#dedalus and dudley?

i love beasts with my whole soul, it's so heartfelt and intelligently written. love reading the author's notes afterwards, love everything about it. do you have any headcanons about harry and the dursleys maybe years later, if they've reconnected or if harry forgave them?
ok firstly you're a star and it's very important that you know that. thank you so so much for reading and enjoying my fic and my inane author's notes you absolute legend
i fear my headcanons on the dursleys are all a bit boilerplate and boring! i'm a big fan of the widely accepted idea of harry and dudley having a sort of polite but sort of nice rapprochement of sorts as adults that dudley initiates and harry sort of goes along with, a bit baffled, for dudley's sake. i quite like the reunion happening at the burrow partly because i like the idea of dudley a) sat in the weasleys' garden feeling clever for the first time in his life explaining to arthur the concept of a sit-on lawnmower and b) meeting ginny and having to wrap his head around the concept of his flop cousin having pulled an absolute baddie.
while i don't think dudley would ever cut himself off or distance himself from his parents (i don't think he has the insight or depth to grasp why he might need to), i like the idea of dudley absorbing enough of dedalus diggle's relentless harry stan content for a year to be able to grasp that harry was actually good vibes and that what his parents did to his cousin during their childhoods was, on some level, wrong. (dedalus and dudley - what a double act. that unlikely duo stayed in touch for the rest of their lives, meeting up every few months at the pizza express in woking for a catch-up. dudley 100% stuck him on the family table at his wedding and gave a vernon a stroke. dudley also fancied hestia that year they were in hiding but unlike dedalus she ran a mile from the dursleys as soon as the war was done and she didn't have to see those tory clowns ever again. harry jokingly-not-jokingly tried to give her his order of merlin for her service.)
i don't think harry ever forgives or has any contact with vernon and petunia again. he does however enjoy the news, relayed through dudley, that grunnings went bust due to catastrophic fiscal mismanagement during the 2008 financial crisis, costing vernon his pension, and that petunia's rose garden was ripped to shreds by piers polkiss' XL bully.

Another set of notes that I’ve had on my phone forever - this is about how I imagine Dudley’s life could be like after the events of Deathly Hallows.
Enjoy!
Dudley Dursley Post-DH
-the Dursleys come out of hiding in late May
-with the help of Hestia Jones and Dedalus Diggle, they get their house back
-all are a bit shaken, but while Vernon gets over everything really quickly, Petunia and especially Dudley are permanently changed
-Vertunia still agree on their anti-magic sentiment though
-Dudley officially graduates from secondary school in 1999
-during his official last year, he becomes quiet and thoughtful
-Harry briefly visits just to check if he’s ok
-Dudley uses this opportunity to stay in touch with him
-a few months later, they have a deep conversation and Dudley finally learns everything his parents have done to Harry over the years and how he himself was complicit
-Dudley is horrified and apologises profusely
-his relationship with his father becomes distant
-he still has a good relationship with his mother though
-after graduation, Dudley works part-time at a restaurant/tea shop while studying Criminology & Criminal Justice
-he still loves boxing and becomes a substitute teacher at his local boxing school
-when he is 26 (in 2006), he meets a Squib named Eldora Steward [name to be possibly changed], who is related to the Ilvermony founder James Steward
-they get married in 2010 and Dudley takes her last name as he wants to severe ties with his family (especially his father)
-the pair move to Brighton
-he also started therapy when he was 20
-in January 2011, Daisy Eldora Steward is born (28.01.2011)
-in April 2015, Heather Dahlia Steward is born (25.04.2015)
-both children are magical
-Daisy is in Ravenclaw, Heather is in Gryffindor

Vernon Dursley/Dolores Umbridge, Dudley Dursley/Vincent Crabbe/Gregory Goyle, Petunia Dursley/Percy Weasley 😊
thank you very much for the ask, anon! i've decided, after careful review, that i back all of these.
vernon dursley/dolores umbridge
vernon would be immediately sympathetic to her trying to have harry expelled from hogwarts and thrown in prison, would be impressed by her commitment to challenging the wastefulness and excess of wizarding life [and that wizards are unnecessarily flamboyant and incapable of decorum is definitely an opinion umbridge shares], and would find her interest in causing schoolchildren permanent harm to be fascinating and sensible. he regards decorating as a woman's job, so he learns to live with the cat plates and so on, and he's thrilled into proposing marriage when umbridge tracks down dedalus diggle and has him arrested on spurious charges.
it crashes and burns - badly - when he discovers she was the one who set the dementors on dudley. he could forgive her trying to murder harry, but not his boy.
umbridge hooks up with marge in revenge.
vincent crabbe/dudley dursley/gregory goyle
this starts as a joke, which continues far longer than it should do because the three convince themselves that both harry and draco are really pressed and upset by it [this is untrue - harry thinks all three died in the war; draco has a weird eye condition which means he can only see twinks].
but the main recipe for a long-lasting relationship is fundamentally enjoying each other's company. nobody is claiming that vince, big-d, and greg are sophisticated men, but a mutual love of having a cheeky nando's, watching love island while cuddled up on the sofa, getting drunk at the footie, and thinking each other's jokes are class means that this is - by a country mile - one of the healthiest relationships the harry potter universe ever manages to produce.
petunia dursley/percy weasley
they are raking it in producing "hot housewife spanks me for leaving mud on her kitchen floor" content on onlyfans.

HP Rec Fest -- Day 9
Prompt 8: A rarepair fic @hprecfest
The Art of Preservation
Pairing: Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank/Minerva McGonagall
Creator: yletylyf
Rating: K/G
Word Count: 2,000
Summary:
Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank agrees to help rebuild after the war. She's happy to do so, actually. She just wishes she could do it in a place other than that occupied by her old flame, Minerva McGonagall.
Why You Should Read It:
I have @kellychambliss to thank for turning me on to the joys of Minerva/Wilhelmina, which are on abundant display here.
This fic is such a great portrait of the aftermath of a relationship gone wrong–painful, beautiful, and just plain awkward at moments. And then the denouement... so lovely.
This Wilhelmina is wonderful–all the ambivalence is delicious. So brave with the dangerous creatures, and so not when it comes to facing Minerva.
Love Is a Battlefield
Pairing: Dudley/Firenze
Creator: @lash_larue
Rating: M/R
Word Count: 11,575
Summary:
Dudley Dursley is not a common man, he has his preferences and his principles, and he lives by the rules, always. The rules, however, are his own.
Why You Should Check It Out:
Boxing as foreplay! Dudley redeemed! Believable human/centaur relations that stay true to the canon depictions of centaurs! Yes, the author managed it all and more in this wonderful story.
Safe as Houses
Characters: Dedalus Diggle, Dudley Dursley, Hestia Jones, Mundungus Fletcher, Petunia Dursley (née Evans), Vernon Dursley
Pairing: Hestia/Mundungus
Creator: wwmrsweasleydo
Rating: T/PG-13
Word Count: 7,000
Summary: As if it wasn't bad enough babysitting ill-tempered Muggles, now Diggle's turned up with someone Hestia finds most unpleasant.
Why You Should Check It Out:
"Safe As Houses" has some of my favorite elements: missing moments from canon (what happens to the Dursleys after they leave Privet Drive), nicely filled out portraits of intriguing characters we only meet briefly in canon (Hestia, Dedalus, Mundungus), and surprising but believable developments in the relationshps between some of the characters.
Sunlight in the Garden
Pairing: Alice Longbottom/Pomona Sprout
Creator: lyras
Rating: M/R
Warning: References to the emotional fallout of the attack on the Longbottoms; references to memory loss
Word Count: 4,300
Summary:
Pomona hasn't seen Neville since he was a baby, but the moment he steps into her greenhouse, the past begins chasing her down.
Why You Should Check It Out:
"Sunlight in the Garden" is a deeply shaded fic featuring Pomona/Alice Longbottom, with lots of bittersweetness and a finish that made me sigh in delight. I espeically love the Pomona here—she's loyal (of course) and fierce in her own quiet way. I defy you not to love her.
The Vultures of Love
Pairings: Argus/Irma, Minerva/Severus
Creator: dueltastic
Rating: T/PG-13
Word Count: 13,000
Summary:
No author summary given, but fic pairs Minerva/Severus and Argus/Irma, and shows some of Severus' interactions with his mother.
Why You Should Check It Out:
What can I say? It's perfect Minerva/Severus, as far as I'm concerned: tenderness wrapped in the unsentimental, competetive, often snide package these two make. It features a Severus who grows from uncertain young man to confident lover and a Minerva who is recognizably older, more mature, but with a touch of human insecurity. It also features a Filch who is gloriously realized as a character with all his warts intact (like Severus) but also a few surprises. We also get to meet Eileen Prince and get a hint about where Severus got some of his good and bad qualities. A nifty little twist wraps this fic up in a pretty wonderful package.

The Sun Will Come Out // Closed RP
@fidelixcorde
Tumblr media
It was four days shy of Harry’s seventeenth birthday. Never had he chafed so badly for July 31 to come before now, when the stroke of midnight would finally mean he was free of the Trace and of being hindered by underage status; he would be able to use magic freely, finally.
...then again, it seemed, he still had a lot to learn, Harry noted as he cursed quietly and picked up the broken teacup he’d stepped on outside of his bedroom door. One porcelain shard nicked his finger, and he sighed, discarding the pieces before going to clean the cut and put a bandage on. He’d never learned to close wounds, and given what was coming...that was an oversight. He’d need to ask Hermione or Taylor how it worked.
He felt bad for not having noticed the tea. Dudley must have left it; his cousin had noticed how drawn and pale Harry was this summer, and Harry knew that he was worried. The Dursleys were packed up in their car and a trailer, ready to depart, and Harry found himself wishing that he didn’t have to say goodbye to the only decent one of the three.
Taylor really had completely altered his world. When she’d told him that in fiction, his cousin had remained an oversized bully who preferred tormenting Harry to hitting up the park with him and Taylor, it had honestly broken his heart a little. There would forever be a feeling of difference between them--Harry was a wizard, and orphan, and one hell of a trauma survivor, while Dudley was a Muggle with parents who tried to pamper him--but they were still close.
It was Dudley who’d gotten Vernon to shut up and accept that they had to go, in fact. The idiot really had accused Harry of making it all up to get this damned house, as if he wanted anything to do with it after this week, but being reminded of the risks--Dementors, which Dudley and Petunia knew to fear, and the threat of facing the same fate as Harry’s own parents--finally had them settled on going.
Dawn had the Dursleys in the kitchen in stiff silence, eating a small breakfast, all dressed in their travel clothes. Harry glanced at the carriage clock on the mantelpiece, finishing off his bacon. “They’ll be here in about five minutes,” he informed his relatives, getting only a nod from Dudley as a response.
Harry went back in his bedroom, checking again that his rucksack was packed, and then poked a couple of nuts through the bars of Hedwig’s cage. They fell with dull thuds to the bottom, where she ignored them. “We’re leaving soon, really soon,” Harry told her. “And then you’ll be able to fly again. You and Persephone can head to the Burrow ahead of us all.”
Downstairs, the doorbell rang, and Harry straightened up, heading back down. It might be Hestia and Dedalus come for the Dursleys, or it might be Taylor joining him for this awkward parting, and then their own departure. Harry and Taylor were a package deal; not even Kingsley or Mad-Eye would ever manage to keep her from his side.

If you are doing requests can you write something about Ginny and the Dursley’s meeting or Ginny finding out more about the abuse that Harry suffered in his childhood. I love your writing!
I wrote a piece about them talking about the Dursleys before but I am starting to think I never post it. If I find it, I will reblog/post it.
Dursleys
“Can I hex them?” Ginny asked as they walked down Privet Drive.
Harry shook his head. “No.”
“I don’t see why you bother coming at all,” Ginny commented, though she had agreed to come along.
“They asked me to. I don’t expect to see much of them after that,” Harry replied. “Perhaps for Dudley, there is still hope.”
Ginny remained silent as they reached the door. Harry rang the bell.
Dudley opened the door. “Hi, Harry.”
“Hey, Big D,” he responded.
“Who is the girl?” Dudley asked with interest when he spotted Ginny.
“Ginny,” Harry simply responded.
“The girlfriend,” Ginny said with a fake smile, shaking Dudley’s hand.
Harry stepped into the living room, Ginny trailing behind. Vernon and Petunia both nodded at him but stayed silent.
“Ginny Weasley, nice to meet you,” she said in a cheery tone. Harry appreciated the effort she was putting in for his sake, he knew she’d rather hex them to hell and back for how they had treated him.
“Likewise,” Petunia said, clutching her cup of tea.
They both sat down on the couch opposite Petunia and Vernon. Dudley came to sit down too.
“I am glad you have been able to return home safely,” Harry said when no one else said something.
“Dedalus told us but I … we never understood half he said. Is it true? He is gone… for good?” Petunia asked.
“Yes, he is gone,” Harry confirmed.
“Would have been long gone if they let me at him with a gun, if it got you out of the house,” Vernon finally spoke.
“That’s not how it works,” Ginny responded.
Harry touched her knee, he knew she was biting her tongue.
“They said you killed him… with your wand?” Dudley said softly.
Harry turned to look at him. “His own curse rebounded when it collided with mine.”
“Harry,” Ginny said softly. They met eyes and there seemed to be a silent battle going on between them. She gave in. “Fine.”
“I told you he was dangerous,” Vernon said under his breath to Petunia. Ginny gripped her wand.
“For killing the person who killed my sister?” Petunia responded.
“He and his followers killed many and they would have continued. Everyone who was not a full-blood wizard was not worthy, trust me you would have suffered if he won,” Ginny said to Vernon. Her tone was firm.
“I am a law-abiding citizen, they wouldn’t dare!” Vernon objected.
“You really don’t get it, do you?” Ginny said with a frown. “You hold no magic, he had no respect for you. We fought and lost people so Muggles like you could live safely. At the very least you should have the decency to listen when people try to tell you something.”
Vernon looked at Harry, too baffled that the girl had dared to lecture him.
“She is right,” Harry said.
“So what are you doing now then, going to finish school?” Vernon asked.
“Why does that matter to you?” Ginny shot back.
Vernon turned red. “Just like his father! Useless, unemployed, unkempt. Don’t think you can move back in here, boy! I will have nothing of the sort!”
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” Harry responded, trying to contain his anger.
“How dare you!” Ginny jumped up off the couch and pulled her wand out. “You should be ashamed of yourselves! Don’t pretend you ever treated him right! What makes you think he wants to come back here?”
The three recoiled at the sight of her wand and remained silent.
“Well then, go on!” Ginny threatened. “I’ll be happy to curse your ears off!”
“You can’t do that!” Vernon responded.
“Oh, try me, Dursley.” She took a step toward him and he sunk further into his chair.
Harry stood up too. “We’ll be going then. You can rest assured I have no desire to return here. I got my mass-murderer godfather’s inheritance, I am all set, remember?”
Harry turned to leave when Petunia spoke. “Sirius was no mass murderer, he was a smart boy, then.”
His eyes landed on his aunt, conflicted about the fact she knew more than she let on all those years. “No, he wasn’t.”
Ginny was already at the door. Harry walked to her.
“What became of the other one? The Snape boy?” Petunia asked, her voice shaky.
“He died at his hands, protecting our cause.” Harry wasn’t willing to say anymore.
Ginny opened the door and they stepped outside. They turned back around when Dudley stepped outside.
“Thank you, for everything,” he said.
Harry smiled. “Take care, Dud.”
Dudley nodded and Harry took off with Ginny, taking her hand.
“I really thought you were going to hex them for a second,” Harry commented.
Ginny shook her head. “No, I promised. They may find their tea has gone bad, though.”
Harry looked at her in amusement. “All their tea?”
“All of it.”

Alternative to 7 Potters
Snippet from H&S Bonding Fic
Harry’s reaction to leaving the Dursley's and his reaction and alternative to the awful 7 Potters plan.
***
“I can’t believe he’s finally leaving the Dursleys,” Lily smiles.  “I know Petunia has been better for the last month and last summer, but it’s still a relief that Harry’s never going to have to see her, again.  It’s just – being better clearly didn’t erase everything.”
“Yeah, that goodbye was awkward.  At least, Dudley and Harry are getting along now,” James offers.
“Too little, too late,” Sirius states.  “I don’t think they’ll ever be close, considering.”
“Fair.”
“And look here, Hedwig, I used to live under here.  Blimey, it’s small, I’d forgotten,” Harry says, as he shows Hedwig around the house one last time.  “Still can’t believe I’m leaving for good – it was never really home, though mum made it better last summer, I could never see it as home.”
Although he’s talking to Hedwig, they’re all sure that he’s still sort of talking to them, too.  Lily smiles, knowing that she was able to help him – late though that help came.
“I wonder why the plan has changed though,” Harry mutters as everyone bursts in.  There’s thirteen order members – including most of the Weasleys (bar Molly), Fleur, Kingsley, Remus, Tonks, Moody, Hagrid, and Mungdungus. “What – why are you all here?”
“Didn’t Dedalus tell you that the plan changed?” Kingsley asks, as various members hug Harry.  Tonks shows off a wedding ring with Remus.
“He married Tonks?” Sirius demands, eyes wide.  It’s not that he doesn’t want Remus to be happy, but he quite clearly didn’t want the situation.  “Why would they get married?  He kept saying no?”
“Shush!”
“Er – yeah, but he didn’t really explain.  We’re not flying again, are we?” Harry questions, with a frown.  “It’s just – er – not a smart plan.”
“Sort of –”
Moody explains a truly horrible plan that makes Sirius want to out their communication right then and there.  It was somehow worse than their flying plan and it was all based on Dung’s suggestion.  Apparently, the plan was for six of the thirteen to Polyjuice into Harry and the pairs go into different directions so that they would distract anyone who might be following them.  How anyone could think that it’s a good plan is beyond him.
Harry starts to object, when Fred says, “Yeah, one man without magic against thirteen magic users is really going to work.”
There’s some more and forth, but before Harry can object, again, Moody takes the hairs to add to the Polyjuice potion.
“Ooooh, you look much tastier than Crabbe and Goyle, Harry,” Hermione comments, causing Ron to give her a look.
“That would be cuter if not for what they’re about to do,” Lily comments, furious.
“They can’t do this,” James states.  “It’s a dumb plan and they’re trying to do this against his will.”
“They better not,” Sirius growls.  He would find someway back just to hurt them if they did this against Harry’s will.  “There has to be another way.  An easier way.  They can’t really think this is a good plan.”
“I said NO!” Harry yells, and suddenly the vials break and the potion snaps away.  “You have no right to try and do something against my will – becoming me and invading my privacy without my consent.  What is wrong with you?  Any of you – all of you?  How can you think that this is okay?”
“Now, listen here, boy,” Moody starts.
“No, you listen – I’m done with people deciding things for me – I agreed to ONE plan, you have no business coming up with another and expecting me to just go along with it.”
“Harry, it’s – it’s not that bad –” Remus starts, but Harry cuts him off.
“Easy for you to say – it’s not your body that six other people were going to put on display, likely making unkind comments on.  It’s not your choice that you tried to take away.”
“Tried?” Moody asks.  “We’re doing this, whether you like it or not and we don’t have much time.”
Before Harry can speak again, George says, “No, we shouldn’t – we should just go back to the original plan.”
Harry gives him an appreciative look before saying, “I’ve got a better one.”
No one gets a chance to ask what that plan is when Dobby suddenly pops in sends Harry’s things to the Burrow and pops out with Harry in tow.
“Thank goodness that he’s as smart as he is,” Lily smiles.  “Going through with that plan would have been awful.”
“I agree,” Sirius comments, even as Harry’s getting berated by the Order, who had quickly followed him.  “I’m glad that Dobby’s still watching out of him.”
“It worked, didn’t it?” Harry asks.  “Why go with such a dumbarse plan when this works just fine?  Were you trying to get someone killed?”
“Harry, we were just trying to get you here the safest way possible and we thought that the Ministry might be able to track you,” Arthur offers.
“Really?  And you didn’t realize that it’s obvious that I’d come here in the first place?  You can’t track apparition even with the trace on me – it’s not possible.  Surely as Ministry employees – aurors for most of you – you know that?”
The Order members look sheepish.  A few, like Moody, still attempt to say their plan is better, but Harry doesn’t care.  He storms up the stairs and is surprised when Ginny pulls him into her room.
“That was fantastic!  I told them that they’re out of their collective minds to think you’d go along with it.  You value your privacy above all else,” Ginny smiles as she hugs him.  “I know we don’t have long, but –” she gives him a deep, but quick, kiss.  “And I know that you broke up with me, but – I…”
Harry smiles back at her, “Yeah, I get it.  Thanks for understanding me – knowing that I wouldn’t be okay with it.”
Before anymore could be said, George enters the room, “I’m sorry – it was so stupid – I never should’ve agreed.”
“You’re right, you shouldn’t have,” Harry retorts, crossing his arms.  “You should’ve known better … considering.”
“I know – I know,” George states.  “I really am sorry.”
“It’s nice to see our kid stand up for himself,” Sirius grins.
“Especially against someone he loves,” Lily grins.  “It’s good to see him so confident.”
James is grinning, too, as Harry makes his way out of the room without a word, obviously not forgiving George that quickly.
As soon as he’s alone, he calls them, “Can you believe that?”
“It was ridiculous, kid,” Sirius says.  “I’m glad that you got out of that.”
“I can’t believe that anyone would think it was acceptable,” Lily offers.
“I can’t believe they weren’t smart enough to realize that their worries over being followed through apparition and the trace when they all know that it’s not possible,” James states, shaking his head.
“Or that flying wouldn’t be easier to follow rather than apparition anyway,” Sirius offers.
“But I’m glad that you had Dobby on your side to help.”
“Yeah, me too.”  Harry shudders.  “I felt so gross at the thought of them becoming me – probably inspecting my body, mocking me or at least commenting on my appearance that most of them haven’t seen – and will not see now – just because they can.  Invading my privacy.  Completely disregarding my wishes and feelings.  It’s gross.  Makes me completely uncomfortable.”
“It’s good that you stood your ground.  You’d think Moody wouldn’t have been okay with Polyjuice given what we know about what happened your fourth year,” Lily comments.
“Right?  He more than anyone else should understand the ickiness of someone looking like you – seeing your body and pretending to be you.”  Harry shivers, again.  “I’m pretty mad that George, Ron and Hermione even thought it was okay.  Honestly, I think staying at the Burrow is a bad idea right now –”
“It’s just for a few days,” Sirius states.  “Once you’re seventeen, you can go wherever you need to.”
“What if I went home?” Harry asks.  “You did tell me once that the Ministry wouldn’t be able to detect underaged magic there.”
“While true – we know he can get in, he could even tell Voldemort about the location – it’s a risk to go there without making sure that it’s safe from him and death eaters,” Lily states.
“What do you mean?  Dumbledore was the Secret Keeper, not Snape.”
“Except that he’s dead now, which makes everyone that was in on the secret a keeper now,” Sirius explains.  “That includes Snape.”
“Oh, I was kind of looking forward to being in my own room again since it’s my home – it’s stupid that I have to get permission to go home.  You just – you worked so hard on it – hardly seems fair that I don’t get to use it as much as I’d like.”
“I appreciate the sentiment, kid, but I’d rather you be safe.”
“Maybe I’ll send Dobby there to check it out –” Before they can respond, there’s a knock on his door.  “Go away!”
“We just want to apologize,” Hermione yells through the door, the ‘we’ indicating her and Ron.  “Everyone else went home.”
“I don’t care!  I have no interest in talking to anyone that participated or attempted to participate in the stupid seven potters plan,” Harry states, fiercely.
“How are we supposed to go with you on the mission if you won’t talk to us?” Ron yells through the door.
Sighing, Harry ends the call on the mirror and wretches open the door.  “We can talk about it tomorrow as I’m not really interested in discussing anything with anyone who would violate my privacy like that – even if I looked like I ‘tasted good’.”
Hermione blushes at the implications, while Ron answers (after another look at Hermione).
“We are sorry, mate,” Ron offers, lamely.  “But we have been waiting a month to see you…”
“Right and you’re not going to leave me alone now because you want to see me.  Fine, whatever.”
Despite his lackluster response to them, Ron and Hermione enter the room.
“There’s nothing they can say to make this better.”
“Definitely not,” Lily agrees.  “It’s just – what do you say to that?”
“Nothing, poor Harry.  At least he avoided it,” James states.
“Hmm-mm,” Sirius hums.

Do you have any head cannons for what happened during DH for the Dursley’s? And after the war do you think Harry seen any of them?
I do! My impression from the beginning of DH is that Hestia and Dedalus stayed on as the Dursleys' protection for the duration of the war.
At first all three of them avoided talking to Dedalus and Hestia as much as they could, but over time Dudley started talking to them more.
Dudley asked questions, finally giving in to his immense curiosity about the wizarding world and Harry's place in it. Over the course of those ten months, he not only learned a lot about the magical world and his cousin's real life, but he also became quite fond of both Dedalus and Hestia.
Petunia and Vernon managed to remain distant but begrudgingly polite the entire time. They were not involved in any of the conversations. Hestia did catch Petunia listening in on Dedalus and Dudley once, but she never mentioned it.
After the war Dudley stayed in touch with Dedalus and Hestia, with whom he remained good friends until their deaths many years later.
He wrote and re-wrote a letter to Harry over and over, quite unsure what exactly he wanted to say, but he knew he wanted to mend things as best as he could. It wasn't until about 6 months after the war that he finally managed to send it, and they met for a coffee. It was rather uncomfortable, but it could have gone a lot worse.
He and Harry slowly built up a relationship. For many years it was just an exchange of polite Christmas and birthday cards with the very occasional letter - mostly from Dudley, but eventually they started getting together on occasion. Dudley had not been invited to Harry and Ginny's wedding, but he did invite Harry to his own. Harry didn't go, but he sent a gift. When they both had kids, they decided they'd do their best to have their kids know each other.
Dudley and Harry never became super close, and I don't think Harry ever completely let go of their childhood, but they were friendly enough.
Harry never saw Vernon again. They didn't live or work in the same area, and Dudley knew better than to try to get them to see each other. He brought it up once, and Harry made it quite clear that he was not to do so again. Vernon died without them ever reuniting.
Harry did run into Petunia one time by chance. It was their last encounter before her death. I wrote about that interaction in my fic Earl Grey.
Thanks for the ask!

harry potter and the philosopher's stone, ch. 1 overview
MEET THE DURSLEYS
- they lived in no. 4, privet drive
- they were a blonde family
- vernon dursley, the director of grunnings. big, beefy man with hardly any neck, had a very large mustache; did not approve of imagination
- petunia dursley. wife of vernon. thin, had nearly twice the usual amount of neck, loved gossip
- dudley dursley, their son. in their opinion, there was no finer boy anywhere
- they hated the potters
MR. DURSLEY'S MOST EVENTFUL TUESDAY
peculiar events:
- the tawny owl fluttering past their home
- the tabby cat on the corner of their street reading a map and the privet drive sign
- the people dressed in funny clothes on the edge of town
- owls swooping around town in broad daylight
- the rumor at the bakery among the people in cloaks
- mr. dursley's very close encounter with a stranger in a violet cloak, by whom he was addressed as a "muggle"
- the same tabby cat sitting on their garden wall
- evening reports on owls soaring about since sunrise and a downpour of shooting stars
- the tabby cat waiting for something
THE TABBY CAT OF NO. 4, PRIVET DRIVE
- this was minerva mcgonagall's animagus and patronus
- had marking around its eyes. they were in the shape of mcgonagall's square glasses
- in her animagus form, she did not move from her spot all day long until dumbledore arrived at the scene
- in her original form, she looked severe or fierce. she wore an emerald cloak and square glasses. she had black hair drawn into a tight bun
THE OLD MAN IN FUNNY CLOTHES
- this was albus dumbledore
- he was tall, thin, and very old. he had long silver hair and beard
- he wore long purple robes and high-heeled, buckled boots, and wore half-moon spectacles
- he had light, bright, and sparkling blue eyes and had a very long crooked nose
- he possessed the put-outer or deluminator
- he was very fond of sherbet lemon or lemon drop
- voldemort feared him
- he mentioned he blushed at madam pomfrey's positive remark on his new earmuffs
- he had a scar above his left knee that was the perfect map of the london underground
THE CELEBRATION OF A DARK LORD'S DEFEAT
- mcgonagall felt furious about the celebrations because they were not done discreetly in the muggle world
- dumbledore mentioned the eleven-year war with voldemort
- dedalus diggle was the star shooter from kent
- she waited the entire day to hear the news from dumbledore about lord voldemort's defeat, the cause of the celebrations, and its repercussions
THE RUMORS ON THE DARK LORD'S DISAPPEARANCE AND THE DEATH AT GODRIC'S HOLLOW
- dumbledore confirmed the rumors to be true. the dark lord turned up at godric's hollow, where the potters lived. he killed lily and james potter, harry's parents, and was about to kill harry too when his power broke. then he vanished
THE BOY WHO LIVED
- this was harry potter, son of deceased parents lily and james potter
- he had jet black hair and a cut over his forehead shaped like a bolt of lightning
- since he had no other available relatives, harry will have to live with the dursleys
- but dumbledore chose the dursleys, a muggle family, so harry could grow up not knowing he was famous in the wizarding world where he was dubbed as "the boy who lived"
THE ARRIVAL OF HAGRID AND THE BOY
- hagrid came through with a motorcycle he lent from sirius black, harry's godfather, and he brought with him young harry himself
- hagrid was almost twice as tall as a normal man and at least five times as wide. he had a wild appearance. he had long tangles of bushy black hair and beard. he had hands the size of trash can lids, and his feet in their leather boots were like baby dolphins
- hagrid reported to dumbledore about the ruins of the potter house and his transport of harry to privet drive
- as he passed the boy to dumbledore in a bundle of blankets, he grieved and wailed for the potters
THE PACKAGE DELIVERED AT NO. 4, PRIVET DRIVE WITH SPECIAL NOTE
- dumbledore laid harry gently on the doorstep of the dursley residence and tucked a letter inside his blankets
- along with hagrid and mcgonagall, the three of them took a moment to let the situation sink in
- afterwards, hagrid rode off into the night sky. mcgonagall departed as well in her animagus form, and dumbledore disapparated
- not knowing he was special and famous and not knowing that there were people celebrating his existence which brought upon the death of voldemort, young harry continued in his sleep

Does anyone know of any good fanfiction that follows The Dursleys, Hestia Jones and Dedalus Diggle after they leave Privet Drive at the start of Deathly Hallows?
I just got to thinking it would be fun and interesting to read about it. I kinda hope the Dursleys will come around a little after a while. Not completely, but just... A little.

Shout out to the real heroes of the second Wizard war. Dadalus Diggle and Hestia Jones, who had to spend a lot of time with the Dursleys.

Jk I’d be far more interested in a book about the time the Dursleys lived with Hestia Jones and Dedalus Diggle than anything in the cursed child.

Diggle is far too righteous about the Dursley’s lack of interesting and knowledge about their hero they’d been housing for the last sixteen years for him to be interested in educating them at the this point, but Hestia does not think them beyond redemption.
When Dudley, too tall and too big and too awkward, stands at the doorway of her makeshift bedroom in their safehouse flat and asks, “Who was Cedric Digory? I heard his name on Potterwatch tonight,” she finally gets the opportunity to teach him what she should have known all along. She starts with the Triwizard Tournament, and then goes back to the beginning, telling Harry Potter’s cousin all she knows about his accomplishments and trials, and all she’s heard from the rest of the Order about his heart.
Dudley cries for much of it, but by the end, he’s grateful to finally have some semblance of knowledge about the boy he’s been hurting their entire lives. It’s what makes him decide to join the Wizarding World when the war is over, whether Harry survives or not.

I like to believe Dudley stays in touch with Dedalus Diggle and Hestia Jones. And he actually rather likes Ron and Hermione.

I'm re-reading Harry Potter series (again)! And I'm gonna comment on every part of it.
Harry potter and the sorcerer's stone
Chapter one
Why do the wizards use owls, and not pigeons? The pigeons attract less attention from the muggles.
And how did the wizards know Voldemort has gone?
“Shoo!” said Mr. Dursley loudly. The cat didn’t move. It just gave him a stern look. Was this normal cat behavior?
Absolutely!!

"
Viewers as far apart as Kent, Yorkshire, and Dundee have been phoning in to tell me that instead of the rain I promised yesterday, they’ve had a downpour of shooting stars!" _________________________ "…Well, they’re not completely stupid. They were bound to notice something. Shooting stars down in Kent — I’ll bet that was Dedalus Diggle. He never had much sense." We've never had a chance to see his shooting star, but he seemed always a fun guy to me!
Quick reminder on Dumbledore's first appearance which was neglected in the movie: He was wearing long robes, a purple cloak that swept the ground, and high-heeled, buckled boots. Half-moon glasses.

I had forgotten how much Dumbledore liked lemon drop. He ate three when he was talking to McGonagall!!
“It’s lucky it’s dark. I haven’t blushed so much since Madam Pomfrey told me she liked my new earmuffs.”
😂😂😂
“I’ve come to bring Harry to his aunt and uncle. They’re the only family he has left now.”
I always thought Voldemort killed whoever had connection to the Potters. That's why Harry’s only family is the Dursleys.
Can you see how much better off he’ll be, growing up away from all that until he’s ready to take it?”
That’s exactly like Dumbledore ; keeping secrets from Harry until he's got the age that he could take it. This. The prophecy. Harry's last sacrificial. I never related the protection charm in the past. Because it didn't work out. Any house-elf could come in, anyone could send something dangerous for him by owl, the dementors could find him. Apparently the only thing this charm keeps away, is the dark wizards. Which is fair I guess. That's exactly what Dumbledore was after ; keeping Harry safe from the death eaters. Any of these dangers I mentioned could've happened in any wizard's house. Remember the Longbottoms? They're a good example of what kind of dangers were threatening Harry’s life.
And they’ve got this son — I saw him kicking his mother all the way up the street, screaming for sweets. Harry Potter come and live here!”
I don't know kids, so I'm a little confused. If Dudley's one year old, how could he kick his mom? Are you allowed to give the babys sweets?
Scars can come in handy. I have one myself above my left knee that is a perfect map of the London Underground. 😂😂😂
said Hagrid in a very muffled voice, “I’ll be takin’ Sirius his bike back. G’night, Professor McGonagall — Professor Dumbledore, sir.”
No I don't think you will.
