I like that the vast majority of the ballroom Cats cast is black because it seems like black actors only ever get cast as the same handful of characters in this show.
#I feel like I only ever see black actors cast as Old Deuteronomy Cassandra Grizabella Alonzo or Mistoffelees#and maybe Tugger bomba and C+T#(and obviously there are exceptions)#and yeah while that seems like a lot and they’re all great roles#that’s still a really narrow section of the cast of characters#blue’s thoughts#cats the musical

Found the very start of Gumbie Cat (skip to 4:41, because apparently Tumblr doesn’t play videos from timestamps. Tumblr pls.) when Misto thinks it’s his turn in a video with Lindsay Chambers as Mistoffelees on Broadway in the early-ish 1990s. Some interesting notes and thoughts on this very brief part, noting some differences from his performance as mute Zurich!Misto.
1. Misto’s little spins across the floor on his hands and knees is extremely adorable
2. His pose right as Munk starts singing is very dramatic, apropos of Mistoffelees, and is similar but different to his Zurich!Misto performance. I can definitely see the influence on Jacob Brent’s later performance as Misto, especially in the 1998 film.
3. Munk here isn’t as harsh toward him as Zurich!Munk is with Zurich!Misto; instead he just sort of shakes his head at him and reaches out his paw toward Misto as if to let him down gently “No, not your turn yet, Mistoffelees.” He does do a little step toward Munk as well before sinking down with disappointment, though he does look a little annoyed as well.
4. However, unlike Jacob!Misto, he doesn’t get embarrassed and cringe to oblivion when he realises it’s definitely not about him. Instead, he just sinks down into a kitten crawl and sadly and slowly crawls away, reminiscent of Zurich!Misto, which only serves to break my heart again.

Having been tagged by @historyandqueershenanigans and @aniron48 and @10moonymhrivertam (literally while I was working on it! 😂) I figure I should do this. Thank you all for thinking of me!
Rules: post the first lines of your last 10 fics. If you have fewer than 10 fics, post the first lines of all your fics.
Going oldest to newest… Except where noted, these are all Matthew the Emotional Support Raven fics.
10. Cold. “Why is this dream so c-cold?” Matthew asked, hopping from foot to foot in the snow.
9. Mimic. Matthew landed on the branch of a gnarled tree. “Heya, Merv.”
8. Shiny. Dream sat at a table in the library, slouching in the comfortable chair with his long legs stretched in front of him and crossed at the ankles.
7. Hanging. Matthew hopped along beside Lord Morpheus as he strode through the Palace of the Dreaming.
6. Dreaming of Leverage. (Sandman/Leverage crossover with Dreamling) “Hardison, we can’t just trust the safety of our clients to someone from the dark web called the ‘Stranger’s Friend’!” Sophie crossed her arms over her chest.
5. Confrontation. Matthew found the Corinthian, the new Corinthian, in a clearing of the dark and twisted forest that comprised the Nightmare Realm.
4. Missing. Lucienne wasn’t sure how long she had been absorbed with her shelving when movement outside the window caught her eye.
3. Loverboy. “Ok, so discreetly check on the child in the waking world and make sure the over-enthusiastic nightmare didn’t do any damage. Report back. Got it, Boss.”
2. Field Trip. “Matthew. Attend me.”
1. It Feels Like Art. (Cats the Musical. Tuggoffelees. Sequel to Clever Cat.) “Mistoffelees! Mistoffelees? Are you here, my boy?”

It was getting dark, but Hob wasn’t worried. He continued along the path, using Dream’s pull to find his way through the Dreaming. Dream was probably just dealing with a nightmare, he assured himself.

We love seeing Griza-Breton the Glamour Cat!
With Ebony Jayne Kitts as Victoria, Caroline Eby as Sillabub, Taylor Bryant as Jennyanydots, John Neurohr as Skimbleshanks, and Henry Rhodes as Mistoffelees.
Having Emma as Grizabella meant that Taylor Bryant got to belt the High C in place of Jellylorum, covering her part as a split-track with Jennyanydots.
