Conflicted: Final Part
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Female!Reader
Word Count: ~2.3k
Summary: It’s hard convincing people what you can see without the physical proof to back it up. You immediately know who the unsub is, but you have to wait for everyone to catch up to you. How can you make them see what you see?
Warnings: canon violence, canon language, canon talk of death, methods of kill
Author’s Note: I do not own anything from Criminal Minds. All credit goes to their respective owners. If there are any warnings that exceed the normal death/kills from the show, I will list them. If you’ve seen the show, then it’s the same level of angst unless otherwise stated

"State your name."
"Adam Jackson."
"What color are your eyes?"
"Green."
"Where were you the night Carl Cade was killed?"
"At work."
"Who is the current president of the United States?"
"Barack Obama."
"Did you murder Dan Keller?"
"No."
"Did you murder William Browder?"
"No."
"What is thirty-two minus nineteen?"
This is where it gets interesting. Something clicks in Adam's mind. It's only for a split second, but you see the subtle change in his attitude. He tries to hide it, which is why it goes unnoticed by Spencer.
"I don't know."
"Would you kill for Julie?"
"No."
"You lied about the altercation with William. Is there anything else you've lied about?"
"No."
"Did you murder Dan Keller?"
"No."
"What time did you leave work the night William was killed?"
"I don't remember," Adam stutters.
"Have you ever had a sexual relationship with Julie?"
"No."
"Did you murder Carl Cade?"
"No."
"Using the formula y equals mx plus b, what does b represent?"
"I don't know."
"Did you murder Carl Cade?"
"No."
"Did you murder William Browder?"
"No."
"Would you kill for Julie?"
"No."
This is getting nowhere. You and Spencer take a break and give someone else a try with the questioning until almost two hours have passed. Julie and Adam are free to go since there is no hard proof that either of them was involved with the murders. While they are signing out at the front, your team is watching the videos play back not far from them. You can still see Adam from where you are, and your eyes haven't left his since he got to the desk.
Spencer plays back the video again, paying close attention to Adam.
"What are you looking at?" JJ asks.
"I'm not sure."
"Well, they both passed. With flying colors, I should say."
"The only spike I got on Adam was from a control question regarding geometric equations, but I think I just flustered him. Either way, we got nothing."
Spencer looks at Adam who is staring at you and him. There is something in his eyes that tells you Adam is no longer in the building. He has that look about him that screams dominance, but he and Julie are already out the door before you can question it. Spencer sees the same thing you did, and he pulls up the security footage from when Adam tackled William into the pool.
"So, where are we now?" Derek asks.
"Honestly? Nowhere. We just watched our two most viable suspects walk out the door."
"If Adam isn't our unsub, he has all the makings to become one someday."
"Tell me the question that he spiked under in the polygraph," Spencer says. "It was a geometric equation, right?"
"Reid, I really think he was just intimidated. He tried and got it wrong, but he wasn't supposed to know the answer anyway."
"What if he lied? What if he knew the answer but intentionally got it wrong?"
"Why would he do that?" JJ asks.
"Because he realized that he wouldn't know the answer."
"You're losing me, kid."
"Adam said he wasn't getting any rest. He takes midday naps because he's always exhausted. He has a history of blackouts, reclusive behavior, and prolonged repeated abuse suffered at the hands of a dominant male who transferred abuse from his female spouse to his prepubescent child. What if our unsub couple isn't a couple at all? I think Y/N is right. He has another personality in his head."
All eyes are on you and all you can do is shrug.
"You had to come to that conclusion on your own. You say we're a team but right now doesn't feel like it. Excuse me."
You leave the group to grab some air outside. Everyone feels bad for not listening to you but it's hard with this job since they need proof and facts, not intuition even if they believe you or not.
"We've seen this before."
"Check this out. The first intervention is timid and apprehensive, right? Then, he gets knocked down. There's a moment of calm, and then his entire body language changes. I saw this exact same transformation when Adam left the station. Only it wasn't rage, it was arrogance. Like the alter ego wanted me to know."
"Why?" Hotch asks.
"I don't know. Maybe for power or control. All I know is the person that stared me down over there was not Adam. He's not assertive like that. He doesn't make eye contact."
"You think the stress of the interrogation blurred the line between Adam and his alter personality?" Emily asks.
"I think the unsub surfaced for just a moment. It knew the answer to the question, realized Adam wouldn't, and lied. Y/N was right. We profiled the duo accurately, only the dominant personality is inside of Adam."
"Adam has no idea he killed all those people."
"You could argue that Adam didn't kill those people. A separate person inside of him did. It's what Y/N was trying to tell us this entire time."
"Everyone, go over to the Hudson Street Hotel. I'll be right back."
Hotch leaves and finds you outside sitting on the bench just staring at the street. He takes a seat next to you, and you look at him with a sigh.
"I feel like we always seem to have these conversations."
"I'm sorry we didn't believe you."
"It's not that. You guys will never understand what I see on a daily basis. You'll never truly understand how energies and spirits work, and I get that. I am here today because I want to help take down the bad guys and save as many people as I can. You allowed me onto this team for what I can bring to it. I am grateful for the opportunity you have given me.
"I've spent my whole life relying on my gift and using what I see to my advantage. I never had to gather hard evidence because I never needed to. Just as much as you're learning from me, I'm learning from you. I don't know what it's like to see a crime scene and to only know what's physically in front of me. I've never had to piece the puzzle together because I see it whole.
"I know what the law is. I know a judge needs evidence and proof to put someone away. Sometimes I forget that. So, you had to come to that conclusion about Adam on your own. I can give my input but I needed everyone on the same page for us to move forward as a team. You're doing a good job, Hotch. I'm sorry for what I said. We are a team."
"Let's call this a learning experience for us both, yeah?"
"I promise to do better and to gather all the evidence before coming to you."
"No, still come to me. I actually enjoy seeing your view on things."
With that out of the way, you get ready with the rest of the team to head over to the hotel. There are police sirens and ambulances there when you arrive, and you rush to the back to see what the commotion is. Julie is lying on the ground covered in blood because she was pushed off the roof. You look up and see Adam on the roof with an evil look in his eyes. Though, when he mists away, you know he's not actually up there.
"Julie, can you hear me?" Hotch asks carefully.
"Adam..."
"Help is right outside. I need you not to move."
"It wasn't him... strange.
"Julie, did he say where he was going?"
"He called himself Amanda."
"That's his other personality," you say to Hotch.
"Where would he go?"
"Not he, she. Amanda panicked. She knew we would connect this to her."
"Okay, so she's feeling the pressure. She obviously knows she's running out of time. Where would she go?"
"She's gonna go after the man these victims represent."
Amanda is going back to Mark Harrison's house to finally deal with the root of all hers and Adam's problems. He is the reason why Amanda was created in the first place. Penelope sends over the address for Mark, and half of you head over there immediately. The other half stay with Julie in case Adam comes back for her. When you get to Marks' house, you see him bound and gagged to a chair with a bag over his head. Adam is standing next to him with a knife in his hands, but it's not Adam.
It's Amanda.
"Amanda put the knife down."
"Stand back or I'll kill him," Adam says in a feminine voice.
"You do not want to do that."
"You don't know what he did!"
"When Adam's mother died, his stepfather needed a new outlet for his aggression. He put Adam in dresses, beat him, and touched him. Adam was too weak to go through all of that alone. He was just a little boy. He needed me to protect him. I could take it. I was stronger than he was. He deserves to die," Amanda says angrily.
"Amanda, that is not for you to decide. I swear to God, if you put him down and you come with me, I will get you and Adam the help that you guys need."
"Adam will be sentenced for what I've done. No, I can't let that happen."
Amanda lets Mark go and puts the knife to her throat instead. She'll kill Adam rather than watch him go to prison.
"If you kill yourself, you kill Adam. I don't see how that's protecting him. Do you know what I know? I know that all you want to do in this world Is protect Adam."
"It's all I've ever done."
"Then why don't you and I help him together?"
"You can't help him. I'm the only one. I know what I have to do. I will keep him safe forever."
Amanda drops the knife so that Derek can move in to arrest her, but the look in her eyes suggests that she is never letting Adam out of her mind. He will be locked away in his own mind for however long Amanda decides. Spencer rushes over and tries to find the shred of Adam left, but he's gone and you don't think he's coming back.
"Reid, he's gone," you sigh.
Spencer is taking this harder than you thought he would, and you don't know why. While everyone else is focused on arresting Adam and trying to get Amanda to release him, you approach Spencer who is off to the side by himself.
"Hey, what's going on in that big brain of yours?"
"We've taken the victim into custody and let the abuser go free. I don't really see that as much of a win."
"A lot of lives are gonna be saved now that Amanda's off the street. You know that."
"I should have listened to you. I should have known."
"You needed to come to the conclusion on your own, but this is more than just Adam. What else is going on?"
"Tobias Hankel."
"Tobias drugged and tortured you for two days. He almost killed you."
"No, he didn't. The personality of his father did those things to me. The real Tobias saved my life. He brought me back from the dead. I know that Adam is still locked inside his own head somewhere."
"Baby, people with DID are never black-and-white cases. There's always going to be a 'good' personality or someone who is innocent in all of this. It sucks but sometimes, we can't save everyone. Imagine a world if we could."
"Yeah, I guess," he sighs.
"Look, we're in Corpus Christi. The case is over with. My reunion is right around the corner. If you're up for it, would you be my date?"
"I think I can do that," he smiles.
The rest of the team flies out of Corpus Christi that night so they can get home faster, but you and Spencer stay to enjoy a night of memories and old friends. You'll fly back after the reunion and maybe spend the night on the beach or something; something romantic with Spencer before returning to your life.
The reunion is being held at a banquet hall where half your class is already there. Spencer heads straight for the bathroom while you look around for some familiar faces. Sitting by himself in the back is the kid who was being beaten by his dad. He hated you for accidentally telling everyone this even though you never meant to. People were eavesdropping; how is that your fault?
Still, you walk over to him in hopes he's not still mad at you over what happened thirteen years ago.
"Sean?"
"Y/N?"
"I didn't think you'd remember me, honestly."
"How could I forget the woman who saw what no one else did?"
"So, I'm guessing you're not mad at me anymore?"
"Not at all. How have you been? What do you do?"
"I've been good. I'm in the FBI, actually. We just got done with a case just in time for this reunion," you chuckle. "What about you? Are you here with anyone?"
"I'm here by myself. I actually have my own graphic design business." He hands you his business card with a smile. "I do a lot of designs for bands and websites and other things."
"That's amazing."
"Are you here with anyone?"
"My boyfriend is in the bathroom. He told me I should come to this. I wasn't even going to go. To be honest, my time at that school wasn't the best as you know."
"About that, I just want to say I'm sorry. You're the only one who ever saw there was something wrong. Because of you, I finally stood up to my dad and left. I never looked back."
"I'm happy for you. If you're ever in the Quantico area of Virginia, I'd love to take you out and catch up."
"Yeah, that sounds awesome," he chuckles.
"There you are." Spencer comes back from the bathroom. "This place is a maze."
"Sean, meet my boyfriend, Spencer. Spencer, this is Sean, one of my classmates."
"You're very lucky, man."
"I know," Spencer smiles and pulls you closer to him.
Spencer was right, this is giving you closure you never knew you needed. High school was such a long time ago that you don't need to ever worry about what anyone else is doing. You have an amazing boyfriend, a super cool job, and a life you wouldn't trade for anything.
"Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win." - Stephen King

Chapter 2 - The Paladin [Chapter 1 - The General]
Tumblr media
POV: The Armored man
Paladin Danse stares dumbly at the unmoving body.
The blow certainly was not enough to kill her, but it was more violence than his reconnaissance mission required. The woman's arm was bent poorly, more than broken. Even with his untrained eye, he knew the protruding bone needed a higher standard of care than what a wasteland ‘doctor’ could provide. The medic on the Prydwen, Knight-Captain Cade, would be amply prepared to effectively heal her arm. It wasn’t standard practice to bring advisories onboard, but after causing such an injury….It would be unconscionable to leave the woman here.
He bends down stiffly, scooping his arm gently under her head and waist. She was so thin…no wonder she folded like washi paper. Lifting her was akin to picking up a bunch of grapes.
“Where are you taking Nora?” A meek voice asked. Danse looked up to see a quite small child step out of the shed. Six more little, frightened faces watched from the edge of the shed.
Danse wasn’t great with kids, he rarely saw any. But he could at least look them in the eye. He gently lowered the woman’s limp body back to ground, stained with her blood. The Paladin removed his helmet, revealing tired brown eyes and scraggly 5 o’clock shadow.  “The General is hurt. I’m taking her to the Prydwen for Medical Attention,” his voice flat and robotic from years in the service.
“...You hurt her.” The brave girl's voice shook, the other six watched him nervously.
“I-I know.” An unexpected pang of guilt seized in his chest. “What were you doing with the General?”
“The General?” The child asked, staring at the motionless body. “You mean Nora?”
“This is the General of the Minutemen.” He gestures to the body. “What were you doing here?”
“Nora doesn't like it when adults call her General. Only strangers call her that. And Nora told us not to talk to strangers.” The girl shrunk nervously.
A younger child, a little girl perhaps based on the dirty pale rose dress she wore stepped out of the shed. “She was taking us to Sanctuary, to meet our new Mummies and Daddies! Some Mommies and Daddies lost their babies, like Nora did. She says there are playgrounds, and farms, and um…” The girl pauses, searching for the word.
“And a rest-aur-aunt!” A young boy struggled to pronounce the unfamiliar word. “It’s a place where food is made for all families. Everybody gets to eat! And it’s super tasty.”
Danse looked down at the body beneath him. The arm he had broken. The blood from her head soaking into dry soil around her. A haunting, bloody halo. It was then he understood why she wasn’t cooperating with his questioning. 'Nora' was drawing him away from the shed, protecting the children she was trying to save after losing her own. She didn’t stand a chance. She wore her vault suit and not much else. In her place, he wasn’t sure he could have shown the same bravery to stand up to heavily armored man and a vertibird crew.
Danse sighs heavily and fastens his helmet back on. He radios in a brief report and instruction to the pilot and turns his attention back to children who were beginning to gather outside of the shed to stare with a mix of curiosity and fear.
Scribe Haylen clambered out of the vertibird with an armful of adult ear protection. Vertibirds weren’t commonly used to bus about children. Today, they’d have to make due.
“Human children,” Danse cringed at himself briefly. “Haylen will provide you each with ear protection. The Brotherhood of Steel will complete your journey to Sanctuary.”
“But how will you do that? It’s almost night time.” A child asked.
“We’re going to fly you there!” Haylen chimed, pointed at the vertibird behind her.
“You mean we get to ride in one of those things!” The little girl exclaimed.
“You bet, now put these on!” Scribe Haylen leaned down, stretching the adult ear protection over the young boy's ears.
Paladin Danse observed his loyal scribe struggle and succeed in preparing the children for their first Vertibird ride. He took a mental note to record her actions for a future commendation. His armor clambered loudly as he walked back to the General's limp body. Danse slid his arm under Nora’s head and waist. Her head rolled back against his steel forearm the moment she was lifted off the ground.
“Danse! Be careful!” Haylen scolded, boosting the last of the children onto the Vertibird.
“Right, right.” Danse more carefully supported her head and mindfully watched her limbs swing with his every step. "Scribe, remain with the children in the passenger area. I'll take the General to sit up front with the pilot."  Better to avoid further traumatizing the children with the damaged body. He also hoped to avoid any further questions by the settlers in Sanctuary. Haylen can drop off the children with some excuse along the lines of Brotherhood support in the Commonwealth. Then, we'll return to the Prydwen. Elder Maxson will need an update on the situation. Now that was a conversation he was already dreading...

Elsa Salazar Cade
I am rather surprised to fined that my wikipedia entry about me is gone. As a Mexican American who together with my husband discovered the first example of a predator locating it’s prey by the prey item’s sexual signal. My name was included in a major paper on crickets because I did a lot of the actual research, too. My work with integrating handicapped kids into the general science classroom was brought to the attention to the National Science Teacher Association and I was a finalist for teacher of the year 1995. That was ground breaking work!   During the Haitian crisis, my work fundraising for ShelterBox went viral and “broke the internet” and hammered the ShelterBox website so much with money somebody here “had to out me” to find out who TexMex was.  In 2012, the State of New York honored me by choosing me as part of the Hispanic Americans exhibit at the Hall of Governors for my work as an educator. My illustrations are in a major book on insect physiology. I went on five trips to Africa to collect insects for a survey of African Orthoperta.
Wikipedia makes it clear that they are not responsible for anything because it is created by regular people.  I wonder if I was removed because of my politics and BECAUSE I am a Mexican American. I used to be linked to pages with list of notable Mexican Americans. During Hispanic month, teacher could assign kids to use that list to study Hispanic Americans and our accomplishments.
I am not bragging about me. I am just very suspicious that “not white people’ are being erased. Discloser: I wrote my husband’s wikipedia and Dan Otte’s wikipedia and mine a long time ago.
My page was fine for many many years and now it’s gone.  Education is low importance, Mexican Americans are low importance. Insects are low importance. It’s right there in the talk pages.  They just stuck me into William H. Cade’s page.
Looks like an attack on me because why was I removed? Something stinks. Hispanic kids now have one less person to research on. Someone who is a woman of color in with life in STEM and with impact in education. And before I was deleted I got several emails from strangers claiming to be from Wikipedia saying they could fix it for me if I emailed them back. I was thinking they needed me to pay them to keep my page up.  What other people of color are being erased because they won’t pay someone to keep it up?  That really stinks.

Ser parte de los Wreckers
Wreckers x human!reader (platonico)
Versión bot!reader
Tumblr media
🔨Obviamente te van a enseñar a destruir.
. .o golpes, pero también terminan en risas.
🔨Destruir, construir, destruir, construir.

Self-Sharpened Fangs: The Point
Masterlist
Note: The character Cade that's been referenced in a few of the other part has been renamed to Isaac. Cade was too close to the name Kai/dan (the name of a character from the Ma/ss Effect games), and that kept messing me so I changed the name.

Slam. Emilian startled awake, and even before he was awake enough to understand what the sound had been, he scrambled back, away from the door, into the corner of the room.
Isaac stood in front of the closed door, his expression clearly one of anger. Em shivered. He tried to press himself further into the corner to escape the fury in the vampire's eyes.
"Come here."
Em didn't want to be anywhere near Isaac. Not when he'd entered the room already furious. And he didn't want to do as he was told like he was some pet, though that desire was overpowered by fear more often than not, these days. The fear of what Isaac would do if he didn't obey usually overpowered both his fear of the vampire's rage and whatever shreds of defiance he still had left. It would have done so now, except before Em managed to move his frozen muscles, Isaac stalked towards him and yanked him to his feet and towards the center of the room by the front of his shirt. He let out a yelp he would once have been embarrassed by.
He opened his mouth to beg, to apologize. He hated himself for it, but appeasing his captor mattered more than his pride. He'd already made everything worse by not obeying fast enough for the vampire. He could have lived with the humiliation, but Isaac didn't give him the chance, clamping a cool hand over his mouth.
"You think," Isaac hissed, "you can defy me?"
You barely gave me time to obey, you fucking asshole. I would have done it, Em thought bitterly. He didn't mean for it to show on his face, but it must have. Isaac backhanded him, sending him sprawling across the floor from the force of the blow, pain blooming across the right side of his face. He slowly pushed himself up to his knees, blinking as he looked up at Isaac. His eyes weren't focusing, he could see Isaac twice. The right side of his face throbbed as he whimpered. He pressed a hand over his right eye, finding he could see normally from just his left eye. He took that as a good sign. He could at least see from one of his eyes.
"Now, be a good little human, and hold still," Isaac spoke in clipped words that dripped with anger.
"Go fuck yourself," Em blurted out, still too dazed from the blow to think before he said the words. He regretted it immediately as he watched Isaac's expression shift. He tried to move away, but the vampire was quicker, holding him in place with a tight grip on the hair at the side of his head. "Please, I didn't mean it, I'm--"
"You didn't mean it?" Isaac practically growled. It was the wrong thing to say, and Em should have known it would be.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, please don't, I'm sorry," Em desperately tried to think of something, anything he could say to stop what he knew was coming. He didn't bother trying to hold back the tears.
"Sorry's not good enough." Something snapped as Isaac's fist struck Em's chest. He let out a breathy grunt as the blow forced all the air out of his lungs. He would have collapsed to the floor, but Isaac's fist in his hair kept him upright, if only barely. The pain of his hair tugging on his scalp was almost nothing compared to his face and his ribs. He opened his mouth to beg again.
Isaac clamped a hand over Em's mouth, thumb digging into his bruised cheek right under his eye. He whimpered into the vampire's hand, and distantly wondered if the bone the thumb pressed against was broken, or if the bruise was just that bad. His eyes were wide with fear and brimming with tears. He watched as Isaac smiled. He was enjoying this. Em realized he was trembling, and not just from fear. His face burned, his eyes stuck on the smile on the vampire's face.
How dare that monster enjoy this. He was going to obey, be good, just like he wanted. He'd apologized for being too slow, even though it was Isaac's own damn fault for barging in when he was still asleep. And the monster was going to hurt him for it anyway? What was the point, then, if it didn't change a single thing?
Em twisted his head, just enough to loosen the grip of the hand over his mouth. He bit down hard on the hand, the metallic taste of blood flooding his mouth. Warm satisfaction bloomed in his chest, and he would have grinned if he could have. He'd made Isaac bleed, for once. Some part of him was surprised the blood tasted no different from his own. He wished he wasn't familiar enough with the taste of his own blood to know that. Isaac tried to pull the hand away, to shake him off. He bit down harder. Isaac struck his chest again, where he had before, and Em let go with a choked scream. He doubled over, arms wrapped around himself, groaning. Isaac kicked him in the stomach hard enough to send him sliding across the flood.
Em didn't try to get up or scramble away. There was no point. There was nowhere to go. He curled up on the floor and tried to shield himself with his arms and legs as best he could, and hoped Isaac would be done soon. Isaac's first kick hit his shoulder. The next his shin. Another blow hit his wrist, the one that always hurt, even months after it had healed from the break. He cried out. Isaac kept going.
Em wasn't sure how long it took, or how many times Isaac kicked him. At some point, he stopped crying out or yelping or trying to beg for Isaac to stop, too focused on just breathing to do more than gasp. When the vampire stopped, the only sound in the room was Em's fast, shallow breaths punctuated by occasional coughing. He opened his eyes to see blood. Blood he'd coughed up. Terrified, he swallowed the blood still in his mouth, praying the blood was just from when he bit Isaac. He coughed again, small droplets of blood spattering onto his forearm.
Isaac dragged Em upright, kneeling on the floor in front of the crouched vampire. The vampire muttered something, his expression irritated as his eyes flitted across Em. Em didn't need to hear whatever the vampire had said to know what to do. He tilted his head to the side and tried his best not to flinch as Isaac sank his fangs into his neck. Please let this be over. Just drink and leave me be.
He squeezed his eyes shut and tried to pretend he was anywhere else as he felt the sharp pain of fangs sinking into his neck. He tried to picture the picnic at the lake, just a few days before he'd been taken. The feeling of the sun on his face. His best friend's smile, the sound of their laughter. The song they'd played on the guitar. Anything other than this.
Em had done this enough times to know something was wrong when Isaac kept drinking, even after he'd taken the normal amount of blood. He still didn't fight it, at first, frozen in place. Maybe it was just part of the punishment. Maybe Isaac was just that hungry. He didn't want Isaac to hurt him more, he already hurt so much, he just wanted it to be over.
When Isaac had taken almost twice the normal amount, Em was terrified. This is it. He's going to kill me. He's going to drain me dry and dump my body somewhere where no one who ever cared about me will find it. Em sobbed. He tried to pull away, the movement sending stabs of pain into his neck as he tugged against Isaac's fangs. Isaac's fingers dug harder into his shoulder, so hard he was sure they would leave bruises there.
Em tried to shout for Adrian, but the best he managed was a short, high-pitched whimper.
No. I can't die like this. He tried to pull away again. He couldn't. He hit Isaac on the chest several times, though Isaac being so close made the blows even weaker than they would have been otherwise. Not that he was strong enough to actually hurt Isaac even under normal circumstances. He tried to pry Isaac off his neck. He scratched at the vampire's neck, the side of his face. He desperately tried to shove Isaac off. It was all so useless that Isaac didn't even bother grabbing his arms to restrain them.
Eventually, he was too dizzy and tired and weak to continue his futile struggling, the edges of his vision turning black.
Please. I don't want to die.
---
I meant to post this yesterday but I couldn't think of a title I didn't hate.
Also, given where this is in the timeline, Em obviously doesn't actually die.

Friendship is rare, very rare, hence its precious and striking aspect. We come to the end of our lives and we try to count those who we consider to be true friends, those whose loyalty has been unfailing, those who have loved you as you are, without judging you or trying to to change. It is in hardships, difficult and sometimes decisive moments, that friendship is revealed and consolidated, or is absent and falls into oblivion. Friendship is what makes it possible to disarm cruelty and confront evil. It may have existed, sincere and strong, then suddenly break, annihilate because it has failed in one of its fundamental principles: fidelity; that is to say constancy in trust, this presence that must never be lacking. As Cicero writes it is when fortune varies that the invariable friend is sure to show itself. Treason is failing in the faith given to someone; it is a form of abandonment sometimes coupled with a desire to harm or an active or passive participation in a malicious operation. We act like someone to whom we owe loyalty, often out of self-interest or jealousy, revenge, pettiness. All these notions are not only foreign to friendship, but are its absolute negation

Conflicted: Part Two
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Female!Reader
Word Count: ~2.3k
Summary: It’s hard convincing people what you can see without the physical proof to back it up. You immediately know who the unsub is, but you have to wait for everyone to catch up to you. How can you make them see what you see?
Warnings: canon violence, canon language, canon talk of death, methods of kill
Author’s Note: I do not own anything from Criminal Minds. All credit goes to their respective owners. If there are any warnings that exceed the normal death/kills from the show, I will list them. If you’ve seen the show, then it’s the same level of angst unless otherwise stated

"Listen, Adam is our unsub." Before they have a chance to question you, you continue talking. "When I walked into that hotel room, I saw someone with DID. One energy stemming from the original tells me that there is another personality attached to that person. Adam has the same energy signature as that in the room. Derek, I'm telling you, there are no two people who have the same color energy. They're all different, and Adam matches it exactly."
"As much as I believe you, and you know I do, there isn't evidence against him to bring him in."
"We can hold someone for forty-eight hours without cause."
"Bring it up to Hotch."
"Spencer," you sigh and look at your boyfriend.
"That's the thing about this job, Y/N. It needs facts and hard proof to convict someone. I believe you, you know that I do, but a court won't. PD won't. You know this. The most we can do is watch Adam and see what he does next. Maybe we can catch him in the act."
"You're saying we have to wait for someone to die to bring him in?"
"As Derek said, bring it up to Hotch."
As much as Derek and Spencer say they're on your side, they'll never truly understand what you can do because they can't experience it for themselves. They'll never be on your side one hundred percent because if they were, they'd have arrested Adam. You just hope that Hotch is more understandable than they are.
He, Emily, and JJ are looking into the victims to see if there is a connection, but they can't find any. None of the victims were gay, but Dan's girlfriend described him as being overtly sexual towards women. It caused quite a few problems in their relationship, and his friend says they were out partying prior to his death. Apparently, they overlooked the fact that he had a girlfriend.
If Dan was killed by Adam, then he must have had a partner to bring him in. Dan wouldn't have gone with another man back to the room. Both victims were big guys yet there was no signs of a struggle, so it only makes sense that Adam had a partner in all this.
A female partner.
She would seduce the men into going back to the hotel room, tied him up to have a good time, and then Adam came in to finish the job. It would explain the position and the rape. Adam treats the victims the way they treat women. It's going to be hard to get Hotch to be fully on your side, but you think you have a compelling reason why you think Adam should be taken in.
However, he murdered another man before you could even talk to Hotch about him. This time, it's at a different hotel whereas the previous two happened in the same one. It could be someone new doing it, but as soon as you walk into the room, you see Adam's energy all over the place. He's standing in the middle of the room just looking at you. This time, you can see all of him instead of only seeing his eyes like what you saw before. Maybe it's because you know Adam is the unsub or he's opening himself up more to you, but you're able to connect with him better.
"Your unsubs have changed hotels," Detective Reese Evans says.
"What can you tell us?"
"The victim's name is Carl Cade, another spring breaker. Last night, his friends saw him leave a party with a brunette in a green dress. Both had been drinking for most of the day, and he only caught a glimpse of the girl before they left the party. He found the body posed just like the others."
Dan was killed last night and Carl was killed very recently. If you had to guess, you'd put Carl's death an hour or so after leaving Hudson Street Hotel... After you'd just got done talking to Adam.
"It sounds like our theory about the partners was right," Spencer says. "A woman lures the victim back, she offers up a little kink, and then ties him up. Only this time the unsubs ventured outside of their comfort zone. They changed hotels."
"What is he doing? Getting bolder or smarter?"
"Well, the local police are on alert and the FBI is here. They probably changed their pattern to avoid getting caught."
"Or because they saw us at the other hotel. We need to go back to Hudson Street," Rossi suggests.
"Look, we need to bring Adam in. He's the one who's doing this," you say.
No one responds to that.
If no one is going to take your word on this, then you have to think like they are. According to them, there are two unsubs. One of them is luring men into hotel rooms and tying them up, and the other is raping and murdering them. One of the unsubs is either a guest at the Hudson Street Hotel or possibly an employee there.
There are hundreds of college students there on Spring Break that migrate from place to place over the course of the week. You can't be sure that the killer is still on site, but you know that he is.
According to Hotch, the unsubs are a dominant/submissive team, man and woman, in their twenties. The male is heterosexual, and submissive in his everyday life with everyone except his partner. To her, he becomes dominant. The female unsub could be socially awkward, of average intelligence, and emotionally unstable. They're looking for women who are reclusive, have a problem with authority, and can't interact with dominant personalities.
This form of male rape is about power and dominance, not about sexual orientation. So, victimology is key. This team targets alpha personality males who think that women are their right. Add drugs or alcohol to the equation, and they're dealing with eager victims. Even with the mention of rape, an alpha personality fueled by intoxication believes that he can control the situation and eventually gain the upper hand.
Hotch wants everyone to blanket the beach with fliers, talk to other hotels and bartenders, and interview college students who aren't high on drugs or alcohol. Spring Break ends in two days, so you have until then to catch whoever is doing this, even though you know who it is.
"Hotch, can I talk to you?" you ask when you finally have time to talk.
"What's up?"
"Listen, I know who did this. It's Adam Jackson from the Husdon Street Hotel. His energy matches to the energies at both crime scenes we've seen so far. Exactly matches. There are no two people who have the same energy. I think we should bring Adam in. We can hold him for forty-eight hours without cause."
"Do you have evidence against him?"
"Well, no, but--"
"Get some evidence, and then we'll talk. I'm not going to put someone in jail for no reason, even if we can."
If you're going to prove to everyone that Adam is the unsub, you have to work extra hard. Penelope is working on a suspect list right now, and you've asked her to include Adam. She sends over a video not long after you talk to her that shows Adam attacking the first victim on the security cameras.
Penelope had to look at the days leading up to the murders instead of the day of and saw the video of Adam attacking William. He tried to talk to Madison Cooke, an employee at the hotel, even though she isn't interested in him. Adam steps in and William pushes him to the ground. Adam gets up and tackles William into the pool.
Adam told you that he never met the victims, which means he lied. Or, the other personality inside his head came out so Adam wouldn't know about what happened.
Either way, Adam needs to be brought in.
"Is this enough evidence for you?" you ask Derek and walk away.
Rossi talks to Madison to get the full story while you, Derek, and Spencer head to the roof to find Adam and bring him in.
Madison knows a lot about Adam but she isn't too fond of him. His life reads like a "how to make an unsub" manual. He was born in Corpus Christi to his biological mother, Rosemary Jackson. She's been in and out of hospitals ever since she got into a relationship with Adam's stepfather, Mike Harrison, with broken arms and ribs and even exhaustion.
That's the polite way of saying Adam's dad wasn't too nice to his wife. When she died, Adam was left in his care since Adam's biological father was never known. Then, Adam was the one who was in and out of hospitals. He was eventually foster-homed in Dallas until he was granted emancipation at the age of sixteen.
You bet if you could see Mike now, he would closely resemble Adam's victims.
Adam is caught and brought back to the police station even though he has no clue what is going on. He's not going to know what is going on because his other personality has been taking control whenever Adam killed. Adam is placed in an interrogation room and instead of being confident, he's sulking with his head hung low.
"He doesn't really look like the dominant partner type, does he?" Emily asks.
"No."
"He's our guy. I promise," you say. "Forget what I can do for a moment. He grows up with an abusive stepfather and somehow manages to escape. Suddenly, he finds himself back in the exact same area where his abuser lives. He's surrounded by nothing but a bunch of alpha males that mirror that type of behavior, so he snaps."
"Did he have a problem with you as an authority figure when you interviewed him?" Hotch asks Derek.
"He backed away as if he was a little skittish."
"What about with Reid?"
"Reid was a little less imposing and he opened up about his life."
"Let's have Reid in there talking to him."
"Adam has another personality in his head. I can see it as clear as day. He committed this crime but he doesn't know it. Adam doesn't realize what this other personality is doing. Spencer can question him all he wants, but he's not going to get anything out of him because Adam doesn't know."
Still, Spencer walks in and questions Adam while you watch on the outside with everyone else.
"Where's Julie?" Adam asks.
"We're trying to find her. You're in a lot of trouble, Adam. Do you know that?"
"The only thing that I did wrong was leave work without telling my boss. She's gonna freak. I need to talk to Julie."
"Why don't you tell me about the fight you had with the first victim?"
"I don't remember."
"You don't remember? Adam, I really want to help you out but you're gonna have to do a lot better than that."
"Please! I just need to talk to Julie!"
"Hotch," JJ says and walks into the room. "I just got off with Garcia. Adam Jackson doesn't just work at the hotel. He lives there, too. When Adam was kicked out of school for bad grades, drug possession, and petty theft, he started staying at the hotel. Julie pays his bills. She's bailed him out of jail twice in the past four years."
"She's also the one that told Madison to cover up the fact that Adam had a fight with the first victim," Rossi says.
"What's the connection between Julie and Adam?"
"When Julie was in college, she volunteered at the foster care facility Adam used to reside in. She befriended him and became the surrogate for his absent mother. Now, she's his boss. He owes her everything."
"Adam's not the submissive, Julie is." You slap your hand to your head lightly in frustration. They can try all they want, but they'll never understand. "I need you to track any movement on Julie such as a cell phone, credit card, and ATM withdrawals. I need her last known location."
"Julie last used her credit card fifteen minutes ago."
Hotch and Rossi leave to go find Julie to bring her in, and you walk inside the interrogation room with Spencer and Adam. He tenses when he sees you but relaxes knowing you're not a big burly man who has alpha male problems.
"Adam, let's talk about the fight you had with the first victim, William Browder."
"There's nothing to tell. He grabbed Madison and I tried to stop him."
"That guy was pretty big."
"So?"
"Adam, guys like you and I aren't exactly the fighting type."
"Madison is a good person. She didn't deserve to be treated that way."
"Now I'm confused because you just told me that you don't remember the fight."
"I don't. I mean, I don't but I do," he stutters.
"You don't but you do? Can you explain to me how that works?"
"I remember he grabbed Madison so I tried to stop him. The next thing I knew, Julie was pulling me out of the pool."
You lean down to whisper in Spencer's ear so that Adam can't hear you.
"You're only making him confused. He won't anything. His other personality did it. Adam blocked it from his memory. Questioning him is pointless unless that other personality comes out."
"Tell me about you and Julie. What's the relationship?"
Adam is happy to talk about Julie knowing she's a safe topic.
"We've been friends since I was a kid.":
"Are you lovers?"
"No."
"Then why does she pay for everything you have?"
"It's not like it's a handout. I'm working at the hotel so I can pay her back."
"Does she pay for the drugs, too?"
"I told you. I get migraines," he sighs.
"So, take a prescription instead."
"I thought you were different."
"What does that mean?"
Adam doesn't answer, and he's not going to answer in the way Spencer wants. It's not conventional, but you can use a lie detector test to see what else he knows. It'll help in determining what parts of his story is true. Hotch and Rossi come back with Julie so she can undergo the same lie detector test, but you're not in the room with her. You decide to stay with Spencer and Adam even though you're like a fly on the wall.
Once Adam gets set up, Spencer begins the questions.
