Papa Meowth Pokemon Teams: Kanto/Orange Islands Edition

I said I'd do it. I'm lumping in the Orange Islands because there's very few catches there, either in canon or in the AU. There's a couple that are minor spoilers for the changes I'm making to the Movies, but they're pretty minor changes, especially in comparison to Johto where thing's really start going off the rails, so it's no big deal.

I'll briefly when and how a Pokemon gets caught or evolves if it significantly deviates from canon (so all the new guys obviously)

Ash

Pikachu (naturally)

Catterpie>Metapod>Butterfree (thanks to being able to study Maria's teleportation abilities, Professor Oak was able to create portable Pokeball Transfer Devises more advanced than canon's "only 6 Pokemon" teleporters, so Butterfree can be On Call even while traveling with the flock. Because fuck Season 1's "all the strong Pokemon are released or disobedient" policy)

Pidgeotto>Pidgeot

Oddish (Gets caught via a battle a little after they leave AJ (that guy with the Sandshrew from Path to the Pokemon League). As much as she likes the group, the chaos that follows them everywhere is ultimately too overwhelming for her and she willingly gets traded at the St. Anne trainer cruise before everything goes pear-shaped. she does give a good showing at Vermilion Gym as a nice sendoff though.)

Bulbasaur

Charmander>Charmeleon>Charizard (Thanks to Ash being able to understand Pokemon, they're able to work out their issues a lot sooner)

Krabby>Kingler (Since he's Ash's only water type until Totodile in this timeline, he gets used sooner and more often than in canon so he evolves during the group's visit to Lavender Town (which once again uses the Marowak game story instead of "Ash Fucking Dies And It's Played For Laughs))

Hatenna>Hattrem>Haterene (the Pokemon that Oddish got traded for. She's very atypical for a Hatenna and actually likes how loud and energetic is. She evolves during the battle with Erica (Ash doesn't get banned in this timeline but does still dress as Ashley. According to Maria and Meowth it's apparently just a thing he does sometimes) and into Haterene during Power of One. She mainly fights by unfurling her hair and turning it into various constructs, helped by using Growth to give herself more material to work with, alongside a frankly absurd level of Move variety)

Cubone>Marowak (The Pokemon Tower Cubone. Evolves during the Indigo Conference while facing a Cubone belonging to Ritchie, who also evolves during that match)

Muk

15 Tauros

Doduo (caught in the Safari Zone)

Venomoth (Also Safari Zone)

Snorlax

Not a Pokemon, but Ash is also given a Pidgeotite and Keystone by Slowking as thanks for his help in Power of One. And he can actually make use of them since Pidgeot both has the same setup as Butterfree and even if she didn't she lives basically right next door to Pallet Town.

Clefairy>Clefable (the martial arts obsessed one. Asks to join after the Mt. Moon incident and Maria buys Moon Stones for her and another of her Pokemon at the League)

Squirtle>Wartortle (evolves during the Gringey City incident)

Voltorb>Electrode (caught either a little before or a little after Surge's Gym battle. Evolves while battling the Rockets during Beauty and the Beach)

Hitmonlee (due to Primeape being a Team Rocket Pokemon, The Punchy Pokemon goes pretty differently, with Maria entering Clefairy (who sets a personal challenge to not use any Fairy Type moves), Team Rocket entering Primeape (more like Primeape enters himself and dares Jessie to argue) and Gary showing up and entering his Wartortle. Clefairy ends up winning and a wild Hitmonlee begs to become her pupil after being awestuck by her skill)

Dratini (not the one the Safari Zone guy is friends with)

Nidorino>Nidoking (Safari Zone. He's the other Moon Stone evolution at the League)

Magmar (so I was misremembering when I said that both Ash and Maria got two non-Tauros Pokemon at the SZ. Maria got three)

Also Tracy finds a Mega Stone during The Underground Round Up and gives it to Maria because he guesses that it's probably to do with Electrode given they're in Voltorb/Electrode Territory and she's the one who actually has an Electrode. Professor Oak ends up confirming that it is in fact Electrodite, the first to be discovered in fact, and gives her a Keystone so she can make use of it (and so he can study what exactly a Mega Electrode is like). Yes, I'm including my own Fanmade Megas. That's the least of the Made Up Shit I'll be adding quite frankly.

Personality is heavily inspired by Bill Cypher, but significantly toned down both due to not being nearly as powerful and me needing him to fit with the rest of the TRio morality-wise)

Magikarp>Gyarados (does not mess this up in this timeline and manages to actually keep it, as I mentioned in the Magikarp Salesman post.)

Growlie (Growlithe>Arcanine) (I am not leaving him with James's horrible parents. Somebody in the group happened to have a Fire Stone for whatever reason and the whole group uses it to evolve Growlie, blow a hole through a wall, and ride him into the sunset)

Weepinbell>Victreebel

Lileep (was apparently mixed in with all the dormant Kabuto in Shell Shocked and James catches it while the island falls apart)

Also Sir Laurence's Airship in Power of One is more-or-less intact after the fact and the TRio somehow manage to steal it with plans to turn it into a mobile base.

Tracey

The only real difference is that they evolve Scyther into Scizor to counteract his old age.

Timmy Turner

...Okay let me explain.

You know how I keep mentioning the whole thing with Squirtle Abilities getting scrambled as a side-effect of the space-time continuum nearly collapsing? That wasn't the only side effect. There's also cracks still present in it that are leaking Information and Energy and Spirit into the Pokemon universe, which is the damage that Arceus has been working to fix ever since the incident happened. They don't mind the stuff that's coming through the cracks, but the cracks themselves are absolutely a problem. This is entirely an excuse for crossover characters like Bill!Magnemite and Timmy.

In terms of who Timmy is in this universe, he's a trainer who started a couple months before Ash, and is working towards becoming Kanto's very first Fairy-Type Gym Leader. He's a reoccurring character, but not part of the main group. They first meet him during the Mt. Moon Incident.

Now on to his Pokemon:

Cosmo (Ralts>Kirlia) (Timmy's Starter. Revealed to have evolved during Mewtwo Strikes Back (he's there because one of his friends has a Venusaur and was invited) He's just as overpowered and dumb as you'd expect.)

Wanda (Jigglypuff>Wigglytuff) (Caught before Timmy's debut. revealed to have evolved during The Ninja Poke-Showdown because his friend with the Venusaur (I'm probably gonna go with Tootie) is a student at Koga's Gym)

Brick (Clefairy>Clefable) (Caught at the same time as Maria's Clefairy. Revealed to have evolved during Clefairy Tales)

Trample (Tauros) (Caught at some point before The Flame Pokemon-athon)

Slappy (Mr. Mime) (Revealed during Mewtwo Strikes Back)

Douglas (Galarian Weezing) (Revealed during MSB)

Bitsy (Drapion) (Also MSB)

I, from all people, made a fakemon!? It’s more likely than you think!

I actually wanted to make one since I was 8, and now, I finally did it... Rambles under the cut because I actually like them that much-

Veerz, the Invader Pokémon, is a giant, mythical pokémon said to have emerged from the deepest corners of space. Their slim and sturdy spaceship-like body is made out of a flexible and extremely rare metal called "Varadium", which is known to be a highly dangerous conductor of electricity, and in the worst cases, gravity. It is theorized by that last part that, that is what gives them the ability to fly at abnormal speeds. Almost nothing is known about Veerz, thanks to their elusiveness in the wild and the extremely high speeds they can reach. It is believed that they can reach the speed of light, and that allows them to transport in the blink of an eye to wherever they want to be. The only thing known about Veerz are their typing, which consists of Steel/Dark, their looks, pieced together by blurry photographs taken, and their extremely hostile nature. They aren't called the Invader pokémon for nothing. Veerz is known, from extremely old scrolls and cave paintings, to have exterminated entire civilizations in the blink of an eye. It is believed that they were the cause for the dissapearance of the ancient civilizations of myths, like Atlantis, and even managed to destroy entire alien races. Whether that is true or not, has never been documented, but given their fatality rate, it isn't an entirely disprovable claim. It is also, HIGHLY speculated, than Veerz can travel to other universes by breaking the speed of light. So far, the only confirmed speculation of Veerz, it that in it's past, they might have been an aquatic species that somehow found a way to evolve to reach space and withstand the crushing pressure of the cosmos without the help of any type of crafts. This also explains their high, if not alarming, human-like intelligence. Veerz are also known for their marked sexual dimorphism, where the females can grow to almost 5 meters of height (with a 10 meter wingspan), and the males are relatively small, barely reaching 3 meters in height (and a 5 meter wingspan). The only similarity between the two, it's their larval stage, and their iredescent coloration. It has also been documented that females tend to be calmer than males, however, one wrong move and they'll become just, if not more agressive than their smaller counterparts. An unique trait of the Veerz is their ability called "Assimilation", as the name suggest, Veerz can gain, (or temporarily replace their dark type in the case of the males), with a new type extracted from other pokémon. Thus making them the first pokémon recorded with a third typing. Using their hatchet-like wings, they will swoop down on any unsuspecting prey, and cut them in half to posteriorly eat them and gain their base type. This can also be noted as the only instance of Veerz actually eating, since they do not seem have the need to eat in a regular base. As noted, a Veerz's body is extremely sharp. Cutting down rock and diamond like a knife going trough butter. This, coupled with the Varadium's conductive element and their speed, make them very dangerous to handle. It can also be said that no one has ever managed to capture a Veerz, as regular, or enhanced, pokéballs can easily be broken by them before you even have time to react. Yaldurge - Omega Pokemon - dark/dragon A shapeshifting beast from another dimension, it is said to be an eternal rival to the legendary Pokemon Arceus and takes on a form resembling it as a form of mockery. No one knows what its true form is, but whatever that is may be incomprehensibly powerful. / There are some who believe that Yaldurge is the one that formed the egg Arceus is said to have emerged from, making it the true creator of everything in belief systems centered around the Alpha Pokemon. Others posit that it was Arceus’s first living creation that was imbued with too much power for it to handle.

And here we have the final Pokemon of the Cantessy Pokedex. And you all thought Giratina was the "bad" one related to Arceus.

It seems that a lot of big Fakemon projects I've seen ended up making a reference to some sort of element from the Abrahamic religions. Lockstin's Kaskade project references the four horsemen of revelations, iirc HoopsandHipHop's Pokemon Cardinal series had the titular cardinal-based Pokemon based on something from it, and Truegreen7's Asone project has a lot given that it's based around locations in the middle east. I had initially wanted to avoid it, as I try to avoid adding religious references to my stuff when it doesn't fit, and I don't feel a lot of Pokemon justifies getting religious. (Is it my atheism speaking here or just decades of bitterness toward anti-Pokemon fundie christians? Who knows?) But then I was rewatching some videos and two completely different concepts clicked with me. First was extrabiblical texts and the concepts that were thrown out of the "main" bible utilized in modern christianity. The specific text inspiring Yaldurge was the gospel of Judas, which details a completely different understanding of the cosmos than other parts of the bible, especially mentioning the “real” god that fathered jesus, Yaldabaoth. The second major element that inspired Yaldurge's creation is more fitting for Cantessy as a location and its role in the postgame story. Hell, it's the reason there's even a specific postgame location at all, at least in the state you'll find it.

Y'all ever heard of a little slice of nonsense called the Creation "Museum"? How about its sister attraction, the Ark Encounter? Maybe the people responsible for this stain on my state, Ken Ham and his Answers In Genesis organization? So yeah, if you were fortunate enough to not already know, this young-earth creationist group managed to con the town of Petersburg, Kentucky into allowing them to build a museum dedicated to the biblical creation story and taking a dump all over all the scientific evidence for an old earth and evolution. Y'know, the thing we know is Actually True and Clearly Proven. I'm an ape, you're an ape, we're all the best damn apes yet, and yet people like these morons insist on pretending otherwise because idk their dumbdumb god "said" so via their dumbdumb book. So since this place is basically draining Petersburg dry and destroying the town metaphorically, which I'm assuming is also happening in Williamstown where the Ark Encounter is, I decided to make it literal in Cantessy. Petersburg...Boone County...Boonesburg... A "museum" dedicated to the religion of Arceus was set up in Boonesburg, and one day curator Vincent Dunham (the in-universe equivalent to Ken Ham) tried to summon the actual Arceus for a new attraction called the Arceus Encounter. Unfortunately for the remaining residents of Boonesburg, they got it wrong. They ended up summoning something just as powerful but much, much worse. Yaldurge basically razed Boonesburg to the ground, taking out Dunham, his staff, and the town's remaining residents in its sinister destruction. Flash forward to present day, and now someone is trying to bring that power under control for his own sinister intentions...

In short, due to his real-world damage to kids' ability to learn actual science and giving fundie parents ammo to strengthen their indoctrination tactics among other disgusting things AiG has participated in, KEN HAM AND HIS ILK CAN EAT! MY! ENTIRE! ASS!! WITH CANE'S SAUCE!!! ...sorry for the rant, I got a bit carried away. What can I say, spite can fuel some powerful art.

I'm not quite finished with Cantessy, but I will be taking a bit of a break before bringing out the Battle Peak trainers. Oh, I haven’t really discussed the Battle Peak outside of those refs I posted roughly this time last year, have I? It's your Battle Tower equivalent for Plow and Circuit, and it's got exclusive Trainers coming in from across the world to show off their skills! No one from the Scarlet/Violet region though, but considering that wasn't announced until a month or so ago and we don't even know anything concrete about the region aside from it most likely being based on Spain and surrounding locations (which iirc is called the Iberian Peninsula? feel free to correct me if you're better at geopolitical designations cuz I'm teeerrrrible at iiiit) that would be a given.

Nuzlocke Shield Final Part

Part Six

Time to get the road to Challenge Cup finished. Of course, gotta have another cut scene with Hop to slow everything down again. I turned major cut scenes off so I can skip all the train boringness and get right to the snowy Route 10.

Let's get the encounter out of the way, and it's everyone's favourite bug Snom

Snocaine - Snom (m) Shield Dust Brave (Spd up / Atk down) “It likes to fight!”

I don’t have the will or inclination to get Snom's happiness up to evolve it at this point in the game, so it's going into a box until I can sell it off to a drug lord.

This route is so short and so boring.

Wyndon is awesome, but like all the cities and towns before it, it's so EMPTY. There's only a handful of buildings you can go in and one or two streets. In Pokemon games gone you could go into every house, but there's just nothing of interest here. A giant pokemart would not go amiss.

Changed my hair. Gotta look flash for the championship.

Vs Marnie

Marnie was easy, even though her Toxicroak went for a Swagger and Sucker Punch combo that nearly knocked out Cyanide.

Point of interest, you can leave via the lift in between matches. And you can also set up a camp. Why? Who knows. Programming oversight no doubt.

Vs Hop

Hop is still as annoying as ever, “I knew you'd use a super effective attack!” Well no shit Sherlock, it's only the fundamental basics of Pokemon battling.

Fucking Body Slam Dubwool paralysis hax!

And a Full Restore, the dirty fucker. Two can play at that game.

I swear to god, he paralysed me as soon as I cured it. At least he's causing Stamina to increase the damage of Body Press, his ultimate downfall.

Snorlax eats a Body Press and went down in one. So does Corviknight. Pincurchin and Earthquake don’t mix. Now I’m past the cheating Dubwool, I’m not even getting paralysed. That said, I swap out Bullseye for Pina Colada to face his Inteleon. God I hate Inteleon's design. I hate all the final start forms.

Dancing Pineapple Kappa 1 - 0 Skinny Emo Gecko

Ugh. Bring back the Elite Four. All this running around mini Team Yell guess who nonsense takes you away from the drama of the final challenge. Just. So. Many. Cut. Scenes. To. Stop. And. Button. Mash. Through!

Also, why does the game just suddenly drop the name Macro Cosmo out of nowhere? It's never mentioned in any dialogue yet we're expected to know it's the name of Rose's company? I guess it's meant to invoke the feeling of an evil team name, since Team Yell have suddenly joined you and there's now a protagonist shaped hole in the game.

“Security footage released by Macro Cosmo show champion semi finalists James and Hop causing chaos with recently eliminated challenger Marnie and brother Piers whilst accompanied by known trouble makers Team Yell. After causing a stampede that endangered the lives of many at the monorail station, the two stormed Rose Tower for no apparent reason. Because of this outlandish and un-sportsmanship behaviour, the two have been disqualified from the championship and black listed from ever taking part in the future. Up next... Curry. Can we find anything else to eat?”

Anyway. The tower and Oleana are nothing to worry about.

I really wish I could have found a better Ice TM or TR than Icy Wind before going into the final battle. None of the Watt Traders have Ice beam and there's not a single Ice type raid battle going on anywhere.

Bede was a push over, as usual.

Why do they have this cool tournament set up, but never randomise it? It's always Nessa, Alistair/Bea and Raihan. Never anyone else. Just once I'd like to re-battle a full team from Milo or Kabu. I know you have a chance to do it in rematches post game, but by that point your so highly levelled that’s there's absolutely zero challenge. Mini rant over.

Vs Nessa

Spritz drops a Sticky Web to slow Nessa's Pokemon down then systematically obliterates each one with a thunderbolt.

Vs Alistair - Chamomile endures a hit which triggers Weak Armor, gets off a Nasty Plot and with a Full Restore in the mix gets rid of all the pesky ghosts. I was a little worried, as I don’t have any Pokemon that resist ghost attacks but it turned out fine in the end.

Vs Raihan

Bullseye weathers a super effective Muddy Water from Goodra, then just like his team mates defeats everything with single attacks.

So glad I turned cut scenes off.

Mum is outside your house like “Ok sweetie, you and your friend go into the dangerous woods to search for an ancient Pokémon and then go stop the leader of the country from restarting the apocalypse. Do you want some cookies? You're such a strong Pokemon trainer.” No wonder all the kids are missing parents it's a wonder anyone survives.

There's meant to be a giant black cloud over Hammerlocke, but I flew in and whilst the music has changed, nothing else has. It's dark in the middle of the day, but all the people are still standing around chatting shit. I guess the developers thought everyone would go straight into the Weald instead of doubling back. Poor show.

I get an encounter in the Slumbering Weald, and first off it's a Corviknight. Been so long since I encountered this line, but it's still a dupe. Then I KO'd a Munna. I really don’t think it matters anymore, I only have two major battles to go before the end of the game.

Cut scene. Run forward a bit. Cut scene. Run forward a bit. Cut scene. Run forward a bit. Still need my hand held at this point in the game. Frankly I’m surprise Hop doesn’t decide he wants another battle at this point.

“We've evacuated Hammerlocke. Except the people inside their houses, they have chosen to stay. Something about trusting their chairman no matter what he does. Spooky huh?”

Cut scene. Run forward a bit. Cut scene.

Vs Rose - Otis. Fire attacks.

Cut scene. Run forward. Cut scene. Run forward. Cut scene. There is just NO let up.

Did the undefeated Champion just try to catch a resurrected legendary Pokemon in a basic Pokeball?

Bullseye gets a crit Earthquake and knocks Eternatus out in one go.

GMax Eternatus is impressive. Hats off to the designers here, it looks terrifying. The first and only time in the game where something feels like a threat.

And Hop helps out with his Dubwool again. Super helpful.

Cyanide falls in battle, as Eternatus focuses all its attacks on me and Hop helps by using the least effective move he has and doing almost no damage at all. A toast to Slowbro.

Cyanide is KO'd.

Haxorus is a bit of a tough one, as the only SE attack I have for a dragon is Icy wind on PC. Bullseye survives an Outrage but only does half damage with Earthquake, and switching to Jett almost gets her taken out in one hit. Two hits, she's gone. I bring Bullseye back in and spam some Potions, maybe I can get a free shot in once the Stamina starts to kick in. This isn’t what the crowd want to see but, but I just saved the world so fuck em.

Jett is KO'd

Yep, it takes a minute or two, but once I have 3 Stamina boosts I can Body Press the fuck out of this dragon.

Seismitoad starts off with Toxic, which was a wasted move. Leon uses a Full Restore, so I will too. I’m going to Body Press to victory.

Cinderace meet Body Press.

Fuck, I can’t use Body Press on Dragapault. Chamomile lands two Sucker Punches but gets knocked out a second Shadow Ball. Spritz survives a Flamethrower but isn’t strong enough or fast enough to land a second hit. Pina swaps in to take the Flame Thrower AND a Shadow Ball then KOs Dragapault with Icy Wind. I guess it did come in useful after all.

Chamomile is KO'd

I know Charizard will be faster than me, I just have to hope I can survive long enough to do damage to it. I send out Otis first, who can at least absorb fire attacks and has an electric attack to use. Max Rockfall almost KOs me but Max Lightning does half damage. I use a Full Restore, and I think between the sandstorm damage to Zara and the up boost from my leftovers another Max Lightning will seal the deal.

I’m not playing Pokemon again until Crown Tundra comes out this was a chore.

The band that plays during the credits, the least they could have done is used some custom animation that didn’t look like they were attacking, and made the music sound like it was being played. There's no drum beat.

According to legend, Ozmos stands on the top of the highest mountain so that it can hold up the sky. It can command powerful and devastating storms.

OZMOS does not evolve.

Ozone + Zeus + cosmos. Based on giants, Thor, Zeus, Susanoo, Marduk, Ra, Atlas, Prometheus, and the Earth’s atmosphere.

OROPHON Dragon/Water The Depth Pokémon 47’00” 2409 lbs Vast Trench - The Pokémon’s attacks have a chance of Poisoning or Freezing the opponent.

After a great battle with Ozmos, Orophon was sent to the bottom of the ocean. It carves valleys and trenches in the seafloor when it swims.

OROPHON does not evolve.

Orochi + ophis + Typhon. Based on serpents, Jormungandr, Typhon, Orochi, Tiamat, Apep, the dragon of the Hesperides, Leviathan, and the Earth’s oceans.

wow i can’t believe the ending’s finally here! i’m really happy with everything i came up with; i know that just writing pokedex bios isn’t particularly exciting or popular, but who cares!

this duo was really fun for me. i wanted to incorporate a theme that was both based on the planet itself and on international themes. my first thought was to combine the myth of atlas and the garden of the hesperides (where the apples are guarded by a dragon) with the myth of thor fishing up jormungandr. as i kept thinking, the more battles between a sky god and a serpent came to mind, which seemed really fitting for the legendary duo of a pokemon game.

as i alluded to before, my boyfriend expressed an interest in illustrating my fakemon from this month for me, so hopefully i’ll be posting those illustrations once he’s done with his semester. it’ll be fun to collaborate with him, and i hope it’ll help really push the concepts i’ve come up with to their highest potential.

Pseudo legendary line complete, even though I should have gone about with sketching color schemes first. Oh well. Some of my designs tend to hang incomplete for years, and sadly, this was the case for the color scheme, although the deep purple and orange remind me of the good old days of playing Spyro. It's really hard to not reach 4 colors. X.x Once believed to be a species that descended from the cosmos, these mysterious but mighty dragons protected themselves with shells made of meteorites buried deeply underground. As their lava-like skin cooled, it began providing more formidable protection while somewhat reducing mobility. Perhaps one day they will be confident battling with their shells off.
