Chapter One
Killian followed the ice wall, thankful that his heavycoat was keeping out most of the chill of the night.
After receiving Emma's… what do they call it? Talking call? He'd done as she asked, scoping out the mysterious wall that erected overnight. It was far too high and too icy to climb over, and the cold alone was enough to keep Killian from standing too close to it as he walked its length toward the town line where Emma said she and her father would be waiting.
He heard them before he saw them, and he couldn't help the little tilt of his lips when he heard the sound of her voice.
Stepping out from the trees, Killian saw her standing with her father, both of whom were regarding the ice wall.
"In case you were wondering," said Killian, gaining their attention, "it goes the whole way around."
Both of them looked over as he stepped out from the forest, a comfortable, perhaps slightly smug, smile on his face. He saw something flicker in Emma's eyes when she saw him, and he liked to think it was some brief contentment in his company.
Yet, the look on David's face was anything but.
It seemed like Killian had managed to do something to irritate the prince before even having arrived.
"Hook," said David, and Killian heard that irritation color his words thickly. "I didn't know you would be joining us."
Truthfully, Killian himself was less than pleased when Emma told him to meet her and her father, so he understood the feeling.
Because Killian had built quite the residence on David's nerves, he allowed his smugness to grow. "I get a distressed call from a fair maiden," he said with a flick of his eyes to Emma, seeing her brow raise in an unimpressed look the way he knew it would, "and I'm on the spot."
"I was not distressed," said Emma with a slight roll of her eyes. "And you're saying, what, this wall goes around the whole town?"
"That it does."
"So, once again," said David, "we can't leave Storybrooke."
"Doing more than keeping us inside, by the looks of it," said Killian, eyeing the wall distrustfully. It didn't look as if it were made from do-gooding fairies or any of the snuggly sort. Killian's gaze followed the ice and snow until he saw the large, crumpled metal structure lying in a heap on the ground, surrounded by tangled coils of black cords and broken glass. From what he's gleaned from this town, he's seen them spark what Emma coined electricity. "I guess that's what caused the loss of power?" He asked, looking to Emma for confirmation.
If he wasn't mistaken, her brows rose with surprise. "When did you become a twenty-first century man?" Killian did his best not to let onto the fact that impressing her pleased him. "Yeah," Emma went on. "It looks to me like whoever was putting up the wall wasn't trying to take out the lights, they were just… putting up the wall." That smile of hers faded, once again her attention taken by the endless strings of danger that seemed to follow her.
Her father's gaze followed hers. "To keep us in," he agreed. "Why?"
"Kill us all, one by one." Killian smiled goodnaturedly, even when both of them gave him looks. He shrugged. "It's what I'd do."
What I used to do.
For he wasn't that man anymore.
And the woman not a yard away from him was why.
Some garbled voice laced with static sounded from the driving vessel, and David turned back to go check it.
Perfect.
Killian stepped into the space David had once stood in, finding himself next to Emma. The indescribable urge to touch her, to kiss her welled in his entire being, but he attempted to keep it at bay.
Only days ago, they'd gotten back from their trip to the past.
Only days ago, he'd finally given up his secret to Emma—how he got to her. Trading his ship–his beloved ship–for the magic bean that would take him back to her realm.
And only days ago, Emma had kissed him.
Given into what Killian could only hope—only dream—she'd been fighting for as long as he had.
It was the second time they kissed, yet it was nothing like the first.
The first was desperate and fueled by passion and doomed to be what Emma had firmly said: a one-time thing.
But the second…
She'd proven herself wrong, and she'd kissed him again. Made the choice herself, for Killian knew by now, Emma was equal to that of a frightened animal when it came to anything emotional. He had to let her lead this all the way through. He was a patient man. And more than that…
She was worth it.
That recent kiss…
Killian could still taste her.
It was something soft and sweet and so unlike the persona that Emma puts out, this armor she wears. For as tough as she likes to be perceived, Emma is one of the most innocent souls he's ever met, and also one of the most damaged. And how anyone could damage someone as pure as Emma…
One day, he might ask her for some names, and decide to teach a few people a very painful lesson.
But the other day, their moment wasn't rushed.
It wasn't desperate.
She'd kissed him, and he'd felt himself melt.
Everything he's waited for.
All that time, after all of her attempts to push him away, he'd truly wondered if he was chasing after someone who simply would never want him in return.
She'd disappeared after they'd gotten back from the past, and he'd thought perhaps he misread it all. Even the moments trapped in the past… he could still feel her against his chest, could still feel her crumble into his embrace in a way that suggested she trusted him, in a way he might have fooled himself into thinking she needed him, even for just a moment.
He'd sat outside the diner that night while she and her family celebrated the baby, alone with his thoughts and rum, facing the terrifying thought of what if she doesn't want him? What the bloody hell was he to do then? He'd never call the time he spent chasing her, the things he'd done for her, the times he'd saved her as wasted time. To him, it was a dream, a gift, a privilege that he played any part in her life.
But the idea that she could want him back, that he could have her without having to chase her, without having to fight her walls every step of the way…
It was something he wanted so badly it hurt.
But that night, when that diner door opened, when she'd come outside with a gaze that was looking specifically for him….
His hope had flared, a dying firelight flickering in a windstorm.
"How did you do it? How did you get to me?"
He'd never intended to tell her.
The idea of telling her felt as vulnerably naked as when he'd been forced to reveal the depth of his feelings for her in the Echo Cave. When he knew that even if she'd felt an attraction for him, even if she felt something, it was too soon. No matter what feelings she might have had, she'd fight it to the bloody death before admitting it, especially to herself.
And this, this secret, how he'd gotten to her… it felt just as… revealing, if not so much more.
He'd, more than once, told her how much his ship meant to him.
His ship, for so many years, had been his one and only love, and ever since he and Liam had commandeered the Jewel and since she'd become the Jolly, had been his home.
Until…
Killian took a moment to look at Emma, even when her attention was drawn to the ice wall.
Home was no longer a place to him.
He felt something tug at his lips, looking at the only home he'll ever need for the rest of his days.
He'd been so afraid to tell her such a thing—for he already knew with a painful certainty that he was in love with this woman, far deeper even than Milah, which he once would have never, ever believed could be possible, and only recently admitted to himself—and it almost felt as if telling Emma how he managed to get to her realm was saying those three words all the same.
And after all the times she's pushed him away…
"How about you try cursing the lips of someone I'll actually kiss."
He knew she had been scared.
He knew that Emma knew admitting to Zelena that she felt anything for him was a dangerous move.
And Killian knew Emma didn't mean it.
But it didn't mean it didn't hurt.
And it also didn't mean it didn't make him worry that there was truth in those words.
If he told her what happened to his ship…
If he told her what he gave up for her…
If he told her before she was ready to accept her own feelings for him, if he told her before she even had any…
He was terrified it would scare her away for good.
He was bloody terrified that a rejection from her at this point would be a break his weathered heart finally couldn't take.
But that night outside the diner, that look in her eyes…
Something had changed, after they'd gone back in time.
He'd felt it, he knew it was finally mutual, and that look in her eyes as she waited for his response…
She was ready.
He could see it.
He could feel it.
She might still be as hesitant as a fawn alone in the woods, but…
She wanted it.
And that kiss…
Her choice…
That night was proof that his doubts were wrong.
It was proof that she did want him.
And what he felt from her in that glorious moment, a moment that he re-lived from the moment she'd left him that night to every moment since…
He finally had the answer to the terrifying question he's had since Neverland.
She wanted him.
He knew she did.
But right here, standing next to her amidst the newest town dilemma, he could see it in her face.
Her walls were as solid and imposing as the ice wall in question.
And now that he knew she wanted it, knew that she was only scared…
He was determined to take those walls down completely.
Unravel her, and heal as much of the damage that had been done to her in her life.
"Be patient."
He was a patient man.
But he had a feeling that Emma would only keep running if someone wasn't there to stop her.
"I ran. It's just what I did."
He'd follow her anywhere, but he was ready to not have to chase her.
So, gently, Killian took a breath, and attempted to try to hack at her walls, and reveal the Emma he knew and loved inside.
He treaded carefully, saying lightly, "Oh! I should have brought the champagne."
His abrupt change in subject grabbed her attention, and she looked at him like he was mental. "What?"
"To celebrate our second date," he said smoothly. "And… because we've got the world's largest ice bucket," he added, gesturing to the wall.
"Second date?" she asked, and he felt himself smile wider because she was playing along. "Did I miss the first?"
"Aye," he said. "Snow monster's the first, ice wall's the second." And treading even more carefully, yet rising to those imposing walls of hers, he said, "After all, if I only count the quiet dinners, we wouldn't even get one."
It was a push, he knew it, but he had quite the idea that Emma wasn't planning on making any move herself. It was a slightly firmer push than the more gentle ones he's made since that glorious moment, allowing her to avoid him, allowing her to take her own time.
But Killian knew it was only her fear, those damn walls keeping her from truly being with him.
A man unwilling to fight for what he wants, deserves what he gets.
He was ready to fight those walls of hers with everything he had, one scratch a time.
Killian watched her carefully as she looked away from him, shifting her stance like she was unsure, but then in pure Emma-fashion, her eyes caught hold of a distraction. And just like that, he and his attempts were forgotten with her whisper of, "Hang on, I think I see something behind the wall."
Killian let out a breath, hanging his head a little in defeat.
"Wait here with the ice bucket while I check that out," murmured Emma, still not looking at him, her full attention drawn to the supposed danger.
Emma started toward the wall, and Killian tried to think of another way to approach the subject in a way that wouldn't scare her off when David returned, stopping to stand beside him. "I think it's time you and I have a little chat about your intentions with my daughter."
Killian's brow rose. The tone of his voice suggested this was a long-time coming. Though at least now he understood the irritation from earlier.
Not exactly in the mood, because it seemed it would be years before anything even remotely happened with his daughter, Killian couldn't exactly hide the edge to his voice. "That's a little old fashioned, even by my standards," he muttered. "And I still pay with doubloons."
David swung the flashlight beam around, as if his full attention wasn't on his attempt to intimidate Killian, which was quite impossible. "Remember," said David, "I know your reputation. Emma's not some conquest."
Killian's brow hitched even higher at that, because did he honestly think that's what this was about? David has seen the amount of times Killian has risked his life for Emma, from Neverland to the Wicked Witch, to their trip to the past, where David had physically witnessed the lengths Killian would go for her. Killian would not have given up his revenge and traded his damn ship simply for a good time with a beautiful woman.
Feeling his own frustrated heat, he said firmly, "I wouldn't risk my life for someone I see as loot." David said nothing, and Killian went on, just as firmly, "Whatever we become, it's up to her as much as me." Killian kept his gaze firmly on David until the prince finally turned to look him in the face. Killian held his gaze, and when the prince was still silent, lifted his brow as if to dare David to contest the truth in his words.
David held his gaze, looking the slightest bit surprised at the amount of emotion in Killian's eyes. Perhaps David was only trying to make up for lost time as a father, perhaps it was just his way of trying to protect her when she was already all grown up, but the insinuation that Killian would use Emma was something that disgusted him. And after all this time, for David to even suggest it…
Hadn't he done enough to prove the lengths to which he'd go for Emma?
It seemed, unfortunately, that it was a constant battle to prove himself to both Emma and her family, no matter what he did.
David gave a little nod, but there was still a question in his eyes. Small, faint, but there.
Pirate.
Killian let out a breath.
He'd just have to prove himself.
Again.
But if he was being honest with himself, the life he led and the man they had met so long ago certainly warranted such distrust.
But he was really, really ready to be free of that curse.
Whether he brought it on himself or not.
"Oh–"
Both Killian and David looked over at the sound of Emma's quiet, startled voice.
They could faintly make out the conversation she seemed to have with someone else as both men rushed toward the wall. Was someone trapped in it?
"My sister. I need to find her."
It was another woman's voice.
And with it, a flurry of snow began to fly around the wall.
Killian exchanged a look with David as they ran.
Killian covered his face as the snow picked up with speed and power, making it hard to see and the temperature drop even lower. But Killian could see blond hair fly just beyond the few icy stalagmites Emma had climbed through.
Sudden fear seized Killian's chest, realizing that whomever Emma was speaking to must have created this wall, for they were also creating the sudden snowstorm.
Emma.
Killian exchanged another fearful glance with the prince who seemed to put two and two together just as he did, and David deftly drew his projectile weapon, aiming it toward the figure of the unfamiliar woman.
Emma was still beside her, and Killian could see her now, the fear in her eyes, hair flying wildly, but her hands were out toward himself and her father in a placating gesture. "No," said Emma quickly. "No, it's okay, you don't have to—"
The figure of the woman backed away even as the storm picked up around them, as if the magical ice witch was completely unaffected by the buffeting wind that made Emma, Killian and her father cover their faces from the icy wind.
But it was when the ground shook, the distinct sound of a crash and Emma's scream that Killian's eyes snapped open, panic like a dagger to his chest.
Something struck her, and she fell to the ground.
"Emma!" cried both Killian and David.
Killian watched in horror as ice fell from the wall, cascading down—
Emma.
It was going to crush her.
Killian ran before he could think.
He dove through the structure, hearing the prince's yell behind him but he didn't stop.
He reached Emma, covering her body with his just as the ice struck them both.

guys! i know some of you may hate me for this. but i’m planning on writing a few books on wattpad so i can write a full story instead of imagines. i will still be here don’t worry! but i’d really appreciate it if you guys could send some love over there. the book i’ve started writing is a bit different to what i write on here, it’s killian jones from ouat.

I Loved You First - a Daddy Charming birthday fic for @kmomof4

As many of us in the CS fandom know, Krystal is the best cheerleader, encourager and flailer for our Captain Swan stories. However, she also loves the relationship between Emma and Charming, so I've written a Daddy Charming birthday story for her. l wish you the happiest of birthdays (a day early), my dear friend! Love you!

David Nolan paced in the hallway outside the room where Mary Margaret was helping Emma get ready for her wedding. He could hardly believe he would be giving his daughter away in just a few minutes, and to a pirate, no less.
He remembered in Neverland when he said he would see to it that Hook would never get Emma. David wasn’t too prideful to admit he’d been wrong. Nobody can stand in the way of True Love, after all - he and Snow were proof of that.
And now that pirate, whom he’d tried so hard to hate, was his soon-to-be son-in-law…and his best friend. While Killian was earning Emma’s heart, he was also earning her father’s trust and friendship. So much so that Emma and Mary Margaret teasingly accused them of having a ‘bromance’.
The door opened and Mary Margaret emerged, brushing joyful tears from her cheeks. “She’s ready, David, and she looks absolutely beautiful!”
David pulled his wife into his arms, murmuring, “So do you, Sweetheart.”
She hiccuped a laugh. “You’re only supposed to notice the bride on her wedding day, not her mother.”
He leaned back, giving her one of his trademark smiles. “There will never be a day when I don’t admire your beauty.”
“I knew I called you ‘Charming’ for a reason,” she beamed. After kissing him soundly, she wiped his lips clean of the lipstick she’d left behind and said, “Now, go see your daughter before it’s time for us to walk her down the aisle.”
David straightened his tie and buttoned his jacket, then gently rapped his knuckles on the door. “Emma? May I come in?”
“Sure, Dad,” came her reply.
He turned the knob and slowly opened the door, peeking around the edge of it. His breath hitched when he caught a glimpse of his daughter. She was truly a vision in her wedding gown and veil, causing him to blink back tears of his own. “Oh, Emma,” he breathed.
“How do I look?” she asked nervously, twirling in a circle.
“You look…perfect,” he managed to choke past the lump in his throat.
Her cheeks flushed at his praise and she looked down at herself, smoothing out non-existent wrinkles in her gown. “Do you really think so?”
“I do,” he assured her.
“Hey, I think that’s my line today,” she giggled.
David laughed and stepped forward to take both of her hands in his. “Any second thoughts?”
“None,” she said confidently. “Besides, if I don’t marry Killian, you might just snap him up.”
“Very funny,” he said, narrowing his eyes at her. Then his expression sobered. “I know you’ve had a lot on your mind the last few weeks, but I want you to put everything aside today and just enjoy your wedding.”
“I’ll try.”
“I’ve thought about this day ever since we found out we were having a daughter. I was sure no one would ever be good enough for you, but Hoo-, um, Killian has proven himself time and time again. I suppose if I have to give your hand in marriage, it couldn’t be to a more worthy man.”
“You didn’t always think that.”
“I know, but I was, well…I was wrong.”
“I’m sure Killian would be very satisfied to hear you say that,” she quipped.
“Of course he would,” David sighed. “But enough about Hook. What about you? How are you feeling?”
Emma’s face took on a serene look. “I’m happy, Dad. Really, really happy.” She swung their still-clasped hands back and forth.
“Happiness looks good on you,” he replied, letting go with one hand and using the other to spin her around. Then he pulled her back toward him, putting his free hand on her waist as hers moved to his shoulder.
They slowly danced in a small circle around the room to music only they could hear. “We missed out on so much of your life, Emma. I’m very glad we didn’t miss out on watching you fall in love and marry the man who won your heart.”
“I know we lost a lot of time with each other, but let’s not talk about regrets today, Dad. We’re together now, along with Henry and everyone else in town. I have more family and friends here than I ever dreamed was possible. And I’m marrying a man who has been at my side without fail, even when I didn’t really want him to be.”
David chuckled. “He has proven himself to be persistent, that’s for sure.”
Their swaying came to a stop as Emma looked up into her father’s face. “You and Killian are such good examples for Henry. He’s lucky to have both of you in his life, and so am I.”
They heard the wedding music beginning to play, and David checked his watch. “I guess it’s about that time. Will you allow me to get a little sentimental before we leave this room?”
“Just don’t cause me to smudge my makeup.”
“I’ll try not to,” he promised, then took a deep breath. “Emma, from the moment your mother and I found out we would be having a baby, I wondered what our child - what you - might grow up to be like. Nothing I imagined even came close to the person you are - strong, smart, determined, brave, and so very, very beautiful. You’ve defeated dragons, ice monsters, witches, the darkness and Hades himself; yet you’re one of the most loving, generous, and kind-hearted people I’ve ever known. To say I’m proud of you doesn’t do justice to my true feelings. I love you, Emma, and I’m blessed beyond measure to be your father.”
A tear spilled over her lower lashes, and David dug into his pants pocket to retrieve a white handkerchief. After dabbing the wetness away, he tucked it back in his pocket, kissed her forehead, then pulled her into a hug, cupping the back of her head, as usual.
“I love you, too, Dad,” she whispered in his ear.
They stayed that way for several moments, until they heard a tap on the door. Mary Margaret stuck her head in, whispering reverently, “It’s time.”
David nodded and stepped back, gripping Emma’s upper arms as he looked into her eyes. “Ready, Princess?”
“Yes,” she replied firmly.
“Alright, then,” he said, “but just remember this - Killian loves you now, but I loved you first. You’ll always be your daddy’s little girl.”
“I’ll remember,” she said, a soft smile on her lips.
“Good. Now, let’s go get you married.”

Christmas Reruns 2023 Day 12: Eli the Elf

Merry Christmas if you celebrate it and happy holidays if you don’t!  One of the things I love about Christmas is watching reruns of all the old classic Christmas movies–Christmas is a big time for nostalgia.  A few years ago, I decided to incorporate that tradition into my fandom life and post my CS holiday reruns.  So here you go!  Enough holiday (mostly) fluff to get you to New Year’s Day. (With a new story posting on Christmas Day.)

Note:  This fic was originally written for Fluffy Fridays in 2019
Emma collapsed onto the sofa in her living room.  Being the parent of a rambunctious, mischievous three-year-old was not for the faint of heart, that was for sure.  Not that she’d change her crazy life for anything.  Emma loved Hope Swan-Jones with all her heart.  After all the months and even years she and Killian had tried for a baby with no success, there was no doubt that Hope was their miracle, their second chance, their opportunity to be a family.   
As Emma’s maternity leave had neared its end, Emma and Killian had come to the decision that they wanted to be there for and with their daughter every hour of the day.  Daycare simply wasn’t an option for them, so they’d come to an arrangement: they’d trade off days.  One day Emma went into the station and Killian stayed home with Hope, and the next day they swapped.
Lately, it seemed like Emma was far more tired at the end of her days with Hope than she was at the end of her days as the sheriff.  Who would have thought those early months where Hope barely slept would actually end up being the easy parts of parenting? 
Hope was a good girl, sweet, affectionate, smart as a whip, but she was also the daughter of a pirate.  Seemed like Emma couldn’t turn around for a second without Hope making another mess or getting onto some sort of mischief. 
Emma let herself succumb to sleep while Killian put Hope to bed–no doubt with a thrilling, overly dramatic bedtime story, like he did nearly every night.  Hope adored his tales…and everything else about her Papa.  Emma knew her daughter loved her, but there was no doubt she was a daddy’s girl.
 The couch dipped beside her, waking Emma abruptly.
 “My apologies love,” Killian said, “I didn’t mean to wake you.”
Emma yawned before settling into Killian’s waiting arms.  “Don’t worry about it.  I was just kind of resting my eyes.  Don’t want to sleep through the evening when we finally get to have a little alone time.”
Killian brushed a kiss against the crown of her head and tightened his arms around her.  “I worry about you love.  You’ve been so tired lately.  Are you sure nothing’s amiss?”
Emma kissed him gently.  “I’m fine, Killian, I promise.  Guess I’m just having a tougher time navigating life as a working parent than I thought I would.”
“Are you sure…?”
“I am,” she said decisively.  “It’s just, we have a very busy, active toddler on our hands.  I love her like you would not believe, but by the end of the day, I’m so tired I feel like I could sleep standing up.”
Killian’s brow furrowed.  “The lass is three now, old enough to begin to understand consequences.  Perhaps we should begin discussing disciplinary tactics.”
“You know, I was thinking about that today,” Emma said, settling against Killian’s chest and resting her hand over his heart, loving the comfort his softly thumping heartbeat gave her.
 “Christmas is coming up in a couple of weeks, and I thought maybe we could make use of some of the traditions to convince her to work on her behavior.”
“Swan, if you’re referring to that Santa Claus fellow, I’m not entirely sure I approve,” Killian said, voice sternly disapproving.
Emma laughed.  “You are morally opposed to Santa Claus?  Why?”
“One cannot seem to patronize any establishment in this town without hearing his song,” Killian said, “He sees you when you’re sleeping.  He knows when you’re awake.  He knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake.  Swan, this Santa fellow sounds like one of the worst villains we’ve faced yet.”
Emma laughed again.  “Killian it’s just a song, and it’s all in fun.  Kids love Santa.  He’s the one who brings them presents.”
Emma could see in Killian’s face that he wasn’t convinced.
“Anyway,” she continued, “that’s not what I was talking about, not really.  There’s this other tradition parents do sometimes.  Called Elf on the Shelf.  You get this toy elf, and the idea is that it watches the kids and kind of reports to Santa.  Each night the parents move the elf, so it’s like it’s alive.  The fun of it is that the kid never knows where the elf is going to show up next.  Plus, knowing there’s an elf watching you, well, it’s extra incentive to be on your best behavior.”
“Are you daft, Swan?” Killian exclaimed.  “This ‘Elf on the Shelf’ sounds, if possible, even more horrifying than Santa Claus!  I’d rather not traumatize our daughter.” 
“Would you stop being such a drama queen?” Emma asked, laughter still evident in her voice.  “I promise you it’s all in fun.  This isn’t some Christmasy ‘scare the kid straight’ thing.   Kids love it.  It brings the magic of Christmas to life.” 
Killian was clearly still skeptical, but finally conceded.  “Very well, Swan.  We’ll try this Elf on the Shelf, but if it gives Hope nightmares, I must put my foot down.”
“Relax babe,” Emma said.  “If the elf gives Hope nightmares, I’ll personally lock it in our dungeon. 
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ 
The next morning 
Killian stepped into Granny’s and made a b-line for the large booth at the back of the establishment, seeing David and Rogers already present. 
After the realms had combined, Dave had suggested he and Killian get together with Rogers, as the town decided to continue referring to his alternate reality version, to help him get adjusted to life in Storybrooke.  This get together quickly became a weekly thing.
Emma referred to their weekly breakfasts as the “brot3 convention.”  Killian hadn’t a clue what that might mean, but the phrase brought a delighted smile to Swan’s face, and that was enough to make Killian adopt the language.  There was very little he wouldn’t do to make his wife smile. 
“Hey Killian! Good to see you,” David said. 
Killian noted the fatigue in his father-in-law’s eyes and the yawn he was attempting to stifle. 
“The lass keep you up last night?” he asked sympathetically.
David and Mary Margaret’s daughter Ava was quickly approaching her first birthday.  She’d come as a surprise to the couple who’d believed their family was complete after the birth of Neal, but she was a very welcome and loved surprise. 
“Yeah,” David said, and then took a bracing sip of his coffee.  “She was up every two hours last night.” 
“I thought you said she’d finally begun sleeping through the night,” Rogers said. 
“She did,” David said, “but I think she’s teething.  Runny nose, running a bit of a fever, wanting to chew on everything.” 
Both Hooks nodded in understanding and sympathy.  “I don’t miss those days with my Alice,” Rogers said.   
Their conversation was put on hold as a waitress, wearing a festive Santa hat and necklace made of Christmas lights, took their order. 
“So how about you, Killian?” David asked after the waitress walked away, “How’s everything going with your family?” 
Killian frowned.  “I must admit, I’m a bit concerned about Emma.  She’s been so exhausted lately and a couple of times she’s gotten dizzy.  She insists it’s nothing, but I’m near to insisting she visit Doctor Whale.”
“Tired and feeling faint?” David asked.  “Any other issues?”
“It was the strangest thing,” Killian said, furrowing his brow.  “This morning I attempted to serve her her customary PopTart for breakfast, but she insisted she couldn’t stomach it.  She actually asked for boiled mackerel and grapefruit.” 
“Tired, feeling faint, and with significant changes in appetite,” David listed off.  To Killian’s surprise (and consternation) a grin covered his father-in-law’s face.  “I think Emma’s right.  I think you have nothing to worry about.” 
“Other than life getting significantly busier in eight or nine months,” Rogers said with a grin identical to David’s. 
It took Killian a moment to put the dots together, but then his eyes widened.  “You think Emma could be with child?” 
“I have very little experience with these things, my own daughter’s birth being so very….unorthodox,” Rogers said, “but it certainly seems possible.” 
Killian felt the joy bubble up in him.  Another child!  He and Swan may have another child.  It was a blessing he hadn’t even allowed himself to wish for, given the difficulties they’d had conceiving Hope. 
“I suppose there was that one weekend away we had just before Thanksgiving,” Killian said slowly, “when Alice and Robin stayed with Hope.  We did engage in copious amounts of intimate activities…” 
Rogers barked out a laugh and David groaned, reminding Killian of just how much his father-in-law did not want to hear the specifics. 
Breakfast was a joyous affair following the pregnancy speculation, the three men discussing their lives over the past week. 
Killian walked home with an extra spring in his step.  This Christmas was shaping up to be one of the best he’d ever had. 
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Grandma, what do you think about putting the wreath here?” Lucy asked, holding the Disney’s Captain Hook themed wreath against their front door. 
Emma laughed.  “Looks great kid.  It’ll get a good natured grumble out of your gramps every time he walks by.”
It was still weird to get used to being called Grandma, but Emma’s heart warmed at the thought that Henry was back to stay and that she’d have the chance to get to know her daughter-in-law and granddaughter in a way she’d missed out on over the first decade of Lucy’s life.
Lucy laughed, turning to Charming to ask him to hammer a nail for her so she could hang the wreath.
It had become a Christmastime tradition since the merging of the realms.  The whole family got together to decorate each other’s houses and then have dinner together.  This weekend, a mere two weeks before Christmas, it was the Swan-Jones household’s turn to host (and get decorated). 
Emma took a step back, watching as her family, her whole, big boisterous extended family worked to make her home look like something out of the Hallmark channel.  Regina and Zelena stood by the impressively large pine tree stringing garland, Alice, Robin and Rogers worked to make the hearth festive, Henry, Jacinda, Killian and her dad were braving the frigid temperatures outside to string lights on the bushes and the front of the house, Neal was occupying Hope in the playroom, Ava napped in the nursery and Snow worked away in the kitchen on what Emma was sure would be an amazing dinner. 
It was the type of scene you’d see in one of those cheesy Christmas movies.  Happy family enjoying each other’s company while they decorate for Christmas and listen to carols.  It was even picture perfect outside, with the snow gently falling. 
It was perfect, and Emma loved every minute of it.
While Hope was occupied with Neal, Emma grabbed the elf on the shelf, looking around for the perfect place to move him.  Maybe she’d put him in Hope’s room tonight. 
Emma wasn’t sure if the elf was all that effective as a disciplinary tool.  She hadn’t noticed a significant lessening of mischief since she and Killian had introduced “Eli the Elf”, but Hope certainly seemed delighted in looking for him every morning. 
And the joy on her daughter’s face was really what was most important, when it came down to it.  It was Christmas, the time for child-like wonder. 
Emma wandered into the kitchen, pausing for a moment and taking stock of her stomach.  Seemed like smells nauseated her at the drop of a hat lately—one of the main reasons her mom had offered to make the meal for their get together (the other being neither she nor Killian could cook worth a damn).  Emma sighed in relief when she noticed the smells elicited hunger rather than nausea. 
“Anything I can help you with, mom?” 
Snow turned from the stove where she was stirring something as it bubbled merrily away.  “You sure you’re feeling up to it?  I know how rough it can be in the early months.” 
Emma gave her mom an assessing look, subconsciously placing a protective hand over her belly.  “You know, don’t you?” 
Snow abandoned the pot on the stove and rushed over to give Emma a warm, motherly hug.  “About the baby?  Your father told when he came home from the last brot3 convention.  Oh Emma!  I’m so excited for you and Killian!  Is it official?  Do you know for sure?” 
Emma felt the familiar mix of anticipation, joy and fear bubble up inside her.  After his last breakfast with the guys, Killian had come home with a smile on his face. 
“What’s up with you?” she’d asked.  “I haven’t seen you so excited since they had that buy one get one special on rum at The Rabbit Hole.”
Killian had led her to the couch.  “It’s been some time since your last monthly, hasn’t it?”
 “Uh…yeah.  I guess I’m a few days late.  Why?”
“I was talking to your father and Rogers…”
“You were talking to my father about my period?” she asked, brows furrowed. 
He laughed. “Of course not, love!  I merely mentioned your fatigue and appetite changes.”
“Okay…..” 
“Your father…” Killian said, taking her hand, “your father raised the possibility that there could be a very specific cause for your symptoms.  Love, is it possible you’re with child again?” 
Emma’s eyes had widened, the possibility not even entering her mind before he brought it up.   
“With child?  Killian, we haven’t even been trying.” 
“No, but we’ve also not not been trying,” he said. “And I can recall a few very satisfying encounters over the past few weeks that could have very well resulted in a new life…” 
Snow tapped Emma on the shoulder, and Emma realized she’d spaced out, her face flaming slightly as her mind went to a few of those “very satisfying encounters”.  Killian’s skills as a lover were ridiculous.  She’d really hit the jackpot. 
“Uh…sorry mom,” Emma said, “what were you saying?” 
“I was asking if you got it confirmed.” 
“No,” Emma said, thinking of the pregnancy test currently residing in their bathroom medicine cabinet.  “I’m a little afraid to take the pregnancy test, to be honest.” 
Snow led Emma to a chair at her dining room table and urged her to sit.  “Why, honey?” 
Emma shrugged.  “What if it’s negative?  I mean I have all the classic symptoms, and this is exactly how I felt with Hope, but….I mean, we had such a hard time getting pregnant with Hope. What if this is just some weird flu or something?  Killian and I are already excited about Baby Swan-Jones #2.  If it turns out he or she isn’t actually on the way…” 
Snow reached over and hugged Emma.  “For what it’s worth, from what your father told me, I really, really don’t think this is a false alarm, but if it is…” Snow shrugged. “Well if it is a false alarm, you and Killian can have lots of fun trying to make it a reality over the next few months.” 
“Mom!” Emma said. 
Snow shrugged again, a wicked grin on her face.  “Remember, I know how much you and Killian enjoy…pancakes.” 
Emma made her hasty exit, opting to check on the kids before her mother started talking about her own taco sessions with David.
Still, apart from the very uncomfortable thought of discussing her sex life with her mother, Snow had a point.  What did she and Killian have to lose?  She resolved she’d take the pregnancy test the very next day.

The next afternoon, around nap time. 
Hope Swan-Jones was not happy.  
She wasn’t sleepy.  Why did Mama make her take naps?  Sleeping was no fun at all!  Uncle Neal didn’t have to take naps; why should she? 
She’d asked Mama that one day, and Mama said it was because Neal was twelve years old.  Twelve-year-olds didn’t have to take naps. 
Hope wished she was twelve.  Not three. 
Hope glanced over at the shelf high on the wall and noticed Eli the Elf peering down at her.  She stuck her small, pink tongue out at him.
“I’m not going to go to sleep,” she said rebelliously, “and I don’t care if you tell Santa!” 
Hope continued to look at Eli as her eyelids started getting heavy in spite of herself.  That was another thing.  Why didn’t Mama and Daddy ever let her play with Eli?  He was a doll just like the others she had in her play chest.  Why couldn’t she play with him?
Hope knew better than to leave her bed when Mama said to take a nap, but still, she reached out her hand as though to reach for the elf.  Suddenly she felt kind of funny, like there was something warm and bubbly just under her skin.  She watched in amazement as a beam of white light shot from her outstretched fingers, and suddenly Eli the Elf was zooming towards her, right into her arms. 
Did…did she have magic like Mama did? 
Maybe she should try again. 
She looked at the elf and then reached her hand out the way Mama did when she did magic.  “I want you to play with me, elf,” she whispered. 
The strange warm bubbly feeling happened again, and another burst of magic shot out.  
Suddenly Eli the Elf stood up on his own, blinked twice and then grinned at her in a way Daddy would have said meant trouble. 
“Eli the Elf at your service,” he said with a bow.  “So kid, you ready to have some fun?” 
Hope glanced toward the door, afraid Mama would hear.  “Shhhhhh!” she said. “We’re supposed to be asleep!” 
The elf rolled his eyes.  “Naps are for Grinches.  You’re not a Grinch, are you, kid?”
She shook her head no. 
“Good,” Eli said, “so here’s what I think we should do next….”
Eli the Elf went on to outline a plan of chaos that made Hope’s eyes widen.  Surely he wouldn’t dare! 
She shook her head.  “We can’t!  We’ll get in trouble!” 
“The threat of getting caught is half the fun,” Eli said, before jumping off the bed and making a dash for the partially opened door.  “I’m going to do it, whether you follow me or not.” 
Hope climbed out of bed and tiptoed to the door.   She had to stop him!  She was going to be in so much trouble!

That evening 
Killian closed Hope’s door and made his way down the stairs to the kitchen where he set about preparing a nice steaming mug of hot cocoa. 
He had a feeling Swan would need it after the day she’d had. 
Killian had come home from the station, smile on his lips and spring in his step…only to find the living room in shambles and Emma on the couch crying. 
He’d rushed to her.  “Swan!  What happened?  Are you hurt?  Is Hope alright?” 
Emma swiped at her cheeks and got to her feet.  “We’re fine, Killian,” she rushed to reassure, stepping into his arms and burying her face in his chest.  “It’s just…I’m so damn tired, and she was supposed to be napping, and I come downstairs, and…well, just look!” 
Emma gestured to the living room.  The bottom half of the Christmas tree was completely bare, the baubles that had previously adorned its branches were strewn over the floor, a couple of the delicate glass ones broken against the hearth. 
His eyes widened.  Hope had done this? 
“Swan, there must be some mistake,” he said, “Hope is mischievous, to be sure, but she’s never blatantly engaged in destruction and she loves our Christmas tree.” 
Emma collapsed on the couch, pulling him with her.  “She was in here, Killian,” Emma said, one fat tear of exhaustion rolling down her face.  “I caught her red-handed.  Literally.  She was holding that stupid red Santa ornament in her hand when I showed up.  When I asked her what she was doing, she lied to me. Lied right to my face.” 
“That doesn’t sound like my lass at all,” Killian said, his brow furrowing as he wrapped his wife in his comforting embrace.  “I’ve never known her to speak a falsehood.  What happened?” 
“She told me…get this…she told me Eli the Elf did it!  That damn elf on the shelf was lying on the ground next to the tree.  Not only did she disobey me and leave her room during naptime, she somehow got her hands on the elf, went on a tree destroying spree, and then lied to me.  Killian, I don’t even know what to do with her anymore!” 
Emma started crying in earnest, and Killian hugged her to him, rocking her slightly and caressing her hair.  “Where is the lass now, love?” 
“She’s in her room,” Emma said, voice thick with tears.  “I…Killian, I kind of lost my temper.  I raised my voice a little.  She looked so surprised and almost, I don’t know, betrayed.  I sent her to her room, because apparently I can’t parent worth a crap, but I wanted a chance to cool down before I said anything else to her that I might regret.” 
“Sh,” Killian said. “Emma you are a wonderful mother.  Never doubt that.  We all lose our temper and have moments we aren’t particularly proud of.  We’ll sort this out.  Together.” 
He’d stayed with Emma a few more moments, holding her as she cried, and then he’d gone to have a talk with Hope. 
Now, 20 minutes later, steaming mug of cocoa in hand, he returned to the Christmas carnage that was their living room. 
Emma took the cocoa with a grateful smile.  “How is she?”
Killian’s brow furrowed.  “She’s settled for the moment, and she seems quite apologetic over what happened.  What say we put this tree to rights, aye?” 
“Killian, you don’t have to…” she called after him as he began gathering discarded ornaments and placing them on the tree.  “I can just zap it with my magic…” 
“Nonsense, love,” he said, “you’re exhausted and at your wits end.  Rest, let me handle this.”
He made quick work of righting the tree as he heard Emma sigh behind him.  As he worked, his brow furrowed.  He knew Emma was upset after her difficult day with Hope, but he knew Emma Swan-Jones, perhaps better than she knew herself.  There was something else on her mind, something else that was causing her significant distress. 
Killian set the last bauble on the tree and then sat beside his wife, opening his arms and waiting for her to settle against him before he spoke. 
“Swan, I know when your heart is heavy,” he said.  “Share your burden with me.  What’s amiss?” 
“Well Hope…” 
He stopped her with a gentle finger to her lips.  “Aye, she’s been rather difficult today, but there’s more isn’t there?”
She glanced aside, before reaching for the small box on the coffee table and handing it to him.   
He glanced at it, noting it was one of those wands that could tell if a woman was with child. 
“Swan…?” 
“I…I thought I should take the test,” Emma said, voice thick, “you know, to make sure we’re really pregnant like we think we are.”
“But it’s still in its box unopened.” 
“Yeah,” she said, glancing aside.  “I wanted to wait for you to take it, and then…” 
“Then?” He prompted. 
“Well I got scared.” 
“Of what?” he said, hugging her to him, “what frightens you?” 
She was quiet for a moment, taking the test back, and turning the box over and over absent-mindedly.  “What if it’s negative?” 
Killian rubbed her back in a comforting motion.  “Swan, we’ll cross that bridge if we get to it.”
“But I know how excited you are already about this kid…What if…?” 
Killian stopped her with a soft kiss.  “Emma, I would be delighted to welcome a new wee pirate or princess into our home, but even if it doesn’t happen, even if it never happens, I will be perfectly contented.  I have a wife I adore, a daughter I love beyond measure, and a step son with a family to dote upon.” 
She sat up and looked carefully at him.  “Do you really mean that?” 
“Aye,” he said with a decisive nod.  “But I can see the toll this uncertainty is taking upon you.  Perhaps it’s best if we find out once and for all.”
Emma took a deep breath, seeming to steel herself for whatever was to come, and then she got to her feet, taking the box with her.  “Okay, I’m going to go take the test.  Wait here.” 
Emma padded to the powder room off the kitchen, emerging two minutes later, pregnancy test in hand. “Okay, babe, moment of truth,” she said, handing him the small, white wand.  “I can’t look.” 
Killian took a deep breath and then looked down. 
Two pink lines.
“Swan,” he said, smile suffusing his whole face, “it’s positive!” 
She reached for the device, looking for herself before letting out a joyful shout.  “Positive!  Killian, we’re gonna have a baby!” 
Killian got to his feet, enveloped her in his arms and swung her around, both of them laughing and crying.  Emma leaned down and captured Killian’s lips with her own, pouring all of her joy and relief into her kiss.  They collapsed back onto the couch, the kiss continuing as they smiled against each other’s lips. 
Suddenly a shout pierced through their haze of love and happiness.  A shout coming from the direction of Hope’s bedroom. 
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ 
Hope swiped at the tear tracks on her cheeks.  It wasn’t fair; it just wasn’t fair!  Eli the Elf was the one who did the bad things and she got in trouble for it.
No one believed her.  Not even Daddy.  Oh, he wasn’t as upset as Mama was, but he didn’t believe her either; she could see it in his face. 
And he was disappointed in her.  That was the worst. 
She wished Eli the Elf had never come here!
As soon as she’d followed him from her bedroom and saw him about to start messing up their pretty tree, she’d tried to stop him.  She’d tried to use her magic like Mama did, but it hadn’t worked.  Maybe Hope sized magic wasn’t as powerful as Mama sized magic.
When her magic hadn’t worked, she’d tried to catch him and make him stop, but he was too fast for her. 
He wouldn’t stop until Mama walked into the room.  Then he played dead and let Hope get in trouble. 
“How long you gonna let them keep you couped up in here, kid?” Eli asked from the shelf where Mama had tossed him when she marched Hope to her room.  “The Christmas tree was fun, but there are lots of bigger and better things we can do to shake up this place a little.” 
“Don’t you dare!” Hope growled at him under her breath.  “You already made Mama yell at me and cry.”
Eli shrugged, and hopped down from the shelf, opening her drawers, rifling through, tossing toys and clothes every which way. 
“You stop that right now!” Hope shouted. 
The little imp ignored her, continuing on with his perusal of her things.
Hope was normally a good tempered child.  She rarely got upset, but now, finally this elf had gone too far.  She was not going to get in trouble again for something he did!  She closed her eyes, concentrated as hard as she could and then thrust her arm toward the elf.
Hope knew her magic was working even before it shot from her fingers, the warmth and electricity flowing from her surrounded the elf, wrapping him in light magic bands, like a glowing rope. 
“There!” she cried triumphantly.  “Now I’ve got you!” 
Eli the elf grinned.  It was not a pleasant sight. 
“I wouldn’t be so sure,” Eli said in a smug voice.  “You see kid, your magic brought me to life.  It can’t stop me.  It can only make me stronger.” 
Hope watched in horror as Eli puffed himself up until he got bigger and bigger and bigger.  Soon he was almost as big as Daddy. 
“Mama!  Daddy!” Hope screamed, knowing things had gone completely out of her control. 
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ 
Killian burst through the nursery door, his hook at the ready, prepared to battle whatever foe was menacing his daughter. 
Or so he thought. 
Nothing could have prepared him for the sight of the Elf on the Shelf not only alive but gigantic.  For a moment, he stood frozen in the doorway, his jaw dropped and his eyes wide, and then he jumped into action, bursting through the door, putting himself in between Hope and her elf. 
“Cygnet go!  Get to safety!”
The elf laughed, knocking Killian aside as though he were merely a ragdoll.  “You think you can defeat me?” the elf taunted.  “You think you can…” 
But before he could finish his thought, suddenly he shrunk, eyes becoming glassy, body turning back to cloth and cotton.
“Yeah, I’m sure he could have,” Emma said, stepping into the room and kicking the elf she’d just turned back into a toy, “but he doesn’t have to.  I’ll take great pleasure in kicking your…” she glanced toward Hope “butt all the way back to the North Pole.” 
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ 
Several hours later, Emma climbed into her big, comfortable four-poster bed and burrowed into her husband’s warmth. 
“So, never a dull moment in Storybrooke is there?” she said, deadpan. 
Killian laughed, rubbing comforting circles along her back.  “Final battle won, final villain defeated, and yet it still seems there’s more excitement in this small burg than in any of the realms.”
Emma chuckled and then sobered.  “I didn’t believe her, Killian.  My own daughter, and I didn’t believe her when she told us the truth about what happened.  What kind of a person does that make me?” 
“A human being,” Killian said gently.  “Her story was rather outlandish.  I had my doubts as well, if you’ll recall.  Hope is resilient love.  She knows how much you love her, and she’s forgiven you already.” 
After she’d zapped the elf, turned it back into an inanimate object and then locked it in their creepy Dark One dungeon that they kept padlocked until they could figure out how to turn it back into a normal basement, Emma had returned to Hope’s bedroom and given her a long, comforting hug, feeling her toddler sniff against her as the fear and excitement of the day slowly receded. 
“I’m so sorry, baby,” Emma murmured into Hope’s riotous blond curls.  “I should have listened when you tried to tell me the truth.”
 “It’s okay Mama,” Hope said.  “It was my fault Eli comed to life.”
Hope had gone on to explain the whole story to her stunned parents. 
“We really did make an amazing kid, didn’t we?” Emma said.  “How did it never even occur to us that she might have magic?” 
“A terrible oversight on our part, love,” Killian said, chuckling.  “She’s the second generation product of True Love.  Of bloody course she has magic.” 
“We need to talk to Regina, have her train Hope, get a handle on this thing,” Emma said.  “Magic’s great, but man can it go wrong if you don’t have it controlled.” 
Killian kissed her.  “Aye.”  Reaching down, he cupped her still-flat stomach, caressing their unborn child in the only way he could at the moment.  “What do you think are the odds this wee one will have magic as well?” 
Emma groaned.  “We’re in for a wild ride with two of them, aren’t we?” 
Killian laughed.  “That we are, Swan, but it’s nothing we can’t handle.  Together, this family can handle anything.” 
Emma hummed in agreement, and for a moment they fell silent, and then Killian chuckled.
“What?” she asked, noting the mischievous look in his eyes.
“I think it would only be good form, love, for you to admit that I was right about the Elf on the Shelf.” 
Emma rolled her eyes with a grin.  “And you’re never going to let me forget it, are you?” 
He shook his head.  “Never.” 
Emma sighed.  “There’s going to be no living with you after this.  I dread the moment you learn about the Easter Bunny.”

So I was writing some dark Booker/Elizabeth fic (like Booker becomes the new Comstock and there was a lot of juicy dom/sub vibes with him and Elizabeth and it was just so so hot). I ALSO had a Killian Jones/Princess Aurora Rapture AU where Aurora was Andrew Ryan's only child (that he knew of) and Killian I think was her body guard. And basically they hooked up, she ended up getting pregnant and died, and Killian ended up in the big daddy program and their daughter ended up as a little sister.
I'm very obsessed with Bioshock. I would give all my ships a Bioshock AU TBH.

it is one of those "if I had a nickel for every time I wanted to fuck a fictional man who went to prison (and looked really good in a prison uniform) then I would have 2 nickels. but it's a coincidence that it happened twice"
OITNB is a whole different case. that's a whole coin purse. but that's a prison show and fictional women can do whatever they want and still own me
also okay, I have seen You (I only saw the first season, and I have been meaning to watch the rest because it looks really good), and I find Joe interesting as a villain - as a lover of horror movies, I love psychotic, self absorbed, entitled characters like him (especially when their logic is so flawed) because they are so interesting to watch, but sometimes I find him annoying and even though he does some really smart things, he does also do some really dumb things that make me scream. but I never really found him hot.
I find characters hot more by their actions than their looks (like 90% of the time, a character's actions will make them look sexier to me, like with Daryl Dixon) - but that never really happened to me with Joe. maybe it would happen in the later seasons. but I would definitely write a fic with him as a romantic interest just because he is so complex and fascinating to study (like a creature - I want to put him under a microscope...)
but I love Beck. Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa in FNAF made me fall in love with Beck 10x more

Burning Every Bridge [Fic]
Fandom: Cyberpunk 2077 Rating: Mature Tags: Canon-Typical Behavior, Cyberpunk 2077-Typical Swearing, Johnny Silverhand Being An Asshole, referenced suicide ideation
Summary:
V is struggling to cope with what happened after stealing the Relic and her behavior shows it. When her adopted-father-turned-Fixer calls her out on her shit, she rails against it. It doesn't help that the peanut gallery, aka Johnny, keeps adding his commentary to an already tense conversation.
(Old fic from when I first started the game and V was more of an Era clone than she is now. Still like this piece though! Not sure if I'll keep the Era/Five dynamic (Killian is a port of Five).)

The door hissed closed behind V, the janky latch bouncing once, twice, thrice, before finally clicking and locking. She’d meant to get that fixed for the past…month, maybe, but that required more eddies and more time than she had. And it wasn’t worth a repairman walking in on one of her…episodes with Johnny.
She thunked her head back against the door, squeezing her eyes closed. Despite the dirt and grime that crusted her hands she scrubbed them across her face. She knew what was coming even before the voice snapped at her from deeper in the room like a whip.
“What the hell, Valerie?”
“It’s V,” she snarled back, “Can we start with hello, Killian?”
Opening her eyes, she rolled them to the ceiling before fixing an icy look on Killian, “You look like a fucking Corp.”
That had been their lifestyle once, chafing beneath the boot of the bigger man. They’d since faded into the shadows of Night City, cut ties with the corporate conglomerate. Killian still stuck out in the streets of Night City like a sore thumb, even after being crowned the Harbinger. He would’ve been better suited as Delamin’s henchman in his HQ than out on the streets.
She was bitterly surprised he hadn’t been mugged yet. Even with the wicked knife she knew was tucked under his finely pressed jacket and the pistol no doubt concealed somewhere on his person.
Killian stuck his hands in his pants pockets, sharp eyes roving over her, “And you look like you just crawled out of a sewer.”
V didn’t respond except with a grunt and a scowl, turning away so she could kick off her boots.
“Valerie, I don’t have all day,” Killian said flatly.
She glanced at him over her shoulder, “What the hell are you talking about?"
Rain poured outside, sweeping with it all the grime and oil that packed into the rusted buildings and poured out of the derelict cars. She slung her jacket off, spraying water droplets across the room. Killian curled his lip as some of it splattered onto his jacket, swiping it off.
He didn’t need to know that her jacket was soaked because she’d hydroplaned into a concrete Jersey barrier and careened into a puddle.
“Since when have you been stupid enough to hit two hundred miles per hour in Pacifica?”  
So he already knew, then. The way his words clipped when he got irritated drove her insane.
“You bug me or something?” V snapped, telling on herself even more as she ran her hands over the creases of her tank top, feeling for small, metal spyware.
“I didn’t bug you.” She heard the eye-roll sent her way and grit her teeth so hard her jaw ached, “I have contacts all around the city and they all say the same thing: they’re worried about you.”
His socked feet—damn him and his etiquette always taking his shoes off in her dingy ass apartment. Her boots were welding themselves to the floor with mud the longer she stood here—stalked forward until he was almost right in front of her, “You got a death wish or something?”
From the corner of her eye Johnny shimmered into view, arms crossed, “Aw is daddy worried about his little girl?” he crooned, “You still haven’t told him about the gun, V.”
“Can it, Silverhand.” She snapped, whipping her head to where he stood. But he was gone now. Dammit.
No, she hadn’t told Killian about the incident when Johnny had first appeared, about the way the horror had driven her so far out of her skin that she’d seized up her pistol and…no. He didn’t need to know that.
She still felt the cool press of metal against her lips.
Killian’s eyes flashed at her as his calloused fingers snatched her chin and pulled her eyes up to meet his. She bared her teeth, cheeks flaring at the realization she’d snapped out loud, “Back off, Kil!”
“Are you drunk? Smoking something?” He demanded, “All that chrome you’ve pumped into yourself finally frying your brain?”
She ripped her chin from his hand, smacking his arm away, “I’m not drugged up, boozed up, or going fuckin’ cyberpsycho! So lay off!”
They stared each other down for a long moment before Killian huffed out a breath through his nose. It looked exasperated, even though his body language screamed ‘offended.’ She'd seen that look every time she'd ignored his advice and gone off the rails at Arasaka.
“Then what’s going on V?” Killian’s voice prickled across her skin, igniting every burnt out, angry nerve in her body, “Hm? Because driving like you’ve got a death wish for you and half of Night City isn’t sane behavior. Getting into fire fights with the local gangs isn’t sane behavior and talking to the air isn’t sane behavior.”
V ground her teeth together as she felt the increasingly familiar static-like tingling at the base of her neck and the wash of noise over her vision as Johnny waltz in front of her then slung his arms around her shoulder.
It took all of her willpower not to look at him. If she didn’t look at him, he wasn’t there.
“C’mon V,” Johnny purred, “Tell him all about me, about how we’re becoming such great friends.”
She cut a scathing sideways look to Johnny’s arm wrapped around her shoulders, wishing she could push it off and shove him into the wall. It’d put him in his place.
Instead she turned that scathing look back to Killian, doing her best to soften her voice, “Listen, Kil, I know its a helluva lot different than corporate, but those ‘fire fights’ are gigs and they’re making me money, ‘kay? I’ll chill out on the speeding, how about that?”
A frown tugged the corners of Killian’s mouth down, deepening the wrinkles that were starting to appear the more he stressed and aged.
She’d hoped leaving the corpo world would do wonders for his stress levels. It turned out he just channeled all that corpo success into being a phenomenal fixer and turned all the stress he’d had from Arasaka into worrying about her.
It’d grind her gears and piss her off more if she hadn’t been the one to unceremoniously decide to make herself his problem all those years ago as a fresh twenty-something year old.  
She had no one to blame for her father figure acting like a concerned father except herself.
“There’s something you aren’t telling me, V.” Killian finally said after staring her down,  no, staring through her, though his voice had also lost its harsh edge.  She didn’t answer, but instead shrugged and grabbed her sopping jacket off the floor to hang up.
The silence stretched between them like a knife blade and she swore her heart was about ready to leap out of her chest. Finally he broke it, “I won’t ask again, Valerie. What’s wrong?”
She sighed, running a hand through her hair, “Nothing.”
“Bullshit.”
“I’m fine,” she insisted, “Just tired. Everything with the biochip has been...a lot”
“You’re lying.”
“Am not.”
It wasn't a complete lie.  Closer to the truth than outright refusing to say anything, at the very least.
She cleared her throat, shifting fiddling with the sleeve of her jacket, “Listen, Kil, I want to hop in the shower, so I’ll talk to you later?”
“V—“ he started but broke off with a sigh, “Alright. Just…don’t end up as roadkill, okay?”
“’Kay.” She said softly, unable to look at Killian as she heard him slip his shoes back on and left with a gentle click of the door locking behind him.
The back of her neck prickles and Johnny was there, leaning against the door, “You’ve really done it now, V.”
She flipped him off, but it was hollow, the fiery blaze of her anger snuffed out.
“Fuck you.” She snapped.
Johnny just laughed.

Headcanons:
Gideon is scared to use his magic. Having three evil magic users in your direct family tree can mess you up a bit so he has always been hesitant to use it. Hope is the one to help him learn to control and become comfortable. Magic has always come easy to her and she uses it readily to prank her friends and family.
I have a vivid scene of Gideon trying to light a candle and no matter what it’s not working so Hope takes him to a room filled with unlit candles and a piano in the center (Gideon is amazing player and a good singer but insecure about the later) She has him play a song for her which she sings too (she has a really good singing voice but most don’t know that) and as they are finishing up they almost kiss (but don’t because slow burn) he looks up realizes he lit all of them up
Hope is much more outgoing then him. I imagine there friendship started because one day she just sat next to him and started talking and didn’t stop and they’ve been friends ever since.
I like to think they have a big friend group but are closest with each other. Friend group includes: Neal (goes by Leo because it is weird to be named after your sisters baby daddy I’m sorry okay it just is) Charlotte or Cassandra (second daughter of Snow and Charming) Philip jr, Melody (Ariel’s daughter), and a daughter of Red and Dorothy gale (don’t know the name yet). It’s a weird group but they all low each other and we’re brought together by Hope.
I think everyone around them realizes they like each other before them. I think it’s a case of he feel first but she fell harder.
For Gideon he always noticed the little things and feel in love slowly but firmly. The way she always bring him lunch when he forgets. And anytime she visits him at the library she’ll bring something for his mom usually a Rose because she finds it hilarious. She gives advice to her girl friends about guys and always has their back. She is but Leo’s side when he wants to come out. And if she ever hears someone talk bad about her friend well let’s just say that right hook is powerful.
For Hope it just hit her one day. Subconsciously I think she fell in love with him as they grew up but she realizes it really quickly. One day she didn’t know and the next she did. Hope has her heart on her sleeve so it’s obvious when she realizes but she plays it cool or tries to, she doesn’t really succeed but luckily Gideon is oblivious.
I think they both confess during a life or death situation but it’s not until all the fight is done do they get to talk about it. They have a spot in the woods that is just theirs and that’s where they have their first official kiss.
Anyway I can go on forever but my hand is starting to cramp and I have stuff I need to do lol. But please tell me about some of your headcanons!!!!

I love your headcanons about the friend group! My group for them consists of Neal Nolan (who goes by CJ [Charming Jr,]) Robin Mills, and Charlotte Nolan (the Charming's third kid.) They're all in a D&D group that Henry DMs, and eventually they go on this big adventure in an au I'll someday write.
In my mind, Hope and Gideon didn't quite get along at first, but eventually Killian is just like "look, I know you don't like him, but I need you to at least try to get along" and so she does and eventually realizes "eh, this nerd's not so lame after all" and soon they become friends.
Charlotte and Hope are absolutely best friends (Charlotte is only a month older than Hope, and because Gideon took a year off from school to travel the world with his parents, he's in the same grade as them,) and Hope has told her about her crush on Gideon. (Robin figured it out on her own.) CJ also figured out that Gideon likes Hope, and Henry's known for years- probably for longer than Hope and Gideon have even actually liked each other (author's intuition there.)
I think a lot of the group has friendship bracelets. Charlotte makes them with beads, Robin always picks out a charm that goes well with the recipient, and Hope makes some with embroidery floss. Gideon has never taken off the bracelet Hope gave him, and has a few other trinkets he's collected from her over the years.
I also headcanon Gideon as autistic. I'm not sure when that started, but I don't think that one's going away.

Hehehe I am working (slowly, and rn not much at all bc of irl stuff) on a foursome fic for Emma, Killian, Liam, and Brennan from ouat. She sleeps with each one on separate occasions, not realizing they not only know each other but that they’re related, until she encounters them again when they’re all together and it’s awkward lol. But then they open up to sleeping together at once, and it kind of grows into a cute and hot foursome relationship with sex and snuggles and acknowledging individual needs and strengths. (No sexual interaction between the men, just each of them with Emma. A triple decker Jones sandwich with Emma spread in the middle.) Brennan is a daddy, Liam is a dom, and Killian is a switch, and Emma is into all of it. I don’t have a ton actually written yet, but they occupy my mind more often than not. 😇😏😘❤️

How Many Chances (Before I Get It Right)? by @o-u-a-timer. CS AU (no magic) with Daddy!Killian. Emma Swan is broken by love- or the lack of it. Failed relationship after failed relationship has left her jaded, with no one to blame but herself. A new move into a new place with her teenage son brings her face to face with Killian Jones. He aims to prove that her only problem is that she hadn’t met him yet.
Comments: Henry and Killian in dad mode. Emma with her trust issues and her unwillingness to let love back into her life. This fic!!! There really aren’t enough exclamation points to accentuate how much I adore this OuaT one shot largely exploring Charming’s point of view as he looks at his grown daughter and wishes he could have been there for her all along.  Yes, it hurts, and your heart aches for him as you read, but there is also some BEAUTIFUL daddy!Charming healing and bonding for he and Emma. There’s also some lovely understanding of how Killian has stepped into the gap for her and cared for her just as she has always needed.  It’s really a stunner - both for the family dynamics and for the CS appreciation!! <3 Don’t miss it!!

Christmas Reruns 2023 Day 6: Cold Winter's Light

Merry Christmas if you celebrate it and happy holidays if you don’t!  One of the things I love about Christmas is watching reruns of all the old classic Christmas movies–Christmas is a big time for nostalgia.  A few years ago, I decided to incorporate that tradition into my fandom life and post my CS holiday reruns.  So here you go!  Enough holiday (mostly) fluff to get you to New Year’s Day. (With a new story posting on Christmas Day.)

Notes: Today’s story was my 2017 CSSS gift for @treluna2. At the time it was written, it was a future fic about CS and the Charmings celebrating the traditional Enchanted Forest holiday, Winter’s Light. A visitor they were not expecting shows up during one of the worst blizzards Storybrooke had ever seen. Happy Holidays!

December, 2028
“Have I ever told you the story of your birth, Ava mine?” Killian asked as he sat beside his daughter’s bed on the night before her tenth birthday.
“Daddy!” Ava laughed joyously.  “You tell me that story every year on my birthday.”
“Ah, well you must indulge an old man his sentimentality, little love,” Killian said, the wrinkles beside his eyes crinkling merrily as he smiled adoringly down at the little blonde.  “It was, after all one of the best—and the most terrifying nights of my life.”
“Ok daddy,” Ava conceded, “you can tell the story again.”
“Settle in,” Killian said, tucking the covers securely around his little girl, “and prepare yourself for a thrilling tale.  You were born in the midst of the worst blizzard Storybrooke has ever seen…”
Emma leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, smiling indulgently at her little family.  Killian certainly knew how to tell a good story.  He also had a flare for dramatics…and a tendency to turn any story into something of a tall tale.  Every time he told the story of their daughter’s birth the blizzard got worse, the snow got higher, the winter wind got colder, the danger became greater, his heroics became more daring.  At this rate, by the time Ava was 30, that particular Winter’s Light would be remembered as a life and death experience for everyone present.
Emma remembered it a little differently, although even the true story was something of a thrilling tale.

December 2018
Emma collapsed on the sofa, wondering idly if she’d ever be able to get up again.  She felt roughly the size of a beached whale, and getting up from a soft, comfortable couch without help was quite the feat.
She felt a feisty kick, and rubbed her extended belly with a smile.  “I’m so not going to miss you kicking the crap out of me all day every day, kid.”
“The little lass giving you trouble today, Swan?” Killian asked, sitting on the other side of the sofa and massaging her aching feet.
“Not more than usual,” Emma said, “although I’ve been feeling more of those ‘practice’ contractions today than I have in the past.  It’s just that she never stops moving.  And I’m tired.  And my back aches.  And I’m as big as a house.  And I’m just soooooo over this whole pregnancy thing.”
Killian leaned over and kissed her gently.  “It won’t be long now, love.  Your strength and resilience throughout all these months of being with child never ceases to astound me, and I assure you I’ve never found you more beautiful or desirable.”
She shot him a skeptical look.
“Perhaps you’d fancy a proof of just how much I want you still,” he said with a wicked raise of one eyebrow. 
She laughed.  “Tempting, but you know we have to be over at my parents’ farm in twenty minutes for their Winter’s Light party.”
A couple years after they’d defeated the Black Fairy and restored peace to Storybrooke, Snow had suggested, as part of the town’s “living our happy beginning” initiative, that the residents of Storybrooke return to some of their old Enchanted Forest traditions.  The biggest and most beloved, apparently was the holiday called Winter’s Light, which occurred on December 22.
“You see,” Snow explained to Emma, “the winter solstice is on the 21st.  It’s the shortest day of the year, so the 22nd starts the return of the light.”
“So…you have a whole holiday dedicated to it?” Emma asked.
“Yeah,” Snow said, “and it’s the best day of the year!”
“So what exactly does one do on Winter’s Light?  What kind of traditions make it the best day ever?”
Killian smiled, excited as a child.  “There’s a candle lighting ceremony, where all the candles in the house are illuminated (perhaps the custom could be modernized here in the Land Without Magic to include the electric lights you are so fond of).  The youngest child in the household lights the first candle, and then everyone sings carols of the light.”
“And there are the gifts of light, of course,” David said.  “In the evening, family and friends gather together and give each other gifts to thank them for the light they bring into their lives.”
“It really is a heartwarming tradition,” Snow concluded.  “So what do you say, Emma?  Do you think we should revive Winter’s Light?”
“Sounds like a great idea to me!”
And it was.  In the years since the tradition had been restored, Winter’s Light slowly became Emma’s favorite holiday, the day of the year she looked forward to every year.
“I suppose you’re right, love,” Killian said, getting to his feet and offering a hand to his wife.  “Your mother would not thank us for keeping them waiting.”
“No she wouldn’t!” Emma laughed.  “Besides, I think there’s snow in the forecast for tonight.  I’d rather get to the farm before that gets all ramped up.”
It was a bit of a smaller gathering for Winter’s Light this year than in times past.  Ever since Anton’s magic bean farm business got off the ground, a lot of the town opted to go back to the Enchanted Forest for Winter’s Light.  Emma and Killian arrived at the Nolan farm just as the first snowflakes began to fly, and were enthusiastically welcomed by Emma’s parents and little brother, Granny, Leroy and Archie.
“Where are the rest of your dwarf brothers?” Emma asked after receiving a cup of Winter’s Light punch from her mother.
Leroy rolled his eyes.  “Had a bit of a falling out this morning,” he said.  “Seems the others decided I was too ‘grumpy’ to spend the holiday with.  Decided to go back to the Enchanted Forest and leave me here.”
“Whatever would give them that notion?” Killian asked in mock surprise.
“Watch it, pirate!  I’ve got my eyes on you!”
“I’m positively quaking in my boots,” Killian assured.
Emma laughed, playfully shoving Killian in the opposite direction.  “You keep antagonizing him, there may be bloodshed.  The look in his eyes…ooh.”
Emma clutched at her belly.
“Swan!  Are you well, love?” Killian asked, moving her gently to the sofa.
She waved him off, breathing deeply.  “It’s fine, babe.  Don’t worry about it.  Just a little contraction.”
“Shall I call Whale?” he asked.  “You’ve been getting your pains more and more frequently all day.”
“No, no, don’t bother him,” Emma said.  “It’s passing now.  Besides, I’m not due for another week.  If I take it easy, I should be fine.”
Killian looked at her skeptically for another moment, before nodding, still looking as though he was not entirely convinced of her statements.
The festivities were well under way when the small group got their first inklings that they might be in trouble.  Not only had the snow picked up, but so had the wind.  Emma glanced out the window to see nothing but unrelenting white.  “Wow, it’s really coming down out there,” she said.  “I can’t see two feet past your porchlight, Dad.  You think one of us should go on patrol to make sure everyone’s weathering the storm alright?”
“Well if one of us does, it’s not going to be you, honey,” David said, giving her a concerned look.  “You’re in no condition to work this close to your due date.  Killian told me you’ve been having contractions all day.  Maybe instead of patrolling the town, we ought to try to get you to the hospital.”
“Killian is an over-protective mother hen,” Emma said.  “He’d have wrapped me in bubble wrap and confined me to bed for the entire pregnancy if he could have.  I’m fine Dad.  There’s nothing to be concerned ab….ooof!”
This time the contraction hit her so hard and fast she doubled over, panting.  She hadn’t remembered pre-labor pains being quite this intense when she had Henry.  Maybe…maybe her husband and her dad had a point.
“Emma!” David shouted, grabbing her arm to keep her upright just as Emma felt a gush of water flow from her.  Okay, they definitely had a point.  If her freaking water had just broken it was time to get to the hospital.  ASAP.
David settled Emma onto the couch, propping up her feet, and then went off in search of Killian.  There was suddenly a whirlwind of activity in the old farm house, as everyone prepared to move the party to the hospital waiting room.
Granny packed away the food and put it in the refrigerator.  Snow grabbed Emma’s spare overnight bag that she’d packed for the hospital.  (Emma had been prepared for any eventuality, packing an overnight back at home and another at her parents’).  David and Killian rushed outside to scrape off the truck and get it ready for maternity transport.  Archie sat with Emma, coaching her through breathing exercises.  
And Leroy ran through the house shouting “The baby!  She’s COMING!!!!!!”
“Hey, can you grab my phone?” Emma asked Archie, panting through the pain of another contraction.  “Need to give Whale the heads up.”
Archie complied, but when Emma turned the phone on…nothing happened.
“Must be the storm,” Granny said.  “Must have knocked out cell service.  I guess we’re just lucky that the electricity hasn’t gone out yet.”
The room was suddenly plunged into darkness.
Leroy glared at Granny.  “You just had to open your big mouth, didn’t you?”
“Don’t panic!” Snow said, making her way into the living room, an arm full of candles and matches in tow.  “It’s Winter’s Light, remember!  I’ve got enough candles to light up this house like the fourth of July.”
“Doesn’t matter anyway,” Emma panted, clutching her middle.  “We’ll be off to the hospital any minute anyway.”
Emma heard the front door open, and then her dad and her husband trudged in looking sober.  “I don’t think any of us are going anywhere tonight,” David said, as Killian began pacing.  “We’ve got a full-blown blizzard going on out there.  Killian and I nearly got lost just going from the front door to the truck.  We try to make our way to town, we just get stranded and risk freezing to death.”
Emma felt a weight in the pit of her stomach that had nothing to do with the contractions that were suddenly coming faster and with more intensity.  “Are you telling me I’m going to have to have this baby here?  Without a doctor?  Or an epidural?”
Killian got to his knees beside the couch and took her hand, looking reassuringly into her eyes.  “Swan, I know this isn’t ideal.  I know this isn’t how we hoped this birth would take place, but you can do this!  We, all of us, will help you.”
Another contraction ripped through her, and she had to bite her lip to keep from yelling out.  Still, Killian’s hand was warm and solid in hers.  Her mother was bustling around, preparing a bed in the spare room to be used as the birthing chamber, and Archie was heading to the kitchen, stating his intention to start boiling water.
“Why the hell would we need boiled water?” Granny asked, rolling up her sleeves and preparing to wade into the fray, as it were.
“I don’t know,” Archie said, “but it’s what people always do in movies when someone goes into labor and they’re not near a hospital.”
It was crazy and chaotic, but somehow Emma found it all comforting, even in the midst of her pain and fear.
“Perhaps we’d best hail Whale on the talking phone?” Killian suggested.
David shook his head.  “’Fraid that won’t help us at this point.  If we can’t get out, Whale won’t be able to get in.”
“Besides,” Granny said, helping Emma to her feet and into the spare room, “it’s Winter’s Light.  I guarantee you Whale’s drunk off his ass.  He wouldn’t be any help to us tonight even if it was a balmy seventy-five degrees.”
“So who exactly is going to deliver my baby?” Emma asked, hearing a touch of hysteria in her own voice.
“Well, I’ve never done it before,” Grumpy said, “but I’ve been around when Doc did it.  I could get up in there and see what’s going on if you need me.”
Killian glared.  “You, dwarf will keep your bloody mitts away from my wife’s nether regions.”
“Well maybe if you’d done the same we wouldn’t be in this situation right now, would we?” Leroy shot back.
“What I do with my wife within the confines of our bedroom is our business, and I will not discuss it…”
“Alright guys, enough,” Granny said, slashing the air.  “Look, I’m a diner owner, not a midwife, but I’ve assisted a delivery or two.  I’ve got this covered.  Now everyone clear out.  Snow and I will help Emma into something more comfortable, and if we need you, we’ll let you know.”
And thus began the longest and most painful night of Emma’s life.  The pains followed one on top of another, washing over her in waves of agony.  “How the hell did you do this without any pain meds when I was born, mom?”
Snow smoothed a cold cloth over her forehead, crooning soothingly to her.  “It wasn’t easy, but I promise you, you’ll get through this.  It’ll all be over soon, and then you’ll have your brand new baby girl in your arms.  Focus on that.  It’ll make the pain a bit more manageable.”
Finally, as the first rays of the sun began to rise, Emma heard the most beautiful words Granny had ever uttered.  “I see the head!  Won’t be long now.  Just a few more good pushes!”
Good thing too.  Emma didn’t think she’d ever been so exhausted.  “Mom, could you get Killian.  He’ll want to be here for his daughter’s birth.”
“Of course, honey,” Snow said, smoothing Emma’s sweaty hair from her forehead and kissing her gently.  “We’ll be back in just a moment.”
Killian had, of course, been by Emma’s side from the first, coaching her, encouraging her, enduring the way she crushed his hand as her contractions hit, apologizing profusely for the pain he was causing her.
“Would you just stop,” Emma finally said after around the fifteenth agonized apology.  “We both wanted this baby, and we were both there when she was conceived.  You aren’t hurting me any more than I’m hurting myself.”
Finally, sometime around three in the morning, Snow had prevailed upon Killian to go get some sleep.  “You’ll be needed when the baby’s born, Killian.  I promise I’ll find you if anything changes, but for right now there’s nothing more you can do.”
Emma breathed through one more contraction as Killian burst through the door, taking his seat at her bedside.  “Swan!  Your mother says it’s nearly time.”
“Yeah,” Emma said, as she felt another contraction ramp up.  “I don’t know if I can do this, Killian.  I’m so tired and it hurts so damn much and it just won’t stop.”
“Listen to me darling,” Killian said, looking deeply into her eyes.  “You can do this!  You’re nearly there, love, and you’ve endured the night beautifully.  You’re bloody brilliant, amazing Swan, and there’s nothing you cannot do.  Just a few more pushes.”
“Hold me,” Emma bit out as Granny instructed her to push.
Killian dutifully sat behind her, holding her in his arms, whispering encouragement and praise.  Despite the pain and exhaustion, Emma felt herself relax and focus.  Killian seemed to be pouring his own strength into her, giving her exactly what she needed.
He always knew how to give her exactly what she needed.  From the first day they’d met.  He was her strength, her anchor, her true love and her joy.  Emma felt the tears gather in her eyes, overwhelmed with the emotion of the moment.  She was about to give birth to a baby who was so very wanted, so very loved, and she was going through the whole process with her husband and her parents at her side.  It was something the lost girl had never before thought she’d have.
Finally, with one last push, Ava made her way into the world.  As soon as her airways had been cleared, she let out a strong, outraged cry, as though displeased to suddenly find herself in this bright, cold, open world. Emma smiled in wonder as the lights flickered and then came back on just as Ava finished her cry.
“Swan,” Killian said in wonder, “it would appear our daughter, the product of our true love, has magic just as strong as her mum’s.”
Emma chuckled tiredly.  “Seems that way, babe.”
After a moment of waiting, Emma collapsed back against Killian as Granny finished bathing the baby and wrapped her securely in a blanket.
“Well,” Emma asked.  “Is she okay, Granny?”
Granny turned around and passed the tiny pink bundle into her mother’s waiting arms.  “She’s more than okay,” Granny said, the emotion evident in her voice.  “She’s perfect.  Absolutely perfect.  Congratulations mom and dad!”
Half an hour later, after Emma and the room had been set to rights and Emma had been tucked comfortably into the spare room bed, she lay within the circle of Killian’s arms, tiny Ava Alice held in her arms.
“Are you happy, Killian?” she asked, smiling up at him.
He reached down and ran one tiny finger gently across little Ava’s silky cheek.  A single tear made its way down his face.  “Swan, happy doesn’t even approach it, nor overjoyed, nor ecstatic.  Look at the miracle we produced between us.  She’s perfect, a tiny wonder, already the light of my life.  Thank you for the best Winter’s Light gift any man could ever be given.”
Careful not to disturb her daughter’s slumber, Emma leaned up and kissed him gently.  “Thank you for giving her to me.  Killian we’re a family now!  The only thing that could have made this moment better is if Henry could be here with us.”
“And he will be again, Swan,” Killian assured.  “One day he’ll find his own happy ending and return.  We’re a family after all, and we always, always will be.”
