An easy activity to plan/execute for Littles who believe in Santa
I covered for a coworker at last year's winter festival at our elementary school and the craft she had was genius.
What you'll need:
A bag of plain instant oatmeal (uncooked!)
A large bowl for the oatmeal
1 or more baking scoopers
Glitter of as many colours as you'd like
A ziplock bag
What to do:
Give each participatting kid a ziplock bag. They then scoop some oats and sprinkle glitter on it.
What did you just make?
Reindeer food! :D
You sprinkle it outside your house the night before Christmas so they have a tasty snack to eat while Santa delivers human goodies. (plus the glitter helps tell them where to land like an airplane runway). :)
I had a couple kids worry about whether it was safe for reindeer to eat glitter and my response was that this was special reindeer-safe glitter (we checked!). It's not safe for humans but for reindeer it's fine; kind of like dog biscuits.
They seemed to find my explanation pretty legit and solidly logical.

Paper Puppet Doll Prototype
I’ve been playing around with crafts and such for the past year and now I’m working on paper puppet dolls. This is still a prototype, but I’m almost there! I’d like to add it as a download to my shop (instructions would be included). Would anyone be interested?

changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.
I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.
Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.
No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.
But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?

Benefits of Crafts for Kids
Tumblr media
Arts and crafts for kids have recently experienced a surge in popularity, due to the array of advantages they present to children. Encouraging children to be creative helps them learn to express themselves freely in a way they may not be used to.   Activities like drawing, colouring in or creating a craft project can bring about a feeling of success and give them a sense of purpose.
Additionally, these activities will boost their confidence while keeping them occupied and learning the importance of finishing a project. Moreover, they offer children an opportunity to improve upon essential skills such as problem-solving abilities, punctuality and concentration. Moreover, this could open doors to numerous job opportunities in areas such as photography, journalism or marketing; no doubt contributing towards the rising popularity of arts and crafts for kids.
Arts and crafts for children is becoming a popular activity for children.  Parents understand the importance of having less screen time and craft activities is the perfect antidote to screens.
Being creative provides numerous benefits for children as they grow. They can become open-minded individuals, better equipped to tackle problems, and enjoy improved mental health. Moreover, these skills allow them to explore and express their individuality, aiding in their individual growth and wellbeing.
There is an abundance of craft ideas for kids out there, from craft kits, t-shirt painting kits, paper craft kits, colouring in activities and sewing kits. Not only will these activities keep children amused for hours on end, but they'll also help them develop problem solving skills and their concentration. - an essential part of creating well-rounded adults.
Children’s craft activities are a great way to spend time as a family. Crafting will stimulate communication and keep children from becoming bored by challenging them to accomplish a project. This can give kids a sense of purpose and create something beautiful to be displayed in the home or presented to others, which can help build their self-confidence at an early age. Developing assurance and having positive self-esteem will equip them with the necessary skills to face life's difficulties.
Furthermore, arts and crafts promote the development of patience and concentration in children. It requires dedication to complete a craft project, thus arming them with the ability to finish what they have started.
When they complete their artwork or craft project, it will give them a feeling of fulfilment that hard work brings rewards.
This skill can will be useful for when children are at school completing assessments or exams.
Creativity can unlock a range of opportunities, particularly in the fields of interior design, graphic design, web design, acting, marketing & advertising, architecture, fashion design, photography & video and journalism. Those who have the capacity to think innovatively can find themselves well-positioned to work in these industries.
In summary, it's clear why parents, schools, and educators all seek to provide children with access to arts and crafts. From painting a t-shirt to drawing or colouring in, engaging in these activities helps youngsters become confident and self-expressive, while aiding them in planning ahead and controlling their own actions.
