ROUND 2A, MATCH 1 OUT OF 8!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Includes the original 1950 animated film, the 2002 sequel Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, and the 2007 sequel Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.
**Cinderella Romance, Romeo and Cinderella, and Cendrillon were all songs which were submitted. I condensed all Hatsune Miku songs into one entry.
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Disney Animated:
she is very iconic, she is super kind and has a beautiful dress
Submitting specifically because Cinderella III: A Twist in Time has lived rent-free in my head ever since I was a small child.
This Cinderella is most young (western) peoples introduction to this very story. Cinderella is so hopeful and by getting one small magical adventure, her whole life changes for the better. She is skilled and inspires such loyalty with her kindness that it’s hard to dislike her for any reason she gives. I’ve always been jealous of her ball hairdo too.
Walt Disney put all he had into this movie. And his favorite animation was the dress transformation scene. There’s a reason she is often front and center on the Princess group promotions.
she is the original. to me. probably the first exposure to cinderella for a solid chunk of people alive & on tumblr today. she is just a perfect encapsulation of everything that cinderella is, even if she's become warped in the public consciousness. also i'm pretty sure she's the reason why the glass slippers are so predominant in more recent retellings bc she is simply so iconic. 100/10 no notes 💜
She's maybe not the OG OG but she was one of the first animated Disney princesses and strangely enough it doesn't stop her from having an amazing personality. She's literally a slave but keeps being a nice person, forgiving and always doing her best. And the sequels absolutely didn't ruin her character. She's a sweet girl who tries to fit in but who's loyal to the person she is and who tries to change things always in a cute and sweet way to show people it's not that hard. She literally forgave Anastasia and tried to help her after all she did to her (the scene where the step-sisters destroy her dress still is terrifying to me)... she's awesome and deserves more recognition honestly...
(Mod's note: the following submitted specifically for Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, but I condensed the animated movies into one entry.) No she is not the same as the original Cinderella of 1950. This girl’s biggest chance was unfairly snatched away from her. When the Prince was brainwashed she was enough to get him to double take. She was so Right that their connection over powered magic. And she had to be rescued from a ship. And was almost crushed within a pumpkin! And finally had to expose another imposter, who turned out to be just another victim of Lady Trameine. This Cinderella fought harder for her love because she knew what True Love was like and she still was able to forgive those who asked for it.
(Mod's note: the following submitted specifically for Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, but I condensed the animated movies into one entry.) Listen yes it's the same Cinderella from 1950 but she has an arc in this one! It's Disney's greatest film!!
Listen I love them both but the animated Cinderella definitly shine in every single movie she has. And she has 3.
Hatsune Miku:
(General) NUMBER 1 WORLD PRINCESS!!! Miku miku oo ee oo :) also she is portrayed as Cinderella in a lot of songs.
(Cinderella Romance) [No Propaganda]
(Romeo and Cinderella) is hatsune miku. invented existing. references several other fairy tales.
(Cendrillon) Miku Miku Miku Miku Miku.

What fans say:
Cinderella III: A Twist in Time:
I love the animation, Anastasia gets more characterization, Prince Charming gets more characterization, and the humor is top tier. My favorite scene is where the prince is trying to leave the castle to find Cinderella, and the king gets in his way and says “I FORBID YOU TO TAKE ANOTHER STEP DOWN THESE STAIRS” and the prince goes “okay” and YEETS HIMSELF OUT THE WINDOW.
I did not expect anything worthwhile from a Disney Straight-to-DVD Sequel, when watching it for the first time as an already grown adult. They used to train their animators on these things because nobody cared about quality with a sequel that was never meant to hit theaters anyway. But the people who worked on Twist in Time BROUGHT IT and it's a genuinely fine movie with an interesting story that fleshes out more characters, has some real well-done emotional beats, contains some good bits of humor, and also manages to turn the Prince into a hilarious icon as well XD
Klaus:
The animation style used in it is so unique! And who doesn't love a heartwarming tale of friendship and kindness?
It’s such a good movie about kindness and Christmas. It has a great redemption of a arrogant character who learns the value of kindness. It’s so good, it also has this manner of found family that I love.

Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, The King —Aesthetic
Tumblr media
The King's Character & Personality
The King is the short-tempered, yet benevolent father of Prince Charming. As the ruler of a far away kingdom, he grew lonely once his son gained independence. This manifested in longing for grandchildren. As a means of coercing his son into marrying, the King assembles a ball in hopes one eligible maiden will catch his heart. He may want grandkids because of heirs, but he also genuinely wants to be a grandfather. Deep down, the King wants his son to be genuinely happy with whomever he marries and has children with too. This is because he's a romantic who strongly believes in love at first sight. The King's passionate temper is next-to-unreasonable. He threatens servants to "encourage" them to follow his orders. The King reacts explosively when things don't go his way. Finally, he'll even accuse his servants of treason and try to kill them if his plans go wrong. Regardless of this, the King can be surprisingly forgiving and an inspiring influence to others as he believes everyone deserves love.

202nd edit of mine and inspired by @thenamelessdoll this edit here and I am actually really glad how the coloring change worked out. Belle being paler was tricky, until I layer one image of the screenshot overall the lighter, but one layer kept her outfit + hair same tint. John actually looks way more alive with darker hair like Belle. XD I am so glad too I found that screenshot or scene of Charming (or Christopher @airasora ;D) looking shocked and if edited a bit, his hand looks out reached. “No John, come back, I want you, not her”.

Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (2007) is the third and final installment of movies sprouting from the original Cinderella (1950), and is marginally more popular than its predecessor, Cinderella II: Dreams Come True (2002).
Prince Charming, the main protagonist, maintains a faithful relationship with Cinderella through the movie, despite being bewitched to instead propose to Anastasia, Cinderella’s stepsister. However, it could be argued that the prince is gay, or at least bisexual.
Prince Charming’s father, the king, is constantly pestering him about getting a wife. The Prince, however, doesn’t seem too keen on it until he meets Cinderella. Cinderella, though smitten with the Prince, mainly wants to get away from her stepmother and stepsisters. This would result in a perfect arrangement where Cinderella is used as the face of the marriage while the Prince could date who he wanted in secret, and uncriticized by the public.
While Anastasia does find love in the second movie (this fact is then erased in the third movie for plot purposes), her sister, Drizella, never does. All she seems to do in all three movies is sneer at Anastasia’s crushes. It is meant to portray jealousy, but could also imply internalized homophobia and self contempt. Perhaps she is angry at Anastasia for falling in love with handsome princes like a ‘normal’ girl, while Drizella never felt that way toward men, and is therefore, in her mind, lesser because of it.
Though these themes were never confirmed to be true, nor were they particularly implied, they seem plausible, and, after all, art is up to interpretation. As I always say, fictional characters’ sexualities are in the eye of the beholder.

Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (2007)
Tumblr media
Between 1994 and 2008, Walt Disney Pictures was making sequels to just about any of their movies. Mostly, you got stuff like Mulan II and The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea. At best, they MIGHT appeal to young children who were die-hard fans of the originals. Before you dismiss all of them, however, take a look at Cinderella III: A Twist in Time. It may be the best of the direct-to-video sequels that came out of that era of Disney animated films.
After their wedding, Cinderella (voiced by Jennifer Hale) and Prince Philipp (voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes) are celebrating with The Fairy Godmother (voiced by Russi Taylor) when Anastasia Tremaine (Tress MacNeille) spots them. Realizing what the fairy must've done on the night at the ball, Lady Tremaine (Susan Blakeslee) steals the magic wand, uses it to turn The Fairy Godmother to stone and then alters the the past. Now, when the Grand Duke (Rob Paulsen) tried to put the glass slipper on Anastasia, it fit and Cinderella’s happily ever after is about to vanish.
I know you’re raising an eyebrow at the concept of a straight-to-DVD second sequel to a movie made 50+ years prior but hear me out. Firstly, this is a true sequel” rather than a re-tread of the first. Lady Tremaine was so wicked and cruel when we met her. Don’t you think her hatred for Cinderella would keep going? She’s always wanted her daughters to be above Cinderella and now, she’s found a way to do it. Right away, you’ve got high stakes. Once Anastasia and the Prince marry, it’s over. Cinderella will never have an opportunity to live happily ever after and who knows what the kingdom will turn into with Lady Tremaine in the castle. Saving the day will be an uphill climb, as Cinderella will have to do everything on her own -no fairy will come to her rescue this time. At best, she can call upon her bird and mouse friends (Gus - voiced by Corey Burton - and Jaq - by Rob Paulsen - return). If those odds weren't steep enough, Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella (Russi Taylor) all remember what happened before the timeline was altered. No one else does, including the Prince, whom they promptly mind-control using magic.
It may come as a disappointment that A Twist in Time doesn’t really acknowledge Cinderella II: Dreams Come True but it’s almost as if the people who worked on this film looked at the previous one and said, “You know what, I think we’re onto something here… can we try it again and give it our all this time?” Like its predecessor, Cinderella III spends a lot of time on Anastasia. She gets plenty of character growth as she begins questioning what her future will be like. She's about to marry a man who does not love her, all because her bully of a mother wants more power and (more importantly) to get revenge against someone who’s never done anything wrong to them. This anxiety leads to some tender moments between the King (Andre Stojka) as he confides with his future stepdaughter.
Overall, the quality of the animation, voice acting, humour, romance, drama and characters are consistent enough with the original (without ever matching it) that undiscerning viewers will be fooled into thinking the movies were made within a short period. The one area where there is a significant drop in quality are the songs. None of them are bad but neither are they any special or memorable. Another element to improve would be the film’s opening. Cinderella III= only lasts 70 minutes so the plot wastes no time getting started and it really could’ve used a bit more room to breathe. I won’t hold these flaws against it too harshly. In a perfect world, this film directed by Frank Nissen would’ve gotten a bigger budget and a theatrical release but no way was that going to happen. Ever. Who would buy tickets for a time-travel/alternate-universe version of a beloved classic made half a century later, particularly considering the reputation of Disney sequels? The fact is everyone working on this movie cared. They cared A LOT. They made the best movie they could with the resources available and they should be applauded for it.
Cinderella III: A Twist in Time is a good film. It’s an engaging sequel that brings the elements and characters you love back, tells an original story, and surmounts the obstacles placed in front of it spectacularly. It maintains the spirit of the original, down to the most “action-packed” scene of the film: a thrilling chase that’s a mirror-world opposite of Cinderella’s ride inside the pumpkin carriage on the night of the ball. I hope this movie finds the audience it deserves. Anyone who catches it should stay for the end credits to see a bonus scene halfway, along with several amusing gags and an epilogue as well. Live-Action Remake:
Of all the live action remakes of the past decade this one is my favorite. Somehow it keeps the essence of the 1950 story but makes it today relevant. Ella really does live her life by having courage and being kind. The mice and birds might not speak but she (and we) still understand. She didn’t want to go to the ball for any grand reason besides being able to see a friend. That blue dress was so beautiful! And the butterflies! Ella and Kit matched so well together the Princess, King, and Captain of the Guard all Knew. And that wedding dress!
Plus Ella forgave her stepfamily. That is something that take such great strength of character and kindness of heart.
Tbh I've never seen the movie but I was a young impressionable child (7 years old) when it came out and. There was an ad in a paper or something and I thought she was really pretty so I cut out and hung it on the wall. It stayed up for. Many years. This was likely the first sign that I was gay.
