September 14, 2023 - Medium Ground-Finch (Geospiza fortis) Found primarily in scrub and the edges of forests on most of the Galapagos Islands, these birds in the tanager family are in the group of species known as Darwin’s finches. They eat seeds, fruits, and insects. During rainy El Niño years small seeds from grasses and other plants are more available, making finches with smaller bills more successful at finding food and more common in the population. In drier years when larger seeds become easier to find, larger-billed birds are more successful and the population’s average bill size tends to increase. Males build spherical nests from dry grass and other plant materials where females lay clutches of four eggs.

Really really enjoyed the demo! As a Korean, it's amazing to have a good WIP based on Korean culture. I actually had a question regarding Shan and Hae. Were these countries similar to the Three Kingdoms of Korea (Goguryeo/Silla/Baekje) in having essentially the same ethnicity/language and similar culture having come from a common ancestor (Gojoseon), or were they much more different with a definite gap like, say, Korea and Japan?
i’m really really glad you liked it!! for the shan and hae, they do have a common ancestor, although the two countries split a very long time ago and have diverged significantly in practices. the shan have heavily adapted their culture and practices around the mountains, while the hae remain an agriculture focused empire. the remaining traces of their culture that remain similar can most easily be seen in their written language and words

Heya! I was just wondering if Darwin's finches is gonna get another work or if it's abandoned? No pressure or anything just curious y'know
hey there, no worries! rest assured, i definitely haven’t abandoned darwin’s finches, it’s just on an unexpected hiatus 😂 i originally meant to keep chipping away at it but i’ve been preoccupied with a hermitcraft series here on tumblr and apparently i can only manage writing one thing at a time. but i adore that series and have so many plans for it, i wouldn’t dream of abandoning it.

I have discussed the probable origin of domestic pigeons at some, yet quite insufficient, length; because when I first kept pigeons and watched the several kinds, knowing well how true they bred, I felt fully as much difficulty in believing that they could ever have been descended from a common parent, as any naturalist could in coming to a similar conclusion in regard to the many species of finches, or other large groups of birds, in nature.
