I wonder if Takumi has any serious diseases? He’s been shown to faint easily since middle school, and it didn’t disappear as he grew to be less meek and timid. And the scene where he met the nurse suggested that rather than “just” being a fainting, it was something more serious?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the panels after the second one suggest that the heart issues were metaphorical for issues in love, though...)
Also, look at this panel! “Another sickness”...

Oh, by the way! To any nonogram fans out there, I uploaded one of my pixel sprite edits on nonograms . org! It’s currently waiting for moderator approval. I can’t link it yet, though... I’ll make another post once I do!
I had to change colours a little to make them differ more. Here’s a comparison, for the curious:
Tumblr media
(Left is the edit for the nonogram, right is the original version)
I hope you guys will like it, once it releases!
EDIT: Because Tumblr doesn’t like links, I included it in a reblog!

I like to think about... Takumi in wayyy too small spaces for a grown-ass man to realistically fit in.
Canon mostly showed us him as he was hiding in like... very crammed but otherwise reasonably big spaces, outside of that one cupboard (unless he curled a lot?). Which is funny! He sometimes practically teleports in there, but I'm thinking about spaces more like... shoe box sized. I think I wanna try to draw Misaki holding a box like that with just his head poking out... that'd be pretty funny!

I don’t think the ending of Killer Killer was meaning to say they had actually died together, like he was saying they would commit suicide for the rest of their lives was his way of saying he would live out the rest of his natural life by her side. Honestly the romance felt unnecessary.
I actually really liked the romance! It's one of the only DR stories that had a canon romantic relationship between major characters. It was teased since the beginning, so it didn't feel like it got there out of nowhere. I actually thought it'd go the "teasing" route where two characters grow close but never get anything canonized, that was a pleasant surprise.
Anyways, I prefer to take it at face value. Takumi was mentioning his love for murder since the beginning, he chose to kill Misaki because of that. The passion thing would also apply to himself, and, well, since he kills murderers, and he is a murderer, the suicide part is justified too. Plus, it really works with that trope of lovers or otherwise close people deciding that they wouldn't want to live without others.
I feel like it also adds to Misaki's characterization. She feels more... Not timid, but kinda soft in a way- but then rather than cowering around and trying to hide, she asks him to kill her- and even though the conflict was resolved, when he comes back she still is willing to leave the world with him. And since it's a lover *suicide* - that suggests that she took an active part in it.
An ending where they fake their deaths would feel pretty much against their personal ideals, and a bit too... escapist? In a way. I don't think it's nearly as symbolic as the ending where they both die.

I was originally thinking of Misaki and Takumi as adults in their twenties, but now that I think of it, it may not be the case.
As we all know, the mass-killing that changed Takumi’s life occured when he was in middle school. I thought there was no info on Misaki’s age during that time, but then I remember this panel. It shows us smaller Misaki, in a sailor-style uniform. Japanese elementary schools rarely have uniforms, so we can safely assume she was in middle school, too. She appears a bit short here, but it’s not like she’s super tall even when we see her working for SCI.
Tumblr media
So we can probably safely assume they’d be around 2-3 years apart MAX from each other.
But here’s the thing. Misaki was way smaller than in main story, more younger. So it was safe to assume that it was *years* ago, right...?
Well... No. Mukuro hasn’t changed at all since then.
Tumblr media
She has the same proportions as when we see her in DR3.
And also, compare MiddleSchool!Takumi and SCI!Takumi:
Tumblr media
The difference is minimal, and could be just the matter of the height of heel or scale in the images or something.
And also! Look at this:
Tumblr media
The killing was set right after Mukuro came to Japan to start Hope’s Peak. So it occurred roughly when DR3 Despair Arc did. Hope’s Peak only seems to recruit students who were already highschoolers for a bit - the emblems present on most characters’ outfits are representative of their previous *highs schools*.
Most assumptions about the length of the despair era seem to give it less than 3 years, from what I’ve seen. So that’d mean that, if Junko never succeeded... Takumi and Misaki would probably be high schoolers!
And now I wonder, if under more normal circumstances Takumi’d end up as an Ultimate - all of his killings are called “Super” (at least in the fantranslation I read). They couldn’t be Super High School Level - there’s a chance he never went to any high school, and that title seems to be given by Hope’s Peak specifically - but they’re still... Y’know. He’s also obviously abnormally good at what he’s doing... Hmm...

Eh, if Mukuro ends up actually alive, I can see a second season. I saw a post saying she was Misaki. That could work.
I don’t really like that theory... I mean, I haven’t heard a lot about it before, but I don’t even know what elements I should be looking at. Ryoko’s existence (I checked the wiki for some details congratulate me)? Mukuro’s “breakout”? The only shared point between Mukuro and Misaki is how they both ended up... Ugh, I had a nice wording for that a moment back but I can’t recall it now. How their existences affected Takumi’s feelings?
Plus, it really felt like Killer Killer was meant to be the story of specifically the two guys who decided to erase murderers and a girl who got involved. All three of them are dead now, though, so there’s nowhere to go. The other “season” could still be a thing (though as I said - I don’t really like the concept of Mukuro being still alive), but unless it invented a few more guys who become Killer Killers*, I wouldn’t want to call that Killer Killer again.
*I wouldn’t want that. The way Takumi and Shuji were contrasted was pretty balanced already.

I’m actually curious - what’d happen if Misaki died between Takumi’s “death” and the point where she canonically does?
Let’s say that it was some sort of accident, like a car one, rather than a murder, so Takumi’s weird murder sense wouldn’t get set off, +it’s way more rapid and unpreventable, in a way.
My first thought is that he’d continue with his plan to commit a suicide, but now more... bitterly? But I wonder if he’d prefer to continue on, instead.
Would a suicide like that count in his ideals as a “passionate killing”? He decided to murder Misaki because of his affection towards her, and I presume that the suicide was some sort of... self-punishment? I don’t think he considers his killings in the categories of morality, really. It could also be a sign of “I don’t want to live in this world without you” sorta thing... Would it still work if his promise was broken?
And if he chose to live on, how would Misaki’s unintended death affect him? I feel like it’d change the way he approaches romance and love in general, but then, I don’t know if he’d grow more avoidant of it or the opposite. Would he continue as the Killer Killer, too?
Argh, I can’t tell for sure!
