can freak out on students and that's like normal, but I'm gonna say the most lukewarm take ever and say it's fucked up that Porter kept bending the rules for Fig and didn't do fucking anything for Gorgug, just to say that it was to "make him embrace his rage"
Like if we're gonna prioritize class excellence, then Porter should have been more than happy to help Gorgug find a class in which he felt more comfortable, even if, at the end of the day, Porter thought Gorgug should ultimately drop Barbarian.
6. St. Anger, Metallica
And I want my anger to be healthy And I want my anger just for me And I need my anger not to control And I want my anger to be me And I need to set my anger free And I need to set my anger free And I need to set my anger free Set it free
I have mixed feelings about the way Gorgug finally got his MCAT signed, because, like - yes, anger and rage aren't necessarily bad, and while Gorgug initially was repressing his anger in season 1, I really think that isn't the case anymore. And yet we have Porter pushing rage so hard in the "corrupting rage" season.
I truly believe that anger can be a beautiful and natural thing, that it keeps you safe in certain situations, that it shows you when you are being mistreated and lets you advocate for yourself. And I think that that is a lesson that a lot of the bad kids need to learn, specifically Kristin, Riz, and even Adaine (with the transition to using a sword and also the whole deal with Adaine's furious fists). But Gorgug already learned that lesson. Sometimes you don't have to be angry????

What’s your opinion on the people who ship you and that weird Denton guy together? Does it make you uncomfortable?
I dunno why you kids are talkin’ so much about ships. I ain’t a sailor.
As for Denton, he sure does give me the creeps. Guys like that need to stay far away from me. He barely brushes his teeth and he talks way too much.
What’s even worse are those people who are tryin’ to say I’m sweet on that Cecil guy down on Skid Row. You know who I’m talkin’ about, the nerdy twerp with the glasses? I hate that guy! I hope that freaky avacado of his bites off one of his fingers.

A man who murdered his girlfriend and three members of her family in south London has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 46 years.
Joshua Jacques, 29, killed Samantha Drummonds, 27, her mother Tanysha Ofori-Akuffo, 45, her grandmother Dolet Hill, 64, and Ms Hill's husband, Denton Burke, 68, in Bermondsey in April 2022.
The scene found by police was described as being like "a horror movie".
There was a cry of "coldblooded murderer" as Jacques was sent down.
Addressing Jacques in the Old Bailey dock during sentencing, Mr Justice Bryan said the defendant's offending had been contributed to by an increased daily intake of skunk cannabis, and that he was "well aware" of the impact on his mental health.
'Salutary lesson'
The judge told Jacques it was a "horrific catalogue of murders inflicted by you in the most brutal of circumstances on three generations of the same family".
"It is a salutary lesson to all those who peddle the myth that cannabis is not a dangerous drug," Mr Justice Bryan added as Jacques appeared emotionless.
The defendant had murdered his girlfriend and three members of her family at the home in Delaford Road for "no apparent reason", he added.
The judge said the jury had heard Jacques had doubled his consumption of skunk cannabis in the days before the killings.
'Drug-induced psychosis'
It was likely that Jacques had had a row with his girlfriend Samantha, which had triggered the killings that followed, the judge said.
"You and you alone bear responsibility for any such row, and for what occurred during your drug-induced psychosis," Mr Justice Bryan told him.
He added that Jacques had expressed no remorse prior to the sentencing hearing, during which the defendant had had a statement read out on his behalf in which he apologised and said he was "disgusted" with himself.
The judge paid tribute to the victims' family for their dignified manner during the trial, adding: "No sentence will ever be enough to reflect their loss."
Following the hearing, Ms Hill's daughter Tracey-Ann Henry told reporters outside the court that Jacques should have been handed a whole life order, meaning he would never be released from prison, but added: "Justice has been served."
Chyloe Daley, Mr Burke's niece, agreed, saying: "We'll accept this for now but there is no bringing them back."
'I've lost four family members who won't come back'
Every morning, Tracey-Ann Henry, the daughter of 64-year-old victim Dolet Hill, awaits a phone call that never comes.
"I spoke to my mum every day," she explains in the run-up to Jacques' sentencing hearing. "Sometimes, four times in the day, even when I'm at work."
Ms Henry said she realised something was wrong when she tried to call her mother as usual and she did not pick up.
Ms Hill had been recovering from cancer and had just completed her final radiotherapy treatment when she was murdered in the home she shared with her husband and fellow victim Denton Burke.
Another of her daughters, Tanysha Ofori-Akuffo, also known as Racquel, sometimes stayed at Ms Hill's home to help care for her. She was also killed by Joshua Jacques that day.
Granddaughter Samantha Drummonds, Jacques' girlfriend who was another of his victims, had been living there too because her own flat was undergoing renovation.
Concerned that she could not get hold of her mother, Ms Henry rushed to the house but found it cordoned-off by police.
"I said, 'I want to talk to my mum'," she recalls. She said the police officer asked what number she lived at, and then went to check with a colleague. "He said, 'oh, you need to sit in the car with me'."
Growing increasingly worried on her way to the police station, Ms Henry said she had used her phone to check the news headlines, remembering saying: "Four people are dead, that's mum, Racquel, Samantha and Denton."
The shock was so great, Ms Henry can barely recall what happened next, although she does remember police wanting to ask her what she knew about a man called Joshua Jacques.
He had been arrested at the scene by armed officers, who found him naked in an upstairs bathroom, screaming "Allah, take me", "kill me now", and "God please forgive me".
Later, at Lewisham Hospital, Jacques said: "I ain't even in the wrong, I did them for sacrifice," and warned: "I will do something stupid again."
Ms Henry said she had only met Jacques once, a few days earlier. "He was like a normal person," she said. "It's not like he was acting strange or anything."
Family members said it was difficult to listen to the evidence in court. "It felt like he had no remorse," Asheka Jones, the niece of Mr Burke, says.
"Having mental health issues is one thing, but when you are abusing drugs, it's just horrible. I've lost four family members who won't come back."
Ms Henry said she would remember her mum as a "loving, bubbly person. She loved to cook, you won't come to the house and don't get fed" she added.
Although she had been trying to think of the good memories they had shared, she said she found it difficult to look forward to the future.
"If I go on holiday, most of my holidays are with my mum, so, it's really hard for me."
"Things will never be the same, there will always be that empty hole," Ms Jones agrees. "When I think of them, I think of this warmth they had, the humour. I feel like everyone was filled with such joy that can't be replaced."

You barely get to see Matt, but he's the shortest kid, black curly hair, far left, top row, has first seat trumpet, always has 🥰❤🎺🎶

The kid on the left, Dale Munchy, nicknamed Beethoven. He was incredible. He played a harpsichord at our wedding. He played Pachelbel's Canon.

Matt's father used to drive Matt to Queens NY for classical lessons, every other week, under the direction of William Vacchiano.
Amazingly, Mr Vacchiano brought the dimensions of Matt's mouth to his own personal metalist, and had a personalized mouth piece made for Matt's trumpet. 😲

Ted Casher's personal encyclopedia of jazz intimates runs from Louis Armstrong to Lester Young, with room in between for Duke Ellington and Bill Clinton. (With photo)
So for Mansfield's own legendary sax man, the new PBS television series tracing the history of jazz from Dixieland to Miles Davis was a walk down memory lane.
“ It gave me a chance to visit with a lot of guys who've moved on to that big bandstand in the sky,” said Casher, who has played or hung out with the likes of Armstrong, Cannonball Adderly and the Duke.
He also jammed with his share of living legends, including Dizzie Gillespie and former President Bill Clinton.
Casher received his first sax from his uncle as a boy, and quickly plunged into a love affair with music and jazz that would fill a lifetime. Almost from the time he first heard Benny Goodman on the radio as a child, he said, he knew it would turn out that way.
“ I remember the first time I sat with the junior high school band and thinking, this is what I want to do with my life,” said Casher, now 63.
For a youngster growing up in rural Maine, it was an unlikely path. His mother wanted him to become a doctor. “ At that time, Jewish boys aspired to become doctors or go into business,” he said. “ It was a tough mold to break out of.”
The first indication that Casher would be unable to withstand the pull of jazz came with the nightly broadcasts of New York's WNEW. Although the station's live jazz programs originated hundreds of miles away, they were received with crystal clarity in Skowhegan.
“ Our baby sitter liked to listen to WNEW, and so did I,” he said. “ It was like heaven.”
By 13, Casher had mastered both clarinet and sax and was playing professionally for $7 a night. He eventually came under the wing of Down East bandleader Al Corey and a succession of other mentors.
“ Today, technology permits a bunch of guys to go into a garage and do their own thing,” he said. “ Back then, I was a willing pupil and I was fortunate to be accepted as a worthy apprentice to some fine musicians. I learned a lot that way.”
Beginning in the late 1950s, Casher mixed gigs with more conventional training at the Boston Conservatory and the Berklee College of Music, accumulating stories along the way.
At the Lenox School in New York, a visiting Miles Davis shrugged off a greeting from an admiring Casher.
“ Don't take it personal,” said a heavy-set man with an engaging smile. “ He treats everybody that way.”
The heavy-set man was Cannonball Adderly.
By 1964, Casher had moved to Mansfield, starting a family and keeping company with an increasingly prestigious list of jazz greats.
Casher shared the spotlight briefly at times with trumpet players Armstrong and Gillespie. Teaching rock composition at Berklee in the 1970s, Casher was sought out by Ellington to talk about the jazz-influenced rock that groups such as Chicago and Blood, Sweat and Tears were then recording.
Casher later taught at Dean College in Franklin and played in a number of revival bands under the names of such legends as Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey. He continues to do session work and play in bands throughout the Northeast, and teaches a jazz ensemble at Rhode Island's Ponagansett High School.
It was in 1979 that the local jazzman had his most unusual encounter with a talented musician and future president. Between sets at a college reunion in Boston, a handsome, well-tailored man walked up to Casher and started making comments about his sax.
“ You play?” Casher asked the knowledgeable outsider.
“ Used to, but I don't have much time for it anymore,” said the stranger, who explained that he was governor of Arkansas. So impressed was Casher that he offered to let Clinton sit in on tenor sax. He did.
“ He was pretty good, too,” said Casher. “ Played `Take The A Train' and a lot of other stuff. In fact, I wouldn't have been ashamed to bring him to a gig.”
In 1992, the newly elected president, whose sax-playing attracted attention during the campaign, thanked Casher by inviting him to perform at his inauguration. He did so as a band member of Bo Winiker's outfit.
Casher says he's impressed with the picture painted by the TV series of jazz as a creative force and a vital underpinning of American culture. He says he believes the reason jazz has been such a potent social force is the same reason it proved to be so influential in his own life.
“ Jazz combines both intellect and emotion, and it requires your creative input,” Casher said. “ Classical musicians take a score and interpret whatever it is the composer intended. I play jazz, and I'm composing as soon as I get the sax in front of my face.”
“ That's what I love about jazz.”
RICK FOSTER can be reached at 508-236-0372 or via e-mail at [email protected]
Considered one of the most respected musicians in New England, Casher shared the stage with everyone from Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin, to Louis Armstrong and former President Bill Clinton, over his long and successful jazz career.

you can either enjoy the drawing on its own or read an unnecessarily long summary of an au that involves multiple Rick Moranis films at once...
It starts at the dentist visit scene with Orin, Seymour has second thoughts about killing him and feels guilty for killing a man despite his actions towards Audrey, so he helps Orin get the gas mask off and offers that (with the gun still pointed to him) he will let him live if he leaves Skid Row and sees him in X amount of years.
Within that time, he marries Audrey and they have kids (Amy and Nick from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids) in Somewhere That’s Green. He distracts himself with science to get away from the nightmare of gardening that reminds him of Audrey II, this later leading to the events of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (We Shrunk Ourselves could be canon, I Blew Up the Kid is not canon).
After this incident, Seymour takes a step back from science as well and becomes an accountant. He takes a business trip to NY, residing in Shandor Building at 55 Central Park West on the 22nd floor to support a long-distance client in audit. He is not as attracted to Dana Barrett as Louis Tully was written to, but he still feels some romantic attraction for her. He hosts his anniversary party, etc., Ghostbusters 1984 plot follows. Because Bill Murray plays Peter Venkman, in this au he’s substituted for Arthur Denton. Seymour recognizes him from his voice, and they become acquaintances by the end of the film.
He moves back to Somewhere That’s Green, but that lasts for a short 5 or so years before he meets Orin again in California (things get a bit odd around here, as I had to drive over the witness protection program part of My Blue Heaven, which is a big part of the film. Bear with me). Seymour explains to him that he wants to get him back on his feet, since after Orin left Skid Row he turned to joining the mafia up until now, where he decided it was best to get back to a semi normal life in dental work. Orin accepts this offer gladly, and relatively the same plot goes through. The end i guess
Thanks for reading this far! As a trophy, have this extra My Blue Heaven part of the au drawing :○)

[Image Description: Marian Churchland's Dragon Age OC template filled out with Denton "Dent" Hawke, a mage Champion of Kirkwall. Dent is shown from the hips up, looking warily over his left shoulder at something behind him. His right hand is holding an intricately carved wooden staff topped with a purple gem. His left hand is pushing the sleeve on his right arm up to his elbow. Blood is streaming out of his right arm in thin rivulets from a collection of cuts. The rivulets merge together into thicker strands that curl around his staff and end in a spiral above the top of the staff. He is wearing leather armor that covers his torso. On his right shoulder, he is wearing a spiked dark metal pauldron. Around his shoulders, he has a gray fur wrap that is latched to his dark metal gorget. He is wearing purplish leather fingerless gloves. On his right hand, fresh pale scars are visible across his fingers. Under his leather armor, he is wearing a blue form-fitting cloth shirt, the sleeves of which reach his wrists. Around his hips, the top of his leather belt can be seen, which is lined with gray fur. He has a smear of blood across his nose. His blonde hair is tucked behind his ears. He has a full equally blonde beard. His eyes are narrowed and one of his brows is raised like he's curious. He is frowning slightly. In the background, faint blue blood splashes. Next to his head are the words "Foul and corrupt are you / Who have taken My gift / And turned it against My children" Below the quote is an attribution to "-Transfigurations 18:10". Below the drawing, several traits are listed with a line between them to mark where the character falls between the two. Between cautious and reckless, Dent is more cautious; between selfless and self-serving, he is slightly more self-serving; between emotion-driven and logic-driven, he is very emotion-driven; between forthright and dissembling, he is more forthright; between friendly and unfriendly, he is more friendly; between devout and questioning he is more devout; and between trusting and suspicious he is more suspicious. Below the traits is a list of his main party: Anders, Varric, and Carver or Fenris. Below that, there are a series of symbols that indicate which choices he made throughout the game. The first three indicate he is a mage, who chose the blog magic specialization, and romanced Anders. The next row of five indicates he is diplomatic, Carver joined the Gray Wardens, the Arishok was killed, he sided with the mages, and spared Anders. End of Image Description]
Woo! Finals finished up so I finally got to draw again :] Here's my boy Denton "Dent" Hawke, do not be fooled by his battle-ready expression he is a wet rag of a man who usually gets his ass kicked. He is a huge supporter of mage rights but even more so mage wrongs.
Fun fact! The quote here is from the codex entry "Blood Magic: The Forbidden School". Because he's a blood mage. If you couldn't tell.
Here's the flat version!
Tumblr media
[Image Description: The same drawing as in the first image, though this time without the background or shading, making the colors easier to pick out. End Description.]
Relevant stuff in the replies! My Inquisitor art is scheduled to post tomorrow
A reblog would be very appreciated! I'm limiting how many people are gonna see this because of the blood so every boost helps :]

Maple Tea and Murder
I had an interesting afternoon. I spent an hour in the conference room at Adkins Arboretum with women who love murder. Okay, maybe they don't love it, they just love reading about it. For $5 I attended Crime and a Cuppa.
Join mystery maven Kathleen Wilson for an hour of intrigue, humor, and thrills as she discusses her favorite crime novels set in the great outdoors. Brace yourself with a cuppa in the face of murders, kidnappings, some twists, and many laughs. You'll leave with a solid list of titles to see you through the winter months.  When I arrived I was welcomed by Ms. Wilson and invited to partake of the scones, cookies, and many flavored teas available. I chose Maple Cinnamon tea and a gingersnap. Perfect for a fall day.
Tumblr media
The speaker was absolutely delightful, we covered four pages of recommended murder mystery books in just an hour. Lots of laughs, plenty of good information, and a room full of women who decided to spend their Tuesday afternoon compiling a reading list for the coming winter. Good stuff.
But, and you knew there'd be a but, I don't really read fictional murders. I prefer coverage of real crimes, the unraveling of a case via smart detective work, pivotal moments, etc. I like to be able to do a little internet research after finishing the book, and discover everything from old interviews and photos to the murderer's death row meal request. I felt like a poser as the attendees bantered about their favorite authors and series. I'd never read a single book they mentioned. I may or may not read anything from the list I received today, but it was still just really fun to be in a room full of crime readers. I just felt a smidge more bloodthirsty than them. They talked a lot about "cozy mysteries" - where the quaint town and quirky characters play a big part in the plot. That all sounds delightful to me, but is that as interesting as the woman who killed her husband by putting Visine in his tea? Or the guy who started the whole slow death by antifreeze trend? How about the gal out in Washington who replaced her husband's Excedrin tablets with cyanide (she planted additional bottles on store shelves to cover her tracks, killing two other people). When it comes to crime, fiction doesn't hold a candle to reality. People are crazy. It was still a delightful talk, a really nice crowd, and I probably will try something from the list. It seemed like most of the series were built around game wardens with broken hearts, or sassy female crime busters with an angsty back story who has to team up with said hunky game warden/park ranger. I normally need more depth in my books, but I'm no snob. I love a good story and there's always a time and place for a light read. I'll probably pick up a couple at the library and give them a whirl. On other news I'm doing a little giveaway over on my PrissyHippie Facebook page. I'll be sending some lovely person a bunch of earrings just for being nice enough to follow my page and comment.
Honestly, I steer clear of Facebook anymore, at least my personal page. I'm so over it. But I enjoy interacting with the handful of folks who have found my Prissy Hippie page. They're so congenial. Same with The Happy Bookers, a wonderful collection of women who share good reads and funny book memes in a friendly space on Facebook. The rest of it can rot. Aren't we all a little burned out on social media culture? Kind of weird that I'm saying that as I post to Tumblr. I suppose it's the mean-spirited, self-important, aggressively opinionated crowd that I avoid, Not the nice folks here. I want to live in a bubble of kindness. I have grown weary of this mean ol' world. Oh well, it's time for this bookworm to wander upstairs and run a bubble bath. Maybe I'll start one of those cozy mysteries. Bet I can download one from the library tonight. Sending out loads of love tonight, I hope you feel it and it warms you. Let's all be good to each other. It's really all that matters.
Tumblr media
I've written on this blog since 2007. It used to be more interesting, certainly a lot funnier, but life changes and so do we. Some of you have been reading my silly snippets since the beginning, some of you I've never met but consider you a friend, many of you are family and friends in "the real world". Thank you all for walking with me. What lovely company. Stay safe, stay well. XOXO, Nancy

Plush Pumpkins at the Library - Nov 22, 2022
My friends at the town office love my plush pumpkins, so a few have been hanging around. The top-center one is mine; the rest are going to my friends here.
top row: “Pumpkin Spice” by @dentonsinventions; yarn from Downeast Fiber Farm; knit in 2016
middle row, left: Denton’s “Pumpkin Spice” again; yarn from @sycamore‘s stash; knit 2022
middle row, right: colorwork from Just Crafty Enough’s “Wee Ski Sweater”; yarn from @sycamore‘s stash; knit 2022
bottom row, left: Lion Brand Yarn “Glittering Snowball Ornament”; yarn from @sycamore‘s stash; knit 2022
bottom row, middle: improvised pattern; yarn from @sycamore‘s stash; knit 2019
bottom row, right: Denton’s “Pumpkin Spice” again; same yarn as top pumpkin; knit 2016
Sycamore is to blame for all this orange yarn. I swear I’ve put a dent in the stash, since getting it in 2014, but there’s still so much orange yarn. Anyway, I’m pumpkin’ed out for the season.
