So, for a long time Alexander Auler (Vienna Munkustrap) had, as the thumbnail for his Cats insta highlights, an image that looked like it might be him in Bill Bailey makeup, but it was too small and blurry to be sure.

Well, in his farewell post (😭), he dropped the whole photo—and it's even better than expected!

He and his partner Matt Levick swapped faces and did each other's makeup as their own cat!

Aaron Hunt as Bill Bailey (Tumblebrutus) and Russell Dickson as Munkustrap, closing night in Zurich for the 2022 international tour (28 May).

Tumble circles Munk's leg then dives through the Munkustance, getting some pets on the back before popping up in front of him. Then he looks back at him, giggling, and ducks behind him, where they do a synchronised little weaving dance, each moving opposite the other, and catching each other's eyes on the end of each lean. Then Tumble catches Munk by the waist, seems to tickle him, and bounds away in a classic Mischief Kitten prance, leaving Munk to Jenny!

Look, real talk for a moment? This is beautiful and it tugs at my heart.

As someone who's spent over a decade training in an industry / vocational environment where you're lucky if you can find a non-casual position for a year or two even in the country of your choice, let alone end up, say, in the same institution as your SO for long enough to build a life together...

... it hurts me and it makes me very very happy to see moments like this, where Matthew Levick can just flip across the stage and his partner Alexander Auler can be there every night to see him and say YES THAT'S MY BOY HE'S AWESOME. (plus delicate leggie, because, aulerstrap.)

Adulting and stability are becoming so much harder lately, and all the more so for devalued jobs like the arts, so. Moments like this, worth appreciating. And envying.

Wednesday 23 February 2022 was his final day with the Vienna revival. Matthew Levick, who played the role in seasons 1 and 2 and covered it as a swing for most of this season, will resume the role until the show closes in June.

Munkustrap being a dad and loving it. Look at him beaming as he tries to wrestle the kitten deluge under control! Victoria has called dibs on the Munkulegs and will fight anybody who tries to get close. Where did Bill Bailey go oh there he is, better grab hold of his scruff to keep him still, he's looking a bit excitable. Carbuckety, no, don't yoink the Jemimacat, Jemima leave some fur on the poor man's arm please. And bonus - because Jalonzo is looking very elegant and prim in that first gif, doing a bit of lounging and preening - Demelonzo tidying themselves and each other behind the annoying sticker that I cropped out of the kitten gif.

And Mistoffelees (Xavier Pellin) pops in at the end with his back to the camera, presumably having disposed of Deuteronomy's mask and hoping for more pats himself.

Please admire baby protector Tumblebrutus in this clip of the fight from China 2012.

We start with Macavity hypnotising Alonzo (left) and Skimbleshanks (right). When Alonzo goes down, Pouncival starts pawing at him anxiously, to get him up or make sure he's alright.

0:07 seconds: Coricopat and Tumblebrutus attack from either side and get yeeted.

0:11 - Tumble tries again.

Then we have some Demeter and Munkustrap, with Alonzo entering view on the tyre around 0:37. When he snatches Demeter from the other two, Bombalurina runs behind the boys and covers his retreat, even getting in a slash at Macavity - good for her! Behind them at 0:45 we can just see where Skimble's retreated to - he's on all fours, upstage between the car and ladder.

Then Macavity and Munkustrap do their thing, with Alonzo dashing around, trying to join in. At 1:09 when Macavity tosses Munkustrap, the camera pans right and we see Jenny and Skimble on all fours, and Bomba and Tumble standing up. Munkustrap lands practically on Tumble's feet, and Tumble immediately goes down to shield him with his body: look at this baby protector stance!

But no need: Macavity turns to fight Alonzo now, while Skimble frets in the top right corner of the frame. Then once Munkustrap gets back up, it's all over, and Macavity's... not there.

Unless there are any covers on: Ding Ran is Tumblebrutus, Zhang Hao is Macavity, Cong Zijun is Alonzo, Xia Zhenkai is Munkustrap, Ai Yuhan is Bombalurina, Ding Zhenying is Demeter, and Da Mula is Skimbleshanks.
