Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The Vampire Diaries (TV) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Elena Gilbert/Damon Salvatore Characters: Elena Gilbert, Damon Salvatore Additional Tags: established Elena/Stefan, but that's only cuz this fic is season 1 compliant, Season 1 Episode 18, s1e18 Under Control, season 1 Damon is terrible but he's terrible in the same way I assume crack is terrible, I can't get enough of him
Summary:
Damon had one motivation in death: free Katherine.
“The last I saw her was Chicago. 1983. She knew where you were Damon. She didn’t care.”
Now that he has nothing to be dead for, he finds solace in the living breathing girl with Katherine's face.
Damon swings his legs down and slips from her bed, and from the nest of her delicious smell. He slides up to her, pressing teddy into her chest. She catches the bear. Brushing past her, Damon leans a bit too close into her body. Warmth. She is so alive with the pumping blood and its warmth.
“Well, maybe Stefan's problem is that he’s spent too long not being himself.” If only she knew.

I'm confused. I don't understand how one minute, you say you ship Forwood and have Forwood content on your blog. But then most of your other posts about Caroline are bashing her and saying how she's useless, irrelevant, and annoying. Basically implying that as a person on her own and outside of her relationship, she isn't worthy and has no purpose or agency of her, and is only capable of being interesting and likable based on the guy she's with.
You're not required to like Caroline, but it doesn't take liking her to see how harmful and problematic this kind of mentality is. I don't know what's gotten into fans recently, that they suddenly have it out for Caroline, but the things I've seen being said about her lately are just not acceptable. She may not have been a perfect person, but regardless of what she did, that's no excuse for people to dog her out the way they have. I mean, you're acting as if Caroline is the devil incarnate or some kind of terrorist or something. And just because she was my favorite, doesn't mean I approved or agreed with everything she did. But unlike you and most fans, I know how to give constructive criticism and hold people accountable without having to dogpile on that person.
And as for Elena, I did like her in seasons 1-3, but seasons 4 and onwards? I'm sorry, but she was just vile and horrible. I will never stand by and defend or make excuses for someone who knew for a fact that her boyfriend raped and abused her best friend, and still chose to be with him anyway and just didn't care. Whether you like Caroline or not, regardless of you thought she was useless and all that, that doesn't change the fact that at the end of the day, Damon did rape her and abuse her in season one. It doesn't make what he did null and void. Unless you're one of those who's in denial and refuses to accept that Damon is a rapist and abuser. Or who victim blames/shames Caroline for that and says she deserved it. Which in that case, you've got bigger issues and are just as bad as all the rest of them.
Why don't you keep that same energy and aim that vitriol at characters who actually deserve it, and have done shit far worse and more abhorrent than Caroline? Like the majority of the men on the show? But I seem to have forgotten that men can do vile shit time and time again and still get defended. While if a woman makes even one mistake, she'll be burned at the stake over it for the rest of her life.
I “like” Caroline with Tyler because she’s forced upon me but when she’s with Tyler, she’s contained into that relationship and I don’t have to deal with her crap & her drama. So I liked them in sense it gives me a break from Caroline. She doesn’t have to shoved everywhere.
Tyler makes her bearable. I “ship” them in the sense of Caroline must be with someone because she’s there then I would prefer her to be with Tyler rather than anyone else on the show, I would “ship” her with Matt as well because it’s literally the same.
I never defend Damon or reblog any posts defending that rapist, it’s honestly disgusting that they actually made him & Caroline “close friends” or whatever bullshit is that. He has shown NO remorse or guilt for what he did to Caroline, or Bonnie or Stefan for that matter.
I’m disgusted that I was hardcore Delena shipper & Damon defender (never about what he did to Caroline, as a Delena shipper I just conveniently forgot what he did, no seriously I did)
Damon is an ACTUAL CREEP, hanging out with teenagers looking his age a man in his 30’s paining over a teenager he hardly knows/understands, where his whole life purpose is to just obsess with her 24/7.
It’s honestly pathetic, creepy and weak. What he couldn’t find someone closer to his age, a woman in her 20’s-30’s?
He has to go after his brother girlfriend? Why it does NOT add or make any sense and Elena is NOT at all the right fit for him in any shape or form, even if he wasn’t a rapist, creepy stalker he does NOT like WHO she is, he does NOT care about the things & people that matter to her, he mocks it, he belittles it and he literally thinks he “knows her better” because Elena has a fun side to her. He does NOT actually know her NOR UNDERSTANDS NOR love her, he loves the “nicer” version of Katherine (the only woman he actually truly loved with all her evilness) which is what Elena is to him, nothing more nothing less, Damon 100% PROJECTS Katherine into Elena but this version is actually nice to him but that’s about it.
The fact in his delusion after yeh werewolf but in 2x22 he “sees” Katherine and NOT Elena (even as Delena shipper back then I found that to very odd, because he supposedly spent the whole season hating Katherine & loving Elena yet he sees Katherine) just proves that he never actually stopped loving Katherine, she just hurt too many times and he has pride, had Katherine truly offered to be with him at any given time a real offer, I 100% know he would have taken her upon that offer and they would been the villains of the show for years (oh wait even though they weren’t together, they kind of were)
Damon is literally the male version of Katherine, the only difference Damon being a handsome “charming” MAN he was EXCUSED for all of his actions, he was DEFENDED endlessly Inter expense of other characters and freaking storylines.
The Damon the whole fandom seems to love oh so much is literally a made up Damon in their heads, I know this through my own personal experience and from how the still Delena stand defend him, this “sad little boy who was never loved hence he did all these awful things” he just needs the “love of a good woman” is what they want to believe him to be, it’s NOT who he truly is.
The reality is that Damon is pathetic, creepy, disgusting stalker/rapist and if Damon wasn’t played by such an attractive actor and played by an average looking guy who they (the make up artists)?also make him ugly with the right makeup, people would see the REAL Damon for exactly who is.
The reason you don’t like Elena S4-S6 is because that’s NOT the real Elena, the real Elena “died” when she became a vampire, her moments with Stefan before she broke up with him, that’s also the REAL Elena FIGHTING very hard to stay herself.
The Elena that’s with Damon is vampire sired Elena, and there was never an actual logical or real explanation or any kind of REAL evidence that her sire bond to Damon was ever actually broken.
The fact that she didn’t take the cure shows that NOT the real Elena, that she STILL did whatever Damon wanted (which for her to never to take the cure). Throughout S4 all she ever wanted to become human again and I would think that after her brother died to make sure they find it, that she would actually take it, if nothing else, she would take it for Jeremy’s sake so that his death actually means something.
Now onto your issue with me not liking Caroline, I literally NEVER ever liked her, not for one real minute, sure she had her moments here & there as vampire but I NEVER liked, she’s annoying af, selfish, shallow, stupid, self created and just right down BORING and stereotypical. She’s just an empty pretty vase/vessel for the writers to fill with whatever bullshit story they come up with.
I have actually tried to like her, believe it or not but I literally COULDN’T, just truly can NOT like her at all, she’s too blah as a person to me ever like or relate to in any shape or form.
Her fans/stans also just made it much worse, I didn’t like her but I have grown to hate her over the years because fans/stans such as yourself, who just can’t accept that there are people out there who hate/dislike their “precious” Caroline and nitpick onto other characters or much worse bully & give life threatening messages just because people actually “dared” to HATE their “precious” favorite Caroline, this “angelic Karen, Barbie vampire” who can do NO wrong at all, and everyone “must” be crazy about her.
Now as I have already explained everything to you, even as someone who hates/can’t stand Caroline, carline has never loved anyone to else as much as she loved Tyler, whoever ships Caroline with Klaus clearly does NOT love Caroline because she has made so very extremely and very annoyingly clear she is NOT interested in Klaus.
So if you shop Caroline & Klaus, you are shipping two people who do NOT actually exist (just like Delena or Hayley & Elijah) they are NOT their TRUE/REAL selves when these couples are shipped, simply projection of what people think these characters are.
I hope i answered everything and that next time you don’t just assume things about a person then hide behind “ anonymous” to feel as if you are a better person or whatever.

why do you think the writers chose to make the steroline proposal so similar to the stelena one?
If I were a Steroline shipper, I would say that the purpose is to show that SE was a long-ago fantasy but SC is what's real and immediate and in front of him and that's what the parallels are meant to indicate. The "healthy" Steroline equivalent of Delena's "We're messy and we're complicated but we're real".
As a Stelena shipper, and taking in the fact that season 8 has a lot of loaded Stelena moments (not even accounting for season 7)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In season 8 Stefan could’ve spoken about how he told Caroline at the festival that things would be OK again, that they’ll make it through, he chose to speak about Elena
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Caroline is the one who brings them up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bonnie tells him to find hope,
Tumblr media
the first thing we see him do is write in his diary to Elena:
Tumblr media
The show even continues the narrative of Stefan being unable to leave town because Elena keeps him in MF:
Tumblr media
which is a pattern Katherine brought up in season 5:
Tumblr media
that we saw in season 1:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And season 3:
In 3x04 Klaus returns with him to Mystic Falls because Stefan couldn’t adequately lie to Rebekah about maybe loving someone else the way he loved Elena.
In 3x21, 3x22 he says he’ll leave town if she chooses Damon but she chooses him instead and more than that becomes a vampire so he stays.
Even Cade who is manipulated by Katherine, the way Katherine tortures Stefan has nothing to do with Caroline directly, she’s a casualty of her plan yes, but her plan is focused on making Stefan destroy his relationship with Elena once and for all, to poison their relationship:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
taking in the fact that Elena is the last person he sees before he dies
Tumblr media
taking in the fact that in season 6, Julie said this
Julie Plec: They [Stefan and Caroline] are sharing an experience of having to say goodbye to someone they care about [who] ultimately is Stefan’s true love. (source)
in season 8 KW said this
He pauses, then continues, “If there was any other conversations, we ended on this one. This show was always about Stefan being the hero, and if Stefan could not have Elena, Stefan could do this very nice thing of giving his brother the chance to live with Elena.”
I think the parallel is what I said in my "Just Be Happy" gifset
When I spoke to the anon about 8x05 and the kitchen scene, there was something about it that felt off to me that I couldn’t articulate until now. Making breakfast and getting coffee/tea whatever in the morning with your partner is innocuous enough, thousands of couples do that all the time, but within the context of other scenes in the season it feels as if Stefan is trying to recreate the Stelena fantasy life with Caroline in an effort to do what Elena told him to do in 6x22: be happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When push comes to shove, Elena is still the person Stefan draws hope, strength and inspiration from as seen in 8x01 and in 8x05 and there’s just something mechanical about his life with Caroline.

Ships in The Vampire Diaries that make absolutely no sense and shouldn't have happened:
1. Elena and Damon - Julie Plec, what were you smoking when you decided to make them a couple? Damon killed Elena's brother, abused one of her best friends, almost killed her other best friend, attempted to kill her multiple times, and nearly caused her to become a vampire by forcing his blood down her throat. Julie literally had to change Elena's personality in the later seasons because she knows that it would be totally out of character for her to fall in love with Damon. Elena and Damon have one of the most toxic relationships on the show, and I am so mad that they ended up presumably getting married and having children after the show ended.
2. Caroline and Matt - Matt was still in love with Elena and constantly compared Caroline to Elena. I'm not blaming Elena because it wasn't her fault that her ex-boyfriend was still not over here even though they've been broken up for MONTHS and she was in a committed and happy relationship with another guy. Matt was also a hypocrite. The reason he broke up with Caroline was because she's a vampire, but in the third season, he becomes attracted to Rebekah, who is also vampire. So, he never actually liked Caroline and just needed an excuse to break up with her.
3. Bonnie and Jeremy - I love Bonnie and Jeremy. They're amazing characters (more so the former), but I DESPISED their relationship. It just sorta came out of nowhere. They had cute moments, but I just wasn't feeling it. And then the writers had Jeremy cheat on Bonnie with Anna, who'd been dead since the first season. Like, why? Why couldn't the writers just allow Bonnie to be happy? And then they got back together briefly, and I was like, 'Bonnie, girl, did Grams not teach you anything about self-worth and self-love?' So, yeah, that ship shouldn't have existed.
4. Elena and Klaus - So, I don't understand this ship at all, but lots of TVD fans love the idea of this relationship happening. Elena and Klaus wouldn't have fallen in love with each other. Yeah, the actors had amazing chemistry, but the relationship their characters would have had wouldn't have made any sense. Elena murdered Klaus' brother and attempted to kill him and his siblings. Klaus murdered Elena's aunt, killed her, used her as a human blood bag, terrorized her and her friends, and was partially responsible for her brother becoming a hunter. Their relationship (if it had happened) would've been more toxic than Delena.
5. Caroline and Klaus - I never understood this ship. Klaus falling in love with a baby vampire? Huh? He's been alive for over a thousand years. You're telling me he's never encountered another baby vampire with blonde hair and blue eyes and who has a similar personality to Caroline? And the writers dumbed Klaus down in the third season by having him constantly fall for Caroline's tricks. He was so smart in the second season, and his intelligence, cleverness, and ruthlessness made him so scary. In the third and fourth seasons, he's showing remorse to Caroline, a girl who has attempted to kill him and his family multiple times, a girl he hasn't known for very long but seems to be so obsessed with for literally no reason. I just wished the writers could have given a reason for Klaus' interest in Caroline. What made her so appealing to him? What caused him to 'fall in love' with her? Don't give me that 'you're beautiful, you're full of light' crap.
6. Elena and Tyler - Uh... no? Elena and Tyler are friends. Just friends.
7. Bonnie and Kol - I like the idea of this ship. Bonnie is a witch, and it's been confirmed in both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals that Kol loves witches because he'd been one just before his mother turned him into a vampire. But Bonnie and Kol have never really interacted. Their only interaction was a 5-second glance in the hallway. But I love reading fanfictions about them, though.
8. Klaus and Hayley - No. Klaus and Hayley had a one night stand, and if it wasn't for Hope, they'd never speak to each other again. Klaus and Hayley initially disliked one another during the first season of The Originals, but towards the end of the series, they have become family, best friends, and incredible co-parents. Klaus and Hayley love each other, not romantically, but platonically. And that is a better relationship than a romantic one. I guess The Originals taught a lot of people that just because two people have a child together doesn't mean they have to end up with that person. Klaus 'fell in love' with Camille, and Hayley fell in love with Elijah.
9. Klaus and Camille - Doesn't make any sense. At least Caroline was a vampire when Klaus met her. Camille is a human, and Klaus has said it himself that he doesn't really care about humans. So, his relationship with Camille came out of nowhere. I don't see Camille as a carbon copy of Caroline because the characters are different besides their blonde hair and their names having the same first two letters. I just don't understand the appeal.
10. Hope and Lizzie - Hope and Lizzie have a great rivalry and friendship, but Lizzie isn't in love with Hope. Many fans like to point out that the reason Lizzie is sired to Hope is because she had feelings for her while she was a siphoner witch, but those same fans have never watched the last season of The Originals because it was explained that any person Hope turns with her blood will be sired to her. She's the daughter of the original hybrid, after all. And Josie was the one who had a crush on Hope. She even admitted it in an episode to Hope, so...
11. Caroline and Damon - No. God, no. I don't even have to explain why this doesn't make any sense.
12. Rebekah and Matt - Rebekah was infatuated with Matt, but she was never actually in love with him. Rebekah has always wanted to be human and have a normal life for centuries, and she meets Matt, who is the only human in the Mystic Falls gang. She becomes infatuated with him and the idea of normalcy. If Rebekah was truly in love with Matt, she wouldn't have caused his car to drive off of Wickery Bridge with both Matt and Elena inside the vehicle. She'd hesitate and have second thoughts. After she sleeps with him, she never talks about him again and moves on quickly to Marcel, which brings me to the final ship on my list.
13. Rebekah and Marcel - I don't care if the two aren't blood related and that Klaus didn't actually adopt Marcel. Rebekah met him when he was 10 years old and watched him grow up. If Marcel was like a son to Klaus, then I understand why he was so against their relationship. It almost seems like Rebekah was grooming Marcel, and that is just so fucked up and creepy.
14. Stefan and Caroline - I lied. This is the actual last ship I'll discuss. Stefan and Caroline had an amazing platonic relationship. She reminded him of Lexi, which almost brought tears to my eyes. But then Julie Plec had to fuck all of that up and have Stefan and Caroline start dating, get married, only to have Stefan sacrifice himself for Elena. Like, what the actual fuck? Again, they should've just stayed friends.
15. Caroline and Alaric - I lied again. This is the last ship, I promise! Caroline was Alaric's student, and he was like a father figure to Elena and Jeremy. Her becoming pregnant with his children was already weird, but to have them be in a relationship is just disgusting. TVD fans have to remember that Alaric is not a vampire. Stefan and Damon are over a hundred years old, but they look physically young and have the mentality of the ages they were when they turned. For example, Stefan was turned at 17 and still thinks and acts like a teenager! Alaric is in his mid-40s or something, and Caroline was in her early 20s. That's not cool! And having her be in a relationship with Alaric for the sake of the twins is also fucked up because she's not in love with Alaric but is forcing herself to marry him for his children! No!
I'm done.
Damn. I love your opinions anon, this is certainly gonna be interesting.
Damon and Elena: they're a popular ship, I'll give them that, but they're totally an ick for me. Damon killed her brother just because he thought she didn't love him any longer, and he smiled while hearing her cry about it. Not to talk about the fact that he spend three seasons trying to get her to fall in love with him, and once she did, it was in the most disgusting way ever: he literally took advantage of the fact that Stefan was away saving the three of them, to try to make his vulnerable ex girlfriend love him. It's disgusting, and Elena deserved better.
Matt and Caroline: to this day, I still don't know how the hell he managed to pull the most gorgeous girls ever: like seriously, Rebekah, Nadia and Caroline? But yeah, Matt was clearly not over Elena which just made Caroline's insecurities worse. He def shouldn't have dated her at all, seeing he was still hung up in his ex girlfriend.
Jeremy and Bonnie: Jeremy made me so fucking mad by cheating on Bonnie with a literal ghost. Their relationship came out of nowhere, and it was weird as hell. He was still in love with Anna and Bonnie deserved a lot better than him. The way they had them be back together for like two episodes I think was so weird. The writers hatred towards Bonnie is just disgusting.
Klaus and Elena: I actually do see where the shippers are coming from with this ship, even if they realistically wouldn't have lasted at all. He was once in love with Tatia, and I do headcanon he fucked Katherine to make her like him back in her human ages because it would be in character for him, so I can picture him trying to seduce Elena or something similar out of boredom or to spit someone and etc. Fairytale Ending by @livlepretre kinda touches this, and it's a really good dark romance book so I recommend it to everyone!
Klaus and Caroline: eww. This shouldn't even be considered a ship: Caroline said she was terrified of him and was never herself when spending time together, and Klaus literally started obsessing over her out of nowhere. Their dynamic reminds me of that one line Rebekah said to Caroline "I'm only interested in yours (life). Your spunk, your popularity. Maybe even your boyfriend". Klaus having a crush on Caroline was just his way of spiting Tyler. They wouldn't have worked at all.
Tyler and Elena: I wasn't even aware they were a ship.
Bonnie and Kol: I actually like them both, even if I'm more of a klonnie fan myself. Kol would have treated her a thousand times better than any of her ex lovers and with his love for witches, they would have made a great couple.
Klaus and Hayley: Klaus would have without a doubt killed Hayley if she hadn't become Hope's mother. They're family and best friends, but that's all. They do have sexual tension sometimes, but Joseph and Phoebe have chemistry with almost every person on set so.
Klaus and Cami: I do agree that Klaus falling in love with a human is strange, but not totally. His relationship with Camille was toxic at its beginning, and then the famous forced proximity trope became canon for them. Then he fell in love with her, sending her away for her own safety and etc. Like Cami said, Klaus only spend time with immortals to avoid grief, but he was in a sense forced to spend time with her for having her write his memories and he ended up falling for her and etc, but I do get your point.
Hope and Lizzie: People get so obssesed over Lizzie saying a platonic "I love you" to Hope and over hosie canonically liking each other for like a week in their childhoods. I don't think any of those ships could have worked out, if I'm being honest: Hope loved Landon and the girls had their own love problems.
Damon and Caroline: this is... actually a thing??? Wtf.
Matt and Rebekah: yep, Bex couldn't have cared less about him. Matt was everything she couldn't be any longer: human, happy, with mortal preoccupations and able to procreate. But once she slept with him, she literally left him in the dust and never even bothered to call (Klaus and Caroline I'm opposite gender lmao).
Marcel and Rebekah: Charles and Claire had amazing chemistry, but the ship is a big no. Rebekah groomed him, and she was throwing tantrums 24/7 about Marcel loving New Orleans more as if she didn't fall in love with Stefan two years later after his supposed death and well, she saw him grow up and still was attracted to him. This is the only time Klaus was right for daggering her, outside his own reasons.
Stefan and Caroline: I do think it was clear/obvious in the writers plan they were gonna make steroline a couple at some point, but not make them endgame. If I'm not wrong, because people love lying in this fandom, stelena was gonna be endgame but Nina left and etc, so they couldn't do what they wanted and instead steroline and delena were the remaining couples. I can't really tell you what I think of this ship, as I haven't rewatched tvd outside s3/s4 since 2018. But it is pretty funny to me that Stefan died to get out of his relationship, as some people say.
Caroline and Alaric: this is just a big no. Caroline was basically forced to carry his kids, she was turned into a walking incubator without her consent and then Alaric acted as if he did all the job, as if she hadn't raised and loved the twins as if they were her own flesh and blood. And he was literally her teacher once, so just no. They are a complete ick.

I got a lot of edits on my fyp prior to watching any TVDU show so I knew a solid amount of the plot lines prior to watching either show, which also means I knew what characters were normalized to be hated/loved. I started these shows and expected to absolutely despise Matt, Elena, Tyler, and Cami. None of them are my favorite, but I never understood the hate for any of them whatsoever.
The Matt hate just makes no sense, I’m convinced people just want to “fit in” and hate the person that everyone else hates. You pretty much explained everything I would say for him so I’ll hold back a bit here. And yeah, I’m tired of people pretending he’s not attractive cause there is not a single actor on this show that doesn’t look good.
Everyone calls Elena a crybaby, but if they had lost the amount of people that she had before they’re even 20 years old, I guarantee you they’d be crying even more than she did. And calling her selfish? She very rarely ever put herself over anyone. There’s also the argument that she ‘played Stefan’ which in my opinion is just straight out wrong, it’s not like she was pretending to be in love with him while she was with him, but if you hate her for that, you’d have to hate like half the show. I swear everyone dated everyone within that friend group, why do people only hate on her for it? Also this has nothing to do with my point, but why does everyone hate on her NH era? I liked it, it gave her character something different.
Everyone hates on Tyler for one of two reasons. One being that he tried to SA Vicki in season 1, which you would think is a valid excuse, but then they go onto say Klaus, Damon, and/or Katherine is their favorite character (and I’m saying this as my Damon and Klaus are both in my top 5 TVDU characters). The second reason would be something along the lines of Tyler wanting to get revenge on Klaus. I do think he went too far with trying to kill Hayley/hope, but aside from that, he had every right to get revenge on Klaus. He killed his mom and practically ruined his life, including messing with his relationship with Caroline. I actually love Forewood, but I don’t think they could’ve been endgame after that. So I don’t get why people hate on him for leaving Caroline, because I feel like continuing to lead her on when his head is nowhere near the right space would’ve been worse.
Then there’s cami, which is honestly the most confusing one out of all to me. I completely understand her not being your favorite, especially if you’re into more of the anti heroes or villains (like me), but I do not understand why people just absolutely despise her. She plays a major part in the originals, especially early on, as she is the only person Klaus seems to care about listening to whatsoever. He isn’t paying Hayley any sort of attention, and he lied to/betrayed Elijah left and right in season 1. She’s also never betrayed anyone that she considers to be friends or family. The biggest reason she’s hated on is because she ‘stole Klaus from Caroline.” 1. I genuinely just do not get what people see in klaroline. I don’t absolutely despise them, but I do not like them either. Klaus hurt her multiple times (which, by the way, why do people act like Klaus is a hero for saving Caroline from a bite he caused…?) and Caroline was manipulating him every chance she got. I totally understand the whole ‘enemies to lovers’ trope, considering I like delena, but I just do not get it here. 2. How did anyone see that Klaus (and the originals) was getting his own show, and still expect klaroline to work out? 95% of interactions they had post TO being made was complete fan service. It would’ve been WAY too difficult to do a long distance thing with two different shows, especially when neither of them were (im so gonna get hated for this) never in love with each other, they weren’t even in a relationship. Oh and back to the forewood thing real quick, Tyler had every right to be pissed at Caroline for sleeping with Klaus.
Well that turned into a klaroline bashing towards the end. For the record my top 5 characters are Damon, Elijah, kol, hayley, and Klaus in that order and there really aren’t any ships (canonical ships anyway) that I absolutely hate so.
Side note, thank you for being able to hold characters accountable. I like characters as villains/anti heroes because they are a villain/anti hero, I will never understand why people try to defend their favorite character and make them seem like a hero. Like the character for their character, don’t make them into something completely different. If you wanna debate anything further (or something entirely different) let me know, I enjoy debating about shows, I just typically can’t find anyone in this fandom (or any fandom for that matter) that is able to have an actual debate without someone starting to scream over an opinion lmao.
There really isn’t a question here I just kinda felt like ranting after reading your post about Matt Donovan so here it is. Reply to this as you please!
I was fortunate enough to watch the shows before I got into the fandom so I didn't get spoilers (at least for TVD), but more importantly, I didn't have anyone to influence me on which characters to like or not. Which was why I was so surprised when I joined the fandom and saw so much hatred. But I do think some people just "bandwagon" hate characters. Especially Matt. Because anytime I ask people why, they can't even truly express why they *hate* him.
Elena was never my favorite character but I loved early seasons of Elena. I even enjoyed her NH era. I didn't like her sire bond era much. But she definitely gets too much hate. Even at times when I think she can be selfish, she's still miles better than the men the fandom loves.
I've actually posted about Tyler before, you can find that here. Sure, he's done questionable/problematic things, but who hasn't? The hate he gets is ridiculous, especially because it always comes from Damon or Klaus stans. I actually like Caroline and adored Forewood, but I hated how she handled the breakdown of their relationship. I blame the writers. They continuously tanked Caroline's character in order to get views with klaroline.
I love Cami and she is the one character that I truly believe has done no wrong. Cami was truly a turning point for Klaus. Cami was not only an important person for Klaus but for the entire Mikaelson family and the entirety of New Orleans. I also wrote about that recently. But yes, 100% of the hate she gets is because of Klaroline stans. I used to be indifferent to Klaroline. Like I don't like them because they are toxic and I would never ship them, and there are plenty of ships I feel this way about, but the fandom has made me actively dislike them. Klaroline had no possible way of working out and was just lust, but people build them up in their head and then attacked and harassed a real life person because of their delusions.
I'm glad you found my post and enjoyed it! I love finding people that want to engage and have actual discussions about the fandom. Too many people get so set in their views and can't discuss the characters without getting angry. I completely agree. We can all love the characters but 99% of the characters in this show are problematic to say the least. We can love them and still acknowledge this. I love to analyze the morality of the show because it is interesting as we can't use are real life standards to do so. I obviously love over analyzing everything about the show as I spend so much time doing so.
Feel free to ask anything or reach out!

I need to rant.
I've started watching The Vampire Diaries and I'm sorry… Damon/Delena stans are annoying as fucking hell.
First by how much they bash Caroline for hating Damon and Delena. Caroline has every right to hate him/them. Damon abused her/raped her in season 1/used her as a blood bag to feed off of. He was horrible to her. Also when she first turned into a vampire he was dead set on killing her. Despite how traumatized she was about the whole situation, he was too selfish to try to understand. He saw her as a pesky thing that can't be controlled. He was also not at all apologetic when she called him out on it. He in fact was more annoyed. Never got an apology for how he treated her.
So yeah Caroline has every right to hate Damon.
Now perhaps she shouldn't have slept with Klaus with all the shit he did to her friends/her ex's mom. But they didn't actually end up together. She couldn't move past everything he did, and that's very valid and fair.
Next fans bash Stefan especially for the moment he was trying to scare Klaus into thinking he'd kill Elena by driving off the bridge her parents died on/she almost died on. Now don't get me wrong that scene was fucked up, and Stefan was awful in that moment. But I think fans fail to try and understand where Stefan was coming from in that moment. Klaus had a toll on him all summer, and he kept him at bay/ran off with him so he wouldn't find out about Elena being alive. But then he find out, and compelled him to turn off his humanity switch and attack Elena. He did everything in his power to not be compelled but really was left to no choie. So he wanted to one up Klaus/defeat him/beat him at his own game. He was tired of that control Klaus had on him. It was terrifying and awful, but I understand why he did it/where he was coming from.
You know what I don't understand? Damon snapping Jeremy's neck/killing him. He only got lucky because Jeremy had the ring on to protect him from death by supernatural. If not for that weing Jeremy would have been dead. And why? Because Elena rejected him, and he wanted to punish her for it. You know prior to that I acually felt sympathy for him. He was brutally rejected by Katherine just before, but that's not Elena's fault. That's not Jeremy's fault.
And you know I don't think they fully addressed that well enough? Damon gave a half-assed apology but then got pissy and compared Elena to Katherine when she said she can't be his friend after what happened. Because he felt "used". They tried to frame Elena in the wrong here, and that's wild as hell to me.
But fans will try to prop up Damon and be like "at least he didn't make her relive her trauma." No babes. You're right. He actually almost gave her more trauma by losing another family member shortly after her parents.
People will also say Stefan stalked Elena, etc. Hmmm who was it who was watching her sleep in her room and stroking her face? Oh right. Damon.
Despite all this I don't hate Damon. I know this is a vampire show, and therefore people are going to do horrible things. Blah, blah, blah. I love a good villain. But the writers and fans gloss past this shit and act like it didn't really happen/wasn't a big deal.
