NOTES: Two days before the show closed on Broadway. Good amount of closeups and good quality filmed from the mid-mezzanine; there is a railing issue for a while in Act 1 but the taper improves. 'Me', 'Gaston' and 'Be Our Guest' are all predominantly missing and recording stopped for some time after 'Gaston', which created a little jump in the timeline to where Maurice gets thrown out of the tavern. Still a nice video with great closeups of the last Broadway cast.

Tumblebrutus is so aggressive and impulsive and touchy in this version, but it’s lovely to see that he’s also very tactile and open to physical affection.

Plato Just Wants To Sleep - the saga continues. See below the cut for other occasions on which this poor boy tried to sleep and was rudely awakened. (Sean Mcgrath, Hamburg 1999)

Alonzo, Mistoffelees, and Pouncival showing off makes him stir and grumble (Stefano Bontempi, Clinten Pearce, and Damian Kacperski). Tumblebrutus flipping past doesn’t even merit an opened eye, but Cassandra is very annoying (Daymon Montaigne-Jones and Marie Dumas). He does finally deign to wake up, though, when  Bombalurina (Donna Hagan) comes in to start her sexy dance - which is lucky, because it means he gets to dance with her!

(The other pairings are Mungojerrie/Rumpelteazer, Tugger/Demeter,  Tumblebrutus/Cassandra, and Tantomile/Coricopat).

Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer, just before the Macavity reveal. They’re cuddling ‘Deuteronomy’ with the other kittens before Demeter scatters them. Rumpelteazer immediately dashes away, but Mungojerrie stays close, even pawing/lashing out at Demeter - and she has to lash out at him again to get him to back away. (Pouncival is the kitten in front of Mungojerrie, and he doesn’t back off until Mungojerrie does.)

In the second gif, Pouncival clings close to Mungojerrie and follows his lead when he tries to edge forward again - but Rumpelteazer tries hard to pull Mungojerrie back, away from the danger.

In the third one, Mungojerrie flinches back when Demeter leaps on ‘Deuteronomy’, edging back a bit but keeping his head up and ready to spring, positioning himself between the danger and Rumpelteazer - and possibly protecting Pouncival as well.

And a few seconds later, after the reveal - he’s one of the first cats to attack Macavity. Even though he’s terrified.

In Hamburg it’s Tumblebrutus who gets pushed forward by Plato to approach Grizabella. Here he plays it as though he’s almost terrified: not luring her in to scratch her for mischief or malice, but forced to approach and reach out now that he’s been pushed forward, and losing his nerve at the last minute. Pouncival then approaches in the last gif and Jellylorum rushes forward to head him off (and comfort him).

Which makes it all the more interesting that, after Victoria, Tumblebrutus is the first to approach her at the end.
