I have finally finished watching all the cutscenes in Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] / Unchained χ [chi]/ Union χ [Cross]. (Not Dark Roads yet. Gunna play that next, no one spoilt it.) But anyway, here are a collection of random thoughts / info-dumping / opinions on the game. (This is more so something I’m writing for myself also as a sort of journaling / getting thoughts out of my head and into writing thing. If other people want to read it and enjoy it and respond to it that’s awesome and I’d appreciate it, but I’m not really expecting anyone to. This isn’t going to be a super well thought out post.)
First off, I did play the game a little before it got taken offline, but I never finished it because I took a break and then forgot about the whole going offline thing. Kinda a shame. Like, the gameplay wasn’t really all that fun or good. Probably one of the most boring games I’ve played. But I still feel like I’ve had something taken away from me. Like “hey worked not-at-all-hard for those medals!” But I also feel like just going through all the cutscenes without interrupting it with repetitive gameplay made the experience much better. I even tested up a bit at times, especially with the stuff involving Stelitzia. It probably helped that I decided to really try to put myself in the player’s shoes and imagine what every scene would feel like if I were actually physically there. But also, just the story was really good. It in true Kingdom Hearts fashion it managed to answer a ton of questions in a way that makes sense within the world of the story while also introducing way more questions at the same time.
I do hope this eventually gets the same treatment Chain of Memories and Coded did. Like, I feel like it will. It seems like a no brainer. Especially once it has the perfect remake name in the four of Re:Union. Like, that’s a real word. Like Re:Coded was. And it will be so nice to see all these cutscenes in 3D HD glory. (And hopefully the theater mode in that hypothetical game will organize the cutscenes chronologically instead of by world so that I don’t have to use a Reddit post to figure out what order to watch everything in.) Another reason why I feel like a Re:Union game is on the way is because of the random character customization in Fragmentary Passage. Like, it seemed so pointless and out of no where for a game that short and serious. But if it’s a beta test for character customization in a 3D Union Cross Remake it makes a lot more sense.
On that note, there is something very satisfying about playing a kingdom hearts game with a customizable player character that you can make an oc, or self insert, or whatever you want. It makes the story feel much more personal. Like, I named my character after myself and since the character was meant to me a young child I tried to specifically base it off my childhood self and tried to pick the clothing options and accessories I would have liked as a kid (with a bit of my modern personality and opinions slipping in there.) But then seeing child me go through … all that. Really pulls my heartstrings. And I feel like I have a personal connection to Chirithy, Ephemer, Skuld, and even the Disney characters like Aladdin and Alice.
Speaking of children, this story gets dark! And all the characters are literally children except for the masters and the Disney characters. And keeping that in mind during parts like the Keyblade War and the ending just makes the story so much more tragic and sad. (Which is a compliment. Very angsty.) Though on that note … where did all these kids come from? Like, Chirithy explains what Darbreak Town is to you at the beginning and I think it’s implied that you traveled there in a dream. And other than the seven masters and Moogle there are no adults in the entire town. Just a bunch of kids being raised by l cat plushies and furries with anime swords. And yet, they talk about summer vacation and homework in one of the cutscenes so they’re apparently getting an education at some point. So like, we’re these kids isakied here and their real parents just presumed them dead or missing? Are they all in comas? Do they come and go from the world as they wake up and go to sleep? If so, how did they all get trapped there and die in the Keyblade War / End of the World? If not, why does no one seem concerned by the fact that they were plucked out of the home world, family, and life and told to go fight a bunch of monsters or die trying? Like, these kids are really easily on board with this whole Keybalde/ Lux finding thing.
On the subject of weird discrepancies / classic kingdom hearts confusing plot points, did Ephemer create a paradox at the end? Like, was he just sent back in time and then become the person who taught the Master of Masters who in turn taught Ava who in turn taught Ephemer and thus create a time loop? Also, where did Elrena end up? Was the Dwarf Woodlands? I think it was but it was so non-discript I couldn’t tell. Like, Laurium was clearly in Dwarf Woodlands, it’s literally the same exact spot you meet up with Snowhite at when you revisit all the worlds. And obviously Ventus ended up at the Keyblade Graveyard just in time for Birth by Sleep. But I can’t tell where Elrena was supposed to be. On that not, what the heck was up with the vision of Xehanort and Erikus as the player was dying? Was that implying that the player gets reincarnated as Xehanort? Am I Xehanort? Are we all Xehanort? Did we all just get Norted? Also, not liking how similar Brain looks to Erikus nor the fact that they have the same Keyblade. Please tell me they aren’t the same character. Brain was one of the coolest characters in the franchise and Erikus is one of the worst. Please tell me they are not the same person. It doesn’t help that the art style is so limited. Like, Braig/Luxu also looks like Brain and by extension Erikus in this style. So idk what’s going on.
Anyway, I’m running out of time between classes, so that’s all I’m gunna say. Overall, great story, mediocre gameplay, but if the gameplay is given the Re:Chain of Memories treatment it could become my favorite system cause the medals are a cool concept. Okay, I’m really going to stop taking now. TheMostOP, out.

I actually finished Kingdom Hearts χ Dark Road today. It may not seem worth mentioning that I completed a mobile game, but as the story is canon to KH lore it does feel like an accomplishment. Especially since it took so long just to beat the last boss! The first half of the game, Unchained χ/Union χ[Cross], was a lot better gameplay-wise, as Dark Road was pretty much an auto-battle card game, so I wouldn't actually mind if they gave DR the same treatment they gave Uχ and the other smaller games: turn it into a "movie" so we can experience the story and not worry about busywork. Speaking of the story, DR was the completely unnecessary backstory to the main villain of the whole series, Xehanort. That said, it was just as absolutely bonkers as one would expect from the KH series, with a surprise twist at the VERY end (much like Uχ) that caught me completely off-guard! I'd expect that this will have no bearing on subsequent games, but with how they brought characters from Uχ back I would also not be surprised if they somehow did. Honestly I enjoyed the story but am glad I won't have to touch the game ever again.

So you know how the card combat system in CoM is never brought up again in the mainline series (non-mobile games)? This got pretty long, so it’ll be under the cut. Spoilers for Union Cross. TLDR: Ven’s presence in Castle Oblivion is what made it have the card system.
According to the 8th of Ansem the Wise’s secret reports in KH2, “[Castle Oblivion] consists of 13 floors above and 12 floors below ground, with the contents of its ‘White Rooms’ transforming in response to its visitor’s memories.” Those memories are etched onto cards, created by sampling specifically Sora and Riku’s memories. Who is the first person we see create these world cards?
Marluxia, who also teaches Sora how to use the cards to his advantage in combat for some reason. Come to think of it, why does Marluxia show Sora how to use the cards? In-universe, I mean. And how do the CO-assigned Org members know how to use them as well? But I’m getting off-track. We’re here to talk about why the cards are the combat system, not how the characters know how to use it.
Castle Oblivion is a place tied to the Age of Fairytales by its inhabitants, both as the Castle and as the Land of Departure. Ven is from then, as are Marluxia and Larxene, who both end up there. Eraqus is (probably but not confirmed to be) descended from Brain. Xehanort calls the Land of Departure a second home and is also related to a Union Leader, Ephemer. Remember, the contents of the White Rooms reflect the memories of the Castle’s visitors, so what then would happen if someone resided there? Would their memory, no matter if they consciously are aware of it or not, affect the whole castle to such a degree that the combat system reflects that of a bygone era?
Did you know that Kingdom Hearts χ, the browser game, used cards as its combat system? Ever wonder why Flick Rush exists? Dark Road also uses cards in its combat system, though it’s less a game of War and more “hit the enemy with sleights as fast as possible before their turn arrives”.
In Unchained χ and Union Cross, instead of cards, your player character uses Medals, which function basically the same but are exclusive to that specific game. Medals don’t show up anywhere else in the series, unlike cards.
At the end of Union Cross, it’s revealed that the events of Unchained χ were taking place inside a datascape, a digital recreation of the real Daybreak Town. Makes sense, then, that Medals only appear in that specific stretch of time/gameplay. We also discover that Dream Eaters, both Spirits and Nightmares, are actually wielders whose hearts have been kept safe by their Chirithy, transforming it into the technicolor Pokémon ripoffs of Dream Drop Distance. Only makes sense that they’d use cards for Flick Rush in that case, right?
Ever wonder why Luxord’s title is the Gambler of Fate when his attribute is time? Cards and dice, the main weapons he and his subset of Nobodies use, have been associated with fortune-telling since they were invented. Card reading, especially Tarot, are popular forms of attempting to predict the future or find out something important about yourself and others pertaining your/their destiny. But in this series, destiny is never left to chance, meaning no need to gamble. Perhaps Luxord is hoping to game the system while staying within the rules.
Back to world cards. Doesn’t the way they work seem oddly familiar? They use the memory of a person to project a world for them to interact with within a single location. Sounds very much like the Book of Prophecies creating worlds from the future it saw (the memory of that future etched in its pages) for wielders to collect Lux from the safety of Daybreak Town, since the actual worlds are too far away to get to besides using a Corridor of Darkness or similar.
I could go into how Skuld, Sigurd, and the Dark Road Norse Name crew connect to this (and possibly speculate about Sigurd’s role in Missing-Link), as well as the strange pods in CO/the Mansion and the significance of the Master’s Defender Keyblade being the one used to lock away the LoD but that’s more research than I could possibly stomach right now so I’ll save that analysis for another time. Besides, that’s more related to fate in general and not specifically cards so it’s probably best to keep that separate anyways.
If you made it this far, I want to thank you for reading! This is something I’ve had on my mind for a while and it feels great to finally get it down on paper (or rather, in a post).

the correct play order is Kingdom Hearts Final Mix > Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories > Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (NDS, not the cutscene collection) > Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix > Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix > Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage- > Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (again the actual NDS game) > Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance > Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover > Kingdom Hearts χ/Unchained χ/Union χ (Cross) > Kingdom Hearts Dark Road > The World Ends With You > assorted Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailers > a basic understanding of the development history of Final Fantasy XV > Toy Story > Toy Story 2 > Kingdom Hearts 3 > read Final Fantasy Wiki page on Fabula Nova Crystallis > Kingdom Hearts 3 Re Mind > Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory. it's really that simple

Okay so, my order for the Kingdom Hearts Series Recap, after I finish KH2:
Days
re:coded (episodes 1-7. I know coded's first episode released BEFORE 358 Days Over 2 released in Japan, but this is for the sake of my sanity.)
Birth by Sleep: Final Mix
re:coded (final episode and Secret Ending, as those released AFTER Birth by Sleep back when it was a mobile game)
Dream Drop Distance
re:coded (The extra scene added after the original secret ending in the movie version.)
χ
χ Back Cover
0.2
Unchained χ
Union Cross (part 1)
III
Union Cross (part 2)
Re:Mind
Union Cross (part 3)
Melody of Memory
Dark Road (Even though it's first episode released before re:mind, it had ZERO references in Melody of Memory, unlike the rest of the χ saga which at least got a few collectibles, so I'm placing it AFTER Melody of Memory.)
As you can see, the χ-saga kinda threw me for a loop. It's basically a subseries onto itself, and I am still trying to figure out the specifics of how to split up Union Cross's recap.
That's a LOT and I am looking forward to it!
When we get to Days and re:coded I'll at least somewhat know what's happening lmao

Moar Kingdom Hearts!
I have two more videos for the next two weekends, next week’s is already done and rendering as this post goes live, so I’ll be back to drawing a little bit for people I owe doodles for before February and KHIII has me doing that video for two months.
Thanks if anyone takes the time on 21+ hour videos on this series, even if you’re only here for my randomness and art! I will be back to having some free time soon and drawing more.

Don’t you just hate it when you’re a few jewels short? I know I do...
I made this for myself to guide me and help me in making better decisions concerning how or when I should spend or save my jewels in KHUX when it comes to the Organization XIII monthly events.
I love collecting these medals and this is mostly aimed towards those people who love collecting them too and are F2P, but who also don’t want to fall too far behind (because the usefulness of some of these medals is debatable..). I am mostly a F2P KHUX player and my greatest weaknesses are the Axel, Roxas and Xion medals and during this period it is not easy... XD
Hope someone finds this information useful throughout the Org. XIII events! Even if you don’t collect them, now you have some basic concrete knowledge of how much you can get. Good luck!

Alyssum - Lobularia Maritima - "without madness"
This flower means "worth beyond beauty" or "sweetness of the soul". In ancient times it was used to treat rabies. It's name is derived from the Ancient Greek word ἄλυσσον (álusson).
ἀ- ‎(a-, “without”) +‎ λύσσα ‎(lússa, “rage”)

Alyssa - Noble, Rational
A name with with several origins, but I am using the Greek origin of the name, meaning "Rational". This name is also a variant of Alicia, meaning "Noble". The name has connections to the alyssum flower.
Let us take a moment to reflect upon my Annamarie AU, where Alyssa, the "player character" of Kingdom Hearts χ/Unchained/Union χ, becomes the fifth union leader, instead of Strelitzia, including all the implications lain out in my tags, and in The Name My Heart Once Knew.
What would one propose would happen if... metaphorically, the alyssum were to die?
I'll just... leave that thought with you.
