DAMN THAT'S SO INTERESTING WAIT A SEC

(for those who aren't aware this is further exploration on something i wrote based on a @wouldtheybecomeafearavatar poll where some people are categorically incorrect in labeling homura as an extinction avatar rather than a web one)

i began thinking further on what you said, and 1) the nature of madoka's powers, 2) her goals and 3) what would feed an entity through her — makes it particularly tricky to pintpoint which fear she'd serve. i was making an entire essay here exploring the possibilities (mainly through an extinction, end, eye and desolation lens) and my brain hurt.

we know that one of homura's main goals is for madoka to NOT engage with the horrors™ much less become a part of them, but her rewinds inadvertently make madoka more and more powerful each loop, which could translate into madoka being marked by a fear more intensely each time. a fear strongly characterized by inevitability, which is what homura is trying to prevent.

madoka's powers as a god are very intrinsically related to the dichotomies of death and rebirth, hope and despair. the way she finds to prevent magical girls from becoming witches is to welcome them to their end before they get the chance to transform. she absorbs their despair, which could mean feeding off of fear and torment, even if it means taking it away from others and placing the burden on her. paradoxically, since she is also a magical girl, that means she'd have to absorb her own misery, which is what prompts the reinvention of reality. magical girls themselves aren't erased, but witches are technically replaced by wraiths as the beings magical girls must fight. they are distortions of madoka's cause and effect of her wish.

what we also know is that fear entities do not give a rat's ass about bringing the peace madoka wishes for humanity. in one way or another, her wish could be warped for the sake of spreading fear. perhaps, in a TMA world, no matter what entity she'd serve, the implications of madoka's wish are even more tragic (as if PMMM wasn't tragic enough!). her unwilling transformation into an avatar inplies the loss/corruption of her humanity and of the very compassion that she feels for the world and its denizens. her hope, which is something so embedded in her core, could get corrupted into something worse (perhaps an extinction interpretation would imply worse consequences for her actions and what magical girls could end up becoming; and a desolation interpretation would reinforce the law of cycles — creating more hope means creating greater grief to absorb and feed on). maybe it would prompt her to seek out more misery, despair and grief to feed on, even if she doesn't want to be an agent of pain, at least not initially. jon didn't want to become someone who takes pleasure and nourishment from violating people's privacy. maybe becoming a concept means a near total loss of what used to make her human, and her motivations would merely become twisted echoes of what they used to be.

imagine the guilt and pain homura would feel. damn all of this would make an awesome AU.

from this point on we can ask a few questions: what her motivations and struggles are (i.e. granting people hope, comfort and release from further eternal misery in life / feeling powerless to stop the horrors™ from dooming the magical girls' fate) and which fear would she cause or feed off of through her motivation and powers, which would have to be warped in some way for them to work for the main purpose of an entity: spreading fear.

an extinction approach would lean more on the rebirth themes and the aspect of replacing witches with wraiths, whether their creation was intentional or not from madoka's part. a terminus route would touch on her new role as this cosmic magical girl grim reaper/psychopomp of sorts, the comfort she offers being twisted somehow into something horrible. a desolation approach would have plenty of dramatic irony, as it highlights how madokami absorbs despair and grief and would feed on the exact feelings of devastation and loss that magical girls are doomed to feel as a consequence of the hope deposited in their wishes. her self-sacrificial nature becomes her downfall as she carries this burden, burns for the sake of others and becomes the most powerful witch (source of despair and torment) of all.

all of these aspects of her powers could be warped into something in favor of these fears and that could corrupt or destroy her as we know her. the thing would be knowing which one would claim her against her will.

what i'm certain of is that the story that would come out of TMA madohomu would be absolutely DEVASTATING and i am HERE for it.

Is Ghost the actual ruler of limbo or is it his Reaper?

If Ghost is/was the ruler does that make Soap one too now or is it Lumanary?

Do you think things could grow in limbo now (grave dirt + light/warmth= little flowers for the moths?)?

What do the other reapers think of Luminary?

Aside from the tear tracks, new fire and fire colour change do Soap and ghost look different know that they share a reaper/what do they look like actually in limbo?

Can price read the limbo denizens minds?

Did soap make the sword of Damocles/can he make more things?

Is there any tidbit or fun little lore bit that you loved but couldn’t fit into the story that you want to share now?

I'm gonna answer this in a bit of a roundabout way, because I feel like a lot of your questions will be answered if I explain more about Reapers and what makes Limbo so special.

So, in the fic I didn't dive in too deeply into what Reapers are, where they come from, what do they do when they're not meddling with human affairs, etc.

Reapers, as mentioned in the story, are powerful interdimensional beings, with the ability to pull beings into their realms, where they can physically change them. Reapers also have an ability to sense the course of destiny, not always in a clear way, which is why Ghost's Reaper was freaking out at the start. Destiny, by the way, is a pliable thing, and can be changed (as Ghost and Soap did).

Now, Limbo is a very exceptional power among revenants. It's mentioned a few times that the reason Ghost and Soap are so powerful is that they wanted something more than life, they wanted revenge. Therefore, their powers had a different goal than other revenants: Ghost's was to withstand any hostile attack towards him, and Soap's was to protect the people worth protecting.

But Limbo isn't fully just to protect Ghost, is it? It could've been a realm that instantly kills whoever enters it [which it was in earlier version btw], but the victims stay alive, they eventually accept Ghost back and obey his word. Why would that be necessary?

Okay, let's define Limbo. A separate dimension that Ghost can pull any being into, and change it. Like Rudy's Reaper said, Limbo basically works like a Reaper realm.

...Which makes Ghost an interdimensional being.

[This part I thought of just for my own fun, it might change in the future as I haven't written it down until now.]

What if Ghost's Limbo is a Reaper realm? That would make him a sort of very weak Reaper.

What if Limbo's intent was to create a Reaper-in-training?

Cosmically, Soap was supposed to kill Ghost. Both of them have a similar origin, except Soap had a specific revenge. Soap's powers boil down to "able to destroy anything." what about Reaper realms? What if their original fate was for Soap to destroy Limbo, and in extension Ghost, a Reaper to be?

Of course, they changed their fate. Which, by the way, started all the way at chapter 8. If Ghost didn't lose his cool and try to protect Soap, he wouldn't have been able to survive Limbo the second time.

So, when the fic ended, Ghost and Soap were both able to influence Limbo, their Reapers melding together.

Let's go back to your questions:

-Is Ghost the actual ruler of limbo or is it his Reaper?

Ghost. His Reaper can't change Limbo, just like other Reapers can't change its Reaper realm.

-If Ghost is/was the ruler does that make Soap one too now or is it Lumanary?

As the Reaper of Luminary said, they're now revenants of light, its absence and creation. Ghost and Soap share their rule on Limbo, Ghost on the victims (absence) and Soap on the moths (creation). I'm not sure if by Luminary you refer to the Reaper, which like I said can't affect Limbo.

-Do you think things could grow in limbo now (grave dirt + light/warmth= little flowers for the moths?)?

Okay, another tangent lol.

In the deal Reapers strike on a revenant's first death (as seen in the comic I made before the fic), they say "from this day till the day you die you are mine."

It's a concept I haven't expanded on at all, but what happens to a revenant after they die? In short, they're released from the deal, and are no longer under the rule of their Reaper.

As Ghost and Soap are now, alive and under the Reaper of Luminary, they're limited to the powers they were given. So, no, no flowers in Limbo. Yet.

After they die, and released from their Reaper? Suddenly they won't be limited to just those powers.

Sidenote, Limbo as it was acted like purgatory/hell basically. Now that Ghost and Soap rule over it? Could be turned into heaven.

This is the fundamental difference of them as Reapers-in-training. They're basically a classic Reaper now, taking people to the afterlife.

-What do the other reapers think of Luminary?

Before stitching together, the Reaper of the Void (Ghost's) was one of the youngest Reapers out there. That's why it's trying to force Ghost constantly, it's like an overbearing parent with their firstborn child. The Reaper of Destruction (Soap's) was one of the oldest, dating back to the first explosion ever. It was much calmer because of this, it has already seen everything, and had an easier time accepting the new change.

Other Reapers recognized Luminary as a herald of a new age, where humanity can affect Reapers just as they affect them. Whether they reacted well to that or not, I haven't decided yet.

-Aside from the tear tracks, new fire and fire colour change do Soap and ghost look different know that they share a reaper/what do they look like actually in limbo?

Outside of Limbo, beside the changes you listed, they didn't have any other. In Limbo, as you probably know, Ghost's eyes glow white. I imagine if he had his mask off, the tear tracks would as well. Soap's eyes were mentioned to glow as well, but unlike Ghost, the light seems to come from inside him, so his pupils are the only thing that glows.

-Can price read the limbo denizens minds?

If he had the misfortune to enter Limbo, yes, Price could read their minds. Ghost mentions in a very early chapter (3 or 4 I think) that the victims of Limbo have impaired mental capacity, so the experience of reading their mind would be different to that of a normal person.

-Did soap make the sword of Damocles/can he make more things?

As things are currently, he can only use the sword. Ghost's Reaper says Ghost stole light "a sword and a shield". Ghost obviously uses the shield constantly around him throughout the fic, and Soap uses the sword.

-Is there any tidbit or fun little lore bit that you loved but couldn’t fit into the story that you want to share now?

I think I answered that one first actually haha. As a last thing to mention, because Ghost and Soap are what they are, even after they die they would still be together. I didn't think of how Reapers die (if they die), but I'd say Ghost and Soap will have a couple hundred millions years together ahead of them :) [that moment when the cosmic horror turns into cosmic romance]

Thank you for letting me ramble about the magic system in the fic, it's one of my favorite things to figure out, and I always overthink everything so 90% of the details don't end up ever showing up.

Florist and tattoo artist Au and Cosmic diety au for you and koro sensei?~~~~~ i gotta know

I decided to only draw the Florist/Tattoo artist because I wanted to include Reaper Jr. in at least one of these AUs and I mean. He is so flower coded!! But just so you know; Koro-Sensei's the Moon, Aguri's the Sun, I'm a Star, and Irina is the Earth. Karsuma's an asteroid or smth idk.

Anyway Florist and Tattoo Artist AU!!!

Koro-Sensei - Helped his son attentive his dream of running a Florist shop, pops in and out to help around the store and embarrass said son. He and Aguri are married. She's a teacher at a much more normal junior high school, still teaching class 3-E but they're all a lot less depressed. Koro-Sensei likes to pop in to her class sometimes, bribing her lunch, helping with grading, and offering tutoring when needed. He's a busy body who doesn't currently have a job, his previous employmet is a mystery to everyone, and is just kind of whizzing all over the place to help people.

Reaper 2.0 (Named Karito in this AU) - Koro-Sensei and Aguri's adoptive son. For his entire childhood he looked up to his dad and desperately wanted to do whatever it was he was doing, but Koro-Sensei kept Karito successfully in the dark about his occupation. When Koro-Sensei brought Aguri home for the first time, Karito was very against her. Just another person to steal his father's attention away from him.. but as he got older, and Koro-Sensei became mutated, he began to greatly appreciate Aguri for helping split up Koro-Sensei's affections. He's very easily embarrassed by both his parents.

Irina - Ex-Yakuza, working in Emile's tattoo parlor as the actual Tattooist. She's not very creative herself, but can copy anything she looks at perfect. She handles the customers while Emile does the art. She spends her free time half flirting with Karito, he's cute and hard to read, so she enjoys the challenge of trying to make him actually flustered, not fake flustered like he always is. She's had a few run-ins with Koro-Sensei who's concerned about her turning his son into a delinquent. She loves showing off her tattoos, all of which Emile designed.

Emile - The artist behind the Tattoo parlor, he's not very good with people and sticks to designing tattoos out of sight. He and Irina have been best friends ever sense he got her out of a bad situation, and she is constantly trying to get him to open up to more people. He thinks the couple running the Florist Shop across the street are the most amazing people ever and has a massive crush on both of them, but doesn't want to say anything. Irina pokes fun at him for fantasizing being a homewrecker, he does his best to explain Polyamory to her, but the whole thing flusters him to silence every time.

An Everything is fine kind of AU. Yes Koro-Sensei is still an Anti-matter being but so long as he takes his medicine and doesn't stress too much, he's unlikely to explode. He saved Aguri, he did right by his apprentice, he's living a happy family life... Good ending acquired!!

I always liked the idea of Reaper Jr. and Irina being actual friends who are never honest with eachother, not out of distrust but because it's more fun that way to them? Dripping in sarcasm and white lies every conversation. Love that for them <3

I'm not quiet sure where this AU will go... But it's fun and soft and I got to draw Koro-Sensei in a cute strappy sun dress, so I'm happy <3

I was drawing again :D

First off, I finished this finally. The besties

Then I drew the beast au Drayton from memory- well, from memory is all I really can do without my computer so- everything's from memory when I draw at church. I wasn't about to do all the lines on his face and neck or attempt to remember all the orb placement but I think I did good considering how new he is

Here's some- mystery critter. idk I just went in without a plan and started doodling here

Reaper again. I royally messed up one of the hands but I think the rest is cute

And yet another Reaper. Can yall tell he's my favorite au Hop?

When I accidentally drew Reaper's horns on the reversed side I just rolled with it and turned it into a cool shot of him looking over a city from behind in some random universe he traveled to. I think I should color this later honestly. He looks so cool with one of his scythes (that I also drew from memory) staring over an unsuspecting alien city just going about their day not knowing there's a cute little guy planning to get into a bit of mischief. (Leaving tasty snacks on people's doorstep while they're away to leave them happy and most importantly very confused)

A reminder of why I don't draw Leon as much as I want to. I can't heckin- get the shape of his head right. At least when I'm on my computer there's an undo button I can use until I get it right.

Heh, I’m glad to provide with some ideas for a decent Forced God scenario! I’ve always thought the initial concept was neat, honestly, it’s just… The consistent and widespread current portrayals and vilification of best boys Ink and Dream killed my initial interest. So! Here we are! Moving on, though.

Glad you like the idea of retirement! I imagine it isn’t a common or necessarily permanent thing (though it probably could be, if they wanted it to be), and I do imagine imagine them actually having different physiology from your average monster, but nothing that would make leaving completely impossible, you know? For example, I imagine a lot of Ink’s kids, if they’re around, are capable of at least temporarily taking up his job with training, and Template and Pale are probably very good substitutes for the Creation and Destruction duo if they’re needed, The Multiverse is so expansive that there are, ultimately, plenty of others who could theoretically stand in for the current holders of the Balance- They’re just the best at it, since they’ve been doing it for so long and are used to the pressure of the position, though that doesn’t mean they aren’t bullied into taking breaks occasionally… Or at least, they were before Error went rogue.

I do imagine things went off the rails a bit even before Error dropped the ball, so to speak- Maybe around when Nim died and Nightmare and Dream were born? It could be interesting for her to have originally be part of a separate Balance (Emotions and Logic or the Mind, maybe?), only for her death to have started a lack of Balance in that duo by completely creating a new one. Not sure who her counterpart would be, though… Or if that should even be a thing. What do you think?

Oh! And another think I forgot to mention- I don’t imagine Error was the original destroyer, here, since Ink would’ve needed a counterpart before he came around (I’m not sure who.., 404, maybe, in a rare, not quite evil incarnation?). Whether the original destroyer died or something else happened, I’m not sure, but Error was their replacement- Potentially without Ink being aware of it at first, if it was outside interference or death. It would also be a good reason for him not to initially stop Error- He’s potentially in a period of grief or mourning, or trying to find his partner in the Balance and wondering where the hell they are? I just think it’s a neat idea, I guess.

I imagine that he represents death as a whole, myself, with his brother representing a specific kind of death! Though here, I imagine that his brother sometimes bullies him into switching out so that Reaper can take a much needed break (and maybe go see a few of his other loved ones scattered around the Multiverse for longer than a few minutes, heh).

I mean. Underlust exists, and there are definitely “more breastly” AUs too, pfft- But! I do imagine his mental state is a mixture of a Messiah Complex and a God Complex, with maybe a bit of a Superman Complex thrown in for good measure. He sees it as him saving them from themselves and their worlds because he’s a god compared to them, and the only one who can (which is very much incorrect here- As discussed, Balance Keepers are capable of retirement and even death, even if most of them decide not to!). Mind you, eventually, he cares less about the actual saving (which is how he initially justified it) and more about being the one to do that, but schematics! Either way, his isolation and lack of real guidance definitely did him no favors.

The Balance is a semi-sentient cosmic force of nature, here- It doesn’t adhere to good and evil, and it doesn’t care for specific people, but things must be maintained and it primarily communicates with the Balance Keepers to ensure as such. Not through words- Never through words, not in the least because even the Keepers would probably not be able to take something so massive having any true presence in their minds- But in feelings and urges and sensations. And it is very, very angry at Error, right now.

As for how much Error knows about Ink… I imagine that, if he’d heeded the feelings the Balance was pushing towards him, he might’ve been able to piece things together, but as far as he’s concerned, Ink’s just an uppity brat (never mind that Ink is much, much older than him) who’s trying to stop Error from doing what he was meant to do. Quite frankly, he wouldn’t care if he did know- He’s none of the others are as important as he is, in his mind, and they’re much, much weaker because Error’s effectively been on a spree for millennia at this point. He’s discovered how to break his own limits, effectively speaking, but it also broke his ability to stop, if that makes sense- The other Keepers could be as strong, sure, but to do that would be to sacrifice everything that they are, and their ability to truly care for the Multiverse they’ve dedicated themselves to. That initial reluctance that Error eventually crushed after going numb? That was something very, very important to Keepers maintaining their sense of self- Without that feeling of reluctance and respect for the Universes, their aspect of the Balance would consume them like Destruction consumed Error.

Ink really is trying his best, but Error gains ground quicker than he can encourage creators to make it, and his rampant destruction is also throwing other Balances wildly out of wack. The other big two Balances, certainly- I imagine all the destruction caused a swell of negativity and has wildly fucked with Nightmare’s head, here, hence his own initial disregard for positivity, and all the death (and a good number of unretrievable souls) are starting to throw Reaper, easily one of the most experienced and stable Keepers, out of wack, and his stability is fluctuating far too much for anyone (including Reaper himself) to be comfortable with it. But it’s also affecting other, smaller Balances- Chaos and Order (Fresh and Core!Frisk, I’d think), Mercy and Cruelty (potentially Reapertale!Chara and Reapertale!Frisk?), and other duos who are maybe less well known but just as important in keeping the Multiverse running (because I’m a sucker for there being more Balances, and it makes sense, to me).

Either way, he’s now having to try and mediate between unstable Balances on top of trying to stop Error and inspire the creators, and it’s all piling onto him in ways that are almost physically present- And that isn’t getting into how the lack of his own Balance is affecting him, because an overabundance of Destruction means his own is suffering, too. As for disposing of Error… Well, it’s complicated, I think- Error has gained a lot of power and consequently has managed to stifle a lot of Ink’s, and that’s without considering the mental strain the poor artist is under. Should he eventually take Error out? Yes, and he probably will, but it’s gonna hurt like hell, especially if he has to break his own limits and let his aspect consume him in the way Destruction consumed Error. And if that happens, they both probably die, and then the Multiverse would be down two very important players. It’s a complex problem, to say the least.

Are there people who think the Destruction is a good think in it’s overabundant state? Yes, probably, though it’s likely in part due to an upheaval of their own Balances (another reason Ink is so pressed- As time goes one, more Keepers begin to destabilize). Funnily enough, I actually imagine Nightmare wildly flips between supporting Error and not supporting him, because with as much stress as he’s under, I could see Ink dragging the youngest members of the Core Balances to the Doodlesphere and giving them a Very Firm Talking To about how he really, really can’t afford to have so many things out of whack with Destruction causing so many problems already. They’re young, in the grand scheme of things, and he isn’t quite thinking straight, but he hopes he can maybe impress their importance onto them??? Or at least make them chill out a bit? Dream usually smacks Nightmare back into reality because of that talk, haha.

And does Ink die…? I’m not sure. I could see it happening, though it would hurt everyone after the fact- Especially the destabilized Keepers, once they returned to their senses. It all depends on how things go.

Precisely this, Rainy. I was just saying this in the other response. I love the concept of FGOD! The execution... not so much. The black-and-white portrayal of the characters' roles and the one-dimensional characterization they get ruin my interest in anything for it. But I recognize the concept's potential! I just wish people would use that potential more.

I imagine that the kids have more freedom than their parents do. The way I see it, characters like Reaper and the Twins- who were born for these specific roles- are "engineered", if you will, to suit that role. The most obvious case, for me, would be Ink. I mean, he can literally come back from the dead.

I do like the idea of Nim being one of the "original" Guardians when it comes to the Balance. I mean, if we wanna get technical, the Tree of Feelings was the Guardian of Positivity and Negativity because it regulated those energies, and Nim's the guardian of the Tree. So they're both kinda the Guardian. Since emotions can impact rationality and actions, I don't think it's too farfetched to say she had some role in that too, though that's also more fluid than the clear divide between positivity and negativity. Since Nim was essentially the Guardian of both Positivity and Negativity, I don't think she needs a counterpart. Life and Reaper are counterparts because they preside over opposing aspects, but Nim? She commands both aspects. She is her own counterpart lol. Or she could be the more impulsive part of emotions while the Tree could be the more logical part?

You know, I read 404 and had a mini heart attack because of some of the things I've said. I do think having there be previous Guardians before the ones we're familiar with is a neat idea, too- lots of wiggle room with it! And, if you ask me, you don't necessarily have to name the previous Guardian. We know Ink has issues with his memories, right? Maybe he could be the only one left who remembers the previous Guardian of Destruction, but with his memory issues and the passing of time, he's forgetting them more and more until only a faint memory remains. I think it could be relatable for a lot of people who have lost loved ones, whether they be friends or family, and then they start realizing they're forgetting things about them. Such as what they looked like. It would help Ink's character feel more realistic, I think.

Yes yes YES! I see the Balance in a similar way! It's a semi-sentient force of the Multiverse, rather than an established entity or something. It's neither good nor evil, but it doesn't really feel emotions despite having them as one of its regulators. It doesn't feel sympathy for what must die or be destroyed, nor does it necessarily cherish that which lives or is created. It doesn't understand positivity or negativity. It operates based solely on necessity and the survival of the Multiverse so- in a way- I feel like my interpretation of the Balance could be considered a villain on its own. I like to call Ink the "Listener of the Balance" (totally not an Elder Scrolls reference) and the only one capable of hearing the Balance's "voice", but only because- in most cases, such as when the Balance is highly relevant- Ink was specifically reconstructed, if you will, to accommodate the Balance's needs. Sometimes I give it more sentience when the AU's plot would require it, where it can "possess" Ink and take a more direct approach, but only does so if absolutely necessary. And in these moments, it's made very clear that the Balance doesn't care for morals. Feelings. Identities. It'll recognize other Guardians, but only as the concepts/forces they embody, not as individuals. For example, it would recognize Dream as "Positivity", but nothing else. I think is a nice parallel to some of Ink's own perspectives about the AUs, and how he doesn't necessarily grieve over certain things the way others might. He knows that the Balance has no empathy or remorse, that it doesn't care for anyone or anything. CORE absolutely hates the Balance lmfao, they hate the whole "greater scheme of the Multiverse" thing.

But, uh, enough about my interpretations. Sorry about that, got a little carried away.

Yeah, I get what you mean. Error's pushed past his limits so much that he can't even stop himself anymore. It's like an addiction, I'm assuming. I wonder if Error might ever get to a point where he stops referring to himself by his name and addresses himself as Destruction? Maybe not, but I think it could cater to his ego and twisted mindset. He no longer sees himself as the God/Guardian of Destruction, he believes he IS Destruction itself. This is where irrationality and double standards would make sense and work because Error's clearly not mentally stable and thinks he's above these things. As for reasoning behind these claims and double standards, the thing about this kind of logic is that it crashes when proposed to anyone else- because it only makes sense to the person using it. In fact, the logic's hardly even there. In this case, the sheer lack of rationality and proper logic benefits Error's character because it further emphasizes how delusional he is.

I interpret Chaos as the force of the Void, so to speak, and Order as another aspect of the Balance. But rather than Order having its own Guardian, Order is the combination of all aspects of the Balance. But I have seen people associate Fresh and CORE with Chaos and Order before, I think it's neat. Finally, some CORE appreciation. My baby keeps getting shafted in these situations. Put some respect on CORE's name, y'all. I like the idea of there being these subcategories for the Balance, rather than just the main 6 and that's it, but I'm not good at coming up with these duos lmao. But one of the subcategories I typically use, aside from Chaos & Order, is Time & Space. I usually attribute those to PJ and Gradient respectively. Don't ask me how it works, I don't know either, I just like the aesthetics of it.

The way I see it, if you'd like my input on this, if the Balance is a semi-sentient force, then it might start pushing back against Error on its own. And considering over overpowering the Balance can be, so much so that even its own Keepers can't fully withstand it, it could spell disaster. Maybe, since I'm assuming the Balance can somewhat choose its Keepers, it can also strip them of their titles and powers over that aspect. So maybe it starts transferring some of Error's powers over Destruction to Ink, given the necessity of Error's own downfall. But I also really like the idea of Ink sacrificing his sense of self for this purpose, too- but maybe, instead of dying completely, Ink dies as a person. His body is still there and moving, but it is driven solely by that sense of logic and little indicators from the Balance. In other words, maybe Ink is reduced to his blank state permanently. I don't know, I think it could be neat. Fun little thing to consider (I say as Ink is suffering horribly).

I feel like, if we're being realistic, Nightmare would only support Error when it's convenient for him. Nightmare logically wouldn't want the destruction of the entire Multiverse- not only would that destroy his supply of negativity, but it would... literally kill him. This is why I see Nightmare and Error more as situational allies rather than Error actually being part of the Gang, their end goals would be too different. That's like how, in canon, Nightmare isn't that fond of murdering people because it takes away from sources of negativity.

Does Dream turn into Shattered? Or start turning into Shattered? I like Dream angst-

Just know that whatever Ink angst you make, Rainy, I'll eat it up like it's a gourmet feast. Because I'm just that addicted to Ink's suffering.

Alrighty then, guess I'll do Reaper Ren.

In this au, Ren's suicide attempt was actually successful. However, he wasn't supposed to die, and the Powers That Be are not pleased with him. As punishment, he's brought back to life and forced to work as a reaper until he's actually meant to die.

As a grim reaper, it's Ren's job to make sure that people die when they're scheduled to, and don't when they aren't. He does this mostly by entering the cognitive world and interacting directly with people's souls, though sometimes he does have to act in the real world too. When someone dies, he must collect their souls to make sure they don't end up trapped in the cognitive world as mindless shadows.

He receives orders from the Powers That Be in the form of a notebook that magically writes down the information of his next job on its pages, as well as little psychic visions when he needs to be shown something directly. Anytime he fails to carry out his orders, he gets punished by the Powers That Be in a variety of cruel cosmic ways, ranging from intense pain to a period of bad luck.

His arrest and subsequent conviction was one of these punishments, as the woman he helped was meant to die by Shido's hands. His celestial bosses pulled some strings to make sure that he ended up on probation in Tokyo so that they could have him investigate the recent mental shutdowns. Regular humans aren't usually supposed to enter the cognitive world, and none of the reapers on the records seem to be causing them. So now Ren has to figure that out on top of his regular orders.

In the regular world, he's mostly a normal human, but with enhanced speed and strength. Within the cognitive world he's much more powerful, essentially being able to do anything that Arsene would be able to do in canon, as well as some limited teleportation. He is able to access his more extensive powers in the real world, though only when it's specifically in service of his job, lest he face further punishments. Any time he uses those powers, or receives visions from the Powers That Be, his eyes glow yellow.

Talon AU

Finally getting around to writing out some new AUs and verses. This one will focus on the Talon verse, which will be by request and plotted out only. TW for mentions of brainwashing below.

Lena was selected for the Slipstream project at 21, just as in the typical verse. She's sent off at 25, crashes, and is lost at 26.

This is where the verses start to split. Winston, with his hands tied with red tape, lack of funding, and lack of support, is trying and failing to establish an Time Isolation Chamber, and an accelerator. Due to the lack of support and "too much work to save one girl who is probably dead anyway", he can't get the chamber up in time.

Meanwhile, Sigma, whose research was used while creating the Slipstream, could feel the disturbance in the fabric that holds the universe together. It wasn't difficult for him to pluck her out of the timeline and engineer a chronal accelerator for her.

Lena, by this point, was driven half mad. Between trying to understand the world on a cosmic level, to being the witness to all of Time's tragedies and victories, watching her friends fall in love and move on, watched alternative timelines where people don't even join Overwatch. Terrible deaths and beautiful creations. The beginning and end, the ouroboros of everything. I'll touch a little bit more on that in another headcanon, but she was non-speaking, barely moving.

Talon had an opportunity. While the Slipstream wasn't exactly advertised, there was enough of a stir that they knew who she was and what had happened. Given her shattered status, it wasn't difficult to begin to feed her information.

Now, there are two different kinds of "brainwashing". There's mind control, which is where someone takes control of the person's body, typically through a mechanical or chemical process. The person doesn't typically want to be committing these acts, but are forced to by the process. Examples of these include the Winter Soldier and Widowmaker.

On the other hand, you have brainwashing as more of a manipulation tactic. This is what Talon used with her. They played the "good cop", providing food and a soft place for her to rest. They were careful to avoid exposing her to any of the headliners ( Doomfist, Max, etc. Reaper and Moira wouldn't be a part of Talon by now ). As they did so, they carefully sowed the seeds of rebellion against Overwatch through offhanded comments and selective news channels being 'left on' so she could hear it from her cell.

As Lena recovered physically, the rage she felt at Overwatch was compounded by the manipulation. She sought vengeance for "what they had done to her" ( even if it wasn't true. ) Talon continued this brainwashing as they allowed her to gain some independence.

Eventually, Lena walked freely around the Talon base. She was given the option of the accelerator, which she accepted without question. And after a while, she was able to start PT and working out again under the observation of some doctors that worked with Talon.

Her powers are similar as a Talon operative. The Blinks, Recalls, and physical prowess is the same. Her mission now is revenge, still general anger and rage at Overwatch as a whole rather than individual people, which makes accomplishing that revenge goal... difficult, at times.

Coming face to face with someone she once considered a friend would lead to a huge crisis of identity. Lena has the ability to stay her hand, to not kill someone, but that conflicts with her sense of self now. So say, if her and Genji came face to face, she can make the choice to kill or spare him, but act of fighting someone she considered close to her would likely send her into a spiral resulting in a necessary retreat.

Talon has methods of controlling if she gets out of hand. There's a killswitch in the accelerator if it's needed that is unknown to her. It can be set to disable or kill, depending on the needs of the situation. Additional corruption can take place, with Lena being sequestered Talon HQ and manipulated further if necessary.

Her codename for Talon is Spectre, known for being a silent and deadly killer. Her personality changes substantially, with Lena become withdrawn and angry. There's much less chatter on the battlefield and even around fellow Talon members, she's much quieter in the base verse.

Depends! From what I recall Charmcaster had a security system where changing the name of the realm every few seconds kept people locked out of it but I'm not sure if that stayed true or not. So probably not, but she would if she could.

Since it's almost the month of love, I got a beautiful commission from the amazing @harchibudytgorichi ! ✨✨ I really like how the characters look here and they did a great job!

I'm excited to get to the post-return stories and the relationship with these two has given me a lot of ideas! Bruce is determined to apologize to Shu and regain her trust (and her heart). He'll do anything to repair the damage and Shu is about to receive a lot of courting attempts lol. One rose may lead to a hundred more.

The dedicated scholar is well known for her resourcefulness and quick thinking to turn the odds in her favor. Cindy Masters is adept at time manipulation while also training as a spell-caster and pushing her supernatural limits to a cosmic level. In combat she uses the battlefield as a chessboard and will strategize attacks to ensure the opponent's defeat.
