if you’re both feeling antsy, you’ll try to train indoors if possible
later at night, the two of you will curl up in bed watching a movie
if you catch him scrolling through his public social media account, you might tease him a little bit
kai doesn’t really like storms, so you’ll probably just stay wherever you are
𝚓𝚊𝚢
this man gets SO EXCITED for thunderstorms
he gets so antsy when the lightning starts to strike; he has to go outside and release some of his energy
if you don’t mind the rain, then he’ll take you on a dragon ride; the both of you just revel in the chaos of the storm :) and if you don’t, he’ll just go on a dragon ride for a bit
he LOVES playing in the rain - especially with you!
once he’s done and worn out for the day, you’ll both snuggle up with hot drinks and watch a movie or play a game while listening to the thunder
𝚌𝚘𝚕𝚎
storms trigger both his artsy and romantic side
sometimes, he just wants to stay in, be cozy, and do a little drawing or reading (maybe some light songwriting too) while having some soft music play in the background
you will 100% find this man seated next to a window while absentmindedly gazing at the rain
other times, he wants to be sappy and take you out into the rain with him <3
if you kiss him smack dab in the middle of a storm, it will make him perish
𝚣𝚊𝚗𝚎
enjoys reading by a window with you
you two will also make a large batch of a homemade hot beverage for the team together
maybe you’ll do some baking or cooking too? depends on the vibe.
prefers just to listen to the storm
𝚕𝚕𝚘𝚢𝚍
poor lloyd is secretly scared of storms 🙁
especially after possession
you try to take his mind off of it by building a blanket fort!
add your laptop, some snacks, and a bunch of pillows? he’s already feeling better
he’ll definitely lay his head on your chest so he can listen to your heartbeat. it comforts him <3
𝚗𝚢𝚊
unlike her brother, she’s always liked storms
she finds the rain refreshing, and will invite you to go on a walk if you don’t mind getting wet
if jay is around to control the lightning, then you all will swim - whether it be the ocean or some other body of water
if the waves and/or currents are too strong, then you two will just sit on the bounty watching the ocean…nya LIVES for the adrenaline rush a violent ocean brings
𝚜𝚎𝚗𝚜𝚎𝚒 𝚐𝚊𝚛𝚖𝚊𝚍𝚘𝚗
enjoys meditating during stormy days; will invite you to meditate with him
this man will drink an obnoxious amount of tea during stormy days
if you’re training to become an elemental master with him, then he will treat it as a normal training session and make you train outside anyway
𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚛𝚘 (𝚑𝚞𝚖𝚊𝚗)
he loves storms and uses the chance to sharpen his more violent wind attacks; he takes inspiration from the storm, in a way
you watch him train quite a bit; if you’re an elemental yourself, then you’ll train with him
he likes observing the world from a high point while it’s storming; the violent wind gusts combined with the thunder and lightning never fail to get his heart pumping…he’ll bring you with him too sometimes, and you both will just stand on top of a skyscraper or mountain to just soak in the chaos

What it's like to date Cole Brookstone
The dragons rising trailer gave me Cole fever 😭😭 so yk I just gotta do a Cole post to appreciate this lego man's existence
Enjoy this yall heheh
Tumblr media
Starting off strong: texting. The guy will spam you if you don't answer within 5 minutes
He's always worrying if something bad had happened to you 😭
He's also a ninja (obviously) so he's gonna be busy most of the time
That doesn't mean he doesn't make time for you though heheh
Before he'd leave for a mission he'd send you a sweet message, or leave small pouch of your favourite sweets for you
For your 3 month anniversary, he got you a pair of headphones
They're extra special bc they match with his <3
He sends you gym pics. Ok? He just does.
Mainly because he knows on the other side of that screen you're a blushing mess
Sometimes Cole will just walk around you shirtless to tease you, because he knows you're always gonna be staring
If you can bake, this man will BEG you to make cakes.
If you can't, you at least try. He'll always eat them, even if they are a little burnt
Its the thought that counts though, right?
His love language is touch, so you guys cuddle often
If cuddling isn't really your thing, that's okay! He'll settle for always holding your hand
When it comes to kissing however, hes so passionate that you usually have to lean on something, like a wall or a table 😭
When things get a little steamy he'll definitely be hoisting you up and wrapping his arms around you
(HELP WHY AM I GRINNING WHILE WRITING THIS AHAHAHAHSHS)
Your dates usually consist of desert places, picnics, and CD/Vinyl records shopping
He love love loves music so whenever you tag along with him to these shops he loves it, and also really appreciates the company
Sometimes you both put in one ear each of Cole's earphones and just lie on his bed together listening to music
Its so therapeutic for both of you
He tried to teach you how to play the drums a few times, but you're horrible at it, sorry 💀
(Unless you can acc play the drums ofc)
When you met Lou, he told you a bunch of funny stories about his dance lessons as a kid
Cole gets so annoyed whenever he does this but you think its cute <333
Lou would also go on to tell you how much Lily would've loved you
It felt a little uncomfortable talking about his mother, because you know how much of a sensitive subject it is for him
But Cole did agree, you reminded him a little of his mother
In truth, Lou sees himself and Lily in you and Cole
Although he denies it, Cole loves it when you trace his scars
Especially the ghost scar on his forehead
Also loves it when you trace his jaw
Whenever you randomly do, I promise this guy WILL just melt right there
Since his hair is really long, you're always trying out random hairstyles on him
He always protests, but he really does love it hehe
The man is such a tease, sometimes he'll swoop down to capture your lips in a kiss, only for him to kiss the corner of your mouth instead
Other times (when you're alone ofc,) Cole trails kisses down your neck and just randomly stops, and you always complain
He finds you so adorable when you're complaining 😭
He has a passion for singing, but will never sing in front of anyone apart from you
Most of the time, whenever he sings to you its a love song that both of you like 🥰
He's usually a pretty chill boyfriend, and doesn't normally get jealous
But on the very rare occasion that he does, he won't show it
Instead he'll get all pouty and whenever you ask what's wrong, his only response is to pull you into a hug
He'll most likely feel a little self-conscious and wonder if you're becoming uninterested in him
DONT give Cole a reason to feel sad. Do not. 😒
Anyways
He didn't tell the ninja he had a partner until Jay and Nya spotted you two in a vinyl records store holding hands
They interrogated the poor thing for like 3 hours when he got back
But once they all met you they really liked you!
Kai and Jay subjected you to more embarrassing Cole stories, which the earth ninja was NOT happy about
He prefers to spend time with you alone, away from other people
He vents to you a lot of the time and tells you about his struggles and his feelings
Hes actually really open with you, but he never pressures you to tell him anything
He wants to be able to earn your trust <3
(Sorry for any typos!!)
That is all ! I hope you guys enjoyed this little hc post 🤭 stay tuned for more !!

Cole with a girlfriend who has a passion for singing and dancing. She has a beautiful voice mixed with natural talent for dancing.
One day while they’re both slow dancing as a cute way of showing affection to one another, Cole’s father sees and gets emotional cause it reminds him of himself and Lilly when they were Cole and Y/n’s ages.

|| ꜱʟᴏᴡ ᴅᴀɴᴄᴇꜱ ᴀɴᴅ ꜱᴏꜰᴛ ᴛᴜɴᴇꜱ || ᴄᴏʟᴇ ʙʀᴏᴏᴋꜱᴛᴏɴᴇ x ʀᴇᴀᴅᴇʀ ||
Hello lovely! I hope you enjoy this, he's such an adorable bean :")
“Cole,” You laugh, setting down the dishes you were drying after he cracks an inside joke. You shake your head with a playful roll of your eyes and a chuckle, and he nudges you, clearly pleased with your reaction.
Soft tunes play from the speaker you had set up for your at-home dinner date. Much to your surprise, Cole had cooked and even lit up some candles around the dining table.
You and he had made small talk, and you were touched by how sweet he was being. You didn’t know he had such a romantic side, but you liked it.
He was always busy with patrol and saving Ninjago City, which meant many a time when he was off on missions, and helping civilians. Oh, and of course, saving the world. You promised yourself to not be too clingy, but it was hard when your dates were constantly interrupted.
Especially when he had to go save the world. You would wait every night at your window, a promise you had made to each other that he’d stop by your place first as soon as he returned.
The constant gnawing worry of whether or not he was safe haunted you every night he was gone, but Nya had relieved your concerns by providing a radio set to a specific channel just for the both of you.
He was sweet; he really was. But physical distance definitely played a part in the loneliness that fills your chest, particularly on cold nights when you longed for his presence.
So imagine your surprise when he texted you to come over in your comfiest clothes, and you enter his home only to be left breathless by the romantic atmosphere he had set up just for you.
Candles line the hallway, leading a rose-scattered path to the dining room, where the lights are turned down low. There your boyfriend sits, dressed in a collared shirt (ironed, no less). You gasp in delight at the dining table, your favourite food plated prettily opposite him.
You glance down at the jeans you’re wearing, feeling embarrassed that you had dressed down. He had said to wear something comfy, after all. You walk over, and he stands up from his seat, moving to give you a sweet kiss.
“Hey,” Cole breathes out, gentle hands on your waist.
“This is amazing, Cole. I feel underdressed, though,” You gesture to your clothes, insanely impressed by everything he had set up.
“I’m glad you like it,” He pulls out your chair for you to sit, “and for the record, you look just as beautiful as the day we met.”
You share a chuckle at the memory, fondness in his eyes as he recalls how he had accidentally stumbled into your rehearsal room. You weren’t very composed at the time, stuck in figuring out lyrics for your next song.
You had glanced up, defeat displayed all over your face before surprise flickered in your eyes, surprised by the sudden presence. Cole had then asked you what was wrong, and since you weren’t feeling the most motivated, you grumpily told him about your songwriting struggles.
He had stayed and brainstormed with you, even choreographing a short dance together with you. It was the most fun you had in a while, and thus exchanged numbers. He’d show up for all your gigs, and you, in turn, would be his rock, keeping him grounded and a safe space for him to confide.
You had since grown close, soft and tender smiles exchanged when you were performing on stage, be it a self-choreographed dance or singing your heart out.
And now, you’re in the kitchen with him after the romantic candlelit dinner, doing the dishes together. It’s usually a tedious chore, but it suddenly became the exact opposite with Cole around.
“Heads up,” Cole calls out before tossing a cluster of bubbles at you. You squeal in response, swatting it away and back at him.
“Cole!”
“Hey, I said heads up,” He shrugs with a cheeky grin. You lightly punch his shoulder with a playful glint in your eyes. You recognize the next song playing through the speakers, nudging Cole to get his attention.
He hums in response with a quirked brow, looking at you questioningly. “Remember this one?” You ask.
“Of course, it’s the one we danced to during our first date.” He grins, quickly rinsing his hands and drying them.
“Remember when I asked you for a dance?” He takes your hands in his, holding them up and placing a soft peck on the back of your hand. You smirk, fighting back the blush that threatens to coat your cheeks.
“Of course, though, I vaguely remember it being more of a waltz.” You point out.
“As if I’d forget,” He scoffs teasingly, pulling you close and resting his head on top of yours as he gently rocks your body side to side in a small sway. You nuzzle your face into his shirt, breathing him in and relishing the moment.
God, this cologne smells so good on him, you realize, humming along to the music. You can sense his smile as he hums along with you, enjoying your melodious voice.
He draws back briefly to twirl you out, and you oblige with a pleased smile.
“Zane was the one that made dinner,” He confesses as he moves to dip you. Your eyes shine with amusement, tilting your head.
“I know,” You admit with a smile, and his brows raise in surprise before pulling you back into his arms.
“Oh?” He murmurs, a tinge of curiosity in his words at how you had found out.
You nod, “I figured it out during dessert,” You tilt your head with a sweet smile gracing your lips, pressing a short kiss against the corner of his mouth.
You’re briefly interrupted when you hear someone else enter the kitchen, separating from Cole, suddenly shy. He grasps your hand before you let it fall to your side, holding it firmly in his.
“Hey, pop,” He greets his dad, who has a sheepish grin on his face.
“Hi Lou,” You say with an underlying tone of embarrassment, bashful at being seen with his son in such an intimate position.
“Hey, Y/n, sorry for interrupting you both. I just came out to get a cup of water, but I couldn’t help but be entranced by your voice! It’s absolutely lovely.” He praises you, and you feel the heat rise to your cheeks as you thank him.
“Good job, son.” He gestures to the candles with a smile, and you can feel Cole stiffen from beside you. You can practically feel him holding in an embarrassed groan.
“It reminds me of when I was your age, you know. When I first met Lilly,” Lou reminisces, leaning against the counter.
“Oh?” Cole’s interest is piqued, and so is yours.
“We often danced on the terrace, a place special to us. And to me even now. When she passed….” Lou looks back down, sadness clouding his eyes. He masks it with a smile, setting down his now empty cup and walking out of the kitchen.
“I hope you youngsters have fun! Don’t stay up too late,” He calls out as he exits, Cole draping his arm around you and pulling you close.
“You know, if it’s anything I’ve learned,” He watches his dad round the corner, the soft click of the door shutting, “it’s that I’m lucky to call you mine.”
You let out a small awww, reaching up and pressing your lips on his in a short but loving kiss. “And I’m lucky to have such an amazing boyfriend.” You confess with a goofy smile.
He resumes the slow waltz from earlier, the two of you dancing into the rest of the night in each other’s embrace.

Ninjago Cole x reader
Warnings: mentions murder, death, ghosts, kidnapping, angst, drug use
Summary: The Ninja get complaints about a haunted building and go to check it out. As they explore, the ninja can’t help but be affected by overwhelming emotions that surround the building. And Cole can’t get his girlfriend out of his head, who has been missing for 2 months.
Kai, Cole, Lloyd, Zane, Jay, Nya,
(M/N) = Man’s name
(Y/N) = Your name
(L/n) = Last name
“Why are we here again?” Jay whined, obviously scared about exploring a haunted building.
“Because we’ve gotten several complaints about this building being haunted and they need us to check it out. They plan on demolishing the building and rebuilding a hotel here.” Nya explained to her boyfriend. She rubbed his shoulder as she tried to reassure him.
“We should get this over with quickly. I don’t want to be here longer than necessary. It doesn’t feel right.” Kai shivered, rubbing his arms.
“Right. Let’s go.” Lloyd nodded. He lead the other ninja into the building, immediately stopping as the air grew heavy with emotion.
“It just got heavy.” Cole said, rubbing at his chest.
“Something is definitely wrong here.” Zane commented.
“Hello?” Lloyd called out, hoping to get a response from whoever haunted the building.
“…….Hel-lo?” An airy female voice responded. The voice rang through the air, making it difficult to tell where it came from.
“Woah!!” The Ninja shouted in surprise.
“Hi. We’re the ninja. We protect Ninjago.” Lloyd introduced themselves to the voice.
“….I know.” The girl replied.
“You know us?” Kai asked.
“……yes…..I know…….all of you.” Was the girl’s response.
“We heard that this building was haunted. Is that true?” Nya asked.
“…….Yes.” The airy female voice responded.
“Do you know who haunts this building? Is it you?” Lloyd asked next.
“….it’s…..me…..sorry.” The girl apologized. The Ninja shared looks with each other before Lloyd spoke again.
“That’s alright. We just wanna know why you are haunting this place.”
“……I’m……trapped here.” The girl answered.
“You’re trapped here? Why?” Cole asked this time. For some reason, the female’s voice was kind of familiar.
“…….Murdered.” The girl responded.
“Did she say ‘murdered’?” Jay asked. The Ninja shared alarmed looks at this.
“You were murdered?” Cole repeated.
“……..yes.” Was the girls response.
“Who murdered you?” Nya asked.
“……evil…….man.” The girl answered, anger in her voice.
“Do you know the man’s name? What was his name?” Lloyd asked.
“………..(m/n).” The girl answered.
“(M/n)? He’s in jail for several counts of murder and is suspected for several kidnappings.” Zane explained, pulling up the man’s profile on his database.
“…….good….he…..deserves it.” The girl responded.
“What’s your name?” Cole called out.
“………(y/n)…….(l/n).” She responded.
“(Y/n)?” Cole gasped. “Can you show yourself? Please? I need to see you. Please, (y/n).” Cole pleaded. The Ninja waited in silence until the air in front of them fizzled and a woman appeared, hair floating freely and her entire being transparent.
“(Y/n)!” The other Ninja shouted, recognizing Cole’s girlfriend. The other Ninja shared looks before looking sadly at Cole, who slowly approached the dead woman.
“(Y/n).” Cole whispered sadly.
“….Cole.” (Y/N) responded, slowly approaching Cole. Cole’s eyes watered as he could now recognize her voice, though it had an airy tone to it.
“(Y/n). How…..how did this happen?” Cole asked, a tear slipping from his eye as he reached his hand out to cup her cheek, only for his hand to go through her. A short sob escaped his mouth, not being able to touch her. Cole moved his hand to hover just above her cheek. (Y/n) smiled sadly as she titled her head towards his hand, as if nuzzling into his hand as she hovered one of her hands over his.
“I was……getting groceries. I was walking by…..an alley….when…..I heard……a cry for help. I went to……try and help…..but a man……took me. He injected me….with something…..and I fell asleep. When I woke up…….I was here. But I wasn’t…alive…..anymore. And I……couldn’t leave.” (Y/n) explained what happened to her. The Ninja wiped their eyes as tears threatened to fall, saddened by what had happened to their friend. (Y/n) wasn’t a ninja like them, but she was still very important to the team. She kept them strong and held them together. She always supported them.
“I’m so sorry.” Cole whispered, tears slipping down his face.
“Cole….it wasn’t your fault.” (Y/n) smiled sadly, reaching her other hand out to hover above his cheek. “I should’ve……been more careful.”
“But I should’ve been there. It was my job to protect you and I wasn’t there.” Cole blamed himself.
“No one knew…..this…..would’ve happened. It wasn’t…..your fault.” (Y/n) reasoned. “I’m glad…..the man……was caught. He deserves…..to rot……for what he’s done. To me……and all….. the other women.” Suddenly, (y/n)’s form started to fade, as if she was going disappear.
“(Y/n)!” Cole shouted, worried. (Y/n) only smiled sadly as she looked down at her fading self.
“It seems……I can finally leave. I’m at….peace now.” (Y/n) said. She looked back up and locked eyes with Cole, who stared at (y/n) with so much sadness that if she could, she would’ve cried. “I’m sorry…..my love. Our time together……is running short. I must leave you, my love…….I’m sorry.”
“Please, don’t. Please, don’t leave me.” Cole pleaded.
“I’m sorry, my love. I…..can’t stay.” (Y/n) sighed. As she was almost all the way faded, she went closer to Cole and leaned her forehead against his. Cole could barely feel the coldness that (y/n) let off, letting out a shuddering breath as tears continued to escape his eyes.
“I don’t want you to go.” Cole whispered.
“I know….my love. I don’t want to go……either….but I…..have to.” (Y/n) whispered back.
“I love you.” Cole said.
“I love you too.” (Y/n) replied. “I want you…..to live a long….strong life. Don’t ever…..give up on…..yourself. I want you to….find…..someone that makes you..happy. Don’t stay stuck…to me.”
“You make me happy. I don’t want anyone else.” Cole shook his head.
“At least….try. I want you……to be…..happy. Don’t be…..alone. Find someone.” (Y/n) insisted.
“Alright. I’ll try. For you.” Cole finally agreed.
“Good.” (Y/n) smiled. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Cole replied. Then, she was gone. (Y/n) gave Cole one last smile before she faded away and Cole was left standing alone, the other Ninja standing a few feet behind him. Cole let out a loud sob as he dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms around himself. The other Ninja rushed forward and embraced the man, hoping to comfort him, at least a little. As Cole cried with his friends surrounding him, he couldn’t help but remember the small square box that sat on his nightstand, the ring inside waiting to be worn.
Extra~~~
After the Ninja left the previously haunted building, they went straight to the police station and turned in the recording of (Y/n), thanks to Zane having recorded the entire encounter. With this new evidence, (m/n) was charged with another count of murder and other charges and was sentenced with even more years in prison, adding on to his life sentence. Cole eventually adopted a little girl and raised her as his own. He told her all about (y/n) and the both of them visit (y/n)‘s grave once a week. Cole never had a relationship after (y/n), choosing to put all of his time into raising the little girl and give her the best life he could.

Sleeping With The Ninja
A/N: I guess it’s about time I finally get something posted… I’ve been in this depressive slump for a while, especially because of the way my friends have been treating me, and for some strange reason Ninjago has been my source of comfort, so here’s this. And I made them platonic, idrk why.
Kai: Person A falling asleep in Person B’s shoulder/chest/lap and Person B really needs to get up to go do something but doesn’t want to wake Person A.
Today’s tasks have taken a toll on you. It was a chore day on the Bounty, but around lunch a call came in requesting help from the ninja. You went with Cole to take care of what you thought would be a simple mission, but it ended up taking 5 hours and leaving the both of you bruised and battered. It was a bank robbery, but on a much larger scale than you thought. There were so many ‘villains’ to catch while also protecting civilians. It was a tough task for only two ninja.
You didn’t get back to the Bounty until after dinner and you were exhausted. You barely had enough energy to shower, and it took you twice as long to complete the task and change into something more comfortable. You still had a few chores to do, but Wu dismissed them for you to complete in the morning. You didn’t have enough energy to do anything other than sleep, but it was only almost 7 at night and too early to go to bed.
Stepping into the gaming room to find a way to kill time, you spot your best friend Kai sitting on the floor, sorting through the various video games and stacking them neatly. You quickly walked over to him, sat down beside him, and laid your head down on his lap.
“Oh, hey Y/N,” he greeted with a smile. “How was it?”
You only shook your head, burying your face into Kai’s knee.
“Not well?”
“I’m exhausted,” you muttered, closing your eyes. “ ‘Ma lay here a minute.
Your words blurred together slightly. Kai didn’t say anything as he finished up sorting and stacking the video games.
It didn’t take long for him to finish, and Kai needed to finish a few other chores before he was allowed to turn in for the night. You were still laying on his lap, so Kai said softly, “I’ve got to get up, Y/N. You should go to bed anyway.” Except he didn’t receive a response. Leaning over to look at your face, Kai asked, “Y/N?” Your eyes were closed as Kai noticed you were sound while resting on his lap.
Kai smiled softly, pulling out his phone. He was totally going to tease you for this later. Taking a picture of your sleeping form, Kai set his phone to the side and looked around the room. He had to finish his chores so Wu wouldn’t get on to him, but he didn’t want to move you. You looked so peaceful and you looked really worn down when you first entered the room. Kai didn’t want to disturb you.
There was a basket of laundry not too far away that needed folding. Kai was pretty sure that was Jay’s chore, but surely he’d swap chores around so as not to disturb you. So Kai pulled the basket closer and began folding laundry, careful not to disturb you. He’d carry you to bed later, or wake you up, but for the moment he was going to let you rest.
Cole: Person A falling asleep during the car ride home and Person B carrying them into the house.
The whole team was sent on a long single-day mission, leaving early in the morning and returning late into the night. You were all piled into one of the many vehicles that could carry you and soft music was playing in the background. Lloyd was driving as Kai sat shotgun, talking quietly to keep both Lloyd and himself awake. Nya was passed out on Jay’s shoulder, and Jay leaned over on Zane. The nindroid stared out the window quietly, joining in on Lloyd and Kai’s discussion every now and then.
You sat beside Cole in the back of the vehicle in a peaceful silence. You were curled up with your feet up on the seat between the two of you, drifting in and out of sleep as you watched a movie with Cole on his phone. As time passed, your feet slid off of the seat and your eyes began to droop. Your head now rested against Cole’s shoulder. Sometime later, your eyes closed for good as you slept soundly against your friend.
By the time you’d reached the monastery, you were passed out still, except you had moved to lean against your window.
“We’re here,” Lloyd called softly to those who were still awake or somewhat aware of their surroundings. Nya had just woken up, and Jay was in the process of waking up. As people started getting out of the car, Cole noticed that you were still knocked out beside him.
He contemplated waking you up, but you were hit pretty hard during the mission and he wanted you to rest as much as you could. So, in response, Cole slowly slid one arm under your knees and one behind your back. He pulled you close to his chest and slid out of the vehicle, kicking the door shut behind him.
“Aw, look at Cole being a gentleman,” Jay laughed slightly.
The earth ninja glared at Jay. “I don’t want to wake them.”
Following the others into the monastery, Cole carried you up the stairs and to your bedroom. He pulled back your blanket, gently laid you down, and tucked you in. You began to move in your sleep, and Cole froze. He was afraid he had woken you up, but watched as you rolled onto your side and buried your face into your blanket.
Cole smiled softly, then leaned down to press a gentle kiss to your forehead. He pushed the hair out of your face before leaving you be for the rest of the night.
Jay: Person A and Person B sleeping in the same bed and Person A keeps waking up cold because person B has pulled all the blankets off of them.
Having a movie night with Jay leads to you falling asleep in the same bed as him, his laptop sitting in between the two of you. You lay closest to the wall, back to Jay as you bury yourself in Jay’s blanket. You hadn’t been asleep for long, but you fell asleep before Jay. You’d say your sleep was quite peaceful, or it was until you were exposed to the chilly air abruptly. Opening your eyes, you realized that you no longer had a blanket.
Rolling over, you saw Jay with the blanket you were previously sharing. He was still asleep and didn’t seem to be aware of his actions. You grunted slightly as you pulled the blanket back towards you, enough to cover yourself as you rolled back over and closed your eyes.
It didn’t take long for you to be awoken again by Jay yanking the blankets off of you. It happened several times within the next 15 minutes, and you finally had had enough. Crawling out of Jay’s bed, you stomped over to his closet, pulled out his spare blanket, and made yourself comfortable back on your side of his bed. You closed his computer, tucked it away at the foot of the bed, and layed back down and finally fell asleep for the rest of the night.
When you were awoken by Jay in the morning, he had asked why you had a different blanket. “Where did you even find that?” he asked with a raised eyebrow.
You glared at him playfully from where you still lay. “In the closet. You kept taking the blanket we were sharing. I finally had enough so I took your spare.” You lightly kicked him off of the bed. “I’m not sharing a blanket with you anymore.” Your words only made Jay smile with a small laugh, and you couldn’t help but laugh with him.
Zane: Person A can’t sleep so Person B sings them a lullaby.
You weren’t sure what time it was. You remembered leaving your room around 1:45 a.m. but you had been out on the deck of the bounty for a while. You had tried for hours to fall asleep, but you finally called it quits and headed outside to get some fresh air. You hated how you were feeling at the moment. Your body was so exhausted you couldn’t stand, so you resorted to leaning against the railing on the edge of the ship. Yet you couldn’t seem to rest in the slightest.
You were scared out of your mind when a cool hand was placed on your shoulder. Shooting upright and wiping your head around, your fearful gaze met Zane’s blue eyes. The nindroid was kneeling behind you, looking at you worriedly. “Are you alright, Y/N?”
You blinked slowly, then turned your head to look over the edge of the railing. Shrugging, you muttered, “Can’t sleep.”
Zane’s brows furrowed. “You don’t look well. Maybe you should come inside.”
You shook your head. “I like it out here.”
With a sigh, Zane moved to sit beside you, pulling you to lean onto his shoulder. “Then I will stay here with you.”
You hummed contently, nuzzling your cheek into his shoulder. The two of you sat in silence for a moment, enjoying each other’s company. You still couldn’t seem to fall asleep, but you were much more relaxed. “Hey Zane?”
“Yes?”
You hesitated for a moment. “Do- do you think you could do something for me?”
Zane’s voice was gentle as he responded with, “Of course.”
“Could you hum something?” You hoped you weren’t asking too much from your friend, but his voice was so soothing. There would be times when Zane would be driving the team home from a mission, and he’d hum quietly to himself when he thought everyone else was asleep. And if you were sneaky you could catch him humming to himself while making dinner. There was just something about his voice that calmed you.
“I suppose I could.” Zane wrapped an arm around you so you could get more comfortable before he began to hum quietly. You could hear his voice vibrating lowly through his chest, and you closed your eyes to enjoy the peacefulness of it all. For the first time that night, you felt like you could finally close your eyes and get some rest.
After a few minutes, Zane looked down to check on you. You hadn’t said anything in a while, and your breathing had changed. The nindroid smiled softly when he saw you asleep on his shoulder. He thought you looked exhausted when he first found you, enough to make you sick. He was just glad you were finally resting. Zane wanted to carry you back to your room, but he was afraid of waking you, and it was a nice night. He did adjust you, however, so you were more comfortable. Starting to hum again, Zane watched over you for the rest of the night.
Lloyd: Person A can tell that Person B is having a nightmare because they’re making weird noises/motions in their sleep so Person A wakes them up and asks if they’re ok.
Lloyd wasn’t known to be one of the deeper sleepers on the team. In fact, he was probably one of the lightest sleepers out there. It didn’t help that some of his roommates were loud sleepers. Jay talked in his sleep, and Cole snored excessively loud. It drove Lloyd insane on nights when he was exhausted but would be awoken several times due to his brothers, but he touched through it most of the time.
You never really made noise while you slept, and that’s what allowed Lloyd to get a full night’s rest. The two of you were best friends, and the two of you often spent nights together in one of your rooms. Especially during the day, when Lloyd wants to take a nap, he’d settle down in your room for a few hours while you either napped with him, or worked on something quietly.
Afternoon training had finally ended and everyone was either in the process of showering and settling down or getting ready for dinner. It didn’t take long for you to shower, change, and curl up under your blanket while you waited for dinner, and it didn’t take much longer for Lloyd to come knocking on your door.
“Hey Y/N,” the ninja greeted with a gentle smile as he leaned against your doorframe. “Mind if I come in?”
You looked up from your phone and scooted over on your bed, patting the spot next to you. “Not at all!”
Lloyd flopped down beside you with a groan. “Man, am I beat. HIs blonde hair fanned over your pillow, and Lloyd tilted his head up to look at you, still smiling. “Whatcha watching?” He scooted further up the bed, moving to rest his head right above your shoulder to look at your phone. His hair tickled your face slightly, and you could smell his shampoo from the shower he must have just taken.
“Just social media, nothing much,” you answered, turning your phone off and setting it beside you. You adjusted yourself to rest on Lloyd’s shoulder, burying your face on the side of his clothed chest. In response, the green ninja wrapped an arm around you. “I could go for a nap right about now.”
Lloyd’s fell to rest on top of your own. With a contented sigh, he said, “Me too.” The two of you fell into a soft silence as Lloyd pulled your blanket over himself and began to doze off.
It didn’t take long for Lloyd to be woken up by you. He woke up quicker than usual, because you almost never made noise in your sleep, especially soft whimpers and whines. Opening his eyes, Lloyd immediately scans the room for any threats. There seemed to be nothing harmful that he could see. The two of you were the only ones in your room, and you were still asleep beside him. That’s when Lloyd noticed how distressed you were. Your back was to the ninja, but he could still see how quickly you were breathing. Your shoulders shook, and you kept moving slightly.
Lloyd was no stranger to nightmares, and he knew how much it could mean to someone to be awoken and comforted by a close friend. So Lloyd gently wraps his arms around you and turns you around to place your head on his chest again. He keeps one hand around your waist and moves his other to run through your hair. “You’re alright,” he said softly, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head. “Wake up Y/N, you’re alright. I’ve got you.” It took a lot of gentle caresses and soft words for Lloyd to wake you up, but eventually your eyes opened and you were pulled away from your nightmare.
You weren’t sure where you were at first, but it didn’t take long for you to recognize your best friend beside you, covered by your favorite blanket and watching you with watery eyes. “Are you alright?” Lloyd asked as he placed a hand on your shoulder. “You had a nightmare.”
You took a deep breath, releasing it shakily. You shrugged your shoulders, slowly curling in on yourself against Lloyd. “I think so?”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“I don’t remember it.” Part of you was grateful you couldn’t remember the dream, but you felt terrible for waking your friend. “I’m sorry for waking you up. I know that’s why you sleep in here, cause I never --”
“Hey, don’t be sorry,” the green ninja cut you off, hugging you tighter against him. “I’d wake up a thousand times every night if that meant you’d rest peacefully.” He smiled at the thought. “I really don't mind. And, besides, I think dinner is almost ready. We’d be waking up soon anyway.” He was silent for a moment. “You sure you’re ok?”
“Yeah, I’m alright.” You smiled softly, and added, “Thank you Lloyd.”
“Anytime.”

Hey, guys! I know I promised I'd get the next part of "Of Wind and Earth" finished soon, but I'm going through some major writer's block. ^^' I'm trying my best to write it but it's just not coming out the way I want it to. Any suggestions or ideas of what you think should happen in the story would be helpful! I need some serious inspiration. Anyways, that's all from me for now. Hope you're all having great day/night! <333

Cole Brookstone Headcannons!
There's quite a lot so enjoy ^^
Tumblr media
First of all, I headcannon that he's Filipino
One of the tallest ninja, Zane is just a little taller
His favourite colours are black, orange, and green
One of the reasons he grew out his hair is because his mother was the one who always trimmed it for him before she died
He also grew it out to hide his ghost scar
He's a MASSIVE gym rat
The guy is absolutely shredded, and legit built like a greek god so rest assured this man has a jacked-up physique
He has a pair of orange/silver headphones he takes almost everywhere with him
A very good dancer, and also has such a beautiful singing voice (he never sings in public)
He plays the drums and guitar
He's definitely the therapist friend (along with Pixal, Zane and Nya)
He sometimes feels a little lonely, especially since almost all of his friends are in relationships (more or less lmao) and he sometimes wishes he had someone like that to confide in
He's bi, hasn't got a particular preference but he also doesn't usually date
He gives the best hugs
Cole's a pretty chill guy, but mess with his friends n he'll pound you into oblivion
He's closest with Jay and Kai, but can actually find himself venting to Zane or Nya all the time
When Lloyd was younger he used to take him to candy shops because he felt bad about rubbing it in his face when they first met
He probably has the closest relationship with Master Wu, except for Lloyd bc their family obviously
He and Vania sometimes stay up all night playing prime empire. She's an absolute boss at the game and Cole's determined to be better than her
He cannot cook to save his life, but something about the instant noodles he always has hits different hehe
Thank you so much for reading!! Lmk if you want me to do any other characters <3

“I wasn’t going to,” you mumble, doing your best to ignore how fast your heart is beating.
“Doesn’t seem like it,” Cole huffs, twirling you around as the two of you speak under the guise of a dance.
“It’s true,” you retort, being sure to keep your voice quiet.
“Hey!” Joseph says as he approaches the two of you. “You can’t just interrupt like that!”
“Joseph,” you reply, trying to tell him with your expression that it’s okay. He studies you for a few seconds before nodding and exiting the dance floor.
Cole doesn’t say anything. He only rests his gaze on you as your chests press together, eyes not daring to break contact.
“Can we go talk?”
“Not now. After,” you say.
“Okay.”
The silence resumes. You take the opportunity to gauge how you feel.
You want an explanation. You want to hug him. You want to kiss him. You want to touch him. You want to slap him. So many emotions...and yet, something about the way he’s gripping your hand, how one hand is now on your waist (when did that happen?)...it feels right. You just want to hear him out and address your concerns.
He seems hesitant, but also a little more relaxed now. Like you are.
You smile slightly, feeling part of the weight leaving you relaxed slightly. You might just forgive him yet.
…
Soon after the two of you part ways, you find yourself hopping back into the flow of the night, making sure that everything is still running smoothly.
Thankfully, the night ends without a hitch as everyone begins trickling out, a lot of people stopping you in order to thank you for your hard work.
“You did great tonight,” Skylor says as you see her out, helping her carry some of her catering pans. “Thank you for inviting me. I got a lot of people saying they’d stop by the restaurant sometime.”
“Good! I hope it helps you out!” you reply, grinning as you set the pan in her noodle truck. She smiles, closing the doors.
“And don’t think I didn’t see you all pressed up against Cole during the dance,” she notes, smirking a little bit. “What happened there?”
“We just agreed to talk things out after everyone leaves,” you reply, shrugging.
“Good. I hope that goes well. By the way, since you’ll be seeing him, give him this for me, will you?” She turns to face the doors of her truck again, opening them and reaching inside. She pulls out a bag. “I had a few leftover mini cakes that won’t be good tomorrow, and I’d rather not waste them.”
“Wow, okay,” you say, taking the bag. Yeah, he’ll love this.
“Thanks. Good luck! Keep me updated!”
“I will,” you reply, waving as she climbs into the truck. She returns the wave as the two of you exchange farewells for the night.
You watch her truck for a moment before walking back inside, heart starting to race as you see that the place is empty now. Even Joseph is nowhere to be found.
After a few minutes of searching the warehouse, you find Cole in one of the rooms, leaning against the wall with folded arms. You enter quietly, studying him as he looks up at you.
It’s awkwardly quiet for a moment. A while ago, that would have never been the case with the two of you. But now, the quiet is oppressive and draining. Face remaining blank, you fold your arms after closing the door behind you.
“...Hey,” he says, pushing himself off of the wall.
“Hi,” you reply, stepping inside and closing the door behind you.
“So...”
Quickly fed up with the tension, you decide to just cut to the chase: “You just...up and left.”
He sighs, running his hand through his hair as he nods. “Yeah. I did.”
“Why?”
“Because, I was invited to become a ninja, and I’d be moving far away. And I knew I’d be making enemies, and I just...didn’t want you to become mixed up in that. Didn’t want you to get hurt because of me.”
“And there were no better solutions?”
“I didn’t think about it at the time.”
You sigh, looking down. “I was hurt because of you. Not because you became a ninja. Because you just left me with some half-assed lie. Everything was fine before that day, and it made everything worse because I knew you were lying.”
“I know. I don’t have an excuse for that.”
“You didn’t think I was strong enough to protect myself.”
“That’s not...” he trails off, looking away. “No. I never thought you were weak.”
“Really? Because that’s how I see it.”
“I didn’t want people coming after you because of me! It’s not that I don’t think you’re strong, because you are. You’re the strongest person I’ve ever met, and it’s one of the reasons why I fell for you.”
You keep your gaze trained to the side, tears pricking at your eyes as your lips go taut. “I don’t think you understand how horrible things got after you left, and I need you to. Not a day went by where I didn’t think about you, trying to understand why you left. Why you lied. Finding out that you became a ninja and elemental master...all without telling me. That hurt. I feel like you didn’t trust me enough.”
“I’m sorry,” he mumbles, voice shaky. “I fucked up. It’s the biggest mistake I’ve ever made. I thought about you every single day, too. I kept thinking about what I should have done, and-”
"And what’s that? What should you have done?”
“I should have told you. I should have talked to you.”
You nod. “But you just lied and left.”
“I know. And all I can say is that I’m sorry. I won’t ever do that to you again.”
You’re silent for a moment, but this time, you look up into his eyes. The sincerity emanating from him...you can tell it’s genuine. Everything about his body language is genuine.
You sigh, folding your arms as your gaze bores into his. “Do you promise? No more lies?”
“I promise.”
“Then...I...I forgive you,” you mumble, stepping towards him and slinging your arms around his neck. He pauses for a moment before he returns the embrace tightly.
“Thank you,” he whispers, eyes glassy as he pulls away so he can look at you. “Thank you.”
“I missed you, you bastard,” you murmur, laying your head on his chest. “I missed you so much.”
“I missed you more than anything,” he replies, holding you in his arms. A few tears escape you as you cling to him, the weight finally dissipating. That makes you feel like you made the right choice. “And…I just need to say, you are absolutely stunning in that dress. You always are…”
You giggle lightly, smiling. “Thanks. You look handsome in that tux.”
“Thanks,” he repeats, before his eyebrows furrow. You giggle, having forgotten how expressive his eyebrows are. “Hey, what about that guy you’re always with?”
“He’s just my partner,” you assure.
“Didn’t look like it,” he replies with a pout.
You snicker. “Nope, just a partner. Why, jealous?”
Cole’s pout only deepens. “Wouldn’t you be jealous if some random guy just started appearing in public with the girl you love? Making her laugh while taking her out to dinner? Then putting an arm around her? Walking her home? Dancing with her?”
You roll your eyes. “Still just a partner. Can’t friends do all of that too?”
“Well...yeah, but...this is different,” he trails off, frowning. You giggle at his furrowed eyebrows, glancing back into his eyes with shaky breaths, both of you slightly teary as you gaze at each other. His green eyes now glassy, you feel the remainder of your willpower melting away as you shift your hands to his cheeks, taking a moment to rub his skin before pulling his head towards yours. You gently press your lips against his as he wraps his arms around your waist tighter.
“Cole,” you choke out as he kisses you, a heat beginning to rise within you as you pull away. “Come home with me. Please?”
“You mean...?”
“Yeah,” you mumble, clinging to his arms. “I missed you.”
You study his eyes, attempting to decipher the emotion laced within them. Soon enough, he nods, and the two of you make your way home, whole once more.
…
It really has been too long.
Cole’s hand remained on your upper thigh the entire ride home, occasionally drifting to your inner thigh. Each and every time, it elicited a shudder throughout your body.
“You’re driving me crazy,” you’d admitted with a deep exhale, finally turning into your driveway.
He didn’t respond, but you got the feeling he was smug. In the way that he used to be during times like these.
Then, once you arrived...
You couldn’t kiss him fast enough.
The moment the door is closed and locked, you find yourself backed against it, Cole’s lips already on yours as he pushes his body flush against yours.
You lightly moan against him, feeling him grinding against you. You cling to his neck, kissing him harder as his hands wander to your waist.
His kisses trickle to your neck, allowing you a moment to breathe as you savor the feeling of his lips, crotch pushing against you. You move to tangle your hands within his hair, gently pulling on the strands whenever he finds a particularly sensitive part.
A small yelp escapes you as he sinks his teeth into your skin, hands clutching his head as he licks the bite mark, sucking on it not long after.
He pulls away not long after, propping his forehead against yours. You stare at him breathlessly, breath mingling together.
“I don’t want to mess your dress up,” he admits with a small smile. “It looks kind of expensive.”
You giggle, grabbing his hand and tugging him to your room. “We’ll figure it out.”
He follows you to your room, closing the door behind him. You turn to your mirror, turning so that you can fiddle with the back of it.
Once you get it loosened, Cole helps pull it off of you. It slips to the floor, leaving you in your underwear. You feel Cole’s lips on your neck again, lining small kisses along your skin. You smile softly before deciding to hang your dress up so it doesn’t get wrinkled or anything. Kai would be livid if such a travesty occurred.
“Here, let me just get this,” you mumble, bending over to grab it. When you do, though, you’re not expecting Cole to grind against your ass, bulge impatiently rubbing against you. You gasp, immediately dropping the dress. “Cole!”
“Hm?”
“I need to hang this up,” you say, picking the hanger up and slipping it through the sleeves of the dress.
He chuckles, following you as you hang it over your bathroom door. “I know. I just couldn’t resist that view.”
Your breath halts as Cole pushes you against the wall, your breasts flush against the surface as his hands go to your waist. You stick your ass out, tensing when he smacks it.
“You’re so fucking sexy,” he mumbles, beginning to dry hump you. You whimper in response, trying to brace yourself against the wall as best you can.
He continues for a few moments, with you growing wetter by the minute as he humps you relentlessly.
“I’m going to be gentle at first,” he states, leaning to your ear. “Then, I’m going to punish you.”
“Why?”
“For acting all cozy with that detective,” he answers, ramming his bulge into you again. You moan, legs becoming shaky.
“What if I don’t want you to be gentle?” you question.
“Like how we used to do it?”
“Yes!”
He groans, stopping for a moment before snatching your hair into his grasp and pulling you backwards.
“What was that?” he questions.
“Please,” you whine, feeling his lips a mere hair away from your ear.
“Please what?”
“Fuck me,” you whimper, feeling your arousal multiply when his free hand goes to cup one of your breasts.
“Oh, but you know what you have to do first, right?” he mumbles.
Nodding, you sink to your knees, watching as he drops his pants, stepping out of them and kicking them to the side. The sight of his clothed erection awaits you as you straighten, hands immediately going to rub it.
You hear him moaning slightly, pushing his hips into your touch. You slip your fingers into the waistband of his boxers, pulling them down. His penis emerges, finally free for you to enjoy.
To start, you give the tip a short lick before wrapping the base in your hands and taking what you can into your mouth. Cole’s moans prompt you to continue as he grips the back of your head, thrusting into your mouth.
Soon enough, his moans are enough to urge you on as you circle your hands against the base, rubbing and sucking him to the best of your ability. Soon enough, his moans become louder as he swears underneath his breath.
“Fuck, I’m going to cum,” he says, causing you to continue at your pace. Sure enough, his hands hold you close to him as he ejaculates into your mouth, watching as you swallow it. He pulls out, giving you a moment to catch your breath before standing again.
You eye him with a smirk, loving how riled up you get him. That challenging glint in your eye makes him swear underneath his breath, one hand coming up to cup your neck.
While he does this, you’re not expecting him to sweep his legs into the backs of your knees, causing you to fall backwards.
The two of you always did this back when you were first together; your love of sparring and groundwork in training led you both to incorporate some of what you learned into the bedroom as well. Though, while you always put up a good fight, he’d always overpower you at some point because of his super strength. Not that you mind, but you can’t help but remember how much it would piss you off.
The thought makes you giggle as he presses his forehead against yours, pinning your arms down.
“What’s so funny?” he mumbles, going to suck on your neck a bit.
“Just thinking about when we used to grapple before going at it. Or incorporate certain takedowns beforehand,” you admit as he presses his forehead against yours.
He hums in response, locking eyes with you. “I missed training with you.”
“I have too,” you add as he sits up to take his shirt off.
Your breath hitches as his chest comes into view, rippling muscles on full display for you. Cole slips his fingers down to your panties, rubbing you through the fabric.
You whine, wiggling your hips against his touch in an attempt to create more friction.
“May I?” he questions, slipping his fingers underneath the waistband of your panties.
“Please,” you affirm, lifting your hips so that he can tug the garment down before tossing it.
Cole wastes no time in lowering his head, tongue slowly dragging across your clit. A sharper moan escapes you this time as he continues, pace ramping up, his hands bracing themselves against your inner thighs as you feel his tongue slipping inside of you.
“Cole!” you mewl, squeezing your thighs a little as his tongue goes back to your clit, managing to find your sweet spot. You can’t help the little sounds that emanate from you as he works, mind starting to go hazy as he continues.
Moments later, he pulls away, leaving you a hot mess. Your heavy breathing subsides as you rub your thighs together, aching for him.
Your fingers immediately go to unclip your bra, throwing it to the side before laying back down again.
“Do you still have condoms here?” he questions, eyes still trained on your naked body as he pumps his erection a few times.
“Uh...I think so,” you mumble, scooting over to your nightstand drawer. Sure enough, you find a stray one lurking within. “Here.”
He tears the packaging open, leaving you to readjust your position on the bed as you wait for him to finish.
"Okay,” he states. “Ready?”
You nod, spreading your legs so that he can climb between them. Cole groans as he drags the tip down your folds, inciting a moan from you too. Then, he starts pushing in until he bottoms out before starting to thrust lightly.
“Cole, fuck,” you whine, moans multiplying as he starts sucking on one of your nipples.
“J-Just as good as I remember,” he grunts, increasing his pace as he kisses you sloppily, this time forcing his tongue into your mouth.
His pace gets stronger as the two of you keep your eyes locked on each other, his hands prying your arms off from his neck as he pins them above your head with one hand. He dips his head down to your chest, latching his mouth onto your other nipple.
You know you won’t last for much longer, and you can tell that he is too, judging by how uneven his thrusts are becoming. You whimper as you feel your climax approaching, crying out as he utilizes his super strength to initiate a few final strong thrusts.
The orgasm finally hits, causing you to release a final mewl as he does the same, collapsing against your body.
Cole grins, kissing you passionately as the two of you relish the afterglow together.
“Surely, you don’t think we’re finished,” he mumbles, biting on your earlobe as you grow excited again.
Needless to say, there were definitely more rounds to follow.
…
By the time that the two of you are finished, it’s about one in the morning. After a not-so-quick shower, the two of you migrate to the kitchen, both agreeing to catch up a bit more over a snack.
“Oh, Skylor gave me some of her leftover cake slices,” you note. “Want one?”
“Really?! What flavors did she give you?”
“Let’s see…” you murmur, rummaging through the bag with a sigh. “Uh…chocolate, plain carrot, fraisier…”
You stumble across one that you know she put in here on purpose, making a mental note to hit her when you see her again. You shake your head but can’t help but giggle.
“What?” Cole questions from across the table.
“...her signature ‘Better than Sex’ cake,” you note, eyeing the handwriting on the plastic container.
“I mean…now we have to try it to see if it lives up to its name,” Cole replies with a smirk.
You roll your eyes, tossing the container onto the table before snatching the two sets of plastic utensils that she included. “Fine.”
He takes a moment to inspect the dessert, shifting the container around at different angles. “Looks like chocolate cake, but what are the filling and icing?”
“Caramel, I think,” you note, the both of you taking a bite at the same time.
After chewing for a few moments, you both eye each other with inquisitive glances.
“Better than sex?” Cole affirms with a simper.
“Absolutely,” you state, nodding as you sigh in utter bliss at the way the chocolate and caramel blend together in your mouth. “Oh my stars, she’s a pro.”
“She really is,” Cole agrees, the two of you munching in silence for a moment. “Um...but I’m wondering... Are we...really back together?”
“Yeah,” you say. “I mean...I guess we should probably ease back into things, but yes.”
“How about we go out sometime this week, then?” he proposes. “Whatever you want to do.”
“I’d like that,” you say, smiling softly.
From there, the two of you drift into other topics for a while, staying up for about another hour before you decide that it’s time to retire for the night.
You find yourself curling back up with him in bed once you’re done, bidding Cole goodnight.
As he falls asleep, you find yourself studying him, realizing that your anger has dissipated and that you could resume your dream of building a future with him.
You lay your head on his chest, wondering about the possibilities that might come. Would you end up living together again? Getting married? Potentially starting your own family?
...Maybe.
With plenty to think about, you close your eyes, readying yourself for sleep.

anything. | cole x reader
“This is it, guys,” Lloyd notes, green eyes studying the map anxiously as he leans back. “They have everything that they need, which means that we don’t have much time. We have to find whatever it is that they’re working on and destroy it.”
“The cameras that we’ve hid around Ninjago have picked up heightened activity at a certain warehouse,” Nya adds. “We think that’s where they’re working.”
“Here’s the plan. Me, Kai, Cole, and Zane are going to infiltrate the warehouse first. Jay and Nya, you two are going to keep an eye on the streets around the block. And as for you,” Lloyd turns to face you. “You’re going to keep an eye out from above. Make sure that the communicators in your hoods are working.”
You all nod, everyone pulling their hoods over their heads.
“Okay, what are we waiting for? Let’s do this!” Kai yells.
“NINJAGO!” the seven of you shout together. With that, you all set off for the deck of the Bounty.
You waste no time in leaping off of the edge, using bursts of wind underneath your feet to travel across the sky. You decide to expend the least amount of energy as possible, so you save your elemental dragon for later.
You follow the ninja’s dragons, easily able to keep up with the wind on your side. The breeze snaps past your body, granting you a sense of liberty. It surrounds you entirely – no ground to be found for miles below.
“The warehouse is not far,” comes Zane’s voice via the communicator. “But, we will need to land earlier in order to mask our presence.”
“There’s an alley just before it that you all should be able to land behind,” Pixal replies. “Zane, I have sent you the coordinates. Take the lead and show them.”
Zane’s dragon swoops in front of Lloyd’s, who slows down a little.
You notice that Cole’s being pretty quiet. Not unusual, but you think he’s deep in thought. You turn towards him, letting a blast of wind emanate from your palm. You use the momentum to land on the back of his dragon, immediately snaking your arms around him and hooking them around his torso.
Making sure that your communicator is muted, you set your chin on his shoulder. “Babe, are you doing okay?”
Normally, he’s all hopped up on that pre-fight adrenaline like you are – talking with everyone else, joking and speculating about how the fight may go. But something is different this time. Perhaps because this is going to be the deciding battle? You’re not sure.
You can feel how tense he is against your body. His dragon offers a low wail, making you think he’s somewhat apprehensive.
“Yeah,” he replies, tone quiet. You study what you can see at your angle, but you can’t see much because of his mask. “I just...I don’t know. This feels off.”
“What do you mean?”
“I can’t put my finger on it. Just...please, be careful?”
“I will if you will,” you mumble.
One of his hands come to grip yours, squeezing it. You snuggle your chin into the crook of his neck, listening as the wind whips past the two of you.
“I love you,” he mumbles.
“I love you too,” you respond, feeling his head lean on yours for a few moments. You notice the silence that has overcome the group as well.
“Will you stay until we get down?” he wonders, still holding your hand.
“Of course,” you respond, frowning.
From there, the group descends from the sky, all heading towards the roof of a building that’s hidden behind a skyscraper. Hopefully, the enemy won’t see you guys because of that.
The elemental dragons dissipate midair, allowing for the seven of you to leap onto the roof of the building. Cole hops down beside you, observing as the others sail down as well.
“Okay, everyone, get into position,” Lloyd states.
With that, Cole’s hand slips out of your grasp as he, Kai, Lloyd, and Zane all go to infiltrate the warehouse. Jay and Nya hop down the side of the building, both going to investigate the street. You, on the other hand, decide to get a better vantage point.
The skyscraper in front of you seems to be tall enough to work. With that thought in mind, you utilize your power to send you sailing up to the top, bursts of wind supporting your feet as you essentially climb the air.
When you reach the top, you latch one of your hands onto the side of the building, not yet wanting to climb over as your power dies down around you. You let yourself hang precariously off the side for a moment, your grip the only thing protecting you from gravity’s unforgiving grasp. The roads and buildings below you are so tiny now...like little dots or stripes all over a canvas.
You can’t help but grin; despite the seriousness of the situation, the adrenaline rush of being up high and in your element never failed to brighten your mood. Now reminded of the task at hand, you hoist yourself over the edge of the building, landing onto the roof with ease.
The breeze slips through the fabric of your gi, beckoning an army of goosebumps to arise all over your skin. You walk around the perimeter of the building, making sure to locate the warehouse where the ninja will be at.
Everything seems to be okay for the moment – the streets are running as normal, citizens carrying on as usual. You lean over the side of the railing for a moment, studying the warehouse. Nothing seems particularly off about it from your viewpoint.
“Everyone else in position?” comes Lloyd’s voice through the communicator. It’s just above a whisper, making you think they’re inside.
Jay’s static-laced voice is the next to sound: “Nya and I are ready!”
“I’m watching from a nearby skyscraper,” you affirm.
“Okay, good. We’re getting ready to breach the building. Keep a close eye out,” Lloyd instructs.
“You got it,” Jay responds.
With that, you simply observe for a few minutes. Nothing much of interest happens, and the others are being silent on the communicator. Paired with how quiet it is, that makes you think that they’ve successfully entered without being caught.
Suddenly growing antsy, you turn to take a look at the other side of the city. Similarly, nothing out of the ordinary is occurring.
Just as you’re about to stride back over to the warehouse side, a flurry of motion catches your attention from your peripheral vision. You twirl back around.
“Huh?” you mumble to yourself, watching as something rises in the distance. It seems to be a tower of sorts...no surprise there, but it looks like it’s...getting taller? And wider?
You frown, leaning on the edge of the building. What is that? It looks like it’s on the outskirts of the city.
“Jay, Nya...do any of you guys see what I’m looking at?” you question.
“No, what?” Nya answers. “Where?”
“It looks like some kind of tower. But it’s expanding, growing taller,” you note, frowning as it swivels to face the city. Suddenly, a horrid feeling creeps through you. “Wait...”
“Guys!” Kai’s voice yells, heavy static obscuring his words. It thickens as he speaks: “...was a trap...can’t get out...need to find...tricked us!”
“A trap?” Jay wonders.
You observe as four metal panels slide open on the tower, revealing some sort of machine. Eyes widening, you instantly leap into action, hopping over the edge and using your wind to dash across the air, straight towards the cannon.
“Jay, follow her! I’ll try to get the others!” Nya says. You can barely hear her because of how loud the wind is, but either way it doesn’t matter. You have to get there before the enemy’s plan succeeds.
So, they’d really thrown you all off this whole time. You’ll admit – it’s probably the smartest plan a villain has had in a long while. They’d completely thrown you off their tail this whole chase.
Even so, they’ve made one mistake – you, Jay and Nya are still free. You can still prevent a disaster.
It doesn’t take you long to arrive at the building. Using the wind to break your fall, you land just past the gated fence. The skyscraper spirals upwards before you, mechanical whirring coming from within.
You watch as the very top expands into what appears to be some sort of giant weapon. A cannon? It kind of reminds you of Garmatron in a way.
“Ninja!” someone yells. You spot a bunch of goons spilling out from the entrance, all armed. “Get her!”
You swing your arm out, sending a strong gust of wind barreling towards them. It hurdles all of them backwards, all smacking the wall roughly. It seems as if the impact has knocked them out thankfully.
But...what in the hell can you possibly do now? They most likely have everything they need completely set up if they’re only revealing themselves to you now.
In other words, there’s not much you can do.
Your breath becomes stuck in your throat as you see magic energy swelling up into a ball at the tip of the cannon. The shot is already charging, and it’s aimed directly at the city!
Immediately, you swivel your head around to survey your surroundings. Ahead is a building that’ll get you high enough to suit your only idea.
In an instant, you’re climbing up the air with the wind blasting from underneath your feet. It only takes you a moment to ascend the side of the building, leaping over the railing to the roof.
You turn to face the cannon, watching as the blast gradually charges. With both hands now out to your sides, you close your eyes.
Center yourself.
The breeze lifts slightly, swirling around you as your fingertips curl. Once you feel a deepened connection with your element, you funnel your protectiveness into the spell.
Now with your emotion woven between the seams of the wind, it snaps into something stronger. Its circumference multiplies, blocking the cannon’s path.
Already you can feel your power weakening, but you don’t dare back off. Not now of all times. Despite being strained, you force yourself into a surge of Spinjitzu – the most emotionally charged burst that you’ve ever performed. The urgency of the situation causes the tornado to spiral, forming a wind barrier that cuts through the atmosphere at a dangerous speed.
From somewhere, you can hear a faint boom. But your surroundings are blurring together, the wind howling far too loud for you to be able to hear anything else. Against your barrier, you can feel rancid energy throwing everything it has at you.
But you push harder.
A raw scream rips from your throat as the wind swirls faster, effectively cutting through the dark magic of the shot before it has a chance to pass you.
Numbness creeps through your body as you feel yourself aligning with the wind; whispers of past masters echo within the confines of your conscience, too garbled to make any sense.
Your vision becomes blinded by a sea of white, feeling now completely gone as you realize that you’re too consumed to return.
But that’s okay.
As the dark magic fades to nothing, you find yourself slipping past the force that lies beyond. The wind gradually fades to a stop, reverting the atmosphere to its normal state as you find yourself standing once more.
Calm overcomes you as you study your surroundings.
...What had you been doing?
You stand there for a moment, finding your memories jaded as the numbness recedes, now replaced with...longing. A burning desire to be where you belong.
Commotion emanates from the road below you, but you find that you don’t particularly care about it. Your interest lies in the horizon.
Now free from the confines of mere physicality, whole with the element you have come to love...
Nothing is holding you back from joining the sky, seeing what the world has to offer...
Still in an anthropomorphic shape, you step onto the ledge of the building. You glance down, at first studying the height and then your hands.
You are the Wind.
Just as you’re about to step over the edge, voices resonate from behind you.
“You did it!”
You turn to face the group before you, all staring at you expectantly. Yes...you recognize these people. Your previous friends.
The one in black – Cole – emerges first. “You’re okay!”
He attempts to embrace you, but to no avail – the wind composing your body simply disperses as he passes through you.
“Ha, that's gonna take some getting used to. But we'll figure out a way to change you back. Don't worry,” Kai assures, stepping forward next to the others.
“Back?” you wonder.
“To normal. You know, the old you,” Jay answers, face falling in confusion alongside Cole’s.
“Normal?”
“Hey...what’s wrong?” Cole questions, now directly in front of you as you stare at him blankly.
Then, you hear it again – those enticingly mysterious whispers. They beckon you to join them in an eternal adventure throughout the sky. You turn to glance at the horizon longingly.
“Do you hear it?” you question, ignoring Cole’s query as you stare at the sky.
“What?” Cole wonders.
“The wind. It's so much louder now. So powerful. More powerful than I could have imagined... I must go.”
“Go? Wait...no. You can’t. Listen, you have to focus. Concentrate. We’ll figure something out!” Cole pleads, trying to touch you once more.
You stare at him. How have you become so faded in what you feel? Either way, the distress on his expression prompts you to take one of his hands in yours, the other settling on his cheek in an attempt to comfort him somewhat.
His stare begs you to remain, with unshed tears lining his eyes. “Please? I...I need you. More than you could ever know.”
Still, you don’t respond. You gently pull your hand out of his grasp, turning to face Wu as he approaches you:
“I implore you. Whatever you're hearing, whatever you're experiencing. Fight it! Remember who you are. Remember.”
You smile slightly. “I am the wind. And we are one.”
With that, you turn to face the sky, your back towards them.
“Wind guide you, my friends. Su’um ahrk morah.”
With that, you leap off of the edge, instantly merging with the wind as the calls of the people behind you fizzle out to nothing.
…
First his mom.
Now you.
Cole finds himself blankly staring at a picture posted on one of the walls in the monastery. It was of you and him – taken by Nya one day while the group had been cleaning. You had jumped on his back, like you always would. Both of you were smiling.
Cole finds his thoughts racing back to the same what-if scenarios he’d been contemplating for the last few hours. Why didn’t he insist on staying with you? What had they missed that led them here?
For a moment, he continues pondering on them when he feels a hand grabbing his shoulder lightly. Cole blinks, a few tears slipping out of his eyes before he turns to find his dad standing next to him.
“Dad...” Cole mutters, suddenly finding his throat too tight for him to speak.
Lou’s expression softens as he studies Cole, moving in to hug Cole a few seconds later. The Master of Earth returns the embrace, trying to hold back his tears to no avail.
The two simply remain in embrace for a few moments as dread washes over Cole. Lou doesn’t falter with the strength of the hug, either.
“I’m sorry, Cole,” Lou whispers. “I’m so sorry.”
Cole finds his throat too tight to speak momentarily as his mind desperately searches for some kind of response.
But for a few seconds, he can’t.
“Dad?” Cole wonders, trying not to let his voice break.
“Yes?”
“Can I...come home with you for a little while? I just...I don’t know if I can be here. I need time away, I think.”
Lou’s expression softens as he nods. “Of course you can, son. You can stay as long as you want.”
“Thank you,” Cole replies, choking up slightly. “I’ll go pack.”
“Take all the time you need. I’ll be here waiting.”
With that, Cole makes his way towards his room. Everything around him suddenly feels too stifling to bear. The remnants of your energy are scattered everywhere, and it suffocates him. The feeling only strengthens its chokehold over him as he passes your room, unable to glance inside.
Once he makes it to his room, he spends a few minutes shoving clothes and other belongings into his duffel bag. He finds that his thoughts are entirely focused on the process of packing, doing his best to ignore the tears pooling in his eyes.
When he finishes, he takes a glance around before zipping the bag shut. After tossing the strap over his shoulder, the sound of a soft knock catches his attention.
Cole pauses, turning slowly.
There, he spots the Smith family gathered solemnly before him.
“Hey Cole,” Kai greets softly, offering a hesitant nod.
“We know you’re about to go, but...we made something for you. All of us. As our...tribute to her. But we think you should have it,” Nya explains, offering Cole a rectangular, black box.
After taking a second to secure the strap of his bag around his shoulder, Cole takes the box gingerly. He removes the lid, breath hitching at the sight of the item.
It’s a windchime – an intricate one, at that. Glass and aluminum sculptures cascade down from the top, all depicting different symbols.
“It’s beautiful,” Cole murmurs, tracing a finger over it. “Thank you.”
“We’re so sorry, Cole,” Nya mumbles, immediately going to hug Cole. The earth elemental returns the embrace, closing his eyes as a few tears run down his cheeks.
“Thank you,” he whispers as she pulls away.
“Let us know if you need anything,” Kai adds, pulling Cole in for a brisk hug as well.
“I will,” Cole replies, nodding towards Ray and Maya. “Thank you all.”
“Travel safely, Cole,” Nya adds.
…
A few weeks pass.
Cole finds himself outside one morning, deep in the forest that’s close to his childhood home. After a few minutes of hiking, he finally arrives at his destination.
“I can’t believe it’s still together,” he mumbles, spotting his old makeshift, childhood fort that he’d built years ago.
It’s nothing much – just an old blanket strung between three trees to make an impromptu tent. It covers a small area between the trees, including a foldable chair and a flat tree stump that serves as a table.
Everything looks so much smaller than I remember, Cole thinks as he sets his case and bag down, glancing at the chair. He tilts it down in order to swipe off the dirt and leaves that have collected on it.
Once that’s done, he sits down slowly, glancing around. The place hasn’t changed much since he last came here – not that it’s much of a surprise. Eventually, Cole spots a short but thick branch within arm’s reach.
Suddenly reminded of the purpose of his visit, he pulls his bag onto his lap. After unzipping it, he takes out the box that the Smiths gave him. He opens it, gingerly pulling the windchime out.
Cole gently slips the loop over the branch, watching as his hands leave the item to make sure it doesn’t slip. Fortunately, the grip stays secure when the wind tousles the dangling bits slightly. In the sunlight, the metal and glass parts sparkle softly.
His eyes linger on the chime momentarily, watching as it starts to emit a soft jingle upon being caressed by the wind. He closes his eyes, listening to its song
A few moments later, Cole bends down to unlatch the case bearing his old guitar. He’d found it stashed within the closet of his childhood room earlier, which is when the idea to come out here occurred to him. As his gaze sweeps the object, he swallows a soft lump in his throat, not allowing his thoughts to wander just yet.
As Cole lifts the instrument out of the case, a whelm of emotion floods him – hints of nostalgia mixed with grief and acceptance. His mother used to use this guitar – she would play him songs when he was little. The memory elicits a smile to cross his face as he sets it on his lap, the familiar weight comforting him slightly.
The wind picks up, causing the windchime’s hum to be joined with the canopy of leaves overhead. Cole listens for a second before deciding to join in. In an attempt to become reacquainted with his former hobby, Cole’s fingertips pluck a few strings.
As he does so, he eventually grows more confident and begins playing a song by memory. At first, he simply hums the lyrics, still somewhat scared to sing. Though, as he continues, he finds himself relaxing as he starts to sing quietly, opening his voice to the earth and wind.
Cole finds himself in a state of thoughtlessness – only softly singing while listening to the windchimes’ addition to his makeshift song. At some point, he even unconsciously imagines you next to him, quietly singing along in place of the chime.
As he finishes, Cole props the guitar against a nearby tree, rubbing a stray tear off of his cheek. He reaches inside his pocket to fish out a picture of you – one taken by Zane a while back.
“I miss you,” he mumbles, tracing the image slightly.
Cole sighs, setting it back in his pocket as he feels his eyes welling up with tears again. The thought occurs to him that you could be anywhere in the sky by now. What were you doing? How much of your identity was lost during the transformation? Would he ever be able to see you again?
He doesn’t know, and he might not ever know. But he had learned a lesson from his mother’s death, and that was to continue fighting no matter what.
Cole allows another set of tears to spill. Deep down, he understands that he needs time to grieve and reset. He’ll return to the monastery once he’s ready. But now is the time for him to rest and begin healing.
So, with a heart not as heavy, Cole packs all of his items back up, heading back to his father’s house for the day.
…
One stormy day, Cole finds himself seated within the old theater in their town, watching as his father’s quartet rehearses an upcoming performance on the stage. The group dances in unison, Cole grateful to see Lou’s relaxed expression as he dances about with his friends.
The raven-haired Master of Earth studies their movements carefully, knowing the quartet would want his feedback if needed.
Too engrossed in the performance, Cole misses the sound of the door opening. Two sneaky pairs of footsteps pad down the aisle leading to each row of theater seats, eventually turning into Cole’s row.
Upon spotting two silhouettes nearing him in his peripheral vision, Cole turns.
“Hey!” whispers Jay in a hushed tone, grinning alongside Nya. “Don’t mind us!”
Nya rolls her eyes, the two sitting down next to Cole. “We’ll wait until they’re finished. Now shush, Jay!”
Cole chuckles, turning his attention back to the performance. Had they really come all this way to see him?
Soon enough, the rehearsal comes to a stop as the Royal Blacksmiths pose at the end, all donning goofy grins. The three ninja stand, offering a round of applause.
“Your hard work has really paid off,” Cole notes as the four men descend the stage. “That was better than last time. Not nearly as many mistakes.”
“Mr. Brookstone! That sounded awesome!” Jay chirps from next to Cole.
“I really liked how you transitioned each song in the medley,” Nya adds.
“Ah, if it isn’t Jay and Nya! Thank you, thank you. We’re glad you all enjoyed the show. What brings you two this way?”
“We came to see Cole,” Jay answers. “You know. Ninja stuff.”
“Right,” Lou acknowledges with a chuckle, walking towards the rest of the quartet. “I’ll leave you three to it, then.”
“Thanks, Dad,” Cole calls, watching as the group enters the backstage area before it goes quiet.
“It’s good to see you, Cole! Sorry we came in kinda unannounced,” Jay starts as Cole turns to face the couple.
“No worries. You know my dad loves having an audience,” Cole replies, shrugging.
“How have you been?” Nya inquires as they sit down again.
Cole smiles smally at the question. “I’m…better now.”
“We’re glad,” Jay adds, his voice lowering. “We’ve been kinda worried, because…well, it’s been a while.”
“Yeah, I’m sorry,” Cole notes. “I started doing miscellaneous work around town to keep busy, so I haven’t had as much time to check in.”
“We understand,” Nya assures. “But, something’s come up back home.”
“Wait, really? What?”
“We’ve received word about a group of criminals attempting to smuggle suspicious amounts of Vengestone throughout Ninjago City,” Jay answers.
“Vengestone? That can’t be good,” Cole mumbles, frowning. “Do you know who’s behind it yet?”
“Remember Miss Demeanor?” Nya prompts. “It’s her. She and a few other goons.”
“But that’s not even the worse part!” Jay cries, eyes widening. “There’s a new group of ninja out there! They’ve been stealing our thunder ever since!”
“And people have been wondering where we are. Though, it’s been a year since we’ve seen any action, so I can’t say I blame them,” Nya remarks. “But, I have to admit, the idea of a new group of ninja just irks me.”
“New ninja? That sucks,” Cole mumbles.
“But, what we’re getting at is…we want you to come back home with us, Cole,” Nya adds. “We have a new threat on our hands, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to stand around and let these tryhard imposters handle it.”
“Yeah,” Jay adds. “We’re going to go find Kai and Lloyd, too.”
“What about Zane?” Cole questions.
“He, Pixal, and Wu are back at the monastery,” Nya explains.
“I see,” Cole trails off for a moment. Part of him likes the peaceful life he’s built for himself here over the past year, but another part of him is ready to go back. To return to the life of a ninja. To protect those who cannot protect themselves.
And he knows that you would be the first person to kick his ass into gear if he were to remain while there were people to be helped.
“Okay,” Cole decides, expression hardening. “Let me go home and pack. I’ll come.”
…
[Somewhere in Ninjago...]
The whispers became clearer after a while.
And you could hear them – the previous masters of wind, their shared memories with their elements all surging within your ethereal mind as you surfed the winds, never once touching the ground.
There was one voice that was...familiar to you – almost akin to a rush of déjà vu, yet somehow stronger. Some of the names were familiar – they would tug at distant memories, but not quite hard enough to bring any to light.
Their strength fades with every passing day, though, and at some point you simply stop worrying about it.
That is, until you find yourself hovering above Ninjago City one night, watching as the citizens gather for a celebration of some sort below.
Intrigued, you land on the roof of a nearby skyscraper, leaning over the edge to observe. In their hands, they bear orange objects.
“It’s a remembrance ceremony.”
You turn upon hearing the new voice, spotting the only other entity you had met in the sky – the only other entity like you. You don’t know his true identity, just that he has been lost to the wind for far longer than you have.
“A ceremony...” you repeat, turning back towards the crowd below. “I see.”
The entity steps closer towards you. “I am glad that you are here. There is something I must ask you.”
“What is it?”
“For some time now, I have been observing you. The other day, you intercepted a rooftop altercation and saved a man from falling to his death. Tell me: why do you save them?”
You pause for a moment, thinking through your answer. Do you save people because it’s right? Well, that must be part of it, but something about that seems...lacking. Incomplete. And you don’t understand why. It’s on the tip of your tongue, except you know you won’t ever be able to understand why by yourself.
For the moment, though, you elect to keep your thoughts to yourself. “Because...it is the right thing to do.”
He seems aware of your hesitancy. “I sense there is more to it than that. After all, we are merely an aspect of nature. Right and wrong do not exist within our territory, yet still you insist upon interfering with human activity.”
“But it feels wrong to me,” you mumble. “And I think there is something I’m missing. Something I’ve lost that has to do with myself.”
“Then find it,” he encourages, the two of you watching as the lanterns begin floating up. “Perhaps the truth is closer than you think.”
“Where would I even begin searching?” you question, trailing off as the lanterns float closer to the skyscraper’s edge.
“Heed their words,” he answers. “You will find what is missing below.”
With that, the entity dissipates, leaving you to figure out what he means. Hm...below. Did he mean the lanterns?
You reach over the edge, grasping one of the lanterns and pulling it closer. It appears to have a message on it, addressed to a name that feels familiar, followed by:
Thank you for stopping that blast of dark magic! Our city would have been torn to pieces if it weren’t for you!
You repeat that name, releasing the lantern. You say it again as you go to grasp another one:
Thank you for saving me and my mommy! I’m sure your friends will miss you, though. But you saved us all. Thank you!
That name. It keeps appearing, again and again, lantern after lantern. Something is on the tip of your tongue, but still you feel that what you’ve learned isn’t quite enough to tip the scales in your advantage.
You continue reading them, all of the messages along the same caliber before you come across one that sticks out to you:
We all appreciate your sacrifice. Without you, Ninjago would have been destroyed. I bet Cole really misses you.
“Cole...”
That’s the name that triggers something. You narrow your thoughts in on that portion, jumping off of the building and going to zip across the sky so you can think about it more clearly.
For a moment, you simply let yourself fall. As you contemplate the name, your form dissipates into the snapping bands of wind around you. An image conjures within the back of your mind – a group of people, their tauntingly familiar faces eating away at that strange wall blocking something.
“Who are they?” you wonder, pushing against that block harder. Even still, it tries to continue its lasting suppression.
But you push even harder.
And finally, like a dam...
...it snaps, allowing heaps of memories to crash through all corners of your mind.
You’re not sure how long it takes you to process it all. You find yourself drifting aimlessly among the skies, sorting through all of the memories and trying to make sense of everything.
But one thing is clear to you – you have to get back. You must find a way to return.
But how?
Your answer hits you a moment later, a mental image piecing together – one of a home long forgotten; a refuge that you had, at one time, known like the back of your hand. It makes sense that they would gather there, right?
Mind set, you begin traveling in the direction of the monastery.
…
Cole sighs, yanking his mask off as the team enters the hangar bay. He runs a gloved hand through his sweaty, tangled hair, using the fabric of his mask to wipe away a few beads of sweat. Damn, he’s more out of practice than he thought.
The others aren’t in any better shape, all sporting defeated expressions as the group processes what had just occurred.
Lloyd is the first one to say what the entire team is thinking: “Ex-ninja? Old-timers? Who do they think they are?!”
“The New Ninja of Ninjago City,” answers the uncaring voice of Zane. “And their arrival was fortuitous. Without their help, it is likely we would have been defeated. I calculate our odds—”
Zane is interrupted as a sudden sound pierces the relative silence of the background – something akin to a distant, shrill whistle. Had it come from within the walls?
The team studies the ceiling for a moment, the sound droning on for a few more seconds before subsiding.
“What was that?” Jay speaks up hesitantly, eyes nervously flicking back to the team.
“Sounded like the wind,” Kai adds. “But...it wasn’t windy when we came inside, right?”
“No, it wasn’t. Not to mention that we’re fully underground now,” Cole mutters.
“I think it came from the vent. Everyone quiet down for a second,” Nya instructs, snatching a flashlight from one of the nearby tables. She approaches the vent, stare scrutinizing as she aims the beam of light inside. “Well, there’s nothing that I can see. But the draft is strong...stronger than it should be.”
The group quiets down once more as the whistling returns, this time even louder. Nya shuts the flashlight off, backing away as the ninja ready themselves.
The vent begins to shake violently, the whistling only increasing in volume.
“Hangar bay sensors are detecting a breach in security,” Zane notes.
“Did the sensors pick up any signs of life?” Jay questions.
Zane shakes his head. “It is some kind of foreign entity. I cannot tell what exactly it is because the readings are unclear. Be ready.”
This causes the group to quiet down, zeroing in on the vent. Moments later, something just...pours out of the opening.
A pool of gray smoke puddles underneath the vent, the substance almost seeming...alive, in a way.
“What the hell?” Kai mutters, stepping forward to observe it. “Is that...smoke? Why is it moving?”
But something about the way the smoke is moving catches Cole off guard, leaving him to continue watching as the others start speculating. Something about it seems...familiar, in a strange way.
That feeling only strengthens as the substance starts to mold itself into an anthropomorphic shape, bands of wind snapping together to form the same figure he hadn’t seen in a year.
Cole crouches near the figure, catching the attention of the others as he says: “Guys...wait, look. It’s not smoke.”
The earth elemental’s eyes remain locked on the figure as the wind finally finishes taking shape. Cole shoves his aching heart to the side as he whispers your name, gently testing the solidity of your form by pressing his hand against yours.
Like last time, it passes through, but the interaction seems to catch your attention. You look up at him, the close angle giving Cole the perfect chance to study you.
Despite being entirely composed of wind, he can still see your expression clearly; you’re straining yourself, trying to focus on speaking without breaking concentration.
“C...Cole...?” you mumble, voice ethereal as your eyes widen slightly. “Is it...is it really you?”
“Yes, yes, baby, it’s me,” Cole answers, tone almost frantic as he strains to listen to your quiet voice. Your form suddenly solidifies enough for him to touch you, allowing him to take you into his arms.
“I...I r-remember now,” you stutter, raising a hand to cup his cheek. “I...need your help.”
“Tell me, sweetheart. Tell me what you need me to do. I’m here,” Cole replies, fingers covering yours.
“There’s a...way back,” you explain, voice straining. “Need to drain...my powers...I c-can't hold this form-”
Cole feels his heart lurch as two pairs of hands pull him away, eyes widening. “No, wait!”
His objections fall on deaf ears as he watches your form turn from that translucent white to the signature, icy blue of Zane’s element.
“Apologies, but freezing her was the only way to maintain her form,” Zane explains, stepping forward to study you.
“She’s...she’s okay, right?” Cole wonders, your frozen body still on the floor.
“Affirmative. In her gaseous state, she should experience no damage. She said she needed to drain her powers, yes?”
“Yeah, that’s what she said, but...that’s impossible, right? There’s no way we can undo whatever spell she performed,” Cole responds, a hand on his forehead.
“No. It's not. Kai had his powers taken away. Remember?” Lloyd interjects as Cole takes a moment to process what his teammates are saying.
Kai nods, eyes downcast at the memory. “Yeah. I remember. Real well. And if you're thinking what I think you're thinking—”
The brunet’s suggestion causes Cole’s understanding to click into place.
Aspheera. She can take away your power. She can save you.
Cole frowns upon remembering that Aspheera is imprisoned, and it would be risky to break her out – especially with those new ninja prowling about. So many things could go wrong...
...but if it worked?
Then...you could come back. For good.
Sensei Wu interrupts this time, having been unusually quiet during the ordeal. “That is out of the question. There has to be another way!”
Lloyd approaches his uncle, coming to a sudden realization. “Master Wu. You spent the last year searching for a way to bring her back. Have you found anything? Anything at all?”
The old man releases a hefty sigh, shaking his head. “I have not.”
“Sensei...” Cole starts, approaching him with pleading eyes. “After all she did...for us, and for the city. This could be the only chance that we have to save her.”
Through Wu’s firm glare, however, Cole takes note of the pain lurking underneath. The exhaustion of hunting for another way, the pain of losing one of his pupils. Even Wu is breaking, despite his next rejection: “This is a mistake! Aspheera can't be trusted! If we let her out of prison, even briefly, lives will be at risk. I...I cannot be a part of this.”
“But, Uncle,” Lloyd argues, eyeing your fallen self. “Everyone is safer with her back!”
“No doubt, this is going to be one of the riskiest missions we’ve ever decided to take,” Nya notes. “And whatever we decide to do...we have to decide as a team.”
“So...are we still a team, then?” Cole wonders, letting the question linger momentarily.
Everyone’s head turns to Lloyd, who proposes the decision:
“All in favor of going after—”
Before he can even finish, the entire team has their hand raised. A sense of relief floods Cole as Lloyd nods, the gravity of the next mission settling in as everyone comes to understand what must be done.
The blond nods as everyone lowers their arm. “Okay then. It's decided. We go get Aspheera, and save her.”
With that, the group disperses after collectively deciding to try and ask the mayor for help first before jumping into any drastic decisions. As everyone goes to gear up, Cole takes the opportunity kneel next to you again.
Tears line his eyes as he gently traces your fingers, wishing he can hold your hand, but scared of his body heat potentially speeding up the melting process.
“Don’t worry about a thing, love,” he mumbles. “I don’t care what I have to do. I’m going to get you back.”
…
You can't move.
No matter how much you try, you’re stuck – frozen, you think. The energy lacing the ice encasing you is familiar; it prevents you from losing your shape. You don’t think you’d be able to reassemble yourself if it melted due to the lack of elemental wind energy present in the bay.
Your vision is completely covered in ice, unable to see anything clearly; silhouettes dip in and out of your vision, sometimes accompanied by muddled voices. If you listen closely enough, you can make out patches of what they’re saying if they’re close enough.
The one you cling to most is Cole’s. He visits you when he can between missions, promising that he’s going to find a way to turn you human again. You wish he could stay with you longer, but are grateful that he’s working so hard to help you.
You have no idea how much time has passed. For the most part, you just feel...cold. You yearn to regain your sense of touch, realizing that you’ve nearly forgotten what it feels like.
At some point, you start to hear...shouting? You can’t quite discern who is speaking, but it seems as if the entire team has returned. More commotion ensues, to the point where you find yourself overwhelmed trying to understand what’s happening.
But...something’s happening.
A sharp vibration instantly snaps the ice off from around your figure, a string of purple light encompassing you. You’re forced off of the ground, a newfound energy clawing its way between you and your elemental power while your vision is completely flooded with purple light. Little by little, the wind that you had grown so accustomed to wielding starts dwindling.
Part of you instinctively latches onto the bit that remains, but the immense power of the spell overwhelms your last bit of control on it.
And then? Your wind is gone. Just like that.
But...that’s not all. The purple abruptly stops, and a loud noise sounds from somewhere near you. A chorus of shouts echo within the bay as the spell releases you.
Blinding lights are the first thing you notice, followed by your body crashing to the ground. The breath in your lungs (if there was any there to begin with) is knocked out, leaving you struggling to breathe. Your skin is burning with the remnants of the spell, paired with the sudden sense of solidity underneath you.
You try to suck in a breath again, but your muscles still won’t obey you.
Suddenly, someone is hovering above you. You realize Cole has swept you into his arms, and he’s trying to tell you something.
“Breathe, baby, breathe. In through your nose, out through your mouth,” he instructs, his voice an anchor of familiarity amidst the chaos of your surroundings.
After a few tries, you’re able to inhale deeply.
“That’s it, there you go. Keep breathing. You’re okay. You’re safe now,” he promises, his spearmint eyes glassy with unshed tears.
“C...Cole...” you drawl, still trying to become reacquainted with your physical body. “Thank...thank you...”
“I told you I’d do anything for you,” he mumbles, dropping his head so that he can press a soft kiss against your lips. You close your eyes, savoring that missed feeling of your lover against you.
More voices – these unfamiliar – start speaking, causing Cole to shift his attention elsewhere. You watch as his expression morphs into one of disappointment, turning back to face you.
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart, but I have to go,” he mumbles. “I’ll be back as fast as I can, but Skylor and Sensei are going to take care of you until we get things sorted out.”
“No...p-please stay!” you choke out, now able to move your hand to clutch his.
“Your friends are being arrested for breaking into Kryptarium Prison and freeing a felon!” announces some punk in a teal gi. “We don't have any reason to arrest you three. Yet. But I warn you: we're watching you. And if you give us any reason to even think you're following the ninja's example, we'll be back. And you will face the New! Ninja! Smoke bomb!”
“Don’t worry about it, love,” Cole states with a sad smile. “We’ll figure something out, okay? I love you.”
“I love you too,” you say as he releases your hand.
With that, the ninja are taken away, leaving you with Skylor, Pixal, and Sensei Wu. Cole breathes a heavy sigh of relief, knowing that you’ve returned and will recover.
“I hope it was worth it, criminal,” sneers the pink ninja.
“It was,” Cole states, glancing back at you one last time before sharing a small, victorious grin with the team. “For her... I’d do anything.”

Sunshine spills over your desk as you gaze out of the window, eyes scanning the horizon splayed beyond the smudged glass as your mind ventures through all of the activities you’d be doing if you weren’t in school at the moment.
The room is quiet, save for the muffled music emanating from someone’s headphones as the class finishes the daily journaling prompt. Your eyes quickly glance down towards your finished entry, no other words coming to mind. Instead of adding more, you elect to add a few doodles to the side of your paper.
About a minute passes before the teacher stands, a stack of papers in her hands. “Alright, everyone! Journaling time’s over. Today, we’re going to be preparing for our first Socratic Seminar. So, please partner up! No one is allowed to work alone!”
You sigh softly upon hearing this, watching as your classmates partner with each other. Stars, you hate this aspect of school. You probably won’t even need a partner for this!
The chatter kicks up a notch as people start looking for partners before clearing into their respective seats. You remain at your desk, deciding just to take whoever is leftover.
A few moments later, you spot another student apparently hating this as much as you are. Sitting diagonally from you and now facing your direction is none other than Cole Brookstone himself. His combination of long, black hair pulled into an adorably messy bun along with his spearmint-tinted eyes makes your heart skip a beat - doubly so when you realize he’s looking at you, headphones dropped around his neck. The fact that he’s wearing a muscle tank that sets those gorgeous-toned arms on display does not help.
It’s then that you’re snapped out of your trance, heart racing even more when he nods toward you, one of his eyebrows raised.
You get the message, briefly nodding at him with a soft smile.
While he grabs his supplies, you take a moment to put away your journal, now replaced by your school laptop. You subtly take a deep breath, part of you in disbelief that you’re going to be partnering with your crush of several months for this assignment.
Cole settles in beside you, dropping his belongings on the desk before relaxing into the chair.
After he does, the teacher glances around before nodding. “Great. Okay, your assignment is to read the next three chapters of our current novella, then prepare for next week’s Socratic Seminar using quotes and notes from the chapters. I’m handing out your seminar preparation packets now - remember to read the overview! I’ll be going more in depth about the actual seminar the day of. These are going to be due on Wednesday.”
“I hate Socratic Seminars,” Cole mutters, pausing the music on his headphones.
“Me too,” you agree as the teacher hands you two packets, one of which you hand to Cole. You try to ignore the tingling the ignites as your fingers brush together.
“At least it’s only three chapters. With how short they are, it won’t take long to read. I can probably finish them both up tonight.”
“Yeah, same. I’ll make a Google Doc so we can share notes as we read,” you respond, opening your school laptop. “Does that work?”
Cole nods, doing the same. “At least it’s only three chapters. With how short they are, I can probably finish them all tonight.”
“I will too, then,” you note, creating a new document before spinning your laptop around so that he can add his school email.
“In that case, would you just want to meet up after school tomorrow so we can just knock the packet out before the weekend?”’ he suggests, sliding the computer back to you.
The proposition catches you slightly off guard, although you can’t help but acknowledge that blooming elation in your chest.
You nod. “Yeah, let’s do that.”
“How does the cafe right next to the school sound?”
“That works,” you say. “I’ll meet you there, then?”
…
“It’s a date!” your friend shrieks over the phone.
You roll your eyes, tossing the novella atop your nightstand. “It is not a date! I’ve told you like eight times already!”
“Someone’s in denial! Okay, okay, fine. How about we go over the facts, hm?”
“Oh, come on! What facts? I think you’re just making a big deal out of nothing,” you add, finishing up your nightly routine.
“Nothing? Yeah, right. So, tell me - if it really is nothing, then why aren’t the two of you just working on it remotely via the Google Doc? That’s what everyone else is doing! You don’t have to meet in person to get this done!”
“That doesn’t mean anything,” you interject with a shake of your head. “We just want to get it done before the weekend starts.”
“You’re unbelievable,” mutters your friend. “But that’s fine, because you don’t have to believe it. This could be your chance!”
You contemplate what your friend is saying for a moment before deciding to play the dumb card again. “Chance for what? It’s just homework. It’s not that deep.”
“You’re always making goo-goo eyes at him, and I’ve noticed him looking at you too, you know. I think you guys have some good chemistry.”
“I don’t know,” you mumble, nervousness creeping throughout your chest as you shift the grip on your phone slightly. “I…I guess I’ll just see how it goes, then.”
“There, there we go!” cheers the voice on the other end. “Just tell me how it goes, okay?!”
“Fine, I will!”
“Good. Now finish reading that stupid book so you’ll be prepared. Text me, okay?”
“I will. Thanks.”
With a few more closing words, the two of you hang up for the night before you get started on reading the required chapters.
…
You don’t think you’ve ever been this nervous before.
With each passing class, the ball of nerves embedded within your belly grows, eventually manifesting into a racing heart and sweaty palms. You swallow as the last bell of the day rings, grabbing your bag before heading out.
As you exit the school, you find that your friend has texted you:
good luck!! :)
After shooting a quick reply, you make your way through the crowded sidewalk for few minutes. Once you get past the school, you will yourself to take a moment to simply breathe.
As you inhale deeply, you tilt your head slightly up to the sun, its warm rays enveloping your skin. The air is crisp and fresh, unlike the stale atmosphere lacing your school. Finally, you’re able to calm down a bit as you approach the café, quick to enter.
The first sound to greet you is the soft, café playlist sounding from the speakers in the ceiling, the song slightly masked by the quiet chatter of patrons. From behind the counter emanates the tearing noise of milk being steamed as baristas busy themselves with their work.
You glance around, finding that the café isn’t as busy as you’d thought it would be. Seated in one of the booths is Cole, eyes focused on a book situated on the table. It seems different than the assigned book. He’s dressed in dark jeans and a graphic tee depicting a band that you haven’t heard of.
You approach him, setting your backpack on the opposite side of the side. “Hey.”
Cole glances up at you as you do so, a dimpled smile forming on his lips. “Hey.”
“Just give me a minute to order,” you say, returning his grin as you turn towards the counter. Thankfully, there’s no line, so you’re able to place your order and pay quickly.
Once you have your order, you sit down across from Cole before pulling your needed supplies out.
“So...” Cole starts, pushing his current read aside and sliding his note packet out. “Quanish the Elder. Quite the character, don’t you think?”
You chuckle lightly, sipping on your drink as you nod in agreement. “Definitely. But his stories have some merit. After all, rumor has it that he can see the future.”
Cole shrugs. “My...grandfather always told me that he was an idiot. I guess he had his moments, though.”
You nod, plucking the seminar prep sheet up in order to read over the questions. “Okay...so, we have to figure out what stance we’re going to take on the message he was trying to embed, right?”
“Yeah, sounds about right. So...what do you think he was trying to say?”
“That people are unpredictable. And sometimes stupid,” you summarize, surprising yourself at how simple the theme is. “And that’s unavoidable no matter where you go.”
“Ironic, coming from him,” Cole mumbles, shrugging. “Yeah, that’s what I gathered too.”
“Cool, so we I guess we can go ahead and look for quotes and examples that back our theory,” you mumble, pulling your book out.
Cole nods in agreement as he sips his drink again. “Sounds good.”
With that, the two of you scour the chapters for quotes. During your reading, you can’t help but sneak a few glances over at Cole.
He’s so cute when he reads, you think, smiling softly as your eyes flick back towards the page. Your brain happily reimagines the memory of his pretty eyes scanning over the page, the way his fingers would flip the page, the callouses present on his knuckles...and not to mention his muscles.
It takes you a minute to process that, despite reading almost an entire page, you hadn’t digested any of the words. You sigh softly, starting over again. Okay, focus!
Thankfully, you’re able to redirect your attention to the task at hand as opposed to the handsome man sitting right across from you. Soon enough, you’re both able to finish filling out your homework for the weekend.
“I’m so glad that’s done,” you note, shoving the papers back where they belong. “I was dreading that.”
“Yeah, I’m relieved that we finished before the weekend,” he responds, also putting his belongings away. “Thanks, by the way. For meeting me here.”
“Yeah, I um...I enjoyed it,” you admit softly, not sure of what else to say. An idea occurs to you when you notice his other book slipped against the wall. “Oh, what are you reading now, by the way?”
To your delight, Cole starts telling you about the book he’s reading. And from there, the two of you end up discussing other books for a little while.
You didn’t think he would be so well-versed in Ninjago’s literature, but he proved you wrong. Proof that you should never judge a book by its cover – especially if that cover sports muscles, graphic band t-shirts and a manbun.
Sure enough, the two of you were there for far longer than you’d anticipated – not that you minded, though. He was fun to talk to.
You’re about to ask him something else when his phone starts ringing.
“Sorry,” he mumbles, fumbling for his device as he shoots an apologetic glance towards you. “I need to get this.”
You dismiss his worries with a wave of your hand. “Not a problem. I should stretch my legs for a second anyway.”
So, you stand, deciding to browse some of the merchandise situated at the other side of the café while you wait for him to finish.
Once he does, you make your way back over, noticing that he’s packing all of his belongings up.
“Hey, sorry. I have to go,” he admits, snatching his book. “But...maybe we could do this again sometime? Maybe same day and time next week?”
“I’d like that,” you reply, smiling softly as you grab your stuff, making sure all of the trash has been cleaned up.
“Dope,” he mumbles quietly, nervously grinning. “So, I’ll see you then?”
“You sure will,” you say, the two of you exiting the café together.
With that, you both bid each other goodbye before heading home for the evening. When you get home, you immediately text your friend to concede defeat:
I think you were right. We’re meeting up again next week.
…
The weekend, as per usual, passes in a haze much to your dismay. You hadn’t slept well, either, which normally wouldn’t be a huge issue except for one, little detail:
You fell asleep before setting your alarm on Sunday night.
It didn’t take you long to realize you weren’t going to make it, even going as far as not to rush your morning routine. Now, you’re walking on the sidewalk towards the school, checking the time on your phone. Yeah, there’s no way you’re going to arrive in time. Might as well grab a cup of coffee since you can’t be late twice, right?
Decision made, you slow your pace and decide to simply enjoy the fresh air while you still can. You weren’t really looking forward to first period anyway, so why not live a little?
The atmosphere of Ninjago City seems to be extra busy today, with citizens much like yourself bustling about. You arrive at the café in a few minutes, immediately joining the line.
After you order, you wait for the baristas to make your drink, idly watching one of the televisions hitched up in the corner of the store. It’s stationed to one of the local news channels, the hosts of which are currently discussing local news.
You lose interest after a few moments, electing to scroll through your phone again.
A few seconds later, the barista calls out your name and hands you your drink. After thanking her, you take a sip and go to have a seat at one of the tables.
About ten minutes pass as you scroll through your phone while enjoying your beverage. At some point, though, you start hearing more and more concerned murmuring among the crowd.
You lift your head up, noticing quite a few people leaving the store. Narrowing your eyes, you shift your stare towards the TV again.
“This just in – our scouts have spotted Garmadon and his forces approaching Ninjago City again! You know the drill – take cover wherever you can until the Secret Ninja Force can repel his assault!”
Oh, fucking dandy. Another Garmadon attack. You stand with a groan, watching as the camera footage shifts to a shot of Garmadon’s giant shark mech breaching the coast. Again. Fantastic, that’s not too far from where you’re at, which means you probably won’t be able to make it back home in time. That means your best shot is figuring out where the nearest public shelter is.
You shift your attention towards the street, noticing that people are already starting to panic.
After making your way out of the shop, you realize that your time is shorter than you initially thought. You can already feel the vibrations of the mech’s footsteps within the ground, and people are starting to panic even more.
You feel your heartbeat increase as someone yells out from the street behind you. Upon turning, you feel the beginnings of an adrenaline rush as an all-too-familiar group of Garmadon goons flood the streets.
As your breathing speeds up, you make a split-second decision to cut through an alley between two buildings – a route that you know will lead you to a back road that fewer people know about. You jog towards it, cautiously making your way through.
Thankfully, it’s clear, leading you to the road. You continue following it, making sure to keep your head on a swivel.
It’s eerily quiet, save for the small vibrations. In the distance, you can hear people yelling. You pass a few people on the way, but not too many.
You manage to make it within a few minutes of home – from here, it’s just a walk past a skyscraper, then a few turns and you’re there.
Your gaze shifts up to the skyscraper you need to walk by, and for some reason, a horrid feeling courses through your stomach. You stop in your tracks, hairs standing on end as you glance around.
Your home...it’s not far, and yet...
Your unease pays off, because seconds later, a deafening shattering noise sends you scrambling for cover. Something crashes through the skyscraper you would have been standing in front of had you not stopped when you did. You run back towards a nearby alley, trying to get away from the action.
As you turn, however, you find that a few of Garmadon’s soldiers are blocking your path, along with a few smaller mechs controlled by some of the higher-level goons.
You turn back around, spotting the mech you saw on TV emerge from the debris of the skyscraper, your eyes widen as you notice the remains of the building swaying unsteadily for a moment before toppling over – right in your direction.
A scream becomes stuck in your throat as you try to run from the falling debris, but before you can, a pair of hands roughly pushes you backwards. You yell out, falling onto the pavement.
The breath is knocked out of your lungs, leaving you gasping. Your mind is spinning, part of you trying to get your ass in gear while the other part of you is trying to suck a breath in. With both warring thoughts in your mind, combined with the sight of the falling debris...
...you freeze.
Breath hitched in your lungs, you can only watch as the debris tumbles down towards you.
You close your eyes, waiting for an impact as tears prick the corners of your eyes.
But...it doesn’t come.
After slowly opening your eyes, you realize that something else is towering over you. Your breath finally returns, allowing you to sit up.
Above you is another mech – this one familiar. You recognize it as one of the mechs used by the Secret Ninja Force. Relief courses through you as the mech hovers over you, blocking the debris with its fists. It’s the Black Ninja’s mech.
Three other mechs appear – the Red Ninja leaps into action by driving back Garmadon’s mech using its momentum and surprise. Second to appear is the Green Ninja’s mechanical dragon, aiding Red in his assault against Garmadon. Finally, the Gray Ninja’s water strider leaps out of a nearby river, one of its legs sweeping out against the row of smaller mechs, effectively sending them flying backwards.
With that, she leaps back in the water, the mech swimming away. Green and Red manage to drive Garmadon’s mech out of sight, while Black’s mech seemingly spots the various enemies around you.
You decide it’s best to get away from the giant robot that’s about to start fighting, so you scramble out of its way, eyes scanning the area for cover. To your dismay, more of Garmadon’s troops have arrived, and have surrounded you.
“Fuck,” you curse, wondering what the best course of action could be. There’s no cover for you to take, so your best hope of not getting squished like a bug is to hope that Black sees you.
“General, do it now!” an enemy shouts. You notice one of them holding some strange device – a gun, maybe? A big one, if it is. They aim it towards Black’s mech, and in a matter of seconds, it launches a blue ball of energy towards the mech. You gasp as blue waves pulse across its structure before sending it crashing to the ground.
Was that an electromagnetic pulse?! you wonder, eyes widening as the mech fails to get up.
Then, a pair of arms jerks you backwards by the shoulder, another arm coming in front of you. You struggle, screaming out as something sharp is pressed against your neck.
“Easy, beautiful,” a scratchy voice taunts. “No use struggling unless you want your throat slit.”
"Let me go!” you demand as the grip on you grows tighter. Fingers dig into your skin, the blade now poking into your neck.
“That’s up to our little ninja friend,” he responds. You watch as a figure emerges from the cockpit, heart racing.
“I’d like to see what he’s capable of without his big robot,” another soldier taunts as Black slowly makes his way towards you. You try not to let your fear show, but you can tell it’s not working. His eyes glance at you, studying you for a moment.
“Let her go,” he states calmly, raising his hands.
“Nope,” replies the man holding you. “We want something. If we strike a deal, maybe then we can think about releasing her.”
“Okay,” Black assures, stepping forward slowly. “Let’s talk.”
“That’s more like it. Okay, here’s what we want. We want you,” he states simply.
“You want to capture me?” Black clarifies.
“Yes. You’re going to be good leverage to use against Green. Not to mention that when Garmadon finds out that we captured a ninja, we’ll get a promotion for sure!”
“What do you mean by leverage?” asks Black. You get the feeling that whoever’s holding you hostage isn’t the brightest, and that Black is just scrounging for time however he can. He must have some kind of plan.
“Isn’t it obvious? To get your damned team to back down and surrender control to Garmadon!”
Black doesn’t answer for a moment, seemingly going over his options. You notice that his eyes keep flicking towards a direction behind you ever so often, but the enemy doesn’t seem to realize this. He must be waiting for backup.
“So, what’ll it be?”
“I’ll come willingly. Just...let her go.”
“Come over here.”
Another goon steps forward, holding out a pair of handcuffs. You bite your lip as Black takes a few steps forward, heart pounding.
Then, you hear something: the guy behind you grunts, dropping his knife arm. A split second is all it takes for you to realize that this is your chance. You immediately run forward, making your way behind Black before turning around to face your attacker.
You see a bunch of men...convulsing, maybe? But not all of them – a portion of them are watching their fallen allies in shock. You’re stuck wondering what happened until a blue aircraft zips overhead.
“Thanks, Blue,” Black mutters before turning to you. “Hey, you need to go.”
You don’t reply, watching as he goes to defend against a few goons who have recovered enough to rush him.
For some reason, you’re rooted in place. You know you’re free, and that you can run, but...something prompts you to stay.
Black seems to be holding his own despite the fact that he’s outnumbered. However, the situation changes when someone manages to trip him up, another goon taking advantage of the opening by tackling Black.
They’re quick to pin his limbs down, with another man circling the restrained ninja with a dark chuckle. “You were a fool to think you could take us on all by yourself!”
Black doesn’t reply – just keeps his cool.
“How about we take a look at who we’re really dealing with, hm?” the villain taunts. “Take his mask off!”
Oh, stars. You have to do something!
You glance around, realizing that this could be your only opportunity since they’re preoccupied with Black’s true identity. Thankfully, the debris around you provides plenty of impromptu weapons – one of which is a chunk of concrete that seems heavy enough to do some damage, but light enough for you to throw. Perfect.
You grab it, hoisting it up before aiming it at one of the men holding Black’s arms down. With a grunt, you throw it as hard as you can.
The concrete sails through the area before smacking the intended man in the shoulder, effectively causing him to let go of Black’s arm. It's not much, but it’s enough for Black to strike the man holding his other arm.
“You fucking bitch!” the injured man yells, gripping his injured shoulder. “Get her!”
Thankfully, though, Black manages to take the rest of the men out. You sigh in relief, realizing that you’re starting to crash from that lovely adrenaline rush.
“Are you okay?” you ask, shifting your gaze to Black.
And you pause, eyes widening as you remember that he’s unmasked.
But...you know this face.
“Cole?” you wonder. “You’re the...?”
“Um...yeah. Yeah, I am,” he mumbles, smiling smally as he bends over to pick his mask up. “Guess my cover’s blown, huh?”
You’re not really sure what to say, so you avert your gaze as he pulls the article over his head. With your thoughts racing, you have a hard time making sense of all that’s happened.
Cole...so it’s been him all along. And his other friends...the numbers and personalities certainly match up. They must make up the rest of the Secret Ninja Force.
He studies you for a moment, walking up to you slowly. “You’re not hurt, are you?”
“N-No, I’m fine,” you reply. “Um...for what it’s worth, I won’t tell anyone.”
“I’m sorry about all this,” he says, pausing. “You should find shelter. I know that the public ones are probably locked by now, but there might something else nearby.”
“My home isn’t far. I’ll just head there,” you note.
“I’ll come with you. The main streets are crawling with Garmadon’s army, and my mech isn’t much use now anyway,” he replies. “Lead the way.”
“Thank you,” you mumble, starting to walk towards your home.
With that, the two of you quietly make your way through the city, most of the goons having made their way to other points of the city by now. This part of the city has gone eerily quiet, leaving you and Cole to trek through the streets in a strange silence.
“Are you doing okay?” Cole wonders. “I’m sorry that he...”
“It’s not your fault,” you assure, smiling sadly. “And...I’m just a little shaken, I think, but I'll survive.”
“...And you’re taking the news of my identity better than I thought, too,” he admits.
“I mean...I can’t really complain, can I? You saved me. Yeah, it’s...kind of weird to think that you’re actually a ninja, but...it’s not as surprising as I initially thought. Maybe because I might have hit my head. Or because I’m in shock, or...something. I don’t know.”
He nods in agreement. “Yeah, and I guess I owe you thanks too.”
“Why?”
“For stepping in when you did,” he adds. “I don’t think I would have been able to escape them if you hadn’t given me an opening.”
You smirk, turning to glance at him. “Even ninjas need saving sometimes too, huh?”
“Unfortunately, yes.”
That makes you giggle as the two of you finally approach your home, with you turning towards Cole.
“Thank you again,” you mumble, smiling at him.
“Not a problem,” Cole answers. “Are we still on for next week, by the way?”
“We sure are,” you add, stepping closer to him.
You can feel him freeze slightly, especially when your hands come up to lift his mask slightly. A wave of confidence slips over you as you press a soft kiss to his cheek, stepping away after you pull it back down.
“Thank you again, Cole.”

[ 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 ]
Hello love! I hope you enjoy this one, it's been a while since I wrote anything for Cole ahahah. Stay hydrated and safe everyone! More content is still on its way, I've just been very busy with graduation, work, and whatnot ^^ also @legogeek33 's reblog(?) (comment???) about the First Spinjitsu Master being the equivalent of God in Ninjago is so fucking valid :)
“Well, this is gonna hurt.”
Cole chuckles breathlessly, eyes fixed on the building that comes crashing down. Not even his superhuman strength could help him now. He can vaguely hear the cries of civilians a distance away, smiling to himself. Looks like Jay managed to get them out.
The sight of a huge concrete slab hurtling towards him after that is the last thing he sees.
— — — — —
“Priestess! We need your help!”
You turn instantly at the sound of someone calling you, almost dropping the candelabra in your hands, when you see the bloodied and ragged ninja, the familiar bright colours of their gi soaked in splattered crimson.  You immediately place it down, rushing over to the temple entrance.
“Treat him first. Please.” The green ninja pleads. He and the Lightning ninja are the only things preventing the unconscious Earth ninja between them from collapsing to the ground. You can barely make out his face, spotting a deep gash the length of your arm running down his side.
You purse your lips, nodding. “This way,” You instruct, gesturing for some of the other temple staff on night duty to come forward and assist them. You guide them to the main room, where a giant statue of the First Spinjitsu Master stands at the front, moving to help place the Earth ninja down onto a soft mat your disciples lay down for you.
You place his arm on your shoulder, standing up with a sharp exhale once half his weight is transferred to you. Both you and the Lightning ninja gently lay him down, your white robes now stained with blood.
“Forgive me,” You murmur, hands gently gripping the bottom of his hood and pulling it up, exposing his face. His breathing is short and stuttered, beads of sweat on his brow as a river of red continues to trickle down his skin.
Clasping your hands together, you start to perform your ritual of healing. You close your eyes, placing your hands directly on his wound. Blood coats the skin, and you feel your palms warm.
Even with your eyes closed, you can still see the faint soft rays that emit from your palms. The strong scent of iron fills the air, practically coating your tongue. You struggle to hold back the nausea that overwhelms you, focusing purely on saving this man’s life. Eventually, you hear his pained grunts fade and the familiar trickle of the blood slowing its flow.
His wound is the first thing you check. It’s no longer bleeding, a thin layer of raw pink skin forming over it. Dried blood cakes the surrounding skin, but other than that, he would be alright. The rest of the ninjas receiving treatment behind you are staring in awe, still in disbelief that they have managed to witness your holy powers for the first time in their lives.
You nod at another of your disciples who steps forward, gently picking up the Earth ninja and bringing him to the med bay in the church. You turn to face the rest, a small smile on your lips. “He will be alright now.”
They all breathe out sighs of relief, thanking you profusely. “It’s alright. Please, stay and rest. We will take care of you, so feel free to ask for any assistance. My friend here will guide you to your rooms, while I will oversee your friend's recovery personally.” After a quick bow to the grateful ninja, you take your leave, reassuring them of any worries they previously held.
The next few days are relatively peaceful, with the ninja having more or less fully recovered from their injuries. Well, all save for one. The Earth ninja remained unconscious, and you were in the med bay day and night, healing him to the best of your ability.
You’d even helped change and bandage him. Sure, it was a little embarrassing at first, with your innocent eyes never having seen a man shirtless. You’d gotten used to it over time, though, and aren’t as affected as before. Cole was his name, you heard, with the ninja becoming more comfortable around you and revealing their identities. It’s a nice name. You like the way it rolls off your tongue.
You rinse the clean cloth in the pail on the table beside you, wringing it dry and gently dabbing at the scrapes and bruises on his body. The shallow cuts gradually healed, with most of them barely leaving scars. The deep gash from the night before is also healing rather nicely, most of the dried blood having been wiped away.
You brush aside his hair, taking a moment to admire his face. He’s rather handsome, you suppose, with long lashes brushing against the skin under his eyes, his pale upper lip curved with a perfect cupid’s bow. His toned arms lay on each side of him, the defined muscle more apparent without his gi covering them.
You gingerly brush the soft cloth against his cheek, cleaning it as per your usual ritual and leaving the more private areas alone. You move onto his arms, turning to rinse the cloth once more.
“Who…are you…?” You’re startled by the sudden voice, turning to see Cole’s lips tugged downwards in a confused frown. You approach him with a warm smile, gently shushing him and continuing to clean his body.
“Everything’s okay; get some proper rest now. You’re in a safe place.” You promise him. He can barely muster the strength to speak, trying to sit up. You place your hands on his shoulders, pushing him back down with a tut and sitting on his bed. He doesn’t protest, his eyes fixed on your face even as they slowly close.
He begins to snore. You stifle a giggle, finishing up your task before gathering the pail and cloth and leaving the room. You make your way to the kitchen, placing the pail down in its usual place, where someone would help to clean it.
The next few days are much more lively. Once the rest of the ninjas heard that their friend was alright, they visited the med bay every day. More often than not, you had to chase them out so that Cole could get enough rest. Okay, maybe you just wanted to spend time with him as well.
Over the weeks spent with him, the both of you had bonded over your mutual love of books, eagerly discussing trivial topics such as the thrilling adventures of Lillian McGonagall, a book series you both are fans of. However, as time passed and Cole recovered fully, you found yourself wishing more and more that he’d stay.
One night, however, you found yourself in his room, having subconsciously made an excuse to yourself to just check up on him one last time before he left with the rest of the ninjas. Strangely enough, your heart twisted at the thought of waking up to a temple devoid of his presence, already dreading the morning when you’d forget that he wasn’t here anymore.
You knock on the door, surprised when it opens on the second tap. Suddenly, you’re tugged into the room, the door closing behind you with a soft click. You find yourself with your back against it, looking up into warm obsidian eyes. “Hey,” You greet Cole breathlessly, your hands gripping the fabric of your white robe as your racing heart thrums happily in your chest.
“Hey,” He chuckles, his palm resting flat against the door beside your head. You can’t look away, eyes fixed on his playful yet kind gaze. “So, what’re you doing here?”
“I couldn’t sleep, so I just thought I’d check on you.” Your lousy excuse is obvious, even to him. He raises a brow at your words, lips tugging up into a smirk. Oh. You swallow thickly. To have those lips on yours would be such a blessing.
“I couldn’t sleep either.” You’re suddenly made aware of his free hand gently combing through your long locks, the silky strands on his fingers as he lifts his hand up. His gaze doesn’t falter, even as he kisses your hair.
You feel your cheeks warm, your head flooding with unholy thoughts you can’t seem to will away, no matter how much you try. It’d be a lie to say that having his lips on yours isn’t all that’s on your mind right now.
You forget how to breathe, especially when he smiles down at you. He takes a step closer, than another, until your bodies are flush against each other. His hand cups your chin, his thumb brushing over your plump bottom lip. His eyes flit from your eyes to your lips, then back up again.
You can’t think.
“May I?”
Cole’s husky whisper is all the temptation you need, managing a shaky nod as your tongue darts out to lick your lips. All at once, his lips are on yours. You close your eyes, moving your lips against his and chasing the sweet and addictive taste of euphoria he provides.
You pull him closer, and his hand grips your right thigh, gently squeezing it. You oblige, lifting your legs and wrapping them around his waist. The kiss grows more urgent. The promise of tomorrow’s departure spurs both of you forward to cross the line.
Except, the line isn’t crossed.
You pull back, panting heavily as dark pink coats your cheeks. His luscious red lips are all you can see, but you come to your senses through the haze. You can’t go any further than this. If you did, you’d fall for him harder than ever. You wouldn’t be able to handle his absence.
So you cup his cheek, pressing a gentle peck against it.
This seems to bring him back down to earth from his euphoric high, blinking a few times before he smiles softly at you. The both of you share another gentle yet chaste kiss, your hands tangling themselves in his shaggy, coal-black hair as the both of you continue to whisper tender words and affectionate promises to each other through the dizzying brush of his lips against yours.
The following day, he departs. But not before giving you one last kiss, hidden away in the med bay after you help him pack his belongings. Giving your goodbyes to the ninja, you watch them leave, eyes fixed on one in particular. A hushed promise of his is held close to your heart, one of him returning.
It’s been a year since they left, and you’ve busied yourself with the temple's upkeep and your duties as the Priestess of the temple. You’re occasionally given updates on the ninja, hearing about their adventures in the Kingdom of Shintaro. You hear about Cole and Vania, a shard of jealousy embedding itself in your heart.
After that, you explicitly ordered no one to mention his name around you. You didn’t want to know. So much for the promise he made to you. Were you nothing to him? Did that night become nothing more than mere memory to him?
Did he forget about you?
You weren’t sure whether you wanted answers.
One day, however, you returned from an outing to the village where you cured the sick and injured, as was your regular routine. The temple was in a commotion, with various staff rushing around as if they were preparing for the arrival of a royal.
“What’s going on?” You question one of them, stopping her as she rushes toward the kitchen.
“I-I think it’s best if you see it for yourself, priestess.” She stutters, glancing at the main room. You frown, letting her go and making your way there yourself. Who would be as bold as to intrude into your sanctuary?
You push the doors open, your rushed footsteps slowing to a stop when you register the familiar black gi. He turns, and it’s as if you’re seeing him for the first time again. The hair you’d so carelessly tangled your hands in, those stupid lips you’d so passionately kissed all those nights ago….
It can’t be.
You’re frozen in place as Cole strides over, the easygoing smile on his lips making your heart skip a beat even now. You can’t even muster the strength to push him away as he tucks a lock of hair behind your ear, lifting up a few strands and kissing them before looking up at you with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“I told you I’d come back.”
