fma rareship weekend: day 3, children

written for @fma-rareships's day 3! while intended to be an extension of the recognition 'verse, and therefore olivier x izumi, this one is also for sure olivier & al

“yeah,” al says into the phone, “no, all of the grandparents are here. yes, including olivier, she’s been here for three days. ostensibly, she’s here mostly to keep teacher from crying again, but personally, i think she might actually—oh, no, she heard me.” al covers the microphone with their hand and looks up at one of their newborn daughter’s many grandparents, who is valiantly trying to pretend she’s not tearing up.

“general,” al says, because even they have her permission to use her name now, sometimes it’s hard not to fall back on old habits, “did you think you weren’t—”

“i don’t like children,” she says, wiping her eye with the back of her knuckle.

this is amusing to al, given that yesterday, when she’d been holding zhiying for two uninterrupted hours, she’d audibly growled at anyone who tried to take her. so, they elect to ignore her statement for both their sakes. “you are her g—both mei and i consider you to be one of her grandparents. if… you want to be, that is.”

“alphonse,” olivier says, still pretending like she’s getting out of this, “i am your teacher’s wife.”

unafraid to interrupt her, al says, “are you going to tell me izumi and sig are anything other than…?” it’s a strong tactic. of course, al would rather tell her how much they love her. how she’s been a mentor to them in the last few years, how she inspires them, pushes them, and how they can’t imagine their daughter’s life without her in it. but that’s the kind of thing al knows they have to write in a letter, so she can cry about it in private and stoically thank them later.

olivier narrows her eyes. “of course not.”

“and?”

after staring at them for a while longer, olivier sighs. “no child of yours, no matter how cute, is going to ever call me ‘grandma.’”

al raises an eyebrow.

“but. it would be my honor to accept that role in zhiying’s life.” she pauses, and something like a smile tugs at the corners of her lips. “thank you for asking.”

al is almost positive she's going to cry about this later.

Kuro and Madara both seem like maine coons but Madara(and also Leo ) also give me calico vibes. Kuro also fits the norwegian forest cat.

Himeru is one of those freaky ass lanky oriental cats or a russian blue

Adonis is an egyptian mau or a siamese, Kaoru is an orange, Rei is a regular black cat but with weirdly shiny fur and Kouga is a cat who was raised by pitbulls and will not accept the reality that he’s not a pitbull

Keito is a regular european/domestic shorthair but with a weirdly green tint to it

I would say Mika is a khao manee due to the eyes but he is big eyed dark brown colored LaPerm( the specific image I have in mind is one of the pictures in The Cat Encyclopedia and I’m not even sure if it’s for that breed)

Tori is a munchkin

Digimon Frontier - Episode 3

For this episode I decided to check out the English dub for Frontier. I really enjoyed it! My problem is that the Digimon dubs are more fun and nostalgic to watch, but I'm always really conscious of missing out on lore and emotional beats. Maybe I'll finish the sub and then watch the dub someday when I wanna revisit this.

Notes:

The American OP is hype as heck! I like the tribal vibe with the drums. I think I like the Japanese digivolution music a little better though.

I liked most of the English VAs but Takuya sounds like a 30 year old lol. For some reason, Izumi's Italian outbursts were a lot funnier in English, "Mamma mia!"

I coulda sworn Takuya said he was in the 4th grade in the last episode but now he's in the 5th? In the dub he's in the 6th, so let's just say he's somewhere in the upper elementary range.

I really loved Tomoki's digivolution sequence. I like how his hand movements are a little more childish/cheerful than Takuya or Koji's Also, in the dub I love how he said "EXECUTE" lol. I know they meant like "executing a program" but I was just thinking of the murder version of "execute" hehe.

So I guess Bokomon and Neemon have a boke/tsukkomi dynamic going on. I think they overdid Bokomon's bullying a bit tho

Lol @ the DigiCode fixing one (1) single bridge in this episode whereas in the first episode they fixed like an entire village. I guess some digimon get you better results than others? (Also they said that the bridge "protected them from bad digimon," how does that work?)

So they've established a bunch of times now that there are supposed to be 10 warriors. Betting the cast will expand with some minor characters later.

I just noticed this, but Takuya has a little symbol on his shirt and hat but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a reference to something or it's just a cool graphic.

Speaking of graphics, I finally noticed that the symbols for the spirits are literally just kanji. Like Agnimon's is the kanji for fire, Wolfmon is light, Chackmon is ice...

Uhhh...why is the dub name for Chackmon (Kumamon) way more Japanese sounding? I guess they couldn't have used Kumamon in the sub cuz...

Chackmon is a weird name and even after reading the etymology on the wiki I don't really get it.

These kids are kinda savage. First Bokomon is pleading with them to save his world and they just look annoyed and then when Agnimon is battling all the Candlemon they're just like "wow, he's really trying to fight a fire type? What a dumbass" (paraphrasing) and they walk off (to be fair, Takuya told them to hide, but still!) It was really funny when Bokomon was telling the Candlemon that the kids were there to save the Digital World and Takuya was like "not really" lol.

I'm glad that they were at least given the chance to go home because otherwise it feels a little bit like they're being blackmailed into being heroes (save our world or you'll never see your home again)

I'm sure someone has meme'd on Agnimon being covered in white drippy wax before...I'll refrain.

I feel like we already have too much lore here. First it was Cherubimon was messing up the world and now it's actually Lucemon that was the OG world messer-upper? Now I dunno who the big bad is!

If there are 10 warriors...I wonder what the elements are gonna be. Well I guess Pokemon has managed to come up with a zillion "elements." Is someone gonna end up with "heart?" hahaha

Didn't expect Wizardmon to show up as a baddie-of-the-week. Feels weird.

I kinda like that Koji is taking his sweet time to join the party. We don't need his drama in the friend group.

gonna do some enstars x mlb rambles ┻┳|･ω･)

feel free to keep reading if u want this is definitely self indulgent hehe

So it’s a mostly silly AU nothing too serious: I was just applying mlb charas to enstars units and stuff nothing too crazy. I got really into it when I realized how similar Marinette was to Anzu (who is functionally supposed to be the game’s self-insert but she has so much personality and traits that she shouldn’t be considered one): both take on a lot of responsibilities, both are capable of designing and sewing clothes, and are likely to prioritize others over themselves first (Marinette w/ the city of Paris and Anzu w/ the cast of enstars). So I wanted to have Marinette in the producer position, similar to Anzu in enstars, then have the rest of the mlb cast fill in spots in the multitude of units in the series. I haven’t finalized the units but these were the ones I had so far:

Adrien: Knights -> Trickstar

my first choice was Knights since the show portrays as Adrien as a prince at times yet also working as a knight, which fits Knights’ image of those who serve their princesses (e.g. their fans). Plus Knights has two characters heavily involved with modeling (Izumi and Arashi), aligning with Adrien’s own modeling. But then I thought about it more, and basically he’s gonna be ripping off parts of Makoto’s story: at one point in the ! era main story, Trickstar (the og protag unit) gets disbanded and Makoto is forced to join Knights, but eventually Trickstar reunite despite the order to disband. Plus, Makoto also happened to be a model but doesn’t do it anymore (although for Makoto its due to trauma) which would fit in with Adrien not wanting to model anymore. Also I think Trickstar’s image of “rebellion” would likely fit Adrien more in the end even though the show hardly touches upon this side of him nowadays

Alya: Ryuseitai

this one was kind of easy, as Alya is shown to be a huge fan of superheroes, and while Ryuseitai’s flavor of superheroics don’t align with typical western depictions (taking inspiration from Tokusatsu instead), I still think Alya would fit in w/ the variety of personalities in Ryuseitai. She has a strong sense of justice similar to Chiaki, and can be very highly motivated (even for the wrong reasons) like Tetora. Also cause she’d make a good Ryusei Orange ^_^

Nino: Switch

ahah imma be honest I’m still unsure which unit to place Nino in but I just think he’d vibe with switch’s vibes

Chloe: fine

my brain first jumped to Crazy:B for Chloe cuz of the bee aesthetic but then I realized she’d hate their aesthetic so into fine she goes. I was mostly thinking fine for her because she’d be similar to Tori: an uptight snobbish brat who looks down on people. So like yeah she could be in fine even if its angelic imagery wouldn’t fit her personality wise.

Luka: UNDEAD or Alkaloid

this one was hard because I think Luka would fit well w/ the personalities in UNDEAD, especially the likes of Rei and Adonis... but aesthetically, while the unit uniform would look cool on him, I just don’t think he’d fit the appeal UNDEAD has (basically they appeal to their fans in a seductive and wild way (biggest lie ever but hey it’s what canon says)). It’s just. Not what Luka is. My other choice was Alkaloid, as they’re the other rock-inspired unit, but their aesthetics are military aligned so I’m still stuck.

Kagami: any of the units besides Akatsuki

my personal choice here was Ra*bits just because I think she’d look adorable in their unit uniform. But I wanted to avoid sticking her into Akatsuki because it’d just be falling into stereotypes and I don’t like doing that (although hypothetically she’d get along with Souma but that’s because the two of them are Japanese stereotypes 😔)

Lila: Crazy:B (?)

tbh I was likely going to stick her into Eden alongside Felix, but I did want to spread out the characters throughout different units so here she is. She’d definitely rock their unit uniform and tbh? She does fit somewhat, specifically aligning with the way Rinne lied about his intentions, purposefully acting a certain way in order to rile people up (although Rinne’s intentions were in the end supposed to be good, while Lila’s... not so much)

Felix: Eden

imma be honest I was projecting Ibara real hard onto Felix it’s just... both use underhanded tactics to get what they want, they’re not above acting a certain way to further their plans, just tricky people in general... so yeah into eden felix goes

Juleka: UNDEAD

Rose: Ra*bits

don’t have a lot to say for julerose i just put them in these units cuz it felt right in my head

Maybe I’ll put the rest of the miracuclass into units but I’m still not sure about that... meh it’s just something to tickle my brain for now

Story Title: “Encore: Ginji”

Kamo: Welcome ! Izumi: Thank you for inviting us. Sakyo: Most of the hotels are expensive now. It's a great help for the company to reduce costs. Izumi: ( It's not free unlike when we performed Yin Yang Midnight but we were able to get rooms at a discounted price.) Kamo: I'm going to watch tomorrow's performance. Just looking at the flyer sets my heart aflutter! I'm looking forward to seeing an atmosphere different from Yin Yang Midnight ! Everything Japanese-themed is good after all. I want to take lots of videos ! Azami: Just don't turn it into a yakuza movie. Taichi: But I'd love to see it ! Omi: Same here. Izumi: Please feel free to take video if you have the opportunity. Kamo: Yes ! Please let me take a video by all means !

Sakyo: Well then, you all. Don't be late for tomorrow's performance. Banri: Yeah, yeah. Taichi: Got it !

Sakyo: ...Phew. Juza: Did you take a bath? Sakyo: Yeah, are you reading the script? (His script is worn out. It's a proof that he's taking the performance seriously) Juza: ‘bout time to go to sleep. Izumi begins her first day at as a student teacher at Kasugamine Academy.

“School. It’s not just a learning institution, but a place where youth awaits with many wonderful encounters. ….Today is the first major step to my teaching dreams! It's the start of my work as a student teacher at the private school Kasugamine Academyーー...!”

Izumi: But all of a sudden, I oversleptーーー! Being late to my first day of hands-on teaching would be a huge problem-! Ahh, I don’t even have time to make breakfast!

*she runs out*

Izumi: *munch munch* ….Of course, I gotta have curry bread for breakfast! If I make a dash for it while eating curry bread, I should be able to make it in timeーー!

???: Uwahh!!

Izumi: Kyaa!! Owww…

???: Ouch… Are you all right? I’m sorry. Because I was looking at my phone, I wasn’t looking ahead properly.

Izumi: It’s fine! I’m sorry as well.

???: Ah, you dropped your curry bread.

Izumi: I’m sorry, thank you very much! (Thank goodness! It didn’t touch the ground because it was inside the bag!)

???: Then, I’ll be off.

Izumi: Of course!

Teacher: We will now begin with the school-wide morning assembly.

Izumi: Ah, yes! Understood! (It’s time for the greeting, huh. I’m getting nervous…)

Teacher: Please start us off, Shinbashi-sensei.

Shinbashi: Nice to meet you, everyone! My name is Shinbashi Shin. I believe that coming to this school and meeting everyone will surely beーー

Izumi: (Shinbashi-kun’s greeting really carries his passionate feelings across. I can’t lose, I have to do my best!)

Teacher: Thank you very much, Shinbashi-sensei. Next up, Tachibana-sensei, please.

Izumi: Y-Yes!

Shinbashi: Do your best!

Izumi: Yeah, thanks! I’m Tachibana Izumi, a-and from today onwards, I’ll be working here as a student teacher! The person laughing at me right in front of me is Futami-sensei, the modern Japanese studies teacher. His bangs are so long, I can’t read his expression at all. He’s an enigmatic person.

Futami: Whew…. There’s still some bread crumbs stuck on you.

Izumi: !!

Futami: I’m kidding. ….Shouldn’t you quickly get back in line?

Izumi: Eh….Ah, my apologies! (Messing up my words is my fault, but why is he treating me with that kind of attitude? It feels a little creepy….)

[1] Izumi says “...先生になりたいでしゅっ！……！な、なりたいです……” where she basically bites her tongue and mispronounces it at the end. I translated it this way because I felt like it sounded more natural this way in English.

Mitsuki: A “Furari! Local Train Trip” report huh~!

M: This is amazing, when it says a local train show, people would think of this long-lasting show! I was watching this with my father when I was a kid.

M: “The trip that aimlessly goes around using the local train. What scenery will welcome us today...”

M: “Choo choo!”

Sogo: Amazing, Mitsuki-san. That sounds exactly like the opening narration of the show!

Gaku: You copied the whistle sound too!

M: Hehe! Thank you!

G: It’s not like I put effort into watch it everytime, but when I turn on the TV and it’s there, I somehow watch it.

G: I didn’t quite have any opportunities to ride local trains, so I felt like I was going on a trip by watching this show.

M: Then, this shooting will be quite new huh!

G: Right.

S: This time, the railroad that we will report on is called “Mannnann Tetsudou;” it seems like it’s the northeast line.

S: Seems like we’ll do a report about the autumn scenery from the train and we’ll stop by the stations between this line and the last station.

S: Since it’s the “Right Before The Autumn Leaves Special,” the program will be extended!

G: A train trip in autumn huh. It sounds elegant; I’m a little excited.

G: It’s more like it tickles my heart. Like, autumn food bento in station store.

M: Like a hot spring surrounded by autumn leaves?

S: Or is it like a mountain covered with red leaves.

G: And the local train that runs through that scenery huh!

M: Well, that’s a joke but, I actually rather like fall’s sad feeling!

S: I somehow understand that too. It’s suitable to think about something too.

S: But, if you want to raise your mood, I heard you should warm your body.

M: Heeh. Why?

S: Because the daylight hours are shorter in fall, the hormone called serotonin is produced less and that makes people feel more down; that’s what I heard.

S: Also I heard when temperatures are down, it’s harder to lift the mood.

M: Heeeeeh!

G: You’re knowledgeable huh, Ousaka.

M: But, even when it becomes fall here, it doesn’t feel that way right?

G: Is that so?

M: Maybe it’s after I began at Takanashi Agency and became an IDOLiSH7 member. It’s like I have no time for being sentimental.

M: Being able to stand on stage, sing, dance, appear on TV, and meet various people.

M: More than anything, seeing the member’s faces like Sogo who’s here, that makes the feeling go away!

M: Like, “Let’s do more and more interesting things” and become full of energy.

Oy, these characters are getting more wardrobe changes than they do throughout the whole show.

So, due to symbolic reasons, I need to switch the colors up! @kari-izumi I don’t know if your infinite knowledge from your tours would help, or if possibly anyone else could, but, question: How in/appropriate would it be for a certain eclectic Japanese CEO to travel to his company’s branch in [tentatively: Hong Kong?], for ~whatever~ while wearing red? Like:

If it is okay to do Hong Kong, then I was also thinking a 5-leaf Cloverleaf Chinese knot for a white tie over black dress shirt. Cuz if you regularly closet-cosplay a dragon, why wouldn’t you a flag. Normal for YGO, right?

Izumi Mitsuki (iDOLiSH7) I mean idk what anybody was expecting. I love this boy with all my heart. He’s my reminder to work hard and never give up. I love the manly shotas apparently. I love him being the straight man and also when he dotes on Iori. Plus he’s versatile. Most of the time he’s cute, but sometimes--especially when Tanemura draws him he gets to look really hot and handsome?? He’s super emotional and I adore him for that.

Tenn Kujo (iDOLiSH7) I realized that I went from one boy who feels imperfect/inferior to one who is known for perfection. So uh. Idk what that says about me. Ugh I love Tenn and that’s all I can say about him. I mean look at him. Does anybody remember that pic I posted of him from his photobook with the cats and glasses? Really, that’s all you gotta do to get me. Wear glasses and love cats. BUT TENN IS ALSO SUPER HOT AND COOL SO. I love his little princely devil character.

Natsuki Hanae (seiyuu) If you’ve been around for awhile you know that I love this man. I probs heard him somewhere before, but I know I really started getting into him when I got into B-project (He’s Yuuta). But like...I adore his voice. He can be cute, but also soothing and sexy? Also pervy? Or pervy jokes? Plus he’s a huge dork. He spams his twitter with pics of his derpy cat all the time??? HE PLAYS MONSTER HUNTER. He and his wife are so sweet and she’s potentially as dorky as he is?? Ugh she’s so lucky.

Souma Saito (seiyuu) Well, part of the reason why I love Tenn is because of his voice. So deep and smooth. HOT. He’s cute and fluffy. His hairstyle seems very unique to me?? Idk like you could pick him out of a crowd by his hair. Lmao. I also aspire to be as comfy-looking in my fashion as he does. He’s almost always wearing an oversized sweater it seems like. Also, he’s said that his only exercise is walking from bookstore to bookstore cause he reads so much. Boy is a bookworm and general intellectual and I find that extremely attractive. Akane Fudo (B-Project) TBH I don’t know a whole lot about him since KiLLER KiNG wasn’t featured in the anime and I didn’t stick around for too long to learn much about them in the game. But I love his voice and he’s cute like a monkey. Plus I love guys who clip their hair back. Idk if it’s an actual hobby of his or something he did for a feature but I think he does judo or some sort of martial arts? He’s also apparently a bit of a perv despite his face too. Lmao what’s up with me.

Yuuta Ashu (B-Project) Well...Hanae Natsuki. He’s excitable and tall and is the peacekeeper between Goushi and Kento. There’s also something I really love about the fact that even though he doesn’t seem particularly interested and is cutesy he understands “adult” topics. I mean especially since he’s dealing with Kento.

Goushi Kaneshiro (B-Project) I’m still hella surprised that Kento got away with taking this picture. But uh. I guess outside of the cutesy characters Goushi is my fave. The tsundere. And I love the fact that he’s so serious about his music. Also, he puts up with Kento and Yuuta’s antics. Just THRIVE. I love THRIVE.

Syo Kurusu (UtaPri) Like I said earlier, manly shotas. Hiro Shimono’s voice is one of my faves. Plus Syo is blond, fashionable, and wears a lot of pink. All faves. I would really like to play the UtaPri games and learn his story at some point.

Alm (Fire Emblem: Echoes) HELLO AGAIN IT’S HANAE NATSUKI. I didn’t know that was his Japanese VA when I decided I love this boy. It just made me love him more. Can’t remember his story too much right now, but I just remember loving how down-to-Earth he was and how he brought all his friends together. Plus I adored the fact that he’s not oblivious. Tho it’s hard to be oblivious with the level of Faye’s thirst orz. Like in most cases when you have an obvious crush like that a lot of male characters just don’t get it, but Alm acknowledges it and knows how to reject her kindly but firmly.

Zac Efron (actor) I guess there had to be one American on here somewhere. He’s hot. And he has a nice butt. It’s mostly about his butt tbh.

Would anyone else read this?

Contemplating writing a Harry Potter/Digimon Adventure 01 crossover AU where Harry Potter and Koushiro “Izzy (since you Brits have trouble pronouncing my name)” Izumi are brothers, only problem is that only a select handful of people knew the Potters had twins, let alone that James had a distant cousin in Japan to ship the other child off to.

I don’t need to be starting another fic when I have so many unfinished, but I just keep seeing our lovely young heroes, fresh out of the Digital World, getting invited to both Hogwarts and Mahotokuro and deciding as a group (well, most of a group, since Hikari and Takeru aren’t old enough for magic school yet) that why the heck not, let’s do this UK thing together ‘cuz we ain’t splitting the party up again. It’s a learning opportunity, Jyou says, and they can all transfer back to Japan if they don’t like it this year.

And when the Embassy rep and Professor Flitwick take them shopping for supplies, there’s this waif of a boy in Diagon Alley and Sora and Mimi decide “he needs help”. And before Harry knows what’s going on, the whirlwind that is Love and Sincerity on a Mission has swept him up, bought him two quills, a bag of pencils and cheap pens and couple muggle spiral notebooks (”Oh, it’s so much easier to keep track of your schoolwork this way! And soon enough Koushiro and Jyou will have that pesky technology thing fixed so we can type and print our essays like real people!”). Harry’s overwhelmed but also so stinking excited because he’s never had friends and the only other Japanese-English students at his old school were too scared of Dudley to even talk to him. So having not one but six other kids who look like him (and in Taichi’s case, have even wilder hair) is a little slice of heaven.

But at the end of the day, all Koushiro can think about is how much this slip of a boy looks like the picture of the man his parents tell him was his birth-father at that age. The man with the big brain who didn’t need to study to pass classes and drove his classmates up the wall about it. He writes home to ask...and gets more questions than answers but that’s okay. He has friends who would beg, steal, cheat, and bash skulls in (”No, Taichi, we don’t need to give the little pureblood a black eye. He’d look terrible in an eyepatch.” “Would he look better in a blindfold?”) to help him and Harry unravel the mystery.

Naturally, there’s still the whole Philosopher’s stone mess, but at least Jyou and his ever-present first-aid kit are there to patch everyone up. And hey, we got the internet working! Who needs an owl, cat, or toad when you can have your own partner Digimon instead?

Shop Owner: “Are you up for it?”

“Today, we’ve got a boy who’s experienced official game tournament matches, undeafeated, participating!”

Citron: Ohh, it looks like there’s a champagne [1] participating in the game tournament too.

Tsuzuru: You mean, “champion”ー Wait, seriously!?

Sakuya: I-Is that true!?

Tsuzuru: Are you gonna be okay, Itaru-san….?

Itaru: Well, keep watching. With the power of the Kuudo on my side, there’s no way I can lose.

Masumi: Is Itaru using the swordsman?

Izumi: Yes, looks like it.

Chikage: And the one his child opponent’s using is Roger, the character Chigasaki was talking about earlier.

Tsuzuru: The Kuudo’s weapon is a katana, while his opponent’s weapon is a gun. You’d expect him to be at a disadvantage since he brought a sword to a gun fight, though...

Itaru: …..Whoops.

Young Opponent: “Haah!”

Itaru: Too easy.

Izumi: His attack and defense is amazing….!

Chikage: They’re neck and neck.

Sakuya: You can do it, Itaru-san!

Citron: Finish him, Itaru!

Young Opponent: “Hmph! This is THE END!”

Itaru: Don’t look down on me, you shitty little brat.

Game Announcer: ーーYOU WIN!

Itaru: Hell yeah!

Citron: You did it! Itaru won!

Izumi: Amazing….!

Young Opponent: “Dammit! What’s with that technique!”

Itaru: The Kuudo’s grab-to-killing blow-from-behind combo. You can’t escape the chain sequence.

“But you were pretty strong yourself. It was a good battle. Thanks.”

Itaru: Are you seeing me in a new light?

Chikage: As if. I meant that otaku are scary.

Tsuzuru: Well, we can say this or that, but it was pretty entertaining.

Sakuya: There were so many different kinds of merchandise! It was interesting!

Citron: I bought some comics! Let’s all read it together when we get back~

Izumi: Congrats on winning the tournament, Itaru-san. I’m glad you were able to get the figure you wanted too!

Itaru: Ahh, um….I guess.

Izumi: ?

Itaru: Here, Director-san. I’m giving you this.

Izumi: Eh? This is the bag you got earlier for winning the tournament.

…..It’s the mini-figure I said I wanted!

Itaru: Actually, I thought I’d buy it and give it to you since you wanted it that much, but knowing you, you’d absolutely refuse it.

But if I just won it, then it should be fine, right.

Izumi: But, Itaru-san… You really wanted that one game figure, though….

Itaru: Yeah, but it’s fine cuz I can always buy the things I want myself.

Izumi: When did you… Wait, so which one did you end up buying?

Izumi: T-That’s the power of money for you…

Itaru: Well, we work in order to use it for our hobbies, right? An adult should be allowed to buy this, at the very least.
