I don't understand people that claim Aang is weak or a coward because he didn't kill Ozai. In fact, I think I that him deciding not to commit murder would make him the exact opposite. As someone who does consider themselves weak and cowardly, I would have agreed to kill Ozai had I been pressured to do so.

exactly !!! fucking SAY THAT. aang choosing the values of his people over a world that insists that his people were weak and deserved to die, that their values have no place here, in a world that seemingly necessitates a "kill or be killed" mindset, IS his strength. he faces down his closest friends, his past lives (including an air nomad!), and does eventually agree that he has no choice, that he must kill the firelord, there is no other way to end the war. but then, the lion turtle, who rose out of the depths of the ocean, summoned from an ancient time before the avatar even existed, because it heard aang's call to the spirits for guidance, agrees with him, that there is another way, that aang's people were right to value spirits over dangerous, destructive power. and when he faces down ozai, when he sees the man who wants to exterminate him, a child, for his supposed "weakness," he does not let his own infinite power get the better of him. he controls the full force of the avatar, of his past lives who tell him otherwise. "even with all the power in the world, you're still weak," ozai tells him, but that level of self-control is what makes him strong. the fact that he would rather stay true to himself and represent the people who had no place in ozai's world is what true power looks like. he is the purifying light to ozai's cruel destruction. if he had killed ozai, he might have made ozai a martyr to the fire nation, but instead he simply sheds ozai of his weapon of mass destruction, and proves to him, on the hundred year anniversary of the day the fire nation committed genocide against his people, that his cultural values matter, that he still has a place in this world and the spirits have a place in this world. with all the power at his disposal at the avatar, killing ozai would have been the easy thing to do. but he uses meditation and pacifism to come to his own conclusion. he is strong enough to break the cycle of violence.

a small thing about canon warriors that really rubs me the wrong way is how much play is demonized for literally no reason? there are just. so many scenes where the pov character bats something around and is immediately shamed for it by another character. or they stop as soon as they realize what they’re doing and go “ugh that was so EMBARRASSING i hope nobody saw”

the weirdest example happens in graystripe’s adventure when he chases a butterfly for 0.2 seconds and then is like “oh no being a kittypet is making me act like a kit!1!” as if play behavior is exclusive to kittens and that housecats are only playful because they’re undisciplined and soft or whatever.

realism is usually a non-issue when it comes to canon warriors, but these cats are shown to have intrinsic play/hunting instincts, yet they’re shunned and infantilized by clan culture as well as the narrative. it just makes me really uncomfortable, especially as an autistic person. there is no reason why it needs to be a part of this series, all it does is make clan culture feel that much more joyless and dystopian.

I agree, it IS weird. Graystripe should have followed the butterfly hoping it would lead him home like Moth Flight, and then when it lands on a flower he calls it a slur

Hyperbole of a point being; Clan culture should have a ton of problems, but very particular problems. It's xenophobic, battle-obsessed, ableist, and insular. Its religion is powerful, but can also be used oppressively.

As it is canonically, there's almost NOTHING good about this little society, it's miserable.

They shouldn't HATE playing and have absolutely no downtime. It's brutal and limits the story; the characters can't just hang out. They can't just get to know each other. They can't be alone with their thoughts. It's beyond dystopian.

Anyway it's something I intentionally set out to fix with my Clan Culture expansions lmao. They have games. They throw celebrations. They nap and hang out and watch butterflies. There's still a ton of problems and they value the concept of hard work, but there IS downtime.

(I think people that are more well off should be more considerate towards the people that are not. That was what I was trying to say in my posts) I was just stunned by that video and the fact that people brought eat the rich up and started fighting within the fandom just for the sake of fighting. In other words, I'm pretty much convinced that the reason Pharma is remembered as "the evil cowardly doctor that murdered innocents to save his own skin" instead of "the Autobot that got mindbroken by Tarn into thinking that making a plague and killing everyone was his only way to escape" is because he got introduced before the DJD were established as a pants-shittingly evil and sadistic group of freaks, and unlike Rodimus' crew he didn't have the luxury of being a main character whose thoughts and experiences were shown on screen. Pretty much his reputation as "crazy token evil Autobot" was sealed from MTMTE #5 and by the time MTMTE #50-something brought Dying of the Light, Pharma was a footnote in the story and never got to have this new information about the terror of the DJD factored into his own character.

🔥 Kumatora!

Kumatora is so much deeper than she gets credit for. I've made a bunch of analysis posts on her before, apologies to folks who've read all those already, but I'll do a lightning round here. She is the youngest survivor of an apocalypse she'll never remember. She grew up raised amongst gender-nonconforming folks, then had feminine gender conformity suddenly thrust upon her - and hated every second of it. She was given a fabricated "princess" legacy, which she seems to feel she never lived up to anyways. She's both very tough and surprisingly sensitive - the former might even be a front to conceal the latter. She [ definitely ] knew the Masked Man was Claus, and chose not to say anything. She fights on knowing she's gonna lose her whole family, and that she's a part of making it happen. She's got no time to grieve, and she damn well knows it, in stark contrast to Lucas' relationship with loss. M3's writing follows up on very few of these threads, sure. But like! Man, there is so much going on with her!! The amount of stuff that goes unnoticed & unexplored with Kumatora (by both the game itself & the fandom) makes me go hog wild. Fascinating beautiful complex and excellent character. One of the very best in the series.

Bonus: She is definitely a teenager. Idk if this is an unpopular take or not, but I do see a lotta folks assume she's in her 20s during the game. Kid's sprite grows taller after the timeskip, other characters treat her like she's young, she acts like it too. There is no doubt in my mind she's like 16, 18 at the oldest. So when folks portray her as a full-fledged adult within the game's timeframe I'm always like ?? huhhh

It's genuinely disturbing that people feel comfortable calling others "nazis" because they like characters in a way they don't find personally acceptable. Especially when they think that people calling them out are wrong because a post being "tagged properly" is apparently a free pass to say whatever (their post not even being tagged correctly is a perfect summation of their idiocy). The level of brain rot is unbelievable. People are acting like this over fictional characters because they're that desperate to "win" arguments in fandom. It is truly the mark of people who aren't intelligent enough to make an actual point. I suppose that's how they landed on the logic that blocking everyone who disagrees with them and preserving their echo chamber makes them correct.
